Dr. Smith was my favorite professor this past semester. She made microbiology interesting and fun to learn about with her great sense of humor! You do have to work for it through homework and a couple of quizzes but I made an A in her class and would take over and over again!
Professor Smith made micro relatable and interesting. Great sense of humor and always making me laugh during the semester. She is very helpful and let's you know exactly what to except on lab tests and has detailed reviews. Would highly recommend taking her, you won't regret it!
Dr. Smith is one of those professors that has the ability to keep you accountable for what you need to know at the same time making the process of learning that material fun and engaging. Expect intriguing activities and interesting lectures. Some subject material is slightly challenging but she is great at explaining it. Just ask her!
Dr. Smith was hilarious--think Ellen DeGeneres. She's incredibly passionate about microbiology, and strives to make the class entertaining. If you read and study the lab manual, you will do great on the tests in lab. The Unknown Project may seem scary at first, but try to enjoy it. It's actually really fun! Take her!
I only took Dr. Smith for lab but I wish I would have taken here for lecture as well, She is the best teacher that I have encountered at my time at TCC. She is hilarious and is beyond helpful and does everything she can to make sure you learn and achieve the best grade possible. Follow directions, study her material and you will succeed!
I made a B in lab which helped me attain a C overall with my lecture being a D before the B. GREAT PROFESSOR WISH I HAD HER LECTURE! Very helpful and encouraging. Best class so far!!
Great lecturer; she cares about students and is enthusiastic about teaching; you gotta take her class because it was great!
She makes the class interesting , and easy to learn . Love the way she teach.
Wonderful teacher! She cares about her students by trying to give us all of the information we will need for the medical field. 4 tests, one is online and one is dropped (Final isn't dropped). Read the book but she is clear on what to focus on! Take her lab!
She co-taught my lab with another professor for summer Micro and was wonderful. She made it interesting and even though she had high expectations for us, she gave us the tools to succeed; I only wish I'd had her for lecture too. Engaging, friendly and approachable - highly recommend her!
One of my favorite classes and teachers to-date. Dr. Smith will work the crap out of you, but it's worth it if you truly want to learn. The tests are hard, but fair, and there is a lot of rather in depth material to cover, along with research projects and presentations. All in all, I would highly recommend her as a professor.
Took her for both lec and lab. She's very passionate about microbiology, makes learning it so much fun! She knows her stuff and expects you to do the same. Assigns a lot of work, diagram and essay questions with the multiple choice tests. Sounds bad but she a fantastic teacher and is there to help you. I miss her already :(
One of the best professors, highly recommend! She makes the class fun, and she is very positive which makes it enjoyable being in her class. She is straight to the point when it comes to what is going to be on the tests and reviews it with you. In terms of grading she makes you work for that A. Excellent attendance and do the work, you'll be fine.
Dr. Smith was by far an outstanding professor! Microbiology is a difficult class but she breaks it down it down in ways you can better understand the concepts. Would love to take her again! Btw her sense of humor is adorable! You'll love her! Expect a group project but it's easy!
Dr Smith is an amazing professor and a God send to the scientific community. She takes her work serious but is still able to lighten up the mood with a pun here or there. One of the BEST professors I have ever had. I wish I could take her for everything!
Dr. Smith is the best professor I've ever had. Science classes are going to be hard, and you're going to have to work for it. But she gives you ALL the tools you need to be successful, including lots of extra credit opportunities and thorough test reviews. She's adorable and honestly wants you to be successful in your medical career.
Dr. SMITH IS AWESOME!! Take her for lab and lecture!!!!! You are going to have to work for your grade, but she gives plenty of extra credit opportunities to be successful! She genuinely cares about her students and always tries to relate topics learned to our future nursing/healthcare careers! (: be prepared for homework/quizzes!
Dr. Smith is great. Yes, microbiology is difficult. No, she's not going to just hand you an A. You put in the work and you'll get the results you want. Stay on top of your assignments and take advantage of extra credit opportunities if you need them. You can do this!!
Dr. Smith gives great lectures, she is very knowledgeable, and you will leave her class knowing so much more. If you are taking her class I highly advise that you take easier classes with it and plan to spend a good chunk of your time doing stuff for this class. I am an "A" student and this class was intense, right there with Physics.
she is great and she helps a lot she gives great lecture she gives extra credit i would like that more teachers teach like her she is lay back and understand students a lot she is passionate and amazing i recommend you to take her microbiology 2420 is a lot of information to memorize but you will learn a lot
Dr. Smith is AMAZING! Lab is so much fun! Lab is more hands on and applying the knowledge you know for assignments, whereas lecture is a lot of memorization. I HIGHLY recomend bringing her PowerPoint lecture slides to lecture with you, as you won't miss info in lecture! She goes fast, but she explains everything very well! You will adore her!
I don't have enough space here to say how much I loved Dr. Smith! She is a great teacher and I wish I could take more classes with her! Very funny and really wants her students to learn. Good amount of homework. Between lab and lecture there is about 8 tests plus finals. Class material can be hard if you don't have a science background.
I LOVE HER and you will too! Here's what to expect, she gives you EVERYTHING you need to know on her lab and lecture exams. I only used the book for reference but I studied mostly her powerpoints for her test and listened to my recordings of her. Gives A LOT of extra credit but doesn't mean she'll use it, need to earn it. TAKE HER!
Dr. Smith is a well loved professor for good reason. The subject material of this course is challenging. You won't pass if you don't do as she says. All of her lectures and course material are carefully planned out for student success. She's an awesome lecturer, funny and inspirational. I wish she taught all my classes!
Dr. Smith is an extraordinary educator and her passion for the subject is contagious! Everything you need is on google drive, she's super organized, really funny and grades fast. Show up, participate, work ahead and you will pass. It's hard not to grasp the material with the way she teaches. Enroll early, she's popular (for good reason).
Best professor I've had, no doubt. Seriously, just take her class.
I took Professor Smith for my non-major Microbiology class and I loved her! She was so sweet and genuinely cared about her students. It's a hard class because there's alot of material to be covered but she gave many extra credit opportunities and as long as you follow along during class lectures and do your reading, you have nothing to worry about
I took Dr smith for Microbiology 2420 and she was absolutely amazing! She's very passionate, enthusiastic, and caring professor and will do anything she can to help her students succeed if she sees that you care and are willing to work for it.. This was definitely one the the hardest classes I've taken and I would recommend her to everyone!
Dr. Smith is an excellent professor! She's very passionate about teaching, knowledgeable, and cares about her students. The course is tough but I always felt that she was in my corner. She's super organized and grades quickly. I learned so much from her class. I'd definitely recommend taking her.
I took her for Micro-Biology BIO2420. I know it is tough class but she doesnt make it bit easier at all. Professor shouldnt generalized student and assume they all are of same level. Professor should be able to help everyone and equally.
Please take your extra minute and find different professor. I dont recommend her. It is just honest review. Hope it is helpful to other.
I don't recommend her. There are lots of good professor out there.
She doesnt even try to help students. Unfair grading and giving extra credits.
Do not take this professor. I never had professor like her. It is tough class but if you find right professor you will enjoy the class. But not with her.
Dr. Smith is passionate about the subject and will take time to explain difficult concepts. This is a sophomore level science class that will prepare you for junior level sciences.
I have took so many classes with different professors but never seen like her. Too strict and doesnt even try to help students. No email response no inspirational word. And does unfair grading. Please take extra minute and choose right professor. Science is not a easy class and she makes more harder.
Dr. Smith is a great lecturer. She makes complex material understandable is makes it very interesting. I loved attending her lectures. She responds very quickly to emails, and is very good one-on-one during her office hours. The class is challenging, but not impossible. Definitely study her lecture slides, but the book isn't necessary to pass.
Dr. Smith an amazing instructor. If you are serious about a science career or professional school, I guarantee you won't find a better course and instructor for preparation. The projects, papers, and topics are to help YOU as a student, not make life hard. If you are one to do zero work and get an easy grade, I would take a different instructor.
Take Dr. Smith if you want a teacher that really cares about your success. She is very clear on expectations & the course requires dedication & hard work. She also gives plenty of extra credit, practice sheets for difficult material, relates the material to real life situations we will face in our health care careers. By far the BEST teacher EVER
Dr. Smith is the most caring teacher I've ever had. She genuinely cares about every student. A lot of assignments, but she's very clear about them all. If you study hard and really want to learn she is the best professor for you. She also responds to email insanely fast (even sunday nights). I 100% recommend her.
If you take her class, you will sure be inspired. Her lecture is very informative about your nursing career and how the knowledge you get will be applied later. But she is a tough grader for sure, so make sure you have good study buddies
I would not recommend this class to anyone. The class is comprised of addtl very lengthy research papers and presentations. It is not a typical biology course with just exams and homework as a grade. I would advise against purchasing the lab book, nothing is collected in it. Prof has worst attitude of TCC. Not approachable and rude to students.
I was very scared to take this class, until I met Dr. Smith. She made the class incredibly interesting and applied it very well to the health and medicine fields. She has a tremendous amount of knowledge and is highly respected by her former students and by her colleagues. Yes, it is difficult and yes you have to work for it. 11/10
Dr. Smith is an amazing professor. Her lectures were interesting and informative. I felt like I learned so much and was always prepared for exams. Lab assignments were sometimes challenging but educational and a good grade was always attainable with hard work. So happy I had this experience.
Dr. Smith is a great teacher but she assigns too much homework. So much so that there is no time to study for the tests. You will only pass this class with a A if you try exceptionally hard. She does offer a lot of extra credit though. The material isnt hard just the pace and the amount of work is the challenging part.
Professor Smith is a great teacher, her lectures are very interesting and the lab is really fun.
Dr. Smith is a terrific woman. She is passionate about what she does, and goes above and beyond to apply the academic material to real-life situations (very helpful if you are going into healthcare). Her lecture and lab exams require extreme attention to detail, but it only makes you a better learner.
Dr. Smith is an absolutely incredible professor who goes above and beyond to aid in the success of her students. Micro is a very challenging class, but her passion makes it very enjoyable and her constant feedback is very helpful. She gives plenty of extra credit, and many assignments to help improve your grade. She's amazing!
I love professor Smith, if you want a good professor and are looking forward to learning something, TAKE HER. She will not just give you an A, you have to work for it, it was the hardest class I have taken, if you put in work, you will pass & do well. I was in her class last semester and it transferred online, she made it so easy for us!! TAKE HER!
Dr. Smith was such an amazing professor. We started out in classroom before COVID and she always made lectures easy to understand and enjoyable. With the transition to online, she dedicated so much of her time to making sure we understood what was expected. She is so caring and puts her students before a-lot. No judgement in her class either! LOVED
too much work not enough time, BEWARE she tries to set you up for failure by making you do so much busy work. disregarded students thoughts on her excessive labs and instead piled on more work. do not recommend
Here is the honest review. I am sure that you might are taking multiple classes along with micro. But let me tell you "RUN" and chose some other professor if you wanna save your grades, time, effort, and patience level. TONSSSSSSSSSSSSS of readings, video lectures and assignments. Just don't take this class.
RUN from this teacher. The course is hard but she makes it 3times harder with no regards for student or help. She gives too many work to do but takes forever to grade. Doesnt care about her student. Acts like she is the hate keeper to your career. All she does is talk about her family and how she is stress like dont we allRUN RUN RUN
If you're looking to take this class online- DON'T. I'm sure Dr. Smith is a great prof in person, but this is THE HARDEST I have ever had to work for a grade in my entire life, and I am not afraid of hard work. She is a merciless grader, but does offer EC (1 point for 36+ Q's). There is SO MUCH HOMEWORK. Growing bacterial cultures in your home.
If you can, I would recommend a better professor. Work is doable but the homework is very excessive. Does not give feedback on assignments. Lectures were kind of vague, but she did have study objectives. In order to really succeed, you must be able to teach yourself. Probably one of the hardest classes I have taken.
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT take Dr. Smith! I could write a book on why NOT to take her for MIRCO. Lecture videos are vague.. you will be teaching yourself. Not to mention, she uploads lec vids the night before an exam. We had to grow cultures in our own home. TONS of homework. You will never get a 100% on an assignment. Takes WEEKS to grade work.
very kind, caring, and understanding person but boy was her class hard everyone in my class said this was the hardest class they had ever taken.
Dr. Smith is honestly the best college teacher I've ever. She truly cares about the success of her students, not only in her class, but in their careers. For real, Micro is hard, but I'd rather learn it well and do good on the entrance exam; and Dr. Smith really makes it make sense. I learned way more than my friends who took Micro at other schools
Very compassionate and accessible professor thats passionate about microbiology and knows her stuff. Almost gives instructions too much but better that than not! I worked my tushy off but so glad I did and with her as my professor.
Dr. Smiths class is difficult however she does her best to answer questions as you have them , remains accessible and offers extra credit. Taking micro at home during the pandemic was challenging for everyone, I imagine in person her class is even better.
Dr Smith is an amazing professor. micro is a really difficult class especially if you dont understand the basics, but she is very good at catching you up and answering any questions. she also offers extra credit to apply what you are learning so that you understand it much better. I would reccomend this gem of a person to anyone taking micro!!!
If I had the chance to take her again, I would. Microbiology can be hard & information heavy, but she knows how to keep her students engaged. She's always available after class, & via email for any students needs, & is extremely understanding. Lab is always fun and you mostly just have to worry about the quizzes. Group projects are common in class.
Dr. Smith is extremely passionate about what she teaches. She provides a lot of practice questions, provides the free response questions ahead of the test, and gives plenty of extra credit. Make sure you do the extra credit because not only does it help reinforce the material but is usually graded as a completion.
She is the best A&P1 teacher ever definitely get her. I had her for lecture, and she is so sweet. She always listens and makes time for her students. She is super understanding and wants you to pass. If you put in the work, you will get a good grade, but this class is no joke no matter who you take but she's awesome.
I had an amazing experience in Dr. Smith's class, she is a great professor that really cares for her students with lots of personal experience to share. There is a textbook for the course but she structures her lectures in such a way that one is not necessary to succeed. You always know what is expected from you and she makes it easy to succeed!
The reason I got an A is because of her. She is so amazing- many extra credit opp. Lots of work but the work will help your understanding and grade. You will regret not taking her. Put in the hard work and take advantage of the opportunities' she gives you and you will get an A. I work full time and was able to get an A- so can you.
In order to succeed in her class, you have to put alot of effort to succeed. You'll need to read the books for clarification. Dr. Smith is an awesome person and fair but very stern. Pay attention in lab. Also, a lot of extra credits. people gives her poor rating because they weren't willing to put the effort in. Good luck!
She is an amazing professor. This was my first science class since high school 4 years ago and I was nervous to start a science course... especially microbiology. She provides plenty of extra credit and homework to help your grade out and drops your lowest test score. If you communicate with her and put in the work you should be fine!
Very tough grader. I barely made a B. The lecture exams are very difficult and the question are very in depth and detailed. If you are taking multiple classes, be very careful because there are tons of homework and exams and quizzes every week.
For me this class was harder than both A&P1 and 2. It was overwhelming. I do think she is a good professor but it was soooo hard. I had to study so much outside of class and still only got a B. My grade was bumped up to an A because she did offer extra credit.
Dr. Smith is amazing! She is very passionate about what she teaches and she truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She offers a lot of extra credit which helps boost test grades. Your grade will reflect with the amount of work you put in and she is always willing to work with you and help out. Highly recommend taking her!
This is a very hard class. Dr Smith is a very tough professor. At times it felt like I was drowning in work and was barely passing every exam. Very tough grader. She seemed biased towards people who aren't very smart. Her exam reviews are useless and I wish I never took this class with her.
Absolutely loved Dr Smith. She clear and to the point really shows her mission is to help you learn. All of her info is relevant to future careers. She really shows it her mission to not only help you learn but also help you succeed!
Dr. Smith is amazing, teaches the material in a way that makes sense and gives you clear instructions on what to study for and preps you for lecture/lab exams. Micro is a heavy material subject in general, but Dr. Smith teaches it in a way that is fun and interesting. Would take again, if needed. You will have to put in the effort!
Dr Smith is very knowledgeable, energetic, and professional. She brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to her lectures which are very well timed and informative. Her lecture slides are comprehensive, clear, and prepare you well for the exams. Labs are well organized as well. She cares about her students and wants to see them succeed.
Dr. Smith was a great professor for microbiology. Make sure to pay attention in both lab and lecture, and take effective notes or make flashcards, and you'll sail through this course like an eagle. Lastly, be sure to prepare for your Unknown project and pick good classmates for your lecture disease project.
TAKE DR. SMITH CLASS!! She excepts a lot and really goes in-depth with microbiology but if you study and do all the extra credit you will do great in her class. She is funny and caring and will do all she can to help you pass the class.
If you actually want to learn microbiology, TAKE THIS CLASS! Dr. Smith takes tough material and makes it interesting and easier to learn. She's challenging and passionate about the field of microbiology. I will take this information with me as I head into the medical field, and my patients will be better for it.
Dr. Smith is an amazing professor. I would definitely recommend her for microbiology. Her labs are super fun. She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. There are lab and lecture exams so be prepared to study, but she tries her best to make sure all her students know the material. Attendance does matter for this class.
Wasnt a great fit for my learning style but still a good teacher overall. There were 5 exams, one group project, and 1 lab report. Homework was tough, uses mcgraw hill and most assignments consist of 30-100 questions. Very nice and helpful, she tried to make lectures as captivating as possible. Follow her study guides/rubrics and you will do well.
Dr. Smith is a very knowledgeable and passionate teacher, her BIOL 2420 was perhaps the most work intensive class I have ever taken, but she is very fair and will help you out.
Dr. Smith is the best professor at TCC. Each chapter includes McGraw-Hill homework. Multiple extra credit opportunities, which can take 2-3 hours, but can significantly boost your final grade. Extra credit is also available for study group meetings, so keep track of those. The final exam is optional, and she will guide you on whether to take it.
Dr.Smith is very knowledgeable in her class, sets up expectations clearly, she is organized, her lecture videos and PowerPoint are on point, she is very understanding and reasonable you just have to communicate, lots of assignments for extra credit to boost grades, as long as you are attending class and putting effort the class will be easy to pass
First off, she teaches microbiology like it's a four year university even though its a community college. Second, I was on the boarder of making an A, but because I scored low on my projects brochure, she wanted me to get my blood drawn as extra credit to boost it. She did this a few days after finals. Just find another Professor.
Great professor. Make sure you use the resources she provides, especially the lab slides and exam reviews—they're really useful. Take notes on everything.
I respect the design of this course by Dr. Smith. I believe taking her course will genuinely help students' endeavours. Micro may need most of your time because she gives lab quizzes, 2 projects, and 3 lab assignments that will follow you home. She provides several resources to help you with her exams! Make time to ACTUALLY study to make an A.
