The entire class she didn't explain the purpose of our writing, and graded extremely harshly

If your are a casual writer like me and go to class with causal writing be prepared to not write like "yourself" anymore she makes us have a structure of writing not fun at all also she can very some what cryptic in her feedback. She grades tough also those pop quiz are not a joke. i would not take this class again

she is nice but when it comes to teaching and grading she is very bad at it. Her teaching methods are very poor, you can't really learn from her methods, she grades everything super hard like we are super professional writers when we are not.

She gives everyone 3 ot 4 graded assignments every class expecting everyone to finish in a certain amounts of days. There is lots of group projects in class. I don't recommend.

She is HORRIBLE! I am a English major and I even struggled. She will not release canvas modules till the day of and will give you very little time for papers. The first paper we had a week to do. The last we had the illusion of a month however with her pacing we end up having to write a FIVE page essay with Five body paragraph in a weekend.

Horrible professor. I learned absolutely nothing from this class. She goes through her lecture slides so quickly that you cannot retain any of the material or write anything down. She is an extremely tough grader and will take off points for the most insignificant errors. It was incredibly difficult to make a B in this class. Avoid this professor!

She made me feel less confident as a writer and grades like I had given no effort (5 pages worth of work on each essay). She is kind beyond belief, but that is where you'll be fooled after you see your grade. I seriously recommend waiting for this next semester if she is your only option.

Don't take this class trust me.

She is a good teacher and explains things to an extent. However she is very vague and does not allow students to think outside the box. Everything should be a certain way. We were supposed to write research papers on things we liked but she only accepted the "logical" topics. And she is a very strict grader on essays.

Very though grader, a lot of effort was put from my end but small results were received from her end

Stay away. Heavy grader and only teaches for 10-15 minutes of class time and expects a lot of of students fresh out of high school.

Do not recommend. Find a professor who wants you to succeed. She is hilarious for sure with the way she grades and little to no feedback on her end.

It is not worth it. I assure you that you can do better and get another teacher. Unnecessary & poorly defined rubric. You need to post for more than 2 days for discussion posts. (not just min. of two people like normal teachers) She made the course unnecessarily hard. RUN!!! Take an extra year to learn a skill if she's the last option left.

Worst professor I have ever met, be prepared to drop your grade suddenly after an assignment. Hard to communicate, no sympathy at all. Just AVOID she at any cost or you will regret for years.

Professor Stern is an EXTREMELY tough grader. Infamously she will declare on the first day of class that she does not believe in extra credit or late work. Assignments are few and far between but missing or failing one assignment sets you up to struggle for the rest of the class. Emailing the professor will rarely result in help either. Good luck

She graded your papers based on her mood but not those criteria she told you. I was struggling and asking for a tutor. What an awful education and professor! Wasting money and time for nothing!!!

I'll never formally complain to HCC administration about this woman, but she needs to be fired or seriously investigated… Her class is a joke and her grading system is disgusting. If you enrolled at HCC for English one and have her as your prof… SWAP AS FAST AS YOU CAN, I'm serious this is the worst prof you can have in your entire life.

Stern is the worse teacher. She does not care about students at all. She does not have a clear criteria to grade she will fill the entire class with Ds. Avoid her at all costs

This is the toughest professor I have ever had. If you don't do things her way you will fail the class. She has such specific expectations that if you don't meet you will get a bad grade. I had to sacrifice my individualism to even get a 85. If you're taking this professor, be ready to abide by someone else rules when writing or fail.

Horrible teacher & person. No feedback, so no improvement. Confused? Don't ask if you don't want a loud demeaning answer in return. Disrespectful to her students and consistently has this weird thinking face on as if she's putting any work into her students or lessons at all.

This is the worst professor in HCC she doesn't know what she is talking about she grades very harshly and gives you nonsense feedback she'll tell you to fix something in your paper when you fix it she'll still complain as if she is not the one who suggested it. She grades so harshly she'll deduct points from your heading.

Before you enroll to her class at HCC, please review her rating and ignore their good ratings here, because she is a very hard grader and she doesn't understand what she mean for the class if y'all are too lazy in her class! She can be rude for that! Be wary if you're going to take her, be prepared for lots of work unless you pick a different prof!

Prof. Stern does not get enough recognition, but y'all should avoid taking her when you're going to take English 1301 or 1302 at HCC and you want to pass these classes. I don't know what she will grade you when you finished her assignments especially on time. Not even tutors would work on getting high grades from this woman. Take another professor!

She was very boring and she doesn't answer any questions because she feels its a stupid question. It doesn't help to have a teacher who laughs at people who are confused. She also doesn't give back grades, so you won't know if you passed or not until the end of the semester.

Never take Ms Stern. Just choose another one. It will be better for you in the long run.

DONT take this course. You will learn 0. Her grading criteria is very unclear. You may receive a good grade on one thing and then a terrible one the next. If you get a terrible grade from the get go, withdraw! There is no point, it'll only get worse. She does not reply to any emails/messages about assignments and when she does she can be very rude.

She does not answer her e-mails, she's very hard to reach if you have questions. I find instructions are not entirely clear. She seems sweet tho but actually rude.

She gives feedback but doesn't let you retake any individual assignments. She is rude in her comments. Not helpful in her grading. Will be retaking this class for a better grade.

Totally regret taking her, worst professor ever. Lack of sympathy and understanding. Her grading rubric is unclear, takes off lots of point for tiny mistakes, does not teach anything. RUN NOW FOR YOUR OWN SAKE.

Choosing Jennifer Stern is a guaranteed F or D grade. She is a tough grader, no one gets an A. Her three essays are in class and are from an unknown text that must be read instantly. Also, there are no extra points, no one understands her and I went to tutoring for two weeks and she still gave me a D. NEVER TAKE AGAIN!!!

When I walk into a class that I paid for I at least expect the teacher to teach. She does provide instruction but whenever it comes to the grading aspect she brings up something that she might've briefly talked about and deducts major points from the overall grade and doesn't give you the grade until weeks later. Very unprofessional.

I wouldnt recommend this class! All she does is give essays and is a tough grader. She doesnt help you and sits on her desk all the time. Ive also heard her talk to other teachers about her students and how they cant read or write. She wasnt even there on the first day and she is often absent and doesnt even email her students.

The worst thing I did was taking a class with her, she absolutely gives zero feedback and just hands out bad grades without explaining why. She does not care at all and her grading criteria was so annoying.

I had to withdraw due to the lack of communication. She's extremely rude. I set up a time to speak to her about assignments she wasn't clear about. Lets just say she got offensive and hung up. There is no way this women is happy in life by the way she grades and responds to students. She either just got divorced or thinks she's teaching a class at Harvard. Easily the worst teacher / Professor I have ever had in my life.

Almost every major assignment averaged 60-70; barely anyone got over 89 on any grade. it is as if she wants to be rated low and expects you to be perfect. She will take off heavy points for things that barely matter on assignments. Do not risk your grade even if she is the last teacher available. RUN!!!

Not a great teacher. I put a lot of effort into trying to keep out of her constant picking on her students. Ruined my Spring break and I cried all the day long.

THE WORST! RUN!! Do not take her for credit English at HCC. She is very arrogant, doesn't teach material but expects us to know everything. Don't waste your time as you won't learn a thing, you will be talked down too, and likely won't result in a good grade.

She is a HORRIBLE instructor. She doesn't give grades fairly even if you do everything she asks for and turn it in in time. She doesn't give clear instructions on any of her assignments. She can barely talk and its very difficult to hear her. She isn't also professional with her coworkers she always complains about them. Overall I do not recommend.

The professor was the worst, i had to drop the class after 3 weeks i could not get the professors help with anything. They do not like emails. They will tell you, &#8220;do not email me&#8221; and the professor is so unorganized!!!! She had work from her previous semester still on canvas. Took her days to reply. TERRIBLE in all means!!!

I don't recommend taking this professor class, all her assignments are confusing she does not explain clearly. For my final assignment I believe it was graded unfairly. I took a lot of time in doing it and she still gave me a zero for the assignment. Take any other ENGL 1301 professor but don't take her's you will be stressed the whole semester.

She failed Over half the class. She waited until the final to give everyone a zero with zero evidence of academic dishonesty, and with us providing evidence of no academic dishonesty. she changed one students grade for paraphrasing, but refused to change anyone else's. She deleted comments to make herself not look bad but we all screenshotted her.

This is the most inconsistent grader you could possibly imagine, she gave me zeros on assignments when i completed them and genuinely spent time and tried and she gave no explanation and when I confronted her she is shut down to explaining. Do not take this teacher if you like grades.

I found this professor's grading to be incredibly harsh and at times, unfair. It felt like you were walking on eggshells. And don't bother emailing her about your grade she will make you feel like you're dumb for asking and doesn't give any tips on how to improve your grade only gives you a low grade and go about their day. I Don't recommend.

When it comes to grading, my classmates and I have noticed that she consistently gives lower grades than the work deserves. clear structure or give greater weight to important work, such as the final exam or the final draft. Because of this lack of grading structure and fairness, I wasn't even able to maintain a B in the course. Avoid her pls!!!

Recommendation: DO NOT TAKE. - Jennifer Stern English Course. Avoid this class! Grading is extremely slow (weeks/months) and unfairly harsh, even on high-quality work. I feared failing due to the unexpected low scores. The professor is not a coherent or reasonable person to work with. Waste of time and money. Choose someone else.
