She is a very nice and awesome professor, however I think she grades kinda hard. Her tests are solid essay, nothing else and tons of papers to do throughout the semester! She definitely isn't an easy grader!!

Great prof!!! She is very understanding and willing to help. If you have to take this class get her. A few papers but they are not that bad really. Is a bit of a tough grader but she gives you what she wants and if you stick to it you will do fine.

Unlike many sociology professors, she took genuine interest in the comments made by her students. She also did a very good job of remaining unbiased and presented statistics and facts about a particular subject and let us analyze it. While, she is obviously a modern day hippie, she is alright :)

Prof. Stewart makes class really fun! She makes you think but still makes it interesting and we cover a lot of neat topics. Not much homework besides the four writing assignments, and her midterms/tests are extremely easy to follow from the study guide. She takes a genuine interest in her students

She's in the running for best prof at GVSU. I refused to miss one class. Just be prepared for all your classmates pretending that they never had heard of racism before and are astonished such a thing exists.

I like Stewart because she recognizes intelligence and nurtures it. Which is the criteria for any caring prof. Judging from the extensive comments given on papers, she really cares that you grow intellectualy. She helped strengthen my sociological imagination.

Her class was very easy. The only thing you had to do was 4 assignments during the semester. You didn't have any tests. there was a lot of reading but it wasn't that bad.

Really cool class. You learn so much about food production and how scary it is. I left class everyday not wanting to eat anything processed ever again, and my health has definitely improved. Not to mention Jen is the greatest teacher in this school.

She really knows her stuff regarding Race and Ethnicity. Love the passion she has for trying to aid in future equality. She shows in a way that is not threatening or belittling what it means to be white and privileged, and why we need to do what we can to eliminate unfair privileges.

Coming into the semester, this was the class I was looking forward to the least. At the end, best class ever. Not a blow off class, you do have to work, but not too hard if you do put in the effort. She is amazing and really knows her stuff. Every student should be required to take this class.

If you are looking for a class to fulfill your gen ed requirements then get any class with this professor! She is awesome and made the class a whole lot better! There are no tests so if you are like me then that should be enough to persuade you to take this class.

Amazing teacher i learned so much! you will have 4 papers to do usually 5 to 6 pages long, make sure you keep up with the reading their are quizzes but they are not to hard.

I loved having this prof! She was easy to listen to and the class was extremely interesting. There was A LOT of reading required with weekly write-ups but it was manageable. She was also an easy paper-grader. I would definitely take a class with this prof again.

Professor Stewart was a fantastic professor. She cares a lot about her students and she isn't afraid to slow down and focus on topics that students struggled to comprehend. She used a lot of real world examples, and would often take time to relate the class to current events. I learned so much from this class and I'd take it again in a heartbeat.

This class was super interesting and was mostly about having a good time and becoming involved and educated about food culture.

I loved her. She made the class fun. Theres a lot of readings but I never read anything and still passed. Gives hints for exactly whats on the exams. 1 major paper and 7 journals throughout the semester. She bought her dog in and we had a potluck for one of the classes. We got out of 1 journal by giving her $10 to donate to a charity. Take her!

I freaking love her! So much knowledge and one of the chillest profs. Graded basically on 4 papers. Let us do our final as a class if everyone showed up and contributed. You have to read a lot, but it is worth it. Tests are pretty easy. Sometimes class got emotional with the videos she shared. Loved this class.

The most fun and eye opening class because of this professor. She uses a lot of stories to express her points and they are hilarious. She is incredibly intelligent but do not be afraid to speak often in her class. If you are incredibly drained, be honest and ask for a mental health day. You have to read the books to get the most out of discussions.

Professor Stewart is a professor that I believe everyone at GV should be required to take once. She is hilarious and her class is an overall amazing time. Papers are the main points for this class but she doesnt grade them to hard

She is one of my favorite professors I have taken at GV so far. She is hilarious and her class is very interesting with a lot of open discussion. Journals are due every week and there is a midterm and final which are pretty easy too. Attendance is not mandatory. She's so chill and if you need an extension on a due date she will give it to you.

Professor Stewart is the chillest, sweetest, and funniest professor! She is very understanding of students needs and is always there for help. There are weekly journal entries, readings, and 2 exams. The journal entries are easy points but the exams are graded difficult. There is a ton of readings but it's bearable! Overall super fun class.

I worked incredibly hard to pull an A-. It makes me wonder how hard one has to work to earn an A. She just makes the course too hard to get an A. Otherwise she's cool.

Professor Stewart is an enlightening sociology professor. While one may not agree with all of her personal beliefs, she does provide excellent insight into the complex ways that structures and prejudice continue to enable discrimination in our society. She asks the class questions a lot so don't leave her hanging or she'll get upset.

I looked forward to going to lectures, she's hilarious and knows what she's talking about. Weekly readings and journals, sometimes the readings are long but if you have a basic understanding of the topic your journals will be fine. I struggled a little with the midterm, but she tells you what to expect from it!

If I could add her to my family, I would. I absolutely LOVE her. If you despise writing I would not recommend taking her because there is a weekly journal due, but she is an easy grader- just have to prove you read and can think deeply about the topic. This class is very interesting and I think everyone should have to take it. So applicable to life

Prof. Stewart is the BEST! She is well-educated about the topics she discusses, and can relate to many of the real world issues she teaches on. She is funny and quick-witted, and her class was always enjoyable to attend. The workload is light, with a few quizzes and weekly discussion boards, and overall very doable!

Prof Stewart is very caring and chill. I was able to take class online due to COVID even though her class was f2f. I even got COVID and she was the most understanding prof I had and gave me extensions. Only complaint is all of the quizzes. Also, her grading system is kind inconsistent. Other than that she was great

Great lecturer and a fun person in general. The class is extremely interesting! Expect a discussion or reading reflection every week. If you do your work and engage in the class, there is no reason for you to fail.

The professor is passionate about what she teaches. She respects and understands her students; She allows for late assignments and doesn't grade attendance. The assignments were daunting as you had to write a 2+ page paper over the week's lecture and reading for most of the week. However, the paper is reflective so it can be informal.

Professor Stewart was awesome! She cares a lot about the success of her students and was very flexible with assignments. Only thing you have to do, is just try and participate that's pretty much it. Other than that the class was not stressful at all highly recommend!

I took her twice because I enjoyed her classes so much! I took her sociology of food class and her sociology of race and ethnicity class. I really really love her. She is funny and her lectures are engaging and involve a lot of opinions from her students. The way this class is set up is ideal. The work load is super manageable.

Professor Stewart is great! She's loved in the SOC department, and her class was so informative! You learn a lot, and it doesn't require a ton of effort. Discussion boards and reading responses are due, and they alternate each week. We also have a multiple-choice midterm/final that was a bit hard, but manageable. Take her section of SOC 313!

Even though it is an SWS class, I understood it for once. The writing assignments are in-class and group assignments. The readings aren't terrible. The lectures are also interesting.
