She is a wonderful teacher.Presents the basics in a fun and easy way. Learned a ton and had never taken CHM in my life. She is sweet and never arrogant. She makes you feel comfortable even if you have the silliest questions.

Great lab prof. Wish she taught lecture. Time consuming class. Sometimes she goes a little fast on the math, but is always willing to help clarify it. Very nice to talk to about other topics as well. Very SMART, friendly, unintimidatinge and cute lady.
One of the best profs I've had at OU. She makes a difficult subject seem easy, because she takes the time to explain everything!! She is super nice and does not talk down to her students. Need to study for tests, take good notes and go to class and yo will do fine! I would highly suggest taking her if you get the chance.
She is a somewhat easy teacher. Her test are pretty much off her notes that she writes on the board. She puts extra questions on the tests and makes the extra credit. The first three exams have about 40 questions and the final is about 55. If you are going to take CHM 201 then I would take hr for sure.
Great lady, just not my favorite kind of teacher. She writes all her notes on the board until the last minute of class, merely depositing the information in us.I never took high school chemistry,so it may be the reason that I find it so hard. For some reason,I do not understand many of the concepts.
Love the lab she makes is fun and laid back yet still has a serious side, if you need help she will help you and will actually talk to you as a person instead of just another student.
She's a nice teacher that is willing to help out her students. Take her for Chem lab.
Professor comes off as sort of a "B" but if you come to class prepared and don't mess around, she is easier to get along with. It's best to stay on her good side, which is what I did and I liked her quite a bit. Make sure you have all of your prelabs completed before coming to class this is very important for any chem lab you take with her
Professor Tillinger is a great professor. She is very clear in lecture and is very helpful in office hours. I defiantly recommend taking her if you have the opportunity.
I hated her, She taught strait out of the book would use the same problems then quickly say Any questions and move on.. wrote notes till the end and covered to much in one class I never had chem which might be why i struggled i am retaking it in the fall
Very nice teacher, very helpful. Exams & homework are not too bad. She grades on a VERY nice curve. Allows the last exam to replace your lowest exam.
Not great but not bad. Kind of annoying and sometimes seems like she doesn't know what she's doing for the labs. Lectures run to the last minute. Explains everything clearly but sometimes drags on about the simplest things. Exams are fair, easy grader on labs.
she always has this stupid smirk on her face whenever she knows u did bad. i would suggest that u go and take the intro chm classes with sied. he goes slow and pounds concepts into your head until you get it. but make sure to study study study no matter who you have. good luck!
Dr. Tillinger is an EXCELLENT teacher. Very concerned with students. Will take all the time you need during office hours to go over problems, explain chemistry, answer all your questions. Uses textbook. VERY FAIR with tests, gives EXTRA CREDIT. Take home assignments are VERY helpful. Good class to take! Highly recommend!
She was a boring teacher. She just wrote notes the whole time. It was hard to grasp anything because you are trying to copy the notes down. She drops your lowest test score and replaces it with your final exam grade, which is nice. You just need to do a lot of studying in order to do well in this class.
her lectures are very boring. she always has a powerpoint that she posts online late the night before. you MUST print this for class because she goes way to fast to copy even what blanks she left down. don't even think about taking notes without her template. short tests know the material from your book because she's useless. she' easily distracted
Good course to take, although some would say that you need some chemistry background from high school. You don't. Just show up for lectures, but be prepared to take notes and pay attention. Professor is nice, helpful, & fielded any questions anyone had. Overall, good course & good professor.
Lab prof. Easy class, just do the work. She doesn't grade, the TA's do.
Always very helpful and understanding. The Organic Lab can be difficult but the teacher is not!
well, she's a little off her rocker with her jokes, but other than that, she tries to make sure you know the information, but doesn't like it when you ask stupid questions. she has very little patience for not having memorized whatever was in the prerequisite class. tests are straigtforward because she gives review - some trick questions to get A+.
shes an OK professor, she teaches fairly and her test are in the hard side. when you do her practice test, their pretty easy. but when the actual test comes, their hard as hell. i recommend taking dr saed
For someone that's never taken a chemistry course, this class was tough, but Dr. Tillinger gave us lots of opportunity for extra credit and it boosted my grade from a B to an A. She was always willing to answer any questions and never made students feel stupid for asking. She was always willing to help me when i went to her office. Her test questio
She's an okay professor. Very nice lady, and she does give you good notes to look over, but sometimes she takes for granted that you don't understand -why- things are a certain way, especially for an entry level class. Tests are on the very hard side, class averages are generally C's. Not good at answering specific questions...but nice lady.
I liked her a lot- there is nothing tricky, just notes, homework and tests. I look forward to having her again next semester
Professor tillinger is amazing!!!
I graduated high school almost 10 years ago and I've never taken a Chem class. For an intro course, this one was BRUTAL!!! She FLIES through the material...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to the SI (supplemental instruction) course. It really really really helps! READ THE BOOK/DO THE PRACTICE TESTS/DO GROUP STUDY SESSIONS/GO TO SI and study study!!!!!
i cannot stand her. period.
Very helpful, lots of notes, the tests are pretty hard and usually not like the study guide... however, all around a good class and I am taking her again next term
Very good professor. She has a great way of making the material very interesting. Will take classroom time to insure that ALL students are familor with the current materials and equations before moving on. Highly recomand not missing classes because she goes through alot of material in each class. I would recomend her to anyone taking chem
I think that she made the class much harder than it could have been. Her tests are really hard.
During lab she would only spend time in one room, which got annoying after a while. She is somewhat helpful unless you ask something simple.
tillinger was a pretty good teacher. if you take her class i recommend not missing any of them b/c it's hard to catch up. she explains everything very well, but i still highly stress going to every SI that you can b/c the practice you get in there is what you need to take her tests. If you're not doin too well stick it out...it works out in the end
Even if you stick it out...as one person said...it really makes no difference. She doesn't cut anyone slack or offer extra credit as others have also said. She moves on even if people don't understand and sighs when people ask questions. Nice lady..not the best professor.
Professor Tillinger will make you work for your grade. Lectures move quick and there is lots of information. She doesn't answer questions well in class, but every time I went to her office she was EXTREMELY helpful. Her grading scale is to your advantage, a 90% = 4.0. I ended up with 3.6 but worked hard for it. Read the book & go to class everyday.
If you take good notes, do the study guides, extra probs, and go to SI you will be fine. The class requires some effort and she makes her tests harder than they should be for an intro class. The standardized final is super easy compared to her tests. She's ok, but I've heard of easier profs.
Best professor ever. Honestly, she is amazing, she is very helpful, very clear, and is really cool to talk to. Take her, you won't regret it.
Good professor, very friendly. Her exams are pretty difficult but she curves the grades a lot. Everybody seems to love her. Take good notes and show up for the iclicker quizes. Chemistry is hard no matter what professor you have, especially organic chem, but I would definately recommend Tillinger.
Professor Tillinger is really great...but her tests are hard! Go to the lectures and try not to miss so you can do well on the iclicker and not get behind. Go to SI...since the practice material made is really helpful for the tests and the instructor is cute :)!
This teacher is a nice person, but when you ask a question she doesn't answer it directly. She also only hands out the scantron test back to the test taker... not the questions, so you don't get to know what you got wrong on the test. SI helps and the book helps. Also, if you answer a question in class she seems to take it offensively.
GO TO THIS CLASS! I made the mistake of skipping alot, and my grade definitely reflected that. The iClickers are regualar, and can help alot. Read the book before you get to class, so your prepared. The notes are great, but make sure to study. The prof. herself is very nice, and willing to help. Also, go to the SI!
She is a good lab professor. She makes sure that she explains everything before you begin, and is always willing to answer your questions. One downside is she tends to stay in one lab room for the whole experiment, neglecting the kids in the other lab room. overall good, I would take her again. The TAs on the other hand, were very useless.
Prof. Tillinger is awesome. She is so helpful when you approach her. SI helps a ton & is highly recommended. I didn't really use the book, but I'm sure it could help if your struggling. Her notes on the board keep you awake and going :)
awesome professer she taught as if you are going into a health profession not becoming a rocket scientist
She's a tough teacher but if you put in the work, you will do good in the class. Make sure to review the notes every day because it helps you retain the information. She lectures a LOT of information in one day so TRY not to miss class. Great teacher, YOU need to put in the effort to learn the material and don't be afraid to see her if you have q's
I had her for CHM 157 lab. While the labs aren't the easiest, she's very willing to help you understand them and answer questions. Great lab instructor.
Very helpful teacher and easy to understand
Shes tough, but you can go to her office and she will help however sometime when someone asks a question she doesn't understand she makes up an answer that doesn't make sense. She does get ahead of herself with homework so be prepared for that!
shes alright, lectures dont help for the tests. the tests are pretty hard and she only teaches the very very basics in lecture. I had trouble all semester but she curved the class alot at the end and i ended up with a 3.7
She was very difficult to talk to, and I felt she always thought the class was lying to her for some reason. She had virtually no curves whatsoever!!! A very small one at the end that won't even help. Read the book!! Tests were always long and hard!! Quizes were okay if you studied!! I'd recommend Taylor instead - but either way, READ THE BOOK!!!
Loved this professor. Fun, clear, helpful, and most of all fair. That doesn't mean it's an easy class. It requires a lot of work/studying.
She was our lab teacher...didn't see her once.
Absolutely great. I've never taken CHM in my life, and had to as part of an accelerated second-degree program, and she made it as manageable as possible with great explanations, and rather clear outlines of what she expected for her exams. Would definitely recommend!
She is an awesome professor! Very easy to understand and learn in this class. If you are going to take chem 104 definitely take it with her!
She was incredibly rude and unfair. She gave no curve and would make you look like a joke when you'd ask her a question. She also would never admit to being wrong, even when she'd put the wrong notes on the board. I recommend Taylor instead (READ THE BOOK THO). She also doesn't give you the 3 hours you're entitled to on the final. VERY BAD TEACHER!
I would definitely recommend Dr.Tillinger! She's intelligent, helpful, and a joy to learn from. Her exams aren't unfair, and there isn't too bad of a homework load (it was all online and due on the day of the exam).
I really enjoyed her as my teacher.
Very clear and on topic. Teaches off the chalk board, but writes everything down in perfect note format so you just need to copy as she goes along. Book was hardly used except when I needed a reference or extra example. Study hard for the scheduled recitation quizzes and you will get an easy grade.
Classes are fairly easy, exams are HARD! Study, read the book, make note cards, do whatever you have time for. The test questions do not always reflect what has been taught in lecture.
I love her as my teacher.Had her for CHM 104 and now for CHM 201.You need to study though, mostly from her notes. She does give everything in the lecture. She loves asking questions about differences on major groups (i.e ester,amine..)and boiling points.I personally love her but I study hard.
Horrible Professor. Lectures do not relate to the test whatsoever. Her study guides don't relate to the lectures or the test! Rushes through lectures and always seems annoyed when people ask question. Class average on last test and quiz were around a 50%. Do not take!
She is a really nice lady but her class is hard. her notes barely have anything to do with what she puts on the tests/quizzes. Class average was usually a 50-60%. Messes up frequently and gives reviews the class period before the day of the test. notes make sense when reading but dont help on tests!
She can be very rude at times. Her class averages a 50% on almost all tests and quizzes. Most of the questions on the test are not what was taught in class or the questions are ten times more complex. She is a very smart lady but she is not a good teacher. I am a chemistry major and she almost made me change my mind.
She explains everything in class and has practice exams online, which helps because the exams are similar. If you don't get what she teaches then you have to ask and find out why. She is helpful and will explain anything you have difficult with. Try to master everything she teaches because the exams are kind of tough but easy if u studied
She spends over half the class facing the black board. She used terms which hadn't been covered yet. She never understood students' questions, and, if she did, she did not seem to know the answer. Her study guides had nothing to do with the exams. I studied and did the homework, and still could not do well at all. I had to drop.
She is a very nice lady but I hardly ever talked to her one on one. During her lectures she would use the easiest examples then on the test she would put the hardest ones and did not leave you with enough information from class to excel on the tests. If you are going to take this class I recommend a lot of studying from the book.
This is an absolute terrible professor. She faces the black board 99% of the time and I have learned nothing from the class thus far. She is happy about 50% averages on exams. STAY AWAY. Oh and she is a performing arts major...
All notes are written on the board in class. Must have good attendance to have a chance. Does a lot of examples in class that are very easy, so you think you understand. But come test day the problems are much harder and more involved. Pretests are also much easier than the real thing. Form a study group, do the smartworks, & to teach yourself
her exams do not reflect what is taught in lecture. I REPEAT. her exams DOES NOT reflect whats taught in lecture. DO NOT TAKE HER. Class is a joke. writes on chalkboard. Examples in lecture are a cake walk. On exams different story. Better off teaching yourself.
I thought Tillenger was an excellent professor, but her tests and quizes are difficult, and you HAVE to study from both her notes and the book. Overall I highly recommend this prof.
This was the worst professor I have had at Oakland. My experience with her and this class was absolutely terrible. She doesn't know what she is talking about and she has her back to the class 99% of the time. Practice exams don't relate to actual exams. Exams are extremely hard. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Her notes aren't helpful at all, she won't put them in a powerpoint or post them online so she wastes time writing on the chalk board that you can't even read from eraser marks, and her tests average a 55-60%. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone who isn't amazing at chemistry.
Overall decent professor. Covers material really quickly, some questions on her exams she will never go over, and if you miss class you will feel even more lost. Altho 95% is a 40 that will change due to the amount of people that get below 65% in the class.
Very difficult, I recommend to try another professor if possible. I enjoy science courses, but I was disappointed with Tillinger.
She frequently stumbles over words and has problems explaining things. Do the Smartworks.
good teacher but a difficult subject. just because a subject is hard doesn't mean the teacher is doing a bad job. she knows her stuff and will help if asked.
She writes all her notes on the board so it takes really long to cover a topic although she is very thorough. The tests are hard but the smartwork helps a lot. Not the best professor I was frustrated a lot but i did ok
She is an ok teacher but if you dont attend class and take good notes it will kill you. Do the smartwork and study from the book.
I found this professor to be very helpful. She writes her notes on the board, and they are exactly what you need to memorize and be able to apply for the exams and quizzes. Exams are hard but curved, but if you study her notes and do practice problems it's possible to do well in the class.
By far the most amazing chemistry teacher i've had. was worried going into chem but ended up with a 3.7 overall. very helpful and easy to listen to and really cares about her students. written notes are clear and test questions come straight from her notes. i never used the book and still did well on every test. take her!
Her tests are difficult if you are not prepared. You need to read through the book and notes, and make sure that you know everything forwards and backwards in order to do well. She's willing to help you if you need it. Her lectures are easy to follow because she writes everything on the board very neatly. Overall, she was a good teacher.
I wouldn't say she's great. Her notes are clear and organized. You could study off of that and get an A. She uses chalkboard so going to class is recommended. Not humorous, doesn't teach in an interesting way. Just straight to the point. Kinda like a textbook. Homework's a drag though but it's extra credit. Do it, you'll do well.
She is the WORST professor I've ever had. I'm a normally a great student but she was awful. She keeps her back to you the whole time and has a horrible time answering questions. Avoid at all costs!
She is the worst professor I've ever had. Be prepared to teach yourself everything about chemistry. The only saving grace is the lab, which is 20% of your grade. She never responds to emails, and she's constantly making mistakes in the in-class notes. She doesn't want to help with anything. DON'T TAKE HER. PLEASE.
She is the worst professor that I've ever had.Her notes are all over the place and are hard to follow for review.I tried emailing her a few times;she never responded. You can tell this isn't her interest, and even though chm is a boring topic, she makes it worse. Her exams are tough and your "curve" is ONE extra question at the end of the test.
DON'T TAKE HER! she doesn't use power points nor does she post lessons on line to refer to later. her teaching style has really screwed me over, There are much better teachers at OU for chem than her
Worst teacher i've ever had through out school EVER! ..she is very unorganized ALL of her examples are out of the book, NO EXTRA CREDIT tons of homework (online) overall very unhelpful, unclear, doesn't care about the students average grade on every test was a 50-60% we are entitled to 3 hours on the final and she only gave us 1 hr DONT TAKE HER!
VERY unorganized. Gives TONS of online homework. Handwrites all her notes on the chalkboard, so don't miss class. Terrible at explaining things and gives little help if you ask for clarification. Basically need to teach yourself everything again usong the book. Try to switch out if you can!
Doesn't lecture, writes the notes with students. Tests and quizzes are crazy hard. Basically go to class and you wont fail.
So bad. Not helpful. Tests are obnoxious. Way too much homework. Take it with a different professor if at all possible.
Go to lecture, copy down the notes from lecture, and do the smart works, which is 5% extra credit to final GPA and you are guaranteed a good grade. Look through in the textbook for clarification. You must put in the effort in order to succeed, which you should in the first place. If you don't want to do that then don't bother taking the class.
This is by far the worst professor I ever had for chemistry class. She is very nice but her exams and quizzes are very hard. She doesnt lecture at all. she writes all her notes in the class and posts two days before the exam. All I could I say it was by far the worst class I ever taken. I recommand not to take with her.
Be prepared to study for this class every minute you have available. Tillinger expects you to understand the in's and out's of every concept. Test answers involve: 1 of the above is correct, 2 of the above is correct, all of the above, none of the above, kind of thing. Attend class, get the notes, and study from the class discussions!
CHM 201 was a difficult course, especially taking it online. Be prepared to study hard. Prof. Tillinger was very helpful during the online office hours through Elluminate. Responds to emails and disc. boards posts within a few days. Exams are hard, but she gave us a pretty generous curve in the end.
she is nice and hot but a terrible professor. her exams are incoherent and you dont have enough time.
Absolute worst professor I've ever had. She writes her notes out and doesn't teach...all she does is talk and write. She's terrible. Makes everything unnecessarily hard. Her tests aren't that bad if you know EVERYTHING SHE SAYS. If you aren't good at teaching yourself, get a new professor. I depended on the book. Switch out if you can!!!
Prof. Tillinger was just one of the worst I've had so far. She confused herself with her own notes and would ocnstantly go back and change and scribble out what she had written. She prided herself on her hard exams, but really she just expected too much from what little she taught. DO NOT TAKE. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
She explains material well. However, her exams and quizzes are very difficult. I found myself reading over her notes and using the book a lot. I recommend going in to her office hours and SI sessions if they are available!!! She is very nice and will take time to work with you.
She does not know any conceptual information, and always fell back on using math examples to try to answer our questions. She is also very rude. I don't recommend taking her. Chemistry is not a hard subject, but with her, she doesn't teach it well. The final was harder than her class/exams. She did not prepare the class well enough in my opinion.
she was more of a physics professor than chemistry and somehow turns everything into a math problem so if math is your thing go for it otherwise find a better chemistry professor
I got a 4.0 (90% or higher is a 4.0) in this course mostly because I studied chem before. The OWL HW/Quizzes/Labs are more stress than helpful. Moodle exams are easy, in person noticeably harder. Online lectures are a joke, didn't even listen to any of them. She does give a nice curve. Planning on taking organic online with her next semester.
She's not exciting, but she explains the material well and the tests are curved anyway. I didn't go to recitation and still did fine.
Was a nice person and wrote all the notes out as she spoke but tried to shove so much into 1 hour that she would skip steps in her problems. Tests were hard and only 20 questions so a couple wrong would kill your grade. The final was horrible, nothing like the way she worded her questions all semester.
She literally reads the textbook to you for her lectures and never shows you example problems. The life examples she provides are even from the book. Then her tests are based on math problems.
One of the best professors at OU. She truly cares so much about her students actually learning the material & wants to help us succeed. She's not perfect, the course is hard, but she really does care & it shows. With her help I got a 4.0 in 157, and I'm so glad I took her for 158. Definitely recommend her, she's very clear & an excellent professor.
Prof Tillinger is great. She truly knows and loves chemistry and is always willing to help. These are not easy courses and require a lot of studying. Her exams are difficult, but she curves them. The exam averages in 158 were in the 40's/50's so she made us do retakes and replaced our scores. Overall a great prof, would recommend.
Took her first semester of General Chemistry- got a 3.7. Requires studying outside of class but did not strain myself too hard. Takes the notes by hand with you which is nice because it's easy to keep up. Explains math well. Exam problems are a lot like her quizzes. Very flexible and easy to communicate with over email. Not sure about Chem II, tho.

Terrible professor. Very unclear. Exams were rather difficult. Notes were seemingly endless. I went through two notebooks of her notes/examples that were mediocrely relatable. Poor at answering questions, especially promptly. Lab was the only thing that saved my grade. Standardized final was on things that we hardly covered.

Her tests are very hard! You need to study. Our class did horrible on tests so she ended up giving retakes which was nice. We had two retakes. She is nice but it is just an overall hard class.
Here's the thing. Organic chem is a hard course by itself, taking it online makes it just a little bit harder. Tillinger is kind of spacey and doesn't always respond fast to e-mails, but she gives a great curve at the end. I for sure thought I was going to get a 2.7 in the class according to her posted grading scale, but ended up with a 3.7!
I thought I was doing myself a favor by not taking Joel but I obviously didn't... Be sure to bring lube to each of your exams that are nothing on what she lectured about.
I have no idea why she has such bad reviews on here. Tillinger is a great chemistry professor! Of course the exams are hard, it's chemistry. You have to study if you want to do well in this class. Tillinger is very clear when taking notes and very helpful outside of class. I don't like chemistry but got a 4.0 because of her! Would highly recommend
She is a great teacher SHE IS TOUGH but thats b.c Chemistry is really tough anyway she curves exams and the final and is always willing to help her students I really like her but do not take this class if you dont plan on studying VERY HARD dont take her her exams are tough but doing xtra credit helps
I took her class for both CHEM157 and CHEM158, got 3.6 for 157 and 3.8 for 158. Chemistry is not a easy class, I think she explained pretty well for all the important concepts. Come to her lectures, I think her lectures are really really helpful if you can understand the note and take all the notes while she is writing on the board. Recommend Her!
I never missed a class and still struggled in her class. I tried hard, and studied but the exams were nothing like the problems she used for examples. The class average was so low for all exams that she had to allow "retakes" where she would average the two exams. It didn't help you if you failed the first time at all. Never taking her again.
I loved her a prof. Her method in teaching is very old school with writing down notes. Do the online homework- not only is it extra credit, but it will help when it comes to the test! Go to her office hours for extra help, she'll get to know you. Best CHM 157/158 teacher that there is.
Her lectures were clear, and she taught the material well with well-organized notes. But, the questions on the exams were not at all like the ones she makes you practice in class. She specifically said she tries to trick you her exams and they are HARD. And what I hated most is that she keeps class going 5-10 mins late, and couldn't care less.
I honestly haven't put enough time into studying for her class because of my other classes. This has resulted in me getting 50% on the first 2 exams. She goes 5-10 minutes after time during lectures and tricks you with test questions that are nothing like the examples from class. Im going to have to retake CHM 145 unfortunately with Tillinger again
In my opinion, she knows what she is talking about, but at times she has a hard time executing it well and in a way that the students will comprehend. Also, she teachers lectures very fast so it was hard for me to take in the information because I was writing it down. On the plus side she uploads practice quizzes etc as well as her notes.
I never went to most of the lectures but still passed with a 4.0 just because everything 90%+ she marked as a 4.0. That should give you a hint of how hard it can be. She offers great ways to earn a good grade, like replacing your lowest exam score with your final exam score (if it is higher). She also gave me a chance to redo my quiz I had to miss.
Ancient style of teaching. Writes out all of her notes on paper which is extremely time consuming. This causes less time spent on important material that will be on exams. Exams aren't impossible, but the final was horrible. 85% of the class didn't finish the final on time. Avoid her if possible.
Her tests are ridiculous. Every option that is not the correct one is meant to trick the students, which is unfair. She bases the entire course off of three tests, the final exam, and Mastering Chemistry as extra credit, so basically if you have a hard time on the tests, you're screwed. Her lectures are insanely long and she teaches too quickly.
Just terrible.
DO EVERY SINGLE MASTERING CHEM!!!! IT WILL HELP YOU PASS her exams are tough and you really have to study with the book. passed with a 3.8 with the help of mastering chem. exams are not as fair because it is multiple choice only meaning no partial credit on any of the answers so if you miss more than 2 questions you cannot get an A on the exam..
This class was one of the hardest classes I've ever had. Lectures not clear or helpful. She writes and talks nonstop and doesn't even take a minute to lift her head and answer questions. If a student puts her on the spot to answer a question from the text she stumbles and confuses whole class even more. Tests are 20 mult. choice & worded to confuse
This class is structured horribly. You can do all of the required reading, homework and online homework on top of that and do fine and then fail the quizzes and tests. I had one, only ONE snafu with internet while attempting to take a quiz and tried calling her to discuss and she never even returned my call. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF FOR THIS CLASS!
Her tests were fair and covered all the material that was presented during the lectures. Here notes are crucial to study for the tests as well as doing review problems in the book. She also has available online extra credit for each test, but it can be tedious.
Her tests were the worsttttt! Her notes were amazing but honestly I would never take her again. I don't believe she is telling the truth when she says her tests are straight forward. HER PRACTICE TESTS ON MOODLE ARE EASIER THAN THE ACTUAL EXAMS. I would never take her again.
Chemistry is a onerous course. Expect to work hard for your grade, regardless of the instructor. Acknowledging this is a good start. Her power points are invaluable to understanding of concepts presented and the methodology of naming structures. I strongly recommend reviewing them multiple times before doing the homework and taking the tests.
Just horrible
Great professor. Her notes are extremely extremely simple. She teaches you as if you are a 1st grader. However she only gives u three exams and a final that's it which can easily kill ur grade if u mess up on one. She gives online extra credit but u have to buy a code $60. Her notes are extremely easy to understand. Her exams are eh fair.
Expect to watch you tube videos to help learn the material, her exams are difficult, and class average on her exams are about 40 - 60%. She does not curve so expect the grade you get, your grade.
Chemistry is a hard class in general but it did not help having a sub-par professor. Your grade is based off of 3 exam and the final so not much room for error. The exams are very tricky. Her notes are easy to follow but she teaches you one way and the exams are completely different examples. Nothing was curved so your raw grade is your grade.
Worst chem teacher ever. Turn around and run away, you will not pass. Our class averages were always in the 50s or below and she would never curve. Only 3 exams, 20 questions MULTIPLE CHOICE! No room for partial credit and getting 5 wrong (which shouldn't be considered bad) is already a C. Ask her questions in class, she stutters and avoids it.
Absolutely horrible professor. Doesn't cure, even though the exam averages are around 50%. Your grade is solely based off of 3 exams and a final leaving no room for error. This is the first class I've ever had to retake. Avoid her at all costs.
Taking this class online is great because you get to learn at your own pace. go over lectures a couple times and do ALL the homework and quizes (takes about 3-4 hours for each chapter so leave enough time to finish everything) she curves generously on exams and gives extra credit for homework. i'd take her again, she was super nice and helpful
Grade based off of 3 exams & the final. Mastering Chem. is extra credit & would highly advise you complete all of it. Exams are anywhere from 10-20 Q's therefore getting a good grade is impossible. Class avg usually around 40-50% & she doesn't curve. Awful lecturer & never looks up from her paper. 1st class i have to retake & I love chemistry.
Nice teacher, clearly wants to help but not good at it. Lectures are hard to understand, doesn't answer questions clearly and rushes too quickly through lectures. Only reason I got a B+ was because she curved the final heavily. If your going to take at least have a good grounding in Chemistry, otherwise don't bother.
Pros: -If you like having a professor write word-from-word notes with you, she does it. -She posts ALL notes on Moodle Cons: -3 MULTIPLE CHOICE exams, 1 (possible standardized) final -All exams are out of 20, meaning you have NO room for error. -Does not answer ?s clearly AT ALL. Stuck retaking the course, however 4.0 the lab, funny huh?
Gives easy extra credit that boosts your grade by 5% and a 90% or above is counted as a 4.0 - how much easier could it get? Lectures are long and boring, as she writes down every little word she says (kind of treats us like middle schoolers in this regard). Exams are pretty tough but study her notes (she posts them on Moodle), and you'll do fine!
Really hard to get a good grade in this class. Grade is based on 3 tests and a final The tests are out of 20 points but there is extra credit worth 5%. Do the extra credit no matter how long it takes. Her lectures are long and annoying but her notes for the exams and you should be okay.
Lectures are extremely long and very unclear, unless you have already taken AP Chem don't expect to understand anything. Her tests are very difficult and the only grades you have. Avoid taking her if you can, if not then be sure to do as much of the extra credit as possible.
Exams are not curved. Her teaching style is that she takes notes along with the class, as well as examples. Quizzes are all True/F; understanding the concepts are essential to passing. The exams are similar to the quizzes except no T/F. I recommend reading the book and following along with her notes to get a better understanding of the chapters.
As said multiple times before, her tests are very difficult unless you have a STRONG chemistry background. The exams are very unforgiving because they're multiple choice and no partial credit is given. You're either 100% right or 100% wrong. Class averages were laughable. HW is all online & offers no feedback. Lazy teaching and grading style.
She's really mediocre at best. Grades were solely based on tests and quizzes. Quizzes were fair, but tests are full of trick questions and examples that weren't gone over in class. She relied too much on the S.I. professor to cover her slack, but not everyone can make it to S.I., making her class harder than it needs to be.
Overall a very frustrating experience. Exams are worded tricky and not very straightforward. Expect a mix of equations and multiple choice questions that cover material barely touched upon during lecture. Online homework often contains concepts not covered in class. Expect to self teach & become good friends with google and youtube.
Super hard test and teaches a lot like a first grader. She does not believe in curves and when you go for help she is not very helpful.
aww full teacher. Her exams are hell and she does not do curves at. Her final was so bad that no one scored higher than a 35 out of 50.
All the people who said her exams are hard probably didn't go over her notes before exams. Her notes are very clear! 7 quizzes during recitation, they are straight up from her notes, and she drops lowest two. Her exams are A LOT like her notes you just have to make flash cards of concepts and relationships and redo examples she does in class.
Tillinger is a great instructor, but only if you ask questions. Her lectures are boring but her notes can be very helpful. For her tests knowing the concepts are a must. Other than that is it not as bad as it is made out to be
She has 7 quizzes and drops the lowest two, 3 exams, and mastering chemistry extra credit. I got A's all of the quizzes (they were exactly like her notes) and then nearly failed every exam. Exams are a lot more difficult and confusing than the quizzes and they're only 20 questions so it's nearly impossible to get an A on them.
I learned a lot in this class. She's smart and helpful. Quiz almost every recitation. Sometimes she talks in circles, but she hand writes all notes with you and it is really nice. She answers questions. Exams aren't too bad, but the final was one giant question mark. Go to class. If not, her notes are all scanned online.
Very difficult to learn from. She's a nice person but her notes are confusing because she takes them in class on the board. She does offer extra credit and does give you quizzes. There is no homework though and the tests are difficult.
Tillinger is one of those professors that you're either going to like or hate. I think she's a great professor-easy to understand, clear notes, and quizzes really aren't too bad. You definitely need to study. With all chem classes, you need to try. A lot of people think the exams are hard, but as long as you understand the notes, you should be fine
Tests are hard and the class is mainly her reading off notes. Don't learn anything more from her than what she wrote down from lectures. Great person just not the best teacher.
Tests are SO hard and her classes are basically her just copying something and saying it out loud while writing it down... She posts all of her notes online so going to class is really pointless. I really don't learn anything from her, have to teach myself from looking at the book. Very nice person though. Don't recommend taking this class.
Lectures were useful, but the notes she went over were all posted online. Homework online was done for extra credit, not required, but completing it was helpful for quizzes and tests. Tests were 21 questions out of 20. Quizzes were online. 2 lowest quiz scores dropped. Class was easy to do well in. If you don't understand something, ask peers.
Please dont be fooled by the few positive remarks about this prof. I am one to usually look past bad remarks and hope for the best. There is no best side to this prof. Avoid at all costs if you want to keep your GPA & major. There is E.C. up to 5% but its not enough to help .Self taught course. Save yourself its too late for me now.
Yes you will have to work extremely hard to pass this course, just because chemistry is tricky in general. However, out of all the prof's that teach chem, Tillinger seems like the most decent one. Self teaching is a MUST! Memorize her notes and do the Mastering Chem practice problems. Her tests ask VERY similar questions to her notes and the HW!
Professor Tillinger is a great teacher. If you go to class and actually pay attention and also study concepts you don't understand after class you will be fine. It requires a good amount of studying to do well in the class, but it's not overwhelming unless you never go to class. She gives a ton of extra credit homework and curves fairly.
Prof Tillinger is overall a good choice. Her lectures are not the most exciting but she takes notes on the overhead with the class which I, personally, can appreciate. She's available for questions after the lecture and during break. Final Exam is created by ACS, not too difficult but she doesn't curve it like the other chem profs!
Great professor, if you've taken Chemisty before you'll do fine. Extra credit is offered, do it! It's great practice for exams and quizzes.
Gives great notes and is a decent lecturer. Tends to go too fast so she can cover everything and isn't the best at explaining things. I figured most of the stuff out using her notes and the online homework that is extra credit which everyone SHOULD DO! Terrible office hour times. Would take again only b/c of the notes (which she also puts online).
Often crammed last minute notes in before an exam or quiz.
Pretty average in terms of teaching, workload, etc. The lectures weren't particularly interesting. It's strange that people are saying that she is a tough grader- I got an A because of a very significant grade curve (I got 70%s and 80%s on my tests).
Professor Tillinger is a pretty good professor. The class is pretty tough and there's a ton of material. She sometimes speeds through material so you have to go back and read the material. No need to buy the whole book package; if you just buy the online code, it includes the online homework as well as the etext.
I wouldn't recommend professor Tillinger. Her exams were rough. The homework was extra credit which was nice but it's ALOT of work. Quizzes are also online. There's alot of material in this course but she rushed through it at the end. Learned 2 and a half chapters in 1 day the last week of the semester. She's an ok person but not the best teacher.
This class was hard. She talks to her students like they are children and is very fast paced. Nothing in her class is curved and the exams are difficult. The quizzes are online and there is extra credit homework. DO IT. You'll thank yourself even if it takes days to complete. The final was a standardized exam. All this class did was stress me out.
Notes are online so attending lecture is not totally necessary if you're into that. She writes the notes out as you do which is helpfull. If you average at least a B on each exam you can potentially end with a 4.0 IF you do the extra credit homework!!!
Straightforward professor. Writes notes out on projector & posts them online after class. Her notes are very organized & methodical, & the lectures are average. Class is structured fairly & generously. Quizzes online & she drops a couple. Homework is online & extra credit - DO IT. Curves on exams. a 90% or above in class is considered a 4.0.
I've never struggled so hard in a class before in my life. I took this class online, and she responds to emails over a week after being sent. Exams were NOTHING like her lectures. Do the extra credit. Self taught course - I did not learn a single thing from her. Grading scale is awesome though compared to my other classes but much needed.
I had her 10 years ago for chem 157 lab. She was great and helpful. Also clear with expectations. If I can do it again, I would take my 5 chem classes with her.
Show up and do the homework and you should pass. She lectured alright, better than some.
Nice enough, but does not go into enough detail. Only teaches in one style, which is not helpful for everybody. Only grades on tests and quizzes.
Loved the way Tillinger takes notes with the class. It's very organized and makes the material very easy to understand. She is a fair grader and offers homework as extra credit. I reccommend doing the homework just for the extra practice but that's just me. Quizzes are online, tests are short and multiple choice. I enjoyed having her as a prof
Good professor who hand writes notes, which makes the material easier to understand. If you don't attend class, the notes are on moodle. A 90% is a 4.0 in this class as well. Prof. Tillinger is also nice and understanding.
Not only is the online homework extra credit, but it taught me everything I needed to know personally. Other chem professors require the homework, so you might as well take Tillinger and learn while getting extra credit. Attendance is optional and the notes are online, this is the most laid back chem class I've ever taken.
If chemistry is not your thing then stay away far away as possible. Sure she hands writes notes thats great! ... but she only puts the easy stuff on her notes which is bs cuz you get the tests (which are hard af) and you see problems you haven't seen before so don't rely on just her notes you gotta teach ourself some of the stuff too.
3 exams full of confusing questions that were nothing like her lecture notes. She uses the ACS final and the average is a 50%. She rushes through course material and crams information until the last minute. This was a self taught course. I don't know how she has positive reviews. If you want to keep your gpa up, take a different professor.
I hate chemistry and Jennifer only made things worse. Not only did I not want to go to class but I found it pointless to go as she did a poor job of explaining the material. Googling quiz answers got me through and self teaching from the book before tests was the only reason I passed.
I never went to class, because they were so dry. But all the lectures are online so really you don't even need to go. All of the homework is online and extra credit. Textbook is never used, but you need the online code for quizzes. You can find most answers to online quizzes online. Her test were always pretty simple, and with basic questions.
I never thought Chem is a tough subject until I took this class. Content is interesting but the quizzes and exams are confusing. 4 out of 10 questions are about finding the wrong statement from options! Why not learn finding a right statement!!! Never get to learn from mistakes, as the reviews doesn't say whats the right answers. SI is a life saver
Prof tillinger writes out the notes with you in class while explaining which really helps with remembering the material for the exams successfully. Because she did the notes in class, it took up a lot of time. Towards the end of semester, she wasn't able to teach us the last chapter that was on the final.
Chemistry it's gonna be hard no matter who you take the class with. She hand writes her notes and she stops whenever someone has a question so sometimes it can go slow, and she didn't have time to teach the last chapter, so she curved our final. Definitely not an easy A, but as long as you read the book and go to class, you will get a good grade.
Professor T was an amazing professor and I would highly recommend taking her. She is a bit spacey at times but overall lays everything out very clearly - I felt extremely prepared for all four exams. Pay attention in lecture, do your assigned homework, study a bit, and you'll do fine! She gives extra credit too!
Her lectures have a lot of information in them and she is not too clear what she wants you to focus on for her exams. Each exam is only 35 ish questions so you have to know your material to do well. Also hwk is not extra credit and includes stuff she does not talk about. Reading the book & doing book problems is super helpful for exam practice.
Professor Tillinger is one of the best professors I have ever taken at Oakland University. I took her for general chem and organic, biochemistry. These classes in general are not easy, so you will need to put in the work and study hard to get that 4.0. She is very caring, and always available during her office hours; take advantage of them!
Shes super unclear about whats on the exams and tells you to study things that arent necessary. Take home assignments are unusually hard. However, the final exam was easy and a 4.0 is possible if you study a lot. I wouldnt take her if theres another professor available.
I came from a higher level chemistry class. I transferred here, so i had to take a chemistry 1040. This class notes are posted online after, going to lecture really does not help much. The lectures make it a lot more confusing then needed. Spends too much time on things that wont be tested. Exams have weird questions and are too short. She is nice.
Not a very good professor. We got behind because of snow days so she sped up her lectures and was unclear about what she was talking about. Put stuff on quizzes that we talked about that day in lecture. Skips around in her lectures and is extremely hard to follow.
I pay a lot of money to take these courses and I expect well professors. Wasted my time and money. Do NOT take her. She may be nice but we are talking about education here.
She started off the class saying "this class will be easier than your high school chemistry class." LIES. If theres another professor available please take the other one. It is an INTRO class it should not be this difficult. She just doesn't seem to care about our grades and thats the worst quality to have in a professor.
She rushes through lecture and doesnt take the time to explain and make sure her students understand what she is talking about. If you dont put any time in studying and cant teach yourself material on your own, pick another teacher.
She gives way too hard of exams & quizzes they are out of 20. Too much homework & very time consuming for it only being 10% of our grade. She says study something specific & doesnt end up on quizzes. Little extra credit. Her teaching style is confusing & just reads off her notes. Poor attitude and compassion towards her students. So disappointed.
Very average professor. Her exams are easy and straightforward as long as you went to the lecture. Skip lecture though you will have a hard time in the class. Homework takes a while but it's manageable. If you are taking gen chem 1, I would recommend taking it with her.
One of the most annoying teachers! Lecture notes are fill in the blank which she reads word for word. She cannot explain concepts without saying "in terms of" at least 75+ times during class. Focused on explaining the 'why' more than she is teaching you how to solve problems that will be on the exams. The final had things she never taught in class
Dr. Tillinger could be better if she was organized. Content got harder through the semester, and we got behind. The Final is the ACS First Term Chemistry Exam, which is standardized, and the hardest thing Ive taken. Offers extra credit through Mastering Chemistry, but a small amount. Couldve been a better experience if it was planned effectively.
I dont know why i took this class even after i read all these reviews. She was so unorganized, with lectures and grades in moodle. If you can study on your own and learn youll be fine but in my opinion if theres anyone else take them trust.
overall GREAT professor!! her lecture outlines were straightforward and helpful especially for exams. online extra credit homework is tedious but worth it. she prepared us well for the ACS final exam. a 90 is a 4.0 and can easily be earned if you put the work in. not always available during office hours but loves to answer questions in class.
I had Tillinger for Gen Chem 1 after not doing well in chemistry in high school. If you go to class, write down the notes, AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT you will understand chemistry. Her notes are clear, she writes neatly, and there isn't anything that's on the exams that is not in her notes or in the EC homework. I recommend to anyone who's motivated.
1. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THE BOOK, YOU DONT USE IT 2. TEACH YOURSELF, SHE DOES NOT TEACH WHAT IS ON THE EXAMS. 3. She gives extra credit, so that will at least save your grade 4. Godspeed spiderman
Sweet lady, but she can't form a coherent sentence to save her life. She doesn't really explain things, just reads it and moves on. The final is worth over half the course total grade and there's iclickers every day for attendance and points. And I hope you like the phrase "in terms of" because she says it every five seconds.
Do not take her for lab lecture. She does not explain anything and although her notes always look pretty, they are not helpful at all. She does not provide study guides/review guides for exams and she actually emailed us at 10:30 PM the night before our final to give us information about the final exam. I dont think Ive ever seen her smile.
Her lecture style is reading a sentence off of her notes, and then writing it down, over and over. Her notes are useless and she doesn't explain anything, she just talks like she's reading from her notes. 90% of her class is her saying either "basically" or "in terms of".
Prof. Tillinger is a good professor in my opinion. Her lectures are easy to understand, and that is difficult to do while teaching chemistry. She made orgo very easy to comprehend, and as long as you keep up with coursework (and SHOW UP TO CLASS for iclickers--I missed some points bc of this) you will definitely get a good grade.
She's an amazing prof, but she speaks like she's talking to people who already know the subject (bad at explaining). Very, Very lecture heavy. Teaches for the entire time. Exams are hard.
Prof Tillinger WAS TERRIBLE! Took her for Gen Chem 1 felt like I learned nothing. Dont even bother showing up to class, you'd prob do better teaching urself. Never posted notes on time. In fact, she'd post like 10 minutes before class started or not at all. DONT TAKE HER!! Tests were HARD and final felt impossible. SAVE UR $$ AND TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
get ready for about 20 hours a week in work for a class where she doesnt teach you, but will yell at you if youre unmuted while shes the one who clicks the button to Unmute you. Overall one of the worst professor I have ever had. Reads off of notes and goes to fast to explain or learn from and is just overall rude to students.
Awful professor. She does not explain anything very well and skims over topics that are essential to understand for homework and tests. Nearly a 2-hour lecture and each class I come out feeling like I learned nothing. Abysmal. Constant quizzes, if you didn't understand the lecture, you will have a tough time for the entire chapter.
4 exams (final cumulative). she curves exams. BIG WORKLOAD. 2hr hw per chapter. pre lectures before every lecture. lecture quiz after every lecture. chapter quiz every Monday. so every week I had 2 lecture quizzes and 1 chapter quiz. her teaching style is difficult to understand. I LOVED the amount of extra credit offered (5%+) a 90 is 4.0 for chem
Multiple all nighter studying just to fail the test because everything we were taught to study wasn't on the actual test.
Tillinger is hilarious and a very kind soul, she will go above and beyond for her students. I love her! Class is lecture heavy and notes are very simple and easy to follow
Not horrible, but not noteworthy. She explains equations in-depth and overall I felt I did well. Her exams can be a bit difficult, make sure you study. As long as you don't unmute yourself on accident (she goes BALLISTIC), you will do fine.
If MTH and/or CHM is not your strong suit, be sure to enroll with DrT. While she really knows her stuff she is able to translate difficult material into digestible information for people who haven't seen it. Go over her notes every day, do practice problems, read the textbook and you'll be fine. Be sure to take advantage of the EC she offers.
Get ready to learn from YouTube. I attended lecture, took notes and did the homework and it still didn't make sense. She was disorganized, regularly made mistakes in notes and on exam questions, and her email responses were aloof. Her lectures were 2x the scheduled length, sometimes going through recitation time. She couldn't have made this harder.
I think in person she would be an ok professor but I don't recommend for online classes. The workload for this class alone was nearly impossible to keep up with. I did not find her lectures helpful at all and did not attend or watch a lot of them and just took my own notes from the book instead. Overall, she is an okay prof, not bad, not great.
She made me hate chemistry with a passion. So much unnecessary hw I would spend at least 2 hours a day just doing the chem hw. I took her completely online so I dont recommend her at all. Only reason I even took her was because she offered extra credit which brought me to a 96%
Tillinger was honestly a great professor. The only thing I dissliked about the class was the amount of homework assigned. She cares about her students and makes sure you understand the material. If she lowered the amount of hw assignments id def reccomend her.
She definitely assigns a lot of homework and quizzes. But she does give us guided notes which are helpful. Pre-lecture videos are helpful but the live lectures are a harder to follow (she can skim). I feel she doesn't give us enough time to memorize long important things (use Quizlet). Pretty rude over email. Acts SUPER annoyed to answer questions!
Get ready for 3 quizzes a week, 4+ hours of homework for each chapter, long and incredibly boring live lectures plus 2-3 hours of pre lectures that she always goes over the time with. Homework has almost nothing to do with most of the content, and will take forever to finish. Good luck
This professor is an example of one of those professors that do NOT care about how stressed their students are, as long as they get this class over with and get their money and leave. The amount of stress you'll feel with all that hw and quizzes being assigned can't describe how bad this class is. She made me hate chemistry and made class harder.
Professor Tillinger did not care about our class at all and it showed in her teaching. Expect a ton of homework and long pre-lecture content. The only thing keeping her from a one is that she awarded a good amount of extra credit.
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Her homework is so much to handle. It genuinely seems like she does not care about her students and acts so annoyed when people ask questions. She goes over time on every single lecture, she gives 3 quizzes a week usually, and about 3-4 hours of hw a week on top of that. Made me hate chemistry. Dont take her!
it's incredibly hard for me to describe her in terms allowed on this website. i love chemistry and had no issues with her personally, but the way she speaks to students is downright disrespectful. not to mention how little sympathy she seems to have for students struggling due to the pandemic. avoid her, she's so horribly rude when people ask q's
Steer clear from this lab professor. Horrible at communication/answering emails, but when she does, she makes you feel stupid. Does not care about her students in the slightest bit and the lectures are totally useless. She ultimately made me switch my major because of how horrible she was. Nursing students: BEWARE.
This prof is really tough. i failed her class once and had to retake it and it was just as hard and she hadn't changed a single thing about the way she taught the material. So many people failed the exams. If shes the only option for this class for you, good luck. Ur gonna be doing homework for hours, studying forever and will still do badly.
Tillinger wasn't too bad, she gives a lot of extra credit which is something you should take advantage of and she's not a bad teacher. She does give a crazy amount of homework, and many quizzes. Honestly, she's getting a 4 from me because of how much the extra credit boosted my grade.
Overall she's an okay prof for gen chem. Chemistry is very hard and you really have to work for it. She gives a lot of homework and it will take you a couple of hours to complete.... but she gives a LOT of extra credit so take advantage!!!
i took chemistry before and i was in love of my chem teacher but now i have no other option and select her as my prof for this class ,now i hate chemistry .Though i took this class for better grades now i am so pissed off that i work hard day and night and still i don't get her email replies neither her lectures are good enough.
Her notes are so extremely vague. Get ready to do houuuursss of homework and basically teaching myself the material and ripping my hair out. I'm not sure what this professor is getting paid to do exactly? read a couple slides off her notes. Hate chemistry because of this professor now.
She said we'd hate her by the end of the course. Yes, yes, we do. You will be subjected to 4 quizzes a week. If you fall behind, drop it now. Her lectures mainly comprise of her filling out a sheet, which is given out before class, which we are to fill out with her. It's practically copy and paste but with formulas: you don't learn much.
Worst teacher Ive ever had to deal with having for any subject ever. Another comment said we would end up hating her and it was not kidding. She told my class she didn't need to explain things since we already took chem. This is a beginners chem course. She is unable to explain things and has basic copy paste notes. I paid to teach myself chem.
Do not take her. Going to her class was complete pointless. I leaned everything from YouTube, save your tuition money for a good chem teacher or atleast one you can actually learn from
She is a great professor. Don't listen to the other comments! All the bad comments are from people who NEVER showed up to class. Literally only 15 out of a 50 people came to class... There is obvioulsy so much to cover in any gen CHM class and she does what is necessary to finish the material in time. If you put the work , it's an achievable A+.
Absolutely loved chem in HS. That love and passion has been brutaly murdered. Poor explanations and hardly ever available before or after class. Often the lecture quizzes featured material not taught to my class yet and covered in the following lecture
Never available before or after class. Very basic explanations with no extra details given. You are honestly so much better with a different teacher or using youtube. I went to every lecture and did all the hw and was struggling due to the poor teaching and examples given.
I recommend attending lectures live so you don't fall behind. The homework is my only complaint because it was usually harder than tests/quizzes and took time. In my experience, she was very helpful and always answered my questions when I was confused. Put in the work and do the extra credit assignments as it boosts your grade a lot!
Does Give a lot of homework but it will perfectly prepare you for chapter quizzes and tests. Do it all and understand it and you'll ace the class. She gives extra credit and her grading scale is in your favor too.
SO MUCH PRINTING and a lot of money for the homework site. I really only like her because she dropped our lowest exam grade. There were quizzes multiple times a week and no recorded lectures so if you miss class expect to fall behind. I was super confident when taking an exam and I completed failed and still don't know which questions I got wrong.
She is really nice and understanding, but this class is way more work than necessary. We had 34 QUIZZES!!!! Quiz after every lecture, and tests are kinda rough. Very concept heavy for tests, mandatory cumulative final, but there is a lot of extra credit offered. I probably would recommend Hayden instead because her work load is about half of this.
Great notes for the tests, but hw didn't always match what was in lecture. HW was 20 Q's and 10 EC Q's per chapter. After every class was a lecture quiz which seemed impossible to me, and this accounted for 5% of the grade. Overall, nice professor but this class will definitely take a lot of effort
Overall exams are pretty easy, but the workload is heavy: HW, 20 some quizzes. If she get's behind in lecture, she will not push back exam dates and the information is still on the test. She added a random extra lecture day 3 days before the final just to catch up. She reads off her notes during lecture, and does not answer questions clearly.
PLEASE PLEASE DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!!She has a rule where you can't average less than 50% on the exams (4) otherwise you get a F. Her exams are very difficult. u feel like u know what you're doing while reviewing notes but end up with a 60%. I used YouTube to study for her exams and those helped more than her notes, overall, difficult class.
Dr. Tillinger is very respectful and helps those who show they care. However, exams are very DIFFICULT and tricky. Make sure you do all the practice questions on the lecture notes and read everything there. Easy 5% EC is offered! This class will humble u, exams are worth 70% of your grade, if avg below 50% on them it's an automatic F in the class.
Chemistry 2 is an extremely difficult course. Noting this, professor tillinger tried her best. She offers a LOT of extra credit (my grade was raised by 6.1%) and a lot of grade curving. Her grading scale is low (75=B). She drops a lot of grades and offers a grade replacement with the final exam. LOTS of hw and lecture quizzes. Hard class but worth.
Stay away as a summer class. Heavy duty homework. Several hours a week consumed (36 hours to understand the subject). The tests are completely different than the homework from the book. If you want somebody to just read slides and explain nothing, then this class is for you. Introduced proctoring site for the final adding extra stress.
Organic Chemistry is brutal but doable. She assigns a TON of homework but its a grade booster. Her exams are pretty straight forward, there is just a lot of information you need to know. She does offer a ton of extra credit over the semester though. Exams are worth over 50% of your overall grade. I would take her again if it were my only option.
She was decent, but exams were really hard. She gives an extra credit boost at the end, so make sure you do your homework. Passed with a B- with curve but a C without it. STUDY!!!!
Took her from Gen Chem 1 and I will be taking her again for Gen Chem 2. Her exams are hard but they are doable. She's a great prof because she gives A LOT of EC, it's like 10% or something. Her grading scale is very generous, 90+ is an A. The final was mostly the new material btw, which sucked but it was relatively easy.
There was a lot of homework, but doing them gives you a lot of practice. Her tests were okay, but if you do not show the work, she will not give you points for guessing (multiple-choice tests). She gives you the resources to be successful. Chemistry is hard, and she does her best. Will be taking her again: lots of extra credit and 90% is an A. :)
She doesn't really go into deep detail in class, but she uploads prelecture videos that go into deep detail to help. Also uploads lecture notes. There are A LOT of assignments so if you do bad on exams, assignments and the extra credit help A LOT.She uploads previous exams as practice exams and they're super similar and sometimes ask the same question
She was a good teacher. She is very willing to help especially in office hours. Her test are not difficult as long as you study. You have a good amount of homework but it is good practice and helps cushion your grade. I would definitely take her again.
This class is difficult and requires a lot of time, but I don't believe that to be an issue with this professor specifically. Professor Tillinger does a great job at making a difficult class as easy as possible for the students. Lectures answer almost any problem you will see on hw/tests. Going to them feels mandatory to receive a desirable grade.
Does practice problems and makes it easy to understand in class. but exams are SO hard. she does give a good amount of extra credit though
Literal spawn of satin. Half the class is currently at a 50%, PA students beware. I'd rather lose to my girlfriend in iMessage basketball then do this class
OMG. Don't do it. You will be up countless nights doing cengage assignments on topics she hasn't even taught. 6+ hours per assignment just to end up getting a 70%. She has a lecture quiz for each lecture and includes things she hasn't taught yet. Everyone in this class is struggling, running on 2%. If you can, choose Jessica Koppen, she's amazing.
DO NOT TAKE! her lectures are impossible to sit through, she has the most monotone voice that can put you to sleep in 2 seconds. During her lectures she goes incredibly fast and after every lecture there is a quiz. The homework load takes 6 hours to do on Pearson. Her practice exams are nothing like the real exam. Don't do it.
Professor Tillinger is a good professor!! The class itself is hard, but if you listen during lecture and study a good amount outside of class you will do good. If you decide to not study at all you will struggle. Her grading is test heavy so study!! She uses Cengage assignments for each chapter, make sure to start those early before the due date!
Tillinger doesn't really care about your grade, or your development as a student. I get that they don't have to, but I've had professors that do everything they can to help you pass, by ensuring you're helping yourself first. Her exams are difficult, and not curved. Take Dr Koppen if she is an option.
Horrible professor, don't take her, it would be better if your behind a semester then to take her, I dont understand how she is okay that about 60- 70 percent of the class isn't passing, she needs to be replaced.
Please DO NOT listen to the people who are rating this professor bad. They are a perfect example of what not to do in a chemistry class that can be challenging. Those people did not try in her class. This is college any professor will not hold your hand anymore. If you need help in the class Professor Tillinger WILL help you!!
Professor Tillinger is honestly a good professor. Although people might say otherwise, if you actually pay attention and do your part in studying you will do great. This class requires at least 10 hours of studying a week, but it will all be worth it in the end. The cengage assignments help with studying too. STUDY STUDY STUDY!! exam heavy!!
Tilly was a challenging professor. If you didn't like her, it's because you didn't try. If you show up every class and genuinely try to learn, you'll be just fine. She will help you in the end. I studied for the exams for 10 hours each day but it was the only way to pass without cheating, unlike some students who r lazy. Work for your degree.
horrible, just save urself the headache
Don't listen to the people who say she's bad, it's just a hard class.
Do not take this professor!!! She's horrible. The homework assignments take well over 6 hours for many people to complete and the homework has almost no relevance to the exams. Her lecture quizzes are not always aligned with the lecture, so you're losing points for questions because she didn't even teach it. Brace yourself if you have to take her.
Tilly's class is tough but doable if you put in the work. Expect to study 10+ hours a week and attend every lecture. The exams are challenging, but using resources like unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook can really help. Speak up if you need extra support - Tilly will make time to assist.
prob the best chem teacher out of all ou's department but had to withdraw due to the unit tests being hard and nothing like the hw she assigns/quizzes. I'd say run and take ur classes at community college. her class size has 120 students and she can barely explain things just yaps.
You have to teach yourself everything in this class.
A lot of homework but also 5% extra credit that goes with extra homework. Lectures are helpful to attend she does lots of practice problems. Every lecture has a lecture quiz and every chapter has a quiz. Exams are not too hard. Overall the workload is a lot but also boosts yours grade with how much homework and keeps you involved. Good lectures.
This is a tough class and you need to work for the grade you want. You can't study for an hour and expect an A. Chemistry requires a lot of time and effort. She will tell you this, so trust it. JT is completely fair and a no BS type of prof.
Listen---Chemistry is a tough class. No professor will make this course light for you. You must have a 50% exam average across all of your exams, so make sure you do average on them (its okay if you fall a little short) just average it out on the next exam. If you don't understand everything, understand SOMETHING and perfect it! Goodluck!
class was okay very long. she did provide notes that you could go along with during lecture. exams werent horrible, about 20-30 questions, final was 100 comprehensive. you have to do well on the exams in order to pass the class. the homework, quizzes added up to about 15% of your grade i think.
She is not very friendly in general. Her lectures teach the most basic concept but then you are expected to do very complex versions of the homework right after class. You only get two days to do it. Chapter quizzes are pretty difficult and are only 30 minutes, which makes it hard if you are someone who needs to write things out. Take someone else!
This class has added unnecessary difficulties. Orgo is a hard class in general but the amount of assignments is kind of absurd. Instead of getting to focus on studying you will spend HOURS just trying to complete her work. Also most assignments you only get 2 days to do them so don't have work, social life, eating, etc. (sarcasm but not really)
Organic and Biochem are notoriously difficult subjects, however the Professor doesn't clearly explain the topics- rather, she simply reads off her guided notes, highlights a few things, and starts drawing structures without much elaboration. Her lectures mostly consist of rushed info dumping and brief narration of what she's drawing. Lots of HW.
she's literally so rude. like?????
DON'T TAKE HER! I could write an essay on this miserable lady. Hw doesn't align with what's taught in class. Each assignment took 10-16 hrs to get at least 80% (there's a tracker for time spent). Once, she didn't cover material needed for lecture quiz in the lecture, when I asked her to retake it she refused. Retaking w/ Koppen. I have a 95% now.
Chemistry is a hard subject. She may sound rude when you ask questions, but Chemistry will take time and practice to get good at it. Simply relying on a teacher to teach you is not enough. Dr.T stresses that. She offers EC and has lots of quizzes that help with grade boosting. 4 exams with a cumulative final. Practice and you will do fine
Professor Tillinger is not terrible. Sometimes she comes off a bit rude, but she will answer your questions. It can be difficult if you do not try at all. Her grading policy is very lenient and there are a decent amount of opportunities for extra credit. Use your textbook or youtube alongside her lectures and you will do just fine.
She is good. You will receive the grade you deserve. Her tests are fair, and shew doesn't purposely try to trick you.
Tillinger pretty much falls short in every aspect of being a professor. She respones to emails really late. It's not a good lecturer and reads off her notes the entire time. There's lots of material so she rarely goes over anything in depth plus copious amounts of hw. A good grade is definitely possible but there won't be any help from her.
I hated her at first, then after I took chem 2, I was like, I took her for granted. Mean woman for sure, but gives lots of online quizzes, hw, and extra credit that can save your grade. Exams were easy, final was the hardest thing ever because she took it from another chem professor and we never learned that stuff.
If you are reading this, listen to me. Please take her, I am a Junior in college and I have never in my life had a better prof. She is the most beautiful soul, she cares about you, and she will guide you when you need it. Yes this is a hard class but go in and give it your all show her you care and she will fight for you. Good luck.
THE WORST. Instead of providing actual lessons, she answers question sheets and calls it ‘notes'. Her hw takes 8+ hours to complete, which is completely unnecessary. If your exams average is below 50% you'll get an F on your final grade even if you had a C in the class which is completely unfair
Not a bad teacher at all but her workload was really annoying. 2 lecture quizzes, one chapter, many online homework problems a week. Also, there's constant pre lecture videos to keep up with and notes I had to keep printing cuz ion have an ipad. Chem is a really hard subject so I understand all this practice but it was just too much at one point.
Do yourself a favor and don't take her class.
You can get an A if you actually put in the work and try!!! The class isn't hard you just have to put in the effort to do so - going to lectures helps a lot. She doesn't really help at all but reading the textbook helped me and going over practice problems. LOTS of homework and lecture quiz's which are annoying
Class was so bad I had to drop it. Met with her over zoom to ask for help and she laughed at me. Shows up to class late everyday. Teaches super fast, almost no time for questions at all. I got 28% on the first exam and I studied a lot. I would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Very divisive reading other people's reviews. I will say I am having to retake this class because I need a specific grade, but not because she doesn't teach the course well-I should have put in more time. If you need an O-Chem class, take her. She breaks things down VERY LOGICALLY. Seriously impressed with her notes structure.
do NOT take her. uses cengage and if you don't know what that is, keep it that way. during the 8 week summer semester she gave us too many assignments due at one time. Its impossible to do if you have a full time job and want a life?? I just think that is very lazy of her and the exams are half your grade. Take someone else. don't waste your time
Trust the other reviews I went in thinking she couldn't be this bad, she is. Her hw looks nothing like the lectures. Exams are majority of ur grade. This professor clearly doesn't like feedback nor listens to them. Save urself, skip a semester if u have to. OU hires anyone
I understand the organic chemistry is a hard class in general, but let me preface this by saying I have gotten 7 A's in a row, the last 5 being other science classes. This professor's amount of homework was ridiculous. I only took one exam before I ended up withdrawing, and it was unnecessarily difficult.
If you're reading her reviews and thinking to yourself, "There's no way she could be that bad", please listen to me when I say this... SHE IS THE WORST! At the beginning of the semester, she threatened to ruin our lives and laughed about it. Super long lecture, tons of homework, and quizzes that do not align with the lectures. Avoid at all costs.
This may be the worst professor I have ever had in my life. Told us she could ruin our lives on an exam because we wanted to leave class on time. Told us that there will be information on the final that she wont be able to teach in class because shes a slow at teaching. Only teacher to make exam in person during shutdown dont take class at all cost
Gen chem 1: please listen when I say she's NOT AS BAD AS THE REVIEWS SAY! I'd give her a 3.5 if I could. She kind of gives off lazy vibes b/c she takes forever to grade and makes you watch a lot of pre lecture vids, but if you take the time to do the pre lecture vids, go to class, do your homework and take time to actually learn, you will be FINE.
Be prepared to teach yourself from the textbook. Her distain for students is very clear
She is a good person, but not so good of a teacher. PLEASE TAKE JESSICA KOPPEN IF YOU CAN. In this class, there is a quiz after EVERY class, on top of homework due at the end of the week, on top of Chapter Quizzes. Quizzes after lecture, normally NEVER have what we just lectured on, and are, 9 times out of 10, on material we haven't gone over yet.
