For an 8:30am class on a friday, prof Waugh made it interesting and entertaining. Exams were fair and notes were straightforward.
Prof Waugh was awesome. More professors need to be as engaged and caring about their students. She would have weekly review sessions and meet basically at the student's convenience. Exams were a lot of application but easy if you studied. Hopefully she is hired back as a sessional professor again. Great for an intro to ecology.
Made it worth getting up for 8:30 on a Friday. Awesome prof who obviously cared about what she was teaching, very helpful, and fair exams. I hated ecology before taking her class, now I love it.
excellent professor. She responds to emails with as much details as needed. She'll even responds to emails the day before the exam. She speaks too fast though, I used to record her lectures so I can write eveything down.
Don't take her class!!! She is one of the worst teachers I have ever had.
One thing that makes for a good professor is their own interest in what they are teaching. She's got that in spades. Another thing is tempo and clarity. She's quick, but I lose focus when it's too slow, so she's great! Definitely worth taking her classes!
This professor is absolutely amazing! I took ecology simply because I wanted and easy elective and had no interest, but she is so amazing at being interesting, can fully relate to students, and has ridiculous amounts of help available and is so easy to talk to in person! So glad I took this class! Plus she's a good looking lady ;)
Fantastic professor. You can tell she is very interested in the material she teaches, and she is always hanging around the lecture hall well before and well after class for questions. Downright vigilant about keeping her WebCT page updated and useful. Plus, she's hilarious: lecture on mate selection was the funniest class I have ever attended.
A professor with a sense of humour, and that is fully committed to her duty of teaching. Soo vigilant in responding to WebCT and e-mails that it catches you off-guard. But extreme helpfulness aside, she is a fast-talker and can get side-tracked during lectures. Still very young in teaching career though, high potential to become very popular prof.
Extremely helpful, responds very quickly to emails. Good sense of humor, lectures are clear and easy to understand. Probably one of the best profs I've had at UWO so far.
Of the two biology professors we had this semester, Waugh is by far the more interesting and entertaining. Her notes are very vague, however she elaborates on all of her points in class and never uses the textbook for exam material, which made studying easier. The midterm and final were both fair if you understood all the material covered in class.
She is amazing!!
Best teacher I have had at Western. Fair, personable, available for help, and entertaining. Take any course she teaches.
Fav second year prof. Class attendance is manditory for a good exam mark. Wish she taught more than one course.
Excellent lectures and handouts!
You MUST attend class, but honestly, she makes it worth it to go. One of my most memorable profs and easily the best I've had. I hated ecology until I took her class--I absolutely love it now. Even if it's not required I highly recommend you take her class!
such an amazing prof..i will never forget how helpful she was!! whenever you had any questions she was willing to help you as much as possible. it is also clear she loves what she does and is darn good at it!
her class during summer was fun,she likes teaching and is kind,i do not like her midterm and final sets of questions though.she makes tricky question which i like but she goes to the extreme .all in all she is energetic and gives life to the class.keep in mind though class is easy to follow your A is not guaranteed... study hard.
She was just fantastic. Super helpful, funny, and encouraged participation in class. Lots of ways to boost your grade - show up and do the clicker questions! Exams were fair, and she clearly loves the subject matter. Excellent!
She is an incredible professor. She introduces topics in an effective way and teaches thing only to the detail that you would be tested on. Her classes flew by for me and I'm definitely going to miss her next semester. Her midterm was very fair, and as long as you pay attention in class and do the readings you should be fine!
Such an amazing professor! So helpful, and enthusiastic. She really made me love biology and want to continue with it next year! Favourite professor in University so far for sure
Fabulous professor! Loved her! I am taking another of her courses just to have her. She makes you know your stuff but makes it fun!
She is very enthusiastic in lectures and seems willing to help students. However, I found her tests to be way too hard considering the quality of teaching. She is a lecturer, not a professor which makes her lectures somewhat unclear and her answers to questions confusing. This course needs a prof that is fluent in statistics and she just isn't.
She is a great prof that is really dedicated to teaching. She tries hard to make dull topics interesting, and you can tell she puts a lot into her lectures. She really does care about her students. She makes some lame jokes sometimes that you can't help but appreciate!
She's an awesome prof; her lectures are always engaging and clear and she really loves what she teaches!
I like her as a person, but not as a prof. I'm sure she's great in other courses, but the exams for stats are ridiculous and when class averages are below 50% on midterms all the profs do is come up with excuses why instead of being reasonable and fixing issues.
Enthusiastic and funny; great character as a person. Class topics are understandable BUT the way they wish that you apply it is extremely difficult. Loves to play word games on quiz and exams to confuse you. Questions on exams are on a totally different level then those covered in class and in textbook.
Prof Waugh is amazing. Even though we had 2 courses in one class, she made sure that she hit all the necessary requirements for each course. She is extremely helpful and friendly and wants you to succeed in her class. The textbook is a great supplement to what she covers in lectures. Her classes are always interesting.
Great lecturer! Very enthused and makes class very interesting, I liked learning from her a lot. Exam questions are a little tricky, more so than Gardiner's. Overall good experience
Hard grader.
She is very enthusiastic and is admired for that, however in terms of her exams, they are unlike anything she teaches or one would expect for her to put on an exam. Questions are not expected based on how she perceives information being taught.
She takes an hour lecture to get through 3 ppt slides. We had to skip a unit or two.
Explains very well but exams are extremely hard.
overall not a good experience
Makes everything seem simple and easy during lectures, and then the exams are EXTREMELY difficult. Make sure you study WAY more than what she teaches in lectures, and UNDERSTAND ALL the material you are taught and read in the textbook. DO NOT memorize information, you must be able to apply everything you learn do difficult situations.
The course material was very easy and basic things learned in high school biology. However the midterm was very hard and the final was a bit hard but easier than the midterm for sure. Prof moves at a very slow pace in class, very few lecture slides are covered in class.
Good prof. But wasn't clear on explaining and always made errors on her exams.
Professor Waugh spends far too long in the lecture discussing irrelevant material and expects the students to learn for themselves. There were several textbook readings each week which were necessary because the material was not covered in class. The mid-term was absolutely ridiculous (class average 52%) but the final was easier.
DO NOT rely on the lectures. It's all review from grade 12 but the exam is much harder than the lecture material. She's a good lecturer but the textbook + your own DEEP understanding will only help you succeed. The midterm average was in the high 50s because no one expected iit to be that hard. Exam's like medsci bio difficulty...
Go to class because she doesn't put all of the information you need to know for the exam in the slides. Read the textbook because it explains everything you need to know that's not explained clearly in lecture.
She's awsoeme!
She is an amazing prof I had such an incredible experience with her in stats1023. I wouldnt call it a bird course but its easy if you show up to class. She gives weekly tests online that are 3-4 questions and its basically free marks. 3 term tests were so easy so they don't consume too much time. I would highly recommend taking this course and prof
Jennifer was an amazing professor, provided a more interactive lecture experience and definitely would love to go to her lectures.
Go to lecture, talk to her if you have a problem, her office hours are awesome. Testing is mostly application-based, so make sure you understand concepts deeper than just surface level - the best way to study is to go on the forums and try to answer other people's questions, she'll check it over and let you know if you're right.
Lectures make it seem easy, exams are so hard
The material is easy to understand in class but then you get to the text book and realize it doesn't connect leaving lots of students confused. She is a very nice person but she makes her tests very hard and you are expected to know more than what she taught.
exams were no harder than high school exams, a lot of people think the course is hard because they over think what she says and what the textbook says, mainly memorization but nothing too much and nothing too difficult. if you can remember definitions you will be more than okay
Covers nothing in class, least helpful prof & genuinely treats you like you're just a number. Also, she did not seem very knowledgeable when students asked questions
Makes a difficult boring subject highly enjoyable. Really goode prof, highly engaging.
Openly disregards and makes fun of past student critiques about her teaching. Assigns the wrong chapters then doesn't tell the class. Only looks at easy concepts and doesn't discuss the more challenging. Shows us big bang theory videos? Antagonistically describes concepts (makes you believe it to be one way then next lecture says that's wrong).
Not a very good professor, don't expect a great grade out of this class. No matter how much you study, the tests only consist of about 20 questions and they are very hard. For that reason, you won't be getting a very high grade for only messing up a couple questions, that could have gone either way. Avoid her if you can.
Just listen in class and do the launchpad ASSIGNED readings. Don't waste your time on other stuff(recommended). Make sure you prepare in advance for the labs.
Takes 1 hour to cover 2 lecture Slides. Lecture Slides do not help in anyway whatsoever. Essentially acts as more of a supervisor rather than a professor. Tests on content she doesn't teach herself or advises you to teach yourself.
Prof Waugh is good at explaining concepts in class, but then exam questions can be subjectively worded and only her interpretation is considered correct. She often explains things one way, but then exam questions don't fit the class examples . Surely a class average of 58-60 in a test should be a sign that something was wrong with the questions!
Jen Waugh explains course concepts simply, but does not apply concepts to situations that can be testable. Her tests are extremely difficult and require a lot of studying to do well in the course.
It has been 6 weeks and Prof Waugh still has several pieces of work she hasn't graded or given back to us, don't take this course if you appreciate prompt feedback!
Your modern day Hitler on steroids. By far the worst class I've ever taken in my life. Gets through MAYBE 3 slides and does not teach you anything that you will be tested on. You're better off not studying because you will get the same results if you do study. If you do not need to take this class, DO NOT take it because it will ruin your life.
The material was often unclear, with the lectures and homework not matching up. Expectations were overall very unclear, with tests involving material that she had never touched on or had only mentioned once. The biggest problem I had with her was how late she handed things back, one project was handed back over a month and a half after it was due.
Even if you have learnt and understand everything for the exam or even sat the exam with a textbook, you would still get dire marks. Her exam questions are unclear, subjective & often entirely unrelated to what you have learnt during the course. She will teach definitions and then ask questions where no answer matches what you were taught
Covers the easiest 5% of material in class, get home and then discover there is way more complicated stuff in the readings that she hadn't even mentioned. Then guess what, tests are on the complicated stuff!
The toughest course I've ever taken. DO NOT touch the textbook, it is useless when it comes to here exams. EVERY exam question comes from her lectures. Record every lecture and remember word for word--then learn learn how to apply all knowledge to the questions in class. Do ALL practice questions, and comprehend every lecture. Good luck.
Her lectures are very clear and make sense, then it comes to exams and you sit there wanting to cry. Her exams are beyond anyones knowledge and the average is usually in the 50's. SO much potential because she is a good teacher but it sees like she enjoys her class average being a 50.
Her lectures are useless, they barely help with anything. She uses lectures to explain basic concepts, and when it comes to exams it is impossible to apply the information. Made the semester very stressful
Absolutely terrible lecturer. Tests completely do not relate. Had to do about 90% of my learning outside of class due to her lectures being all over the place and sometimes only consisting of 2 powerpoint slides, for an entire hour lecture.
She has great character and seems to really enjoy teaching. However, her tests are basically all analogies to things she DOESN'T take up in lecture. I do appreciate how she taught me to be more studious. Read the textbook, don't memorize, and know ALL concepts well and be ready to apply them. Exam short answer section really helped boost my mark.
Waugh spends most of the class talking about nothing important. She also isn't very good with wording questions on exams. Her tests are confusing, goodluck...
She is a great teacher. Always ready to help, if you want. Willing to give you a good mark. You will find the first exam tough, but it is only 12%. Group works depend on the group. Try to work hard, take a good use of OWL forums, & do all the quizzes in the book, & past exams. You will do just fine.
I loved Waugh's teaching style - I took this course while in third year and she far exceeded my expectations. ATTEND CLASS AND FOLLOW HER INSTRUCTIONS. She wants you to actually learn the concepts and how to apply them, not regurgitate information. If you put the effort in, you will do well (I got a 93%). Cannot say enough good things about her!
Waugh expects everyone to do work beyond what she assigns. Meaning, asking endless questions, drawing diagrams for every complex concept and even doing the supplementary readings. Majority of her lectures are useless since she uses most of the time asking students to provide their input. 90% of the exams and midterms are based on application qn's
Going to class is useless, everything she says is x100 easier than what is expected of you. She doesn't go over anything that would be relevant to solving questions on the exam. Basically do the readings/practice problems yourself and save yourself the time. (Tip: you can have your clicker open from home to get the 5% participation mark)
Her lectures are pointless because they are 5 slides and don't go over things that are actually being tested.
Engaging lectures. Put in the work and you'll be fine!
Her lectures are basically pointless to go to, but I advise you to still go to class! She goes through at least 3-4 slides in 50 minutes; assigns a ton of pages for you to read (e.g. 40-60 pages) and you have to know it for the next day. Lastly, her tests are way harder than how she teaches in lecture, so make sure to self-learn and review tons!
You really need to do the work before class to grasp a better understanding of whats going to be going on during lecture. She moves fast, but only goes over exactly what you need to know. Online quizzes twice a week but are fairly easy and you can do them in a group! If you need help, go to her office hours!! She's awesome if you ask for help!
Questions are terrible. Who gives multiple choice questions in a mathematics course?
The worst professor and course (BIO 2244) I had in undergrad.
Although Statistics 2244 is a difficult course, overall she was a very wonderful teacher who truly cares about her students. She does not judge a person for asking a simple question, and explains concepts patiently and thoroughly. Although her lectures do not fully capture everything, she is very knowledgeable as a professor and very friendly.
Waugh changed the structure of the course for our year and was still awful. She makes you think you know the content all semester but then makes assessment questions much harder than what she prepares you for. Labs are really hard. Our exam average was a 62 and she said thats the highest it's ever been and told us congratulations... Terrible prof
Prof. Waugh did a great job in teaching 1023. Very clear and concise in communicating the course material. Her resources are also very organized and she gives fairly quick email responses to questions. 1023 will be a breeze if you actually go to her lectures (you'll want to, she's hilarious and brings cookies!!!) and do all practice exam questions.
Easily worst prof at western. Very unclear teaching method, the readings are very clear, but then she makes it just as confusing in lecture. She makes the course unnecessarily hard. The labs were long but still not bad. Worst course experience I have had at Western. There are a lot of free marks, but the final is hard enough for that to not matter.
She's a terrible professor who doesn't teach her content. She stands there and basically chit chats about the material, without giving you any useful information, and then asks questions that there is no way you could answer without serious self-teaching. If she actually taught she could be decent, but she doesn't, so she is significantly under par
Professor Waugh was great at explaining difficult concepts in multiple ways so that everyone had a good understanding. Also a very flexible marker; critically evaluates her questions to make sure marks reflect understanding.
Waugh was able to make her lectures interesting which is a tough for a subject as dry and statistics. She kept her lectures interactive and was also a really good speaker. She has less of a tolerance towards individuals who do things last minute or people who do not do work ahead of time. Keep up with the course and work with a good and you're set.
Lectures were informative and explained concepts clearly. Even if you didn't go to the lectures the online/interactive textbook was good at explaining what you need to know. Waugh even gave out lots of past midterms and finals so you could practice beforehand. This made taking tests a lot less stressful and gave you a good idea what to study.
Very monotone
Not a great professor, she makes you learn everything by yourself on the textbook. Labs are extremely useful, but having the exams as all multiple choice is terrible and outdated. Exams are long, and she doesnt give enough time.
Waugh herself is an excellent professor. She teaches concepts clearly and with enthusiasm and clearly answers questions in person and through the forum. However, her exam questions are much more difficult than the practice questions in class and in the textbook. You also have a lot of pre-lecture work/quizzes which is stressful in general
Lectures are useless, if they didn't have participation there would be no point in going. You pretty much have to learn this whole course by yourself as everything you are tested on is not even touched upon in lecture.
Amazing professor. Jenny is extremely organized and very clear in her testing criteria. What's more, she provides hundreds of past exam questions to help you study, and she goes out of her way to be helpful to students by consistently answering forum questions and being available often. Hard course, but she is worth it!
None of the things match up, the lectures are useless, the readings don't prepare you for the tests, and she can't teach.
I took this course as an elective. So far I am going to the final exam with a 95 average. No risk tests are fairly easy to do well. However, Waugh's teaching style is terrible. Not recommended.
Can't run a class at all. She doesn't get assignments back to you on time (if at all), and is the driest teacher I've had in my 16 years in school. No joke. She sent half the class to write a test and there were no papers, and is probably about to remove a project from the course because she "ran out of time." DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES. ANY OF THEM.
She's a fabulous professor, competent, and provides clear explanations for concepts. Excellent ability to summarize key points and guide you along the way
I had Waugh for a summer course. I started the course with a 60%. When I told with Waugh, she stayed with me till 10 PM to help me improve. She helped me so much. Her answers on the forums were so detailed and useful- she really puts effort and time to help everyone. Honestly, the course is tough. However few if any professors care as much as Waugh
WARNING: NO BIRD COURSES IN HER CLASS!!!
She is a good lecturer but her exam questions are very difficult, not because the content is difficult but because her language in her questions can be incredibly incoherent. The material is very easy but she somehow makes the exams difficult.
Organized prof but awful. Hits you with a battery of homework from quizzes to assignments to online modules to online labs or offline labs and more. You're too busy rushing around finishing useless tasks to learn anything useful. Also beware her exam content is barely covered in lecture at all. Get ready to self learn.
An incredibly lazy prof since she only goes over the basic stuff in lectures, asking students to cover the hard stuff on their own. Test questions are incoherent and subjective. Main way to do well is spend 90% of your time doing the past exam questions, and 10% reading textbook notes (I never looked at lectures notes, they were so basic..)
I thought I'd enjoy learning about stats but have zero time to actually study and get into it because of the useless tasks she makes us do every week online. I understand it's a blended course but the in class sessions are useless and the powerpoints do not help in studying. Very hard to actually study for other than doing past exams.
Very poor professor in many ways. Lab assignments were especially annoying since they were very poorly explained and designed. Her lectures are borderline useless and very little information can be obtained from her presentations. Avoid Waugh as a professor if you can, gives the Statistics department a bad name.
Jennifer is so incoherent, she always seems to go around in circles with her words. Her lectures are awful. The material isn't even that hard, but she makes everything so much harder to understand than it needs to be and that's why students are struggling.
This course should not be as confusing as it is. Despite many activities and quizzes, I don't feel as though any of this provides any value for learning or retaining information. Lectures contain little utility, the best way to succeed is to study previous exam questions and become familiar with how to solve them. It's more of a game than a course.
Waugh is a subpar lecturer who makes the Stats 2244 course unbearable and easily the worst course to many second year science undergraduate students. Her useless lectures and lab assignments combined with lack of teaching skill make this course unbearable.
Worst prof Ive ever had so far in uni. Her lectures are very disorganized and she cant get simple concepts across without confusing students. Exams are really difficult compared to material she covers in class. Assignments and quizzes due every week, it gets really annoying when midterm season comes around. Jennifer Waugh should not teach stats.
Jennifer Waugh is an okay lecturer. She goes in depth into all the concepts and genuinely tries her best to make sure people understand. However she makes her course so heavy for no reason. Theres quizzes twice a week and constant assignments and readings. Its as if she thinks her class is the only class were taking.
She gives assignments where you have to depend on close-to-useless online modules and instead, figure out what you're even supposed to type into Google to get an answer. So glad this class is almost over.
Do yourself a favour and don´t go to class. You can do iClicker from home and she basically reads off the slides. She makes the simplest of concepts confusing and is one of the most disorganized profs i have ever had the displeasure of being taught from.
Honestly, she is a nice lady. However, she leaves lot of work after class for you, which means you have to spend huge time doing quizzes, activities, assignments etc (she said she will reduce work for future students). Read textbook, not because she suggests it, since if you don't read the book, you will have no idea about the course material
She's very nice and puts a lot of effort into the course but she's also disorganized and makes the simplest concepts confusing. I learned by myself in 3 days what she could not teach in 3 months. The inconsistencies in answers to questions is annoying. The trick essay questions makes this feel like an English course where the prof is out to get you
Probably the worst professor Ive ever had. We had 7 different pieces of homework due in the last week just a couple days before our finals. Do iClicker at home dont bother going to her class because she spends 2 weeks explaining probability (easiest part in my opinion) and 30 minutes on ANOVA (the most confusing). Her exams are absolutely brutal.
The material in this course is not that difficult, to be honest, but the way Waugh presents the information way overcomplicates things. She spends way more time on the easier components of the course then rushes through what is actually difficult. She seems like a nice person but just should not be able to design the structure of this course.
It's ridiculous how much you are expected to do on a weekly basis for this class - biweekly online quizzes, mandatory lectures, online modules, assignments, activities, etc. Reading the textbook is absolutely necessary since her lectures are completely useless unless you enjoy listening to her complain about how busy she is and try to be funny.
Horrible, the course is just horrible. Way too much reading, lab assignments take long to complete and each one is not worth that much, too many quizzes before every class and way too much-assigned reading, she tests half of what she teaches and the exams are just bad. The wording in her test questions can be very tricky and confusing.
Very difficult course, but all things considered Waugh is a great prof.
Overall, I liked Professor Waugh. She could use class time more efficiently and the lab assignments are tedious. She uses a flexible grading scheme, which is helpful and there are plenty of opportunities for free marks. She is a hard-working prof that cares about her students and genuinely wants feedback to try to improve.
I'm not sure why second year Stats so brutal at Western and no where else? Whether it's Waugh or Western to blame, this course is constructed to be way more challenging than necessary. To succeed, it's crucial to keep up with textbook readings and do the previous topic practice questions. One thing that was fairly useful was her drop-in hours.
useless. tests are impossible and lectures are garbage. i spent an absurd amount of time studying for this class, took the prep course because she was such an awful teacher and still didn't do well. i couldn't have tried harder
This class takes over your life, literally too much work and learning to put onto a student with five courses. Doesn't help that the owl page is a disaster, the sapling and owl homework requirements do not match,. The questions she creates on tests ect. make no sense, still I'm doing well in the course but this is a mess.
In my 4 years as a science undergrad who has yet to fail a course, this has been my worst post secondary experience I have ever had, bar none. The OWL page is an absolute mess and the lectures are pretty useless and even misleading in some cases. I was very surprised at how needlessly difficult the prof made this course.
Bloats the course with tonnes of quizzes, labs, assignments and readings. Lectures are in general just really confusing for topics that should be easy to understand. Waugh makes the course way more difficult than a mandatory stats class should be. Only positive is the flexible marking, which without it the class average would probably be <60
its worse than you could possible think. worst teacher i've ever had. cash grab. wants you to fail. Glad to see that i'm not the only one. tests were hard, grading was extremely slow. so slow that you lost lots of marks for not knowing what to do and of course that's your fault. when people stop caring, you know its bad.
Horrible professor and course. Justifies course averages with her flexible grading scheme, every midterm/final had average in high 50s or low 60s. She is the most unorganized professor Ive ever had in terms of giving assignment feedback. Its honestly quite sad that the one job she has is to teach this one course, and its so difficult for her.
I think people often confuse Waugh's teaching with the content of stats. Statistics is difficult, but Waugh tries her best, makes so much time for her students, and is extremely approachable. I would recommend that if you take this course, just be prepared to commit A LOT of your time towards it.
She's a good lecturer bu the course is structured so stupidly. The OWL site is complicated, there are way too many deadlines, readings, quizzes, assignments, in class assessments and more. Just. Too. Much. Also super slow grader.
Never seen a course with so much homework and material to complete. Tons of quizzes and activities and her final exam was BRUTAL. The lab assignments get really difficult if you dont has a group of people and she marks the labs super slow and wont give you any marks that you think you deserve.
Worst course Ive ever taken. Test questions do not make sense and are worded so weirdly. Too many assignments and quizzes. Also the lowest mark Ive gotten in 2 years of university.
I liked her as a prof.
Jennifer is a nice prof but the way she presents the material in class just overcomplicates everything. The material is not in itself very difficult but she will over-explain little details that can end up making it more confusing. The things she discusses in lecture have little relevance to what is actually on the exams, you have to teach yourself
Terrible lecturer. Tests are unrepresentative of actual learning. Quizzes, assignments, and activities do not help with the material and there's too many of them. Textbook reading and lectures have minimal overlap, but you must know everything. A possible week is having 2 quizzes, an assignment, an activity, a midterm and then another quiz. Brutal.
Most disorganized course/lecturer @ UWO. She comes up with every excuse possible as to why she is disorganized or why she cannot meet deadlines. WAY too much work assigned at once that she cannot even keep up with what she is assigning. Lectures are no where near the type of content or level of difficulty you need to know for her tests. Good luck..
worst prof at UWO!!!!!!!! do yourself a favor and avoid taking this class with her. She is the most disorganized prof in western. I hope she gets fired, she's full of excuses when she doesn't complete a task. It took her over a month to hand back an assignment, just to have her tell us we did it wrong. DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID.
Literally did not teach me a single thing. She is so unbelievably disorganized and terrible. Didn't come to lecture for a week. She gave quizzes about content not on midterms 2 days before the midterm. Gave us assignments that take 5-6 hours to do in back to back weeks before finals. Absolutely avoid this prof at all costs. Hope she gets fired.
Somehow makes a course with pretty straightforward content absolutely impossible. Attending all the lectures, doing all the homework, taking notes, asking for help still is somehow useless to helping you get a good grade. Highly disorganized and doesn't give the useful information or material until it is too late. WORSE course ever
Absolutely the worst prof Ive ever had. The course is an absolute mess and she managed to make simple topics into the most confusing things on earth. Anything she teaches in class is no where near as hard or what the exams are like. She is not fit to be teaching this course at all, majority of the class agrees. Worst experience Ive ever had.
The absolute worst prof I've ever had in the history if my university years. Her lectures are so scrambled I never know what she is even talking about. The final is tomorrow morning and straight up dog imma fail. rest in peace my 90 average.
Terrible course organization and teaching style, I basically taught the course to myself. The lecture material presented in class is easy to understand but not at all relevant to anything seen on an exam or practice questions. I have never been more unsatisfied and frustrated with a course!
Despite doing well in her class, I would have to say that this class was extremely disorganized and difficult to follow. Ranging from the quizzes twice a week, textbook readings, marked activities, tests, final and lab component with R, it often felt like she was just giving us as much as we could handle. Good teacher but needs to be more organized
This course is SO badly structured. You're lured into a false sense of security because of how "flexible" the grading scheme is, but where it matters most, Jennifer falls short. The lectures are always 3-4 lessons behind the content for quizzes, you never get ANY grades back for feedback, and the lecture content does NOT prepare you for assessments
The absolute worst prof I have ever had. She is so disorganized it is very hard to follow her lectures or navigate her website. Our exam is tomorrow and early today we finally received marks back from January. We pay good money for our education and should not be left with professors like this.
This is the absolute worst prof at Western. She just can't teach and goes over the easiest things in class for weeks. When it comes to the actual challenging material, she will skim it so fast. The tests are way too hard for the way the course is taught. She uses some R program crap which she doesn't teach properly but everything is based on it.
Jen Peter was interesting. She did care about us and succeeding, especially during COVID-19. However, I definitely felt that the course was disorganized. A lot of the semester I didn't really know what was going on, due to my study mechanisms but also the style of the course. Tests are for sure weird, do well in everything and DO THE PRACTICE!!!
Very disorganized. Terrible lecturer. One of the worst profs I've every had. Rushed through difficult topics and made simple topics so complicated you forgot the easy things.
Overall, she's cool.
She was absolutely horrible. Based the entire course on R studio and gave us assignments based on that. I felt like I learned little of stats and more of R coding. This course is an absolute challenge for people who havent coded before. Would not recommend her at all.
Her grading scheme is one of the stupidest things I've ever encountered and is set up to make you fail (despite what she says). Run for the hills and take this class with someone else. Nothing is posted on time and she's a whole new level of disorganized.
Stats 2244 has been the worst experience I've had in university so far. There is a different pass/fail grading scheme that is extremely stressful, especially when learning R coding. You are given insufficient information to do the coding assignments and the marking is very picky. Never got lower than 75 but seriously worried I may fail.
SHE IS A TERRIBLE PROF. The Grading scheme she implemented makes you do much worse than if it was a regular percentage based class. She tries to act sincere when a confrontation was held due to her terrible time management skills, then uses a time window for the final from 6am-6pm with no concern of students.
Worst organized course you've ever seen. Super weird marking scheme and she asks like she's doing us a favor with it but honestly I would rather drop out than do another course like this. We're getting assignments back 2 months after we submitted them... you literally just can't learn
Professor Peters got a lot of heat this semester, most of it not deserved. Yes the course felt a little hectic at times but most of this was out of anyone's control. Lectures were always delivered on time (and were of amazing quality), and questions were always answered in max 24 hours. Professor Peters cares for her students deeply, I recommend.
She is an amazing Professor and had designed the course really well in terms of applying and understanding stats concepts. But, with an online semester comes a lack of clarity and an inability to communicate as effectively as you would in person, causing an already burnt out and stressed student group to be even more stressed and anxious.
She is very friendly and ready to help students but the arrangement is so bad. I aim to get 70-80 base grade and did very much effort to do that but when I did not meet just one requirement, I failed to 50-60 base grade instantly.
She is a hard worker who goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching. Jennifer used a unique grading method that focuses on student learning/improvement as opposed to a numeric grade. Lectures are also very detailed and guide you in the right direction for assignments. I hope more professors can follow her lead.
although she promised to give us our quiz marks back on time today was our exam and we still didnt have any quizzes back. It would be less bad if she never said she would give them back to us but all we've heard was excuse after excuse after excuse and empty promises that she would get things back to us on time
