Great teacher. Explains every subject in detail. She talks fast but sometimes clear.
Really knows what she is talking about... but does not teach us. She assigns things to be due and THEN teaches us about the subject AFTER she has graded. Puts down the MU PR program because we are a smaller school. Discourages us from asking questions... acts as if we should know the answer already.
She is a nice teacher, but expects way too much out of us. Your speech has to be extremely perfect or you will get a bad grade. I wouldn't advise taking her unless you are prepared for a lot of work.
public relations writing, HARD CLASS! she grades on a professional level, which at the time i hated, but once i got my final portfolio back, it was so worth it. do not be afraid to ask for her help, i wish i had. she knows what she is talking about, and expects a lot out of her students.
VERY difficult, but I love the class. As PR majors, she treats us like we are in a professional atmosphere and don't need our hands held. Honestly, we all need that; gives us less surprises in the field. Very good teacher! Encourages questions, always available! Don't be scared of her!
Great Teacher....However, there is a lot of work involved in this class. She is very helpful and wants her students to succeed in life. If you have any questions stop by her office hours and she will be there to help you.
This teacher is the worst. She gets on my nerves. She is so boring and corny. She is a nice person but she needs to reevaluate her teaching strategy.Assigns to much work at once. And needs a dress check, she always says how professional you have to look but never look to part!
So much work. All nighters. Do Overs!. BORING.But a nice lady if that means anything
East class but sometimes i think she expects a little much from a 100 level course. i did learn a lot about public speaking
easy class
Stay up all night doing papers. Then stay up and do the same papers a week later. This course is exhausting. She will always help you with anything, but I dont think she is that clear with her help. Thank god i dont ever have to do this again. Pr2 is the hardest comm course
lots of hw, given even when speeches are due. some times gave assignments and then "taught" material after u handed in assigment. Doesn't really teach, just restates every thing you read in book. Test are near impossible. they cover 4 chpts, and u must know everything, and memorize several lists of words b/c half is fill-in blank. LOTS OF WORK
A lot of homework. Boring also! If you have the choice, I definitely wouldn't go for Prof. Wood.
The class was hard but she was realy nice. i liked the class but had to work extreemly hard it wasnt alot of work for one semester it was just alot of work cramed into a few weeks. In the begining of the school year we had no work in the middle TONS of work at the end it died down. tests are hard
Dr. Wood knows what she is doing and talking about. She expects alot and the tests are difficult. Overall a really nice lady but way too much work for comm 100.
Dr. Wood's Comm 100 class started out fine! Then the work just kept comming and comming. I didn't think she explained things very clearly, I learned more from the book than from her. All in all this class was alright. If you want a challange take Dr. Wood!
Oh. Ma. Ga. This professor.... omg. ridiculous. it's a 100 level course and she treats it like its a 300 level course or even higher. she teaches things AFTER you hand in the corresponding assignments so you can be like OH MAN, i TOTALLY fudged up... oh, but dont fret, because you can pull yetanother all-nighter and RE-DO the assignment COMPLETELY
I had Dr. Wood at Towson University. Listen up, she may be a difficult teacher but you will thank yourself in the end, when you are in the real world. I still remember her stories. If you need help don't be stupid, ask! She will work with you if you don't get it. If you slack, then you will pay. When you need her help yrs. from now, she will get i
I hate this stupid ****, its a 100 level class. obviously she has nothing better to do than assign quiz's for every god damn class.

She was the worst proffessor i have ever had, shes a perfectionist and if you dont do EVERYTHING exactly like she says she will give u a poor grade. I did an outline according to the book one time and i got a 0, most teachers would notice that you tried and tell you how to do it right, she just gave me a 0, avoid Woody
Good professor who knows what shes talking about. There is a LOT of work involved in this class, but you will be glad in the end that you did it. She pushes you to your limit because she knows that you can do it. As long as you work hard in this class and read the textbook, youll be ok. And for god's sake, PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL!
Omg this class sucked! She was horrible! You couldn't understand her bc of her southern accent, and she spoke 100 miles a minute. She would also go off track allll the time! She gave way too much work for a 100 level class and a HARD quiz like everyday. Worst teacher ever! Good luck!
excellent professor who knows pr inside and out. she expects a lot from you, but if you're a good student you'll do very well. if you're a bad student, well, that's your own fault - expect to do poorly.
Takeif you like memorizing texts books cuss seriously thats what it will take to get an A. her tests were rediculous memorize lists of 10 words she failed the entire class on first outline yet she never lectured on how the outline should be. insists that students read the book.never actually lectures.Gave me same grade, comments on all 3speeches!!!
Outlines = extremely hard, most people fail. Also you get a quiz every single day. Hardest speech teacher from what I compared to my friends teachers
Great teacher! Really knows her stuff. If yoiu are willing to learn and work you butt off you will do good in this class. LISTEN to everything!!!! You really may miss something important. There is a short quiz every class and her final is cummulative. Over all this class was great. If your lazy DONT'T take this class. You will Fail!
This professor was ridiculously hard. I had her for speech class and you have a quiz at the start of every class and then 2 huge tests plus the final exam at the end of the year that basically require you to memorize the book. I thought this was uneccasry for a class on public speaking. She is also very unclear when it comes to how she wants outlin
She is a great teacher who knows her stuff. Quiz every class meeting, read the book and take notes. If you go to her she will not hesitate to help you. She is hard but you will learn something. Oh and you have to dress up or at least look casual for speeches.
She was a good teach, but she was harder than the other speech teachers.
if you want to fail take her! Be prepared to fail all the test even if you study it does not matter you fail!!! MEMORIZE THE TEXT BOok
This professor is hard. You have a quiz at the begining of every class on chapters in the book. You have to memorize deinitions, charts, tables and processes word for word in order to get credit. Projects are group and a huge campaign in the end. Very hard and requires alot of work and dedication.
Dr. Wood is a very judgemental person. If you have any opinion at all about the structure of life it is never good enough. She makes others feel like their work sucks!!I had to drop 1 of her classes or i would rop out of life! Very mean!
All you do is reittrate the text book. Nothing is ever good enough for Jennifer Wood however. She basically fails you on every outline and speech for no apparemt reason. Hard for no reason. Speech should be way easier.
Wood might be the worst professor I've had so far. All the tests and quizzes consisted of was completely reproducing definitions and lists from the book. I can't say I've actually learned and understood a single thing, just memorized it for the sake of regurgitating it onto a test. She doesn't do her job or help her students at all. AVOID!
She teaches you nothing in the class, everything depends on the book. To do well on a speech or outline, you have to go to her office hours at least twice before handing anything in! I am a Comm major, and her class seriously made me consider changing majors!
This class was the biggest waste of my time. It is all basically busy work and memorization. It did not teach me how to speak in public. Everything in this class is based on memorizing the text rather than learning how to speak and write speeches. AVOID!
Has a quiz every class. Tests are RIDICULOUS and we have more of them than actual speeches! Outlines are tough. Willing to help if needed. Her office has like 20 degrees hanging on the wall and she expects alot from her students. I got a B- and i worked extremely hard for that. If you can take a different professor, DO IT.
OHMYGOODGOLLYGOSH. Couldn't stand her. Quizzes are easy, just memorize the chapter headings & vocab. Tests are just bigger quizzes. SPEECHES ARE AWFUL. Outlines must be EXACTLY what you're planning to say, EXACTLY as she wants them to be or you fail.
I Should really hunt the person that wrote the comment below me for saying the tests are easy. Definitely NOT EASY. 14 quizzes and 3 exams. Isn't this a speech class you ask? Yep, there is a speech you give, but theres more exams. Totally unnecessary. Don't take this professor, take Elis instead! RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN!
worst class ever.. quizes every class and exams are hard. shes not even a good teacher.. she was also annoying. and had a weird staring problem. get out while u can. i did. thank the lord
Dr.Wood isn't a bad person, she really loves Public Relations and is good to talk to about recommendations for career options. But unless you have astounding photographic memory I'd say AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I had a strong interest in becoming a PR major but she killed that for me (more like utterly annihilated).
Dr. Wood is a perfectionist. Her teaching method is of little use and you need to return to her to understand submitted outlines way too much to get a decent grade.
Two words sum up this class: Memorize and Regurgitate. Fairly straightforward tests and quizzes; just know vocab and anything that comes in a list verbatum and you'll be fine. All you really have to worry about are the 2 major speeches. She's pretty easygoing and funny at times, but just be sure to follow her outline guidelines to a T.
Considering most of the stuff you learn is common sense by the time you get to college, this class shouldn't be so hard, but instead, she turns your common sense into vast lists and vocabulary that must be memorized for tests. Rather than knowing concepts, you remember words. She grades speeches real funky like, and kind of picks favorite students.
Very fun professor. Didn't learn too much since everything she teaches you is common sense. The exams are an easy B if you just go to class and look over any notes before the exam. Again more common sense on the exams. Her recitations are a bit harder. She takes the speeches more seriously than the lecture/exams and you can tell she knows her stuff
She is a very knowledgeable prof, and cares about her students. Although her grading is strict, i feel like I have gained something from her class. GO TO HER OFFICE HOURS!. she is very approachable.
Dr. Wood is very good at what she does. She expects hard work and will help you with whatever you need help with. She is very knowledgeable in the PR field and will push you to succeed. She is kind and approachable and is willing to help anyone who asks. One of my favorite professors and one of the best people i have ever have the pleasure of knowing
THIS CLASS IS INSANELY HARD. However, it is extremely helpful if you are a Public Relations focus. The class is demanding and involves an extreme amount of work. Some days she will praise you and tell your class how great you are, other days she will tell you that you are not trying hard enough.considering being a PR major? you'll know after this
She was extremely nice, and interested in all of her students. I and a few others in my class just had a very hard time understanding what she had to say. She's a rambler...
One of the hardest yet rewarding classes I've ever had. Very nice and funny woman, but she grades on a professional level, so she's a tough grader and can be quite critical. Difficult and stressful class, but when I got my final portfolio back, it was worth it. If you're serious about PR, you'll thank yourself later. She definitely prepares you.
Dr. Wood is a very nice woman and seems like a great person. Her teaching style is horrible and she rambles on about subjects unrelated to class. She rarely discusses content in the textbook. I would not recommend her.
This was by far one of the hardest classes I've taken at MU. It was really rewarding though because she makes you learn and use what you learn. She's not good at saying what she wants so be be prepared for crappy grades.
read the book her lectures do not help at all. lectures have nothing to with class just life.
Her lectures have nothing to do with anything you "learn". Her handwriting is illegible while she yells at you for not having "correct and clear marks". The most assignments in a course I've ever had in all 3 of my years here. She doesn't even collect 34 of them and doesn't care that she's wasting your library money. Pick a different professor.
She's a nice lady and knows what shes talking about but I've never been more lost in a course in my life. Due dates constantly change and her handwritten feedback is impossible to read.
This has been the most stressful classes I've taken so far. Although I'm sure she knows what she's talking about, the way she lectures makes me want to pull my hair out. Some days she says that the class is doing great and she's pleased, other days she yells at us and tells us how "unprofessional" we are. She's also a harsh grader. Don't take her.
Dr. Wood is not specific about what she wants and uses the discovery method, which means she wont explain what you have to do for assignments, you have to figure out how to do it on your own. She is a tough grader and also unpredictable. She is very passionate about PR and considers her students PR professionals.
Lectures are redundant and patronizing. Get ready to chant acronyms as a class daily. Her grading is irrational. Quiz answers are word for word from the text or you're wrong. I got B's and C's on response papers when I get A's in other classes, and the only things she writes is "clarify." You can't win, but at least she thinks she's a good teacher.
Things needed to succeed in Wood's class: -a photographic memory for quizzes and tests -a high tolerance of malarkey because that's what the class content is -the ability to suck up -mind-reading skills for assignments Have fun! * If you get bored during her lectures, count the number of times she says "does that make sense?" My high was 40.
This class was not an intro course but it was a GPA dropper. There is a quiz every class, 2 Exams AND a final, 3 papers, and 2 ridiculous outlines for your two main speeches that constitutes 50% of your grade. Lectures are insanely boring, I would recommend taking Speech with another professor if you don't want the insanely tedious workload.
She knows her PR stuff very well. However, if you are looking for actual beginner PR concepts, good luck . You have to read every chapter at least 4 times to understand it. Her lectures were just life lessons for 95% of the time. She frustrated me more than any other professor I had taken. If you are taking this for an elective don't take her.
Dr. Wood is great and if you want to be successful, you need to take her classes!!
Nice person, bad professor. Has a lot of energy but during lectures, she gets off topic VERY quick and it takes awhile for her to get back on topic. Read the book, but pay attention to the lectures, because she tests you on some of what she says in the lecture that isn't in the book.
Dr. Wood is a very exciting and enthusiastic prof. Shes energetic, which keeps the class going, but she can often fall off of track, or start to ramble making what she is lecturing hard to understand. She is motivational for you to do well, and is willing to help, but is a very strict grader. Also be prepared for a 10 question quiz every class.
This class was so painful. She lectured on and on but yet seemed to not say anything at all? She would tell me how great my speeches were but only give me Bs. Do not take this professor for a lower level comm class. You also had to give answers word for word from the text book in order to do well on quizzes. My least favorite college class ever.
Dr. Wood is a great professor- she is hilarious. However, her Fundamentals of Speech class was way harder than it needed to be. It really isn't even 'hard', it just comes with a lot of unnecessary work. My advice to you: take comm with a different professor to save yourself the time and energy.
Kind lady. Super bright, accomplished. There is a quiz on 1 or 2 chapters per week which ask for the most obscure info from the text; not definitions, not bulleted data, the most whyMemorizeThis parts of the text. I averaged 65% on them. The grading criteria is ambiguous for speeches and outlines. Exams are long but more fair than quizzes.
Dr. Wood is the hardest professor you will ever have to take in your Public Relations studies, but you will thank yourself later in your career. While she is tough, she is absolutely worth it. She will not hold your hand, even at a 100 level course. You're now in higher education, so you should act like it and your work should reflect it.
Dr. Wood seems like a very nice person, but is not very organized and clear. Majority of the quizzes require the exact answer she wants, ans while you may have the right term if it is not the way she wants it written out you lose points making tests annoying and difficult even for an online class. There is also no review for quizzes.
She was not a good professor. She is not clear in what she wants for your speeches, and she tells you what she wanted all along after you complete the assignment, which was not helpful.
Dr. Wood is such a blast in class! She really makes an effort to connect to her students. She's also incredibly enthusiastic which makes the class fun! She is a pretty tough grader and makes you work, but the work put in is worth it.
Overly challenging class... fun, but she has a fatal flaw. DO NOT TAKE!! It's not worth the honors credits. She is a BRUTAL grader and gives minimal feedback. She slaps arbitrary subjective grades on speeches. Genuinely made me worse at public speaking and destroyed my speaking confidence. Every speech is cookie cutter... useless, stressful class.
Each assignment in this class counts for a large portion of your grade- including the mid-term, final, two major speeches, and group projects. When reading the textbook, make sure you memorize every word if you want to pass the mid-term and final. Don't forget to also pay attention even when she goes on hour-long tangents about her successful life.
As a person, she's hilarious and sweet. Definitely grades way tougher than required for a 100 level course. I always get A's and B's, yet for this class, even though I took good notes / studied the info, I still got a 75 on the midterm, and a 73 on my persuasive speech that I put a lot of work into. And most students in my class got C's on it too.
Her favorite thing to do was tell the class what was needed after the assignment was turned in. She never gave us a correct example to base our work off of, we had to "find their mistakes." She makes you dress up for your speeches and is disorganized. When she lectures she is distracted and assigns way to much reading for a 100 level class.
I have no idea how she won a teaching award. She openly criticizes and compares students in class after and even DURING speeches. Worst environment to learn how to give a speech. She doesn't give assignment guidelines and then gives you C's for not reading her mind. Ironically, she's late to class pretty often but takes points off if you are.
I literally got points taken off on a quiz because I elaborated. I got docked points for being MORE specific. Ridiculous. And also got a point off because, for an answer, I put the singular form of a word (AS WAS IN THE TEXTBOOK) and she had set the correct answer as the plural form. I didn't get that point back either. Absolutely horrendous.
While the class wasn't difficult, Professor Wood failed to properly educate her class. Each week, she would present a slideshow for each chapter, but then she would leave the students to take their own notes through the textbook. You basically teach yourself, and even though I found the content was easy, I feel as though Wood could have done better
I read the reviews of Dr. Wood and was nervous but I didn't believe the reviews at first. I wish I listened. Dr. Wood is an intelligent woman but is an extremely tough grader, has lengthy and sky-high expectations, and often gives unclear and irrelevant feedback. If professor bias was approved to be mentioned, I would mention that too.
Quizzes are graded by the computer, so you must have the exact work. The papers are long and tedious. Everything you learn is from the textbook, which isn't a terrible read.
unfair & causes drama
Dr. Wood is really smart. However, she does make students suffer for her mistakes. Her syllabus didn't give room for all the material so instead of 1 test every Tuesday & Thursday - she changed it to 2 tests + 2 discussion posts every Tuesday & Thursday. The tests are online and some are fill-in so you have to be ultra exact or you're screwed.
Dr. Wood is a decent professor. However, you read straight from the textbook, write a discussion post, and take a quiz. That is the entire class. Wish there was some actual learning.
Really not a good prof for on hands learners, not great class difficult to understand and hard grading
Wood is genuinely a great professor. She very clearly has experience with comm and PR. This class is nerve-wracking because of the number of speeches you have to give but she makes it easy and never criticizes you for being nervous. A lot of reading but it'll help you with the speeches so it's worth it. She is one of the harder profs for Comm101
Dr. Wood seems to be a great professor for in-person learning. She does not respond well to E-mails (which can be frustrating for an online class) and did not incorporate more than one learning style. Gives thorough feedback for grades. Not a difficult class, just tedious and stressful. Take her if you are ready for loads of reading and quizzes.
Had to drop her class because all she did was talk and make non comical jokes. She didn't even prepare us for our first speech/help us feel less anxious.
I do not like this class at all. The class is an entry level course that is supposed to be simple, but the teacher treats the class as if its the highest level comm class you can take. The answers for the quizzes do not line up at all with what is in the textbook. If you're confused about something, good luck figuring it out. Avoid her if possible.
Jennifer does not answer emails, she does no grading, it's all online quizzes, her lectures are just her life story, and she brags about how no one passes her class. She claims she is one of the top PR people, but she's teaching in the middle of nowhere. Don't bother asking her for help, she won't help you. she does not care about her students.
Worst professor I have ever had. She does not respond to emails, you teach yourself everything by reading the textbook so coming to class is pointless, and she is very rude. She does not provide any rubrics or guidelines for any projects. AVOID!
COMM 100 is possibly one of the easiest gen ed to take at college, but unfortunately Dr. Wood treats it as a 300-400 level course. Shes a tough/slow grader and a horrible communicator. You will be quizzed on chapters before going over the material in class. Be prepared for stale lectures and long tedious assignments. AVOID her COMM 100 at all cost!
Dr. Wood is an amazing person but a very questionable professor. The workload given was very unreasonable and I found myself finding ways around doing all the work required from her. Expect a discussion every week and very boring lectures. I recommend taking notes during lectures because that information is nice to use on the big tests.
Avoid Dr. Wood for your public relations courses if you have to take them. The majority of the course is okay, you take a 45-minute quiz every week online. Towards the end was an awful project that we were hardly given any instruction. Even though my group worked really hard to meet requirements she graded us so harshly.
I have taken many of Dr. Wood's class (three now),avoid her class at all costs especially if you're not majoring in Public Relations. She acts as if she is above her students. This class does not give you much opportunity to do well outside of the mid term and final, which is cumulative. The tests are very difficult, take good notes and STUDY!
Dr. Wood is a good professor and clearly knows her stuff. She is TOUGH and she does expect a lot, do not expect to slack off if you take one of her courses. Your grade is really based on your work. I highly recommend taking Organizational Communication as it is quite interesting.
Nightmare. Very unclear with directions and expects you to give the most effort for a Speech class. Textbook quizzes where the book could have 20 different terms and she will quiz on 5. Do not take this class if you get assigned her. While it is doable, it was a nightmare, many people dropped.
She does not post the PowerPoint slides if nobody answers the question she asks about the chapter she will start giving quizzes for every chapter. For assignments, their is no instructions for how to format a paper for her. If you have to leave 20 minutes early. oops that partially absent from a 1hour and 15-minute class.
I am editing this review that I gave Dr. Wood because I feel that as I have gotten to know her, she is a good professor. She is knowledgeable in her field and prepares you for your career. She does care about her students and she makes some good jokes. She is a tough grader, but for good reason. She seem relaxed in this class. I would take again!
I hate her. If you have her, I recommend trying to switch professors. Her presence alone is nerve racking. She forces us to remember material from previous lectures and if we do not, she makes us feel like we have failed her, and have not done our necessary studying outside of the classroom. I recommend a different professor.
Professor Wood is a very enthusiastic teacher which makes lecture go by very quickly! However, she is a very tough grader that assigns a lot of work that comes right from the book. I had to work extremely hard to receive the grade I did. Be ready to dedicate 6 hours a week to your work and 24+ hours to your major speeches to receive a B and beyond.
Despite stressing the importance of being a good communicator, Dr. Wood is the worst communicator I have ever dealt with. She doesn't give a rubric for speeches and assignments yet expects you to somehow guess at what she wants. Her feedback on major speeches is illegible, and she doesn't give it back until the day of the next speech. Never again.
I 100% do not recommend taking Dr. Wood for COMM100. She never really taught anything and only had you read 30 pages chapters from the textbook. You wouldn't know how to properly do your next speech until a week or two before you were to give it, but expected you to start it much earlier and have a lot of time to work on it.
This class has caused serious decline in my mental health. Quizzes every class, literally expects you to read a chapter of the textbook for every day you have her for homework. The tiniest mistake takes a solid chunk off your grade, but she gives limited instruction. Lectures are boring and she expects you to be amazing at speech after first one.
You can't miss more than 1 class per her syllabus. A girl in my class was failed for having surgery. She won't let you make up the quiz for the class you missed. She grades harshly and is snarky/rude in her minimal feedback. She will accuse the entire class of cheating on a semi-regular basis but then act like she's our friend outside of class.
literally just don't. do anything to work around her.
Professor uses the words “Dynamics” and “So forth” WAY TO MUCH. Professor expects you to know everything and is condescending in feedback. 100% do not take speech with her. Recommend class with Irwin.
Absolutely Awful
I took this class last spring, so here's my advice from roughly six months later: Don't do it. Prof expects you to work like "young professionals" instead of students and gives hardly any room to actually learn because she expects you to already know everything. I had actual nightmares about this class while taking it, and you probably will, too.
i would not pick her again because in the beginning i thought she was nice but now i see her more as a judgmental person who wears a fake smile and someone who has a short temper when it comes to students asking questions.
Professor Wood's COMM100 class is tough, with a lot of work and tricky grading. But the lectures are engaging, and Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, it's a challenging course, but manageable with dedication.
I have her for Comm 100 and she is possibly the worst professor I have ever had, she is rude, expects way to much for a 100 level course that is mandatory and always goes over class time and then snaps at you for packing up. She will change assignment dates and email you the night before saying something is due so you have no time to prepare.
Awful. Rude and judgmental for no reason. Tough grader, will change due dates last minute.
She told the class last minute about something she wanted us to have prepared. I along with 10 other people didn't have it done because of this and we received zeros. She has very unrealistic expectations to the point where nobody could fit what she wanted into a 3-5 minute speech. Almost everyone went over the time limit. She is god awful.
This is a class we have once per week, yet the syllabus says that "emailing is not considered communication". This is, as you can imagine, irritating on a half-online class. The speeches are a large part of the course, so I HIGHLY recommend doing all the homework/assignments. Extra credit is not given. Check your email.
Dr. Wood gives helpful and constructive feedback, which is appreciated by students. However, the handwriting on written comments is often difficult to read, which can make it hard to fully understand the feedback.
Dr. Wood was extremely complicated and gave lengthy instructions on her assignments (90% of the time they didn't even make sense) She also was very unrealistic at times and expected the class to know what she wanted without even telling us what to do.
After reading these comments,I feel compelled to rate Dr. Wood nearly 15 years later. Comments about being demanding, having high expectations, and expecting students to behave like young professionals are 100% true. What do you expect? Your future boss and you will be thankful you had these experiences once you leave the protection of university.
Had her for an online class and it was very labor intensive. Far more work than I felt was necessary, but also just a very disorganized prof. Her D2L was confusing and she was not good at responding to communication. Her feedback was always filled with grammatical errors too that made it difficult to understand.
For a communications professor she was a terrible communicator. She was ridiculously strict with formatting things, and was very unclear on what she wanted. She also had a way of insulting our intelligence during her lectures. Public speaking is bad enough and she did not help to alleviate anyone's fears.
Do not take any class associated with this teacher. She makes it IMPOSSIBLE to succeed and improve in the class. She takes points off on anything and everything even things that were not clearly listed as requirements.
Dr. Wood is intense, but she is very passionate about teaching students to become better communicators. No, she will not ease your public speaking anxiety. She also does not answer emails. Read your textbook!!! If you're struggling, go to her office hours and talk to her--I swear she's a sweetie deep down.
Dr. Wood has too much ego to be an educator. If you want to do well in her class, stroke her ego and insult your own intelligence - ask her questions that let her feel good about knowing convoluted material. She does not make any of her material accessible. Notes from lecture and textbook are vital. Play the ego game on her behalf.
These reviews are a bit harsh; it genuinely was not the worst class. Definitely a heavier workload than it should be, but it does not mean it was impossible.
