This class is pretty strange, I really recommend not taking it with Dr. Archibald if you can. She is condescending to students and belittles them in lecture. Tests are often over material not covered in lecture. Read the book if you really want to do well.
She is an incredibly boring & confusing lecturer. I would recommend not going to her office hours; I rarely found her helpful, and she was usually condescending. Definitely do the reading before the lectures, and ask the TAs if you have any questions. I thought the class was pretty easy, but I know many people struggled with it
I enjoyed her lectures. She was a little bit fast paced but lectures are recorded so you can look back.
I am a pre med junior and this was my 2nd biol class and I loved the topics of this class but she made the lectures super dry and boring. She did not really care about the students. I read alot and did not miss a single day of class and got a B because the multiple choice section was super confusing and its not A-E its A-L.
After switching to online because of COVID-19 it became even more clear how little she really wants to put into her teaching. This has been a stressful time for everyone and she is making the course more difficult than it was prior to the stay at home order. Even her emails about making it easier pretty much say do it yourself.
I wish I would not have taken her class. It is extremely difficult to keep up and the exams are really hard. I can study for days and still not do well. I do not usually struggle with biology, but this is my lowest grade ever. Not to mention the lectures are boring and she isn't exactly eager to help you with anything.
Excellent teacher with a passion for learning, but I she gives too much busywork. The work is intended to help your learning, but when juggling other classes (most of which are more difficult) it's hard to prioritize her many assignments. Overall though, I respect her, as she truly cares about what and who she teaches.
Did not care about helping students, didnt give any grade projections until a few days before the final. Refused to open assignments if you had documented technical difficulties. Had so many different kinds of homework it was hard to keep track. Really boring material. Tests are impossible.
Horrible professor. Obviously did not care about the well-being and grade statuses of the students in her class. Lots of homework, not creating, and reading is needed for this class because her lectures are useless. Usually, classes follow the books assigned, however her lectures were what she wanted to teach, rather than what needed to be taught.
Overall I thought this class was fine. I took it for my major, and parts of the class were interesting. There's not too much homework, but you have to read a lot of extra material. The tests were fine, usually I studied a reasonable amount and did decent on all of the exams. She communicates very well and sends out important reminders often.
Her exams were manageable before we switched online, but after we switched her exams became nearly impossible. Lecture was mandatory because we had group worksheets every class. She had us doing homework from like 3 diff websites so it was hard to keep track of what was due when (after moving online). Wouldn't recommend taking her class.
Over the semester, she gave loads upon loads of information in both lecture and her online modules which prove to be necessary as you become accustomed to the specificity found in test questions. If you want an A, just do everything youre told and show up to class ready to work with your team its not very enjoyable, but still manageable enough.
Professor Archibald's class was not enjoyable. The lectures were extremely boring and confusing to follow, which is a shame since the exams seem to revolve around those lectures. On top of that, for some reason she feels the need to not post her slides for review after class (the slides are terribly formatted too). She means well, but wouldn't reco
With covid, this was forced to be an online class. Lots of us think its harder to manage our time with everything online but Dr. Archibald took our advice and extended 5pm deadlines to 12 and gave us more time to take our online exams. It's a pretty tough class but she shows that she is there to accommodate for the students.
It's ridiculous. She doesn't teach the class at all, giving us "modules" and tells us to go at it. It's not structured and she expects us to work 15+ hours in this class. She's so hands off it feels like there is no connection and that you can't go to her. If you do go to her, she is snotty and condescending. Do not take this class. Frustrating.
AWFUL CLASS AND PROFESSOR! Do not take this class with Archibald. She is absolutely terrible and does not help in any way shape or form. The only learning each week is 25 page word documents with all the info were supposed to know. And the quizzes are timed and go way to fast its impossible to pass her quizzes. She wants the students to fail.
Terribly structured class. No lecture videos. Have to read the textbook chapters and through a module. Test questions are very poorly worded. Takes pride in a low class average on scores.
Extremely disorganized. Does not seem to care. Lecture videos from past semesters that contain different information, which she tells us to ignore. Doesn't bother making new content, some lectures are from random different professors, weekly quizzes that replace exams are extremely disorganized and poorly worded. Timed essay questions graded harshl
I'm not going to sugar coat it here. Archibald seems like a wonderful person, she is passionate in organismal biology and is a competent professor. But the layout of the online class is the perfect example of how to not set up online classes. Making the quiz due by Tuesday while at the same time needing to read to understand a discussion post? Why.
I took Dr. Archibald's class in Spring of 2020. The first half of my class was all in person with her, and she was good at teaching but did not care about the students. My group asked for help in class one time and she told us "that's too bad." Online, her class became extremely confusing and she was no longer present. Only 25 page modules.
Professor handled this course terribly, especially considering the current state of college student mental health and motivation. PDF lessons with YouTube/lecture videos scattered throughout were not engaging, weekly quizzes due the same day as discussion posts, placed at various places in the lessons, was incredibly stressful.
I had to take this class online due to covid and it was a nightmare. She cared more about people who were cheating than actually teaching the class. We were allowed to use our notes for the quizzes but we were supposed to reword our notes. People would get in trouble if they didn't do this. Quizzes were not clear and very hard. DO NOT TAKE!
Grades are heavily based off quizzes, so if you aren't great at taking quizzes your grade will probably suffer. Worksheets and discussions were easy points. Lab section was okay. Again the quizzes will get you. I didn't read the textbook once, just focused on the modules she gave and did fine. Don't get lost in the extra stuff they give you!
Long module packets as your weekly lessons--both unorganized and confusing to read, and random videos from YouTube instead of normal lecture videos from the prof. Then, a very hard quiz every week over the confusing material. More concerned about her students CHEATING than her teaching ability. What a waste of what could have been a good/fun class.
I think this is one of the worst classes I've ever taken. The class was horrible being completely online. The whole course consisted of reading out of the textbook and completed ridiculously long modules that didn't teach anything, The entire semester I basically taught myself. Completely stressful and chaotic. It was hard to learn any material.
Professor creates artificial difficultyshe is a grade deflater. Every aspect of the course is designed to maintain a C class average and limit opportunities for success. Hostile course design. Professor does not seek to better her discipline by training future peers.
I threw up during an exam because of my migraine which i had documented previously with the AAAC and I let her know this exam severely affected my grade. She said there was nothing she could do. Shes horrific at teaching and its an extremely boring class.
My only class I didn't get an A in. No help to further understand the material. Quizzes are nothing like module. good luck....
Dr. Archibald is a great professor! This was by far my favorite online class I have taken. Im not great with quizzes, but I found the quizzes in this class to be pretty easy as long as I went all the way through the module and paid attention in class. Plus, Dr. Archibald gave everyone credit on quiz questions that were difficult.
The way this class was set up during covid was hard to keep up with. The material was designed to be self taught over the course of the weekend each week. On top of that, students were expected to do group work, graded clicker question, and quizzes each week. The quizzes did not reflect the material well either making this class difficult.
She is terrible, one of the worst professors I've ever had. She makes weekly quizzes 47% of the grade and there 20 min timed. There extremely hard questions and she does everything to make them extremely hard to understand and tries to trick you into picking the wrong answer. SHE SETS EVERYONE UP FOR FAILURE IN THIS CLASS
The professor makes it difficult very to succeed. She purposefully creates "tricky" questions "to make you think," is quite scattered, never goes into detail and doesn't thoroughly explain or connect concepts. Don't expect to learn much from lecture, each week you have a 17-27 page module + book reading to teach to and understand yourself.
This professor does NOT lecture. You teach yourself through weekly 10-20 page word docs. The class is only one day a week and is iClicker questions and a groupwork assignment. There are no exams in this class except the midterm & final. All other assignments are worth low points, so if you don't do well on the only 2 exams then you're screwed.
She takes pride in watching people fail and does not take student feedback seriously and continues the same way of teaching. She only tests you and tries to trick you with most of her questions. She makes this course boring and uneducational when this could be a really fun course. She likes to see us fail and doesnt try to make it any better.
This class is extremely boring. You basically teach yourself, which does spare you from ONE class in person. The quizzes are cumulative and pretty hard and confusing. She doesn't motivate you to do well and her class makes you want to fall asleep. Overall, it's hard, boring, and I recommend a different professor or to even refrain from the class.
You have to teach yourself everything. All of her quiz and worksheet questions are worded very confusing and expects you to know everything even though she does not teach you the material you are expected to learn everything from the textbook and weekly modules.
-Mandatory lectures: in-class iClickers & assignments worth 12% of grade -Timed weekly quizzes: worth nearly 50% of grade, questions VERY unclear/vague -Long "module" pdfs often contain lecture videos recorded years ago Prof. seems nice enough and seems to want us to succeed, but the current course format just does not work in its current state
You only go to the in-person lecture once a week. She doesn't explain very well and expects us to teach ourselves with a 20ish pages worth module that doesn't simplify any explanation. The weekly quizzes will drag your grade down real fast if you do bad and extra credit is usually just 1 point which doesn't help too much.
This is my first response on rate my professor, but honestly this professor was to terrible I had to post something. Treat this class like an independent study. You will probably learn nothing in lecture. You are expected to learn everything in 20+ page modules every week. She honestly cares more about you cheating than learning.
I managed to get a B in this class, but it was rather difficult and the class could have been presented in a much easier way.
She sets you up for failure in this class. You teach yourself everything in 20+ page modules with weekly quizzes worth almost 50% of your grade. Everything is designed to have extremely confusing, "trick" questions for both quizzes and the iClicker questions in class that are graded for accuracy and worth 12% of grade. Worst class I've ever taken.
The worst part of this class is that it is needlessly difficult. The shortly timed weekly quizzes that have ambiguously worded questions don't reinforce learning but rather increase stress since the quizzes are weighed just below half of your grade. The 20-page modules are a nightmare to go through. I would not take this class again.
Sets you up for failure. Ridiculously worded/exceedingly difficult quizzes, contradicts herself constantly, 20 pages of complete nonsense each week, makes it impossible to get any sort of grade compensation for technical/general issues, etc. I'm better off completely ignoring her and using my prior knowledge instead. Don't take this class.
I enjoyed taking Dr. Archibald's class and didn't find it to be difficult. Her class structure and lectures are very planned and organized, making it easy to succeed. This is a great 100-level bio class with no tricks that encourages critical thinking. Just pay attention to the module and participate in class.
Worst professor I've ever had. Her questions on quizzes/tests can be confusing and be intentionally "trick" questions. The modules she does are too long, and often have to search for the useful videos as most of them provide little value. We have a cheat sheet for quizzes but expects us to not put anything on our cheat sheet FROM the module.
The most difficult part of this class is adjusting to the "flipped" learning style. It is ESSENTIAL that you pace yourself on the modules and do them throughout the week otherwise you will hate this class. Don't read the text book just focus on the modules. If you can answer the chapter learning goals you'll do well on exams. GO TO SI/TA SESSIONS.
Words her questions for you to fail
Professor Archibald is a tough but manageable professor for 152. It is important to do good on quizzes as they are worth more total than the midterms. The quiz questions are often worded in a way to trick you and the material itself is not the easiest. However, being said, if you apply yourself you can succeed in her class.
Was always accusing people of cheating during the COVID year. She didn't supply lectures when I took her class, had to read the textbook for hours to learn the material. Have not met her personally, but have only heard bad things.
The class is set up to be more difficult than it should be. The main problem was the tricky wording on the quizzes. She seemed like she cares about student success but the design of the class is questionable.
You need to do all the modules to understand what happens in class because it is a reverse classroom. Yet, for her quizzes, she words everything so weirdly to "have you think about the concepts", yet they are just traps. Also meeting with her, she doesn't offer you help, she just kind of tells you what she expects and wants, not what you need.
Okay, so this is probably the worst teacher you'll ever have to deal with at KU, plain and simple. I would say this class is a test of how well you know English more than biology, her questions are a trap. She doesn't care about the students at all. Her only goal is to make her class seem harder than it really is.
She never goes over the worksheets done before class, and you're almost never prepared for the exams because there is no study guide or previous exams provided. There's no way to fully prepare yourself for the exams because some questions are just so specific and there's too much information across the modules to study for.
No study guides so there is never any way to prepare fully for tests. Rarely goes over anything important in lectures that were on the quizzes or worksheets.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had. The exams are so hard, and there is no clear cut study guide. She does have quizzes that do help boost your grade, get ready to learn a lot of content with no clear guide on what to study for exams, exams are 32 MC and 4 short answer. Each exam is cumulative besides the first exam. ARCHIBALD IS TERRIBLE!
Hybrid class so all of the learning is done before class. Lecture is used to repeat information said in the online homework. Pointless 75 minutes, the TA's are the only people that teach and explain concepts in this class. Tests are always trick questions and purposely worded to confuse people. Minuscule opportunities for extra credit in this class
Dr. Jenny Archibald is a nice person, but horrible teacher. She does not discuss everything on her modules in her once a week lecture, her modules take almost 4 hours to go through the information, she doesn't provide study guides for her extensive exams, and her questions purposefully trick you. I found myself very frustrated by her class.
I made a RMP account just to rate this class. This is the bio major weed out class. The structure of this class is horrid; it's a flipped classroom for no reason, and it's designed for students to suffer to get an A. Yes, she offers extra credit, but the amount you get for the work required is ridiculous. Few points in the gradebook too. Good luck.
I think that Dr.Archibald is an expert in her field, but that does not mean she is good at teaching. On the frist day of class she said that she uses a flipped classroom in order to fit in more students. That is not something to tell your students. It is obvius she does not care about her students educations and just wants her class too be hard.
She is not a good professor by any means. The TA sessions, and the SI sessions are not helpful. If you have to take this class I recommend getting outside help and ensuring that you are understanding everything. She does not word her assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. clear or in detail. Good luck if you ever have to take this class...
She does not care about the grade you receive. She is going to give you almost nothing but trick questions and lectures are mandatory. Close to nothing is taught in class, so get ready to teach yourself the material yourself.
Do not be scared by all of the negative reviews on here - BIOL152 with Archibald is not as awful as everyone on here makes it out to be. Make sure to actually go through the modules completely before lecture, pay attention/participate during lecture, and attend TA sessions, you will do just fine in this course.
Flipped classroom (which I liked, great for going at your own pace with notes). TAKE GOOD NOTES. Great lecture videos, and class time is used well to expand upon them and practice with concepts. Group section on exams is a nice chance to try and earn points back, but exams are cumulative and there's not much guidance on what to focus on studying.
Expect to spend A LOT of outside time on this class. The lectures are quite pointless and are only important to go to in order to get attendance points and group work points. Most of them are just spent reviewing everything you learned on your own before class. Questions are worded to trick you. She is not clear on what to study for tests, at all.
i never wore my seatbelt while driving to school bc i wanted to die before making it to this class
Hybrid classes are not fun.
While this is a flipped class it can be a bit difficult to prepare for, but you can make it easier -Create some sort of group chat and spread it around the entire class - to prepare for the test, I recommend looking at the video module and copying it down word for word as the video is running.
worse teacher ever she doesn't care about the students at all.
Quizzes and tests are written in the most unclear language possible, on top of making test grades inclusive of group exams. Participation is required via iClicker but if you don't get them right then you still do not get any points. Flipped format course so you do 95% of the teaching yourself from 8-10 pdfs filled with videos 3-15min made in 2020.
Every test/quiz question was designed to trick you. Hybrid class that shouldn't be hybrid and every lecture isn't spent lecturing it is iClicker and group work. Actually worst class I've ever taken. It is basically a teach yourself class about PLANT BIOLOGY. would not recommend. try to get into honors (with her husband) he gives out A's.
This class is flipped, and the actual class time is useless, but group work is important so you have to go. The worst part of being in class is that you can't listen to her talk on 3x speed like you can with the lecture videos. Every iclicker and test question she writes is worded in the most confusing way possible, like she's trying to trick you.
I would never take this teacher pick someone else and you will thank me later. She is the worst teacher I have ever had in my whole life. She tricks you and her test are very hard and the test are cumulative. Sometimes the TA's in the class don't even know the answer to her questions.
I actually hate Jenny so much! I would not recommend her to any student ever. I recommend that you take the class with her husband BIOL 153. The flipped classroom actually make me want to die. She is a tricky person. She changes words up to make it impossible to understand what you are trying to learn. Everything is cumulative so good luck!
Gives absolutely zero f about students and grades like satan himself. No review packets for tests. No extra credit. Oh wait correction. EXTRA CREDIT IS DILUTED TO WORTH NOTHING. Trick questions causing you to lose lots of points. Worst teacher in college. She should resign in disgrace.
The class is flipped schedule, but she reviews the information inside class as well. She offers up to 7 points of extra credit, but her tests are set up to get points back as you redo the test with a group. She also allows notecards on tests. Overall the class is fairly easy as long as you learn the information outside of class as well.
I loved having professor Archibald! She made her expectations very clear and taught me a lot. As long as you do the homework and show up to lecture, it is very a very easy class. I definitely recommend!
Professor Archibald is a wonderful professor who lets you know actually what you need to know for the course and how she will grade. However, YOU HAVE TO DO THE HOMEWORK. It's not hard as long as you do the modules and go to class. Lots of extra credit and opportunities to meet with her or the TAs.
I did not like Dr. Archibald. She loves to trick you on exams. The exams will make or break your grade and there is no real way to study for them. You are allowed notecards which can be helpful, but not completely. Extra credit amounts to a total of 1% of the grade. It truly feels like she does not care about the successfulness of her students.
Tricking students when assessing them with wording and confusing questioning is absolutely unethical. Students are here to learn and all that is being taught is that this professor is power hungry and wants students to feel inept. Her TA doesn't know what she means by questions and is unable to help. The professor shows little empathy for students
I am extremely disappointed with the set-up of this class and the lack of support I feel. As a 100-level class, the difficulty is way beyond what it should be, test questions are very tricky and worded badly, you learn all of the content by yourself, and tests are 80% individual and 20% group. My best advice is to pick a different professor.
This class is genuinely the worst class I have ever taken. The workload is insane. You can spend hours studying, and still be completely lost.On top of that, there are so many trick questions. If it isn't a trick question, it's a question over a specific, small topic mentioned once. If you can avoid taking this class, please do.
She does everything she can to prepare you for exams. She even provides detailed explanations under every quiz, worksheet, and groupwork question. Not only that but she is a great communicator and she genuinely cares for success for her students. She even provides much extra credit. The exams can get difficult but biology itself is just tough.
This class was difficult not because of content but because she makes it difficult. In class we had iClickers, and we didn't get adequate time to read the questions much less think about our answers and select one. There is very little room for mistakes. There's a weekly quiz with 3 attempts, but they barely impact your grade. Very little EC.
She honestly made me consider switching schools just so I could take BIOL 152 with a different professor.
I used to love biology, and this professor was so awful it made me switch majors.
This professor would rather spend her time wording the questions to be as confusing as humanly possible, than teach. I legitimately hated taking this class, this professor is not doing her job properly. The teacher only lectures once a week. Worst of all, legitimately no proper study guides were given in a class which is so insanely test heavy.
She's very nice but doesn't do a lot of teaching. Flipped classroom style.
She doesn't teach very well. A lot of the questions on tests and quizzes are very complexly worded. Made me hate biology as a bio major. She's nice but just repeats things from the modules instead of teaching and answering questions. Told me that non-disjunction (in meiosis) is not real and does not happen.
The flipped format can be difficult but the modules she put together were really comprehensive while still being understandable, and if you read her questions carefully it's easy to figure out what she's asking. I think some people are put off because her affect is a bit flat, but I don't think it's fair to judge her on that.
I think the class was decent and I did enjoy the lectures. However, the in-class participation was a bit much and team collaboration was not always successful. This class wasn't too hard but there were a LOT of terms to memorize, and a lot of chapters covered each test.
I love biology, and this class made me start to hate it. All exams are cumulative, with no study guides, no real study material, and lots of information, and it's all crammed into a flipped-style classroom, which only adds to the stress. Lectures are pointless except for the group work, questions worded difficult for no reason, overall 2/10 class.
There is a module to do every week and they typically took me a few hours to complete. In class we'd go over the material in the module which sometime felt repetitive, but also would clear up difficult concepts. However, it also felt like she was throwing so many topics at us each lecture and could be confusing.
Don't take this class.
I was absolutely terrified to have Dr. Archibald as a freshman first semester because of how terrible the reviews are on here. To my surprise, she has been nothing but kind to me, offering multiple extensions, and really does not stand out as being difficult in any way. The only thing is that she isn't the most engaging; but she's a good professor!
terrible teacher and not helpful. modules are long and dreadful and what is discussed in class has nothing to do with any of it. exams are cumulative and very hard. doesnt read the room when it comes to confused students. doesnt see the issue when the class average is a 65%.
don't take this class if you want to remain sane
Class isnt that bad. Attendance is mandatory (iclickers and groupwork). Get close with you groupmates, they help alot! Go to plus session they will save you. Tests are cumulative - yes EVERY test is cumulative. Lectures are boring, notes take forever. Just work hard and you'll pass with a high grade.
The reviews on here are generally very intense, likely because this class was a few people's first B's and it has a flipped structure. It's a class that is genuinely not that bad if you're willing to put in the effort and rarely skip class. There is a textbook and plenty of available resources - you just need to use them.
horrible teacher
SO BORING OMG IM IN THE CLASS RIGHT NOW
SO BORING IM IN THE CLASS RIGHT NOW PLEASE HELP ME OH MY GOSH
I hate this class it was so unhelpful and the modules didnt do jack. She also didnt really explain things well and my biggest issue was how reliant she is on iclicker. LIKE SOME OF US DONT HAVE INTRENET AND CANT USE IT AND THEN WERE PUNISHED FOR HAVING POINTS TAKEN OFF LIKE ITS NOT MY FAULT THIS SCHOOLS WIFI IS DOOKIE AND MY GRADE IS AFFECTED.
This class was really fun and rewarding and Dr. Archibald did a great job teaching about plant systematics and made me much more interested in the subject. It wasn't an easy class, but she was very kind and her quizzes were reasonable. Highly recommend BIOL418 if you want to learn about a challenging subject from a super knowledgable professor.
No lecture slideshow except for course gallery. I despise reverse lecture style.
Honestly everyone is being dramatic. The class really isn't that hard. I didn't even pay attention to the lectures and just studied the PLUS packets and got a high A. Literally just show up for class and do the groupworks and do the extra credit and you'll get an A. She's actually nice. Wanted to give her 5 bc people are too mean.
Prof. Archibald is represented terribly on this rate my professor. It was an easy class; all you have to do is show up and participate/complete the group work assignments, and you will get an A. She also has extra credit available if you are low on points, your lowest exam grade will be worth only half of the points (dropped from final grade.)
Dr. Archibald is such a great teacher. I don't get the hate, genuinely not as bad as everyone says. She lets you use a note card on exams and is so nice and understanding.
I think all of these reviews are just dramatic. Dr. Archibald may be boring, but she is not a bad professor. Just go to the PLUS sessions and study the packet they provide. My biggest advice is to work hard at the beginning of the semester, go to sessions and grasp the info. If you do well on the 1st exam, you're set up for the rest of the course.
Y'all be fr. I got a 98% in this class and it wasn't that hard. I just studied the plus packets, showed up to class, and did the ec. It's not that bad.
This was the worst class I've ever taken in my life. Surprised I made it out alive.
Uses trick questions and strange phrasing on exams, expecting students to decipher them. TA's tried to help and were often wrong because of how confusing she was. Feels like she wants students to fail. Always excelled in higher level biology prior to taking this course. (Keep in mind I took this years ago, hopefully she has fixed things).
Many of her iClicker and exam questions try to trick you with odd phrasing, but as long as you keep that in mind this is an otherwise very easy biology class. People like to be dramatic how bad it is but really it's a matter of showing up and studying effectively.
I cannot believe this. I need to study for modules BEFORE and AFTER every class, and class is FLIPPED COURSE?????? She is just yapping at class, and giving unnecessary informations. Iclickers terrible. Modules terrible. She just destroyed my 4.0 GPA. Even tho I had genetics and bicohemistry before her. This is just a nightmare.
The worst class I've ever taken.
Soft-spoken, but passionate about biology. She's sweet and cares.
Archibald was a good professor and was willing to answer questions. The TA's I had and their sessions were also helpful and you can get extra credit just by going. In my opinion, as long as you take good module notes you will do good in the class. Some of the test questions can be worded weirdly, but a lot of the stuff appears on quizzes beforehand
Not personable at all. Tests are weighted very heavy and she uses wording on the tests that you will have never seen before. She purposely tries to trick you on these tests.
Archibald is easily one of the most kind, understanding professors I've met. She genuinely is interested in the class and wants to help everyone succeed. As for the class itself, it is not as difficult as everyone makes it out to be. Just make sure you have effective studying methods and this class with be both easy and fascinating for you.
Very kind and caring, she is a great person and genuinely is interested in what she teaches.. This class was enjoyable and interesting. Amazing TA's as well. Biggest downfall are the online modules, they can be very unclear at times. Along with that, exams and mini-exams can be misleading. Personally, I really liked working in groups during class.
Super easy class and a GREAT lecturer. She's really great at in-depth explanations and giving examples. Super helpful and interactive. Exam 2 is the hardest out of 3 exams but they were all pretty tame. She does do trick questions a lot, but by the time you finish the semester, you're already trained to spot the trick questions easily on the exams.
Be prepared to spend most of your time studying for her class. Her exams and iclickers are confusing. I wouldn't take her class again.
When I looked at Dr. Archibald's rating before taking her class I was concerned, but she is not as bad as her overall rating and reviews give the impression of. BIOL 152 is a flipped course, so it has the side effect of making the lectures a bit boring and repetitive, but helpful for review. Tests are weighted in a manner that can only help you.
The tests in this class were unnecessarily confusing, considering it was only a 100-level class. They weren't the most difficult tests ever, but each question was so nitpicky in terms of the content being asked. The lectures themself weren't as terrible as I had heard, but Archibald can be quite condescending when being asked for help.
The other reviews are pretty harsh; Archibald was a decent professor. It's pretty easy as long as you do the flipped modules on time and take advantage of all the extra credit!
