Dr. Rahn is the coordinator for the Biology faculty, and she runs the Biology lab and discussion sections. I have only seen a professor do so much work and simultaneously be so humble one other time in my life. The lab sections and discussions she runs are easy to succeed in, so long as you take notes, study said notes, and come to class.
Dr Rahn coordinates the intro bio labs and hosts weekly discussions. Not only does she explain the material better than in the main bio lectures but she tells you what you have to know and why. She is organized, articulate, and wants us to succeed. She is firm, expects respect from students and will respect you in return. Best bio prof so far.
Great professor who really cares about her class and students. Also has an adorable dog.
Labs are run by the TA, but Dr. Rahn leads the discussion section. The labs are pretty easy, and there's lots of extra credit available. Dr. Rahn is really nice and seems approachable.
Seems like a very nice professor, always puts cute pictures of her dogs on the powerpoint slides. All you have to do to get credit for the discussion section is show up. She explains the material very well and gives lots of extra credit :)
Love her! She's organized and clear and super helpful. She let us practice in the prep lab for practicals and was extremely helpful when I had questions on the lab brief. Offers a lot of extra credit, so take advantage of that. Also lets you miss two discussion lectures.
Dr. Rahn is a wonderful biology teacher. She is organized and clear with her expectations. She explains and teaches concepts well and tries to make her Powerpoints engaging. The labs aren't terribly difficult, just follow the protocol well. Also there are extra credit opportunities that can really help your grade so go to those they are not hard!
I love Dr. Rahn! She is so sweet, caring, and approachable. She wants everyone to get an A and makes her lectures and experiments extremely interesting and approachable. She is the best!
Dr. Rahn is great! She wants everyone to succeed and has clear grading criteria. Weekly extra credit opportunities available as well.
Dr. Rahn made my freshman biology lab experience wonderful. I learned so much from her interesting, engaging, and fairly easy labs. She strengthened my knowledge of intro bio concepts and made the class as fun as possible. She also made the format switch to online super easy and non stressful. Please take her class! She is a gem!
Jenny Rahn is a great lab coordinator! Super easy to understand what you will be doing in the labs and she makes it clear on what needs to be done and when.
The labs were very straightforward and instructions were easy to follow. The discussions were a little unnecessary but she almost always ended early.
Great lectures, breaks down concepts so you know exactly what's going on + is expected from you in lab. Fair grading for lab reports and projects. Feedback given for every lab assignment so you know exactly what to fix. The only 8am I've every looked forward to.
Professor Rahn is one of the most amazing professors at the college. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed while still making labs informative and interesting.
Professor Rahn was one of the best professors I had at the college. She truly wants her students to succeed while still providing great course content.
Professor Rahn made her expectations clear from the beginning. Even though her class was online and asynchronous, her class was straightforward and informative. She plans out Labs very well, and made them interesting even though we were never in a lab. She always had pictures of her dogs in her Pre lab videos as well, so that was an extra bonus.
I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to conduct a biology lab with hundreds of students asynchronously. Dr. Rahn is a phenom; she did this extremely well. Her grading criteria is clear and fair. The labs she assigns are interesting and relevant, and she does a great job explaining concepts. Outside of class, she is accessible and kind.
Teaching during Covid was probably hard, especially for labs. However, Professor Rahn made the lab in a way for us to easily succeed. Grading criteria is clear and the way we're graded is fair. I've learned so much from this lab. That's helped me a lot with being able to digest scholarly articles. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Rahn did an amazing job teaching online and remotely, despite it being a lab course. The labs were straightforward, instructions were always crystal clear, TAs were easy to communicate with and ask questions, and feedback was always given based on performance. Would 100% recommend her for any lab course!
Loved Dr. Rahn! Her expectations and instructions were clear, she responds to emails quickly, and she was flexible with everything going during the pandemic. She made the online lab fun and enjoyable (and I learned a lot). I also love her dog lol
Professor Rahn is great, and her class was comedically easy. If you get the chance, this is an easy A as long as you can spare like 3 hours of work a week on really easy labs.
Prof. Rahn is an amazing teacher, explains content clearly and grades for completion rather than correctness. Labs did not take too much time and there was plenty of ways to get help and xtra credit. Her course was VERY organized and she made it easy to find what you needed. Out of all my courses, I feel like this was best adapted to being online.
At a time of online classes, Dr. Rahn is a professor that definitely knows what she is doing. Even though labs can be hard to do virtually, she put care in the videos and instructions for each assignment; TA's were always there if you needed any help and gave detailed feedback on the lab every week.
Dr. Rahn is both an amazing professor and person. Her lectures and assignments were extremely well-organized and instructions were always clear. The TA's were also very kind and did their best to answer any questions ASAP. It's easy to tell that she really enjoys teaching and seems passionate in what she does.
I had Dr. Rahn for the BIOL 203 Lab when it was completely online with video recorded labs and thought she handled it so well. She was clear with deadlines and expectations for the class, and communicated well with the class: emails with reminders and updates about course material and common issues. Looking forward to her lab next semester.
Dr. Rahn is the most organized professor that I had this semester. She laid a perfect foundation for her students and taught the material very well. She also is such a kind hearted person and genuinely takes the time to help out. Her pre lab lectures allowed me to deeply understand the lab itself and ensured success. She is a delight!
Professor Rahn and her TA's really did well in structuring a class in a pandemic. They were always super kind and accomodating. While it was online, the labs were still pretty fun and interesting, never overwhelming or too confusing. Do the work, get help if you need it and you will suceed : ). They want you to do well.
Professor Rahn is without a doubt one of my most favorite professors I've ever had. She is consistently clear and organized and very obviously cares about her students' successes. She would answer any question I ever had as clearly and simply as possible. Put in the work to understand the lab, (fairly easy to understand anyway), and you will pass.
Dr. Rahn's lab sections are run by TAs, but when we see her in discussion and in the prep lab she is always so sweet. She knows her stuff, makes sure she explains the reasons why we do the labs we do and the protocol we'll be doing ahead of time. Grading is consistent and easy as long as you put in effort.
jenny is the best take her immediately she's so sweet and cares sm about your life and wellbeing. she made bio so fun and i usually hate bio. the labs are really cool and she gives extra credit for attending guest lectures every week (take advantage of this especially if you miss a lab)
I loved Professor Rahn and, since I didn't like bio, she made the labs so much better. They were much easier to do and she was very helpful and considerate for any situation.
Dr. Rahn is not only a great Professor, but a great person. She is someone who is willing to help outside of class, accept accommodations, and offers a great deal of extra credit. She sets you up really well for the lab that follows each week. Definitely take her lab and discussion if you have the chance!
Dr. Rahn is very funny during her discussion lectures. She has a friendly personality, and you can tell that she knows her stuff very well. BIOL lab was a great experience!
Professor Rahn is a spectacular professor and such a good lab director. She lecutures well, albeit a bit long, to tell you all you need for the lab. Instructions are clear and grading is lenient. Get a good lab group and you should be fine. Make sure you read instructions and you'll get an A
Professor Rahn runs the bio labs, so you will have here for discussion but labs are run by TAs. Professor Rahn is generally very nice but sometimes a hit or miss when asking for an extension. She does offer many extra credit opportunities which are much appreciated but thankfully not always needed since the course is not too hard.
Prof. Rahn is very clear and detailed in her teaching. She is also a funny and kind person. She pushes her students to try new things and made biology lab very enjoyable. Participation counts. Group work is part of the territory. The class format is very easy to follow and she'll remind you of deadlines. Definitely would take her class again!
She's a sweet person who's clearly interested in what she teaches. Her lectures were short and sweet, plus always posted online. Every lecture has participation questions graded for completion. The TAs run the labs, just get a good group, show up, do your part and you'll be fine. Plus there's always extra credit. The final was just another lab.
Dr. Rahn is amazing! Her lectures are full of humor and wit (and her adorable dog Daphne) and lab is set up to help you succeed. She is phenomenal woman I consider myself lucky to have met. I definitely recommend her for everything!
Professor Rahn is a great lecturer and her class tries to make ecology seem interesting for all >400 students taking it. I'm a chem major and still found the labs fascinating, engaging, and relevant. Take the feedback to heart and incorperate into the next lab, don't repeat avoidable mistakes. But easy class and lovely professor
She is super nice and tries her best to make lectures fun
Everybody else's comments are spot on. Professor Rahn's lectures are helpful and the labs are fun. Labs are run by TAs, and mine was great. Make sure to find good lab partners, since you'll need to rely on them for the rest of the semester. In general, this was a fun class that really helped me understand how to use biology in the real world.
She is the nicest, and lab was great. I had never done any lab work before and wasn't super into biology. However, she had clear instructions, helping me catch on quickly, and most of her labs were very interesting. I picked up skills applicable to my major. The TAs I had were helpful, and it wasn't hard to talk to the actual professor if needed.
Bio major, took 203 and 204. She's the best professor I've ever had for any subject. Participation poll in class worth points, extra credit lectures on Fridays. She manages to show personality in a class of over 200, detailed interesting lectures, gives great feedback on projects. I learned so much from her. I love Dr. Rahn with all my heart.
Rahn is such a good lecturer! She presents material in a clear and efficient manner. I loved her presentations and class demonstrations. In lab, her instructions are clearly laid out and defined, resulting in little room for error (compared to the chemistry department...). Love her and love how she made bio lab fun!
Dr. Rahn is the only reason I'm staying with Biology at W&M. She is an efficient grader, lectures without being boring, and is very accommodating to make-up labs. Just definitely go! If the lab is reasonable to do online she has that as an option, and one time when I missed something very important to do hands on, she worked one on one with me.
Super easy, understanding, and fun courses! The labs were super intro bio level but also had concepts that were interesting and helpful to explore. Her discussions were also easy to understand and helpful for the labs. Honestly, I don't have many complaints, you'll probably love the bio lab way more than the lectures if you take 203.
Professor Rahn is amazing for Bio labs! Her labs are super organized and she is accessible outside of lab. You will have a lab TA and they will be the ones leading the labs and grading your work. The labs are super easy to follow because she gives detailed instructions.
I really like professor Rahn. Labs are very fun and 100x better than chem labs here. My only complaint is the Discussion. It is a mandatory 1 hour (0 credit) class where you learn things you already know from lecture. Feels like it could be an email
This was my second semester with Rahn. She continues to be an amazing lecturer & is always available for students. There're many opportunities for students to improve their grade + various extra credit assignments. I think your lab experience will depend on your TA, as mine this semester was very strict and not helpful.
Professor Rahn was incredibly nice and tried to make lectures as engaging as possible. Labs could have had clearer grading criteria but I think that depends more on the TA.
I love Jenny Rahn and highly recommend her lab. In the discussion, she outlines everything necessary for the lab. Instructions are clearly outlined in order. She respects her students' time and makes class efficient without feeling rushed. She prioritizes learning over perfection, so you can get a good grade even if you mess up the experiment.
Jenny Rahn is the coolest person maybe ever. My actual personal hero. Glad to see she's getting the perfect ratings she deserves
Absolutely loved her lectures for discussion before lab. She always explained the reasons behind each lab well even included photos of her two dogs in each discussion. Incredible professor.
Dr. Rahn is great! She is super passionate about the material and makes labs both interesting and informational. I had her for both 204L and 203L (plus their respective discussions). She made discussion lectures interesting and engaging.
My fav bio prof here so far. Rahn is extremely clear of guidelines and expectations for lab. She offers ample practice opportunities before the final and is super helpful with questions. She made lab discussions interesting and is funny.
Prof Rahn's a great lady, good lectures. Gave us all the information we needed for each lab class in the discussions. Gave a lot of extra credit opportunities, usually attending guest lectures. I'd definitely recommend doing them cause it's really simple and helped my grade. The labs themselves weren't very hard but pay attention to instructions.
Professor Rahn's lab sections are great. They will teach you the fundamental skills of bio labs in a safe learning environment that's designed to account for mistakes. Her discussions are helpful in preparation of labs, and she keeps them light and fun.
Professor Rahn's lab is pretty easy and just requires you to pay attention during discussions so that you don't miss anything for the quizzes at the very start of lab days. The content is fine, just tedious sometimes.
Prof Rahn is by far one of my favorite professors at William and Mary and I wish she taught more classes. She is extremely kind, helpful, and accessible. She explains everything thoroughly and is abundantly clear about expectations. She also offers ample opportunities for extra credit. Rahn is just the best!
Professor Rahn is one of the kindest professors I've studied under. I wish she taught other biology classes, but even having her for discussion and lab was a pleasure. She so obviously cares about the well-being of her students, which is a quality I think all teachers and professors should have.
She is nice and funny, and loves her dogs. Discussion is easy and sometimes boring, just sit through it. She is super clear about expectations and lab instructions, which makes things go smoothly every time. If you follow instructions you'll get an A.
I just love Professor Rahn. She is so caring and clearly wants to students to succeed. She takes difficult content and makes it easy to understand. I also really appreciate that she always takes the time to explain why we do each lab. I can't recommend her enough and I wish she taught more classes so I could continue to have her.
Dr. Rahn is the kind of biology teacher everyone wants. She doesn't ask overly nitpicky, confusing questions. She's a very fair professor; tells you what/how something needs to be done, and if you do it, you'll do well. I wish she taught BIOL 203, to any premed students, the lecture section of 203 is ridiculously hard
SUCH a good professor. You don't have any other choice when it comes to BIO 203L, but I would pick Professor Rahn anyway. Pray you get a good lab group and TA, but she is happy to help if you need anything. Super, super nice, and her class is not hard to pass.
Dr. Rahn is amazing for lab, she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, and clearly outlines what you need to do. The only thing I would say is hope you get a decent TA and group, my TA was hard to understand
Professor Rahn was amazing, her lectures are both funny and informative. The TA you get matters but is also very random. This is a very good class; it is just a shame that it is paired with Habbersham's lectures!
Labs are well designed to be fun and educational. Lots of opportunities for extra credit, so long as you submit everything with minimal effort its a free A for the lab-section.
The labs were very easy and educational, although having a bad TA can hurt you. There were plenty of extra credit opportunities, and the final practical was very easy.
Honestly not much to say about the class. She's pretty funny but kinda monotone, however it was a discussion so it's hard to say anything about her based on that. Just be aware that pop quizzes do exist, but they're based off the content from the discussion and a pop quiz is skippable. Still go to the class though.
Not much time outside of lecture and lab was needed to get a good grade. It was always fun and easy to do all the assignments in the lab, the only thing I struggled with was Excel. It's annoying to make up for the discussion and lab if you miss it, and sometimes there are pop quizzes. She offers extra credit. There is a quiz every week in lab.
Jenny is great and really sets the standard of what the biology department should be like here. She is incredible but the biology department needs some serious work as the mentality has lost its legs and way. WE NEED MORE JENNYS!
Pretty easy course. Lab quizzes can have vague questions. Dr. Rahn is very helpful.
I LOVED this lab so much!! You can tell Rahn loves what she teaches! Attend the discussions, and email her if you can't she is always so kind and willing to help. Beware of pop quizzes (3 but you can drop 1) but they are SUPER easy. Overall I am really excited to take more labs with her and you should too!!!
Offers many opportunities for extra credit, aren't needed as the itself lab is not difficult. During discussion she makes it clear what you should know and focus on and what she is looking for in your post lab assignment. Discussions are annoying to go to but she lectures amazingly, there are 3 pop quizzes but you can drop 1. She is very kind!
Extra credit opportunities! Discussion times are inconvenient she's super funny and makes lab fun and sets clear expectations. Super understanding an accessible- pay attention to her discussions sections- attendance is mandatory!!- and do as much extra credit as possible, and you're set for an A! I have her for 204L now and she's amazing again.
Love Prof. Rahn!! She is super nice and understanding. Labs are fun, and discussions can be long but they really help.
I also had her for BIOL 204 Lab, and she continued to be great. She was very accommodating for absences and rescheduling (only if it was prior to the lab, so if you get sick, email before!) Her discussions were also super helpful and she was a great lecturer. Highly recommend.
I also had her for BIOL 204 Lab, and she continued to be great. She was very accommodating for absences and rescheduling (only if it was prior to the lab, so if you get sick, email before!) Her discussions were also super helpful and she was a great lecturer. Highly recommend. And also go to discussion! It was very helpful.
The BIO 204 labs were always easy and so were the pop quizzes in lecture and the pre-lab quizzes. If you took the BIO 203 lab, this one is pretty similar, except that there is no practical portion of the final, and instead there is a group project which was pretty easy. Overall I felt that the labs were easy to carry out as long as you prepared.
I had Rahn for 203L and 204L, she is an amazing professor and her labs and prelab quizzes (made by the TA) are very straightforward if you look over the material she posts right before. Her discussion lectures are very useful and she explains everything in great detail. There are two projects throughout the semester, one individual, one group.
This was my first ever lab, and Dr. Rahn made it feel super accessible. Pre-lab quizzes are easy so long as you review slideshows. Pop quizzes are graded on participation. She had funny one-liners and used everyday language in lectures, so it wasn't hard to pay attention. TONS of cool extra credit; I still went to seminars despite not needing it.
Dr. Rahn is so approachable and helpful. I was not very confident going into this class but she really made it enjoyable for me. Would take again!
BIOL203L + BIOL203D are easy if you just follow the instructions for each lab and pay attention in the lectures. Prof Rahn is fantastic and is a great professor. The lab bit does rely on the TA a little bit, as some are much better than others.
Professor Rahn made the labs enjoyable and understandable throughout the semester. The discussions became slightly annoying and could have been posted as a video. Follow the directions for the eLNs and you will do well
extra 1 hour lecture that's kind of pointless, u show up so u don't miss an attendance pop quiz (can miss one due to drop policy) and if u do skip, u won't struggle much bc most lab procedures are simple. Dr Rahn is clearly a good lecturer (and a great person) but the lab is so easy that the discussion is literally like microscope tutorials lol.
Dr. Rahn makes this lab very enjoyable It was really helpful in teaching me the basics of lab work and the workload wasn't bad at all. She does quizzes but they're all open note and there's plenty of extra credit opportunities if you do bad on a few. The hardest thing you do is a practical and take-home test, but even then they're not difficult.
Prof. Rahn is the best professor in the Bio department!!! She is so kind, the labs are so fun, and her lectures are great! Don't be scared to take a Rahn lab!
I love Jenny Rahn. She is honestly such a cool person and passionate about what she does. Lab was really fun shout out to our TA Bryce
