American lit is boring..he expects discussion every time the class meets.. reads a novel in a week.. he's more into analyzing poems.. although.. essay maybe revised if a C is obtained..very crucial but yet he's nice to look at!
He is a hot teacher but I couldn't stand his colongne and his class was kind of boring. I had to drop it becuase I couldn't stay awake and his cologne gave me a headache!
Very easy class if you pay attention and do the work and show effort. Give lots of time to do homework if any.
Very nice teacher. Willing to help if you ask and also very openminded and good at listening. He gets pretty intense when judging your writing though. Take his class if you're able to (or would like to be able to) critically understand how writers express ideas and feelings.
He is a cutie and i could kind of relate to him in a way. When i am in his class i am comfortable, like i am hanging with friendz, he has that local boy attitude that i can relate to.
I think that Boydstun was a really fun teacher. Although at times his class could get boring it was still good. His work isn't hard as long as you follow directions. He gives a lot of time to complete the writing assignments...Overall he's alright...
One of the best teachers ever. I enjoyed his class and would recommend it to anyone. He is very good and really cares about your writing. Overall, a good class to take and a good teacher
organizied, fair, helpfull, sometimes fun, serious most of the time
cute, cool teacher
Professor Boydstun is very knowledgable, helpful, and organized. Unlike a lot of other professors, he genuinely cares about actually teaching you something useful. The class is challenging, but definitely worth taking since it'll help you with your other classes. Highly recommended!
Mr. Boydstun overall is a good professor. He is willing to help, and trys hard to make sure his students become better writers through the progression of the course.
im currently taking this class. his ok, i guess but i hate the fact that we're always gonna be using for assignments and posting assignments and stuff like that. i didnt sign up for a technology class, but i guess his into that. thats the only thing i hate about it. over all, this teacher is ok so far. maybe it'll change throught out the semester.
Very intellectual instructor who has great knowledge in English and Literature. He is very helpful, shows concern for his students, is reasonable and understanding, and respects his students. I highly recommend him to any student wanting to learn. His class isn't hard, just do the classwork and homework, show improvement and willingness to learn
He's a good teacher and very helpful/encouraging. I learned a lot of useful information this semester. There are a lot of easy in-class activities so don't skip class. There's also hw every week but he gives enough time to do it. If you seriously want to become a better writer I recommend that you take this class.
Very knowledgable, fair to all students...Unlike many other classes, I actually use the knowledge Mr. B taught me in my everyday life. He really wants his students to pass and helps out a lot if your having trouble. Overall...Mr. B ROCKS!!!
there's a lot of essay's but you learn a lot from them. there's not many homework assignments. you pretty much check up your hw, grades, etc on webct.
Everyone should pass through this portal of knowledge.Fair, thourough, extremely well organized, timely are just some explatives that this professor has at his disposal. If you want your peduncles coalesed you should attend his class.
This professor is the real deal. Very demanding but also very fair. His command of the subject matter is absolute. Teaching skills are superb. You have to study hard and do all the homework. His testing is challenging but fair. If you study hard you will pass with at least a B. I recommed him to all of you.
learned a lot from this class
Very interesting, and I learned a lot.
Very, very challenging. Fair but tough grading. Learned lots.
great teacher, there are a lot of assignments due (WRITING INTENSIVE!!) but hes willing to help and has good advice. He knows his stuff and is very organized.
Not good at writing essays but it's a very helpful class. For me it was challenging, but he just wants you to become a better writer..posts homework on the internet so check e-mails daily. good teacher
He really wants the best for his students which is great. The essays pretty much determines your grades (it's equivalent to grading on a curve). He interacts with his students during his lecture which helps during group work and other exercises. This class isn't easy to get an A, but you'll learn so much from him.
Great teacher, I was never good in English in HS but his class helped me get better. Im still not a fan of English classes but would recommend this teacher to anyone, especially who hate english but have to take because LCC makes you.
I NEVER liked English, but what he teaches actually sticks with you... When I finished taking his class, I have the habit of seeing other people's errors in their writing. I highly recommend him. He gives you a lot of writing assignments, but its necessary if you want to improve.
Super cool profesor. I actually learned alot in his class and he made the classes fun and interesting most of the time. He's real chill and down to earth, knows his stuff, and makes you feel comfortable. There's alot of work and you need to come to class every day to keep up but its all good. If you're gonna take an english class, take Mr. B.
Excellent professor. His teaching is clear and effective. This is a class where you learn, and you work for your grade. NOT an easy A - which is what college courses should be. Would recommend to all my friends.
He expects a lot out of his students especially in the essays you have to write. Sometimes his lectures can be boring at times and we usually do a lot of class discussions. Overall he is a good teacher and easily understandable. As long as you do your work you will get a good grade.
This class was a little intimidating at first, but after you get used to Mr. B's teaching style and the work load (which isn't that much), its actually a pretty easy class. There's a lot of homework but if you stay organized and check Laulima on a regular basis you should be good. Mr. B is cool and he's really knowledgeable. I recommend him highly.
Mr B is a great teacher. At first I was scared as I did notlike writing but he was a great encouragement cos he's VERY helpful. He's very clear with his teaching. He's intelligent, knows his stuff and always has something interesting for the class. Highly recommended!
Mr. B is a very good instructor. Sometimes he goes over-explain something but better to fully understand something than to move on without knowing. He is very open to helping his students. The work is easy if you pay attention in class & follow instructions. Attend class regularly! & NO TEXTBOOK :)
I had this instructor for ENG 100. He is an excellent teacher & focuses on appropriate material than just going by a textbook. You can't miss class cuz he'll have in class group assignments and what not. Although I learn a lot out of his class,he can be pretty pretentious, which was really annoying.
I'd have to say he's my favorite english teacher that I ever had. He explains assignments very well, and he has enthusiasm which makes the class fun. I use to hate english in high school, but I actually like english now. Perfectionist when it comes to grading essay's though, my papers were always bleeding with red ink, but lets students revise.
Not an easy A. He makes you work hard on it. I've never put so much effort into an essay in my entire life.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HIS CLASS! He is helpful. Class attendance is recommended for work sheets that aid with essays. If you miss a class it is HIGHLY SUGGESTED that you email class mates to ask for a copy of their notes. Majority of your grade is the essays but easy points given from in class group work. Quiz comes with a study guide!
Men look up to him, women fantasize over him. Mr. B is a solid English teacher. He actually bothers to fix grammar and gives clear and engaging lectures. Everything is on Laulima, hence there is no textbook. He's charismatic and candid, with quick humor; a winning combination. My third time taking ENG 100, most I've ever learned from a teacher.
He makes the class a lot of fun with media examples that are relevant to subject, but all assignments are listed but not too hard to complete. The hw didnt take up too much time and as long as you stuck with the deadlines you were great. This class was a lot of fun one of the best teachers I ever had.
Awesome teacher. Keeps class very fun and interesting. Connects with students, and creates a very open and happy atmosphere. As long as you complete your work, you'll be solid. His lessons are super easy, and he's very personal. If you're not strong in English, his class will for sure help. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! By far my favorite teacher.
Cool professor. He's clear on how you can receive a good grade. His assignments can be a bit hard however he is very helpful. Show up to class for in class assignments and don't be lazy.
Mr. B's lectures are very interesting, and funny as well. But when he grades essays, he is so STRICT and I DON'T recommend this teacher if you are not willing to sacrifice a lot of hours of sweat and tears into your essays. I strive for A's in every class, but I do have limits. I ended up getting C's on average for my papers and a B for the course.
His teaching methods are direct and straight to the point. Hes very clear and teaches us the skills we will need to succeed in college. Simply awesome!!!
Nice guy, tough essay grader but you come out a better writer. Definitely prefer over Ms Levy.
Fun class, lectures are simple. A LOT of group work easy homework. Essays are the big thing in this class he is very strict with grading but always helps you if you email or see him in person. Offered our class extra credit by attending a zombie related talk held at UH and a personal response for 12 points.
I really like Mr. B's approach. He has high standards but he's also really helpful and he explains things clearly. Lots of group work, a few reading assignments, and just 3 essays. I definitely feel like I came out of the class a better writer and student. Highly recommend!
Great teacher! His work is not easy but he gives all resources to accomplish them.
This class takes some work, but he gives you everything you need to get a good grade. He is willing to work with you on assignments and allows for ample studying time for the 2 tests given.
Wonderful professor! His class isn't easy but is definitely VERY helpful; he's very good at what he does. Three 5 page essays, two exams, no textbook! He's very helpful and encourages questions. Gives out a bit of homework, but it's helpful in understanding concepts. Definitely recommended though, he's a great guy and quite handsome ;)
I love Mr. B's British Lit class! Although the class is small, the discussions and lectures are really interesting and makes you think. I also like how he ties everything together which helps me make sense of the readings which can be difficult. You can also tell that Mr. B is really passionate about British Lit. Definitely recommend! :)
Highly recommended. He doesn't even require a textbook. The assignments are fun and essays are on subjects that you'd prefer. Pay attention, take notes and take his tips. Learn to be creative with what you write. Thumbs up.
This class was bittersweet. I love this professor - he's the best at what he does and very passionate about literature. More than happy to help students and always welcomes discussion. But quite a bit of homework, two 5 page papers, easy exam, lots of interesting discussions and lots of reading/writing. Definitely recommended though!!
Loved the 200 class! No required textbook, he posts everything online. He knows his stuff. Pretty strict on grading, but it made me a better (formal) writer. Always available to help, email/in class. Lots of group work, peer critiquing, etc. He wants you to succeed! Pretty quick w/grading. I've also become a better critical thinker. Thanks Boydstun
If being a meticulous and harsh grader to the point that it starts to discourage students from writing is considered being a good teacher then Professor Boydstun gets an +A(a grade that he rarely gives). I honestly gave my all and constantly felt lessened by his grading critiques, which I think silences the students voices in their own papers.
Not a literature person at all, but this class made me appreciate it a lot more. Not only am I a much more better writer than i was from eng 100, but i feel like a more cultured person. He's got to be one of the best eng prof out there. He may not be easy, but you're getting your money's worth out of him. Take him if you want overall better writing
He's an awesome teacher! The textbook that he requires is like a comic book. Really easy to read and understand. He tries to make the class fun, which is good! There was a time he surprised us by not giving us a "final draft". So I received a D for that paper. BUT he saw my efforts and gave me an A for the class. I strongly recommend him.
Awesome Professor, one of the cool ones. After taking his class, I noticed my writing has improved tremendously! I recommend taking his class if you want to better your writing skills!
Awesomeness!! Great sense of humor so his lectures are always fun and engaging, never boring, so that helps. He knows his stuff and knows how to teach 'em. He's fair on grading. Always helpful; gives great, clear advice---so if ever in doubt about something in class, just ask or email him. Excellent teacher. I (so) highly recommend J.Boydstun :)
This class is not easy, but you will learn a lot and you will get your moneys worth. The teacher is not boring and you can tell that he loves his job. Getting help from him is a little hard because he has tons of students but there are peer mentors. This is a challenging class, if you are looking for an easy A, you are not going to find that here.
Great teacher after having horrible ones in high school. Very helpful and makes you intrigued for writing.
Mr. B is a great professor. He set aside class time on some days to have one-on-one critiques of your essays, which really helps a whole lot. Show up to class every day - you never know when he'll have some in-class assignment for you to do. Aside from the essays, there were also short homework assignments. And yes, he is quite humorous.
Boydstun gives great, detailed feedback when correcting essays and it shows that he really cares about his students. I learned a lot in his class because he was so helpful and willing to explain the material. Lots of group work. He is very organized and professional. I highly recommend taking his class!
Professor Boydstun really knows what he is talking about and you can tell that he loves his job. Everyday, he is dressed professional and always well-shaven. His essays aren't that hard, but if you need help, he will give his best advice. Attendance isn't a problem (but that doesn't mean you should skip class). He isn't a tough grader either.
Mr. Boydstun is very organized and dedicated to students. This shows by him having 1 on 1 conferences on essay drafts. Has extra credit opportunities. But, go to class! The way he conducts himself and presents information is very professional. No textbook was used, as his class was lecture-style and writing assignments.
This is one instructor I wished all my instructors acted like. Very professional, unbiased and dedicated to students. Do not think twice about taking his classes,he is awesome!
He's a great English teacher and I skipped a lot (bad habits). But I probably would have earned an A if I put in the effort I should have. Just do your papers and show up for class. I would definitely take him again if I had the chance.
I really liked this teacher!! He was definitely a tough grader as well as someone that was definitely not an easy A but as long as you did the work, he noticed it and tried to help us individually. Over all taught me a lot about English literature. And the theme of the class was so interesting. Books were interesting. Loved it!
Mr. Boydstun was a great teacher. Although I found some of the material difficult, he made the in class work and the discussions really interesting. I feel like I came out of the class a much better critical thinker and essay writer. And I'm more inspired now to read more literature! The essays were challenging but he was a fair grader.
Professor Boydstun really knows what he's talking about. I was a horrible writer, but I loved what I learned from him. He goes over what the semester will be like, couple of essays and a few quizzes. Very organized and professional. Makes you work for the A, you really have to put in the time to write well for his essays. He's awesome though!
I had fun in this class! Kind of sad it's over :-( Mr. B is a pretty funny guy. Sometimes the lectures were a little long, but he's engaging and he gave us some creative assignments. It took a while to get some of the assignments back, but he's organized and is clear with his expectations. He's really passionate about poetry.
Mr. Boydstun is an excellent teacher who motivates his students to think for themselves and to try write poems/essays that are outside of the box. He tends to fall behind in grading papers, but he will do his best to get them back to you with helpful feedback. Several short essays to write, about five poems, and one quiz. Really loved his class.
He is very helpful and very nice. There are only 2 essays which are super easy, some in class assignments, and one presentation which is not that hard. He will always come by to check if you are doing okay and will always ask if you need help (which I did). Thought it was weird at first how we are reading the walking dead but it made class fun
one of my favorite professors ever. his class is extremely fun for an english 200 class and is a great teacher that really helps you become a better writer and a better student
I am currently taking his class and I already want to sign up for another class with him. Great teacher, he always responds to any questions I have. He is also very helpful and detailed when it comes to explaining the grades given for papers in the 1 on 1 meeting he does to help us out. Make sure you go to class or else you will fall behind.
Really opened up my eyes to different forms of writing. I thought it would be horrible doing so many assignments based on The Walking Dead but it was pretty interesting.
I took his class in a jumpstart program when I was a senior at my high school. This class was easy & do-able. I could've went to class more though and definitely got an A. Being his student opened my eyes as to how college was going to really be & got rid of all those stereotypes lol. He's laid-back, & gets straight to the point. Cool teacher
Not hard to get an A. Likes to talk politics- you will usually write papers on current events. good sense of humor. Does some fun activites in class.
His 270 course was on the dark side of human nature and I thought it was really thought provoking. The readings were a little tough and I wish we could have spent more time on some of them, but this course really opened me up to new ways of thinking and I look at the world in a different way now. Tough grader but gives really useful feedback.
There are four essays in this class and, personally, I utterly loathe doing essays. However, Prof. Boydstun is extremely helpful in providing the tools and info needed to help in researching and writing. There is not much homework, aside from occasional blog posts, and overall I am satisfied. He is a great professor, and I definitely recommend!
English was my least favorite subject until I took this class. He makes English about so much more than just writing. Thought provoking, action inspiring and a very critical grader which makes you a better writer. If my major was English Id take professor Boydstun as much as possible.
It is a very engaging class, but overall it makes you think of the world differently. I can definitely say I am a better critical thinker. Although, he is a really tough grader overall I enjoyed the class. It is not an easy A
Professor provides a lot of examples for the essays but sometimes, it can be challenging to finish
Reluctant to teach, condescending, very difficult grader. Treats students like bugs.
If you are thinking of seriously brushing up your writing and preparing to publish a book, then go for Boydstun's class. If you just need writing intensive credits, do yourself a favor and don't. His feedback is clear but he is a VERY harsh grader and doesn't use a rubric to justify his gradings so at times you wonder if he just likes ruining GPAs.
Works with you to get an A
Jeremiah is great at providing feedback that helps you with your writing process. There are four major essays with writing exercises in between. And the study material, serves to prepare you for the larger papers. He grades fairly, but there is a lot of work and reading material and it can get too political. Do the work and you'll get a good grade.
Starting the semester, I struggled to keep up with the workload. He gives insightful feedback that may sometimes seem like he is difficult to please--but he genuinely wants his students to improve! There will be a good amount of writing (papers) and smaller assignments, but as long as you keep up with the work, you'll do well. (OFFICE HOURS!)
Not an excellent teacher. Not really a teacher at all. Gives articles to read but doesn't teach. If he doesn't like what you wrote, he simply says "read the Module over again", without giving specifics that need improvement. Has a lot of email attitude. I have always been an "A" student in English, but this teacher is discouraging. Be warned!
Condescending, Rude, Vague, and very unprofessional. I took his online classes for ENG 100 and the majority of the time he would be openly vague about the subjects we would cover. For the majority of my assignments, I found myself using outside sources instead of the ones he issued due to him being way too vague about certain subjects.
Condescending. Awful.
