He's cool, laid back, relatable, & a easy going kinda teacher. Your essays will be 1500word essays but he doesn't make them too hard. He's funny when you interact with him and easy to get him off subject! Its funny! Overall he's a great teacher!
He is a chill professor that requires about 3 essays to write for the semester. He explains the essentials to establish a good writing foundation that will help you for future classes. Nice guy, interesting conversations will be had in class. Make sure you participate so he knows your name. I would not mind taking him again. Cool guy
He's decent, a little awkward. Decent essay graders. LOTS of essays.
Reading material was interesting. We wrote papers about zombies in American culture. Feedback on papers isn't a lot but enough to help you rewrite and correct your work.
You will have to turn in a daily assignments call questions and comments. It is a very easy A. I felt like I wasted my time and I did not learn a lot. It was boring for me because I like challenges. People like his class because it is really easy.
He is a great teacher! At first I thought he didn't make much sense but there is method to his madness and by the second week you should be able to understand his style. He is very understanding and reasonable.
13 books in 16 weeks, nice guy, even people who were certain of maybe a 'c' got an 'A.' Ultimately, if I had to do the year over again I'd have still taken him. There is a lot of reading, no avoiding that, I used sparknotes and wikipedia to help guide my work. Gave better feedback on essays than any previous teacher. If you take him, good luck.
Awesome Teacher! Every time he talks i learn so much. He has a vast amount of knowledge. Very nice a lot of feedback. only 3 papers to write and its fun to write he lets you be creative. Very flexible. He is genuinely a nice person would take again. He makes English fun and even if he does put your paper on the projector you are the best. :)
I can honestly say that he has changed my life. I am a lot more confident in my writing, and he really did help me through out the whole semester. I am an English major and with this class, and the help he has given me, I am way more prepared for my future, and my career. If you want a class that is easy, and will make you laugh, I would take him!!
hes one the most helpful teacher. if he were teaching more classes, id take all of them with him. very helpful and easy A:)
Papers on Zombie subject sound easy but they are not beware Lol. He warns that he does not hand out A's easily but it is possible. We had to watch George Romero's movies which I was not a big fan off. He did take a while to grade and assigned essays last minute. Does not go over essay structures much you have top know this already so beware!
The Prof. takes a minimum of 2wks to 1month to grade an assignment, reading response and essays; most importantly the grades are not visible for you to view on Eagle Online and the Prof will not respond to your email if you emailed him requesting to know your grades. NOTE: Don't take his online classes, his classroom classes are better.
I don't know where to begin. First of all, if you are an international student or have another first language you better try another person, but if you would like to CHALLENGE yourself take him. Then, the class was about zombies , in the beginning at thought it was cool but omg lectures or Articles or Research are LONG.
Prof. Crotser is a really good guy. LOTS of reading and he expects you to think. Get ready for detailed quizzes. Tests were easier than I expected, given the amount of reading material assigned. He's funny and relatable and wants his students to learn. I'd probably take him again.
I was thinking about dropping the class. I talked to Prof. Crotser about this and he told me not to do so. He gives really good feedback for the essay draft and that helped me pass my class with an A. I would recommend him.
Great professor, just do the work & you'll pass no lower than a B; if you put in that effort easy A.
you have to do a lot of work tough grader wouldn't take him
Took in summer. Very laid-back class, which means you have to be self-motivated because there are papers that he grades according to a certain criteria that if you go into carelessly you will be disappointed by your grade. The readings were diverse and freely available online. lots of group-work and interactivity. gives time to write in class.
Great teacher, the usual three essays, a few class discussions and u r good to go. He works very well with students, very understanding. Gives you assignments in advance so u know what to expect.
Croster is the best engl 1302 professor I ever had, I would know I failed this class 2x with others. He's very specific about what he expects, NO TESTS, only 3 essays and a research paper, lets you work in class and feedback is very helpful. EASY A. Laid back professor and smart! Fun topics on essays and I hate essays.
i really enjoyed the readings.I just really hate that I feel like he is all over the place. took way to long to get feedback or grades. paper are a bit difficult to write due to the topic not being that vast.
Material was current, which made participation more enjoyable.
You will have to read a lot every week. Make sure you read and do the assignments and you will pass his class. I did not like that professor Crotser would take a long time to grade assignments. It also takes him anywhere from 24hrs to 72hrs or more to reply back to your emails. Overall, I would say he is an ok professor.
The homework assignments are very straight forward and easy, I really enjoy the class.
A lot of writing (essays and assignment word counts are long) but covered movies and comic books which was nice. Gives good feedback on essays. Overall knowledgeable and good professor.
I loved this class! Aside from the awesome dystopian theme, his class is divided into three units. First unit are movies, second is a comic book, and the third is a novel, it is a lot of work and a lot of reading but a totally doable class. I think i'm an average writer and got A's on all 3 of my essays. He gives good feedback too! I
I really really didn't like this teacher. he took attendance in the beginning of class and is really wack about it. im going of of my way to write this so that should say enough. he yelled at students in class. it was a scene. take this required class from any other teacher
Instructions are clear and so are his expectations. Feedback is detailed. Not excruciating compared to other eng professors. Easy going. Material is intriguing and relevant. You're expected to write meaningfully, effort is required. If you are good at english, you'll pass. A little slow at uploading classes and grading. Take Crotser if you can.
honestly, he is an easy teacher, do your work and you will pass. I would recommend you take him just because its a very easy class, leaves homework but its just discussions that don't take much effort and a total of 3 essays that he takes about a month to give feedback on.
I took his class for the 5 week summer session. Lots of reading and writing assignments, but overall a really great professor. He's a generous grader and has clear instructions that makes the class run smoothly.
Everything was really well structured for something as gray as a humanities class. The professor grades really leniently, which was also great. There was a bit of reading, but the books chosen were enjoyable. Great professor, fun class; exceeded my expectations for a humanities class.
This is a really cool prof! He's one of those people who never gets mad or upset about anything literally. He gives interesting books and passages to read but be ready to read and write weekly!! nothing too hard but its kind of overwhelming sometimes. Overall he's a great prof and i recommend him for anyone who wants an A with effort added
Pretty good professor do your work and you will be okay, wont give extra time or extra credit but assigments are pretty easy ,just essays base on the stories(books) dont buy them you can find the pdf online , and as well he summarize the story so that helps a lot without the needing of reading everything
He's a good professor, take him.
If you take Prof. Crotser class you wont regret it. He is caring, funny but most of all a great instructor. Sadly I didnt take 1301 with him as well, but if you still havent, dont hesitate and choose him. He is empathetic, well informed, prepared, nice, and polite. You can tell that he really is into his course, his enthusiasm is contagious.
This has been the best professor I've had. He helps you look at things in a different light. He is an amazing professor and enjoys class participation. I won't say this class is an easy A but if you do the work and listen to his feedback you should have no problem getting an A.
Professor Crotser was, by far, the best English professor I have ever taken both during and before college. He is extremely interactive and gives some of the best advice I have ever experienced in regards to papers written. The book that people seem to be complaining about is a near picture-only novel with less than 100 pages. Participate for an A!
I drop his class because he wants to read one novel in one week and write an essay on it and this novel is not available in store either. also, he said if someone comes in class after 5 min late then he should be count absent. so I drop his class because he is too much demanding and according to me, not a good professor.
doesn't give help after asking for some on assignments.
What should've been an easy A turned into a very difficult class solely because of his rudeness.
easy work but rude in replies
He is a great professor but i"m not the participation type of person. He gives great feedback but his homework seems to be a lot but then again I took ENGL 1302 in the summer. He tends to kinda talk a lot but has very interesting books and essays. Great teacher for some for those you come to class everyday and participate.
I had to retake 1302 over the summer in a five week course, and Professor Crotser was my best choices. I was always lacking in essays, but he gave amazing feedback on my papers and helped me improve a lot. Overall I enjoyed his class; there's a fair amount of work to be done to get an A in the class, but he is very caring and will help you pass.
This was one of the best English classes I have ever taken, the professor was amazing and a real gem his lectures were super interesting and his essays were very fun to write. Take this class if you want to enjoy English and pass. There's no final and just 3 essays plus fun discussions. Take this class you won't regret it!
teacher is difficult to deal with even though the class is easy, if you can work independently without needing to deal with him then take class
He really is one of the easiest teachers I have ever taken. There are about 10 essays that need to be at least 500 words, however, the course material is super simple. There is a lot of reading involved but all the texts can be found online and there are some he provides. Granted I took it in the summer, so it wasn't spaced out but it was easy.
the classes are pretty simple, but if you need help from the teacher he replies in a rude fashion and is not an understanding person. not lenient on anything
Not a bad class if it's interesting to you. You have to get all three textbooks even though you can print out what is assigned on google, so it's your choice on getting the textbooks. Assignments(Essays), reading notes(Your opinion on quotes you choose). and in-class quizzes(5 questions); One of the three is always due each class period.
Reading due each class usually around 10 pages of text. Based off the readings their are 5 short assignments of 700 words, 9 quizzes that have 5 questions, and 8 reading notes which consist of a response to 2 quotes of your choice. Usually one of those due each class. One midterm, one final exam and a poem memorization. Easy A if you do the work.
Amazing amazing amazing, he gives feedback answers emails, in the beginning it seems like a paper of 500-700 words was due every week and a 1 discussion or 2 which were not hard. Later like in the last 2 months of school you will not have alot to do. 3 major essays as well but the wonderful thing is I learned something while having fun writing
Gives a fair bit of work but if you meet the requirements you should do well. Classes were mostly powerpoint lectures and group discussions. Very knowledgeable and overall solid prof.
I took his class in the summer. He responds fast to emails and has a very well structured class. There is a lot of reading involved and assignments are due very close together since it's only a 5-week course but he gives great feedback on the papers. Overall, if you want a fun class and are ready to put in the work, definitely take him, he's great.
Honestly, I don't know from where that "AWESOME" reviews come from. This instructor will confuse you a lot with his requirement, and there are 3 major essays 1500 words each. Plus, short essays 700 words each. It is intensive reading class with a lot of intellectual mazes superstition novels. And he does not reply to emails appropriately. DO NOT
Professor Crotser was awesome! He's obviously very passionate about literature and really wants students to learn to think critically. Lectures are fun if you join in (this is a good class to sit near the front), and quizzes and tests are fairly easy. If you like writing and analyzing, you'll love this prof.
This was by far one of the most interesting english classes I have ever taken. He grades really lenient just make sure you do ALL the assignments because they call carry the same weight. Due to corona he did shorten our workload and we only did 2 1500 words essays instead of 3, but he still gave great feedback. Easy A if you do the work.
I am taking and finishing up Professor Crotser's 5 week summer session. His readings may be long, if you complete it and do the discussions and short essay assignments, you will definitely pass the class. He responses to messages fairly quickly. Grading, you'll have to be patient of course, he has to read through everyone's paper and give feedback.
Best English class I have ever taken, I recommend to take his course. Turned in a few late assignments but still managed to get an A-. The assigned work is easy as long as you do what is asked. Professor replies promptly to emails/messages. Topics are interesting, professor provided all readings so no textbook. Assignments promote creativity! 10/10
Prof. Crotser is a great teacher! I took 1302 over summer online & I have panic attacks w/ writing papers. (seriously)It's also been a minute since I've been in school so learning MLA,& the diff. analysis' worried me. He is great to learn from. 1 book, 2 films, disc. posts, & 3 major essays. Be yourself & take a chance when you write, he WILL help!
Prof: Crotser is an understanding. If you're stuck in your course, you have to communicate with him, and he will cooperate with you. He responds to every email; and provides good feedback. However, he's a tough grader, in order to get A in his class, I have to work a lot harder than I did ever before. Though his feedbacks will improve your writing
The work in the class is not hard but not easy at the same time. Make sure you read the papers and poems on time. The only thing is the amount of papers we had to write.
Requires a lot of time to read, watch movies and a lot of writing. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this class! He does provide great feedback.
This class isn't horrible but it isn't the easiest either. He issues some heavy reading material, but nothing that the internet can't help you with. He's a SUPER fair grader. Multiple essays, but like I said, he's a super fair grader. 1-2 assignments due weekly, a discussion reply and maybe an essay. Not bad! He's very nice and understanding.
Overall, his work is pretty simple and easy to do, his lectures are easy to understand and his essay that he gave us was always related to our work. All ways do the work and you pass.
He is a really good professor. There is a lot of reading, & a lot of assignments, but I found the readings to be extremely interesting. There are regular reading discussions based off of each piece of reading, & at the end of each module, you have a short essay to write. Final exam you could use readings & PPTs.
This class was definitely not what Id expected it to be, but he made it very interesting with provided readings and more easier with assignments and discussions. Hes fair with grading papers so I would definitely recommend this class!
Had British lit. Despite weekly assignments. he grades lighter than a professor that may have less assignments. Make sure to do all the essays. Look at summaries and reviews on the readings if you can't sit and read through them.
His Brit lit is very easy. But you have to read every single book he assigned for writing your paper. You also need to get ready to write a lot. He just kept talking and talking in his lecture. But the lectures will help you with the Final exam. I got the highest score on the final without reviewing anything. He isn't a hard grader.
Professor Croster was a very good professor and honestly was an easy class if you just attend the lectures and reading responses. About 2 reading responses per week which are just to make sure you read the work. Otherwise amazing professor and highly recommend. Check his syllabus too!
One of the best teachers Ive ever had, if he taught any other subjects I would take every single class that he offered. He took over my English to class in the middle of the semester. He is very understanding, very flexible, very caring, and loves what he do. Take his class and you will not regret it.
Prof is great! Always gives feedback, chance to rewrite, allows you freedom to choose from diff subjects within story, you will actually want to write papers when finish his class. Uses short story, 2 movies to write on, disc posts matter, clear directions & helps u. You won't regret him. (I took eng 2' 2 x b4 hated writing papers. JC is best prof.
He is very nice and understanding. He replies super late though but he gives great feedback! grades a little slow but I know he has a lot to read so I dont mind it that much. Make sure to follow his instructions and watch the module videos and youll be okay!
You do a lot of discussions and writing assignments but their pretty easy and two final essays. He grades pretty fair just do your best and you'll pass.
Worst class I've ever taken. Whole class about zombies. Watched 6 zombie films and read lots of long zombie papers. 2 discussions a week and several 700 word papers, 3, 1500 word papers. Comparing capitalism, Covid, life problems to zombies. Very unprofessional political rants every class. Didn't grade assignments till last week of the semester.
Dr Crotser is an amazing professor. Very caring, lenient, and considerate. Yes there is some reading involved around his themes but they are fun and easy. If I knew of him earlier I would have taken him for both semesters. In person and online a very kind and articulate individual.
3 essays, 11 discussions over assigned readings/movies, and 6 short assignments 3 of which are essay proposals. All the work is easy!! If you do the work, you will be fine. Even if it's hasty and careless, turn it in. You will fail by doing nothing. If you need help, please ask. He's always willing and will give you sources to look in to.
Great lectures and excellent storytelling of the reading. This professor feels very passionate about his work and tells everything how it is with great honesty. Gives great feedback on grades and essays.
This class was overall a very straight-to-the-point class. We learn about monsters and how they are incorporated into the real world. If you stay organized and are focused, you will easily pass this class. He is a great helper and his feedback is VERY thorough and clear so your final essay will be great. Not a harsh grader!!
Awesome professor, he's really relaxed and very understanding, I really enjoyed the readings he assigns. Attendance isn't neccesarily mandatory, but it's recommended since he goes over the criteria of what is needed for each upcomming essay. Just do the work and you will get an A. He even let me do an assignment off my fav comic book! :)
Great class and loved the discussions. The material covered for Humanities was very interesting and Professor Croster did a great job of making it understandable and linking the overall themes.
Professor Crotser is very inclusive when it comes to participation, he wants to hear everyone's opinions and is willing to answer any questions about the readings given. His lectures were great, they had a way of keeping me intrigued in topics I would have never learned about willingly. He does a great job as a professor and is one that I recommend
Professor Crotser was a great teacher for me. I took his class in the summer, and it wasn't difficult at all. The assignments were straightforward, and he was available through email if you had any questions. The reading material was interesting too. Overall, it's an easy A as long as you do the work in a thought out and timely manner.
This professor teaches in a way that will help you remember information. He helps you see and analyze any piece of text in a way you've never thought of before. He is very detailed when it comes to readings, especially poems. I enjoy having him as a professor.
One of the best professors I've ever had! You can tell he really cares and he also offers great feedback. There's a bit of reading but some of them are very interesting. You wont regret taking him.
I loved the professor! He always gives good feedback, and he really does care about his students, he always answer questions that students have in the best way that he can. I'm hoping to take him for my next English class. In the class there are a lot of essays, but its only to help you for the classes that are to come. I would rate him 100
Great Professor! He personally cares for his students by asking questions and checking for understanding.
He gives you more than enough chances to pass so if you don't idk what to tell you.
Great professor. Gives very helpful feedback on essays and gives you many chances to pass his class. There are a few essays but the topics are interesting, they aren't hard at all, and he gives you A LOT of time to get assignments turned in.
One of the best professors I have had! There is a lot of work to do, but his classes and assignments make you want to do the work because of how interesting the class and assignments are. I noticed that he sets his discussions and short assignments around the major essays, so if you actually are doing all of the assign the MJR essay will be easy!
Avoid him at all costs! Long esaay every week. Super long esaay every month(2500 words). Be prepared to do a lot of reading each week. He doesn't grade anything until the end of the semester. If you're willing to spend a significant amount of time in an English class, he may be the choice for you. He is definitely not a 5/5.
As long as you do your homework you will get an A+. He does not grade tough but there is alot of work, but I think it is fairly easy.
1. Good Feedback 2. Amazing Lectures 3. A bit over-average on the assignments (I took the summer session) 4. Really fun Person 5. Forgiving and helpful
One of the best Professors anyone can take in ENGL. Super easy class, only if you do the work. Definitely a 5/5 instructor.
I haven't come across a better professor than him at HCC. He's very clear with his instructions and gives amazing feedback to help you improve. Super chill on deadlines and understands the student circumstances. This class was a 5 week Summer course which was online so I was skeptical at first, but now I feel that I made the best decision.
Dr. Jeremiah Crotser is one of the best English professors at HCC in the English department. He is an easy grader, and he does not grad hard. he will let you turn in late work and he gives great feedback on your assignments. Overall, he is an amazing professor and take him if you want to pass English with an A like I did. he is very understanding.
WORST professor ever.
If you love reading and talking then this is the course for you. Grading can be confusing and unorganized at times but overall he is a great professor and does his job well. He also gives opportunities to make up assignments.
Very passionate about the topics he teaches and works hard to keep topics in class relevant to current issues. The lectures can be a bit long, but if you participate it is very easy. Lots of annotation assignments, but they are not difficult and he always goes over the material in class. I learned a lot in this class!
Crotser was an amazing professor! Profoundly understanding of his students and their time as well as always willing to help those who need it. Easy when it comes to grading and great at giving feedback to make adjustments to future assignments and work. Grading scale also very good!
Great professor, nice and understanding. He does grade pretty late so I suggest turning in assignments on time. All assignments are annotation assignments so there is lots of reading.
Great professor, really understanding with missing assignments. Does grade assignments late so I would recommend turning in your assignments on time. Get ready to ready and discuss lots of material.
This was a good class! There was a lot of annotation assignments but they are relatively easy just sometimes a lot of reading. He is very understanding and gives opportunities for extra credit and turning in late assignments. He is passionate about the topics and does good to relate what we are talking about back to modern things.
Professor is very forgiving with attendance, classes manage mainly with lectures and interactive discussions. Also quite forgiving with assignments. Lectures are pretty long though.
Take Him! Really good teacher and will take late assignments and will also give extra credit, really funny and understanding. TAKE HIM, WILL NOT regret IT!
I believe he paid people for these ratings because there is no way his rating is that high. He lacks communication and does not reply to his emails. Also the way he grades the annotations are really weird.
Amazing professor/lecturer. Kind of a hard class, but just do the work required...he accepts almost everything late (up to a day without penalties)
*Online Anytime Great class, not much course load with 2 major essays, 3 short assignments, and 4 annotations and 4 quizzes covering of one of Freud's essays, but it was a dense text around which much of the course was based. But we actually had to cover more material, it took time for prof to update the course/reply to emails. He accepts late work
Professor is super understanding and gives plenty of chances to succeed. Lots of reading, but with helpful lectures and resources like unstuckstudy that make it manageable.
His work was not too hard. There was a good amount of it but it was super easy and interesting to do. His lectures were interesting and its obvious that he cares about what he is teaching.
Professor Crotser is an amazing professor and teacher, he will motivate you and show he believes in you. We spent half the semester reading Freud(meh), and the other half watching movies and listening to music through the lens of Freud. This worked well in conjunction with my Psych class. I hope to take ENGL1302 with him. It's English, so write!
Good professor, just takes too much time on grading assignments. He accepts late hw ( I never turned mine late). Caring professor and he makes his class interesting.
This is my second time taking a course with Dr. Crotser and it was just as great as the first time. His lectures are fun if you pick Human Horizons Emphasis. 2 Essays, Multiple annotations and discussions. He grades late, but as long as you do your work and do it well, you should be fine. He accepted all assignments late with penalty. Take him!!!!!
He is such a baddie, 10/10 would his class again.
I took professor Croster a year ago during the spring semester and boy was he amazing. His assignments are simple including 2 essays as your exams, for me it was more like research papers. It was challenging since it was my first time, but I learned a lot from it and the professor. I would definitely take him again if I could, I recommend him 100%
Get ready to read poem, articles and play. Have video discussion, annotation and quiz as assignment. Writing essay final. *But in general, he is a nice person, inspiring and actually know and into what he's talking about, would definitely take him again.
very lecture heavy, he does seminars, go in knowing the material because he will ask you questions about it. He grades very late so submit your assignments on time. He's a good guy tho easy class ngl.
Beware He Grades at the last moment days before the courses end you are left lost slow grader
