Dr Dancy lectures the entire class. As long as you pay attention, you will do fine. We were required to read a chapter from the text book each week so having one is important. There are 3 tests and they are all essay and short answer questions, he reviews what is on the test the day before.Overall, he is a good instructor and I recommend taking him

He makes history look sexy. His class is fairly enjoyable. I really enjoyed his class, just make sure that you stay on top of the reading for his reading quizzes. And attend class because he does have a strict attendance policy, but overall one of my favorite professors

His lectures are extremely long and boring and require little participation. His test are short essays which are difficult for some. He does always dress nice, however not enough for me to recommend his class.

Great professor! To do well you must read. There is a midterm, research paper, final and blog entrees. if you grasp the concept you're good. If you show an interest in the class and your grade, he will go out of his way to help you and make sure you excel in his class. He always comes to class in a good mood. Very passionate about his career field.

Great Teacher but was really boring at first but as the year went on he tried new things to make the class better. He really cares about what he is doing and is a great professor. You have to earn your grade, nothing is given to you.

Dancy's lectures really help with the Exams, which are made up of an in-class essay and short essay questions. The good thing is that he gives you the questions ahead of time to prepare for the exams and bring an outline of notes to use while you write them! However, with this he still has high expectations of one's work. Great class!!!

This requires a lot of reading but the material is actually interesting. His quizzes are easy and if you read you will have no problem. All tests are short answer with an essay. He can beunny... sometimes but most of the class is pure lecture which isn't always interesting. Overall a great teacher!!

His lectures can go on and on and class participation is low but regardless he wants the student to do well and learn from the class.This is not an easy class.If you want an A, you need to earn it.If you read the chapters, and pay attention in class you should be fine.There is a movie review that is easy to do.Overall, it's a rewarding class.

This man will go down as one of my all time favorite professors. He wants nothing more than for a student to succeed and it's made obvious by how he often mentions that you can go up to his office and ask questions on quizzes, exams, etc. Of course, there is a lot of reading, but we're in college people! He's a great teacher!

This course has heavy reading. If you understand basic history from high school then you will have no problem with this class. All quiz's and tests are in essay form. If you read the text book and come to class regularly you will pass this course.

This was a great class. It was a little hard in the beginning but once I got used to how college was and that I actually needed to study the class became pretty easy and VERY enjoyable. Professor Dancy is very helpful and if you go to all your classes and do any extra credit he will help you out and you will do fine. Love this guy.

Dr. Dancy is an exciting and helpful instructor. He is almost always available to talk to and discuss anything you may need extra help with. You simply can talk to him for feedback on your grades received. His tests and quizzes are challenging, being that they are no multiple choice, but if you study, you should be fine.

I absolutely loved Dr. Dancy and his class! all written tests & quizzes but they arent hard b/c he tells you exactly what to study! You can miss 3 days. Everyone says he is strict on his attendance policy but it's the usual. You do have to read!! That is the most important. If you don't read then you won't pass the class. If you are having any trouble do go talk with him. He is super nice and very helpful. Overall his class wasn't easy because you have to read so much but it also wasn't hard.

This class was super easy! All you had to is take notes in class and read. His test are all essay format and as long as you study, you'll be okay. There are review days where he will help answer any question you might have. He does take cheating VERY seriously. Attendance is mandatory. His lectures aren't too boring and actually engaging.

Dr. Dancy was super helpful and very knowledgeable on the subjects. He allowed students to discuss the readings but added his opinion if we missed something or missed an impt point. He requires a lot of reading and a long paper in both classes, but the reading was interesting and valid to the class. His expectations are clear and he helps if asked.

If you are a history major, this teacher is worth taking. He is funny and teaches well. However you must work hard and the textbook is a must! And he is very approachable. don't be lazy :)

Dancy is a great professor, loved the way he conducted his class and laid out his assignment. He is VERY knowledgeable and cares very much about helping you pass, even better, do exceptionally well.

I really enjoyed this class! Yes, class consists of lectures and writing, but he makes it enjoyable! He really is an amazing professor and I got an A on all of his written exams because he tells you what he expects. (plus he lets you bring an outline on exam day). Best professor I've had

You're gonna hate him at first trying to figure out how to do well in his class, but as long as you read and listen to what materials will be in his tests you'll be fine. I started out with a D and hated him and am finishing the class with an A. He's a good professor.

Although attendance is mandatory for this class, it definitely worth it. Dr. Dancy explains things very well and even though his tests aren't multiple choice don't let that scare you as long as you keep up with reading and attend lectures and pay attention exams are extremely easy.

I can honestly say that Dancy was the best professor I had this semester. Do you want an easy A? Don't take him. He makes you work for it. His class consists of 6 reading quizzes (drops one); three exams, each consisting of three short answers and one essay question; a final paper; and also gives lots of extra credit. Work hard and you'll pass.

Tests are essay format one 2 page and 3 shorts answers. He gives concepts you should understand for the tests. Quizzes aren't hard if you read. Although reading might seem like it's a lot it's not especially if you divide it up. I was never a fan of history but he made me appreciate it and I learned instead of memorized!

Dr. Dancy's class was the best class of my first semester in college. He assigns chapters to read each week, and if you do the reading you're sure to pass. His exams are easy. If you can make a good outline for the essay, then the free answer questions won't be hard. Best of all is the extra credit opportunities that he gives.

HIS 5363: Military History (British Navy in the Age of Revolution) , Very good class learned a lot. It is a Masters Class so it is not easy, and it should not be. Dr. Dancy quick to answer questions, encouraging. Wants you to succeed , if you do good is willing to give recommendations.

He's a fantastic teacher and easy to understand. He's straight forward and only has one paper which is a guaranteed B if you follow all of the criteria. His tests are easy, study the notes he gives in class. Expect a couple of pop quizzes from the reading. If you miss more than three days, you drop a letter grade so show up. Fun and funny.

Dr. Dancy is awesome. He is very clear and he encourages one on ones to make sure that you as an individual student is getting the help you need. You will definitely pass if you keep up with the readings and pay attention during lectures. He's very funny and he keeps lectures interesting.

I took Dr. Dancy for the first semester at SHSU. I found him very knowledgeable. Make sure you read before class, the quizzes can hurt your grade. He gives a paper that is the easiest way to bring your mark up if you follow directions, and put an honest effort into. He is hilarious, and really made going to class enjoyable. I will take him again!

Enjoyed his class. We had 6 quizzes, 1 is dropped. Out of those, 3 were given to us in a group quiz, put up answer on board, and attendance grade. He allows a single sheet of paper during test for notes. The test is the study guide, which he give you the week before or so. Would highly recommend! I had a B but took final and made an A!

Dr. Dancy has been one of the best professors I've taken at Sam Houston. He is very passionate about History, which made many boring lectures pretty interesting. Reading is expected in this class to pass because random quizzes are given based on the textbook. TAKE NOTES!!! Many questions are based on what he says during class.

I love Dr. D! He's one of my favorite professors here at Sam. Might seem intimidating at first, but is hilarious and incredibly helpful. If you're having trouble, just let him know! Lectures are interesting and organized, and he focuses a lot on the military and naval aspects. And guys, I know he has a chili pepper, but chill out. He's off-limits.

Dr. Dancy is a great professor. His essay feedback has been incredible and I can tell my writing is getting better. He is definitely tough- LOTS of reading, but I am learning way more in this class than I am in my other classes. It is a challenging course, but I highly recommend him.

The exam is 1 Essay & 3 short answers. Reading is essential for pop quizzes. Don't skip Mondays because you can't make up those quizzes. 6 pop quizzes but takes 5 for a grade & there's a midterm paper. Assigned seating and has 2 TA's. Caught on phone absent. He is a very knowledgeable man and had like 10 extra credit opportunities this semester.

You MUST GO TO CLASS if you want to pass, miss 3 and every time after that he drops you a letter grade. You do have almost weekly quizzes over reading, always on Monday so make sure you do. Dr. Dancy was very helpful. I had to go out of state on the day of the first test and after telling him it was for a wedding he let me take the test early. He is very accommodative and makes the class bearable with jokes and extra credit. He is a hard grader, but if you read the book you should be fine. His TA's are helpful too, overall great class

Dancy was an awesome professor. I took him for my very first semester of college and it was a great introduction to what college professors expect. You have to read a new chapter every week. The exams and quizzes are handwritten, but he holds study sessions. I would def take his class again.

Dr. Dancy is a really great professor. His class requires a LOT of work so if you don't put in the effort you won't pass. There are pop reading quizzes so be sure to get the textbook. His lectures are long and I recommend taking a lot of notes because his tests are Blue Books (all written). This class sounds scary, but I really did learn a lot!!

This is by far the toughest class I've taken when it comes to tests, but I made it through because I was scared and tried extra hard. He gives 3 tests and optional final (they are all written, NO multiple choice EVER), and 6 reading quizzes (he drops the lowest). He gives out a bunch of extra credit which can really bump you up a whole letter grade

Dr. Dancy is probably one of the best HISTORY professors in the department. His class was one of the most fun and informative classes I have taken. HAVE TO READ! The exams are essays so the more you know the better. And participate in the round table but most importantly be original and intelligent with the term paper! Oh and know Chicago style!

Dancy gave lectures every monday and wednesday, then group discussion on friday. His lectures are really good and take notes. All of his exams were take home exams which were easily passable if you take notes!

I loved this class he made history interesting instead of dry and boring. He doesn't assign books but he does upload articles every week and you have to write a 300 word response answering the question each week. The test are take home because they are essay test. As long as you take notes and show up you'll pass. He also gives extra credit!

This was my first course I took at Sam. I was nervous and unprepared for college, but I am great full that I took this class during my freshman year because it prepared me for the rest of my academic life. I started off failing or barley passing the quizzes and test, but I progress better and in my final I had the highest score in the class!

This was my second time taking a course by Dr. Dancy, and both times it was fantastic. He really knows his material and his lectures are always very interesting. Be prepared to write quickly in class and read heavily at home. Worth the stress.

Dr. Dancy was one of the most helpful professors I've had but was very clear about his rules about the class. He makes you work for your grade, but his intelligence will help you pass. He's a hard grader, but the more effort, the better grade. I recommend this professor because the earlier you take a hard professor, the more prepared you are.

Dr. Dancy is quite possibly one of the best professors I've had at SHSU. He is a fantastic professor. His lectures were interesting, funny, and almost always on track and preparing you for the exam. Exams are short answer and essay but it's a 3000 level so that is to be expected. Would take again if I had the electives to. Also is the Grad adviser.
