The sweetest teacher ever. Really easy, very nice and so adorable. He will get you at least a B, no matter what! The only problem is, if you are an English major, you won't learn anything, but you take this class as a requirement, you HAVE TO TAKE HIM. Good grade guaranty!!!!

Mr. Brigstocke is a slow guy. He does not expain himself well for his assigments and then when you get your grade it's lower than you think. He is boring, but doesn't care what you do. Just do the work and the best you get the is B-. HE is ok .

i actually caught him falling a sleep in class during the summer session. he is quite the character. he actually scared someone into dropping the class by joking around. every english teach at SMC is pretty bad so a "B" wouldn't be all that bad either beacuse that is what you will get,trust me.

No matter what u do he will give u a B. Boring lectures, but he is nice if you need to postpone assignments. HW and class work is easy. For poetry lectures he lets his students analyze and read Jay-Z lyrics. I really liked tis guy, and it is basically a guranteed B.

He's nice to his students but his class is boring. If u want to indulge more sleeping time go ahead. But if you want a professor who's really rigorous and assertive, try a different one.

I took his class last semester. His class is stifling!!What he does in class is nothing but sit there and tell you to type your report. He also gives a lot of homework, 5 research paper in one semester. You have assignment to turn in everyday!!

If you want to learn something this is not the teacher you should choose. As many said, he just seats and let you type your essay. He does not teach anything and gives you a tones of homework. The class was just boring.

I had him for english 1 and the only reason I went to class was because I could sit on the internet all morning. If you want an easy class then his is the one to take as long as You are commited to the daily pointless work you get. But if you want to learn take someone else. His is a boring class!!! Horrible class if you want to improve your english skills. Says grades don't matter, didn't think he really meant it. Impossible A but realitively easy B or C. Easy grade, don't even have to try much at all. Write 5 papers beforehand and your set for the semester: compare and contrast MLA format... Just do everything on the syllabus and you're done

A nice man. A lot of writing but all the work is take home including tests so its a no brainer as long as you turn something in. Its an easy "B", a hard "A" but doable (he hardly gives A). You can get ahead as long as you follow the syllabus and have time to concentrate with your other class.You have to be dead to fail the class.

Hey this is a great teacher, his emphasis is on getting students to think for themselves and it is true that if you expect an "A" you are likely not to get one but you will do well in the class if you just have fun at everything you do and take part on group discussions don’t take his class if you have a big ego and no patience.

He is extremely clear about what he wants, although it takes some time to figure that out. He just want you to write as you. No manuals, no "rules". I think he believes that anyone has something add to the class, and that makes it very interesting. He does not mind as much an ugly typo as an robotic response.

This professor is not helping at all. He never tried to tach us. All he does in class is just sitting, or reading stuff. You have to work on your stuffs individually. Also, the requirement is not clear. Some students say easy B, and it might be true, but I cannot recommend him.

Many students take his class just becuase his class doesn't have so much stuffs. I also think his class was not so hard, but his assigbnment is not clear so it was annoying usually. Then you learn nothing. I regret taking his class. If you are lazy, take him and get B or C.

I thought he is an easy A or B teacher but i was wrong. I got an F. There is alot of work in his class. Like you have to turn in reponses every class then you have to explain in class what you write about the responses. If you are lazy and not doing your work please dont take his class.

I admit, his class does involve a lot of reading and writing, but his intentions are to get the students thinking and writing. I mostly got B-/C+ on the write-ups and essays, but did well on the final paper and test and ended up with an A. I hate writing (I'm a CS major) but managed to pull it off.

Do not take during summer. Take during the regular school year. You do not learn anything new in this class. Do the work and youll get an easy B. There is alot of work, but its not very hard. Be prepaired to read 4-5 books.

Brigstocke is of another era. As such he takes A LOT of getting used to. Non-native English speakers should avoid his classes. His comments are cryptic. Assignments due every class--always boring. He drones on while everyone does other work. If you are already a strong writer, you will do well; however, if you want help, I suggest another professor

I regret not listening to the comments below me.......he loves to give B's....i handed in all my work. and he kept giving me B's so what i did was for the last paper i handed a paper that i got revised four times...and one of the people that revised the paper was a english teacher in smc she told me it was for sure an A paper...i still got a b :(

People who mentioned about him not being clear-- just read the syllabus, everything is written in there. The books that he chooses are great books. If you put your effort into these books, you will become a critical thinker. I recommend this class for people love to write and who love to think.

Honestly he is too old to be teaching. Hes borderline senile. Knowbody in my class knew what he was talking about at the begining of class because the instructions on the board would usually relate to a class that was to occur a few weeks from then. Half the class was spent figuring out what the assignment was.

Chooses contemporary books and requires you to purchase them. Grades with mostly B's but look at the corrections he makes. If u don't make same mistakes on the next paper, you'll get an A. Class is interesting because literature is interesting. Don't need to come everyday. Sometimes difficult to understand, but ask ?'s after class, he explains.

When I went to class, I was sleeping and so was everyone else. It will bore you to death. He never gives A's on anything, though, only B's and C's. Lots of reading, but there are ways around doing it. He hardly ever takes attendance and accepts REALLY late work. I got a B and I was absent or sleeping through class half the time. Nice guy, take him!

Easy teacher. Helpful when you ask. Even though he isn't clear on things, just ask and he'll explain to you. Mostly B's and and C+'s, but the finals count the most. If you get an A on the final, and you've had B's on other homework, most likely, you'll get an A, like me! He's very leniant with make up work too.

Easy B, HARD A. final paper ended up being 18 pages double spaced. He's very helpful when you ask though. Take the class for an effortless B, but be prepared to work extremely hard for that A. I did =)

really nice guy.you have to buy his books,easy hw for each book.take home test for each book.2inclass papers(easy)and one term paper(about 15-20 pgs). class can get kinda boring but its easy if you just do the work when assigned. attendance is important.if you need help on clarifying something just ask him.

I'm enrolled in this class, it's weird cuz all I want is a B n he wont tell you what he focuses on; havent been doing responses for 1 of the 3 books, and got a D+ on my 1st take home test. If I get a B, take this class cuz I b.s'd everything. Also, its a great class for sleeping or doing homewrk for another class. No large textbooks either

If you want a super easy B, take his cass. If you want an A, you better work REALLY hard and then maybe he'll give you A- on your assignments. I tried hard and was able to get only B-, B, B+ and on the final paper he gave me A-, still got a B in the class. Since English is not my cup of tea, I was really happy with the grade.

I received a lot of B's on my work with a few A's and C's and missed a lot of class. I ultimately got an A in the class. I did most of my work in class on the computer. He doesn't ask for a lot and what he does require is straight forward and simple. Make sure you know your vocab for the final! Nice guy, interesting pieces to read.

I think he means well but is kinda old to be teaching. Material covered is good but I don't see why we go from APA to MLA format, makes more sense to get good at one instead of confusing students. I got a B, I think I deserved an A but whatever. He is good at replying to emails, I suggest that instead of office hours if you need help.

Taking this class now, have to read. Not a crazy overwhelming amount but fair. do the reading n daily asgnmt n youll b fine i think. not sure why i keep getting B's on my papers but I should b okay. I am very interested in the material he chose for us. I suggest to take him although it may b a lil boring just have an energizer drink. :)

Very good teacher but a hard class. The main thing you need to work on is reading comprehension. Interesting reading assignments and a fun class where you will learn a lot! Unclear sometimes--Pay attention! He usually don't repeat himself which can lead to confusion. But overall a very good teacher.

I loved this professor and this class! If you are the type of student who expects the teacher to hand everything to you, then you won't like it. As long as you are a proactive student, you will do well in this class. The course is not by any means difficult, but you have to actually do the work in order to do well. He is a very fair teacher and the reading he assigns is really interesting. He is very approachable, and helpful.

I love this professor. How can anyone hate him? He's such a sweet man. Trust me its not impossible to get an A, I got one. He's pretty easy except for the 10 page research paper, but you have to do that for almost every eng.1 teacher. LOVE HIM

U only need to do the final 4 assignments. He sends u an email literally saying u can have failed everything else and still ace it. The assignments are a 10 pg research paper u know about from day 1, a pack of vocab cards u make (1 a day all semester), an oral quiz on a couple of the cards, and a reading quiz. Super easy B, but little hard on essay

Great professor, I have taken English 1 and 2 with this teacher...He is very helpful with all of the readings that are required for the class... I would highly suggest to take this teacher espesially if you are transferring to a CAL State or a University...

every single class you have to hang in an assignment. plus there are 5 essayss that you have to do plusss tests plus a final plus a vocab final! we had to do 100 vocab cards throughout the semester and he only looked at like 5 of them. hard class. i did do all my hw and was in class everyday! i still got an A. hes very boring and not hepful

Really like this prof. He is very funny on a passive level and really tries to help you if you can't afford the books or if you don't understand something. Doesn't explain instructions as well as I would want but still have gotten A's on everything I've turned in! Great teacher, great literature, great class ! :)

He's an adorable old grumpy man. I find it funny how he sits in the back and randomly shouts words at us to wake the people that are sleeping. He is quite boring but a really really easy A. I recommend this class if you don't really want to pay attention in english but still pass. You just have to be really patient with him because he gets quick.

Professor Brigstocke is very nice and funny. He uses very interesting books. As for help, he wants students to use their brains and try to do something themselves and express their point of view. Very understanding and his assignments are very interesting

I love Prof. Brigstocke. I really do. He's very old school, but he's still a good teacher. He focuses a lot on technique! I received A's in both Eng.1, and 2 with him. I showed interest, and I wrote from my heart. If you write with passion, he'll see it :) He's great.

Professor Brigstocke's class is a super easy B if you do all the work. For an A, you must put in a lot of effort. He can be very boring at times and justs read the responses students do each day in front of the class. The only disappointment that I had was that I did not learn a single thing.

Really nice prof. Is boring at times but is willing to help and work with you. Summary responses, a couple papers, and a vocab card test. Easy class

Prof. Brigstocke is by my far my FAVORITE professor at SMC !!! Very sweet, pretty fair on grading.. English is my second language and I have no problems! Just do your work and you'll be fine ! I love him !!!!!!

He is a nice professor, but he does not give helpful feedback when you are unclear about an assignment. Also, he does not have a specific prompt so it is a bit difficult to comprehend what is asked. Overall, it's easy to get a B, but it is difficult to get an A. You are better off in a well structured English 2 course. Trust me! I regret it.

Really enjoyed taking his class. He's an extremely nice guy and easy grader. I did all my assignments in class before it was due and always got B's. getting an A is Extremely difficult as you don't know what he wants. LOTS OF READING! like 100 a day! Quizes you on about 5 words out of 100 that he has you define. Overall easy B hard A.

I love literature and I really enjoyed the books he assign but I don't feel I learned anything. If you want an easy professor then he is the guy for you.

Took this class during summer session. Instructions are set up clearly in the syllabus. We covered 4 books in 6 weeks. At least 35 pages of reading/day The class was interesting, chill and required a lot of work at home but at the end if you go thoroughly through it will get at least a B. Professor Brigstocke is a great guy and a good teacher KB

Been lucky to have prof. Brigestocke for winter 2013, 4 books to read, a lot of interesting reading, 5000 words can be split in any increments throughout the semester,he is a very interesting man,speaks turkish like a boss, very caring and attentive, best english 2 professor. Kottakon Raxmat professor!

Great Professor. The books we covered where very interesting. Assignments are clear and simple to understand. Very helpfull and gives slot of good feedback on paper drafts.

This class is easy as long as you do the work. He also accepts late work-- which causes students to slip a little, but don't. Make sure you do the papers and all the homework. Buy the books he requires because most of the homework revolves around his class. This should be an easy class for everyone.

Prof Brigstocke is a sweetheart. But this is just an easy class to balance out your college workload. Never learned a thing, just asked to write papers without knowing exactly what he was looking for. Always told to look things up on the internet if we were unclear of something. A lot of reading "required".aka enough to write a response

He is a nice teacher. You can never understand what he is saying, though. I actually have not read any of the text, really. I just researched online for plots. You just got to know your English papers before you enroll in his class. I mean, if you don't, you will have to satisfy with a B. Papers after papers. That was all...

Mr Brigstocke is great. I thought his syllabus was quite clear and he will answer any questions you have. Also he is a very fair grader bordering on easy. If you put in some effort and do all the work you will receive an A in the class without question. Great Professor, I am taking him next semester for English 2!

Honestly, this is the easiest English class ever! He doesn't believe in expensive books, so he uses remarkable story books, plays & poems. Brilliant! Just do ALL the work & you'll get an A for sure. If you can fail a super easy English class, then it's not the prof's fault. He's so friendly, funny & intelligent! I'm taking English 2 with him too!

Professor Brigstoke is such a nice teacher! He understood me so much, I let him know my struggles and weakness right away, he likes a student that brings personality and effort to his class! A lot of reading, 4 books to read, 5 essays, book test and vocab test is a must. Overall is a easy class .

I took his English 1&2 class & did my papers the last week of the semester...I never went to class- horrible, I know. I rarely did homework... and I got a B in the class. He accepts late work. He is really easy. The only annoying thing about his class are the "book tests" because there is ONE answer. Turn in your work & you'll be fine. (:

He's very kind and understanding. He doesn't like the way grades are used in school because he is more interested in helping his students learn and improve. He's easy to talk to and can be pretty fun. 3 research papers, 3 books tests, final on the books, and a vocab test. Not a difficult class at all. There was more discussion than teaching.

Well let me brake it down for you gentlemen and ladies. If you want to do nothing in the class and just be on your phone the whole time be my guess and take this class. Also if you don't want to learn anything this is your class. You can turn in late work. He doesn't interact with the students. He sits in the back of the class just talking jiberish

Just turn in everything and you will pass the class with a B. I say B because it very hard to get and A in his class. Literally everything you turn in is B depending on how long you right the essays he assigns. The good thing is that you don't have to worry about turning in assignments on time because you can turn it in late. He a cool person tho!

I loved Dr. Brigstocke! He is very funny, has a sharp sense of humor, and he chooses great books to read. I took him during the winter and received an A. Just do the work! A lot of my classmates didn't do all of the work, therefore their grade suffered.

Not very clear with instruction. Rather boring and quite repetitive. He is very intelligent and quite an interesting person to talk to but does tend to be awkward and strange. You sort of have to teach yourself in that he does not lecture, however, he assigns work based on new topics that he does not teach, so, expect to learn on your own.

Bad choice. I chose this professor because he gives many A's. But it was bad choice. He doesn't teach anything, and his voice is so hard to hear and understand what he's saying. He doesn't give you good feedback at all, and no matter how hard you put your effort to the paper the grades don't change much. I learned NOTHING from him.

was not clear at all on what the essays had to be written on, very very boring to listen to. Gave me a hard time when it came to attendance yet i only missed 1 class? turns out he got me mixed up with another student even though i talked to him every day because i sat by him. worst teacher.

I loved this professor. Yes I didn't learn anything new from him and all we did was write a 5,000 word paper (due at the end of the semester), write responses to our novels, and listen to him rant about the books but it wasn't a whole lot of work for me personally. I'll be taking him for English 2 in the Spring 2016. Just do your work & you'll pass

Professor Brigstocke is a funny, interesting, and clever man who may very well serenade the class or suddenly and boisterously shout to get your attention. He makes many demands of his students, though. You will be expected to read two to three novels during the semester and have many essays due based on them along with a 5000 word research paper.

When I was reading through his reviews on rate my professor I thought he would be a really easy teacher, but I was wrong. He really expects a lot for grading! Every response I did I got a B-, B, B+ and if you ask him how do you get a better grade on the responses he just says to try the best you can and the grade doesn't matter.

The class is called critical reading. The point of it is to make you think! He's not going to tell you how to think, so don't expect him to. He cares about the stories which are ultimately about people. Make sure you relate your life to the character you are reading about and tell him how you think and feel about it. There's your A!

Professor brigstocke is the most confusing teacher I've ever had. he has no criteria for grading. if you ask him for criteria he simply says do the best you can. His test are quotes but he literally doesn't give you any questions. In order to get an A with him you will have to suck up.

He's an older guy, which doesn't matter, but if you're looking for a teacher who will inspire or teach you, this isn't the class for you . He is nice and gives really easy homework. If you keep up with the reading, show up, and do your homework you'll get an A guaranteed. All tests and essays are at home and pretty routine.

Brigstocke is a good guy. There wasn't much to his class, just a fair amount of work. If you do your thing and get your work done, you will be fine. Figure it out, read the syllabus, and don't make a big deal out of it. He's chill, the class is chill, and it's pretty straightforward. Just do your work, don't be lazy.

This is the most confusing professor I've ever had. His class didn't seem difficult but he gives close to no instruction on anything. I emailed him constantly asking for clarity on things and he'd just say "do your best, grades don't matter" I juts didn't learn anything with his teaching style.

He is great but you have to be self-motivated and follow the syllabus, its not confusing once he explains it. He won't beg you to turn in papers so many people realized they were not going to pass and dropped late. Don't skip class as he takes attendance daily. He is hilarious and I would take him for another class.

Professor Brigstocke, despite some reviews is a great professor. He is from England and they do not believe in a grading system (you still get a grade), but he often refers to the fact that the American grading system is unfair. He grades you based one attendance, participation, and overall how you have improved. He also accepts late work!

Pretty boring class but I liked the fact that I didn't have to try to hard to get a B. He has about 6books and 6essays and 6 book tests. Their is a lot of work assigned but he lets you turn it in late. All of the tests are take home including the final. During class you don't need to pay attention so you can do other hw instead.

Read, read, read, and turn in everything he assigns. He probably won't give you many A's to begin with, but if you follow the syllabus and keep up with readings, you should be able to get an A or B in the class. He's not super strict about deadlines for papers, but definitely turn in all reading responses when they're due for an A.

Older Professor with a wealth of knowledge in his field. It's collegiate English so be prepared to Read and Write a lot. Daily 200-400 word essay. 3 papers 5 books, book test on each and a Final. Professor Jeremy is easy going and fun person. Accepts late homework and gives too many chances to turn in the work until the last day of class but the drill is turn in everything and is always available to help! Very knowledgeable and respected. I took him for ENG01 and ENG02. I would take him again? YES YES YES!!!

Took him both for English 1 and English 2. If you show him that you care about the class, then you will get an A. It's simple, you cannot trick him that you work hard while you slack off. Just read the assigned pages and submit a response in the beginning of class. Then when he calls on you, explain what you learned. Great professor!

His work is based upon 3 Research Papers, a bunch of Explanatory Responses, 4 Book Tests and 2 Final Exams (Book and Vocab). It might sound like a lot but he spreads them evenly. Put in effort and care into your work and hell care for you. Yes, you can actually turn in work late, about 2-3 weeks late. Ill definitely take his English 2 class.
