This is the best teacher I have ever had at WSU. He is awkwardly funny and a nerd, which makes you love his classes. All you need to do is take notes in class, no book required. Best teacher ever!
Jeremy Bryson was a great teacher and awkwardly funny! He really loves what he does and, at the same time, understands it's a gen ed class so he does his best to keep it interesting. Never used the book and attendance isn't mandatory. Show up, take notes, read the documents he posts on canvas and you are good to go. Easy and interesting A.
Amazing teacher, probably the best at Weber State. He is a funny dude and very awkward as well. Class is 4 exams that are very easy if you take notes in class. Do not buy the book! Also you will have some easy map and reading quizzes.. easy A though!
Overall, he's a great teacher. He obviously loves his job and the subject he teaches. His presentations and lectures are clear, and you can review them online after he's taught them. Just read assigned articles, come to class, and you'll succeed.
Jeremy Bryson is a very awkwardly funny guy. However, he does have a lot of reading. Each class he makes you read new articles outside of class that can be up to 20 pages long. He also has map quizzes every other week and reading quizzes every week with some other assignments throughout the semester. He makes class fun but his tests are difficult..
Dr. Bryson is a very smart and knowledgeable man in the geography field. He was pretty funny and tried to get the class involved in everyday lectures. However, there was a lot of homework. Every day there was a reading assignment and most were lengthy. Reading quizzes every week and a map quiz every other week.
He is a nice guy. New to teaching. He makes you do a lot of very dry reading and tests you on a small percentage of the reading. Exams are done in the testing center and if you don't do a lot of studying you will not do well. The exams are confusing and not well written. Not recommended.
Who made these ratings? They do not describe the class I took. This class was difficult and involved reading a lot of material like statistical charts and badly written articles like "The World Is Flat." Most of the reading was irrelevant and not in the tests.
He was a nice guy and knew a lot about Geography, but his course was very hard. The exams were poorly written and I had no idea what I was supposed to study. We had to read 25-30 page articles every day and at the end of the week we had a quiz of only five questions. Extremely hard to know how to prepare. I would NOT recommend this course.
I really liked Dr. Bryson and he made the subject really interesting. Lectures were filled with interesting ideas. Tests were challenging but I guess that's the point of a test. Overall, nice guy, good class.
I absolutely loved Dr. Bryson! He lectures at a slow pace so you do not get behind. No textbook. There are daily readings and some assignments, but nothing that's not manageable. His tests aren't too difficult. I recommend showing up for class as much as possible. I'm not sure why everyone found this class so hard. Maybe they didn't show up?
He was a very nice teacher and way helpful. His tests are kinda tough but if you study and go over his study guides you'll do fine. He made it fun to learn and I would definitely take his class again.
Fantastic Professor. Geography was my minor entering the class. Now it is a second Major. This guy was funny, smart, and gave us all the info needed for test. Very interesting class. I loved attending. Very well thought out and organized. Highly recommend him!
He is a really nice professor. I didn't study hard, but also received a B+
This guy is a good teacher with a great class. as long at you look at the class schedule ahead of time, you're fine. You can do assignments as early as you want. You don't have to come in Wednesdays so take this as your first class of the day! instead, you just watch a documentary and write about it! Fairly easy and very interesting.
Dr. Bryson is actually a great teacher. He expounds on the information, and everything he talks about is actually on the exams. He expounds on the criteria that he wants you to know for sure as well. he lets you take a cheat sheet with you into the testing center too, so that helps too. He just has you read a lot which actually helps understand
Here is the thing about this class, you have to try. It's not a class that you can just review before a test or quiz and pass. For his material you have to study the material in order to get a good grade, and your assignments either save you or kill you. My problem with the class is that it was boring and there isnt anything to motive you to go.
Every week you have a discussion project, reading test (10 minutes for three answers), and a paper usually on a video. There is a midterm quiz and a final quiz. He leaves study notes to go over which are basically the same questions asked in lectures, etc. Study those notes and you will do fine on the tests. Answers e-mail fast. great guy.
Dr. Bryson's class was great. You can tell he's really excited about geography, which definitely makes it easier to go to class. Lots of reading, but I thought it was mostly pretty interesting. I'd recommend this class to anyone.
This class was a fun class. I learned a lot, he is a great teacher, he isnt harsh on grading, his quizzes are easy, his tests arent terribly hard, you dont even need a textbook, and its just a fun class. I would take this class again.
This class isn't in my major, but I love it! He is passionate about what he teaches, and he gives the class fun opportunities to apply what we're learning (field trips!). Tests are few but tough. Gives tons of real-world examples in lectures. SUPER nice guy. Totally different then what I'm majoring in, but I recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Bryson was an amazing teacher that took a subject I wasn't really into, and made it a very entertaining subject.
Dr. Bryson is a good professor and I enjoyed the class. He doesn't require a textbook and gives you readings/videos online. There are 5 exams, a few map quizzes, extra credit opportunities, and a few documentaries (which I really enjoyed.) If you don't stay up on the readings or come to class, you will struggle, but if you do it's not a hard class.
Prof Bryson is awesome! I loved his class and he made it super easy! He knows his stuff, and he is very willing to work with you to help you understand everything. If you need a Geography class, take it from him! You won't regret it!
He is a great Professor. He really knows his stuff and tries to make it interesting. He does know it is a general education class and not everyone wants to be there and tries to appeal to all.
Good class fairly easy with plenty of opportunities for extra credit.
It was the best online class I've ever had. He doesn't require a text-book and has you watch documentaries instead that are very interesting. The test's are pretty hard but if you do the homework, lectures, and documentaries you can still get an A without studying much for the test's.
The class I took was a hybrid class, and I have no complaints for most of the work he gives us, except that he makes us watch costly documentaries for a grade that usually are not free. Not only that, they are usually up to two hours long, and if you work and go to school, it crowds your time.
He was very interesting and knew what he was talking about. We discussed all of the continents around the world. 4 map quizzes- available any time, lecture/reading quizzes- open book, and exams- pretty average. He does give study guides which do help a lot. No book, but you have documentaries to watch which if you don't have Netflix cost money.
I took his hybrid class and don't regret a thing. He never assigned essays, nor gave pop quizzes. NO TEXT BOOK REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS. Professor Bryson is very organized. I knew exactly what I had to do every week. He is very kind to his students and thoughtful of their needs. The class itself is very interesting , informative and fun.
Lots of documentaries and reading articles, but usually it's interesting and I enjoy doing the homework. A good teacher.
This professor is one of the best ones I've ever had. Even if you don't have any interest in Geography and are just taking it for the credit, the professor makes every point of discussion interesting and engaging. Homework is pretty light and easy. Professor can be contacted outside of class hours and responds timely. Absolutely recommended.
Dr. Bryson is a great professor, he is one of my favorites at Weber State. It is an extremely easy class, I passed with an A. You don't have to go to class, but it does help, the lectures are really interesting. Very little Homework. I highly recommended taking his class. Great for General Ed.
Only downfall is the tests. They are pretty hard. He budges very little on the grading, no curve, class averages in the 65-70% range. Daily readings online. Lectures are interesting. Take every opportunity for extra credit. A good class to take for generals, just know that he is out to trick you on most tests.
I felt this professor was quite liberal. Not necessarily a bad or good trait, I just wish I would have known ahead of time. Large focus on world events, poverty, and populations. Spent a good portion on climate change. His 4 tests are tough, most students get around 60%. Interesting documentaries and readings, lots of discussions. No textbook.
This class is very hard! If you miss class you wont pass!! There is no textbook and you have to take notes on his whole lectures because you never know whats going to be on the test. He expects to much from his students and most people did bad on his tests. His tests are hard and his study guides are super long. I would not recommend this course!!!
An awful teacher, does not care about his students, only cares what his peers think of him. Stated that if to many people passed his class his peers would say his class was to easy.
I honestly thought Professor Bryson was a great teacher. His tests were not that tough, so I don't understand why people are complaining about it. The study guides were extremely helpful! The subject itself is interesting and his lectures really helped with fully understanding the course.
Loved his online class! The lectures were great and the documentaries he has you watch are very informative. Although there is not textbook for the class he has you read articles pertaining to the unit you are studying. Lots of reading and note taking from his lectures but worth it. Great instructor!
I absolutely loved taking this class! Dr. Bryson is a very organized teacher that responds quickly to emails, and gives very informative lectures. He provides questions at the beginning of each lecture so that you can gather all of the info. that you will need for the tests. His tests are difficult, especially if you don't prepare for them.
I had a really hard time with this class. I took it hybrid, which meant I had to watch hours upon hours of videos he had made of himself talking, on top of weekly documentaries. The worst part, however, was his tests. I had a really hard time with them. I would study for hours, and still only get 80's. He really tries to trip you up with them.
Jeremy Bryson was a great professor with very clearly grading criteria. He had very detailed and helpful study guides for all of the test, nothing in the class came as a surprise to me. His lectures were always very interesting. The only negative is that you have to watch a few long (boring) documentaries on your own time, but nothing too awful.
I would definitely recommend taking this class! 2-3 lectures per week, usually 40 mins each, easy to take notes on. Articles with each unit-I usually just skim those. 13 documentaries and discussions. Easy. Weekly quizzes (5 pts each) lowest 2 scores dropped 4 exams (50 pts each) helpful study guides. Do them and you'll be prepped for exams!
He is really nice and he outlines the class very well for it being online, theres multiple video lectures a week, a reading quiz every week, and weekly discussions. The discussions are typically a documentary you have to watch. The lectures were long and boring and the discussions were also boring. Tests are pretty hard so make sure you study!
The reason this class is so hard is because everything you do for a grade is worth hardly any points. Everything except tests, that is. Most assignments are worth under 5 points, with a few worth 10. The tests are worth 50 points, though. I am not a good tester, so even though I studied and did all of the assignments, I ended up with low grades.
Class was reliant upon video lectures and readings. Lots quizzes and required documentary discussions, but they're easy and there's a consistent pattern to them. Good professor, knows what he's talking about and wants his students to succeed.
Dr. Bryson is an excellent professor. He has developed the lectures to coincide with the study guides for each test in chronological order. He brings an excitement to the material that makes you want more. The only way someone would not get an A in this class was if they did not take notes, watch the lectures or participate in class.
Dr. Bryson's online course was not only very entertaining, it was well created, up to date and incredibly informative. I enjoyed every second of his class!!
Great professor. Gives lots of opportunity for credit. Really great lectures to listen to. Be aware your free response scores on exams my reflect your attendance.
Great professor! does a lot of good things and his lectures are great. There is a lot of reading and a bit of homework but its not too bad. I would recommend him to anyone though I have enjoyed his class
Dr. Bryson is a nice guy. But that's about the extent of it. He is almost impossible to contact him outside of class. His tests are designed for you to fail. He has video discussions about once a week. Reading/lecture quizzes once a week too. You will read a lot of articles. The study guides for the tests help, but only enough to get you a C.
Dr. Bryson is an excellent prof and was the reason I changed my minor to Geography. Nothing but good things to say about him, yet there are no assignments that are worth that much so EVERY assignment matters. If you miss some or do not get full credit you will start to feel it. Pay attention to essay questions! Because he grades those strictly.
No textbook required. You have to watch a documentary every week and reading response. I did a weeks worth of homework in about 5-6 hours one day a week. Test are overly complicated.
Dr. Bryson is a great professor! He is a really funny guy so that made his lectures more interesting. Assignments aren't worth many points but I would recommend doing all of them because if you miss a few, it will really start impacting your grade negatively. Exams are just like the study guides that he posts on canvas.
This is a great and interesting class. Dr. Bryon is passionate and really makes you think. I really enjoyed this despite it being a little hard. Definitely, don't go into this class thinking it will be an easy A. There is a quiz and discussion post every week on the lectures and reading. There are 4 exams with a study guide. Great class!
The professor was not reachable outside of class. He does not respond to emails. He gives small quizzes from a whole week worth of material. Tests are taken at the testing center and the multiple choice questions are made to trip you up. There are few points so EVERYTHING counts.
Great Professor! He cares about what he teaches. Yes it is a hard class and you have to work hard but youll learn SO much. Great lectures! Do the work, study hard, and youll Be fine!
This was a great class, and a great instructor. He took the time to make great lecture videos that really helped me out rather than just reading a textbook. The amount of work was not out of the ordinary, and it was not difficult. Watch his lectures, do the posted readings and you will be fine. Also very interesting material. He is a nice guy.
Professor Bryson was an excellent teacher. He was respectful and caring towards the students and he was always willing to help any student who had questions. It's important to go to the lectures because you will do better on the tests. Not too much homework, light reading, overall a great class.
Loved this class, Dr. Bryson gives a great sum up of all relevant events in the recent past to the near future. There are few points, but they are easy points to earn, it pretty much only requires that you to understand his lectures. He also assigns readings, some of which are important to the grade, other are just additions to help it stick.
His hybrid class was nice but his youtube lectures are way too long. The class was only 3 credit hours even though you would spend 3-4 hours a week just doing his online lectures, then 1 hour in class once a week. His lectures are great and easily remembered during a test, just way too long. Also his tests are pretty hard but he's a great teacher.
Great class, well planned to learn and understand a lot of interesting, relevant, useable world information. Tests and assignments are challenging but an A is easily earned if you do the work.
LECTURE HEAVY! if you are considering taking this class online please keep in mind that his lectures range from 3-5 hours each week. Included in those lectures you are required to watch documentaries that are 1 hour long each. Some weeks I spent 7+ hours in this class. He is a tough grader. He isn't kind when you get poor grades in his class.
Jeremy was a good professor, although I fell asleep to his lectures a couple of times. They are a little longer than they need to be, I usually put the videos on 1.5 speed to get through them a little faster. You have to take a decent amount of quiz's and tests. I would take this class again because it is really interesting to learn about the world
Lots of discussion posts and map quizzes. Google map quizzes of that area and practice. You may have to pay for movies/videos to watch. Before paying for a movie, check if it's on Netflix or YouTube first. Tricky wording on tests and lots of essay questions. TAKE NOTES ON EVERYTHING. Course is more of like a human geography class.
Professor Bryson was the best! He really made me think about the world. He made things interesting and he was just entertaining. Attendance is not part of your grade but I would still go. His class is fun so it will make you want to go. It's relatively easy. The study guides point out exactly what you need to know on the test.
Bryson cares about his students, and is a fairly easy professors. The setup of this class is kind of confusing at first, but you don't have to do every project listed. He grades fairly easy, but hardly ever gives full credit on exam questions. Class is fun, but not always focused. I would take his classes again.
Loved his class. He really puts a lot of effort into his online lectures to keep them entertaining and up to date. He leaves feedback on every assignment and is easily accessible to talk to outside of class. Exams are a little tough but if you listen to every lecture you shouldn't have a problem passing whatsoever. Overall he is a great professor!
Dr. Bryson hasn't updated his Geog 3640 lectures for a few years (2017, really), which is probably the only true constructive feedback I'd give him. Other than that, it's paramount that you take notes through the videos, online textbook, articles, ect.; If not, you'll be at a loss during the tests which are essay heavy. Material is very interestin
Great Professor! Long lectures but the lesson stays with you.
This was my favorite class the entire semester. He really cares about what he is teaching and keeps the information very interesting.
I've taken several classes from Prof. Bryson- he has made me fascinated by geography. He's fun, knowledgable, & willing to work with you if you just communicate with him. The lectures and course materials are informative & interesting. Very well organized and some of the best online classes I have taken. I have enjoyed learning SO MUCH from him.
This class was very well organized. Professor did a great job with lectures and information was up to date. Weekly quizzes and 3 unit tests. Read the material and do the work and you will do fine. I enjoyed the class and was not overwhelmed at all.
Professor Bryson truly cares about his students!! He goes above and beyond with his teaching lectures. He has you watch a weekly lecture and participate in a weekly discussion. Some of his lectures are lengthy and he does have you watch a few films. As long as you participate he is an easy grader. I would definitely take a class from him again!
Probably one of my favorites so far! Lectures are so amazing, and he really understands the subject he is teaching. Hopes the best for students and sets them up for success. Gives test reviews that are almost exactly like tests, and tries to make the material interesting. If you try you will pass.
He is probably one of the nicest professors that I ever had at Weber!
His online class is set up so that there is no blowing through it, there is a strict schedule to follow. Weekly quizzes from lectures and weekly discussions based off of documentaries. All assignments are only worth 5-7 points. If you don't like prerecorded lectures (multiple per week, 1 hour+) this is not the class for you. Tough grader on tests.
Dr. Bryson is a top notch professor. I took the GEOG1300 class online and I throughly enjoyed his class. His lectures were fun and educational. If I had to give any constructive criticism, I would say he could ramble less during his lectures. If you listen to the lectures, do the reading, and participate in the weekly discussion, you will ace it
There are 1-3 lectures a week to watch that range from 40-110 mins long. Each week there is a quiz on Thurs and a discussion question on Fri. Both reflect the lectures and readings for the week. You could probably get away without the textbook, but quizzes and tests are open books, open notes. So I would recommend it. He provides study guides.
This is an easy A, but there is a LOT of work. Lectures can be almost 2 hours long sometimes. Weekly lecture, textbook reading, discussion, quiz, and more readings. As long as you do the work it is super easy. There is just a ton of it. Make sure you dont procrastinate or else you are screwed. I would happily take a class from him again. Nice guy!
This class is easy if you do the work, which there is a lot of. Do not procrastinate! It is all super easy material and assignments, but long and tedious. His exams and quizzes are all open notes/open book. His lectures are very straight forward, sometimes really long. Overall he is a super nice teacher and I would take his class again.
Was very lecture heavy. This class required a lot of work, do the work and watch all the lectures and you will pass. He gives amazing lectures, but they are very long, Plan on 4-5 hours each week for his class. I would take another class from him again.
Don't hesitate to take Prof. Bryson! His lectures are very entertaining, and easy to understand. He does everything in his power to help you understand and pass the class. I felt there was a lot of homework compared to my other General Ed classes, with around 2 hours a week. I always looked forward to his class! Ask Q's! His feedback is hilarious!
Loved this class and what he had to offer. Loved how the class was structured and how assignments worked. Class was pretty lecture, exam and, quiz heavy but if you show up and listen you will do great. Would recommend Bryson!
One of the best classes I've ever taken!! Prof. Bryson is flexible, understanding and holds great class sessions! I never got sick of the zoom classes because he keeps everyone engaged and isn't just lecturing the whole time. Unique material and assignments every week. If you read/ watch the material and turn assignments in you'll easily pass!
Really great class with lots of interesting and current material, taught by someone who is knowledgeable and engaging.
LOVE him! I took his class online and it was insanely easy. His lectures are pre recorded and posted to canvas but all I did was take notes on the important parts and the rest of the assignments were a breeze! His quizzes and exams are all online! No proctorio which was amazing! Youll definitely pass with an easy A
I took the hybrid course so we went to class twice a week and had one video lecture to watch a week. we also had a discussion (usually an hour+ video to reply to) and a quiz due each week. didnt grade for attendance but you have to do the stuff at home if you want a chance to pass.
Jeremy was a great professor. Lots of lectures but that's what made the class so engaging for me. I enjoyed how he broke down the subjects through graphs and videos showing real world examples of the things we were discussing. Overall a great course.
I enjoyed going to his class, he made them fun and interesting. He's passionate about the topics. There's a lot of reading, but if you stay on top of them, they aren't difficult. He assigns a lot of documentaries, but they were interesting and the prompts were easy to respond to. I tend to procrastinate, but I still did well in this class.
Lectures are actually worth watching tests are very easy and gives good feedback some assignments do take a bit of time but are still very easy
Dr. Bryson is amazing. His class is structured nicely and the lectures are very intriguing. He makes geography fun to learn about. Each week you read articles, watch lectures, take a quiz, and participate in a discussion. There are 3 exams and you get to use notes, he provides great feedback and is accessible.
As someone who is not big on Geog I was still able to follow along just fine. Follow the schedule he suggests or else you will end up doing everything on the weekends (doable but not fun). The lectures were as entertaining as they could be given they were online. Some of the lectures are a little old (2+ yrs) which is strange, but still okay.
Professor Bryson has a lot of homework due during the week, but if you keep up on it and watch the lecture videos you will pass this class with an A. I loved this class.
The lectures could be a little long and dry, but I feel it didn't take me much effort to get a good grade in this class. His guidelines and expectations were clear and his grading was very fair. I had a half-semester class with him and it was very manageable.
This class was online and was coursework was a few lectures, readings, quiz and sometimes a discussion board. A pretty easy class and if you take notes from the slides, you'll do well on the exams. Each week it took about 2 hours to complete so beware of that. Simple course, would take again.
There were a lot of videos to watch of his lectures but his lectures were phenomenal. As long as you carve out time to watch and take notes you'll do just fine.
He is good but it is an online class so of course there is a lot of homework. Also it was a second block class so that didn't help with the homework. about 4 hours of lectures and 3-4 hours of reading and other assignments. But beware I am a slow reader.
Dr. Bryson showed me how interconnected we are to our country, human activities, and global affairs. Global Issues really proved to me that we as humans are not exempt from the consequences of our actions. The lectures shook me to the core. The documentaries were fun. He also gave great info when I emailed him questions.
Dr. Bryson is the man. He is very caring and makes a potentially boring subject interesting, He is passionate about Geography which makes his class awesome! he really mixes up the class, there are group projects that are involved but they are not hard. He is approachable and gives good feedback. I highly reccomend taking his class!
Very nice teacher. Graded easy and his exams are open notes.
Professor Bryson is a great teacher, his lectures are engaging and well thought out, you can tell he loves teaching. He gives great feedback. Homework and weekly quizzes are easy, but exams were tough, even thought they were open note/book. I would take his class again though because he was so passionate and caring, unique for an online class.
This class is easy if you take the time to actually do the work. His grading is very arbitrary and he will take off points with no explanation why. This is a class that you cannot fall behind on since it is taught in one block and is accelerated. Put his videos at 2.5x speed he talks very slow.
Professor Bryson's class was engaging and informative. The lectures and documentaries really brought the course material to life. While it had a decent workload, using unstuck AI alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of things and earn a solid grade.
He is great. I would recommend. He tries to make the lectures interesting. This class is easy if you take the time to actually do the work. He is a fair grader, and if you have any questions about your grade he is happy to talk about it with you. The quizzes are open note. He is really passionate about geography. He is really good to work with.
I took Dr. Bryson's online Geography of Utah and the American West and found myself deeply involved in the modules and lecture material. He was engaging and had great sources and assignments that didn't feel like busy work and actually helped me learn. 100% would take a class from him again.
Great and super accommodating professor. Along with this, you should know this class is a lot of work! You are required to go through 5-8 different lectures that took me 2.5 hours a day at least. At the end of each week you watch a movie long documentary and have a class discussion.
He is a great professor. This class was pretty easy, but there was a lot of homework, so don't procrastinate on assignments. The lectures can be very long, but they are interesting. The quizzes, assignments, and exams are easy, and the exams are open note. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
Disorganized but easy. Doesn't explain reasoning for docking points. Docks seemingly random points even if you answer questions with his definitions (exams are open note so at least they're easy). Some answers weren't mentioned at all between assigned ppts or assigned articles. Also there was a miserable documentary that didn't need to be assigned.
This course is mainly professor made lectures (updated back in 2022 it seems), article readings and documentaries. This material is quizzed on and is open book. His lectures I found super interesting and easy to listen to, notes are unavoidable. Lessons involve a lot of global economy, grading can be vague even if you took straight from the notes
Easy. Lectures were easy to understand. Course was laid out well and organized. I also learned alot of things in today's world that I didn't know before.
Despite being a half semester class, I found the workload very manageable. I found the videos of him going over the slides and information extremely helpful. He was very nice, and I found the class very interesting overall!
