He was an extremely difficult professor, especially when compared to other sections. While he attempted to provide aid, his strong foreign accent ruined any chance of helpfulness.
Dr. Chandler is awesome to look at during class, but don't get too distracted. His tests are tricky, take your time on them. Studying is definitely a must. Dr. C is funny, but also likes to give clicker quizzes. Doesn't matter if you come to class or not, you can be present get all the clicker questions wrong ahem, like me so read
He goes through 70 power point slides each class and doesn't care about the students failing the class. The tests cover ridiculous amounts of material and he makes them unreasonably hard and confusing. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!
Clicker points help bring up grade if you attend class. Tests are extremely hard. He moves quickly through power points during lectures so you have to go back and take notes outside of class. Go pick up your tests after you take them!! Final is 75% questions from previous tests and 25% material from the last chapters.
The clicker questions count for attendance and quiz grades, so it is necessary to attend. The tests are so-so, but as long as you read and get engaged with the material then you will be fine. There is also online homework, but they are very reasonable.
Chandler was a great professor. His explanations were great, and his lectures were definitely not boring. He gets you involved and gives great demonstrations that are full of humor. I would take him over and over again for Micro classes. He's a great down to earth young professor.
Easy going professor. He has an odd sense of humor and makes the class pass creepy stuffed animals around the room a lot. This made everyone somewhat uncomfortable. If you take notes from the power points and listen to lectures, the book is not a must. The tests are few and fairly easy. He counts clicker points so attendance matters.
A lot of information given and tests can be very difficult. Tons of clicker questions. He is super funny, really enthusiastic, knows a lot about it, and does lots of helpful demonstrations during lectures. Really cute, would definitely have him again!!
His lectures are pretty long, but they are entertaining. They're 50-70 slides each, so reviewing for exams is tough. If you're okay without a study guide or a sample exam, you would do fine, but there is so much material when you combine the lectures and the book. His exams are really hard because his q's are so specific and oddly worded.
He is a good professor. Lectures are somewhat lengthy and he jumps around a lot but defiantly knows what he is talking about.
He puts lots and lots of information on each powerpoint. The tests cover multiple chapters so studying for them takes a long time. He is very nice and out going but his questions are worded weird. There are no study guides or practice tests so its really up to you to know the material. Nice guy but you have to work for it.
Chandler's lectures are long and filled with too much information to comprehend at the speed at which he conducts class. You barely have time to write/type a sentence before he moves on to the next slide. This makes it tempting to not pay attention but you kinda have to because he grades clicker points for accuracy.
This class has been my favorite so far. Dr. Chandler made it really interesting and fun. You definitely have to study by going over old notes, quizzes, and the book. The lab section can also really help your grade. Take him!
Best teacher I've had at UT so far. He cares about his students and makes the class fun and interesting. His lectures are anything but boring and his teaching style is great. He is funny and easy to listen to
Goes extremely fast during lecture but is super helpful. The textbook and online book are essential for doing well in the class. The final is composed of almost all old test questions and he only counts 50 of your clicker points. He's hilarious too.
At the end of the semester he put our online homework in as a completion grade, and was easy with clicker grading. You need to study for the tests but I got B's on pretty much all four and ended with an A!
Chandler was always available to give help if you asked. There was always group work in class that you had to turn in for completion grades. There are no study guides so studying can be challenging.
Dr. C is a very funny guy! I loved him for 220! Don't bother with the book; just PAY ATTENTION in class and take notes over slides. Exam are very easy if you study the slides thoroughly and take good notes. Don't miss class as most of the exam comes from his mouth. Primarily MC exams with some short answer (easy if you study). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Lots of clickers and group work in class. Don't skip. No study guide for the tests. Lots of free response questions on exams. Would not recommend unless you enjoy teaching yourself the material.
I have taken Dr.C for 101 and 102, and I would not take anyone else for gen ed biology! Always willing to meet and explain anything unclear. The second test is usually the toughest, but the final will help your grade if you study past test questions. Interesting lectures most of the time. You can miss up to 5 times without it counting against you
Chandler was a pretty good professor but was way too hard for the material being taught. The tests were basically random things he said in class and from the mastering bio hw. Don't go in expecting an easy A because you have to work for it. Spends way too much time in class going over pointless things and calling on people. Overall, decent.
Chandler is a super nice professor and is always willing to sit and talk with you if you need anything. He does do clickers for points and attendance. His lectures are essentially his exams. The book is pointless. There is ALOT of material that is all memorization for his exams, and it is a lot more than you would expect for a 2 hour credit class.
Mr. C was so rad. He is just overall a great lecturer and really cares about making Bio easy to understand. He is dorky cute and definitely is easy to talk to. Tests are hard but if you go talk to him about them or do the homework you will be fine. Would take again, and that's coming from someone who hates science.
I LOVED Dr. Chandler. Favorite professor at UTK so far. Try not to skip because he is VERY clicker heavy, but the clicker questions rarely counted for accuracy. Besides clickers there are only tests and online homeworks, so keep up with the homework and study before the tests and you should be fine. Not hard info. Labs are also super easy!
He goes so fast in lecture that you can't possibly keep up and doesn't post the powerpoint until after. The tests are worded different than his teaching styles, which is so annoying. He's an interesting lecturer and makes dad jokes the whole time. Not terribly hard but not the best.
Jeremy is a great guy! Goes very fast in his lectures though, so I've stopped trying to take notes. I study his power points and make quizlets off of everything on them. Very clicker heavy. Precious man, but he just reads his slides rather than teaching them. Gotta work for your A.
Great professor and is entertaining. Do NOT take it early in the morning you will skip and fall asleep. Clicker question are crucial! Tests are not too difficult, just require studying. Find old tests to help you out. If you have problems or want to talk about your grades he is available, just remember he has a life and family too.
Talked far too deeply into things for the course he was teaching - intro to bio. Seemed friendly and was funny, but it was very difficult to understand his content in class. He always had 50+ slideshows he flew through each class and i can honestly say the majority of the info was just excess information and wasn't on most of our tests.
Nice guy, but I feel like he made this course way harder than necessary. It is a 101 course for non-majors and it is A LOT of information. Exams are pretty hard, make sure you study a week+ in advance if biology isn't your forte. Attendance not "mandatory" but clicker grades pretty regular.
Dr. C is a great guy and always willing to help. If you take advantage of his office hours and show concern about your grade and improvement, this course will work out in your favor.
Professor Chandler is likable as a person, he's super funny and he looks like Jesse Eisenberg but his class is very hard. I could study for days and still make C's and D's on tests. Class wasn't technically mandatory but skipping won't do you any favors. Professor is easily accessible. Just be prepared to give a lot of time to this class.
Dr. Chandler was my favorite professor I have had so far at UT. He always made that extra effort to make us laugh and knew his material very well. He posts all of his lectures online, so if you miss class it isn't a huge deal- but with him, you'll want to go! His tests are hard and you'll really have to study, but it is well worth the time.
Loved Dr. Chandler!! You can really tell how passionate he is about teaching and his students. Definitely recommend his class.
his lectures are way too fast- don't even try to take notes. like seriously... 100 slide powerpoints within an hour and 15 minutes???? not possible. i ended up with an A- and he totally gave it to me bc i deserved a B (not complaining). he's not a bad teacher and he's nice/funny he just went way too fast during class. no study guides for tests
Prof Chandler flies through his lectures so (to have any sort of understanding on the material) go back through them on blackboard - he posts them all. Exams are not that difficult, and it is very easy to make an A in lab. He is a hilarious professor and makes learning biology as fun as it can be!
Dr. Chandler loves what he does, but has no idea what he's doing. He is extremely unorganized, posts his PowerPoints late, takes forever to respond to emails, and does not allow time to take notes in class. Regular exams are nearly impossible to study for, but save your exams and study off of them for the final. Lab was my biggest grade booster.
He was my favorite teacher this semester. I had him at 8 am and I hate biology, but he was still able to make the class fun! I would recommend going to office hours and getting to know him. Because students that he sees trying he really tries to help understand the material better. All around great teacher!
Dr. Chandler is a great professor if you pay attention and actually try. He goes really fast through powerpoints, so it's hard to take notes. I did most of my note-taking after class when he posts the powerpoints online. I recommend going to office hours and getting to know him. He likes to know his students care and it puts you on his radar.
Dr. Chandler reminds me of your average cool high school science teacher in the way that he loves what he teaches and has not (yet) lost his passion for teaching. Though his lectures can be pretty long, he tries to make them as engaging as possible. He goes through slides pretty fast, but always posts them online afterward which saved me for tests
He's so funny. Lectures are always entertaining and he is great one on one as well.
Jeremy is a funny guy and tries to make class relatable to college students! He makes lectures somewhat interesting. There's a TON of group work in lecture though. He is clicker heavy too, so skipping class is not smart. Some of the lab TA's can ruin your grade though.
Professor Chandler is the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are always entertaining and he's incredibly enthusiastic. Clickers are worth 50/800 points, but he offers around 80 clicker points, so skipping class every once in a while won't hurt you too bad. Seriously, take Dr. C!!!!
Great professor, very fun and enthusiastic. The work is hard, but if you let him know you're struggling he is happy to help. Also, brings his dog into class
Lectures went super fast and threw out a lot of information. His tests were kinda hard and it was hard to study for them. powerpoint are posed online so once you get your clicker points, you'll be able to skip more. takes a long time to grade stuff.
Dr. Chandler really is a great professor, he enjoys the content he teaches and he genuinely cares whether or not his students are learning/understand, and he's funny. As far as attendance, he uses a clicker system for participation points, but really you'll want to attend because the majority of exam content comes from what he says in the lecture.
Dr. C was one of the best professors I had this year. He is hilarious and caring. He really wants to see his students not only pass, but also genuinely understand coursework. He is lecture-heavy, but not necessarily in a bad way. Overall he's a very understanding professor.
This class was pretty easy overall. However, Dr. Chandler's tests are very difficult to study for because his lectures cover so much information and go so fast. Uses the same tests every year so if you can find those you're gold. Clicker participation but only 50 points required. Hilarious dude and makes class fun
Dr. Chandler is a great person. His classes are lecture heavy and there are a lot of in class assignments. The tests are a little difficult because you have to apply the material instead of just regurgitating it.
Dr. Chandler really cares about the students and making class interesting. My advice would be to go to lectures, participate, and really study the slides (especially the "Objective" slides) before exams. If you do that, you really should be fine. It has been my favorite class at UT so far.
If you have to take Biology, take it with Chandler! I do not like Biology but he made my 8 am class fun and engaging. Complete homework and lab assignments and he will round them up to 100% if they're done well. Study for tests!!! They are not super hard but they do need to be studied for a few days in advance. He even brought his dog to class once
Dr. Chandler was a pretty good professor. I didn't go to every lecture, but I did enjoy how engaging and humorous he was. Make sure you study for the exams- you won't pass otherwise. I used the homework and class quizlets to study for them. The labs were the most difficult part- sometimes the TA's don't give clear grading criteria.
Jeremy is awesome. He makes the class really simple and easy to understand. He's also really goofy and it's a fun class. He brings his dog sometimes too! Tests and homework were easy, definitely take bio with Jeremy!
He was very intelligent but could not relay information to students. He is funny but the class is very lecture heavy and can become very boring. I would not mind having him again but I would not voluntarily take him.
I loved taking Dr. Chandler for both Bio101 and Bio102. He cares about his students and makes class engaging and fun. He gives good feedback and is very accessible outside of class. He's adorable and I lowkey want to marry him tbh.
AMAZING and a hottie for sure. He'll have you laughing all lecture and is such a sweetheart. Plenty of extra credit and incredibly understanding. Attendance is only mandatory once you hit 100 clicker points. Also, every exam is on quizlet, only studied the quizlets and made 85-90's on every exam.
I loved having this professor!! I had him for 101 and 102 and he is great!! I have never meet a teacher that cares more about his students. He really makes the class interesting and wants everyone to learn. He has the class very engaged/interactive! His exams are not too bad! The lab that went a long with the class super interesting! 10/10 teacher!
This was one of the easiest classes ever, and I actually hate biology! Dr. Chandler is so funny and his tests are so easy!
The best professor I've ever had! Lectures are posted on Canvas, clicker points are extremely lenient, homework is assigned before tests and aren't due until after tests, and tests are a breeze if you know the material. His TA's grade the short answer portions and are a lil clueless sometimes so make sure you double check test results.
Dr. Chandler was awesome! I had him for Bio101 and Bio102. He makes the class super fun and is very knowledgeable. He wants you to do well in the class & is more than willing to help you during office hours. He does take clickers but they end up maxing out at the end so if you miss a few classes its ok 10/10 recommend
Dr. Chandler is the BEST. Biology has never been my strongest subject, but he finds a way to make it fun and interesting. He does move quickly during lectures, but he posts all of the powerpoints afterwards so you can take notes. Would highly recommend! Bonus points: he loves Star Wars and makes references to it during class
Awesome professor, if you need to take a science with a lab I would highly recommend taking his BIO 101 class.
jeremy chandler was a great professor! At the beginning of this class, i was unaware of how to study. after the first two tests, i went to his office hours to ask what i needed to study. he was very helpful and my grade for the third test was much better. the class is easy if you put in the effort to study and read the book.
He is the best!! Clicker points are a big thing so just show up and participate. Tests often include short answer questions that involve discussed topics in lecture. Chandler moves fast but he puts everything on Google drive so the material is always available. Very caring and kind man.
Dr. Chandler is very caring, and he is very willing to help if you need it. Open door policy, so if you need anything you can go to his office hours. Attendance is not mandatory, but there are clicker questions for point during every class. He usually goes through the powerpoints quickly but puts the powerpoints on google drive.
Chandler is a great choice. He really does care about his students and he works hard to keep his lectures engaging. There's 3 tests and then the final. His multiple choice is pretty straightforward as long as you study the lectures (which are online), but the short answer are challenging so make sure you really understand everything.
Biology is generally a field that I find pretty boring, but Chandler did a pretty good job teaching this course. He is a likable guy that really cares about his students. Tests were pretty easy if you studied the lecture slides online. I would definitely recommend as an easy gen ed.
Dr. Chandler's class was an awesome experience, and I would highly recommend him as a professor. He's friendly and approachable, and I found his lectures both informative and entertaining. I would definitely show up to class, though--he puts the lectures on Canvas, but you'll definitely do better on the tests the more you go to class.
Literally the sweetest professor ever. I HATE any type of science but he made the experience very enjoyable. My TA was great too so, I'm taking both of them again for BIO102.
Jeremy Chandler is a very good teacher if you can pay attention to very long lectures. He bases his tests off of the lectures mostly, but the tests are extremely difficult even if you pay attention.
Dr. Chandler is a super nice and funny teacher, but his teaching style and tests drove me crazy. He flies through power points and they are very unorganized. The tests are hard and don't relate to the lectures or homework. However, he gives many extra credit and homework opportunities so the class is impossible to fail. Also a lot of group work.
From what I hear, dr chandler is one of the easiest bio profs. But this class was very difficult for me and Im a straight A student. The way he teaches is all over the place and very confusing. Very nice guy but I wish I had taken a different lab science. He does boost your grade a lot at the end of the semester so dont freak out over grades.
The majority of the grades for this class come from the tests which are definitely hard but if you fill out the objectives at the end of each slideshow (these are the study guides) and study them pretty hard every class, you will get a B and maybe even an A on every test. Chandler is really nice and really likeable, the class is definitely tough.
He flies through power points and spends most of class time doing useless group activities. I took him for Bio 160 and I'm good student but learned nothing from his lectures because he went too fast.
Chandler is very enthusiastic about science & teaching. However, his enthusiasm causes him to speed through slides and doesn't leave them up long enough for you to write down 3 words... found myself taking pictures of every slide in order to take notes. Lots of group work in class and the assignments and tests are fairly easy. He just goes so fast.
Dr. Chandler's class was difficult for me, but I would definitely take it again. His tests are hard (class averages for each test were in the 70s and 80s). However, you are given the opportunity to earn points back on every test. He also gives extra credit throughout the semester. Very caring, funny, and charismatic professor who loves his job.
His lectures go so fast theres seriously no point of even trying to take notes. Reading doesn't help, just do well on hw and biolit. You can skip class here and there, but overall go to most lectures because he does clickers and in class group work. His exams are super hard but he gives some points back. overall super hard class for a 100 level.
He flies through powerpoints, which are 80 slides at least. His powerpoints are super specific, but then his exams are very broad and theoretical. He does allow you to get a percent of points back from your exams. He does not answer your questions directly and does not reply to emails at all.
J. chand is one of my favorite professors. He is incredibly caring and understanding of students and their circumstances. While the class is really lecture and exam heavy, he really does his best to make sure that all of his students have the materials they need to succeed.
Chandler is such a nice and fun guy, but at times I think he forget he was teaching Biology for NON biology majors. Extremely lecture heavy, but he couldn't help that and tries to make it as fun as possible. Lab grade really helps.
Would not recommend this class for a non bio major. He talks way to fast to even take notes and each PowerPoint has 80-90 slide and there is anywhere from 5-8 PowerPoints you cover before each test and no guidelines on what to study. The test are HARD. Lab is a breeze though. He also does not grade work so you have no idea what your grade could be.
Great prof but goes so beyond fast. Each class has 80-100 slides and exams are crazy hard.
extremely hard teacher. One of the only bio101 teachers and he does not care about any students who are struggling. People I know and even me have emailed him tons of times but he never responds to anyone. Every in class assignment is graded very difficult. None of the exams are based off his lectures. DO NOT take him if you don't have to.
VERY fast. He is an awesome person but his class is very difficult. Expect to teach yourself and study for hours to try to grasp the material if you haven't had much experience in biology.
Lectures are very fast so don't even bother taking notes. If you want to do well on the exams, you have to read the textbook. A lot of homework that is difficult. Office hours are helpful. Sweet sweet man but the class is hard, there's no denying. Just do the homework if you want to have a B. Labs are pretty easy and help boost your grade.
He is a super cool guy, super funny, caring and overall just a great person. His class, however, is super hard. He flies through lectures that are powerpoints with 80+ slides. His Celebrations of learning (tests) are very broad and based on the lecture. His class is very entertaining, but super hard. Labs are fairly easy, you just have to do them.
Chandler is the best guy ever. However, his class was VERY difficult. Go to lecture or you will fail the tests and you have clicker points. Do well on sapling, lab assignments, clickers and online work because tests WILL bring your grade down by alot. Other than the class being hard, he is seriously the best. Makes class fun and enjoyable
Chandler is one of the most genuinely caring professors. Utilize his accessibility through office hours - he helped me better my studying! He goes fast during lectures so it helps just to listen and try to pay attention. The tests are very difficult but I found that I did the best when I read the chapters and went back over the powerpoints.
Dr Chandler was the best professor ever! he is so passionate about teaching and really wants you to succeed. he is very approachable and willing to help. go to class and pay attention and you will do good in the class. the tests are what he says in class and has caps on amount of points you can have in a category so there are more points presented.
Great guy, he really wants everyone to do their best. Hes funny and very helpful. Tests are lecture based and more conceptual so beware of that. Easy lab, just show up but your TA does make a difference. Go to class for clicker points but taking notes is practically impossible cause he goes so fast, take notes after class. Just do the work lol.
Dr. Chandler is great. DO NOT WORRY about your grade on canvas. My overall grade went up 12 points within the last week of the semester! He gives you everything you need to do well, however you need to study. You can get away with doing little to nothing during lectures but you HAVE to study for the exams. He will let you get credit back!
He is by far the coolest professor I have had so far. His class is not easy but he gives you every chance possible to do well. I was very surprised to get an A in his class, for the whole semester I was trying to keep it within B range. If you give his class adequate effort, you will do well. Your grade goes up a ton at the end of the semester.
Jeremy Chandler is the best Bio professor in Tennessee. He cares so much for his students and biology. His passion for bio makes you want to pay attention and taking notes in a lecture is a good idea. He is a 10/10 professor.
Dr. Chandler makes class really fun with a lot of interactive activities. However, his tests are 100% from the textbook and he flies through his powerpoints, so theres really no point in even taking notes. Tests are hard, clickers everyday, but overall not the worst part of my day.
He is very inspired by biology and will do his best to help. my grade was my fault for not studying as I should have. His lectures are heavy, but make a Quizlet and you should be good.
Horrible professor. Very vague in expectations for the course, flies through 80+ slides per lecture, sporatic grading and never responds to emails within the week. Make sure to complete the learning objectives at the end of lecture slides before exams. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Chandler to anyone wanting a fair A in Bio160.
Okay so he's a really nice guy, but his tests are almost impossible and never puts in grades until the very end of the semester. I thought I was going to fail the class so I took the pass fail but ended up getting a 88 at the end. Very frustrating, never answers emails so don's even try. There are clickers every class so you need those points.
Terrible in lectures! Flies through his slides. His Exams are impossible to get a good grade in his class. DO NOT take him if possible!
Dr. Chandler is the best! I would take him for every science class if I could. He truly cares about his students' success. With COVID-19 this semester, he made changes to the grading scale, making the final only count if it helped students. To be ready for the tests, study the objectives on the posted lecture slides! Don't hesitate to ask for help.
I have made an A in all my classes, but barely got out with a B in his class. He is likeable guy, but his tests are crazy hard and his grading is tough. Did not learn much in his lectures either since he goes through a zillion slides so fast. Am REALLY sorry I took him!
Lectures are very PowerPoint heavy(long 50+ slides)and he absolutely flies through them so taking notes is basically impossible. He is an extremely slow grader too, it took months to get one exam back. Tests are not based on lecture and there is no study guide. He also has no specific office hours and it takes days for him to respond to emails.
Dr. Chandler is one of the best professors I have had at UT. His lectures are usually interesting even though they are like 70 slides each. Tests are extremely hard so you do have to put in the work, but he is a very approachable professor and cares about the success of his students. During COVID he worked extremely hard to be fair in grading.
Dr. C is very committed to teaching in a fun way. I'm not a big fan of group work, but he did at least one per exam period. It is easy to fall behind w online assignments. I loved his way of teaching online the last half, I would've preferred the course that way bc lectures were recorded to watch on your own time, so I didn't have to get up early.
He puts out a ton of information without regard to whats on the test. Or perhaps he puts out tests without regard to the information. Either way youre gonna struggle hard. In great attempts it is glorious to even fail. A smarter man than me.
Jeremy is an amazing person and means well with all his students. His class; however, is impossible online. In person would have not been as bad, but he is impossible to learn from with an online platform. He goes through 60-70 slide per class and speaks a mile a minute. His tests are open notes, but they are so hard you can't even use your notes.
Worst class i have ever taken in my college career. 60+ slides in 50 minutes. With an online environment you would think he would be understanding on how stressful it is for us but no. As the semester goes on more and more work is assigned and for me is more then my other classes combined. Keep in mind this is only a intro class to. Horrible class.
I just want to iterate that Professor Chandler is a great guy, but his class greatly demoralizes me. I never in my wildest dreams would have ever imagined an entry level class being this hard. I feel bad for my other peers that are non bio majors as well because this class have proven to be a great obstacle with Non achievable Goals.
Despite the difficulty of the test, overall he is an amazing professor. He really tries to accommodate the student's concerns and he can be accessed during office hours and via email. You could honestly fail every test and still make a high B or low A! He is very understanding and will try his hardest to help you if you make an effort.
Chandler is a great person who has the best intentions though online classes are not meant for him. He gives random assignments and it gets hard to coordinate the due dates because they pop up randomly. The test are extremely difficult and lecture slides wont help you even though its open note. He tries to gives curves when possible which is nice.
Dr. Chandler is SO nice he really cares about biology, the only problem is his assignment would pop up the day they were due and I would get behind, his test are hard and even with help studying from another biology professor I still only got a B.
Professor Chandler is an interesting lecturer, but boy oh boy were these exams something else this semester. I don't know what exactly impacted our course experience, but being on Zoom didn't help in the least. His lectures have a tendency to not be applicable to the exams and the assignments are a chore. People don't care about their group project
Dr. C is a great person, but REALLY struggles to teach online. He flies through 60+ slides in a 50 minute lecture. His exams bordered on unfair because half of the questions weren't covered in his lectures. He's a really kind guy who I think tries to help people succeed, but he falls short of that a lot of the time and leaves you teaching yourself.
Prof Chandler is one of the most caring professors I have had. He holds a lot of office hours and is always willing to help. He does go very fast and it's impossible to take notes during lectures but he records all his zooms and sends them out. I never read the textbook. The weekly quizzes help boost grades.
He is a really nice professor and cared a alot about his students but his tests were very difficult for no reason. I failed every single one but he heavily curved them which was nice. I ended with an A for that but otherwise I would not have done so well.
I took Dr. Chandler's class online and thought he did a good job of keeping students engaged. I did find that a lot of people had issues with his tests. They required you to apply a lot of what we had learned, so if you just memorized facts and not actual mechanisms or how different things interact with each other then you might suffer on tests.
I had Dr. Chandler for BIO160 and he was great. He always listened to students and really seems to care about them and if they do well. However, his tests are very applied and can be difficult. As long as you make sure you know the material and can apply it, youll do fine in the course!
Dr. C is a great choice. He is very accommodating to his students needs and concerns. His lectures are very useful for the tests. Tests are only worth 30% of your grade. He is a slow grader, and his tests are application based, but they are open note and open internet open for a few days. Attend lecture and review his slides and daily questions.
Dr. Chandler is a great professor and is very knowledgable about the subject material. I would highly recommend his class, but I will also warn you that it is not an Easy A. The exams are not simply recall, but rather applied questions that make you think deeply about the material. Take advantage of office hours and really dig into the material!
Chandler is a great guy and really caring however his class really difficult. You will have lots of assignments to keep your grade up however it's extremely hard to keep track of notes and lectures as he flies through slides and makes his exams almost entirely application-based that really make you think about the material.
Dr. Chandler was overall a good college instructor, although I feel like he would be an even better high/middle school teacher. His class was not super difficult concept-wise, yet had a lot of busywork assignments with pretty difficult tests that were sometimes curved. The busy work does help your grade in the end, so I would take his class again.
Dr. Chandler was overall a very good college professor, but in my opinion, would be a better high/middle school teacher. One example of this is he calls tests "celebrations of learning," which are the hardest part of the class. He also assigns a lot of smaller assignments that will help your grade in the end. I would take him again.
I absolutely love Dr. Chandler. While his tests are difficult, he truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Would definitely take one of his classes again in the future!
He is a very caring guy, but for an intro biology class, it was way too hard. His tests are impossible and there was a lot of homework. Additionally, he went through like 80 slides in one lecture and they were very scatterbrained. I will say he does care about his students and is ALWAYS there to help. He is a nice guy, but I am NOT taking him again
Dr. Chandler cares for his students, and his lectures are very entertaining. That being said, his exams are extremely difficult. They're "open note, open internet, open everything but your peers" but none of that helps, and most people score low. There are tons of small assignments that help keep your grade up, you won't fail just because of exams
Absolutely the worst class Ive ever taken. Ive never struggled more in a class, much less a gen ed class before in my life. The tests are impossible, the lectures are sped through and make no sense, and I learned nothing the whole semester. Nice guy and approachable, but I would much rather learn something then go through hell for nothing.
Dr Chandler is really nice and wants you to do well, but you definitely have to work for it. Exams are online and not proctored but they are still pretty hard. There's a ton of assignments each week but they really do help you grade & help you better understand things. His office hours are very helpful. He also drops grades and curves exams.
Professor Chandler goes extremely fast in his lectures. It is so hard to keep up with him, so prepare to copy down his ninety-slide slideshows as preparation for exams. His exams are extremely hard as well, so you need to prepare really well for them. Plus his TA's is very bad so do not take him because of his TA.
This man is awesome! I took him in the fall of 2021 for bio 101 and all his tests and exams were online. They were super hard but if you pay attention and take good notes in class you should do fine. He really is the nicest and cares so much about his students. He has late night office hours and is really the goat! Take him!!!
The tests were always insanely hard. But he was a really nice guy! I didnt mind his class. But, the test grades really brought my grade down. If you can, take Brenton over Chandler.
Awesome professor but moves too quickly through slides and crams in as much as possible each class. Gives extra credit opportunities and wants you to succeed in his class. He will always help when you ask questions.
Professor Chandler was a very caring and uplifting professor. His lectures were fast and note-taking would oftenbe taken at a later time, but they were worth it when it came to the exams. Exams had a lot more to do with application and less memory retention. He's a very kind professor though, willing to answer any questions in a timely manner.
Very likable and funny. Engages students through interesting examples and funny remarks. Almost all homework, quizzes, and tests are online which is helpful. You can tell he loves his job and wants students to actually learn the material.
He was very engaging in his lectures which kept it entertaining other than just monotone.
I hate Biology and still do, but I like Dr. Chandler. He seems like a very good guy and cares about his students success. He wants you to learn, but also put in a little bit of work with some of the assignments. I would say the most pleasant experience you can get out of an entry level course of Biology.
Chandler is a super nice guy, but his exams make no sense. The questions are worded to make them seem much more complicated than they need to be, and you don't have much time. The lectures are long, and he always goes to the end of time. He also decided to give us 12 assignments due on the last day of classes, with 5 days to complete them all.
Prof chandler is a super cool guy, very nice and hilarious. You can tell he loves his job however, his lectures are extremely fast and it's almost impossible to take notes. His tests are difficult but you are given a lot of easy small assignments that help you not fail. Overall, he was a pretty good professor, he just moves a little fast.
WORST professor I have ever had. Lectures over 80 slides a class and exams ar impossible. He will choose one word to remember from one lecture slide and have a question on it. Only reason I passed with a decent grade is because he has to curve every exam because the average is around a 50% every time. DO NOT take him. AWFUL. He is a nice guy though
Professor Chandler keeps the class engaging with his humor and passion. While tests are challenging, the online format and extra credit opportunities help. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for preparing effectively. Overall, a manageable yet rewarding class.
His exams were super hard and there are so many assignments
He was a cool professor but those lectures?? 60+ slides every time that's over 100 slides in one week. Almost impossible to study for a test because you never know what to expect. But can pass the class with at least a B if u complete canvas assignments.
He is really nice. Attendance in-class is not mandatory, but there are clickers every class and they are throughout the class so you have to stay on it, but it's completion not accuracy. The tests are open resource like his powerpoint slides, google, literally anything, but they are timed so you need to know some of it on your own and be familiar.
Will not take again. So many slides per lecture with a ton of information, very hard to gather information especially because of how quickly he goes through it as well. You have no idea what is going to be on the exams. Attendance is not required but he has clicker questions and sometimes in-class work.
He is a very nice person but an awful teacher. His tests are in person and proctor-ed. They are never on the lecture slides and half of the questions are "select all that apply" so you usually get points off on every question. It is impossible to study because he never outright asks a question, but tries to relate them to his life.
He is a nice person but not a very good teacher. His tests are in person and proctorio-ed. The questions are never on the lecture slides and half of the questions are "select all that apply" so you usually get points off on every question. It is impossible to study because he never outright asks a question, but tries to relate them to his life.
Jeremy Chandler is such a sweet guy - yet his teaching style is quite difficult if you're not a biology major that knows majority of the stuff. There are 60+ slides each class and he flips through them so fast you cannot take notes. No study guides are provided and the test questions make no sense and relate to nothing we did in class.
I don't suggest taking Professor Chandler. I have friends in BIO 102 with other professors that are breezing by. He makes at least 6 power points per module and each power point is around 80 slides, he goes through them too fast to take notes. The average grade on all of the exams is about a 50% and he does not prepare the class well for any exams.
Chandler is a nice guy, but he doesn't understand that biology does not come easily to most people. He explains the content in impossible terms and his lectures are disorganized. He asks insanely off topic questions on the test and has mostly "select all that apply" which tanks your grade. Everyone in the class knows you fail every test. Good luck.
He seems like he cares a lot about the course content, but fails to understand that everyone does not have a bio background. This class is supposed to have no pre-reqs, but he often taught like there was supposed to be a base of knowledge that no one had. Very difficult exams, 1/2 on canvas, 1/2 paper. Canvas has lots of "select all" questions.
It is such a shame how funny and nice he is, as he is difficult in a multitude of ways: Never responds to emails, tests are difficult, moves way too fast in lecture (especially for one that doesn't post lecture slides before class). He is a great guy, but I think that he is under the impression that everyone learns the way he does.
He is super nice, and you can tell he really cares about his students. That said, all of his exams are completely application-based, half online and half on paper, and are impossible to finish in the time limit, and the wording/multiple-select makes it very difficult to score high, as reflected in the low test score averages.
Exams were heavily application-based, and lectures were confusing because he didn't prepare well. Exam averages were below 60% consistently. Surprise homework that didn't prepare you for exams, and no study guides. Good luck getting higher than a B in this class unless you are extremely knowledgeable in biology. Take a different teacher!
This pains me to say because Chandler was such a nice person; however, his exams are nearly impossible to prepare for and do well on. The averages for each remained around 50%, and he never provided any study materials to help students. I have never studied so much in my life only to get average scores. Either find another professor or pray!
Chandler is a great guy, but he made it very difficult to study for exams. He provided no resources, and the average exam grades were around 50-60%.
He was a great guy but gave 0 study material and moved through PowerPoints absurdly fast. Curves exams a ton and gives test corrections. Great guy overall.
He was such a kind and passionate professor, and while the exams were difficult, they were curved and manageable if you spent a lot of time studying the material outside of class, since he covers a lot of content. He also provides tons of canvas assignments as well as test corrections to help your grade.
