Although Jeremy is a relatively new teacher to Langara, he's definitely an amazing professor. He's really fast paced but he clearly defines what he wants when he grades tests. He teaches the concepts well, and makes a bunch of funny analogies to ease understanding. Definitely would recommend this prof.
Good Teacher, not the best Calculus teacher, but he is good.
A caring person,a great prof with inspiring lectures. He comes to class prepared and he knows what he is doing. The exams are a bit hard but if you do the assigned practice questions, you can get a good mark. Ask him any question and he will walk you through and makes sure you understand it .Probably the best math teacher I've had so far.
If you have a chance definitely take him. He makes calculus fun and enjoyable to learn. Questions assigned from the textbook arent for marks but the hard ones almost always appear on the exam. Learn how to do calculus fast, the tests are easy but are a time crunch.
His lectures are always really interesting and he encourages class participation. Goes over the harder questions in class. Homework assigned from the textbook is not mandatory but there's a small part of the final mark from WebAssign every week.
He makes Calc class a lot of fun. His tests can be kind of hard because they are a time crunch. So while the questions may not be hard you have to know what you are doing to finish the test with time to check your answers. He prepared us well for the final. Definitely would take him again if i could, he is the coolest prof out there
Weekly quizzes are easy if you do the homework, midterms must be done quickly. Great, engaging teacher, although his taste in music is questionable...
He makes calculus enjoyable. He sometimes goes quick during his lectures but he does this to have review classes for the final. The exams are pretty tough because of the limited time.
Solid choice for 1183. The labs were tedious and confusing but he was a GREAT help. As for lectures, he's better at making puns than teaching but at least he makes the process bearable. Loves to deviate from material that will be tested and zooms through the Calculus. I see him as an AMAZING professor... in 10 years. Very willing to help.
really needs to update his notes, he's always crossing stuff out and fixing his notes during lectures. you'll need to value every second and go really fast during exams to be able to finish it correctly, but the questions' difficulty is fair as you've most likely seen them before. weekly quizzes usually straight from homework. jokes + music why
He makes calculus interesting and easy to learn. Always willing to help no matter how easy the question is. You'll get great marks as soon as you make the best of his office hour. He is the coolest guy and the best teacher I've ever met.
Jeremy made me actually enjoy attending math class for the first time in my life. In highschool math was my worst subject and going into the engineering transfer program this fall I knew that I needed a good basis in pre calc in order to do well. he provided me with the tools and study habits to do well in my future math classes. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
he is hard, but reasonable. prepared me for calc 2+. midterm 1 avg was 65%.
He is hard but fair. All of his quizzes and exams are based off of the homework so it shouldnt be a surprise. he's super nice, jokes are nerdy but you should laugh or else he makes the final harder haha he goes through the lectures super quickly so we have enough time in the end to review for the final. Use his office hours as a advantage! it helps
midterms are not too hard, but there are a few hard questions, but its a huge time crunch. ive never been able to finish in the given time. class avg is 65% for midterms. He will low-key force you to ake notes, even if you have issues switching between the too. i was in his class a few years ago.
He's an awesome professor, he loves what he does therefore the classes are easy to understand. Also, he shows how math is applied in the real world making learn it better than ever.
Don't take him unless you already know calculus inside and out. He talks to the class as if we already mathematicians. I learnt calculus through youtube videos...
Too difficult. He probably assumed that all of his students had already known lots of about calculus. Quizzes and exams were hard.
Jeremy teaches very clearly and likes to make jokes when he's lecturing. You won't be bored keeping up with his lecture. Nice guy and accessible outside class. Please be ready, though, to have difficult exams if you want to take him. He is strict in term of exam and grading. Only the smartest students will get A. Take him if you like music videos.
He's probably a nice person in general, but definitely a tough grader. His midterms are barely do-able, and he marks them very hard. Take Jeremy if you really want to learn something. Don't bother if your basic math skills aren't good and you want to pass. Do not recommend.
He is tooo good instructor.
Horrible teacher. Very arrogant. Too smart to teach.
he's funny n all that, sure. but we take the class to pass with a good mark and for some students, their whole college career (transferability to a uni) depends on this course. doesn't bother with the students strugglng/ From 1st day, he'll treat you like you all know the course by heart and born mathematicians. very judgemental, not understanding
I attended his class for 2 week and I knew right away it was a mistake. He talks way too fast for you to understand. He acts very cocky which feels very belittling especially if you're struggling. You either have to know your way around calculus already or just don't think about taking his class. If you do.. all I can say is good luck!
With 5 courses, I can honestly say I put more hours into Calc than all other 4 combined, yet this was the lowest mark--AND considering I'd always aced math in highschool, including in Calc. You are NOT guaranteed a pass/good mark simply if you know all the textbook problems inside out and ace all quizzes. I know. Best to just pick another instructor
Jeremy is really funny and makes the class entertaining, and he explains things in a way that gives the concept a purpose. He's really smart, but he assumes that you understand all the concepts the exact same way that he does. If you go to his office hours, he's helpful but he can be a bit condescending.
My least favourite math teacher. He gives you as much marks on quizzes he possibly can. He is pretty much the type of person that explains something fast and assumes you know it right of the bat. Before every question he says "Oh its easy", then it turns out hard. His exams are hard because he adds a lot of tricks that you would easily forget.
He is not nice at all .Has no human kindness.
Jeremy is smart, funny and engaging, and tries to convey useful intuitions. His class and pace are challenging, but that's why they are enjoyable. He is thorough in repeating and reviewing material before each midterm and gives clear expectations. I would definitely take him again!
If you study and do the textbook questions and don't procrastinate until the midterms/final you'll do fine. And it's math if you forget to do something important obviously you'll get marks deducted. He does talk fast and goes through material quickly but he makes it up for it when he goes over everything that is on the midterm. Recommend him.
I think you will either love or hate Jeremy. But his lecture is clear and he is approachable.
Funny prof who cracks a joke daily. Jeremy speaks a little too fast during lecture, which can be confusing, but makes up for it by posting all his notes online + his thorough review package. Major tip, review his notes, WebAssign and weekly homework b/c me may put similar or exact questions on his quizzes/midterm/final. Overall a solid choice.
Jeremy has been one of my favourite math teachers. He is passionate about math and makes lots of cheesy jokes. He speaks (and thinks) quickly but is accommodating and helpful with my learning slowly. Lectures are fast paced so make sure you do the online homework, review notes, and use his office hours if you have trouble keeping up.
This dude does not give us many examples in class, and yea he's young but he's a prof still? I don't know any prof who's happy when students treat them as an equal... So I would think he aint too bad but he needs to give us more examples man.
Jeremy is my FAVORITE instructor in Langara! Although he speaks a little fast, I think it can help you concentrate on the class. And his midterm is not very difficult, as long as you listen carefully and finish your homework carefully, your score will not be too low! Jeremy is very funny and he likes pokemon very much! Xuan ta de ke mei cuo de!
Jeremy is alright. He taught math 1174 and I just felt like he wasn't that great. He comes off as cocky for some reason, and doesn't give enough examples. For those who are struggling with math, I would recommend a different prof. Overall I didn't really like him, but he played a lot of music before and after class...
Pros: Really smart. Cares about his students. Wants you to do well. Cons: hard to read his handwriting. Lectures are at lightening speed. Only 10 minutes to complete weekly quizzes. I liked Jeremy, but the speed was too fast for me to do well. I retook 1170 with a different (unfairly low-rated) teacher who explained things slowly and got an A.
Jeremy is a solid professor. Yes, his lectures are quick, but there is a lot of material to be covered. However, the free online textbook has a ton of examples with step-by-step solutions, and he assigns a ton of practices for you to do that will only help you do better. To be honest, he has given me faith in being able to be successful with math.
If you didnt finish your midterm test in 50 minutes and mail the teacher and asked for a chance. He will ask you to see him during the official time and tell you he can finish the test in 8 minutes. If you were still writing even one sigle word when the teacher siad times up, your test paper will be painted a big no by him in front of class
A relatable, encouraging and nice professor. Yes, he does go a bit fast during lectures but his notes are posted online afterward. Weekly quizzes and assigned homework to make sure you understand the materials well. As long as you stay on top of your homework and ask for help when needed you'll do fine.
Jeremy's course was great, he's very funny and caring. He took time out of his weekend and hosted office hours in a classroom to help us prep for our midterm. He assigns quite a bit of homework which only for our own good, math is 100% practice, and the more homework you do the better you will do. Overall an awesome prof who'll help you enjoy math.
Professor Jeremy is one of my favorite professors that I have ever had. His lectures are easy to understand as long as you're paying attention and he likes to show us how we can apply the mathematics we learn into real life problems. There are so many nice things to say about him. I plan to take his class later on in the future if possible!
Jeremy's nice, very smart, and super passionate about math but unfortunately he's just not a good educator. I think he could be one day but he needs to recognize who's actually taking 1st year math (i.e. ppl who just need to check a box for their degree) and teach accordingly. Never have I devoted so many hours to a class with so little return.
I took Jeremy a couple of years ago for Calc 1174. Honestly gave the impression of being so cocky and arrogant. He really needs to read some of these reviews and reflect how he teaches his students. Zooms through material and assumes it is easy for everyone and suggests you to "drop out" on the first day. Still come back to give him poor ratings :)
He is a really nice guy, has good energy and loves math. I did not find him to be a good teacher, he just goes so fast in his lectures. I didn't understand the subject enough to get anything out of his speed. For the stuff I did understand I felt so bad for those who didn't, there was little chance of them filling the gaps simply due to his speed
Pros: Very knowledgeable, cares a lot, tries his best to make class fun, tech-savvy. He also has a very cute dog that he shows on Zoom during breaks. Cons: He goes very, very quickly through the material. Err on the side of caution if you're not a fan of very fast-paced lectures, but if you can handle it Jeremy is a solid choice.
Still came back to give Jeremy a low rating. Too cocky and thinks all his students are all dumb. Sadly we have to take calc as a requirement for some majors, but avoid Jeremy if you want to actually get a good grade.
Jeremy zooms over the material and expects you to understand it right away. If you don't understand he'll say "too bad" and move on. Would not recommend this prof if you have a heavy course load, you need at least 2 hours a day for textbook questions to understand the content. The first midterm was a mess it was locked with only 2 question per page.
Jeremy is very passionate about math and teaching it to students. However, he goes through materials very quickly and just kind of shrugs and moves on if someone doesn't understand what he just taught. To do well in his class, you need to utilize his office hours and do a lot of homework on your own time.
Jeremy moves thro content QUICKLY, but provides both his notes and recordings of the lectures -- good prof if you have a solid foundation and keep up with your homework. He makes class more engaging by involving students in answering examples. He sometimes makes corrections during lectures and it takes a while to mark assessments & upload resources
Hands down best prof I have had. You actually want to come to class and learn. He is so efficient and effective with his teaching. You will not regret taking this class.
Class with Jeremy is very fast-paced. He encourages participation which helps learning. He's an amazing teacher if you care about your own learning. If you don't care about the material or put in the work, it may be easy to get left behind. Jeremy at first comes off as abrupt but he really cares about the success of his students.
Not a good prof what's so ever, just zooms through the material is you have a question thats too bad becuase he is not stoping class for anyone. Do not reccomend at all.
He has a great humour and make class interesting. He knows what he is talking about and really care about his students. Sometimes he talks too fast but he makes sure you understand everything by asking us.
Nice, great educator; moves through content quickly; exams are very fair. Homework is typical for a math class; most of it is not mandatory. Loves getting to know students; make use of office hours. Would give him a 5 but he had some sort of emergency that cancelled 2 weeks of class, which led to lack of finals prep. Not his fault but I'm paying.
The class average for first midterm was 46%. Midterm questions were nothing like the questions he did in lecture or assigned for homework.
Just do your assignments and ask questions and you would be fine. His exams are not hard
Jeremy's ability to teach one on one is great. However his lectures are very fast paced. Impossible to take notes during class. His exam level difficulty is insane. Engineering class had a 41 percent average on our midterm and all he did was say yeah it was a harder exam than it should've been. If you would like a challenge climb everest, not this
He expects us to understand everything with the pace he is going and he goes really fast. While he does show he cares about his students, he needs to improve on the way he teaches.
Jeremy is a nice, funny, and intelligent, albeit slightly arrogant, prof. I enjoyed his class a lot despite my final grade. He expects mastery of material, and his tests show that. Midterms are very difficult and require a lot of practice if you want to do well, so if you choose to take his class, do so with a light load.
He's rude, arrogant, and condescending. I would not recommend taking his class because he believes that many skills are "intuitive".
Jeremy is very nice man. He respect everyone especially International student like me . This was my first semester and I was struggling in this country and with my study. When I did not get good marks I used his office hours it helps me alot. However , I can't score well in midterm 2 but i got excellent marks in Final exam by which I Pass.
his class moves at a quick pace that can be hard to keep up with. it's not an easy A, but doable if you put in effort & do all the homework, especially before each quiz cause the questions will pretty much be pulled from the textbook hw. take advantage of his office hours for extra help! he's willing to go through questions and explain in detail.
He seems like a nice person but he speaks so fast its difficult to understand what he's even saying at times. If you like profs who thoroughly explain the material and won't rush through content then you'd be doing yourself a favour by picking any other prof. His lack of patience will damage your grade.
Non-understandable lectures. Creates own stories, rather than question solving. Really really hard to deal with!!!
Instructor could go faster at times through most topics. Easy assignments and exams. Highly recommend this prof
Jeremy is an extremely intelligent and approachable professor. Not only does he give good feedback, fair quizzes, and exams he shares plenty of his life experience and wisdom. Just make sure to do all the hw questions before quizzes and exams and you should do fine in the course.
Jeremy’s lectures are fast-paced so I used his notes that he posts after lecture instead of copying notes. He gives lots of homework in the textbook that are relevant to the exams. I would say his exams do not require you to read the text but to understand his notes. He is also very helpful during office hours.
Follow lecture, do your homework, prepare exams, and ask questions during the office hour, then you will get good grade easily.
He goes by the lectures quickly but that is just corresponding to the large amount of material he is supposed to cover in the semester. He is so helpful when you ask questions in class or during office hours.
He is absolutely smart and math loving. It would be a challenge to follow him in the lecture bc he speaks really fast, make sure to pay attention, you barely have time take notes. If you're not "talented", I suggest do all the homework questions he provided, and ask anything you're not sure before new stuff coming in.
Jeremy is a great instructor. He gives us homework in the textbook and web-assign. You will be ok if you understand all the context in the notes he gave. To aim for a higher mark, I recommend doing all of the work he gives, which is kinda a lot but it's helpful for midterms and the final. He speaks a little bit fast so focusing is mandatory.
Jeremy was an excellent prof - he gave clear explanations and displayed strong presentation skills that made it easier to learn the material. He made the class engaging, made efficient use of class time, and gave solid advice for problem-solving approaches. Solve textbook problems to breeze through quizzes. Budget your time during the final exam.
Jeremy is a caring and passionate instructor who doesn't take nonsense. His lectures are fast-paced and his writing can be messy but he will take time to clear up confusion. Online WebAssign questions help with weekly quizzes but midterms and final are challenging so do all the extra homework.
He helps a lot during his office hours. If you have any questions, feel free to ask him! His teaching skill is amazing and makes us "actually" understand math instead of just memorizing formulas directly.
Jeremy is not just passionate about Math he's also passionate about teaching. He is very reflective of his own methods and clearly cares about being an effective educator. Speaking with him during his office hours was incredibly beneficial and led to a significant jump in my final grade when I applied myself to the advice he gave me.
The best math professor I've ever had in my life. He taught us not only math but also how to approach the problem. He's talented, sincere, caring and helped me so much. Some comments said he speaks fast but even I as a foreigner could understand him perfectly, I wouldn't worry about it. you can always talk to him after classes too. He's the best!
Took Cal1 with him. Jeremy cares very much for his students. Quiz once a week, just like the lecture note questions. MT could be hard if you don't practice enough but getting 100 is possible. He speaks bit fast so if English is not your first language you should pay attention to him more (like me!) Overall great guy, sad that he doesnt teach cal2
Jeremy was my Calc1 professor a few semesters ago and even though I was not the strongest math student, he was always available for help, explained topics well, taught how to problem solve, and answered questions. He was an amazing math professor when I took his course and he's always happy to talk when I run into him. Great guy!
He is very fast. He want to make learn things with his own way which is hard.
I like Jeremy. But exam was a bit difficult.
He shared a lot of personal thinking methods which I find it useful in the course and other subjects. In his offoce hours, he is always there and helping students patiently. And he did adjusted my final grade from D in the first-mid-term, to B+ So he may look tough sometimes, but he is actually very reasonable and understanding
Learning calculus fundamentals at a deeper level is much more valuable than memorizing solutions for each type of question. Students who say he's an unfair marker are the same people who want to rush through problems using minimal effort, and then complain after saying they learned nothing valuable from studying math in college.
Never understood what was he saying . Total waste of time and money.
His lectures are unique, only questions & he fills in the answer during the class, no pre contents at all. He goes through contents very fast & you easily get lost in a blink. Too personal teaching style leads to unprofessional and non-understandable. Sometimes, he spends too much time to discuss something not related/important to the course.
Jeremy talks too much about unrelated things and sometimes his behaviour is quite unprofessional.
Jeremy is one of the best math professors I've ever had. His clear explanations, step-by-step problem-solving approach, and patience in answering questions made even the most challenging concepts manageable. I highly recommend Professor Jeremy to anyone looking to build a solid foundation in mathematics.
dont even think about it
Jeremy is a highly knowledgeable and intelligent teacher, however, he delivers material at a fast pace and his teaching approach can sometimes include comments that may unintentionally impact students' confidence. He could benefit from building stronger connections with his students and fostering a more supportive learning environment.
He is reasonable and understanding. Always provide key steps to solve a problem, weekly quizes but kinda easy (full mark is possible), all you need is to pay attention to his lecture
Nice Professor!
Jeremy's honestly one of the best professors I've had, insanely fast replies and engaging lectures with good feedback. If you want a successful course def pick him as your professor. He will sometimes make mistakes during the lecture but he will go through them with the class step by step ensuring you also don't commit the same.
He teaches very fast. Gives like 1 min to do a practice question. Quizzes only 11 mins. And midterms around an hour. His lectures are very fast paced.
Jeremy's overall a decent professor. Constant attention to lectures is needed and sometimes he may rush through lectures to catch up to material so self-study is often needed. His midterms are fair as long as you've done all homework. He's very accessible outside of class moreover, his practice samples really helped preparing for exams in advance.
I really appreciated Jeremy! I get he may come off rude or strangely cold but he's actually a pretty cool prof when you get to know him. He makes sure that the class understands the topics he teaches during lectures and clarifies anything. During the time at tutoring centre he gave me great personalized advice and helped me with homework!
This teacher teaches ok at the beginning of the semester but then later towards the end he messed up his teaching schedule and ended up cramming the last 4 chapters in the last 2 days of classes. Bro taught like a car going at 90km/hr on the highway. I had no idea what the hell he was teaching. I guess he is overall ok, and hopefully he willimprove
He would be a much better professor if he didn't waste so much time during lectures asking us to discuss the answers with our peers. If u are good at math, take him; otherwise, say goodbye to ur GPA
Hmm. Jeremy was okay, I think he moves fast and is very blunt in his teaching. 8 AM and he was playing pop hits every day for the semester. If you have a strong foundation and confidence in math take him, if not I would avoid just to be safe. He is a nice person tho
Don't usually rate profs but Jeremy always made time to help me understand topics that were a little misunderstood. Really cool guy too, likes pokemon and references it in lecture. Ask questions, put in work studying, show that you care and you'll see your grade reflect whatever you put in.
Jeremy was difficult to understand. Like others say if you are good at math, you wont have problem. Otherwise, your gpa will be effected.
