Clear, lieniant, and knows his stuff. Bit Gayish, and a little wierd at times, but he was still an half decent prof.
His lectures are dynamic, very fresh and he makes even the most stuffy of poets seems relatable and interesting. Very fair marker, hilareous to listen to. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Excellent. Helpful, don't let his somewhat startling lecture style scare you away. Fair marker, loves a structured essay.Highly recommend, makes boring class interesting.
Absolutely loved this prof! His enthusiasm and particular style of speech were interesting on their own, and his helpful attitude and hilarious point of view didn't hurt either. Fair marker on essays, and gave hints for the final. I would highly recommend this man.
The most interesting professor I've ever had.
does not help you. says that the writing center is not good.
Class is fun/interesting. However, he's very inconsistent when it comes to what he wants from the student. He tells you one thing, you do it, and he still says it's wrong or suggests to change it again. He can be very hypocritical at times. I'd advise to try to avoid him at all costs for your first english course.
Attendence is mandatory in order to take the notes to help you with your essays and assignments. He is an easy marker and fun to listen to. Although he is hard to understand in terms of what he expects of you, he tells you what he wants, you do it, then he picks it apart.
Citrome is actually awesome. He has a great presence and his style of teaching makes you WANT to pay attention! I swear there isn't a single person napping or not listening to what he's saying. Everyone is always hanging off his every word! Its pretty necessary to go to class, because he gives GREAT info that you can't get just by reading the text
Citrome was a great english prof. When i went to class he would review the stories we read to make the essay points more clear. Average marker and gives good advice to help you with your next essay. Very funny prof and a fair marker. prob one of the best teachers for this course!!
He was so great! Definitely the best prof that I have had at MUN so far. Never made anyone feel dumb, and always considered their views. Made the drab middle ages seem interesting and made me want to do well and go to class! DEFINITELY TAKE HIS CLASS. You will have to go to class to get a great mark but it's worth it! LOVE HIM
the most interesting & engaging prof i had this semester.fully covers everything you need to know about a topic but scramble to write down everything he says.very interesting lecture style.to do well you have to give him exactly what he wants, not much room for creative differences.fair marker if its evident you attend.would highly reccommend!
The best first year prof i had. go to class cause he gives the essay question before a text and basically gives you the answers in his lectures. you will never have a problem not hearing what he says. pronounces every syllable but is an awesome guy!
A pretty good prof despite his obsession with enunciation. He tries to speak so clearly and correctly that sometimes its actually a distraction. His midterm and final were equally brutal, but I brought my mark up with the out of class essays. Overall, I will likely avoid taking a course with him again.
Great prof, he definetely over enunciates words all the time but hes crystal clear. GO TO CLASS take note of every word he says. He talks slow enough for you to get it all down its perfect cuz when the essays and tests come around you have the answers because he tells you them in class and gives you amazing hints.
Great! Enunciates his words a lot, which is a bit of a shock in the first class, but you get used to it. Tells you exactly what he wants in an essay, so not for people who have their own creative style, but great for people who don't like english. Exam and test questions are basically given to you, along with the answers, so go to class!
Awesome prof for first year english. GO TO CLASS! He says everything you neeed to know for you essays. Follow his guidelines and you will do great. Interesting to listen to as well. Get him if you can!
He was my favourite first-year prof!! Very clear in what you need to know for the essays and gives great hints about what will be on the exams. You must attend class and take good notes on what he says during lectures (doesn't write much on the board).
Fantastic prof! Over enunciates his words a lot, which is really distracting the first few classes, but you get used to it. Tells you everything he wants on your essays, so going to class and taking notes is definitely important. Really enjoyed his class!
AWESOME PROF! Mr.Citrome made my first semester english a breeze!! He was really easy to get along with, he gave vey good notes, and gave you helpfull points in what he wanted you to write!! If i could take him again i would without thinking twice! If you want to enjoy english and not be afraid , get him! he's GREAT!!
loved his class. made everything clear. Explained material we would be tested on very well. would recommend!
Dr. Jeremy Citrome was byfar the BEST professor I've ever had! Go to his classes as he doesn't put very many notes on the board, but if you listen to what he has to say, you'll do great! He's hard to get used to as he enunciates every syllable of every word, but you get used to it. He's a very down to earth guy, I'd recommend his class to anyone!
My favorite first year prof. If you go to class you will do very well. His lectures are interesting and he is a very nice guy. Take his class you won't be disappointed!
He was my very first English Prof, I had a 65 on my very first essay. with his help I got through and got 85 near the end of the year. His lessons, are clear and he is a very nice person in or out of class, don't hesitate to ask for help, and he'll never let you down. I felt well prepared for finals, he cares about his students and is a great guy:)
I loved this prof.I found him very approachable and friendly. If you attend the lectures and pay attention you will do very good. He gives a lot of hints and ideeas on what he would like to see on the essays.I found him interesting and thanks to him now I can finally write a good essay.
Really great prof! He is certainly very intelligent and funny, really enjoyed attending his lectures, very interesting. He really enunciates his words and can be loud, but you get used to it after a while! Important to attend class, he uses a lot of examples that he wants you to use in essays/assignments.
Really great prof, my favourite in the Endlish dept. He is very knowledgable, easy to listen to, entertaining in class and most importantly he knows how to help you learn to write. He is very approachable and has great tips on how to improve your writing.
He kept the lectures very intersting. I never missed a class and did very well with his class. Very approachable and easy to get along with. I recomend him to anyone who puts any amount of efford in their work.
An amazing professor. If you attend the lectures and take notes it is possible to have a very high mark. The classes are fascinating and content extremely valuable and interesting information. I've take two classes with him and hope to take more.
Very easygoing, approachable and willing to help. Lectures were enjoyable and he offers great insight. Really helps you learn how to write a strong essay.
Speaks very clearly. Great prof to approach with questions and gives good advice. Hard marker but he tells you upfront what he is looking for.
great prof
I didn't have any interest in literary works but his lectures were easy and interesting that I got a B
He was very thorough and had very realistic expectations throughout the course. Consistent in marking. Runs through information quickly, but important points are stressed and revisited.
Speaks very clearly, very approachable, easygoing. Lectures and texts were insightful, thought-provoking. Highly recommended.
Great teacher, highly recommend.
I found this prof to be very rude. If I was to ask him a question about an assignment he would make me feel like an idiot for even asking. I will never recommend him to anyone and will NEVER take a course from him again. Take home essays had limited instructions and he did not answer emails to answer any questions. You've been warned......
Clear lecturer, fair marker, and all around good guy. Highly recommended.
amazing prof. very understanding, crystal clear points, and pretty easy grader. Funny and very centric in his lectures. Also a awesome book list for the course. over all great prof !
Spoke in a very clear and organized way. A fair marker. 40% of the course based on quiz marks from readings
By far my favorite English prof at MUN. Keeps lectures very interesting, very knowledgeable and a great sense of humor. I would definitely recommend!
Good guy, notices if you attend class or not. Good book selection. Will help if you take the effort and go to office hours!
Very clear and easy to understand. I don't particularly find english courses interesting but he did make the classes easy to sit through and enjoyable. Would recommend him to anyone taking english 1080.
Dr. Citrome was by far my favourite prof in my first semester. He is a hilarious man, and he is very understanding. The first time he speaks I think everyone is a little confused because of the enunciating, but you get used to it. Everything he says is so interesting, he is awesome. If you hated english in highschool, take his class, you'll love it
Great prof! Never gave anyone under sixty! Loved him, basically read all novels to us. He's very animated and makes the course interesting!
Very nice man. I had a hard time understanding old English and poets like Shakespeare, Milton, Chaucer etc. until this class. If you go to class, you will pass with flying colors. He recites almost all of the readings and helps to better understand them, great prof!
Amazing! Super animated, keeps things interesting, very clear, very helpful, and a fair grader. He speaks very deliberately and clearly. One of my favourite profs.
My favourite prof at MUN. If you hated English in high school, get him because he makes it so much funner and enjoyable. Cannot wait to have him again next semester. Such a great guy!
Loved him and can't wait to have him again next semester. Always made class enjoyable!
After having this man for two semesters it truly disheartens me that I won't have him again. He is an amazing prof and person, he makes English interesting especially if you hated English in high school. My essay writing skills have improved 100% from what they were in high school. He is a ridiculously hard marker sometimes, but he is a great prof
One of my favourite English profs at MUN. Always willing to help. Makes reading old English a little easier and understandable. By the end of the course, I was actually fully engaged and interested in the subject matter. He accentuates his words when he speaks and at first it's annoying, but you get used to it and start to really like him!
Jeremy Citrome far outranks 95% of the professors at Memorial. His intelligence comes across in every well-constructed sentence of lecture, and his evaluations are perfectly reminiscent of what you (should) have gathered from his classes. Fair marker. You do the work, you get the grade. Can't recommend enough.
Great prof. I am an English major and I can say Citrome is one of the best in the department. He makes class very exciting He loves all types of literature. He can be a tough grader but it''s nothing to bad if you put the work in. A great prof to get you excited about English.
One of my favourite profs in my first semester. Funny guy, very clear on how he wants you to write your essays, and goes into much detail about the pieces he covers throughout the term. May seem intimidating at first but he is helpful and doesn't make you feel belittled. Interactive with the class. Had a 65 at beginning, then ended up getting 85's!
Great prof and fair marker. Makes lectures interesting.
Great teacher. Every lesson, you could tell he was very passionate about the course work and English as a whole, even if he admitted to not liking some of the texts. Very amusing guy, has great ideas, and always asks for your opinion unlike some other English teachers.
One of the best professors I've ever had for English! English 2000 would ordinarily be a really annoying, difficult and dry course. Dr. Citrome has this way about him that makes the course much more exciting! I would definitely recommend him, for any English course, especially 2000.
Honestly, the first day i went to class he was very loud and different and it kind've scared me off a little. But when we started getting into the short stories, novels and poems etc. he applied really interesting opinions and depth into his lectures. I would definitely take him again!
Great guy, he's very clear in the readings, but what we're reading is so boring. Mostly religious based.
Such an amazing prof. You can tell he's really invested in the subject matter and wants his students to do the best they possibly can. Unfortunately, I missed a lot of classes and I'm not doing the greatest, but every class I've attended was super interesting. The reading material is sorta all over the place, but he ties it all together.
Have only done online course with him and it was a mess! Lectures are not clear for an online and he has no idea how to use the delts system. Struggled in the course due to disjointed lectures. Also found him combative when contacted. Not friendly.
Dr. Citrome was sent from heaven. As long as you went to class he made sure you knew the material. He often marks the first assignment low so you grow in confidence the higher the mark. He made it clear what he expected !
He is an excellent professor. Very fair to science students and understands that they are only taking English because they have to. He is a very animated speaker, but you get used to it after the first few classes. I would definitely recommend.
Great prof. Very passionate about English and lectures are never boring. Would definitely recommend it.
Great Prof. If you work hard and pay attention there should be no problem getting a good grade. The class is never boring and always makes jokes. First essay assignment I got an 85. Definitely would take his class again.
AMAZING! I hate english so much, but having him as a prof made me actually look forward to class! He is very understanding of student life (you have a WEEK after a paper is due to hand it in!). He is also very lenient with his grading; I got an 85+ on every essay & the exam. highly HIGHLY recommend him, wish I could have him for every english cour
Best prof i have had by far!
Love his lectures :) Really puts effort in which I appreciate so much because the material can be kind of dry at times. Genuinely wants students to succeed and is always there to help. Highly recommend!!
Convinced he is the best English prof in the department!
10/10 amazing prof. attendance isn't mandatory but i can't bring myself to skip a class because his lectures are so hilarious and intense.
Jeremy Citrome is one of few professors I've encountered so far at MUN who is consistently pleasant, polite, and unintimidating. He's a fair grader and an all-around friendly guy. He doesn't give out "Easy-As" but he also doesn't dump too much work on you or give unfair criticisms/grades. Overall he's an amazing prof, definitely recommended
Read that he was a great prof, but if you have him for an online course... good luck. Course material was confusing and unclear. I found him to be rude and not helpful at all. I would personally never take a class from him ever again.
He is clearly passionate about what he teaches and it makes his lectures entertaining and interesting. The readings he assigned were challenging but he acknowledged that and would always explain them thoroughly in class, so I would recommend going. Attendance wasn't mandatory but the classes were enjoyable so I never wanted to skip them anyway.
Dr. Citrome is a really great prof overall. This material in this course was a bit more dry than I expected but he managed to make it interesting. He assigns fairly large readings and you will need the textbook to do well. However, his lectures are very detailed and he is very approachable if there is something you need clarification about.
Outlines everything he wants in class! Gives lots of easy assignments and marks fair. If you dont go, you wont pass, pretty well nothing is online and he doesnt want electronics in his classroom.
Jeremy is overall a really good prof. He is clear about what he wants on an essay and as he teaches english as well, is very particular about proper writing techniques used. He let my class fix our essays so that we could get a better mark by fixing our thesis statement and topic sentences. He also let us choose the format of our final.
I love the guy! His lectures are hard to keep up with sometimes but I found them super captivating! He is really clear with how he wants you to write, makes papers so much easier! He wants people to pass, and he is aware that ENGL 1090 is a required course and most people don't want to be there! No in class essays other than the final!
I personally wont take a class with him again, didnt post anything helpful on d2l, very rude, not helpful at all with marking essays, and not helpful with explaining concepts further. I took his class because I read many great reviews but I was very disappointed by the middle of the semester.
Jeremy Citrome is amazing! I had him for English 1090 and I really enjoyed his class! He is very interesting to listen too and I actually learned a lot. I feel like my grammar and writing has improved because of his lectures. Lectures are mandatory though! He does not post notes online and there was no lecture capture! Would take again!
He made me want to major in communications. Was so funny and made the lectures on very dry content, very intriguing and amusing. Was available outside of class and didn't have any trouble answering questions. Understood that the content of the course was dry and boring. Very lecture heavy, write your own notes, but made the content understandable
Best professor I have ever had. His lectures are thought-provoking, hes considerate and respectful. He will often throw in some dry humor during lectures which is great. He is super clear about what he wants on essays and exams. I would definitely recommend going to his lectures , they are beyond helpful. Overall, great professor! would recommend
Citrome is one of the best professors I have had at Memorial. He makes his grading criteria clear about what he expects, he also makes the most boring English topics - like grammar - super interesting. I definitely would take him again!
Citrome keeps English class extremely interesting. What I expected to be a boring English lecture turned out to be an entertaining 50 minutes where Citrome clearly explains the material. He makes it very clear about what he expects on essays and tests. Highly recommend taking for this course with him!
Dr. Citrome made content that seemed really unapproachable fun and engaging. Keeps it real, has a sense of humour and admits his mistakes when he knows he's wrong. Really fun course and nice prof!
Great lectures. Dr. Citrome is funny, inspirational (he initiates and welcomes good class discussions), and an understanding prof. He makes great choices in materials. I have heard him praised by students and colleagues alike. You would be lucky to have a prof like him.
I'm personally not a huge English fan, but Jeremy really made the course interesting. The material he chose for us to cover was pretty good, and he also provides plenty of chances to improve your marks throughout the semester, going as far as to drop bad marks if you've done better on other material. Great prof!
Amazing! Incredible lectures, interesting content, and an overall cool dude. He's no wimp, but he is super helpful. I took this class for credit and ended up LOVING it. I do not recommend if you do not pay attention in class, use your phone, or are not interested in the course itself. He's old fashioned, an incredible prof.
He doesn't post anything online or take attendance, but if you don't go to class, you won't understand the readings! He explains pretty much everything you need to know for your essays in class, so make sure to take notes. He doesn't assign too much work and is a fair grader. He also gives opportunities to improve your mark.
Class is not mandatory but you discuss alot in class and he does not post notes online. Midterm is similar to class discussions so no real surprises if you attend. He made all readings available online so no need to buy books. Evaluation included 2 essays,1 midterm and 1 final. Would recommend him and really liked this course!
Super expressive and interesting guy. Very few evaluations weighty highly but he makes it very clear what he wants and sometimes replaces marks. He doesnt really do D2L so you HAVE to go to class, and take notes of everything he says! Hell discount any information in evaluations thats taken from online. Pretty easy courses, I took him twice!
I took Dr. Citrome for English 1090 and 1192 and he is by far my favorite prof I've had. He doesn't use D2L so showing up to class and taking good notes is necessary, but his lectures are always interesting and enjoyable. There are very few evaluations but he makes it clear what he expects, grades fairly, and will always help outside of class.
I read so many great reviews about him, but to me, they're all wrong. I found him very rude, he basically told me I couldn't write essays, even though I took many english and philosophy classes and received an A in all of those. I asked him to clarify a reading and he told me to go read it again. Don't take this class with him.
I had Jermey for CMST2000 and Engl1192 and he is one of my favourite profs. So funny in lectures and makes class so interesting. Be warned though; he posts NOTHING on D2L. No lecture capture and no phones in class either so be prepared to take extensive note. Topics are straight forward and little memorization. Essays were fun and finals were easy
I took him two separate semesters. The first time I thought he was kinda rude but I signed up for MST anyways and he was not good. I have some serious medical issues that have required me to be in hospital throughout the semester and he did not want to accommodate me at all even with the blundon. He also didnt give marks back before my final.
My first course in my major program and Im feeling so discouraged. Lack of info on D2L and very unclear about deadlines and contradicts himself ALL THE TIME! You gotta be tough to get through this guy.
Dr. Citrome is a very kind professor. He answered emails fairly quickly and was helpful whenever he was asked for help. He was not an overly tough grader, but definitely requires attendance in lectures to do well. Overall, he was a good prof and I would take him again.
Dr. Citrome is genuinely one of the best profs I've ever had who was able to pierce through the shackles of remote learning. He gives good feedback, he's funny, animated, caring, poignant and everything an English prof should be.
Citrome is easily one of my favourites. The course was made up of novels instead of textbooks, the course was graded by only a few essays. His lectures are always fun to listen to he is always passionate about what he's talking about. He is clear with what he wants, and he is always up for giving some extra clarification outside of class.
Absolutely love Citrome. The lectures are so fun and he always makes it interesting. The only drawbacks are that hes a hard grader and its hard to get a hold of him. Overall I really recommend taking one of his classes.
I see so many people saying he was rude which truly baffles me because I have NEVER experienced anything like that, nor have my friends who have also taken his courses. His lectures really get you into what he's saying, he is very accessible outside of class, he does not use D2L much, however, that is easy to deal with as long as you attend class.
amazing prof
I've taken this dude a number of times, and he never disappoints. He struggles with modern technology like D2L so beware. But other than that I literally have no complaints about this guy.
Wonderful prof! Very funny and smart and engages with the class in every way possible. Short books, and not very tech savvy, but he ensures he goes over everything you need to know to succeed in his course! You HAVE to show up and you must read the books. He struggles with emails and D2L, but other than that he is fantastic
He is a very slow grader. Don't expect your work to be handed back before your next essay. He straight up told me his other classes are his priority because he does not like teaching online. He takes forever to respond to his emails, that is if he does respond. Although the material was fun, his lack of participation was hard.
Dr. Citrome's materials were very interesting. Just read the books, attend classes regularly and you'll pass. He is a pretty tough grader for his essays, especially if you don't follow his class notes but he cares for his students. He never missed my emails and was ready to help in his office. He was also flexible with deadlines sometimes
citrome wasnt great. While his lectures were interesting, he was a very harsh grader and picked favourites based on participation in class. He wont call on you but does expect people to participate in class. If you do badly on one assignment, dont expect to do any better on the rest of them, he picks one grade for u and sticks with it. would avoid
hard grader, wants things done his way and only his way. is very interesting to listen to and keeps the class entertaining. lots of readings that need to be done. he also offers extra credit at the end by redoing an essay
If you want to learn a lot about English Dr. Citrome is a great option. If you want an easy good mark than he is not. Very nice and understanding prof. Classes are enjoyable and valuable. Essays and projects were very hard for a entry level English course. Lots of reading!
Good prof but very tough grader and has a tendency to belittle. the course is not graded by many things.
If you'd like to learn the basics of English, more specifically the main sentence structures, Dr. Citrome will most certainly be able to help you. Recalling and using the sentence structures was factored into all assignments although if you want to pass, you need to read the book. To get a good grade, you'll also need to attend all classes.
This was the first time that Dr.Citrome taught this course and it was the first time that I had him as a professor. I really liked him! I liked hearing him talk about the course content and he tried to make it interesting.
I absolutely loved this professor. I have taken 4 courses with him till date and they have been by far the most enjoyable courses of my degree.
He's AWESOME. Best professor ever. He is very articulate & every word he speaks is pure gold (make detailed in-class notes, trust me). Do not miss a single lecture, he tests based on his lectures. He will condense readings for you with notes to make it easy so you don't have to read so much. SO FUNNY. Lenient test grader, harder on assignments.
I did English 1090 with Dr. Citrome, overall he is a very kindhearted man and provides great feedback! He's also very quick to respond to emails and will help you with whatever you may need, even if you miss a lecture. He is very particular with sentence structure and grading essays, but I think it's good for being introduced to university writing.
Hands-down, one of the best prof I had the pleasure of having. This is the second course that I've had with him, and he is absolutely phenomenal. Attendance is 98% mandatory, because it's the best (and perhaps only) way to grasp course content. 10/10 recommend for student who like in-person classes.Clear grading rubric, &provides amazing feedback.
Amazing! No other words can sum up this guy! Understood personal academic struggles and was very forgiving. This guy made reading enjoyable for me.
He is a really nice guy, and amazing teacher! He cares about his students and he is fantastic at explaining concepts. He tends to over explain a bit, but that was fine for a first year course.
he is very good at giving advice but it can be a lot at times
He is great at explaining things and is fair with deadlines, always ready to help during office hours and outside of class time and gives great feedback. However he can be a pretty hard grader and the course is graded on few things.
Harsh grader, some test are okay others are ridiculous because he doesn't explain layout and he complains about proper grammar and things to include within your essay but yet he doesn't explain how to do those things.
From day one, Professor Citrome taught us the grammar skills needed to excel in this course. His assessments were more than fair, as he reiterated in what seems like every lecture the main steps and layout you needed to follow in order to receive an A grade. Pretty much, if you read the novels and went to lectures, he made it very easy to do well.
It is literally impossible to do well in this course. Every single essay I submit I do bad on, even if i ask him for help. I actually don't know how to get above a 60. Do not take this prof
Do not recommend.
I've had Dr. Citrome for a handful of English courses now with good experiences each time. People don't realize how neutered first year English courses are nowadays. Tests consisted of writing single sentences or a 3 paragraph paper. Essays were ~1500 words and takehome. Citrome did enough in class. I fear for the literacy of high school students.
Professor Citrome is a great teacher who really cares about his students. The class is challenging, but engaging. Attending lectures and using resources like unstuck AI for study prep are key to doing well.
Was a very tough grader, has a tendency to belittle and make you feel pretty dumb. Has way too high of expectations of his students, especially considering its a FIRST YEAR english course. I had a 98% average in english all through highschool & struggled to get 70s. Made us read 5 full novels so if you're not a reader then dont take his course.
This is the second course I've taken with Dr. Citrome and I love him. he doesn't post notes so showing up and taking your own is mandatory because he marks based on how much your essays and tests reflect the course concepts.
Citrome is a great prof who cares about his students. His lectures are interesting and well organized, and he does review classes. I found him to be a fair grader. I will say regular attendance is required to do well in his course, as notes aren't posted on Brightspace. Poetry heavy.
My first time with Jeremy. It was fantastic. I never enjoyed English until his class. His lectures made me understand the material and why it was written. He made me want to attend all the lectures. Grades were decent throughout the term, and it's all down to him. I recommend you take his classes. He is a great lecturer.
Do not recommend!!! I came out of high school with high marks in English, I never received any marks higher than 75, even after getting him to review my work. Citrome's lectures were very dry and hard to understand his expectations. Had us read Narnia and relate it to feminism in WW2, without any outside research, besides from the print he provided
He was great! Went in deep with the material and was clear on tests and grading expectations. Good for if you like to just listen and take notes.
