He's very full of himself, always refer to his research. His exams are unfair, doesn't allow you to answer any questions during exam. The distribution with lecture and textbook isn't even on the exam. Short answer(lecture base)and multiple choice(textbook base). He doesn't cover many things that are core material for this course. Scales your grades
Tests were fair and lectures were interesting BUT I get the impression that U of W is not his dream job. He turns off the charm outside of class, seems cold and unapproachable. It's too bad because he's a great lecturer. Enthused about the field, lukewarm about our humble school?
Lectures were very good and interesting. Was really good at making the class interactive and interesting. You could tell he knew a lot about the topic and was easy to approach. I like how he knew the other researchers and psychologists in some of the studies he showed. It helps put a face to the studies. Tests were pretty hard though.
Good lecturer. Powerpoints interesting and lots of visual aids(videos and short clips) that help the learning process. iClickers are mandatory(part of the grade) and textbook use is great, he assigns only some pages so you dont have to read unnecessary stuff.
Very unapproachable. Very full of himself. Hated him as a person, but really liked him as an educater. Great classes, could tell he put a lot of work into making the classes enjoyable.
I really enjoyed going to this class, professor Frimer did a great job at keeping it interactive and very interesting, though his test are fairly difficult and sometimes it can be unclear what he is looking for his long answers.
Lectures are interactive, interesting and on topic. Exams are hard but he has made them fair with the use of Z scores.
Dr. Frimer is tough but fair. Excellent lectures, it's a great 8:30 class. He is passionate about making the subject matter applicable. His tests are difficult and put emphasis on interpreting the information and critical thinking. He curves the grades (thank goodness!) and is fair and helpful if you go talk to him about coursework.
He is an excellent lecturer. Class is interactive and interesting. He is very passionate about his field and makes the topic relevant and applicable. His tests are difficult, but easy credit through Iclicker and online assignment (My Virtual Child) makes up for it.
Great class! His lectures were diverse, interactive, and interesting. He did not just lecture straight out of the textbook, but applied the concepts in flexible and interesting ways. He was passionate and available for future discussions if you desired.
The class material was interesting and he provided helpful interactive exercises. I did not feel that the exam material tested what I knew properly.
Dr Frimer knows his stuff, he tried to make the class interesting, his powerpoint were useless after class cuz some of the explanations for d graphs/pictures were missing. his exams are pretty difficult and confusing although his online assignment helped. if you do not plan to be extra serious den don't take any course with him.
His enthusiasm for the course material was great. Also the activities we did in class helped with understanding the course.
Very engaging and interactive lectures
excellently formatted spring course. very knowledgable, very organized, lectures are dynamic and engaging. exams are tough but he prepares you well. really great choice for an elective.
His lectures are very interesting! He uses videos, animations etc. in his powerpoints. His exams were tough. He's funny and he does a great job of keeping you interested in his lecture. Very satisfied and highly recommended!
Hard to figure out what will be on long answer questions in tests. Its like you are trying to read between the lines. Seems approachable but actually very unapproachable. Likes to assert some sort of power issue over students. Needs to work on being less imperious towards students. Otherwise good prof. Personally wouldn't take again.
Frimer is an interesting prof and he has engaging lectures. He's not approachable at all at a one on one level and is not helpful. He's a good teacher but not a nice person. Not what I expected from the way he's so friendly when he teaches. I think he feels like he's far more intellectual than uofw deserves.
If you go to every class you will do fine on exams. If you don't attend class you will most likely door very poor.
Probably the best prof I've had so far.I could just listen and understand. The amount of effort that he puts into his lectures shows. I enjoyed his class and plan on taking his honours course. If you read this Dr. Frimer, thank you for a wonderful learning experience. You constantly challenged my way of thinking and I believe that was the point.
the prof is really engaging, and encourages other opinions and questions in his lecture, always trying to change your point of view by the end. It shows that he puts a lot of work into his lectures. If you go the class and read the textbook, the exams are fair. Expect a challenging, engaging, interesting course.
Dr Frimer teaches the way ALL university profs should teach. He's the bee's knees. Frimer is engaged and engaging, clearly very interested and knowledgable in what he's teaching. He actually seems to want you to LEARN in his classes. Critical thinking is required but tests are fair. If you want to skip class and memorize a textbook, look elsewhere.
This is a fantastic class. Dr. Frimer will keep you engaged and entertained the whole class while making you feel like you truly understand the concepts. He teaches in a way that makes me wish he taught all of my courses. You must attend class at least most of the time to do well.
Loved him and the course! His lectures were SO engaging and they were always clear and organized. I'm super surprised to read that some reviewers say his long answer questions are confusing, as long as you go to all his classes and listen they are very clear and easy to get full marks on! If you go to class you'll do great & actually learn a lot.
Dr. Frimer is a fantastic lecturer and clearly puts a lot of effort into his presentations to make them interesting and engaging. I always looked forward to classes but his one-on-one mannerisms come off as arrogance. Also the course content was very similar to his version of personality psych. Feel like I wasted my money taking both courses.
Dr. Frimer is an great professor. He is SO passionate about his work, clearly loves what he teaches and cares about his students. His passion for what he teaches is what makes his lectures so interesting. You won't regret taking his classes!
Dr Frimer lectures helped bringing educational and personal awareness level to a higher level. Lectures were also interesting and interactive.
Dr. Frimer is one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are interesting and engaging. You can easily see how much effort he puts into his work and how much he cares about his students. We need more professors like him. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Very invested in his class meaning wonderful detail and enthusiasm to what he covers. I only had to talk to him a couple times outside of class and he was approachable/friendly. He responded to my emails quickly. Overall my favorite class this year!
I slide was sufficient for the course, directing students to buy the text book was not helpful at all. of all you did a good job Professor Frimer. Thanks
I think most of the people commenting about how great he is did not speak to him one on one. He's not a very nice person, seems like he thinks he is better than everyone. Hard to believe since he is SO nice in his classes. Classes are very engaging and interesting otherwise. Fun class, easy pass. Show up for class and exams will be easy.
Frimer is a great lecturer, classes are engaging and interesting, and he puts thought and effort into his lectures, which is highly appreciated. His research is on motivation, ironically, as I am very curious as to his motivation for being so obviously cold to his students. If you don't like our school, please don't take it out on your students.
In the beginning, I saw him as fun, exciting, interesting, and good looking. Lectures were interactive and got everyone thinking creatively. However as the term went on, his narcissistic personality ruined his physical looks. Especially disappointed when told we were not allowed to ask for clarifications on our exam questions. Barely used textbook.
Rude, condescending professor. Lectures are engaging and interesting but he is NOT a nice person, encouraging or helpful. His rude narcissist personality will keep me from every taking his class again. Also good luck on getting any clarification on exams.
He takes his lectures very seriously and you'll be impressed by the obvious amount of planning involved. He has high expectations of his students which he'll make you aware of, but isn't aloof. It's a wise idea to attend the lectures as in-class examples frequently appear on the tests. Content is thought-provoking and discussions are rewarding.
Frimer's lectures are fun, he is very clear about what he wants from students in terms of assignments and exams. Basically he helps you if you help yourself. I loved having him and I wish I had more of my degree left and could take more courses with him!
Although as a professor his teaching style is interactive and engaging, Dr. Frimer is one of the most arrogant, rude, condescending, and disrespectful humans I have ever communicated with in my life. Truly ironic that his main focus is morality psychology, because he does not have one moral bone in his body. What a disappointing abomination.
Arrogant prof. 10% of the course credit was showing up to class and taking in class polls with iclicker. Obviously to ensure class attendance, otherwise there would have been no point in showing up to class. An easy credit. Gained no real knowledge. Tests are multiple choice, fill in blank, and long answer.
Not a very good prof... Extremely full of himself and not approachable. Class material was very interesting but he makes lectures less enjoyable.
He is no doubt an engaging and charming lecturer however, his condescention and obvious contempt for the university is apparent. His advice might even be good but his delivery is so mired in arrogance it doesn't come through. He made me cry in a meeting and seemed pleased by this. Maybe he is interested in morality psych in an attempt to find his?
Never again will I take this child's class. Never have I had a prof more full of himself and less interested in anyone else's opinion. All he wants is you to parrot back his thoughts . Avoid at all costs if you you have any thoughts of your own
his lectures are really incredible and he is always open to suggestions and comments from students. He wants feedback so that he can improve his class. This class was also super interesting! the exams were sometimes tricky but he tests right off the slides and podquizzes so if you study hard enough you wont be surprised.
LOVED this course, Frimer is a wonderful professor who gives you tons of opportunities to get the most out of his course and finish with an A, he really does want you to do well. No textbook required and lectures are very interesting and easy to follow - would definitely take a class with him again! One of my favourite profs I've ever had.
Great prof. Reasonable and will help you get a grade youre satisfied with, as long as you are putting in effort.
Hes an amazing prof, the class is very interesting and unique. There are a bit of hard concepts but Dr. Frimer does explain them well using some form of activity( electronically so u stay unanimous) which is not only fun but does help you understand the concept thats being taught. No need for text books and for that reason you need to attend.
This course was by far the best course I have taken in university. Topics are interesting and eye-opening. I appreciate how unbiased he is and how he looks at both sides of the argument. 10/10 prof. Wish he taught more courses!
This class was one my favourites I've taken in university and Dr. Frimer is one of my favourite profs. He's genuinely enthusiastic about the content and he puts a ton of effort into preparing the lectures. He wants you to do well and is extremely fair on exams. The interactiveness of the class keeps it very interesting every day.
Having read the old reviews I can say that Dr. Frimer has learned from his mistakes. Instead of making students buy textbooks he assigned free podcasts periodically. Participation in this class completely relied on IClicker which is easy to do and good for some of the shyer students. He is very respectful and interesting to listen to. Great prof!
Uses I clicker as an interactive tool in class discussions. Posts notes online, but not all the slides are in the notes. Make sure to print the notes and write on them so you know whats in the slides and what isnt. Gave the students many opportunities to improve our grades. Would definitely take more classes by him
Used iclicker which i loved. We didn't have to buy a textbook so everything on test was from in class. We also had to listen to podcasts which were super interesting to listen to. Honestly one of the easiest courses i have taken and the topics are super interesting. Dr. Frimer was great.
Great Prof! The tests are a little tricky but the lecture content is fabulous!
Stimulating class, interesting and relevant topics
This was my favourite class and favourite Prof ever! The topics covered in class were thought provoking and very interesting! So many times I left class thinking about what we discussed or looked up more information on the topic. Wish I could take this class again! The material was taught in a very engaging and modern way as well!
Social issues is by far my favourite class I have taken at in my 4 years at the u of w. Professor is great, material is super interesting and actually makes you think about stuff that is going on in the real world. Podquizzes and tests were all fair.
I personally really enjoyed this class, It was a pleasure to attend classes and I looked up to the podcast we had to listen to. overall really good.
Definitely, the most engaging and inspiring course I have taken in my academic career. Professor Frimer is extremely passionate about the material and it leads to inspiring lectures that change the way you think about numerous social issues. I highly recommend this class for anyone who has the opportunity.
Awesome class! Although attendance was a marked part of your grade, going to class was not a chore. Lectures were always stimulating, interesting, and you learned something from each one. Best part was no textbook, instead had interesting podcasts to listen to throughout the semester. Would recommend!
Great class! Frimer was interesting, highly knowledgeable, and respectful. I wish this class was mandatory for more students, as it really opens your eyes to current issues. Awesome having no textbooks, the podcasts in place of readings were fun to listen to. Lectures were stimulating and also fun to attend. Take this class!
Amazing prof. Really enjoyed all of his lectures, tries to be fair and works hard to make sure that his students are interested and engaged. Probably the most stand-up prof I have ever had. He really works to make sure his students succeed. Best class I've ever taken.
Dr. Frimer is one of the best profs I've ever had at university. His lectures were really interesting and engaging. You do need to study for the exams but for the most part they're fair. There was a lot I learnt about the world around me and I would definitely recommend this class and this prof to other students.
Awesome and engaging lectures, he uses iclicker that counts for participation marks so you must go to class, plus you get EWP. Only downside is hes pretty rude and arrogant and like weird when you try to ask him a question??
Listen, Jeremy Frimer is a rare gem that we must protect at all costs. Yall that dont like him are just mad that he wont stroke your ego. And why should he? As a professor, hes supposed to be OBJECTIVE, which none of you haters are. All this man does is discuss both sides objectively. Why is that such a problem? We stan Jeremy, a skinny legend!
Dr. Frimer is an incredible prof, one of the best that I've had at UofW. He's as unbiased as they come, and I guarantee that you will leave the course a more informed member of society than you entered it. I cannot recommend him enough. He gives his students every opportunity to do well, and the course material is fascinating so studying is easy.
This course is something EVERYONE needs in their life. Dr. Frimer talks about right and left wing perspectives to real life situations/issues. This course teaches you to be more open minded and question things about our society. Take this course if you want to be knowledgable about real issues we see everyday. Life changing course if you ask me.
This amazing man is outchea changing lives. I highly recommend this class if you're looking for something to take. It saves money and makes you a better person. This is one of those classes that stay with you for life. I will definitely be telling my future kids about this. You rock Frimer!
Such an awesome teacher. Covers important topics that are not covered in other classes and does his best to show the bigger picture of the topic that is being covered. I can't see why anyone would dislike his classes. I always look forward to attending his class and haven't missed a single one. I wish he would teach more courses I could take.
One of a kind professor. The content of this class is like nothing you'll get from another prof. I've recommended him to many students and will continue to do so!
Dr Frimer is an amazing prof. Lectures are pretty much smooth. He pretty much just shows studies and elaborates. Has a strict email policy but to be honest, 9/10 times you will not need to send him anything and even if you do, its a one time thing. Great guy, makes class flow easy.
I found his classes to be engaging and he does well presenting both sides of an argument. Part of the grade is based on IClicker participation so make sure you attend class and listen to podcasts, the extra 10% bonus on tests is super helpful. Make sure you know specific numbers from graphs from his slides, he asks very specific questions on tests.
He's a really cool prof. He's a fair marker, original and funny. Super easy to talk to outside of class. Passionate. Interesting. He's great.
This was honestly the best course Ive ever taken in 4 years of university. I love a prof who is clear on their expectations of students. Dr. Frimer is clearly a very caring person and wants student to succeed. Lectures were amazing. Clearly he put a lot of work into them. No textbook. Pod quizzes were a fun change. Tests were challenging but fair.
His class was probably the best class Ive ever had. You have to study to pass tests well but nothing to bad. I highly recommend this professor!
Dr. Frimer's course was the most rewarding course I have ever taken. I learned and gained more in this course than my total university education combined. Yes, you have to show up to class and be diligent with your notes, but he is fair and the information is interesting and valuable. Incredible!
Dr. Frimer is an amazing professor! His lectures are always entertaining and he makes the material actually fun and interesting. I had him for my second term and I can say with confidence that he is the only reason why I didn't drop out of the course in the first term (as I had a different professor who was rather boring). Makes Psych 1000 worth it
Amazing. He cares about his students. Makes lectures and material fun and relatable. Participating matters but is fun. Funny would def recommend. Really was amazing compared to first half.
Great Prof. Gives extra credit. Actually very much enjoyed this class. the material and way of teaching. You can tell how passionate he is about his work.
Such a nice guy, I would take him over and over he was considerate of what the class thought and made the content interesting.
Dr. Frimer was an amazing prof, especially for a first-year course. The textbook is free. Majority of marks come from tests and class participation using iclicker. He also does little quizzes or tests called TIPS for extra credit. Pay attention during class and read the textbook and you will pass!
Passionate about his work. Able to use his lectures as a way to spread awareness and not go off topic. Very little work IMO - just show up for class and read the online "textbook" (short reads). iClicker is a great way to engage and stay focused - you earn points that go towards your grade! Make sure to keep track of dates for quizzes (once a week)
Does many small quizzes rather than exam-style tests. Really cares about your success and tries to make the class as easy as possible as well textbook is a free online version. Participation is 30% of your grade. Really enjoyed his class and will be taking his courses again next year. Best professor I've had so far!
One of my all time favourite teachers ever. He is so clearly passionate about his work and you can tell he loves what he does. Highly recommend taking Frimer for a psychology class, I definitely will again in the future. Love the multiple short tests worth 5% each instead of a couple heavy % exams. Could not recommend more.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Had multiple tests throughout the whole semester worth small %, made it easy to focus on each chapter in detail. Made class very enjoyable & easy to stay focused. Participation is worth a large chunk of the overall grade but questions were mainly opinion based, easy marks. Overall a really enjoyable class!
First year student at UofW, and he was the best prof so far. We had a quiz around every week or two, but they were open book and the active learning of the topic made it easy to remember. Participation marks were easy to receive and over all, his classes were never boring.
Very encouraging and provides extra credit, free textbook and open book tests.
If you have the opportunity to take a course with Frimer, take it! He is an excellent prof who makes all his lectures fun. You can also tell he genuinely cares about his students and their success. With all the extra credit and other assignments he does in class, it is nearly impossible to walk out of his class with a failing letter grade.
Seemed annoyed most of the time and like he doesn't care about students.
His way of teaching was very fun and unique, and gave us a lot of opportunity to get extra marks to boost up our overall grade. Tests and exam were all online. Wish he had other psych classes tbh.
DON'T TRUST THE RATING!! He doesn't care about you, thinks he's woke but isn't, & tests on irrelevant things. In theory, getting a good grade should be easy bc it's 70% tests with games every class for Test Insurance Points (his own invention) But if you miss iClicker polls, your attendance (30% of course grade) goes down. AVOID JEREMY AT ALL COSTS
If you haven't taken a class with Frimer yet, RUN to go sign up. By far the most interesting, engaging, and inspiring class i have taken. Frimer provides a free online textbook, and engages his students through iClicker to actively participate in lectures. There are 14 online tests, very reasonable if you study.
One of the best classes I have taken at the UofW! He uses iClicker to engage his students (participation marks!!) and is very reasonable. Frimer dives into uncomfortable topics and deals with them thoroughly, and respectfully while providing solutions to help us better understand controversial issues. Would highly recommend any of his classes.
This class and all his classes are graded by open book tests after each chapter and iClicker questions that you just need to participate in to get credit for. Because of this, you have to go to class. He is very political but if that doesn't bother you his classes are an easy A. Lots of games for extra credit that bump up marks.
Dr. Frimer is the best professor I have ever had! He comes prepared with a clear cut plan of what he is going to teach in class and he is amazing at making us understand complex themes. I greatly enjoy the Test insurance points that he gives us as they give us the incentive to actively learn and participate in class activities. He's strict but fair
Awful. Showed us an incredibly disturbing video in class detailing police brutality and got annoyed when the class was rightfully taken aback. Generally rude, doesn't seem to care much about his students, and is unpleasant to staff and students alike. Avoid.
Amazing prof, love the use of TIPs and the joy you can tell he has in teaching. Most of the grading is based on participation and short tests, (no exams!)
Puts in lots of effort, makes learning and participating enjoyable
Frimer's Psychology course featured clear PowerPoints, engaging examples, optional attendance. iClicker was used for learning purposes rather than grading, with incorrect answers still counting towards participation. I really appreciated the TIP (test insurance points) opportunities, which end up benefiting the students later in the course.
The worst prof ever!!! Has no consideration of student's circumstances and is rude in all emails. No wonder he's not returning to teach. Avoid him if you can !
Best course at UofW. No boring lectures, textbooks, readings, exams. I agree - hard to approach, and blunt - but he stated numerous times he has anxiety. The time and effort he put into lectures makes up for it. Was looking forward to future courses with him but he is leaving - hope he changes his mind! I'd pay higher tuition to be taught by him!
Dr. Firmer is an amazing prof. I'm sad to see him go. He seems very passionate about what he teaches and teaches things more profs want to stay away from. If he decides to stay in academia, I would highly recommend taking his classes. His lectures are very engaging and you are expected to engage via iClicker. Definitely one of my favourite profs.
Had DR.Frimer for second half of intro psych and now for 2430. great guy, great lectures, rewards effort and make it easy to succeed. thankful to have been taught by him while I had the chance!
My kind of class, loved the TIP opportunities, Dr Frimer was very passionate about what he taught. Overall great class
Prof a lil weird about certain political issues but he chill
Really interesting lectures, you can tell he puts time and effort into making class interesting with multiple experiments, incorporating fun ways to learn. Relatively easy to keep up with material, made my first university semester less stressful as a full-time student. Loved hearing his insights on things, seems very educated on all topics covered
Frimer's lectures were good and engaging, and I love the concept of test insurance points (TIPS). The only thing we were graded by are unit quizzes, which are online and open book. If you do poorly, the TIPS you collect throughout the course decreases the value of low scores while increasing the value of high scores
He has been the BEST prof I've had in university so far. He's very chill and funny. Lectures are entertaining and interesting. Very easy to pass and no exams. HIGHLY recommend!
Dr. Firmer is literally the best im only half way through the 6 credit course but he genuinely is one of the best lecturers I think. He makes the material super easy to understand and grading is easy, just online times tests after each chapter. They're simple and easy to do well on. He also does tips, where you can eliminate your worst mark. 10/10
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR ! HE MAKES PSYC SO MUCH FUN. I have gotten a new interest in social psyc because of his lectures during the social psyc section of out classes! Unfortunately he is no longer teaching for the rest of the term due to a emergency. But for the first 25% of our class when he was able to be teaching us, was the best uni class ever.
