Online homeworks are required, LOTS of technical difficulties. His lectures are very boring, he just reads stuff off powerpoints the whole time.
Mason is a very good teacher. I had never taken chemistry before when I took his class, I was scared of failing but he advised me to use as much office hours as I can use to come to him for help. And it worked I stay on top of my homework ,and studied alot and it paid off. I enjoy chemistry alot may because it has alot of Maths in it and Mason .
I believe this teacher is incredibly knowledgeable but does not quite know how to articulate well. He is extremely fair in his grading. His tests are not that hard if you study and stay on top of your stuff. I missed the last 3 or 4 weeks of class and got a B in the class. His lectures are boring but he will help you during office hours if needed.
His class is very straightforward: you learn 3 chapters and take a test, then another 3 chapters and a test?no surprises. In order to make a good grade you must have total understanding of all concepts. Review all of your tests before the final. Many questions on the final come word for word from the tests you take throughout semester.
Greatest Chem professor EVER!!!!
Professor Mason has been the best I have had at Tech. I have no interest in chemistry but I found his lectures interesting and he is funny! Studying is necessary but he makes the material easier to understand. I would recommened him to everyone.
Class was a little hard, but damnit he was good at what he did. The online homeworks made it easier to understand the class. He talks loud and clear, and puts things in a way you can understand him.
Great professor!! Gives good lectures and keeps you interested. As long as you figure out all the concepts you should do great in this class.
Really good teacher, but the class was really challenging. Attend classes, do your homework online, and do his extra credit!
Good Professor, fun, makes jokes and gets down to business at the same time. one of my favorite professors, the long class gets very boring but shorter classes would be the best
Loved him as my chem prof.
Extremely helpful and nice. He tried to make his class as interesting as he could, and would always try to explain things in a way everyone could understand. I really enjoyed his class, and if you work hard and go to class, you can easily make a B.
He is such a nice guy and talks about his daughter a lot. Very clear and helpful. You will get a B on your tests if you study the slides. No mandatory attendance and he gives out extra credit like crazy. All slides online. I recommend taking him.
Funny guy who loves to talk about his kids. This was his first year teaching biochem so his knowledge was spotty at times, but he relied pretty heavily on the textbook and that's where most (if not all) the info on his slides came from. Online homework was very easy, but his tests were kinda all over the place. Next few years should be better.
All he does his talk about his kids and read straight from the powerpoints.
Good professor! He tries to help his students best he can. Class is not a blow off and you have to put a good amount of studying in to get a good grade. But overall it pays off. Definitely Recommend.
This class is so easy. Literally had no knowledge of chem going into this class, and I ended the class with an easy A! A lot of people think this class is difficult, but if you can't make an A in chem 1305 you should probably just leave tech...
he wasn't very clear in his classes. i went to his office hours did extra credit studied hard and still couldn't do any better he knew i was struggling but he wouldn't help me. i got out with a D and will need to retake it. he just reads from power points and talks about his kids.
He is very nice and helpful. We were allowed to use a sheet of paper with notes for the tests, and if you are content with your grade, the final is not required. Online homework assignments are easy, and the information is clear and easy to understand. He even brought breakfast for the class once.
Jeremy really cares about each student. Chemistry itself is a hard subject but he will do his best to help you get a good grade. Very sweet guy but you do HAVE to work for your grade, study and understand the lessons taught in class.
Go to the lectures and do the homework
He loves to talk about his kids and crack jokes, and his lectures are generally helpful but you don't have to go because he usually posts all of his powerpoints online. The tests can be difficult but if you have any questions he's more than happy to help.
Jeremy Mason is a great instructor considering how difficult chemistry is. He is very proactive about helping students pass his exams.
Funny, and easy to understand. But any chemistry taken at TTU is very difficult and requires much more studying than anticipated.
Chemistry is obviously a tougher course no matter who you take or where you take it. However, I think Professor Mason did a great job explaining and teaching with such a big class. You definitely need to attend class and study if you want to make a good grade. His tests are fairly straight forward but you have to be able to apply concepts.
He was a great and funny teacher. As always Chemistry can be tough but if you attend class and study each topic you should be able to pass. If you have problems or dont understand a topic he is more than happy to explain at office hours. One thing I didn't like was the group work he makes you do on blackboard. Its not bad just annoying to deal with
Good teacher
Take it from someone who has already taken the course, and with a much more qualified professor. DO NOT take this course if you are wanting to learn anything about chemistry. I learned 5x as much last semester as I did this semester. His power points are terrible, he doesn't explain in class, and homework is so much harder than it needs to be.
Super easy class and I've never done well in chemistry. 5 tests including final, drops lowest score & all open note. Online homework is super easy and you can't get lower than a 100. Do the discussions!! Small amount of points but but huge percent of the grade. Would take him for every chemistry class if i could.
You have to show up to class if you want to pass. Attendance isn't mandatory so it's easy to skip but if you're not good at chemistry, you'll definitely fall behind that way.
Professor Mason was awesome. His lectures were enjoyable and I looked forward to going to his class. His tests can be tough but if you show up to his class and do the reviews and homework, you will get a decent grade. Definitely take him.
Mason is a horrible professor!! I would never recommend taking his class!! His lectures have nothing to do with the material on the test and he is absolutely NO help when going to his office hours!! Worst professor ever!!
Horrible!! always tried contacting him for help and he would never respond. Lectures were nothing like the tests. Reviews were nothing close to the tests.
He is enjoyable to listen to! Pretty easy course and tests. He does ramble and not get through many slides, though.
Professor Mason is a really nice guy and would always try and connect with students during class. However he rambles a lot during his lectures and his power points during class were kind of pointless for the test. His tests are pretty simple and you are allowed a cheat sheet. Homework isnt that hard either, just time consuming!
The class was an overall good class, but he goes off topic a lot and rambles about who knows what. He will just start talking to one person in the middle of class, but a random topic.
He is a good teacher who really cares about his students. If you see him in office hours, he will talk to you like a friend and help you through any problems you have. He enjoys his job a lot and that makes it so much more fun for us (his students).
The material is boring, but he trys to make it somewhat enjoyable. He puts all lectures online and attendance is optional. Tests are easy!
He is very difficult to communicate with via email. If you go in to his office hours, he will help you a lot faster. Teaches the material clear, but tests are a little different than lectures.
Professor Mason is really cool and laid back. He teaches the material in the best way possible for a challenging subject like chemistry. You have homework online after every lecture, but it's never more than 10 questions. You get several days to complete the homework assignments and you can keep trying until you make a 100. Great teacher overall
Jeremy Mason really cares about his students and their success. His class is hard, but he does a great job at making it simple. Attendance is not mandatory, BUT go to class. A lot of what the material does not make sense until he lectures on it. Tests are hard, but he helps so much in office hours. Don't buy the textbook- you won't use it.
Attendance is not mandatory, but if you struggle in Chemistry (like I do) it helps a WHOLE lot to attend. Lots of homework, but for the most part it is super easy and more there to help you out. Was a funny lecturer, and is a good prof overall!
The grading was mostly tests, so if you didnt do good on tests you wont do good. Also the reviews for tests were not very helpful. Good teacher but lectures were SO SO boring
I really liked Mason. He was definiatly a dad type of guy and very approachable. His lectures are important to go to but not mandatory. They aren't miserable to sit through and I would really reccomend going becuase it does reflect your grade. I think if you go to office hours when you're lost and do the conceptual academy you'll get the A.
Professor Mason was one of the worst professors I've ever had. His tests were nothing like the homework and what we learned in class. I stopped going to class because I was teaching myself everything anyways. His tests were super hard and even after studying all week before every test, I still did not know what was going on.
Professor Mason made class fun and enjoyable to attend, yes the homework was always harder than the tests, but if you can do the homework you can do the tests, also he's easy to talk to about questions you may not understand or missed and explains them in an easy way to understand. Don't skip class if you do you will not understand the homework.
Funny guy, but not a fun class to take. Granted, chemistry classes as they are are mostly difficult. Doesn't help that it was online either with one recitation a week. However, some of the information that was covered in the physical class, he did not do well on explaining the difficult stuff slow and easy.
He's funny and explains everything well. Tests are hard but there are only 3 and if your final is higher than a regular test it will be replaced. lots of homework but easy if you keep up. He will always answer questions after class and is super nice about simple questions.
Although chemistry can be hard, he explained it to where it was easy to understand. He was always willing to help if you ever have questions. He tried his best to make what he was teaching interesting with jokes. The homework after every lecture helped to see if you grasped the materiel he taught. Really one of my favorite professors.
Mason is a great professor to have whether you're knocking out a core requirement or getting a mandatory science out of the way. Clear lectures. Easy homework. Fair grading. Extra credit on exams. There wasn't much beyond what's taught in high school AP chem from what I could tell. Great science class for non science majors. Would recommend.
The 2 classes i took with Mr. Mason were very heavy lectured but also very easy to understand and follow along. Make sure you go to class for your attendance grades and take notes.
Jeremey is a great professor and really cares about his students. He is willing to work with his students. If you go to class and pay attention, the material is very easy and he gives a study guide for each test. The best professor I've had at Tech.
such a cool dude, really caring too. his class is difficult but if you go to class & take notes youre good! study at least a day or two before tests! final is hardest but i studied a lot & got an A so its not impossible! keep notes & old tests to study for final... do homework & go to class (iclicker), they help in the end if test grades are low
Attendance is 10%, HW is 15%, the final is 27% and 3 lecture tests at 16% each. His lectures are useless, but you should go to get attendance credit. His exams come from nowhere, his powerpoints are useless, he lectures but not a single person in the class listens to what he says. You can study all you want but it doesn't matter. MAJOR FLOP!
Don't take biochem with anyone else! Mason is a great professor. He sticks to the textbook, tests are straightforward, and while he does have an attendance policy, he is pretty lenient with it. He covers around 5 chapters per test, which isn't too bad. A really nice person and it was worth going to his class. Definitely would take again.
His class is basically a free A given how much he curves exams. His powerpoints are very concise and are pretty much all you need to know for each exam. Plus homework is super easy and a free 100%. Typically the students that don't like his class are the ones that don't come to class and pay attention.
Dr. Mason just reads off of power points & leaves no time to take notes or do practice questions while in class. I relied on several other resources because of how impossible it is to learn anything during lecture. He moves at a ridiculous pace and covers surface-level topics, but then tests us on in-depth material. Not good.
I am seeing that people put good reviews for Mason & I am SHOCKED! I didn't realize I could dislike a class so much until this one. I attend lecture, take notes, & study hard for the exams, but I am still struggling. It is so clear that he doesn't understand the material. I have asked him questions on multiple occasions & NO HELP! STAY AWAY!
Mason does not know biochem so he has no business teaching it. Students ask him questions but he can't answer them. He lectures during class (attendance is mandatory) but it isn't beneficial. Read the textbook if you want to do well, but even then some of his test questions come out of nowhere. If you can, take CHEM 3310 with another professor!
Really amazing and kind professor. This class is taken mainly by athletes and is super easy. Show up to class on the discussion days (there's only like 3 the whole semester) do the homework, where you get 10 tries per question, and take the quizzes and there is no reason you shouldn't get an A! 100% recommend this class!!
He was new to teaching biochemistry but really did his best to teach us. Very approachable and always willing to help during office hours. He is also very understand and truly sees when a student puts in hard work.
I was taking his Honors Biochemistry section. The class was very small, which made interacting with the professor accessible. Even though attendance wasn't mandatory and the material wasn't hard, class was a great way to learn the material easier by asking questions. The exams were not hard at all if you understood the material.
Dr. Mason really takes the time to make sure everyone understands everything. Participation is taken for a grade based on responseware answers. Homework after every lecture, but it's easy and has unlimited attempts. No textbook, but you do have to buy access to the homework site and reponseware. You'll have no problem if you pay some attention!
It would be better to take a class about morals taught by Adolf Hitler himself than to take Chemistry with Mason. None of his tests contained material from lecture. He makes you purchase several computer applications for HW that could be done for free on Blackboard. I don't think he even cares whether you pass or fail this class.
Do not take Mason online. He is terrible and his lectures are SO boring! He makes you buy access to 3 different applications, which costs a ton of money. You really don't even use the book but still have to buy it. Do not recommend. I have learned nothing from this class. 1 STAR FROM ME!!!
Took it online, honestly it is up to you to get the grade you want. He gives you all the course material you need and gives you a study guide for the test. I would read the textbook and take notes, because the textbook is easy to read and what is covered from. Pay attention to the math and examples in class. Extra credit is offered after test.
So chemistry is not easy by any means, but professor Mason was amazing! He is such a Genuine guy. If you are struggling go to SI sessions. He also allows you to ask questions during class. There are three midterms and he gives extra credit! There is 2 homeworks due each week and a pre lecture. But he is a great professor!
This semester was difficult being fully online, and Mason did his best trying to teach chemistry just super boring online lectures. Proctorio is used for exams which raises anxiety for test takers like me. Many opportunities for extra credit and SI's are super helpful for this course.
3 tests, a final, homework, and participation is what you are graded on. tests were hard being that they were proctored but they are always all multiple choice. It was definitely my hardest class this semester but if you put in the work and effort and attend si sessions you should do well. mason was an okay professor overall.
Professor Mason is one of the most difficult professors I have had in my time in college. His reviews don't have all the information needed to go over for the exams and if you don't pass all of his exams you are likely to fail.
Chem is not my forte so I can't blame it all on Mason but he either goes really fast or mind numbingly slow and tests are extremely difficult to take. Online, tests are proctored so you can't use notes. I thought Zool with Boros was difficult-- gladly take that class over this one any day! Even studying nearly 24/7 I was never sure about my grade!
I've never been great in chemistry, but this class was pretty easy. All you have to do is show up to the lectures, do the homework that's assigned like once or twice a month (which you have ten attempts to do), and take the quizzes which are open-note. There weren't any exams nor was there a midterm or final, so this class was a pretty easy A.
I had a great experience in Mason's 1308. He was thorough in explaining concepts during lecture and always stopped to answer questions. He offered extra credit after each exam and his tests were fair. The homework load isn't too heavy and it is very helpful prep for tests. If you listen in lecture and understand the concepts, the tests are easy!
This class is difficult even if youre good at sciences. He explains things very fast and expects you to fully understand the first time and acts annoyed when questions are asked. Multiple expensive websites are to be purchased for homework, and tests are extremely difficult because the reviews have little to none of the information for the tests.
I took his class Fall 2020, and i will say this class had a lot of busy work. He makes you buy a homework code which is normal, but also makes you buy and code for just participation. HUH?? That's what zoom and blackboard collaborate is for. Proctorio just adds more stress and is invasive. SI sessions help with tests!
Hes a good professor. The test do weight for half the course so you do need to pay attention and study.
This is a weed out class, they want as many people as possible to drop. If you miss 2 exams, he said to drop his class and take it again. No retakes, no rescheduling. If someone in your family dies or you get sick on your exam day, there is straight up no mercy. Class average for one of the exams was a 62. If you get a 89.5, he does NOT round up.
This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. He is an okay professor, his lectures are very hard to pay attention to and this far into the semester our lecture hall is pretty much empty. His exams are worded extremely tricky on purpose, and even after attending SI sessions and studying I may not pass. If you fail an exam, good luck passing.
Prof Mason is so sweet! Big family man, shows pictures of his kids in class all the time. He has a very awkward sense of humor that makes lectures 10x more bearable. Short Homeworks assigned after every lecture with a few days to complete each but they're always super easy and you get 5 tries. He also gives lots of extra credit and curves exams.
I am currently in this class, and my fate and grade is looking very bleak. he is nice and all, but its hard to understand the content he is teaching, I am finding myself having to reteach everything to myself back from august. if you take this class definitely go to class, and study the material every chance you get.
super nice and funny, but lectures are boring and there is a bunch a material covered in class. you have to go to class in order to pass with a good grade.
He's a really cool dude and made learning the material interesting. If you study you'll pass.
I think Mason is a well rounded genuine guy. You have to go to the classes to understand what is going on and he uses examples he says in class on the exams so keep an ear for that. He is very interesting to listen to and is by far my favorite teacher this semester. If you are only a little interested in chem he will make you invested.
Professor Jeremy is a great professor for 1305, lectures were easily understood and better understood going to SI meetings. Provides REALLY helpful lectures & reviews before tests. The review sheet barely is on test majority of time. Someone who didn't take Chem for 2 years, this course helped if you study and is a nice guy.
The class was fine. Hes not super responsive when asking for help over email and the class often gets boring fast because of how long the lectures are
Professor Mason is a nice person, and definitely knows what he's doing. This class was my hardest class though. If you're taking chemistry with him, make sure to attend SI sessions because they do help! He does review lectures every lecture before exams, and goes over anything you ask about. Exams are hard, so show up to class!!!
Most of his exam questions are meant to trick you or cover material that he said under his breath/as an aside one time. He will emphasize a particular equation/subject in class and on reviews and suggest you spend hours studying it--then it's just one question on the exam. I liked the class but the exams are nightmarish.
Professor Mason is a very nice guy and explains material from the PowerPoint very well in class. I would come to class every day and I understood what he was explaining. However, when it came time for the exams everything from the class was the bare minimum to pass. All exams had trick questions and things that I have never heard before.
Prof. Mason is a very down to earth. However this class was a little bit of a nightmare. He will cover the things needed for the exam but expect you to apply what he teaches further beyond what is discussed in class, and test you on that. I pulled all nighters, attended SI sessions and still struggled. Take this class elsewhere if possible.
I am normally a straight a student but this class was the hardest class I have ever taken. It doesnt matter how much you study the exams are so hard I didnt pass any of them. None of the answers to homework is online. Overall hes a nice guy but he doesnt cut you any slack when it comes to grades.
Professor Mason is overall a good teacher and person. If you go to class, you will have a much higher chance of succeeding in the course. Sometimes he can explain topics in a way that is much more complicated than it needs to be which can be confusing at times.
We had 3 exams and a few homework assignments a week. We werent allowed to retake these exams and if you failed 2, you had to drop the class. Sometimes he gave extra credit but my grades got better when I stopped going to his classes and went to tutoring instead. Not a good teacher, very stressful experience.
fail the homework, you fail the class. he puts the homework grades in cumulatively at the end of the semester. he's such a late grader and that's how i failed his class. tears were shed, late nights spent on homework, etc. stay on top of your homework, there is no extra credit. go to SI because he teaches straight out of the book. good luck.
I took his class fall '21 and he is a good/bad professor. I passed because I went to SI sessions but I would've failed if I didn't go. I only chose him because he had a better rating than the other chem 1305 prof. As long as you study before tests, go to SIs, and actually go/pay attention to lectures you can pass. Also make sure you do all the hw!
If u want to make an A , you MUST like Must go to All classes, SI sessions, do the conceptual academy religiously!! I also read the textbook which for sure helped. he does round the grades up at the end of semester, but not by much. I highly suggest studying bc i stayed up all nights to make an A!
There are no exams and just weekly homeworks, and rarely quizzes. I definitely recommend Jeremy. He is great and EASY.
worst class i have ever taken. no matter how hard i studied i still failed.
Jeremy Mason was by far the worst professor I have ever had. The tests are not at all like what he teaches in class or the homework. If you are good and experienced with chemistry, this might be a good class for you. For people who are not science-based, choose a different professor. I am having to retake this class and he has over a 50% fail rate.
His lectures were very boring and I did not understand what he was saying. I would recommend reading the textbook- it made a lot more sense. Most of the questions on the exams are about concepts; make sure you understand what is going on in the classes. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
He is a nice guy but strict on homework policies even though he doesn't make the policies very clear at the beginning. Make sure you do the homework and you'll be okay! He offers extra credit and 'test reviews'. Tests can be kind of hard but if you study you're good.
If you skip class you will fail, if you procrastinate you will fail.
Professor Mason is so sweet! I really enjoy his class and he helps me understand Chemistry!
There was lots of homework and the homework was extremely repetitive. His online lectures were almost always unhelpful in learning the content. He will never reopen missed assignments.
if you are a non-science major/or not that great with science take this class. No exams just homework (which you get 10 attempts to do for each question) and top hat questions. you also have a few quizzes and a discussion board or 2 which is not that difficult.
He's a good professor, but you can't miss lectures or you're going to have no idea what's going on and actually pay attention during lectures. He goes over a lot of material in one class.
Professor Mason is great! I have taken his 1305 and 1306 classes (for non-chem majors he is a top pick) Homework is simple and has many attempts, has a quiz after each chapter but they're exactly what he had on his ppts. He uses tophat for attendance. Beware dad jokes. 1306 had no exams.
He has no late policy. Do all of the work immediately and you should be fine. The problem with that is there's no way of knowing when he's going to post an assignment next. They're not on any consistent schedule. He also isn't much help during recitations. He goes through practice problems and never answers any questions about previous units. Avoid
A lot of what we had to learn was self-taught because his power points never really gave clear, step-by-step instructions on how to do things. Also, there is homework due almost every 3 days, so beware of all the homework.
I was in Honors Biochem. The class was small so we could ask a lot of questions. However, the PPTs that he used never had a lot of info so we usually read the textbook to study for exams. A really fun professor, the exams were never too hard or tricky. He gave practice exams the class before the test that gave an idea about how the exams were.
If you do not do the Achieve you will struggle to pass the class and the exams. STUDY HARD!!! Those exams are ruthless. However, if you need help he is very sweet and very understanding.
I took Jeremy's online class and did very well but it is basically self taught. Beware if you do not read or do more than the homework you fail the exams.
I took Mason for Honors Biochem in Fall 2022. He knows a lot, isn't the most enthusiastic, and his tests aren't bad. As a student studying for the MCAT I will say I wish we had done more. We didn't cover lipids, gluconeogenesis, or many other necessary biochemical processes. Overall if you're just taking his class for the credit, he's a good choice
Dr. Mason was one of those professors that are just plain good. He's very clear on what he expects from us regarding exams. They aren't too tricky, either, and he posts old exams and gives some practice questions. He gave a little extra credit after each exam based on the questions people missed. Easy to ask questions and very personable. Solid.
he's pretty good, he grades off participation on tophat so you have to be in his class to order the questions in order to reach the 70% attendance rate
Professor Mason was nice and funny but honestly a terrible professor. He reads of the powerpoint and doesn't actually teacher and his test are impossible. Would not recommend.
In lecture he just reads from the power points and doesn't really teach. Tests are very difficult and I personally don't know anyone that passed any of his tests. He gives some extra credit and there is a lot of homework so it is possible to make up for bad test grades but avoid this teacher if you have a choice.
Great guy and very understanding when it comes to personal circumstances interfering with school.
The tests are hard and there is a lot of homework. There are extra credit opportunities for every test although they are a little extensive. It is possible to get a good grade if you don't do well on the tests as long as you do the homework. He is really understanding if/when you have personal issues.
Very easy class professor is super chill if you show up to class and turn the assignments in on time it is very easy to pass especially because everything is online
Took basic chem so it wasn't that bad. Just be a good student, go to class, do the homework, go to SI when you need and study for the tests and you will be fine. Not that bad, just be a good student and its easy
Professor Mason is a cool dude and is open to help students when you have questions in lecture or during his office hours, but his lectures are boring. Chem is a hard subject to most, especially me, so be prepared to study a lot for exams if you are not already familiar with chem. Homework is assigned after every lecture and is due the next lecture
He was a great teacher was good ar lectures and exams were based on the lecture. However, it is important to study hard for exams. Homework is fairly easy as well.
Generally a nice, respectable professor with clear expectations for homework assignments and exams. He also was personable and willing to help when I came to his office hours with questions. Sometimes he does not post homework assignments until two days before they are due, and he is not very forgiving if you miss a homework assignment.
Honestly my least favorite professor I have had. This class relies so heavily on the tests and are extremely hard to pass if you are not a chemistry major or are just naturally good at chemistry. No amount of studying ever helped to pass a single one of his exams.
Easiest chem to take, test are online but lecture attendance is mandatory for credit
Professor Mason is overall a nice professor, he was never rude or anything like that however if you are not naturally good at chemistry or have little background with it you will not pass his class. He teaches directly from his PowerPoints and they are not always clear. Exams are tough and if you don't study you will fail.
Chem is a hard class itself so if you want to pass the class just put in effort and you will be fine. Do all your homework's and every extra credit opportunity he offers and go to the Si sessions when you're confused or go to his office hours. If you study hard before his tests you will be fine.
better professor for chem 1307, seems to care about students more than others, chem 1307 is a harder class so he helps, tests are made by department so they will be difficult regardless
Pretty good guy and class. Very helpful if you have questions about the home work. There is always extra credit after every exam. He arounds grades up.
Very good professor with detailed syllabus and a sense of humor.
I was nervous about Gen Chem 1, but Professor Mason was great! Tests are waited pretty heavily, but I always felt prepared; There's extra credit for each test. I took his 8 am and still felt like I learned so much. Sometimes attendance questions are taken in class. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend taking him.
Professor Mason is knowledgeable, and I gained valuable insights in his course. However, his reliance on PowerPoint with few real-world examples could be improved. While he engages the class, I felt belittled when asking questions, which conflicted with his encouragement to seek clarification. His teaching style may not suit everyone.
Jeremy Mason is a excellent teacher and by far the best chem professor I've ever had. He is very nice and funny to have lectures with and doesn't just read off information from a textbook but rather makes great slideshows with written material and images to help visualize the work. 10/10 recommend.
Keeps class interesting, makes jokes and tries to make it enjoyable unlike most professors who are just trying to get through class. Overall very nice guy and will work with you to make sure you get a good grade.
Great professor
Professor Mason has a strict teaching style, but going to class, doing homework, and using resources like ChatGPT and unstuck study can help you succeed. Exams are tough, but putting in the effort pays off.
I loved Prof. Mason! As someone who was never great at chem in HS, he made the concepts much easier to understand and I have received an A+ on all his exams. He's really passionate about the concepts, but it is important to study because the tests are not easy and weighted very heavily (16% x 3 and 22% for final exam). Overall, very worth it!
I attended all classes and worked hard, but the instructor mainly read slides and referred questions to SI. Exams didn't align with reviews and were ambiguously worded, making it difficult to succeed. Despite good grades on assignments, I scored 58 on the final, just 0.8 points from passing. I hope the course can be improved for future students.
This class was extremely hard. His lectures made no sense, and the tests were extremely hard. The reviews had nothing to do with the exams, which are a huge chunk of your overall grade. It is very hard to pass this class.
Professor Mason is a great person who seems understanding. However, the course was challenging due to his teaching style, as practice exams and learning objectives didn't align with the actual exams. Flashcards I made (contained most of his slides) and SI prep were helpful, but homework and exam prep weren't, and he often focused on details.
He was a good professor, the most helpful thing about the class was the LA's who walked around to help with practice problems and the study sessions outside of class. I just, in general, suck at chemistry, but that's not his fault. attendance isn't technically required, but part of your grade is based on the practice problems in class
I've learned a lot from Professor Mason's lectures, and I hope you can too. Although I must say that the exams become increasingly more difficult, they take up about half of your overall grade, and the only advice I have is attend SI and look over your notes several times.
Professor Mason made chemistry so fun to learn! I thought his class was relatively easy especially if you attend class as well as SI. The one thing I didn't like about his class is how much he stressed the importance of math when the tests were very conceptually heavy. Other than that he is funny!
Prof. Mason's lectures were awesome; very informative as well as engaging, and made what most people deem a boring subject not boring at all. My only complaint is that this class is VERY test heavy, accounting 70% in total, so study up as much as possible.
Chemistry has never been my thing, but I aced this course. Prof. Mason offers plenty of tools to succeed, but you have to put in the work. Exams are 70% of your total grade, however, if you study thoroughly using his slides and go to SI & his office hours, you will likely do well. He also offers plenty of extra credit opportunities!
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. The rating I gave was EXTREMELY generous. Sure, this is a beginner chem class, but I had to teach everything to myself. Being a student who has to work while attending college is difficult, but there is no doubt that you will not succeed in this class unless you are able to attend SI sessions.
He was honestly Okay. DO YOUR ASSIGNMENTS it will help you get a better grade to pass the class. I am glad this is the last chemistry I have to take but overall study hard when exams are around the corner.
He was nice and informative but tons of assignments and lots of material
I honestly did not like prof mason at all. Do your homework it will save you and get you to pass if your doing bad at exams. He moves extremely fast during lecture and when he asks if we understand the concept, majority will say no and he will just move on. I pay attention and never miss class and he just did not work for me. Never answeres emails.
Terrible weird proffessor. Tests are awfully hard. he teaches slideshows which dont help at all. a ton of external links in this class he doesnt tell you about and no extensions or grace no matter what. Take online he is terrible and you will fail
SUPER super easy class. The homework assignments and quizzes are a breeze (even though the homeworks are a bit long), and you only have 3 writing assignments and they're all really straightforward. And the best part? No exams!
I did not enjoy his teaching style at all. His lectures were never engaging and his tests are not like the lectures or homework. If you could take someone else, I would.
His lectures are very boring. He flies through math parts fast and barely gives example problems. There is lots of homework due all the time and they're long so beware. The tests are pretty easy but you must study a lot. Other than that, TopHat is a good way to get your grade 5 points higher! He also replaces your lowest exam score with the final.
Obviously one of, if not THE easiest class he teaches. Every hw assignment and quiz is very straight to the point. You have 3 writing assignments, all of which you need to put at least some degree of effort into but they should not take up all of your time. This course is very easy to pass.
He was a good teacher and he is really funny my one issue is that he over explains in such an easy class to the point that I over analyzed some of the topics, which made me more confused. The homework is easy and straightforward, but the test was hard. I am not very good at chemistry to begin with, so I attended the SI sessions, which helped a lot.
