He makes the class enjoyable. It is not difficult to do extremely well in the class, but you do need to put forward a little effort. Just participate durring discussions and do the readings and it is an easy A. Exams are not hard at all.
He is the best teacher I have had thus far at OU. His lectures and discussions are extremely clear, and he is always open to students interpretations and opinions. Also, he is very engaging and relatable to students. I have decided to take another philosophy class this next quarter specifically to have him as a teacher.
Calls on students who don't raise their hand. There was a huge curve at the end so if you come to class you are pretty much guaranteed a good grade.
Extremely unclear. He acted like there was a lot of work to the class and you have to understand philosophy clearly to get a good grade, but that isn't the case. Just show up to class and try to understand what he's talking about and you'll get and A.
good prof...helps a lot, u have to work hard though. pretty hot too.
Wow. This class is insanely difficult! Talking in circles, tons of complex material, random/essay exams, no grade buffer. Jeremy's a great guy, really funny, & tries to be helpful, but a lot of the coursework's too advanced for a 101 class. While other sections are doing basics, 90% of our class is clueless or worried. He does grade easily though.
Great Prof!!! Tough class though...expect to do a lot of work. He's really good at explaining the stuff though. Definitely worth taking his class...the stuff he teaches is pretty cool too.
Generally mediocre teacher. Sometimes his notes are hard to follow, you have to write what he says, not just what is on the chalkboard. Gives exams unexpectedly, but not as many as he'll make you think he will (we had two). Makes you feel nervous about exams. Attendance is necessary. Cheap textbook. Nice guy.
Anyone who thinks that this guy ISN'T a good professor is an idiot. He is the epitome of the kind of teacher you always wish you could get. This guy knows his stuff incredibly well, and stresses the idea that we should never take anything as fact but to question everything. Great teacher.
not that great
A generally hard class but Prof Morris tends to keep it interesting and humorous. Unannounced tests stress all of us out but he only gives out a few and will well warn and prepare you beforehand. Besides the whole pop-tests I think he is an amazing teacher who engages his students well in his discussions!
Yes, his test schedule is hard and it can be stressful. But he grades easy (don't let the practice exam fool you) so long as you know a few key phrases. I came into the class just for credit thinking philosophy was a joke, and learned a tremendous amount of information that's applicable to everyday life. He is a great professor.
All his exams are pop exams, so you never know when the tests are gonna be, so it kinda forces you to go to class. As long as you keep up on the readings and write down his "possible exam questions" when he tells them to you, a "B" is relatively easy. He has fairly easy grading. No reason to avoid this class if you have to take it.
Take philosophy with a different professor. However, OU is not renewing his contract next year so you will not have to worry about taking PHIL with him. He gives out questions to answer for hw, but then does not go over them or goes over them too fast and you can't even get the answers down. He gave multiple choice tests to our class.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is lazy and will not do anything to help a grade, which is currently based off of 60 points. Yes, for the entire class. He is not coming back to OU, but I would NOT hire him if ever given the chance. Funny, but an awful teacher!!!!!!!
Great prof, not sure where he's moving to, but I really enjoyed having him. Phil can be a hard subject to comprehend and he did a great job with class making sure we all followed along and we were all keeping up with the readings. Most I've learned in a class for awhile.
He seems hard at first but he pushes his students to actually learn the material. He gives pop quizzes but he gives his students multiple options to do well and he is an easy grader. He may seem unhelpful with the material but if you go to his office hours he is more than willing to help. He isn't an easy professor but he is a good one.
He's a very smart man and loves Philosophy. But he can have a hard time bringing things down to your level. He gives pop exams, but is an easy grader. He'll push you and you have to keep up with the reading, it's not a lot, but you'll defiantly need to read.
Good teacher, not great but is really passionate about what he does. He gave our class 3 exams and drops one of them. If you are worried about your grade in the class, stay involved, ask Q's, email him and go to his office hours; considered for final grade. Class can be fun and interesting and he is super funny. speaks his mind and lets the class.
Professor Morris is great at what he does. I hope that he is able to stay at OU because his class was one of the most rewarding I took. His teaching style is really motivating and encourages you to learn the information.
he thinks giving pop exams are going to help you but all this class has been for me is stress. he wont tell you what is on the exams and makes you read but doesn't thoroughly explain the readings. he can be funny and seems cool but his style of teaching is ineffective to learn the material & the class is extremely stressful. not recommended.
He gives out a lot of reading at once. Does not explain it well when you ask him nicely for help. Likes to embarrass you infront of everyone. Exams are extremely hard and he thinks you only need 20 minutes to do long exams because he can do it in 10 minutes. Too stressfull. Take it with a different professor.
He is a very down-to-earth guy and pretty funny. Yes, he gives pop exams but I was in a large class so he made them all multiple choice and they weren't difficult. He is trying to help you, not hurt you. As long as you are prepared every class you will do fine. He likes to call on people and ask questions about the reading, so make sure you read!
Pretty easy if you attend class and read. Funny guy, loves philosophy and you watch some movies in class. He randomly will call on students in class, but if you just skim over the book you will be fine.
This is the most stressful class Ive ever taken. He gives a lot of reading which is hard to comprehend then doesn't go over it. He doesn't use as much time as he should going over things. He always threatens us with pop quizzes, then barely gives them to us. The only good thing is he is definitely knows a lot about Philosophy, but thinks you do too
Don't listen to negative comments. They say he maes you read a lot and doesnt explain it. Well yes that philosophy. If he told you everything then you wouldn't learn any of the material. The whole point is to come up with your own theories. Thats philosophy
Avoid him if possible. He knows a lot about philosophy, but doesn't care to teach it. Readings need background information that he doesn't give you and he refuses to help anyone outside of class. He's great if you want to minor or major in philosophy. If it's just a gen ed requirement, take someone else.
I have had a lot of people instruct me between the army, college, etc., and Morris is the only one who has ever truly made me think not only outside the box, but outside of my own preconceptions. He assigned us 1 chapter every 2 days, which is more than manageable, contrary to what most have said. But they are rewarding books, so it's not a chore.
He would rather be doing something other than teaching, so he isn't the best person to learn from.
I would recommend finding another professor if you want to learn. He is very smart, but he moves way too fast to keep up. He teaches something and moves on before you can fully grasp the the past topic.
If you're going to take this class with him, get Adam Hogan as your TA. Morris is a bully. I did very well in the course, but I went to almost every class/discussion and did all the work. If you are looking for an easy lecture don't take him. All grades were from random unannounced quizzed. You'll have opportunities for extra credit once or twice.
Worst professor I've had by far at OU. It seems as Morris believes his class is the only one you are taking, and expects you to do endless amount of studying/work. Only grades are random quizzes all worth 100 points, even if only one question. Oh yeah and you get 5 mins for the quizzes. Compare him to an army drill sergeant for philosophy
Very hard and stressful class. He moves quickly. Grades are based on random quizzes. Attendance not mandatory but you should definitely go and do all assignments because he uses them on quizzes. TAs are very helpful in breaking down material.
You'll either love him or hate him. If your feelings are easily hurt, don't take him. If you aren't prepared to be called on in class with the expectation of having done the assignment, don't take him. If you want to know exactly what you're going to be tested on so you can disregard everything else, he isn't for you. Favorite class.
Morris is really down to earth, funny, and a wise person. However, it looks like he uses fear tactics to make sure his students pay attention by giving random quizzes and calling out on people; for some it works and some is doesn't. He makes sure you learn how to analyze an argument, but if you can't keep up he might come over as inconsiderate.
One of my favorite teachers so far. Down to earth and funny at times. I hate philosophy in general and this class wasn't that bad. This class will make you work but if you do you will benefit from it. Just GO TO CLASS or you are not going to do well.
VERY RUDE. I strongly disliked him. He enjoys embarrassing his students and calling them out if they did not do the assignment. All exams are unannounced. He is super hard. If you want an easy A, he is not the teacher you want. Avoid him if possible.
He's my favorite professor so far! Attendance is not required, but all exams are unannounced. This is good for people who skip a lot. He is as clear as possible, but really, it's philosophy so how clear can you be? The only people who tend to not like him are those who are not prepared to actually participate in the class.
Funny and highly intelligent professor, sometimes not as sensitive to everyone but he is fair. The best way to be successful is to go to each class and do the manageable assignments given. Most of the tests are unannounced, but he gives plenty of warning ahead of time!
One of my favorite classes thus far. He's incredibly knowledgeable and really wants you to do well. I don't he uses unannounced exams as a scare tactic, but rather as an incentive to go to class. The "textbook" was a pretty short intro to ethics book which is highly interesting. Read this and attend class and you will do great.
Jeremy is a great professor. People that do not like him are the people that are unprepared. It really isn't difficult, he makes what you need to know obvious so take notes. He gave us 5 tests and drops the lowest. Tests are only 20 questions, but the material is pretty easy. He basically tells you when a test is even though they're "unannounced".
Morris was a cool prof and this is a great class. The reading/homework was more than manageable (and I have 3 kids at home). The topics were very interesting and I learned a great deal. If I wasn't so close to completing my minor in Business (1 class away), I'd definitely declare a minor in Philosophy...I enjoyed it that much.
Morris is a great professor. I enjoyed his class. The material is not too difficult if you attend class and read the book (which is only 13 short chapters). He has surprise exams but drops the lowest score. At the end of the semester I had taken all the previous exams and had an A in the class so I didn't even have to take the final!
Good professor. Very knowledgable. If you are not willing to go to class, you will not pass. Grade is calculated on tests alone. He doesn't tell you when tests are, what is on them or what type of test he will give (multiple choice or extended response). Be ready each class for a test or participation.
Great professor. Really knows what he is talking about and every lecture is interesting. The only grades you have are based off "pop" tests, but he usually hints to when they are going to be. Easy 100 if you just pay attention during the lecture.
The class was interesting, but confusing at times. Your grade is literally based on random pop exams , because there is no homework. It's one of those classes that can be hell for some people, and an easy A for others. He is really cool though
Funny guy and makes class interesting. If you read, go to class and pay attention. There is no reason why you should miss a point. Outside studying is not necessary at all. Practically gives you the exam ahead of time which are pretty easy. However, reluctant to meet with students and rarely responds to email.
Morris knows what he's talking about and spends a good amount of time on each subject so that it is clear. Your grade is based only on the average of any amount of random exams. He's an alright guy, but managed to show up 10 minutes late to nearly every class, including the final exam. He doesn't seem to care about the student's time.
I would recommend taking this class with another professor. Professor Morris gives pop exams and expects you to be prepared for a "Pop exam" every class. Throughout my semester, Morris gave us 5 pop exams. For a business student with other concerns outside of a philosophy class, I found it hard to study for an irrelevant class.
The only thing that counts towards the final grade is the random pop exams he would give. You don't know when they are, what is on them, or what type of exam it will be (multiple choice or essays). He also only gave about ten minutes at the end of class to take the exams. He's funny and knows what he is talking about, but moves at fast pace.
I loved Professor Morris. He was a funny guy and really knew his stuff on the material he taught. He's passionate about the material which made the class more engaging There are pop exams - but if you stay up to date with the lectures and DO THE READINGS they aren't too bad. Show up, pay attention, and ask questions - chances are he has an answer.
At first he comes off a little harsh, but he grows on you. Hes hilarious and a great professor. He really knows what he is talking about. If you read and go to class this class honestly isnt that bad. 5-7 pop quizzes and reading the smallest and cheapest textbook ever. Highly recommend his classes.
Professor Morris is AMAZING!! He is super funny and really knows what he is talking about. It was honestly the one class I really looked forward to every week.
Professor Morris is AMAZING!! He is super funny and really knows what he is talking about. It was honestly the one class I really looked forward to every week. His tests aren't very hard as long as you understand the material. As long as you show up to class and pay attention you should be fine.
Professor Morris is great. He understands the concepts and goes at a pace that he feels the class needs to understand the concepts. As long as you show up and ask questions, this class is an easy A. He's a very engaging lecturer and makes the class atmosphere comfortable for asking questions. He clearly goes over material that will show up on tests
Zany dude and very... informal. Great professor though who should keep you engaged. His class is ethics, which can often discuss heated topics. He is very fair regarding such controversial issues (i.e. open-minded). I would take his class again, even though I feared the pop exams (which he prepares you well for).
Honestly, I'm so grateful I took this class and I would highly recommend not only the course but the professor as well. As long as you do the readings and show up and pay attention, you'll get an A in the course. He seems really intimidating on the first day, especially with the pop-exams, but he grows on you and he makes it interesting.
Morris is the absolute homie, the only professor i've had at Ohio U that actually cares about educating his students thoroughly so they understand the topic. Very open minded and is able to conduct very controversial debates without them going off the rails or becoming stale and stereotypical in arguments. Idk dude, he just kicks butt that's all
Morris rubbed me the wrong way at first. He won't tell you when your exams are, but they are fairly easy as long as you read and pay attention in class. He grew on me and I really like him now. He is pretty intimidating and arrogant. but he is very cool and I would take another class again. Really knows his stuff.
Super laid back professor who keeps the class interesting. He does not tell you directly when an exam will be given, but if you go to class he will give you hints leading up to an exam. Would take again.
Before taking this class I knew about his rate my professor so nothing was unexpected. Every day i sat in class it was like learning a foreign language because you had no idea what he was talking about and it was really hard to understand. There was 5 pop exams, and for the multiple choice he would give the same questions for basically each test
I was intimidated by him at first, but he turned out to be very reasonable. The only grades are pop quizzes so make sure you go to class. I didnt study at all and still got an A because I just went to class and paid attention.
Morris makes concepts easy to understand and goes over ideas as much as he is asked to. Very chill vibes during lectures and they are always interesting. Only graded by a couple of exams, but they are pretty easy as long as you go to class. The only homework is short readings from a book about philosophy which is good for dialogue during class. A++
Great Prof! I was intimidated by him at first but as long as you do what is asked of you, the class isn't bad. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't go you will get no notes and might miss an exam. Cool guy, learned a lot
Morris cares greatly about students and encourages you to think for yourself rather than following others. He is incredibly kind and funny. Do NOT skip class as he has random exams to keep you studying. The exams arent as bad as everyone thinks and theyre quite frequent so that if you do poorly on one the others can make up for it.
Love this class. Lectures are helpful and recorded so you can go back and rewatch. Same due dates each week and only one site used outside of Carmen, but it connects to it. Self-checks can be taken as many times as wanted.
Professor Morris is a great teacher and will do everything he can to help you understand such a difficult subject. DO NOT be afraid to ask questions as he will always try to explain it. You will learn critical thinking that will help you no matter your pursuit, and that makes the information in this class invaluable.
An interesting class, he gave reading/one recorded lecture/one assignment per week, so very easy work, I'd generally only spend 2 or 3 hours on this class per week. No synchonous classes and it can be confusing if you don't really dig into the reading, but if you somewhat like philosophy it's not a bad class.
Morris is more than willing to explain things step by step if you don't get it at first, and is understanding if you need more explanation. This class had a lot of reading, and since it was only a half semester it was pretty difficult. But, it was super interesting: the main skills I took away were counterexamples and analyzing philosophy essays.
Dr. Morris is a dude
Mr. Morris is an extremely passionate and interesting teaching style. in order to succeed in his class you must be flexible and adapt to his rather unique way of teaching. his only grades in his class are pop quizzes, but don't let this scare you because he often gives warnings of when one will be coming up
You have to show up to class every day or you probably will fall behind because nothing is posted on blackboard and he does not respond to emails. It is overall a great class it is just confusing at times.
Easy class if you pay attention
Super engaging personality, for me the reading material was a bit wordy and tough to understand. Attendance isn't technically mandatory but he does randomly give out exams, so skipping is risky. As long as you take the time to understand the readings and ask questions (which he encourages) it's not a very tough class
Make sure you go to class because he has random exams which sounds scary and stressful at first but if you go to class every day, you will be just fine because he hints heavily when there is an exam coming and basically tells you the questions on it, in class. Morris encourages questions, which is great for a philosophy class. Keep up with reading.
The best professor I've had yet. He's a hilarious everyday guy with an outstanding understanding of philosophy and an amazing ability to communicate dense material to anybody who puts in effort.
He is a very funny professor. He gives surprise exams but often hints at when they will be, and they aren't very hard. The only grades in the class are exams so make sure you actually go to class and you will get a good grade. Do the reading outside of class, it helps a lot. He is very laid back and does a good job keeping everyone engaged
The only grades for this class are random pop exams throughout the semester (no hw other than reading). He is a very kind man and wants his students to do well, but his lecture style is rough. There are no slides so it's very hard to keep up with him. The exam questions are always answered in class at some point it's just a lot to remember.
Professor Morris is my favorite professor. He is hilariously unfiltered, and completely undaunted in the face of university response. Be warned- the only grades are 5 or so pop quiz exams. He will give you plenty of potential questions and hints when one is coming, but if you are not prepared or you miss one too many, you will fail.
Jeremy Morris is a dude. The most unfiltered professor you could possibly imagine. I personally loved this class, but you absolutely have to go to do good, he doesn't do a single thing on Blackboard.
The only grades are the "trials" (pop quizzes), which are not very difficult if you know what you're doing. I definitely recommend going to your TA's office hours if you are struggling because Morris is not reachable outside of class. Do the homework and you will be fine.
He is a great professor! I enjoyed his class more than any other philosophy professor I have had now. You HAVE you show up to every class though, he does not use blackboard at all and he also does pop quizzes (but hints at when they will be). If you need a humanities credit or need a good Phil prof he's the best one!
no just no. He doesn't use blackboard or write anything on the board. He has no problem humiliating his students; if you miss one class you will be so far behind. I have seen him turn away students when asking questions after class because he will only answer them in class. He hints when your tests are but you don't know for sure.
Dr. Morris is a great guy. Lots of homework, be ready. You're only graded by "trials," which are like pop tests, but they're not that hard. He answers questions well and encourages students to meet with tutors if they need. One of my favorite classes I've had thus far.
He is a knowledgeable teacher, and understands what he is teaching really well, but if youre someone who gets anxious easily this is NOT the class for you. He popcorn reads/picks on people and embarrasses them easily. POP EXAMS (written)!! and exams are the only grade in the class. Doesn't use blackboard. You cannot skip class or you'll be so lost
He does NOT take into account different learning styles. He tends to target students to humiliate, ones that clearly have anxiety and struggle with being put on the spot. If you struggle with any sort of attention deficit and/ or anxiety DO NOT TAKE THIS. He will target you and it will be significantly harder for you to learn anything from him.
When I think of "college professor" I think Jeremy Morris is the blueprint. I genuinely have never learned more in another class and the way he presents material is brilliant. This class is definitely challenging to specific learning types and styles. However, you can tell that he knows and deeply cares about the content he is teaching.
I put that attendance is not mandatory for this class, but you need to be there. His grades are based solely based on surprise exams throughout the semester. This part was stressful. I would highly recommend this class. Professor Morris makes sure his students are fully learning the material.
Very interesting guy. All grades are surprise exams and never uses Blackboard. Still one of the most enriching classes and the structure truly makes you want to learn.
Dr Morris is a very interesting human. He clearly cares about Symbolic Logic, but he will expect you to care just as much. I had to focus solely on this class, which gave me little time to work on my other classes. I do not suggest taking this unless is is required or you do not have a strenuous course load. Be prepared to be called out in class.
Morris's class is pretty difficult for a 1000 level class. The material is complex, and he gives quizzes at the end of his lectures, called trials. Regardless, Morris is engaging and a teacher who cares about what they teach. He keeps me on my toes and wanting to learn, even with hard material. He is my favorite professor I've had this year.
Professor Morris is such an unfiltered and funny professor. Though the class is hard, if you go to class and pay attention, you'll be fine. You can tell he's very passionate about his work, and the content is difficult. Expect pop quizzes every week, but they aren't too difficult if you pay attention. Great prof, great class! Definitely recommend.
If you dont read ahead of time you will be completely lost. He often says to make friends and get notes from them if you miss class, but if you miss you are also risking missing an exam. He gives pop exams, and calls on you randomly throughout lecture. If you lost your place in the reading he will give an exam to the entire class.
I took my first class with Dr. Morris this year and he's been a phenomenal professor. I thoroughly enjoyed the both the content (which is, granted, not for everyone) and the approach he took to teaching it. He seems to always have fun and is well versed in teaching, and his class was always something I looked forward to throughout my week.
Don't take professor morris if you don't have to. He targets those who are afraid to speak in front of a crowd, often forcing quiet individuals or those who don't come to class to read the text aloud or answer a question they don't know. Doesn't use blackboard, and the grade (PHIL1010) was entirely based on pop exams. Miss class=Confused
Professor Morris grades by only pop-exams. Doesn't use PowerPoints or BlackBoard. Expect to be called upon to read at random times and mandatory attendance. Drops the lowest exam score and the readings are not too extensive. Good luck understanding the content. Notes are critical, but good luck following along with him.
This class was terribly difficult. The only reason I was able to pass with such a high grade was due to my TA. Morris will cold call, and then humiliate you if you are unable to answer his question. This class is doable, but it really depends on your TA and how much time you invest into it. Pop quizzes will be your only grade.
Mr. Morris is a fantastic professor who truly knows how to teach students. Beware that all grades in his class are pop quizzes, but there is an insane amount of extra credit offered. He definitely puts students on the spot and is not afraid to call people out, but I found that to be extremely helpful in actually learning the material. Great person!
Stand up guy
Dreaded this class whenever I had it. My TA was phenomenal, and the material is okay to grasp with the help of the discussion sections, but don't rely on the professor to help very much. He seems like a fun guy, but his teaching style is definitely not for everyone. Only grades are pop quizzes, some extra credit opportunities, but avoid if you can.
I had a 4.0 as a junior before I took Morris' class. His class is graded on the few surprise, pop exams that "he decides to have whenever he wants." He isn't great at using easily understood examples, and instead uses complex examples that an introductory class is not suited to understand. Would NOT recommend taking PHIL 1010 at all if you can.
Professor Morris has a unique teaching style, no tech. You will read the entirety of the textbook. This class is intellectually engaging but overall difficult and every grade is a surprise exam. PLEASE participate and talk. He is very available with his office hours and loves to throw in humor in his discussion whenever he can.
Morris isn't for everybody, but I liked him a lot. The entirety of your grade is "pop exams", but he drops the lowest one and gives a lot of hints about questions and when it will be. They're pretty straightforward questions and repeat a lot, plus he drops the lowest grade. He made the information really interesting and I loved the class.
Do not take this instructor if you value your sanity or academics. Jeremy will purposefully target students who have social anxiety to read to 70+ Students. Would not take this instructor ever again.
He's an interesting fellow. He's not the greatest at teaching. No PowerPoints. No Blackboard.
HIs teaching style is definitely not for everyone very lecture heavy with readings in class and discussion. intense with the pop-up exams which are the only grades in the class. In my time in the class there were only 5 exams including the final. It depends on the person you are whether I would recommend this professor to you. High anxiety def not
His teaching style is very unique. Nothing is online and your grade is depends entirely on exams that could happen at any moment with the lowest grade being dropped. This can be stressful at times. The questions in each exam are always discussed in class. Don't miss class, pay attention, read the material, and you will pass.
Dr. Morris's teaching style is not for everyone. He does not take attendance or use Blackboard, is very lecture-heavy, and gives pop exams, which in addition to a couple of extra credit opportunities, will be your only grades. HOWEVER, he does drop the lowest exam, is forgiving for excused absences, and engaging. Come to class and you'll do great.
Professor Morris is initially intimidating, but I appreciate taking his class. All exams are pop quizzes and require you to be prepared for him to give one at any time. Most of the quizzes are spaced out every 2 to 3 weeks. There are multiple ways that he provides exams. The first exam I had was 3 extended response questions.
As someone with anxiety, the whole setup of this class is horrible. I'm struggling very hard because this is not my learning style. He's very interesting for sure..
awful teacher, random tests, only graded by a few things, learned nothing
Hardest part is figuring out HOW to study this material. Hard class for people with anxiety, but just show up and try your best. Grade solely based on randomized pop quizzes. Just read your book and study and you'll be fine. Can drop one test though. Intimidating prof but he really only has the best intentions. Learned a lot from this class/guy.
This class was very stressful. Your entire grade is based on the average of all your pop quizzes. The material is challenging for some, but for others, it is easy. The most annoying thing I found about this class was the stress of a pop quiz. I would not tell anyone to take this class unless they are very confident in their knowledge of Philosophy.
Yes this professor is difficult but the experience is so rewarding. He does call on you randomly to read but in whole I read only twice. Pop quizzes are the main grade is this class but they are pretty easy if you just come to class and listen. This guy is super funny and really does try to make things interesting. Come to class and you'll be fine.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. There are random exams that make up your grade. He is not available for help outside of class which unusual. He expects you to read in class and all the questions you have about the material are to be asked in class. You cannot check your grade because he does not have a canvas or blackboard.
Nope. There were pop exams, and he graded pretty hard (well his TA did). TA sucked at grading. You are required to go to every class, if he sees many people are missing from class, he will give an exam. The only grades he does are the exams. He uses little to no technology so you have to calculate grades on your own with tests you get back.
You can tell that Prof. Morris genuinely is interested in the concepts she teaches and pushes his students to learn them. YES, all grades are pop-up exams, with the exception of a 50 pt. extra credit assignment. It's pretty easy to figure out when the pop-ups will be though. He doesn't use an LMS either which in my opinion made it more exciting.
Morris' class is lecture-heavy with surprise exams, but engaging if you stay on top of the material. unstuck study was a lifesaver for quick study prep between classes.
Dr. Morris is one of my favorite professors. His class is hard and he does pop exams but if you keep up with the material, it'll be an exciting game for the exams. He's very passionate about the content he teaches. He gives Dad vibes with all his Dad jokes, 10/10 would recommend. This is coming from someone horrible at philosophy.
He seems like a very nice person (arguable), but he was a terrible professor, even showing our grades on the screen. His whole class is all on paper, and grades need to be calculated yourself, and those only consist of his 100 pt/3 question pop quiz "trials" he gives. He is a very fast-paced teacher as well, do not take if you do not like math.
Dr. Morris is definitely not for everybody but if you're into Logic/Philosophy, you should be alright. The class structure is unique (entire grade is pop quizzes/trials). Would recommend taking the 1200 class before getting into 3200. Good guy with good humor; if you keep up with every thing, you will have a good time.
The material itself isn't hard but he is a horrible professor unless you can handle self-teaching. He won't tell you what to do until you ask questions, often leaving out key points of the material. He is very insistent that attendance is key. He's also insistent on keeping everything offline, there's not even a canvas class. Would not recommend.
Very split on this guy. On one hand he can be fun and caring and obviously cares about what hes teaching, but on the other he is unclear on grading, has a lot of homework that feels redundent, gets off track and is unorganized and DOSENT SHOW GRADES UNTIL THE END. I wouldve bumped him up if we couldve seen our grades before but its hard to gauge.
This was my second time having Morris, but he is not for everyone. He does not have canvas and isn't online, there are pop up exams, if you attend and do the readings you will pass. He is BEYOND helpful, you can truly tell he loves his job. The best professor i've had and think he is one of the top ones at this uni. I suggest taking his classes.
Gives homework after every class but if you pay attention, it's not difficult.
The only teacher I tell people to avoid at Ohio University. I genuinely avoid classes by him at all costs.
Do not ever take a class with him
This man thinks he is so far above all of his students and loves to abuse his power by making his students lives harder. The first day he said he'd randomly call on people and if you looked nervous he would be more likely to call on you. He speaks inappropriately in class such as using phallic terms in his examples. Only grades are pop quizzes AVOID
Prof Morris is definitely not for everyone, but I love him. Class is required because he cold calls for reading, but going is worth it. His lectures are always interesting and funny. He does not tell you when exams will be; they are all pop, but he makes sure we are well prepared. Professor Morris genuinely cares about his students' success.
Professor Morris is an incredibly passionate professor, but he is not for everyone. Technology is not permitted in the classroom, and everything that you do will be on paper. He is one of the few professors that I feel I have actually learned something from. Attendance is mandatory, and if you listen, and do the work, you'll pass.
Professor Morris is extremely passionate about what he teaches, but is definitely not for everyone. There is no canvas for the class and you don't know your final grade until the very end of the class. His tests are random, but he always drops hints about when the test will be. Overall if you pay attention you'll do fine. I highly reccomend.
Professor Morris is very old-fashioned. He does not use technology, and the only grades that go into the gradebook are your exam grades. He does not say when they will be posted. He is hard to follow, and his teaching is not effective at all. You also do not find out your final grade until the last day of class. I do not reccomend
Genuinely one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He gives you the outline of the class on day 1. Coming to class every single day 1000% helps with doing well in the class. Kept all of my exams and just studied them up til the final. He says pop quizzes will be the exams, but he will always give hints when exams will happen.
This professor was terrible. the way he explained topics made zero sense, he never tells you when exams are going to be, and he doesn't use or allow technology in the class. this class was my 13th reason
I personally liked Morris' teaching. He doesn't use any technology, but it was nice and got me prepared for a regular workload (and made me pay attention more). The way he explains concepts and topics helped me understand philosophy. And he's pretty funny, would take again!
