was a new professor, not exactly the most interesting but very concise. Exams were fairly easy as long as you did the reading, but a lot of writing to do in 50 mins
easy class, gives good handouts, never read the book and got an A,
No Comments
Sometimes boring, sometimes interesting. My #1 complaint is that he gives out reading quizzes that are worth 20% of your grade. It makes me feel like I'm in middle school.
He is the best, and I mean the best poli sci teach you will ever have. It was such a privilege to be in his class because he engaged the students and made them want to learn.
he was my prof for a foreign policy class at harvard before coming to uconn. great professor and great methods of teaching.
great professor. interesting, intelligent and engaged the class in his lectures. he makes you really want to learn. one of the best professors at uconn. take a class with him!
This man made me love political science, and caused me to go into the field. He will be the best professor you'll ever have!!
very good speaker
He's a good speaker, easy to follow, and made me love polysci
awesome teacher, def take this class with him if you can, really knows what he is talking about
Hes the best professor I ever had. Just attend lecture and hope for a helpful TA.
Awesome professor, do the reading and you'll be fine. He makes the topic very interesting. The only complaint I had was the tests were a little too long for the time alloted, but they weren't impossible. He's very helpful both inside and outside the classroom, and good with career advice.
Best teacher I've ever had. Great public speaker as well as intelligent. Makes you want to learn. Tests aren't too bad if you're up to date on notes and readings. Take his class!
Prof. Pressman is definitely the best political science professor I have ever had, and possibly the best class I have taken so far at Uconn. Go to class because he draws from his lectures for the test, but also because he is a great public speaker. Highly Recomended
Big Jer is the man.
He's a good professor - very knowledgeable and fairly interesting. His expertise happens to be my main area of interest, so I'm a little biased. But still, he was a good professor and easy to understand.
One of the best professors I have ever had. His level of knowledge is incredible--bordering on inspirational
Awesome professor. Highly enthusiastic and really knows his stuff. Even if you're not into polisci stuff, you'll probably still enjoy this class.
Pressman was. Great professor. The subject was super interesting and he really doesnt bore you. It helps to participate and make the class more dynamical. also there is a good amount of reading . Overall a great class!!
Pressman is very knowledgeable about international politics and makes it interesting for everyone else. You won't want to skip lecture. No textbook but a lot of online readings. Two exams and a short paper. Would definitely recommend.
I took a grad course with him as a sophomore, so definitely look at other reviews. He is nice, the class was great and incredibly interesting. He loves the subject and is invested in student learning. He's there for you if you participate and show your own interest. You need to know the subject to get an A, but BA range is common for most students
I came into this class not very interested in the subject but now my mind is completely changed. Pressman is incredibly smart-his level of knowledge is borderline inspirational. Currently trying to get into one of his classes for next semester. Amazing. Would recommend. Dont have to buy a book!
Pressman is a great guy and you can tell he knows what he is talking about. Some of the material is interesting, but some of it is really tough to get through. There is a lot of reading for this class, and you have to go to lecture to get the notes. He doesn't usually post them and when he does they're selective. Great lecturer, and very smart.
Prof. Pressman isn't the absolute best, but he's smart and nice. Slides aren't always there & getting notes can be tough, but it's a good class. I participated a lot in discussion; got on my TA's good side and an A. But, discussion's not super-useful and there aren't many grade-saving chances. Overall, a good class, but you will need to work hard.
International politics class is focused mainly on the Syrian civil war and the Middle East. There is no textbook for this class, but get ready to read lots of online articles in order to understand the material. Class is mainly lecture, but Jeremy is a great teacher and kind. Exams are fair as long as you read
Professor Pressman is a fantastic lecturer and has been a gift to the Poli Sci Dept. He is very knowledgable and does not portray a biased side on this very touchy matter. There is of course a long paper due at the end of the semester, but be ready to read a hefty about before class. He keeps his lectures interesting and engaging.
I took an intersession class that lasted about three weeks long, however, Professor Pressman may be my favorite professor so far in my college career. He has a way of witholding bias on delicate issues while showing a passion for the subject at hand unmatched by any other teacher I have ever had. I am still interested in the topics we covered.
Pressman is pretty articulate on those IR-related topics and he does have a good sense of humor (at least from I've seen). Lectures are the most important part of the course as he doesn't use slides at all and you need to take good notes on what he says. They are not just "lecturing" because he likes to interact with students. Two exams, two papers
Pressman knows his stuff. I heard going into this class he was extremely knowledgeable on political science, but that might have been an understatement - there were some lectures where I swear he didn't look at the Powerpoint once. I'm a polisci major and I still learned a ton. If you're looking for a cool intro class, don't miss Pressman.
Professor Pressman is not only the best professor I had at UConn, he is the best teacher I've had in my whole life. Straightforward, smart, caring and brilliant. TAKE HIS CLASSES. He's not an easy A, but if you're looking for a fantastic professor who will teach you more than the rest of your UConn classes combined, don't miss Pressman!
He gives really good lectures and keeps you pretty engaged the whole time. It is a basic intro class with two exams and two short papers. The TAs grade everything in the discussion section so that has a lot of influence in your grade. He answered questions really well. I recommend this class.
This is a good elective fill out two requirements so definitely take it and take it with Pressman. His lectures are good and really, if u come to class and pay attention, there's no way ul get it wrong. 3 paper assignments, 1 midterm, one non-cumulative final and that's it. Strongly recommend.
If you do the readings or go to the lectures, you'll be fine. He puts his slides online which is nice. The class is weighted on two papers which are graded easily, and two exams. Overall, this class has boring theories but when you talk about real world application it becomes more enjoyable. Pressman personally can be a tad awkward but passionate.
He is very intelligent and passionate about political science; he can speak without looking at any slides and knows what he's talking about. The only thing I didn't like about the class was that there are tons of readings and many questions on exams are based off these readings.
Prof. Pressman is fantastic! Very passionate about the content material and incredibly knowledgeable about Middle Eastern conflict. Great, engaging lectures that fly by (make sure you attend lecture; exam content is straight from the slides, not the readings, though he posts lectures online). Very fair grading (by the TAs).
Pressman is a cool guy and I dont have many complaints. Just do the work and youll be good. The lectures can get kinda boring and so can the readings. 2 writing assignments and 2 exams. Go ahead and take the class, Id say its worth it.
He is a good professor, and very open to questions. The class (1402), is largely theoretical sosome students might struggle with that portion but the TAs and Pressman were accessible. Class itself is really easy. Lectures are fun, its worth showing up. Note taking is essential, the readings for the course arent, a skim might suffice.
Prof Pressman is a well respected and great professor. He really goes in depth in lecture and is open to any questions. Lecture can get boring at times, make sure to copy notes, lecture is somewhat mandatory, go with knowledge of the reading(light skim through), 2 easy papers to write, discussion is pretty much mandatory as there are easy quizzes.
I loved this class. It's extremely interesting, but also an easy A as long as you put in a little effort. You don't need to go to lectures, but it's pretty helpful. His lectures are slideshows Sith minimal information, so you need to be there to hear the info verbally. Or.... find a friend. (Watch out for the TAs, they ruin things)
Great lecturer, the class consisted of 2 exams and a participation-like grade (also 1 optional paper). He assigns a lot of reading that most times he goes over in class but not every time so it's best to do the readings (they also show up on exam questions). Overall really great and interesting course!!
Pressman is a really nice guy, however, if you have absolutely no background in polysci this might not be the class for you. Everyone seemed to already have huge background knowledge on IR and obscure historical events that happened in the past and I didn't, leaving me feeling embarrassed when we would have to share our answers out loud.
I love the professor very interesting guy, but you really got to study for exams to get a decent grade.
PoliSci is not my thing but as a gen-ed, he made class very fun. Defiantly would recommend going to lecture, there's no book, but he keeps it interesting. Two exams & a paper, nothing you shouldn't be prepared for. Love Pressman!
Professor Pressman is a really nice guy, but I didn't enjoy his class at all. It was a topic I wasn't interested in at all, but he didn't really change that with his lecturing and topics. Overall, if your looking for a CA 2 class and you don't enjoy POLS, don't pick this class.
Pressman is probably one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only is he clearly very smart and knowledgeable, but he managed to make a 240 person lecture interactive through journal entries, various in-class exercises, and leading a lot of interesting discussion in lecture. Even during corona he adapted well with his online presentations.
His lectures are very boring, but he does care strongly about this course and you can really feel his passion. For a non poli sci student, this can be challenging to follow but he offers extra credit and also a cheat sheet for exams. These are the only grades though so you need to do well. email him with questions, he responds quickly and is kind.
I love Professor Pressman! Very respectful and intelligent. Always answers questions well. Lectures are extremely helpful, but attendance wasn't taken. We had an occasional in class assignment though. A little prior polisci knowledge is helpful always, but you don't need it by any means. If you care, and form opinions, it's a breeze.
It's mainly just lectures and exams. There is no textbook, but he does provide some 15-30 page readings. Get ready to have most of your communication be through the TAs
Really great professor. I felt like I learned so much in this class, beyond preparing for a test. He's a really smart guy with a lot of knowledge on the topics he lectured on. Definitely take a class with him some point in your academic career!
Professor Pressman is an excellent professor who sought to make the material interesting. If you go to class and do the readings, you will be fine. He even offered an extra credit opportunity that was quite simple and yet very helpful to your grade. He is kind and respectful to his students and genuinely wants to hear their opinions!
Context: this class is completely online. Teacher wise, Pressman is awesome. He's extremely knowledgeable and passionate. Also, he gives good instructions and is understanding. Course wise, there's a lot of group projects, so be warned. Modules also have long readings (20 pages for one source) and you use them to do short quizzes (6 questions).
Definitely take any class you can with him. 2998 is all online with some optional video sessions but it's really nice to get to interact with him. Very understanding, readings are long but interesting, no textbook which was nice. I have nothing bad to say about Professor Pressman. He's awesome.
I adore Prof Pressman. He makes sure to respect his students on a personal level, will email you back almost instantly, and creates his class in an interesting and easy to navigate manner. Probably the one of the best professors at Uconn, hands down. There is a LOT of reading, but it is totally worth it
professor pressman is a very interesting lecturer and is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the course material. he is very helpful outside of class if you have questions. The course work is not difficult and he makes the assignments very reasonable.
Professor Pressman is very considerate for his students and is very accessible. The lectures were pretty entertaining for being all on collaborate and you can tell he's passionate about his class.
Maybe I had a different experience with Professor Pressman because the course was online, but the format he presented POLS1402 in was just terrible. The only deliverables were a test every month and a half. His recorded lectures are him talking to the camera w/o slides for an hour. No incentive to actually do the readings.
Online, we have been reading one lecture (just the Prof. notes about the topic basically) and a few short extra readings and videos, about 4 or less usually but I know most people dont need those. Only have had 2 exams, no tests or quizzes. Exams are simple because questions are directly relevant to what was learned in the lecture. TA is great
I had a much different experience with Prof Pressman than most people here. Although my class was asynchronous, the course format was just terrible. 45 minutes of speech lectures to a camera every week without slides, so much reading without any incentive to do any of it, and graded by very few things, somewhat unfairly. My TA was the saving grace.
Professor Pressman seems super nice and knowledgeable about the subject. It is definitely hard to grasp that through the online class though. He does care about students, since all tests were open notes and there weren't too many readings/ videos per week. Overall good professor, just which it wasn't online.
Because this was a lecture hall class I really only spoke with the professor directly like twice. Your grade is largely dependent on your TA. My TA was very nice with her grading so that was good, but it's not like the class was difficult otherwise. Since every test is open book and you can use Google it's difficult not to give the correct answer.
He is a good professor. It is beneficial to go to lectures. If you do the readings and study the material, it should be easy to get a good grade. Exams are multiple-choice and short answer, they are open note and can be taken outside of the classroom.
Overall good professor! He's super passionate about the topic and wants you to be engaged too. Due to covid he provided an online option for the class while also holding in person lecture. The tests are worth a lot, but not too hard if you do the work and study a bit. Tests are also open book.
Professor Pressman is among the best professors at UConn, especially on the non-stem side. He is willing to explain anything and everything to you and really wants you to succeed. His lecture outlines are concise and more than enough to do well on the open note exams. Be cognizant that there are only about 4-5 grades in the whole course.
Class is based on a term paper you work on during the course and exercises that happen in some classes (just a completion grade) & an exam. A lot of reading, but you don't have to do everything just talk every once a while. He's very knowledgeable and gives interesting lectures. Also has cool stories about when he lived over in Israel/Palestine.
Great professor, excellent and funny lectures that show his passion towards the subject of international relations. Tests are open notes.
Prof Pressman's class was very interesting. Lots of reading but you don't have to do all of it, just pay attention in lecture if you still want to learn. Only graded on a few assignments: one big paper and a simulation + a little bit of class journals. He grades pretty easy if you follow the guidelines and put in a little effort. Very understanding
Pressman is a really great teacher. This class involves a fun simulation where students can play the role of diplomats in the Arab-Israeli conflict and it makes going to class very worth it. He is very understanding with late work, but sometimes may grade a little tough.
Prof Pressman is very nice but i found the lectures incredibly boring and hard to sit through. The class is grades majority by 2 midterms and a final making up 80% of your grade, incredibly hard to pass if you mess one up. Go to the lectures and take good notes and you will be fine.
Super easy class, and Pressman is super sweet. His lectures can be a little boring but he is clearly very interested in what he's talking about which makes up for the content. He assigns no homework and the exams are open note. There was one short paper (it was only 300 words) and that was it for the class. Super easy A in my opinion.
Professor Pressman has to be the most thoughtful and kind professor at UConn. His lectures are great and you can tell he truly loves his students. During mental health/anti suicide week he asked us to post papers with quotes on them around campus and he began to cry. He really does care and I couldn't help but want to hug him. Seriously THE best!
I love Professor Pressman! He is so sweet and he tries his best to make the lectures interesting. The grade is made up of three exams, participation in the discussion section, and one super short paper. You have weekly readings which are usually just short articles to discuss. It was an easy intro for political science, I definitely recommend him!
Mr. Pressman is overall a pretty solid teacher. The class is very easy especially if you always show up and do the readings. The exams are online and open book, and he also provided some extra credit, in total about 2 points. My only complaints would be that there were unclear instructions at times and that the lecture slides were pretty sloppy.
This is my second class with Prof Pressman, he is very kind and considerate of students. He answers emails quickly, grades fairly, and teaches valuable lessons. I highly recommend.
Dr. Pressman's class was very easy. Homework was just reading and exams were based off of the lectures. There are not many grades, so you have to do well on the exams in order to do well in the class. He also gives multiple extra credit opportunities. Overall, easy course and interesting material.
Professor Pressman was boring at times, but clearly defines concepts. Few readings, but make sure to understand them fully, and the perspectives of the authors. Professor Pressman is a very caring man.
Pressman is one of the most caring professors out there, & he breaks the W material in half to make it easier. The material is very interesting, but this is compounded by how much Pressman cares about the course. He invites guest lectures, shows videos, and makes you partake in a simulation. It's as close to a perfect class as one can make. Take it
Easy workload and concepts, but his teaching style is boring. His lectures aren't information dense, but he barely uses slides/videos so its purely auditory. Highly recommend taking notes in his class, there's no slides to go back and reference. Don't take at 8am, I slept in the lectures. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Professor Pressman is one of the kindest professors and it's clear that he cares a lot about both the course materials and his students. His slides and lectures can be a bit boring at times but his passion is always there and he genuinely cares about his students' opinions. He gives a few group assignments and extra credit opportunities.
Pressman is one of the kindest professors I have ever had. You can tell he genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his students and about the material he is teaching. There is a lot of reading but just get ChatGPT to summarize the articles for you and it is no problem. All tests are open note and pretty simple.
Took his US, Palestine/Israel course this semester and has to be one of my favorite courses I've taken here. Extremely interesting and taught with no bias at all, just looking at the history and diplomacy. Decent amount of reading, participation, and 2 essays. Nothing but praise for Prof. Pressman and this course.
Took this class as a first-semester poli sci major. Got a 94 even though I really only went to a handful of lectures. All exams are online and open-note, and there are only a couple of other assignments (all of which are listed in the syllabus). You'll do fine as long as you have a friend that attends lectures.
Pressman was a decent professor. His lectures were a bit boring, sometimes he lectured about a trip he had taken that was only tangentially related to IR. Exams were straightforward: based on the lecture notes, slides, and readings. Be sure to know readings well before exams. Some assignments must be done in class so check syllabus before skipping.
Pressman is a passionate and knowledgeable, he brings enthusiasm to lectures. Classes are lecture-heavy. Tests are demanding, requiring thorough understanding, while lengthy readings add to the workload. Offers a bit of extra credit. No textbook needed though!
I loved taking this class with professor Pressman. It was so informative and even though the lectures were boring on occasion, I enjoyed it so much. It was the perfect difficulty. the readings are long, but skimming works for most of the time. I would also make sure to have them open in class and read as he talks about them.
Professor Pressman is a class act and a brilliant educator. His class is precise, thought-provoking, and contains a variety of graded material that all challenge you in different ways. He displays a wealth of knowledge on the Israel-Palestinian conflict and confronts its contemporary manifestations as well as its history with poise.
Prof. Pressman is easily one of the best poli sci professors at UConn. Great lectures, international relations simulation was incredible, and the exams are straightforward (paying attention during lectures is your best study tool). He is genuine and passionate. Highly recommend taking a course with him.
Professor Pressman seems like a genuinely kind-hearted person, even though I never personally spoke to him. His class is definitely reading-heavy, but that's expected with political science. At times, his lectures can be pretty boring. The grading is handled by the TAs, which isn't really an issue for me, just something to be aware of.
Prof. Pressman is a nice guy and has given some good lectures at times. But I cannot deny that the grading and reading can be harsh at times. If this is your first major-centered course, be prepared to read a ton, because about 60% of the exams involve extracting information directly from each one, which gets really difficult at times.
Jeremy cares a lot about his course and he teaches it well. The slides are posted, but it's better to go to class because he doesn't read off slides. Pressman also remembers names and he will remember you when you participate. The sections with the TA's are okay, but apart from that it's a really good course.
Not bad but not amazing. Has you read roughly 2 papers in preparation for each class but rarely mentions them in lecture. Only really brings them up on the midterm and final. Also doesn't take attendance but randomly does to see who's here. If you need this for an intro political science credit then it's a decent option.
The best professor I've had so far. His lectures and readings are structured in a way where he sets you up for success for exams. Exams are online and not too hard. Would definitely take another class of his. He's also really caring and wants the best for students.
very great professor
