Take his class!!! Dr. Rowan is very clear in his teaching. He is playful and makes the subject more interesting than it already is. He uses class time wisely , so if you are planning to live class early don't think about it. He gives quizes for every single chapter, reading them is a good idea. He knows the content very well and enjoys teaching it.
Pretty interesting teacher. Really good looking. Humorous for the most part. Two exams- multiple choice with two essays, two papers-five pages each, and a quiz for every chapter! You need to read the chapter to pass the quizzes! He makes it easy! I recommend him.
Professor Rowan is awesome. He's really clear and enthusiastic when lecturing and he goes by the syllabus. He gives quizzes for every chapter which are kind of easy, but you must read to pass them. You also have to read two novels and write 4-5 pages on each which is not bad at all! I totally recommed him and I'll give him a hot tamale!
First of, yes he is goodlooking and he has a cute accent. Apart from that you can really tell he likes the subject and that he knows it well. We had to do a lot of reading, but you can maybe get away with not reading. We had 2 papers; one was on a novel (3-4 pages) and the other was on globalism (4-6 pgs.) I enjoyed the class, I say take him.
Great professor, extremely smart. He definitely knows what he's talking about, and is very passionate about European History and his students. Plus, he's very good looking, and has a British accent! Definitely a great professor, would recommend him and his class to anyone! Go Dr. Rowan!!
Cool teacher, explains very well and thorough. There is A LOT of reading.. I mean A LOT!! All test/quizzes are multiple choice. I recommend him but get ready to read a hell load.
he realllly knows what he's talking about. There is a lot of reading but if you pace yourself it's not bad at all. Expects a lot of class partcipation. Quizzes are pretty hard (Online outlines help TONS!) I loved this class. GREAT teacher!!...p.s. don't take this class if you're REALLY lazy!
he's a great teacher. he knows what he's talking about, has a clear passion for Europena history, and takes an interest in his students. there is alot of reading, and there are two essays. if you attend class, take good notes, and read the assigned material, you'll be fine. The class isn't boring at all, and he's really cute (: take him!
A lot of reading, but they're easy reads. Assignments can be pretty complex but he is a fair grader. Participation is 25% of your grade, so it's a great grade boost all you have to do is participate. He's super helpful, very knowledgeable, overall wonderful professor ! :)
HE IS AWESOMEEEEEE AND SO CUTE... i got in love with him, he made history interesting and fun .. he is the best the only problem is that the class is divided and the TA are not as good as him. Austin is really bad.... if you keep with him and he graded your work you are going to learn a lot.. rowan rocks i love him
Smart professor and he's super young. He's very clear with his lectures and he's pretty chill. You could speak to him without feeling intimidated. Not a difficult class because he tells you were to find the information for tests.
He is tall, and very hot. His class is challenging, but he is very helpful and a fair grader. I would definitely recommend him plus he is good looking, so take him!
** HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION ** Rowan is solid all-around. Learned, enthusiastic, helpful, and mentoring. Knows what he is teaching and how to teach it. Book list is diverse, appropriate, and really interesting. Uses multiple forms of media from lecture to power point. Very approachable and will guide you through writing assignments if you need help.
Okay history is not my thing, but he makes it relatively interesting. Have to study a little, but class was a breeze. Yes he is really cute, especially with glasses!!
excellent teacher, funny, and a really nice guy. The books are pretty interesting , there is a 10 page paper
Professor Rowan is awesome! He is clear and knowledgeable and also puts a bit of humor in learning history. He is always willing to help you with anything. Don't let the witty sarcasm get to you. It's just his way of making people laugh. I definitely recommend him.
I am not the next Mark Twain. However, I have not received anything less than an A in a writing related class in more than 10 years. I have no idea how his grading scale works. Part of the class was a comment board in which I wrote 1000 words more than were necessary. If I got a C then everyone else must have failed.
He's a super cool guy. The material is okay. All tests are written, no multiple choice, which makes this class harder than it should be; but then again, it is Gordon Rule. He focused on some small details and battles in the Final.
Prof. Rowan is a good lecturer, you don't have to go to class but be prepared to study the tests which are written. The tests are kind of up in the air and you don't know what to study but i did pretty good in them, the TA's didn't grade that hard so I would say on overall easy humanities to take.
I wasn't too happy with this class, but it wasn't so bad. The professor is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which is good. However, he did not used powerpoints. He had an outline on the projector and talked about the topic during most of the class. This doesn't work very well with me. Tests were written answers. There are 2 papers.
This was a very easy class and I highly recommend it to ANYONE. There were only two papers and two exams, I did not study for the first and passed with an A and for the second I studied the day before and received a perfect score. He is an excellent instructor and the papers are not hard just use the book and you?ll be fine. Oh and whatever he emph
asizes on is going to be on the test, so if he repeats it, make a note of it :) AWESOME CLASS!! And ? umm ? he is very easy on the eyes if you know what I mean ;).
Doctor Rowan is really smart and really good looking. His lectures are really great because you actually learn and the textbook helps with what he talks about. One of the best professors I've ever had, definitely take his class.
Good professor, teaches well, classes aren't boring. Only problem is he has a fake British accent. It's so easy to notice and it is quite funny. I ve caught him say the same words in different accents, so this guy has to be a faker. He says first and then says Fuuuuuuurrrrst.
This guy is very good at what he does....he has a slight accent(English)which is not bad or hard to understand. In fact it probably makes you wanna listen more, however the subject is dense an the class is boring. Two test, two essay's...much easier than other professor teaching the same subject.
This is the best history I've ever taken ... and to top it off, aside from his intellectual knowledge this teacher is smoking HOT!! British boys are now my thing ... thank u Rowan. Love!
Took this class online and it's not difficult. Just have to keep up with the reading and only 3 papers to write. First about five pages, second about 6, and last one 2-4.
Great Prof! lectures can be a bit boring if you are not interested in the subject. 2 tests and 2 papers. TAs are pretty easy graders. If you dont come to class make sure you read. Lectures are off book. And yes its true he is cute:)
Online class, not hard. 75% of your grade is 3 essays, and 25% is the discussion forums. If you read all the novels, you will have no problem writing the essays. If you don't read them you will have trouble writing the last essay; it is a complex topic that cannot be answered without reading all the novels assigned.
Professor Rowan is a very funny and makes learning history fun and interesting. Usually i find lectures boring, but with professor Rowan, he kept me awake with the way he teaches. I learned a lot! There are 2 essays and 2 tests. The essays are super easy and like i said, his class is super interesting. Take him! You wont regret it!!
Makes history interesting. 2 papers, TA's grade them. Midterm and final are not mult. choice. 5 short essays and one long one. Sounds scary but its all straight from his lectures. it is actually better. got an A without KILLING myself, did work for it tho. try a little, and you'll def. pass.
Awesome teacher! He really makes the class interesting and encourages participation. If you read the assigned books(4) and go to class you will do fine. Really cool guy and is available to help students outside of class. 2 tests, a midterm and a final and they were essays based on the readings and class lectures. 1 research paper.
He is very smart and knows his material. I learned a lot in his class and he is soooooo hot and tall so it was not hard paying attention.
He's a great professor! Knows his stuff and is interesting. No textbook for this class only lectures and outside readings for which there are discussion sessions. Midterm and Final (not cumulative)
WOW! Knows his stuff and knows how to relay that on his students. He actually cares about whether you learn or not but realize that he is a college professor. You need to read but it isn't anything that you can't manage. Study off notes for tests and listen to the stories he tells. Also EXTREMELY good looking. Definitely taking him again!
Professor Rowan is very knowledgeable about the material and his lectures are dynamic. I took this class in the summer so it was very fast paced, he has 4 TAs that go through the discussion sessions with you and give you advice on your papers. you need to reed the material before class and pay attention in the lectures to do good on the tests (2).
He isn't a really tough professor. Your grade is more dependent on your study skills and your assigned T.A. The Woman is a hard grader. The other two guys are much better. You need to have good writing skills for a good grade.
He is sooo hot, and really nice and approachable. He is a good professor, and helps you understand the material. I recommend his class it's very interesting. Oh and did I mention he is HOT! :)
Dr Rowan is super nice, very smart and knows the subject extremely well. His class is interesting and dynamic. I love the way he teaches, so I definitely recommend the class. Also, he is super cute which doesn't hurt at all and his accent is adorable
Great mix of good teaching, sarcasm and hotness. Loved his classes.
Proffesor Rowan is the best!!!
Cool guy I totally recommend him.
It all really depends on the TA you get. He doesn't grade anything. Basically it was 2 essays and 2 exams. Simple stuff nothing too hard. If you put some effort, you can get at least a B.
Awesome professor! He's very helpful and really knows his material. 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 paper with some book discussions throughout the semester. Fair grader and also very good looking!
Great professor. Class is very interesting. As good a professor as you will see in fiu. He doesn't grade the papers but you should do fine if you go to class or read the book. Also go to the TA sections.
Love his class! and him! he is so sexy! makes you want to go to class even if it is only to see him lol. He is also a very good professor, clear , concise and will tell you what you have to know for the exam. also make sure you attend the TA lectures, they do help!
I love this professor...He's an excellent teacher, very clear and focused. He is very approachable and will help you with your essays. I actually learned A LOT in his class!! I would definitively recommend him , especially if you actually want to learn about Europe.
Rowan is alright. Basically, his TAs grade you but based on his rubric(s). There are two papers and two finals. Grading towards the end is a bit unfair in my opinion but oh well. The younger TA seems more difficult than the older one. Don't be deceived.
This guys KNOWS HIS STUFF. He's very knowledgeable. He tries to make class fun - he cracks jokes occassionally. He doesn't really grade anything - just his TA's. Overall, cool class! I'm glad I took this...
I took this class online and it wasn't too bad, there is a lot of reading and a lot of writing, but it is a gordon rule class so of course there will be a lot of that. He has amazing writing skills and he has notes for each book you read on line, just keep up with class, analyze the work the best you can and you should get an A
This was a really easy class if you just go and take notes and read the documents.
Great Teacher. He really knows history well and is good at teaching it. The class is pretty easy. Just read the required reading, write two papers and attend classes for lectures and discussion. Test are not that hard either. Overall, I would recommend him.
Prof Rowan is very clear and most importantly, knows what he's talking about. Grades are based on 2 essays, discussion session one day a week with a TA (for Spring/Fall, Summer terms have discussion sessions everyday), and two exams. And he's not bad on the eyes either <3
good professor
I didn't enjoy this class because I have no interest in History BUT I will say that Rowan is a good professor, he explains everything extremely well and he explains his assignments thoroughly. I recommend.
Cool Professor. His English is understandable and the Females really seem to like him. But I think Rowan seriously needs to change that blue shirt and get a red one already.
Rowan appears to be nice, but when you talk to him personally, he is very rude and treats people like they're worthless. He thinks the British are better than everybody else. His lectures are boring and he constantly gets off topic with his jokes. Oh and by the way, this guy SERIOUSLY needs to change that blue shirt which he wears everyday.
2 lecture class, 1 discussion class a week. The presentation is given by Rowan but all of the grading is done by your TA. I don't even know how the guy looks. Luckily my TA was nice and lenient so overall wasn't bad. A laptop is helpful for this course.
Great Professor! Super approachable and nice. He knows the subject matter and explains everything well and in detail. Midterm, final, term paper. As long as you're not an idiot you should do fine. As for the blue shirt comments, stop HATING guys. Oh and the guy who said he was rude, he's in my class, HUGE retard couldn't manage basic assignments.
Rowan is arguably the best lecturer in the history department. Very approachable if you ever need his help with something, and his exams aren't too difficult, just lengthy. Just get a head start on the term paper, show up, take notes and you'll do fine. I'm hardly a genius at English history, but Rowan never made me feel stupid. Funny guy, too!
Prof. Rowan was possibly the best professor I've had. He makes history super simple & clear. He lectures on everything you need to know, & though attendance isn't mandatory, I would strongly recommend it for the notes & lecture. There are 2 tests & 2 papers, and his TA's grade everything. Not the nicest graders, but I definitely recommend him!
One of the best professors I've ever had. He is very helpful and approachable. For the person that said Dr. Rowan treats people like they are worthless: he never treated me that way, have considered the idea that perhaps the problem is you? And yes, he is hot, but that does not have any effect on his performance as a professor.
I took him because of comments on this site and was very disappointed. Couldn't understand his accent, monotone lectures directly from PP, unapproachable, horrible TAs, ridiculous readings (300 page book in 4 days), doesn't show any interest in the subject. I had to drop it. Don't recommend it for AMH.
Good teacher, good lectures, but you can only Ace this class if you're an avid reader and have a knack for history. Otherwise you'd end up getting a B average.
He is a great professor! He knows what he is talking about and his TA's are extremely helpful. You write 2 papers and they're pretty simple. Plus he has a british accent, which is pretty attractive.
Good class to take for a humanities requirement. 2 papers, a midterm, and a final. Also a discussion session which is 20% of your grade so just participate. Pay attention and study and you'll be fine. Sucking up to your TA doesn't hurt either.
Dr. Rowan is a great lecturer. He does not grade the papers or exams in this course, the TAs do so the grade is up to them. However, he is very thorough and his exams, while not cake, are not terribly difficult (short and long answer). Plus he's hot and if you have to take a humanities with writing, why not make it pleasurable with some eye candy?
Jokes aside as to how incredibly good looking and gracious to the eye Dr. Rowan is; he's actually an amazing lecturer--crystal clear, incredibly knowledgeable about the subject, and is always willing to help. He's pretty much the epitome of excellence :).
He is a crystal clear lecturer;the best history lecturer I have had in my academic years. You will learn quite a lot if you like history.I recommend to attend his lectures and rather than trying to take notes,to listen to him. You have to study for his exams to get a good grade. class grade consisted of 2 exams,2 essays+fridays discussion
Loved him as a teacher he is funny and such a clear lecturer. I did not like the way in which his class was structured, I know its not up to him, but I don't like to have class with 300+ people, or the fact that you only interact with the TA, besides that the online friday sessions were cool, the essays are easy, but they grade them harshly
He is a great history teacher and orator. He has a nice sense of humor and relates events to today's reality. TAs are realy important for your success in this class, if possible take Adam Silvia, he is amazing!! Tests seem crazy at the beginning but yes you do have time to answer the 5 ID's and the essay for the midterm and 2 essays for the final.
The professor was great! BUT, the TA that I got was horrible! He refused to listen and reason with you. Not only that but you don't know what he is looking for
Dr. Rowan is the type of professor that makes the student interested in a history major when you only wanted to take their class to knock out a requirement. Crystal clear lectures, always available for the student, and all around brilliant! More than enough time was given for the midterm, by the way -.-.
It was an okay class but be warned the amount of reading is ridiculous. There is a weekly discussion on Fridays so you HAVE to read. Class consists of two essays, two tests and the discussions. Attendance is not mandatory.
Professor Rowan really cares for his students and he generally tries to make the class fun but be warned that there is a lot of readings and participation in the discussion board is required, it was alot even for an online class. He's very quick to answer emails and the course is actually really interesting!
I am still in this class but I HAD to comment on it. As an online class it is not easy, his lectures are Wikipedia links!!! WIKIPEDIA LINKS! I am not doing bad but it is hard to keep up without more substantial lectures. You have to discuss at least twice a week about the topic but he gives you no discussion topics. Not what I expected at all.
OMG this online class is so annoying it's incredible. There is so much to do and analyze. It's way demanding. It's just too much while there are classes that one actually needs to focus on for the major.
It is not a hard class but it is way too time-consuming, considering all the analysis that the readings need and then discussing them online with no specific topic. It's obvious he's passionate on this subject by the way his online lectures are written but avoid
Absolutely avoid this class!! My peers and I worked hard on our essays; we even got them taken to a writing center and still received low grades. He responds to his emails late. He takes much too long to grade papers. Barely available on campus. Tests are not simple, they require rigorous readings
The course is easy. However, if you are lazy and want a free A, this isn't for you. You're required to write 2 essays, take 3 exams, and make weekly discussion posts on the 6 books you have to read throughout the class. It's not boring, and it's not hard as long as you read and go over his lectures.
He is not a tough grader but theres a lot to read. It is easy to forget about the class and late posts look bad. However he is very understanding.
Online classes are very easy to fall behind on especially when you have a lot of reading to do. 6 books and many lectures in one semester. You will have to work hard to earn a good grade in his class, don't think you can coast along cause you'll fail! Only reason I wish I could have taken this class on campus is because he is a hottie!!
LOTS OF READING. LOTS OF WORK. I WOULD ONLY TAKE HIM AGAIN IF I HAD 2. 6 BOOKS!
This class in terms of content is really interesting, but you have to be aware that it will be a very time-consuming and demanding class. He posts one or two pfd lectures per week, which you are expected to read, plus the assigned book of that week, and do 2-3 week discussions based on the lecture and the book. TESTS ARE TOUGH, 2 essays not hard!
VERY clear instructions. Best thing is he gives perspective to lectures with supplemental media, doesn't just assign pages. Adds his own PoV & gives challenging questions, considering the subject matter he's the best kind of professor for it. Very funny, too. Failed 1st time (my fault) but GLADLY made sure I retook it with him
Make sure to participate in the weekly discussions and be sure to read all of the readings that are assigned. There are no shortcuts; just take notes and do your work.
Dr. R is extremely unorganized and does not care about his students. The work itself for the class is fairly easy but the explanations are vague and non descriptive, he contradicts himself frequently, post homework assignments late, and gives multiple assignments at once. I would not take this professor again. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Don't take this class. This man acts as though he is the only class students take with the amount of works he gives. He gives both questions and discussions boards every week that are incredibly vague and the TAs aren't much help either since all they ever say is "provide more details" and that's it. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, SAVE YOURSELF THE AGONY.
His class is whatever. I feel that I did not learn from him but that is also because the class was hybrid so it is hard to teach a lot only once a week. There is always some type of homework. It is easy but it can be boring at times. Overall I recommend his class its not the worst. He does know a lot about history.
Dr. Rowan is a great professor. Yes, history isnt the most interesting of topics but he does his best to relate things back to students and get peoples opinions. There a weekly assignments and 2 papers, but nothing that you cant manage. Hes very easy to contact with questions and super understanding.
Make sure to not slack off on the essays because those are weighted the most. The final and midterm are cake and attendance IS A MUST. Overall a good professor and recommend you take him.
This class is a GW so it does require lots of writing. However, the professor and TAs are very willing to meet during office hours. As long as you pay attention in class and set aside about 5 hours a week to study and throughly complete assignments, this class in very doable. Your responses must be well detailed, but you learn a lot.
So far I am finding amor lack of communication with students. The class could easily be well orgonized but it is not. It is week 6 and he just put in first grades of the semester.... the t.a is helpful.
Great Professor. Took him for senior seminar and it was an excellent experience. Awesome feedback and really accommodating during COVID-19 situation.
HATED THIS CLASS. The man is a mess but the class overall is easy. No finals but the essays are so dreadfull. LOTS OF READING AND HOMEWORK.
Since I took the class online, there was no attendance needed. All you do in this class is to read the chapters of the book and write the answers in the discussion post and do two essays (5-6 pages). I found the TAs to grade the essays and discussions quite harshly which made me score pretty low. There is a midterm and final; however, it is simple.
Took this class online. Youll need 2 textbooks. There are two long papers, a couple of quizzes, group work, and a questions from the reading. Getting an A on an assignment is definitely a challenge, youll have to put work in. Dr. Rowan is very attentive, he answers emails immediately-even on the weekends.
Took the class online; as far as the professor himself, understanding and answers emails quickly. The class itself was hard because the TAs graded so harshly BUT constructively. Expect to read a lot. Have to work for an A
I took Summer Term A, so that may influence the amount of work I received , but spread out on a normal semester it may be more manageable. The assignments are clear and he lets you know what he wants to see, he gives very good feedback. You will be under the supervision of a TA, so know that. The quizzes require reading and there is group work.
Great class. I took this course online so I didnt really get to know him personally but he responds to emails quickly and makes announcements frequently. I may be biased since I love history but this is an easy A if you put in work. Two papers each worth 25% of your grade, a fair bit of group work, and easy discussion posts. Again, simple and fun!
I took this class online, but he responded to all of my messages in a timely manner. He was also very understanding and caring when I was having done health issues and needed some extensions on done assignments. His communication is great, and he really does seem like a genuinely good professor.
BEST HISTORY PROFESSOR EVER!! He's incredibly understanding and is easy to reach if you have any questions. He gave constant updates on the course progression and truly cares for your success. Take him!!
I don't like history but Prof Rowan made this class very good. Just make sure you do all the assignments and you will pass with an A. There are two major papers that are worth a majority of your grade, discussions posts, and also a few but easy group assignments. Take this class if you need to you won't regret it!!
Harder than expected. Get ready to read. Weekly discussions and tests which aren't too bad. Midterm and Finals are in the form of analytical essays ((Total worth 40-50% of total grade) (1500 words). Grading is fair, hard to get full points but prof and ta gives B-A on average. Asked prof for extension once and he was caring enough to give.
He is a go-to professor for AMH for sure.
Truly caring and wants students to succeed. Flexible and really one of the best history proff at fiu
Dr. Rowan is an angel. He is adorable, lenient, and very understanding. However, the course is a little fast-paced, the TA's grades are really last minute, and they do not provide commentary on how to improve your work- as per my experience. This course requires a lot of reading and having the book is ESSENTIAL. Prepare yourself for 2 large essays.
This professor is so chill and gives assignments at a good pace. Not overwhelming at all, would take him again in a heartbeat. Replies to emails and cares for his students.
Easy class overall just a lot of discussions and two peer reviewed papers. Weekly exams based off the chapters for the week. Just a lot of busy work. TA's grade everything and they take forever as well.
The professor assigns a lot of assignments, but they're super easy. There's a few group assignments, 2 essay papers, discussion posts, quizzes, and a few other things as well. In my opinion, I found issues with the TAs because they would grade the assignments very late with vague feedback on how to improve. The class is fairly simple and doable.
He is amazing! It's a lot of writing but it's easy work to get done and he gives extensions if needed. The only reason he gets a 3 is because of his teaching assistants. They are terrible.. they will grade very harshly and will barely give you an 100 because "nothing can be that perfect." But if he is your only option, its ok. You will survive!
The professor himself is okay he responds to his students immediately. His teaching assistants are quite problematic. Harsh and extremely slow grading. Grades were missing for over a month and weren't graded until AFTER finals week(CRAZY). If history is not your thing, take it in person because you have to read A LOT.
A manageable course overall, just requires consistent effort. Assignments can be tedious, but the lenient professor and helpful study tools like Unstuck study make it doable. Worth taking if you need the credit.
Professor Rowan was the worst because his Teaching Assistant (TA) graded very harshly on the essays, which make up the majority of your grade in the class. When I did an essay, I cited my sources and did not use any AI to do my essay, but I still got plagiarized even if I cited my sources. Do not pick this professor if you want to risk passing!
Great guy just lots of essays.
Lots of papers and peer reviews! History is very heavy when it comes to reading, but the text for this class was interesting. Overall, no complaints. The usual discussions and quizzes required for every class. If you have to take AMH 2020, take this professor! The information was broken down into modules which were easy to navigate.
