He requires a lot of of the students. Sometimes i feel that he grades based on who you are. More the 50 of students dropped class. Expects every student to be perfect.
Jeremy (he doesn't mind if you call him that!) requires what should be expected from college students. Not an "easy a" class, but you'll get your money's worth in help from him, and learn something as well.
I would have to say that when I had jeremy in class I was a little on the pist off side but after leaving the term I realized just how much he helped me out. you have to work for your grade, and he lets you know his expectations right up front, so it is n
I really enjoyed his class and learned many things. He is the kind of teacher that pushes you to do your best, which many people see as a negative thing; however, at the end of the term you realize how good he is.

What a guy. My favorite teacher so far, i learned alot.
Jeremy kicks ass. eanough said.
Ansolutely the worst teacher I haave ever had. A complete jerk. Doesn't care how hard you try. When you would get an A with anyother teacher. You will get a bad grade in this class with him. I can almost guarantee it. No matter how hard you try.
Stand offish and rude. Speaks like he's superior over everyone else and you're stupid. Way too strict. He thns he's teaching an advanced Harvard writing class.
I absolutely depised this teacher. He's ridiculously hard. He was too hard. Even if you tried or like English, he makes it dreadful. He carried around a superior ego attitude and liked to hear himself talk. I didn't feel comfortable with him at all. Didn't like the class.
What can I say. Hated the class. He was rude, like otheres said, talked down to you. Needs to rethink teaching.
I took Jeremy's classes for four terms (varying english classes), and while he is hard, the work is worth it. I have since transfered to a university and am so happy that I learned the correct MLA formatting. Some other students at my university don't even know correct formatting. Give him a shot, I'm sure you'll think it was worth it!
He was very condescending and rude, offered absolutely no encouragement and wasn't helpful when I missed a week of class due to hospitalization. I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone as he is egotistic and needs to realize he isn't teaching a 500 level class at an Ivy League school...
Jeremy is a great teacher and his classes are rewarding, but only if you're up for a challenge! He helped me cure my writer's block. Take a lit class from him first!
Take this class if you are tired of easy A's. You will have to earn you grade in his classes and if you can get an A you will feel like posting your grades on your refrigerator. Great teacher. Down with mediocrity!!!

The worst teacher over 2 years of classes I have taken at Chemeketa. Mean, rude, and talks down to the whole class as if they are idiots. Thinks he's teaching an advanced Harvard class instead of a beginng writing class at a community college.
Jeremy's a great guy. Anyone who says he's "egocentric and rude" just isn't putting forth any effort to read into the context and think critically about what he is saying. He is always available for 1 on 1 help, just ask. All work comes back with in-depth commentary, and as long as you try your best, he will be lenient. Great teacher, hard class.
I've taken two classes from Jeremy and I've learned more from him than from any other class I've taken. Yes, the work is hard but there shouldn't be any suprises. From day one he outlines what the class is going to be like and what he expects you to learn. If you learn the material you'll get an A. If you don't, you won't.
What a bunch of whiners. Just because a teacher expects you to learn what they're teaching doesn't mean they belong at Harvard. Suprise, I'm at Chemeketa to learn something and Jeremy is one of the few teachers at Chemeketa who doesn't just read from a power point and pass out a few multiple choice tests. You have to earn your grade in Jeremy's classes. You have to show up every day, you have to study and you have to work hard. Personally I thought that's what college was about anyway.
Jeremy is a fair sweet guy. He tells you what is expected on the first day of class and as long as you have a high school diploma you should be able to get an A in his class. SHOW UP!!! You are pathetic if you don't at least pass his classes. He is very fair and is one of my favorite teachers ever and he got me interested in literature.
He was not my favorite instructor. I personally had trouble communicating with him, aswell as understanding the criticism of my writing. I know that he tried to help me, but we just did not work well together. I found him to be argumentative and unyeielding.
Not getting his teaching style. Taking an online class and can still feel his condesending, Holier-than-thou tone in his emails. If he is so good, why is he at a JC? Not very helpful, content of the course is scattered and hard to find on his website.
Once I realized how difficult and demanding this on-line course was going to be, I dropped other classes to compensate. I learned a lot but honestly, I’m not impressed with him or his teaching style. His e-mail seemed arrogant and often bordered on rude. We started out with 25+ students and ended up with 7.
Jeremy Trabue is the worst professor I've ever taken an online class from. WR 122 is a mandatory class for almost every degree and he grades like it's the highest level of writing that there is. I have always been in AP English classes and got A's but he made me feel like an idiot. Something is VERY wrong with his teaching style!
WORST AND I MEAN WORST INSTURCTOR IN THE UNIVERSE. HIS CRITICIZES HIS STUDENTS AND MAKES IT SEEM LIKE WERE ALL IDIOTS.I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE I KNOW. I AM AN EXCELLENT WRITER AND NEVER GOT A B IN ANY WRITING COURSE I HAVE TAKEN AND THIS TEACHER GAVE ME A REALLY LOW GRADE
It is truly amazing that this pathetic miserable thing still has a job after his class of 20 dwindled to a class of 4... If you like someone talking down to you and letting you know how much "you really suck" then this is the teacher for you :) Jump off a bridge before taking his class :D

This teacher is rude, arrogant and so critical that he would not give any positive feedback. Nearly all of his students dropped the course. Also, he sent weird emails, for example: WARNING YOU ARE GOING TO FAIL IF YOU DON"T SUBMIT YOUR PAPER. What the hell is that? That dude is strange. At any rate, I would not recommend him to anyone.
While it's true that Trabue actually pays attention to every piece of work that is submitted to him and gives adequate criticism, it's unfair to say that such a thing is bad for a professor to do! His classes are fantastic, and us community college students are very lucky to have such a reliable, competent human resource on campus.
Not a very respectable instructor. Too uptight with his lessons!!!

Horible teacher avoid this teacher at all costs.
Guy's a real uptight jerk. Talks down to people. Gets on my nerves. However, class was clear and concise. Be prepared to write a 5,000 (mid) word essay, and a 10,000 (final) word essay.
Wow... where to start? The guy is a total jerk. Every single person in this class Failed the mid term!! What does that tell you? Do not take his class!!
In my four years of college, Jeremy is the only instructor who ever put as much effort into the class as he expected to get from his students. He expects you to turn in quality work and you can expect that you'll get back a paper with meaningful, useful comments, and not just a token "Good Job" stamped at the top. A difficult class, but worth it.
This instructor was an arrogant jerk. He treated the class like idiots. He berated the class except his pets. He was regularly demeaning and condescending. Unless you pay homage to his brilliance your grade will suffer. Avoid this instructor at all cost!!! I got a C in his intro to Poetry course; I got an A in Adv. Poetry w/ a different professor.
If you don't work hard, you're not going to like Jeremy. The people on here flipping out about his teaching style aren't 100% incorrect; he can be abrasive, but he's a very solid professor who takes his work very seriously, engages, and expects you to also (& he can be nice!). If you can't do that, don't whine about the lack of handholding later.
i was taking another advanced class along side his english course and got an A. i got a c in his class and it was for WRT115. we were required to show up to off campus activities not pertaining to the class and were required to use the writing center, only the writing center. we were not allowed to use a past proffessor as an editor.
He is very articulate and knew what he was talking about. I learned allot in his class. I failed the first time I took his class. I agree with some of the people that he is difficult, but the stuff he teaches is very relevent to things you need to know. I enjoyed his class and would take it again, which I did and passed.
condescending,I attend every class a pretty girl misses every other class and gets no comments.he attempts to humiliate me and a brown noser backs him up and he allows it.heseemstothinkheisteaching litorhistoryheiscruelperiod hows that for grade school writing.get your esteem some other way than by putting people down.stress stops learningyoucreate
I took this class online and it was very unorganized compared others I have taken. He is very condescending and rude in his responses too. I would not recommend his classes to anyone! For a 106 class I felt like it was a 406 class. TOO much work and a 3 hr midterm and final!!
I think Jeremy gave me every oportunity to do well in his class. I was struggling and could not do my best. He kept encouraging and gave me cahances that is all I can expect. I do not Know if I passed. If I did OK if not OK. I am a grown man and will deal with my concequenses. Yes he is demanding. He just doesn't want to short change you I think.
Like others said, this teacher is anal and very condescending. I am a very hard working person who always attends class, and was also the top of my class...and I recieved a C. I honestly don't think half of the class even passed!Do yourself a favor and never take this class - he is the worst teacher I've ever had.
Jeremy has a gift...for making you feel horrible about yourself! I have never had such a rude, condescending teacher in my entire life! His class is not about learning to write and do well, it's about trying as hard as you can to write in a way that pleases him. He picks and chooses things that matter to him and ignores others. Not good preparation
Jeremy is an awesome teacher he gave me every tool I needed to succeed.Sorry if some of you can't handle the pressure, but college is all about the pressure.
You have to fight with everything you have for a C.
Jeremy was an OK professor, he is willing to work with you outside of class, but his curriculum is really hard for a wr115 class. I have gotten straight A's in my writing classes till him, and I ended up dropping the class cause it was so hard...based on Politics...the whole course...
He comes off a bit stuck up. Over half the class dropped the class by the end of the term, that is ridiculous for WR115. The entire class entailed writing about government and Political Science. Avoid this class if you are not comfortable with that. Usually in writing you are allowed some creative freedom, not in this class, just PS.
I took Intro to Poetry online with Mr. Trabue and it was a very labor intensive course. But, Jeremy is an excellent instructor and very knowledgeable about this subject. There is A LOT of reading and posting in the forums, but I learned a lot and had fun. Just follow instructions, do the work, and you'll be fine. :)
This class was horrible!!! If you are into politics then it will be easy for you...I talked to several people about this class and they said that the assignments were wr237 level not wr115...He was willing to work with you outside of class and had a lot of office time so he was available to help but the topics were way out of everyone's league
I took several classes with Jeremy at CCC when I returned to school (high school dropout). I am now in law school and doing well because he gave an honest effort and set a foundation for me educationally. Work hard, go to office hours, love the work--that is the key.
Jeremy is a fantastic instructor. This class was difficult, but I learned far more about poetry than what I'd expected to. You will get a good grade if you put forth a decent effort in your work. Jeremy is brilliant and helpful. If you get an "A", you will have worked hard and deserve it. Great class. Great instructor.
The worst professor I have ever had! He is very unorganized, and had to be asked to make himself clearer on almost everything. He always says he is willing to help, but is not very consistent on answering back. He seems to just want to be controlling. Be prepared to work your hardest, and get a C at best.
First off, I just want to warn everyone that if you don't enjoy being talked down to and being told you're basically unfit for college don't take his class. He is very rude, condescending, and is incredibly arrogant. He treats this class as if it's a 400+ English course, not an entry level one. Please think twice before signing up with him.
I took his writing class and I loved it. Yes he a hard grader, but I learned more in his class than any class I have taken in college. He worked well with his students and his feedback was very helpful. If you want to learn and are a hard worker, I would suggest taking his class. You will feel so much smarter by the time you finish.
Worst professor Im a straight A student failed this course. No matter what I turned in he would make you re due it.Then would give me a zero on anything I revised. He thinks he teaching a course at Harvard avoid this class.
Very strict on due dates yet the turn around time for his feedback on writing assignments are rather late. Instructions on homework or assignments are so lengthy that one would reread it to make sure they did not miss anything. If you sign up for this class be ready to give it your 100% time the readings and homeworks are too lengthy.
I recommend not taking this class with this professor. It is a 100 level class and he expects you to know EVERYTHING about poetry. He also has a funky grading system. You must get a C or better on the quizzes in order to take the final. I knew nothing about poetry and he made it difficult to learn. Awful class.
Jeremy was a frustrating class for me. I'm an A student and out of all my other classes this one was suppose to a cake walk. Crazy enough it was my hardest but it taught me so much. As long as you push through the frustrations, work hard and communicate with him. You will gain something from this class. I hated it but received a A I earned.
Very strict teacher, must be on time with all assignments although he is not always on time grading them if he does it within two weeks at all. Not too much help. I took this class online and would recommend anyone to take an in person, lecture with Jeremy. Nice guy overall though.
On one assignment, the entire class got it wrong other professors also got it wrong his instructions were as clear as a Beijing sky. I am an A studentIt was a simple Intro to Poetry class and I received a C where I followed up with the Int. and Adv. Poetry classes easy A's. To the condescending rater It's the Professor, not the Pressure!
Unclear grading criteria, unhelpful personality, pompous, self-absorbed, what ever you do take this course from any other professor... he will nag the class about asking questions. But be warned if you do, prepare to be made an example of for his hungry ego.
Extremely disappointed. Never failed a class until this one. He states he is there to help, but only answers your questions w questions or tells you to come to campus. Only graded on your tests, & have to pass in order to take the final. He would tell me I am getting it & then fail me on tests stating I don't know what I'm doing. Very confusing.
I took his Poetry class last term and it was my first ever online class. I will be honest, he does give you quite a bit of work, but it is completely doable if you are willing to but the effort in. I found this class really enjoyable and loved this professor! I have never learned so much from one class before! Would definitely take his class again!
When looking for a writing 115 teacher.. DO NOT pick this teacher! He does not teach well and on one test, everyone failed except one person. He doesn't give clear examples or explanations and expects you to already know what you need to do. He makes you rewrite something 100 times before he approves you to move on. If taken, expect to fail!
Professor Trabue is the type of person who will put everything he has to give into helping you along with your education. He is definitely in love with the craft of writing and is dedicated to teaching. I would highly recommend him.
The class I took with Trabue kind of felt like a reminder that you are no longer in High School. In my opinion, the sooner you can adapt to this the better you will be. That said he is still forgiving enough that if something happens like everyone bombs a test, he will make it worth nothing and go over it again until the class understands it more.
I wouldn't suggest taking his courses unless you're looking for a challenge. It's somewhat stressful, and as some have already said, he seem a little bit condescending. I'm attributing some of that to the fact that it was an online class. Overall, the course was fine. Not a fan of the grading system though.
This class was miserable. I ended up dropping half way through because he refuses everyone's essays that aren't the topic he suggests(which this year was about politics). Avoid him at all cost if you want a chance of passing and learning.
tough, but if you expect life to just hand you stuff, you're in for a rude awakening. visit with him during office hours; he really just wants people to succeed.
Level of difficulty rated a 5 because he leaves NO room for creativity. If the paper is not exactly the topic he wants, or the wording he prefers, he will ask you to fix it. His feedback system is overall ok, however, its extremely hard to get good scores bevwose of his personal views. Lame. Avoid at all costs. He speaks poorly of his family too.
This was the WORST professor I have ever come in contact with at Chemeketa. He is very full of himself, disrespectful, and down-right condescending. I would NEVER recommend him to ANYONE. I honestly am in shock that he still holds a position at the school. Whatever you do, avoid taking any classes from this rude, arrogant "professor".
This professor at first you think its easy but once he starts handing out papers it means a lot of work i had a paper turned he didn't give me credit because he said i had to redo everything for at least 3 times but if your up to the challenge try it but i would consider you not to take him as a professor
This was my first writing class in college and I was more than prepared to put in the work for it since I took challenging English classes my whole life. This course, however, made me feel as if I couldn't do anything right. Professor Trabue is a great guy but I would steer clear from this class.
He assigns Topic reports on subjects that are difficult and has a attendance required no exceptions or you fail attitude. he expects way to many essays on topics that are hard to get info on. group reading and commenting of all reports. test first class.
Very condescending but mostly wants students to succeed. If your discussion post doesnt make sense he makes you feel bad about it.
There is a test essay first day of class that counts as a grade. He doesn't really teach much instead, it's more "read this book" "revise that". Learn politics before entering because he assigns a lot of that subject. Get comfortable with tutors or the writing center because that is where he usually wants people to go and learn from.
This rating is for English two fifty, but I wasn't given that option here. He has poor communication and is rude. If you don't play by his rules, you might as well leave. I've never met a teacher as strict as him, nor have I ever disliked one so much. If you like high stress levels and never ending homework, then by all means, take him.
As the previous ENG250 student said, this professor is very arrogant. He is an extremely strict grader to the point where you will automatically fail if one element of your homework is not up to his standards. Claims it is a class "for adults" but treats you like a child, and just has an overall smug and condescending attitude. Worst prof ever.
I took one of his evening classes. He's known for his election paper, which sucked. First day of class he gave test to see how you were. I didn't not feel that he was helpful. He also gave off a uncomfortable vibe for me. He'd also cuss which I don't think is professional. His essays are what he wants you to write about, no choice on what to write.
Targets students that have an opposite opinion from his.
Professor Trabue was great! The main challenge of this class is avoiding procrastination; if you can do all your work on time you'll do great. He's very helpful outside of class and knowledgeable about what he teaches.
If you can stay on top of everything and work ahead so you don't deal with any time crunches then it is honestly not too bad of a course. The grading is so weird though, HALF of your grade is dependent on your final portfolio assignment. The grading for the summary and paraphrase assignment was nothing short of insulting
This is a difficult class
This class isn't for slackers. That being said, if you are willing to invest the time and are interested in actual college learning, this is a great class. I came out of it with enough knowledge of poetry that I did some writing on my own. I loved the class and the challenge.
This was my first college class, as I took while I was in highschool. The textbook was extremely hard to understand (it was also written by him). We got into a huge argument about one of the things in the syllabus, he insulted me and basically called me stupid. If you want to pass you need to do EXACTLY what he says to do and agree with everything!
