Lecture heavy, but he tells you exactly what's on his exams. Absolutely no trick questions, which is rare for a science prof. No need to buy books , only webassign. Only thing that can be annoying is how he can go off topic sometime and tries to cram everything in the last few mins. It's a science class, so study!!

There's no reason to purchase a textbook, everything will be available through his powerpoints. He gets side-tracked in discussing the applications of the course material; it makes the class interesting but forces him to cram the information in right before the exams. Getting a tutor is a good idea because his lectures don't always make sense.

Dr. Keeney was the best professor I've taken at GVSU. He is so caring and always there to help students in need. I honestly don't know why he has bad reviews, he was so good at explaining things and making sure the class understands what is being taught before moving on. He made CHM230 easy for me because of how good of a professor he is. Take him!

I liked Professor Keeney! He didn't require a textbook and had really detailed lecture slides and videos going into depth about the important topics. There were 3 tests and a final, all material from slides/lectures. Organic and Biochem is definitely difficult but if you put in the work to take notes and understand the material you will be fine!

I took biochemistry with Dr. Keeney and LOVED him. I pretty much failed organic chemistry and was worried about biochem but I received a B+! He's a caring, down to earth guy. Not to mention he is a genius, pharmacist, neuroscientist etc. He is smart but never has a sense of superiority, he's very approachable. I would 10/10 take his class again.

He was nice at times, but when you ask questions he doesn't give a clear response at all. His powerpoints are very wordy and long so reviewing them which is the only thing he tells you to do for his HARD tests takes forever. Constantly off topic during lecture so it was hard to follow him sometimes.
