This prof really wasn't clear and his tests were confusing. He rushed through presentations and expected us to memorize random things from the book.
He defenetely prepared you for nothing on the test and was not clear of what he wanted you to learn.
Not very clear on what he wants you to learn. Rushes through slides and doesn't explain things very well. Nice guy one on one though.
Power points are gone through very fast and it's hard to comprehend them. The test information is not clearly specified and there was so much information to know with just 2 tests in the semester.
Really nice guy but so random. There were only 2 tests this semester and it wasn't clear what to study or what to focus on. Presentations were rushed and nothing was really explained. This is really going to hurt my GPA
Powerpoints were rushed through, never referred to the book for anything. Wasn't clear on what he wanted you to know for the tests. Avoid this professor!
Very nice guy. Funny too. Not very clear on what he wants you to do or what he expects from you. Tests have nothing to do with lecture mostly just from the book. NO FUN!
I dont think he realized that this is gpy235 not gpy435. Powerpoints were rushed, and exams unclear, know africa and SA..and everything about them. I studied for this class and the results of that showed in my scores on the map exam, but as far as cultural, wow..only had two exams, other sec had 3,
I was not happy at all with this professor. I e-mailed him multiple times about certain questions and he never took the time to respond. All of his lectures consisted of him reading word for word from powerpoint; i can get them from blackboard and read myself did not give me anything worth my time.
Considering it was a Gen Ed class this class was right on. Emails were returned immediately even on weekends. Content and place name exams were nicely separated.
This professor is very smart and knows his stuff. The map tests aren't too bad but the concept tests are next to impossible. Only like 1/3 of the questions were ever hinted at in class, the rest are in the millions of study questions he gave for the test. I had fun some days and others..not so much
Easy A. Read the the book, come to class and everything else is a breeze. Powerpoints are a good help and available on Blackboard. The guy is even funny at times.
Hard class at first. Got easier lateron. Map test are easy. Mapping project was fun I used it for another class as well. I am thinking about declaring my geography minor.
Not an easy class. Dr Wagendorp tries to make geography fun and succeeds most of the time. Class paper required mapping which I had never done before. Most important, this class took care of 2 gen ed. requirements.
We had a mid-term and a final and one project leaving no room for error. He rushes through powerpoints and is not clear about a lot, you don't know what to study and getting a good grade can be hard (And I did good in this class too) He's not very helpful and not easy. I wouldnt really recommend him
a very nice guy but I didn't learn much. Everything was so fast and it blew right by me. Only three grades and wasn't very helpful in preparing for them. Wasn't very willing to help me and wouldn't respond to emails. He knows so much yet doesn't know how to teach in my opinion.
Dr. Wagendorp needs to slow down a little, pace is to fast. On the other hand 200 countries in 15 weeks is almost impossible as well. Otherwise this class is OK.
His lectures were boring. All the lectures were on blackboard, which was helpful, but he didn't give study guides for exams and, despite people asking, failed to narrow the broad subject down into specific things to study. So, I had to go through hundreds of slides to study.
Good Class. Dr. Wagendorp knows his stuff. Geography is more than knowing just places. This class will benefit me. One more exam would be helpful however.
Very erratic guy who at times is all over the place. Study hard for your map tests(only thing that saved me) because the content half of the tests are crazy hard and can sink you fast.
I hated this class!! There was a powerpoint discussion everyday, but it had nothing to do with the exams that he gave! As far as his lectures I would have rather slept, which sometimes actually happened. I dont think he should teach this class at all!!!!!!! If you have to take it please dont with hi
This class was ok; for a theme class. Prof. Wagendorp is a very interesting teacher that loves the subject he is teaching. He keeps you on your toes with his sense of humor. Never a dull moment in his class.
The powerpoints are hard to follow, the tests are hard to study for, he doesn't give study guides, I would suggest taking it with another professor
do not take this class...powerpoints are crazy, i fell asleep everyday, mapping project was totally confusing, and the tests are extremely hard. take with another prof
Really funny guy. For the most part, he made classes intersting. The mapping project wasn't too bad. You have to put time into studying, but it isn't that bad. I would highly recomend him.
I love this class
I found the class very interesting even though I hate the subject. Professor Wagendorp is a funny guy and the class wasn't bad. Mapping project was very easy even though the tests were a little tough.
Easy "A" just do the work and come to class.
Great Prof. Funny and interesting. Makes class fun by lecturing about interesting topics. Very knowledgable of the material and presents it in a clear manner. Map project is pretty cool and tests aren't too bad. You will learn a lot and enjoy his humor. He is a lot better than his horribly bad GPY collegues!
I liked his way of teaching
Follow the outlines & instructions and it is an easy A. Lecture material is drawn from everyday events which makes a boring topic relevant (I think). Map project is much more fun than a termpaper.
If you hate memorization, DO NOT take this class. You'll have to memorize a lot of crap that is useless. Me personally, I don't learn anything from memorize/regurgitate, hence I didn't learn anything from this class. Also very BORING. You'll definitely get your nap in in this class.
I was never good at geography but he presented the material well. I actually enjoyed learning where all the countries were located. Be ready to memorize locations, landforms, etc.Classes are based on a major project which was unclear but ask him for help and he's willing. Tests are difficult but study the questions all classes submit to him.
map project was easy but there was so much memorization it was overwhelming and exams were impossible. class is super boring.
I don't think I retained any useful knowledge from this class. The class is super boring and his tests hardly reflect any of the material in his notes. But map tests and the map project are really easy.
As a person, I liked him. He was fun, intelligent, liked sweater vests, & reminded me of my brother in the Navy! As an instructor, he left a lot to be desired in telling us what to expect on tests/projects. The class covered A LOT, the place/name tests required too much memorization for a gen ed, & the content tests covered little lecture material.
This professor is a good lecturer. He is very arrogant when dealing with him personally. A ton of memorization. Told class test was going to be over lecture notes and reading, the test was NOT over any of this. Class would have been way better if exams were like he said.
There is way too much information presented. It's hard to know what to concentrate on and study for the test. Tests are multiple choice, but questions are a bit all over the place. This is partly because the questions are based off of student-submitted questions. Each student must submit 5 of these per week.
Prof. Wagendorp was a fair teacher. His exams depended on the questions you submit for homework, which meant it could be easy--all up to you. Lectures could be boring. I found him somewhat interesting and very helpful when I had any questions. Good prof. overall.
Class is layed out well. Enough exams to get a decend grade. Take all exams and study a little and you are all set. There is humor and content in most lectures.
He is an interesting enough guy (cool stories about living in Europe) but his multiple choice tests are impossible -- they're not based on the book OR his lectures...it's basically guesswork regardless of how much preperation you put into it beforehand. Not terribly helpful outside of class either. I would recommend taking this with another prof.
this class sucks. There's been little explanation about the exams and projects. His lectures are all over the place and he shows random videos. He uses the MSU Geog 333 website and just randomly clicks around it. We dont review the readings or question that go along them. dont take this class with him.
If you come to class and do the weekly work it will be an easy pass. Map exams are a bore but a key to do well.Mapping project is fun I never mapped before
Not a bad class for general education reasons
He is a fun guy. He always makes little jokes, which is fun but sometimes you can barely hear him. I think this class was fun, the content exams suck, but i liked to map exams. take it its easy for your GEN ED
He is a really funny professor, but sometimes he speaks to quietly. There is no point in studying for his exams because the information is too random. The map quizzes were easy and the mapping project was interesting. Other than the exams, I really liked the class.
NOT A BAD CLASS
Knew his stuff, as long as you participate you should have no problem.
He is a funny guy, but not very helpful as far as tests go. Maybe it was just me, but I was never quite sure what to focus on studying.
He's not a bad teacher, and the class is fairly interesting, but his exams contain seemingly random information that he's never gone over. He never gives out study guides, insisting on his stupid student-blackboard-questions method that is utterly flawed.
Awful Prof! His lectures are totally random and so are the exams. The weekly postings on blackboard are useless. The only semi-cool thing is the mapping project. He makes really stupid jokes and always wears the exact same blue dress shirt and sweater vest. Sooo BORING.
His sense of humor is somewhat dry and suddle. If you come to class regularly you are OK. Use the pain in butt map tests and online assignments and anyone will do Ok
Ok class. Can move fast in class. Use outlines on BB and you will be fine. Map test help boost grade
This class is BORING if you dont like geography. Every class is powerpoint & lecture. Gives you powerpoint notes on blackboard.Does not give you study guides, so you have to study A LOT of information. Map quizes are given, but those help your grade if you do well on them.
Class is boring and pointless, all it is is lecture and porpoint. Prof is slightly humorous, but very intelligent in what he is talking about. Better off reading the book than being in class, takes particapation grades though. Tests are hard, be sure to study!
Took this as a freshmen. Pretty cool professor. Tests always have questions from the book, as well as lectures. As long as you read, and study you should be fine. If you're struggling or have questions, and go to his office hours he is really open to helping.
Lecture based, pretty boring. Not all of the lectures would be online, which made following along difficult. The information was pretty interesting, but not given in the correct manner. The tests were all multiple choice, but didn't seem to always follow the notes. I would only recommend to a self directed student who doesn't struggle already.
Good course as part of general education
This class had a lot of material from europe collected by prof. in the field. I believe he used to live there
Nice guy. Boring lectures that are not very relevant. Tests are multiple choice, but difficult. Doesn't give study guides or anything.
Lots of relevant information. Many powerpoints
WORST professor ever. had absolutely no idea what i was expected to know or study for exams. his powerpoints helped little/none. i DO NOT recommend this professor... too bad at the moment he is the only one available. take a different course if possible.
You take geography classes to learn about locations and what not but this guy just leaves you lost. You have no idea what is going to be on exams and going to class is irrelevant because he doesnt even use the info from class.
Class is Interesting, Map Quizes help your overall exam grade which is nice, but are a drag to study for. (overall worth it for the extra points) One group project that you have all semester to do. Tests are somewhat over PP material. Read, and look over outlines and you'll do fine. Dry but good humor. Interesting and definitely knows his stuff.
I am not a kind of person to skip classes but I did in this class. There is no point in coming to class. You are better off just reading the book and doing the online practice quizzes. He gives you everything need to be successful but he not a good teacher.
Not a good class to take. Lectures every class with a powerpoint. He would go off topic, so it would be better to just stay home and look at the powerpoint online.
Professor Wagendorp is a very nice man but his class takes time to get used to. He is a geography master, however is very off topic in his lectures which have nothing to do with the exams. You will become a master of memorization after this course with the map quizzes and concept exam practice tests. A lot of work and time for a gen-ed. TimeGrade.
Run away as fast as you can. Nothing he teaches in class is relevant to the quizzes or tests. You have to teach yourself everything. The map quizzes and regular exams are really annoying to study for, but they're just memorization. He puts practice tests online and the questions are all exactly the same.
Being a Social Studies Major, I need this class and I eventually will take a test on it and so I was disappointed that I didn't really learn anything. If you need this class for a Gen Ed, it is an easy A. Everything is given to you on a silver platter. If you are perhaps going to be teaching a Geo class in the future, take a different Prof.
He is a nice guy but doesn't really teacher. However, he gives you everything need to be successful in the class. He puts practice questions online and they are the same as the questions on the test. So if you do those you will do great. He seems to understand that this isn't your only class and treats it as such. Not a great teacher but easy.
I had Wagendorp my the inaugural Netherlands geo&planning study abroad. It was 2 and a half weeks and he was very informative and relaxed. We had a lot of fun, joked around, and we were keep on a pretty loose leash, but at the same time you could tell that he was serious and cared about us. Also attendance was mandatory, but it was a study abroad.
Structured terribly, but none of the GPY profs seem to have good marks on here. Class is pointless and you are only graded on the exams, which you "study for" with ridiculous online "practice exams" You learn nothing from this class. its literally regurgitating whatever you can remember from the 1k questions per practice test onto the inclass exam
This is a 100 level course and should be easy, but it was the opposite. Everyone did awful in this class, C's and D's on the exams (which there are only 3 of, and they're the only grades). I had him M/W and the Monday classes were always long videotaped lectures on Bb and Wednesday in class. He was awful and I don't recommend him for this class.
You would think a 100 level freshman class would be easy, right? Wrong. 3 multiple choice tests make up your entire course grade. The only way you can even think of passing is to take the practice tests on BB, from which he pulls questions for the exams. What you literally have to do is go through and memorize the answers and that is how you pass.
This was the weirdest class Ive ever taken. You only take 3 tests, and the questions are posted online in a quiz type setting, so take the quizzes multiple times and you've hit every question on the test. I took that for granted, and didn't put any effort into the class... So go there, listen and do the quizzes and it will be the easiest A ever.
He has an accent. He does not teach anything in lectures. You have to teach yourself. He gives you like 400 questions that could all possibly be on the 100 question test. He makes you memorize countries, cities, rivers, mountains, and land features of the entire world. His tests are worth 90% of your grade and there is a group project.
I would not suggest this class. If you think taking a class online will be easy you're wrong because its not. The time in class is useless you learn little to nothing. If you take all the practice quizzes like 10 times you'll do okay on the test but thats the only way to pass this class. Also its only grade on 3 tests so be careful.
As long as you take the self-tests on blackboard you will pass
Off topic lectures, and extremely boring. Only way to succeed is to take the online quizzes. Very odd class, was a thorn in my side all semester. Save yourself the trouble and don't take it.
This was by far the worst class I've ever taken. He is the least helpful of any prof I've had and has absolutely no care for his students. Ive never complained about a class before, but this class was so frustrating. Do not take his class. I am an A student and this class got me a C-
It was an extremely hard class. There are only three tests the whole semester and that was your grade. The hardest was studying. The practice exams for each chapter has 160 questions each. And the tests are set up like chapter 12 to 20 will be on the next exam/test. That's 9 chapters with 160 each for you to remember.
I took the class as a hybrid. There were online lectures and you met once a week. However, you don't really need to pay attention in lecture. There are quizzes for each chapter on blackboard, if you take each of these about 6 times you will do well because the exams are pooled for these same questions. There are also map quizzes, multiple choice.
This man is out there. Take this class if youre good at memorization. Dont need to show up or listen to lectures, just do the weekly questions, one simple group project and take the weekly tests in order to study for content exams (questions are straight from here) and shoot your arrows for the countries! Cake class
Prof Wagendorp was really easy. Just take the online content practice quizzes and you will be solid for the exams. There are also map quizzes. Just use the website he gives you, and you should be solid. It's basically just memorizing where things are. Lectures are pointless but I wouldn't skip often. Really easy class
This class was a cake walk! One weekly discussion board and and one exam. The exam answers are all on quizlet and the discussion boards are just using definitions in a short paragraph. Super easy!
Every week consists of an exam online and a discussion question. You are able to retake the exams as many times as possible. The discussion question is an integrated paragraph over a couple keywords from the chapter. He also is accessible outside of class. His syllabus makes him out to be more of a stickler than he actually is.
Amazing professor! Took it online and it was literally so easy. One discussion post per week, 10 exams that you can take as many times as you want and all the answers are on quizlet, and one easy group project. On blackboard he has it set where it shows if you watch all the lectures so just do that and your fine. The lectures are pretty long though
Super easy class, took as a hybrid but turned to fully online because of COVID. The in class stuff was boring but he only took attendance the first week so I'm sure you could skip. You just have to use 3 vocab words in a sentence for the weekly assignment as well as an about 25 question test that you can retake as much as you want. Easy A class.
I really enjoyed this course this semester as it was fully asynchronous. You have 4-6 lecture videos each week, a few sentences in the discussion board, an exam that you can retake as many times as you need, and a group project. I would suggest this course for anyone looking to fulfill a general education credit or as an elective course.
if you take this class online you will pass with an A. Basically you have a 25 question quiz due every week that you can take over and over again until you get the grade you want. other than that there is one really easy group project that you don't even have to do an oral presentation for. if you need an easy A take this class. and he's a nice guy
I took this class online during the summer of 2020, and I learned a lot about the Netherlands (a place I have been and will return to). The class is video-immersive and heavy on planning curriculum. A textbook is required if you don't take it as GPY 496 (it's cross-ref'd with another class). Same class w another country would be cool!
This is the easiest class I have taken. If you are looking for an easy A, take this class! Every week you have to watch about 2 hours of lecture videos, I just let them play while I read my textbook. You also have a discussion board post (super easy), and a chapter exam like every other week. EASY A!
Prof Wagendorp was a really great professor and used Skype to keep the class connected. There are quizzes on each chapter but you get to do them as many times as you want. Short essays on each chapter as well but when I say short, I mean SHORT like 3 sentences. 1 group project that took about an hour so if you do your part you get the credit.
Love this class. Hes super nice and helpful, weekly chapter exams and summaries, but the content is super informative and if you just sit down and apply yourself, youll do great.
He knows his geography and isn't a bad professor. This is an online class, so it is expected to be lecture heavy, however he posts roughly five 45-60 minute lectures weekly. His instructions are not always the clearest, but if you ask him for help, he will respond within 24 hours.
This course was a good blueprint for what college courses should be like. Extremely chill, room for error, and many opportunities to improve. It went very smoothly.
Class was very easy. If you are looking for a gen Ed take this class. I took it online. I put very little effort into the class and ended with a 95. You are able to take exams as many times as you want to get full credit. One group project at the end that was very easy as well. Super chill professor.
I like Professor Wagendorp. Its like watching a history channel show with his lectures. Pay attention and you will do fine. The material is interesting and he delivers it in a refreshing, non stressful manner. It was probably the only class that I did not want to miss any material.
Seems like a nice guy. Since I had the online course, I can't say much else. It was super easy, and he's super responsive by email if you have questions. Solid class!
I took GPY312, very weird course. The lectures were recorded between 2011 and 2016, and considering the information was on Climate Change and Natural Disasters, the information was extremely outdated. Gave zero feedback to help you and graded randomly. Clearly he put no effort into this course.
If you need an easy gen-ed to take, take this. I'm a nursing student with little time, and this class is easy. You submit a few sentences each week about the chapter, and then occasionally will have an exam, but you can retake it until you get the score you want.
Professor Wagendorp is kind and creates lecture videos well. This class was super lecture-heavy. Writing assignments weekly and almost every week you have an exam, but you can retake it as many times as you want. Work on a group project across the whole semester. Uses Skype to communicate.
Quizzes have more questions than the time allotted to take. Extremely lecture heavy. Papers are due weekly. Blackboard is the most disorganized than any other class I have taken here. That being said, this is best prof to have if you're just trying to get your gen eds out of the way. It isn't hard, but it's very time consuming and disinteresting.
Professor Wagendorp is very knowledgeable, and his lectures definitely display that. His homework assignments and quizzes are relatively easy, and he posts everything at once so you can get ahead. There is one big group project due at the end of the semester. He does most of his communicating over Skype, and he expects that you will to.
Great Prof and a relatively easy course to follow. It was asynch but as long as you regularly put in time (he tracks the time you spend on BB) and make sure you're understanding the topics its an easy pass with a A/B. The group project was confusing and peer graded but thats the most difficult thing in the whole course. Highly recommend his course!
Wagendorp's class is a great option for an easy credit. The workload is light, with weekly quizzes and a group project. unstuckstudy can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a relatively stress-free experience.
