soooo good...very engaging...really into class discussions; exciting even if you find the material a sure cure for insomnia
this professor is ridiculous...he is unfair and an extremly hard grader. He gave a papers a grade of c and d He doesnt like you if your not a republican.....I would not reccommend this man to any ccsu student
Hard but rewarding class. Very funny, interesting, and charming. . . in a quirky sort of way. Great mind accompanied by great eyes. Don't worry about doing the reading or even buying the books. Its all in his lectures.
dr. duquette really makes you think. he is not an easy grader. he takes time to get to know his students and will discuss the subject with you on a one on one basis. classes are fun, you'll never want to miss one. take him
Not very clear on what we're doing. Jumps around way too much and gives way way too much reading to do. He's very pleasant and like things his way...only. He should be an Drill Instructor not professor.
No dates on the syllabis, I ended up missing the mid term. Hard class. Unclear and he rambles off and expects you to know what he explained for the next class. Read a lot. Never gives quizzes back. Not very understanding!!!!!
First of all Duquette is a Liberal Democrat - secondly he does ramble a lot and he is easy to get off topic. I would say he can be very unclear, and I do not quite understand his points, but who knows how the end of the semester will turn out
If you ask good questions, you'll get a good grade. For this prof, if you take an honest interest and seek help when you know you need it, he'll make you're life less stressful. Really nice and gives you the tools you need to learn.
Honestly I wouldn't take this class with this teacher. He is an unfair grader, and he doesn't even explain anything about politics. His essay grades are not based on content, and all in all he is a teacher who thinks he knows much more then he really does
being able to defend your reasoning/thoughts is an essential skill for this guy. people who claim he's an 'unfair' grader mustve been mediocre writers... hes fair, willing to help, and flexible as long as you put in the effort.
This was the easiest class I have ever taken. As long as you've got half a head in your brain (which one would assume a college student should have) you'll do fine.
Don't believe all the bs written below about him being biased against those who don't share his liberal views. He hides his personal political views so well that I thought he was a moderate conservative at first. Absolutely delightful professor.
if you want a confusing cours e
LIBERAL BIAS...confusing class structure. class time is funny but you wont learn anything
Very nice guy Makes class interesting with his robust attitude. He makes his points but listens to others unless he gets carried away it's probably because he's so smart that he has way too much info running through his head.little unclear..but awesome!
Awesome! Wonderful, interesting prof. It's nice to have a prof. that actually speaks to you as though you are at the same level, which is unusal from my experience...
One of the most engaging professors I have ever had. He is not at all biased,in fact he loves having a mixture of political views in his class to further discussion. His classes can be tough, but if you do the readings and participate, you'll do fine.
This class was hilarious! Not only was he funny, but he is also very well educated in the topic that the he teaches. All the kids who say he is biased are clearly disturbed.
Tough grader but if you're clear and concise and qualify your statements, you should be able to do well. He's entertaining, a little on cheesy, but a fun prof.
jerold's lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the class and you pretty much learn nothing. he is an extremely hard grader!! he really is very condesending and unhelpful if you ask him for help outside of the classroom. he is funny though but a biased liberal.
Excellent prodessor, I could not get enough of this guy. Taught with no political bias, even though he's a Massachusetts liberal, LOL. I would take any class with him again.
All of these people who said that he is a good teacher are lying to you. He talks to you as though you are an expert when it is suppose to be an intro class. He dosent give you any type of review for the tests and his personlity sucks. Dont ever met with him one on one cause he will hurt you feeling
This class is kind of boring and quite difficult for an intro class. Three exams out of four count (lowest is dropped) in MC/TF/essay format, ambiguous questions at times, and participation is 10% of grade, make sure you attend. Drink a Starbucks every morning if you have the earlier sessions, can be a little difficult to get through the class.
great teacher. people who do not like him are people who dont like doing work. expects alot from students but it is college and all prof should expect alot from students
people who don't like him are just ****y. as long as you do the reading and keep on the news you'll do fine. he is also very willing to go over material if you do have questions.
If your bad at handing things in on-time this is your guy. He is VERY forgiving and understanding.
the class wasn't really as bad as people make it sound. really all he expects from students is to care. as long as you study from the website listed on the book, the exams really wern't that bad.
He's actually really not as biased as people say. he really tries to present both sides of every argument, and he does expect students to know the material. but as long as you study from the book, and the website, and follow the news the class isn't really that bad.
he's a bit cheesy but really as long as you take good class notes and keep on news/readings you'll do fine.
Brilliant. I miss the class already. Will try to scare people away the first day with a 'poli-sci Quiz.' He says if you dont do well (which few ppl do) you should rethink taking his class. He likes small classes. Stick him out and do the work, you'll learn more than with any other professor at Central. Be prepared to argue, it's fun.
This guy is a jerk! He doesn't explain much and expects you to read boring political gossips columns as well as a number of sections completely form a variety of newspapers every single day and then have a quiz on it all every single class. On top of that you are expected to read the textbook which will not be discusses in class and then you have a
i hated every sigle minute of his class. tough grader. you dont really know what he expects out of you, the directions for papers were very unclear and a lot of guesswork as to what he wants. lectures were rather boring and he gets off the topic very easily.
Has loads of knowledge on his subjects. Completely unbiased, despite what some say. He presents both sides of arguments, and presents his teachings as one way of looking at things, not as the only way. Fair grader and very helpful. His class was a great time, and he gets a pepper because he wants one. Take hime if you want to learn.
LOVE this guy... hes soo fun and he's willing to explain anything you need him to at the drop of a hat.
this teacher is bad professor. he is tough grader, expects you to know and be interested in every topic of the book and does not tell you what to study for the exams. and if you have to miss a test because of a reason totally out of your control like a funeral he will wnot let u make it up or take it early. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS, U WILL BE SORRY
This teacher doesn't seem so bad. His lectures are all over the place...nothing concrete at all. The information is somewhat interesting, but an apparent conservative view seems to be stressed...not bad, but not great either.

ask yourself this: do i care about politics, even a little? if the answer is no, don't bother with duquette's classes. if you do care though, even just a little, it'll be great. hard grader, but if you care about the material (key word: care), then you'll be fine.
is way too interested in his social life. thats all he talks about. never talks about the reading that is due for that day. make sure you read the paper and watch the news. tests are newar impossible. hardest class to pass.
this is the hardest class i have evre taken in my whole life. we dont go over anyhing in the textbook or the news, yet you are required to understand ever page of text by the first 3 weeks and you are required to know every little insignificant thing going on in the news. this will probably be the first class of my life that i fale. DONT TAKE IT
Terrible teacher. Hardest class i have ever taken! expects you to read the whole text book and memorize it and read the news paper daily. doesn't explain clearly at all lectures the whole class. Unless you are good at teaching yourself never take this class. 4 exams 3 count all very tough no one in my class of a 150 i think is going to pass
I highly discourage anyone from taking this class unless they have a VERY VERY VERY strong interest in politics. Tests are impossible, lectures are extremely hard to follow. He often goes off topic and answers his cell phone during class. Must read the textbook and attend lectures to pass. Grade is made up of 4 tests, lowest score dropped.
impossible....unless your read the book page for page and read the washington post everyday. Dont have to go to every class. Dont need notes. 3 tests and 1 final....thats it.
Jerold's section of the class brought in conversation but he wasn't the best in going over topics and being avilable for help and resourcing. He expected you to already have a good understanding of politics, which I particularly don't, but he connects rather well with the students.
one of the hardest intro level courses I have taken...the professor is a joke and unless you have any interest in political science I discourage anyone from taking this class with Duquette. He has tenure and he made it clear that he has no desire to make sure that the information on the exams is clearly conveyed in class.
Get out!!!!! If you are not a political science major and just taking this class as a gen ed than drop it.
This professor is seems to be two different people. On the one hand, he's extremely charismatic, and so easy to get along with. He relates very well to the students, and he has an awesome sense of humor. However, he is the HARDEST GRADER I have ever experienced at CCSU. He has tenure and could care less if you pass his class or not.
great
If you are looking forward to better your GPA, Please! Please! Please! Don't even try to register for his class cos the best grade you can prob earn will be a C if you are really good in Politics and pass his quizes every week. Run Away for your GPA life!!!!
An excellent professor. If you would like to learn anything worthwhile while at Central, take a class of his. If you're looking for a GPA booster, stay away. Worked my butt off & came out with a C. Definitely do not regret taking any of his classes though.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Duquette. He is a really cool guy, but an awful teacher. I'm not stupid, nor am I looking for a free ride thru college, but this guy is crazy hard. I worked my ass off, and still couldn't make a good grade. Also, he tends to make snide little comments when answer a question wrong. That's totally not cool.
Worked my ass off and got an A+ :) The best class ever!! What I studied in his class still helps me out in daily life. If you don't want to devote your time, however, I do not recommend his class.
He is pretty hard. But for this class if you watched the news, took good class notes, and did the reading the test really wern't that bad. There's nothing on the test that he didn't go over in class
Bad teacher do not take! doesnt care about you, your situations, your life or anything else that involves you. He brags about being from mass. He should stay there, walks around his answers contradicts himself frankly unless you need the class dont take him!
Funny Guy
He's definitely interested in his subject. He knows what he's talking about. He may talk a little excessively, but overall is interesting. I enjoyed the class.
pretty funny, very intelligent, lots of reading but if quizzes and tests aren't your thing I wouldn't suggest. Its not hard you just have to do the work. He sent an email before classes even started warning us that the class was difficult. Nice guy, no homework just reading. Interactive discussions everyday.
This guy needs to be cloned and sent throughout the free world spreading his message of compassion and justice. He is Jason Bourne.
Worst class ever, pretty much student role is to do his research for him for his next book. Why am I paying him tuition then? Crazy, goes on tangents, tries to make students drop out of class. Horrible horrible experience
BROUGHT MY GPA DOWN =( BUT A GREAT TEACHER, LEARNED ALOT ABOUT POLITICAL SCIENCE. DUQUETTE IS INTELLIGENT, HELPFUL, AND OBVIOUSLY LIKES WHAT HE DOES. MADE POLITICAL SCIENCE FUN AND INTERESTING. IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE WORKING HARD AND STUDYING A TON, DONT TAKE THE CLASS. HE WARNS YOU ABOUT THE FAILURE RATE SO TAKE AT YOUR OWN RISK!! =)
My favorite professor, and favorite class, at Central! This professor is funny, sometimes a jerk and makes fun of people but in an entertaining way, and his bark is much worse than his bite. This class made me interested in politics for the first time in my life - though I did complain every step of the way while I was taking the class.
he is def the WORST professor I have ever taken!!!! he likes to hear himself talk and puts you down if you dont agree with him. his tests are out of control. it doesnt matter if you show up for every class and go for extra help he doesnt care and treats you like a dumbass!!! DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
finished with like an 81 average, and got an A, very hard but biiiiigggg curve, take it if you like to read!
Hey I actually get politics now! GREAT guy, if you're used to sitting on your a** and people handing you A's, go elsewhere. Gives the exact test questions days before test, you already know how your gonna do before the exam. If you do poor its YOUR fault. Great lectures, funny! Just do whats expected, maybe a little extra, and you'll love him too.
I had Duquette for Public Opinion. He is very intelligent and a pretty cool guy. He gave exam questions in advance. I will probably end up with like a C but that's my own fault. Only word of advice for you Duquette is, maybe try using clearer language for your questions. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU'RE NOT A POLI SCI MAJOR, HE IS A FAIR BUT TOUGH GRADER.
very passionate- especially on critical thinking and analysis, limited class participation. my summer class started with 10, ended with 5. you get what you put into the class- I literally read the whole book the last 5 weeks. I only survived because I've had poly sci classes before. very smart and sometimes hard to understand. tests are fair
he should not be a teacher..he doesnt teach..he knows his politics but teaching it..he suxxxx..he tells u to read a bunch of chapters and gives you a quiz every class..but he doesnt teach anything..he just blabs about politics..
extreeeemeeeely intelligent, very passionate about his field, and not bad to look at either. Duquette's Left v. Right class is a must for all PS majors!
if you do not agree with his views and everything he says then you will get a bad grade, he is confusing and talks in circles. not a fun experience, do not recommend
I am a graduate student who had taken classes at several universities. He is the worst teacher I have ever experienced. He is not helpful nor does he teach anything. He tries to hide his incompetence by making fun of students when they ask questions. NEVER TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS "TEACHER"!!!
I don't really get the bad reviews on here. All he really expects you do to is keep up on current evens, and read the damn book. also, i disagree with people who say that you have to agree with him. He likes to be challenged as long as you have somethin to back up your arugment
He is very passionate about politics but also it's very negative and seems to me he wants everyone to drop his class. He doesn't teach, expect you to take a quiz without lecture and he urges students to drop his class when he is suppost to be a portal to wherever his is teaching.
He's actually a nice guy, but class is HARD! Very heavy on critical thinking. Expect ~25hrs/wk homework. Time will tell if his heavy-handed method is effective. He'd be the first to admit that he's not especially clear; it's often difficult to follow his lectures. He's a fair grader though, and offered some easy opportunities for extra credit.
This guy is very cool. Very straight forward with his expectations. Just read, and you'll do fine. Very passionate and knowledgable.
This class was extremely hard. He does ten question quizzes every class on the chapter you read. He ask random things that don't always stick out. He know about his rating and keepstelling you to drop the class. I do not recommend him at all. This was my hardest class for on intro and he grades extremely harsh. His lectures wonder from the topic.
not easy, but hes always available to help. Very nice guy, just do your work.
You NEED to do the readings. If you aren't into politics, it's A LOT to handle. I have to give him credit for being available to help, but even with help I struggled. He doesn't explain the material until after you take the quiz he gives every class. I don't recommend him
Nice enough person, but the amount of reading he assigns every week is very difficult (and of course very dull), and there are quizzes every week on the readings. Not too hard of a grader, though. But it's hard to understand him when he talks, he's very confusing and quickly wanders way off topic.
Run, if you still can. This class is unbearable, he doesn't discuss the readings but chats about current news in class, so you're basically supposed to read and understand each chapter of the book by yourself. He says the quiz's are easy if you read and look at the material which is online, but they aren't.
I do not suggest taking a class with this professor. He was difficult to reach, took long to reply to emails, was rude, and unhelpful. I reached out several times for help, and was very polite about it. When he finally replied to my email, he told me to google it. If you value your gpa and self-esteem, do not take a class with Professor Duquette!!
Look this is the most honest review you will see. Prof. Duquette expects you to work, plain and simple, for your grade. You have homework, and are quizzed on it weekly, but he drops the three lowest quiz grades. He also drops the lowest exam grades. This is not an easy class but he is excellent professor. If your lazy, choose another prof.
Weekly reading comprehension quizzes (note: lots of reading) where the the two lowest grades are dropped. He also drops the lowest exam grade (4 exams- 1-2 essays each). This is not an easy class by any means but you will learn a lot and Duquette is brilliant. If you already have a heavy course load and/or are lazy, choose another professor.
The class is very hard for people not interested in the subject plain and simple. Overall hard work in his class will pay off but getting an A requires some serious dedication. Out of class it's hard to reach him because he has so many other classes to teach and good luck if he's your advisor. Overall very enthusiastic dude with high expectations
This was supposed to be a writing class and I learned absolutely NOTHING about writing. Undoubtedly he is an extremely intelligent man, but I don't feel like he was fit to teach this class. I would not recommend him. He's very unclear and frustrating!
Not sure if it was because the course was online, but it was a nightmare. The discussion board format was confusing, when you had to comment on other threads by unclear, and communication lacking. This was a summer course and taking three or more days to answer an email was inexcusable especially when he was on Blackboard one day after I sent it.
He tells you on the first day of class to drop his class, seriously, listen to him. I thought I could take the challenge and I can't. It's an insanely tough class and I don't suggest you take it unless you're a political science major. Seriously, run for your life.
For the Honors 140 class, he is really trying to scare you into college. I am now positive that my next three years here will be easier, and much more fun, even if I put half of the effort I put into his class into everything else. He is a brilliant man. I feel privileged to have taken his class.
Many people in my class are failing. I will probably get a C, but trust me it's hard work. Told us to drop his class on the first day. His warning wasn't a joke. Drops 3 of the weekly quizzes, and 1 of the 4 exams. A little full of himself, but he seems nicer as a person than a professor. Likes "The Paper Chase," that's cool.
So half the class dropped. I'll probably get a C, that's really good for my class. No lie. Duquette's nicer as a person than a professor. Go to his office hours, or consider taking a different professor. Very tough for a freshman level course. He won't back down, even if the whole class fights him on something.
There is a quiz practically every class and they are extremely difficult. Registered late for the class and missed the "warning" to drop the class... I ended up dropping the class about 4 weeks later. If you have a hard time with the readings you're screwed. He is a nice guy but if you want a good grade I wouldn't recommend this intro class.
So many people have signed up for his PS110 class. Trust me it's a mistake. Tests are impossible, and quizzes are tough. I'm getting a C, and it's a struggle. Fighting for a B. As I said earlier, half the class dropped, and a bunch of other people are failing, but can't drop it. He his nice out of class though.
He is a very nice guy and is very passionate about Political Science but he isn't very helpful inside of class. You have a quiz every other class and doesn't review the material before hand. He encourages students to drop his class the very first day.
Just don't. Worst class I've taken. I warn everyone. I learned absolutely nothing from this course and felt like I wasted my time and money. Nice outside of class, not at all helpful in class.
I've taken Duquette for many courses, you must read to pass his courses. You have to put in the effort to get good grades. He tells you what he wants, and how he wants it, while still being kind of vague, meaning he is sometimes clear and sometimes gives you free reign on assignments. Do what you feel is right and if it isnt he will show you. WORK!
Really debated dropping this class, but ended up staying. Although this class was the most time consuming of all my classes, it wasn't as awful as I thought. He tries to make jokes occasionally and hes a good guy. I wasn't interested in politics beforehand, and taking this class didn't change my perspective. Dozed off at times b/c long lectures.
Duquette is an amazing professor. I debated dropping his class but I'm glad I stuck around. He makes you work for a grade and it is a very challenging class but I found the class worthwhile. I would take this class again and again. Duquette may have a bad rep as a hard ass but he's the best professor I've had at Central.
Quizzes roughly every week and 4 (difficult) exams. Lowest 3 quizzes & lowest exam drops. Quizzes are easy if you read the chapters. Sometimes a little unclear on his expectations so ask/go to office hours. Be prepared to read and work hard for a good grade. Many resources posted on blackboard. Don't have to even like politics at all to do well.
Don't take this class if you were looking for a grade booster or an easy A. You have to read thoroughly every chapter for homework, take a quiz on it one day of the week then talk about what you were quizzed on the next day. Then repeat.
Unless you can memorize the textbook cover to cover I wouldn't recommend this class.
oh my gosh.. toughest professor Ive ever had. Very tough grader. Passing with a C is a struggle for everyone. This is not an easy A class. Theres a lot of reading and quizzes every week. Exams are nearly impossible to pass. Half our class within the first 2 weeks dropped.
He's not that bad but it is a tough class. For the quizzes do go on blackboard and look at those questions because THEY WILL up on the quiz and final. For the exams, outline the chapters in advance so you don't stress out. Pay attention to his lectures (even if they don't seem relevant) they give a taste on what he wants on his exams. Ask questions
If you are a good essay writer & can remember them for the exam then this could be ok for you. Its a time consuming class for sure with a quiz every week on the readings. I suggest using the question bank & also taking notes in class to help with the tests. He knows his stuff & is a great professor just a class I struggled w/ & overcame in the end.
Duquette is a solid professor, never required attendance but had quizzes that were worth too much of the final grade to skip. If you read the book, you'll do well. He has a great sense of humor and is genuinely interested in imparting knowledge even if he comes off as a bit jerk sometimes
You have a quiz every Tuesday on the chapter and this class pretty much relies on the student teaching themselves. There is no extra credit, and no make up quizzes or exams. His exams are very difficult and he is a very tough grader on them. But, he is very funny and very passionate about political science.
Amazing! Tough grader. Though attendance is not mandatory, show up every class & you'll get some breaks. Drops 3 lowest quiz grades, 1 lowest test grade. Quizzes are vital & very difficult, read & memorize or you wont pass them. Show up to his office hours, you still might fail but it helps a whole lot. Only take this class if this is your major.
If you enjoy reading, you will do well in Duquette's class. Even if you don't like politics, you will enjoy the lectures. One of the brighter minds at CCSU. Funny to boot. No need to memorize anything as one post suggests, just do the readings. Go to class, take notes, ask for assistance. Office hours will prove helpful.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS STAY AWAY IF YOU HATE READING AND A PROFESSOR WHO TEACHES FROM A BOOK
He didn't give any classwork, homework, quizzes, nor projects just 3 exam without any extra credit.
This class is the opposite of an easy A. You need to work very hard for your grade. going to his office hours are very helpful.
Definitely not the easiest teacher in the world. He assigns a lot of material to read and you are graded entirely on 1000-1500 word essays as well as participation. Still he drops the worst of the the 4 so you can potentially not have to take the final if you're grade is good enough.
I took him for PS 110 and I was ready for the worst but he turned out to not be that bad. He talks a lot but so do all professors but also you have to be able to read all the assigned reading from the textbook and sometimes online reading. Your grade is based off of three exams and a final. Also he drops your worst test score.
Get ready to read! Must have a knack for politics if you want to at least get a B-!
Definitely would not recommend this class if you are not majoring In some sort of political science major. Be ready to write and he is an insanely hard grader. Also, be ready to listen to him talk for 2 1/2 hours. He may say that it will be a discussion but it truly isn't and he just talks for hours on the most useless things ever.
Not a tough grader but has high expectations. Duquette is awesome. You will learn. Four 800-word essays for this class, a couple of BlueBook and a couple of take-home. Drops the lowest grade. The textbook is not easy to read but take notes and/or discuss the materials with him before or after class - he is very helpful.
Worst class I've ever taken in my entire life 0/10 would definitely not recommend. The lecture goes on forever and he has such a monotone voice that makes you want to sleep. Very strict on grading and questions are always open to interpretation. He doesn't really tell you what he looks for in an answer.
Gives a TON of extra credit, you can earn up to 25 points onto your final grade (a C would become an A) if you do everything and get all of the points. Only 4 exams and then the final, two are take home essays and two are in class multiple choice. Drops the lowest and the final can be dropped.
The professor is NOT bias, he is very democratic and tries to get students to only see the democratic side, so he puts down republicans and only talks about the things he likes from his political party. He will NOT stop talking. He does a flipped classroom which is horrible and he's not bad with grading, he'll give u as many points as he can.
Good teacher, sometimes lets his own political views out while talking but I didn't care much. Has recorded lectures on black board so classes can be used for discussion. Has questionnaires related to each chapter the day you start it so at the LEAST watch OR read beforehand. They aren't huge grades but still matter. Exams are straightforward.
Excellent
Fun class!
If you want to fall asleep than take this class. The tests were easy and extra credit was easy to get, but I dreaded going to class and listening to lectures.
Duquette is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
For a level 100 class, he is a very hard grader that demands exceptional work.
Dr.D has been the most understanding professor of my first semester... College in a Pandemic isn't easy, but he is willing to help you get the grade. He's a good teacher and his course is interesting. He lectures a lot, but will encourage you to interrupt him with any questions. I am taking more of his courses in the future, so I recommend.
I took his online class this semester and the tests were challenging but he was very open to helping me with the exam and giving feedback. He seems like he really cares about his students. I Would recommend his class.
Professor Duquette is solid, his lectures are a bit winding and he goes on tangents but he generally stays on topic, his lectures correlate to the books. He gives out random pop quizzes so READ THE BOOK or youll get a surprise quiz you dont know the answers to, His exams are tough, writing an essay with nothing in front of you. Hes a good teacher.
Course objectives were very specific from the beginning. But the lectures started with a forty five minute rant on Trump that had nothing to do with the material we were learning. It made it very difficult to respond to the essay prompts when it wasnt covered in class.
This class was miserable. All he talks about is how much he hates Trump and gives his opinion instead of teaching what we need to know. If you are Conservative do NOT take this class. He is all over the place and is difficult to follow. I would never recommend this class.
Professor Duquette is a great man. Means no harm in his little tangents in his lectures. Lots of reading from the textbooks that he assigns. Got a C on the first exam and A's on the last two, which caused my lowest exam grade to be dropped. He means well, though his lectures are hard to follow sometimes.
When he warns you in the beginning of the year that this class is lecture heavy, take it seriously. Every class will be he talking that's it. You're graded on a max of 3 tests and 1 massive group project and he is a tough grader. You get four missed classes before it effects your grade. You can tell he enjoys his material. Boring class overall
Prof. Duquette has tremendous knowledge on the subject of state and local government, he runs the class well (it was basically a bunch of days of discussion, with two or three papers thrown in). This is the type of class I like, and Duquette certainly doesn't disappoint. 100% take him.
suuuper boring professor. Exams are easy only if you use the textbook or use notes directly from lecture, forget googling because he knows.... not horrible but not great
A fair and balanced professor, you always have a voice in his class regardless of Party. I loved his lectures and he was always accessible when needed. I would recommend taking one of his classes, he is a very engaging professor.
Although he does lecture a lot, his lectures are very knowledgeable and he does his best to get participation from students. There are readings from the textbook and then quizzes on the chapters. The lowest 3 quiz grades are dropped and you can miss class 4 times before it will affect your grade. Overall not a bad class.
This is a very lecture-heavy class, but you will have fun. You learn a lot, and while he leans to a certain political position, he never makes you feel bad for having an opposing view. Would recommend it to anyone who has a tough class load and needs a breather to relax and learn something new.
Pretty nice, gives very clear instructions in the syllabus. Encourages political conversations and wont force own opinions on students. Political differences wont affect grades. Has a tendency not to let students finish thoughts and cuts them off pretty frequently. Doesnt want to know/care ab your personal life at all dont try to explain to him
So horrible. He has assigned seating for his classes, and he has in person hard copy quizzes every single week. Also takes a week to grade them so you're going to have to wait awhile before receiving your grade. Forgot to mention he makes people buy expensive books for his class, and if you dpn't buy them then your not gonna pass.
He was a great teacher! You have to be there for his lessons and just do the readings before coming to class
Prof Duquette is a great professor. He knows what he is talking about, engages with students, and gives you many chances to improve your grade. I have taken multiple classes with him and would take another if offered. He gets excited to hear students thoughts, so he may cut you off to agree with you and further your point, but he is a great prof.
He's actually such a nice professor and funny. There aren't many assignments but that doesn't mean don't pay attention. He gives you a lot of time to work on the papers though and read the textbook as well. 10/10 would take him again and probably will have to because my minor is political science.
I liked professor Duquette, he genuinely taught me a lot about the political system in America I never thought about before and he made some memorable points in lectures, but he does tend to go on tangents a lot. He does connect his points back, but he could be hard to follow at times. Grade mostly based on somewhat challenging quizzes
The lectures can be a bit tangential, but the professor means well and is eager to help. Stay on top of the textbook readings and you'll do well. Consider using unstuck AI alongside other study tools like ChatGPT to prepare for exams.
He never gave work making it hard to learn anything. He talks a lot he tells you about his opinion often. He's funny
Loves to talk, attend class!!! His lectures are everywhere but somehow they all click and connect. He def shows bias politically which got a little irritating sometimes because it had nothing to do with the lectures in certain cases, but he means well and he's very helpful and nice 1 on 1. Exams are easy if you don't slack off.
He is very lecture heavy and talks about his own political opinion often. Attend class!! Definitely read/skim the chapters of the textbook and make use of his outlines as he wants people to participate. The exams are not bad if you study the possible questions he gives you ahead of time.
the only grades are midterm and final. they are essays and he gives the prompts ahead of time. the essays have to refer back to the reading that ur supposed to do throughout the semester but I never read once. average grader. lots of extra credit. the hardest part is sitting through his lectures and he decided to not allow electronics so...
Took two 8 week courses this semester with Duquette. This professor doesn't really have notes on the board, so you have to kind of figure out the notes for yourself. Both of the classes consisted of a few papers with several quizzes every week. Pretty easy professor as long as you follow the syllabus.
Took this professor for an 8 week class, hear me out. Lots of reading , met up with him 2 times a week for class and since it was a 8 week course there was an quiz each class time. The questions for the quizzes are the bolded headers in each chapter. EX: “Why is gov Necessary, give 3 reasons”. Just make sure to do the readings. Good luck!
Great teacher and is passionate about what he talks about. However, he promised to change a low homework grade and told me to nag him about it until he did it. I reminded him for three weeks but I ended up getting an email at the end of the semester saying that grades were closed and that he could no longer change it. Procrastination at its finest.
