J.Hammond can be funny - but his exams are tough! Getting help in the class is also not very easy. At time he can be **** and cocky... so as long as you don't have to talk to him - your in luck.
Tough class b/c of his exams - make sure you show up to class because it will give you a lot of credit at the end of the semester. Gets off topic, but funny!
Flirts a good deal with female students and tries to be funny but basically is not. Tiresome and annoying.
This guy is great! he wants you to perform at the top of your game but his objectives are clear so it makes the class easy. he's not good about getting tests back though. other than that the freeflowing class is great!

This guy is very much interested in being cool. I felt like the class was more for him than for the students. He is not the most approachable and seems like he wants to be a "chip off the old block".

seemed like he had a decent grasp of the material but was a little arrognant for my tastes. perhaps if he was a fantastic scholar or teacher, his overall attitude might be tolerated more.
change your test format a bit, the class was informative and interesting but if a student sucks at multiple choice, then our grade is shot from day one!

He's a character, alright. His tests in this class were really, really hard- so make sure you show up to class or you won't do well! He tries a little too hard to be cool, but he's an all-around good professor. I learned a lot from him.
Impossible as a teacher - hilarious as a person. The lectures are interesting and funny, but translating that to a test format is often difficult. Challenging is the nice way to put it.
Consistently recieves low student evaluations, but due to his "connections" he is able to remain at Lee. Interestingly, he has also received a new promotion...Congrats Jerome!!
Very funny, keeps class fairly interesting, but tests are way too hard. You feel like you understand the material, then do really bad on the test b/c it looks nothing like the lecture material. Hard to keep up with. And I have to agree that he is kinda cocky...not bad, I liked him for the most part.

Great teacher. He's not that hard! He gives great review sheets, so if you actually study them you will get an easy A or B. I suggest all Lee students to try and take one of his classes

Ummm can we say cocky, full of ourselves, I mean how much can one talk about himself and his kids. Yeah the lectures were interesting but when it came to the test why bother coming to class when I can just read the book, But why bother with this b/c he is way to connected with Daddy in law.

Had this class with Drs. Conn and Hammond. Dr. Hammond was a great lecturer and made class interesting. He has a real interest in the topic. Quite strict in class.
he's a bit inappropriate in his lectures.
Dr. Hammond was never clear about what he was testing us about. He never explained the application of what he was teaching. He forced us to buy the new text even though a lot of us had the previous version. After buying the book, we all noticed there were little to no difference. What a waste of money for a poor college student.

A lot of people feel it's a "all about me" show for 90 min. Yet, I learned a lot and found him very interesting. I think he's very knowledgeable too.

Jerome, Jerome. You are never nice whan I see you on campus. You are the cockiest Christian I encountered at Lee. By far. Your class was like a standup comedy routine-- frought with potty humor and stories about your ill-behaved children. Also, you have sex on the brain. Perhaps, if I had learned about PSYCHOLOGY from you-- things would have ben more copacetic between us. Alas, it is understandable. When I had you, you didn't even have a DEGREE in Psychology. Just a seminary degree.
Hes absolutely hilarious. Class is a bit early tho so its hard to stay awake. Warning:If ur a stiff southerner, do not take the class. Your delicate sense of decency will be offended. As for all the normal people, he's hilarious. Makes the class tolerable.
Dr. Hammond is arrogant and mean. He has no care for the feelings of his students. I feel that at a Christian University, we should have professors who are men and women of God.
Awesome teacher-perfect team!! Psych Assistants rock! Go to the class and study sessions and read the book-get an A! No brainer-just do it. Love Dr. B!!

He is hilarious in class. Tough tests, though...
dr. hammond's was a fun class to go to, however some of his remarks were questionable & ****ed. if you want a good grade, be sure to go to the study sessions w/ the psych assistants.
He knows the material but depends only on his knowledge to get him through the lectures. I doubt if he prepares for class at all or if he just reads the power point and teaches what comes next according to the slides. He is also rather ****ed (I really don't want to know that he and his wife made out before class). Tests can be tricky but easy.
Dr. Hammond is awesome! His class is the most fun and educational that I have ever been too! He is real. He tells it like it is, and is not afraid to say what he thinks. If you cannot handle what he says then you are probably one of those very sheltered goodie goodies whose parents have shunned you from the world! His tests are fair!
Jerome seems to be a very arrogant person. He desperately wants you to think that he is like Dr. Conn. i.e. By him stating several times that ALL women marry men like their fathers...yeah right. Sorry Jerome your nothing like him. Read the book and learn concepts by applying them to real life situations. Made an A, never attended study sessions.
easy class. i never cracked a book and made a C. but hammond is extremely arrogant, and just listening to him severely aggravated me. i very much hate the man.
Says he test over lecture but test completely over reading. Test extremely difficult.
Attend class for attendence points. He doesnt cover material well at all. Can be 1-2 slides in a 1 1/2 hour class (rambles on and on over the same stuff). Attend a study session close to the test (this is when the assistence will have a copy of the test with them), read the chapter 2-3 times (its short), get an A.
I LOVE JEROME! He uses a lot of examples as to make the concepts clear and understandable. Yes, his tests are challenging but THIS IS COLLEGE!! Come on people, you're here to study so stop complaining. I learned a lot and because of his class I decided to minor in psyc! Very nice outside of class, as well. Hilarious.
He's a great teacher, funny, interesting, and extremely informative. Don't hate on him.
He's an okay teacher who gives a lot of examples of concepts, which are, for the most part, useful but can get quite tiring. He doesn't get through many slides from the powerpoint, so learning primarily comes from the text. Make sure you have one if you take this course! If you go to study sessions near the test date, you will be fine.
He's not very good at staying on topic. And I don't agree that Theology can be separated from Psychology, especially for a Christian psychologist, like he suggests. I feel like a lot of class time was waisted. I was disappointed we didn't have time to cover more material.
I don't understand how you can NOT like Hammond!!! He is so interesting and funny that you can't help but to get up and go to class! He also give plenty of funny examples to help you out. Go to the study sessions, they are what REALLY help you on the test. I would recomend Hammond to ANYONE!!!
Dr. Hammond is hilarious but occasionally a little offensive, and his class is usually entertaining, but you don't learn much. Which is fine if you just want an A - you should be able to get one without too much stress.
Dr. Hammond teaches this class along with Dr. Conn. Hammond is FANTASTIC. He is absolutely hilarious, although can be a bit insulting. But he makes things extremely relevant, and is very easy to listen to.
This class was seriously the reason I got out of bed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I adored the class and Hammond cracked me up every day. I learned a lot, and because of his teaching style, I remember everything. The people that are giving bad ratings probably just didn't read the book and did bad on the exams. He gives you exactly whats on the test.
Dr. Hammond is hilarious! He is a wonderful man and very helpful. I think he does a great job making the textbook come to live and giving great examples
He is an awesome teacher. Go to the provided study sessions before tests because everything that's going to be on the test is talked about there. Be prepared to think about why you do things the way you do. He sometimes says things that take people outside their comfort zone, but I loved every minute of his class.
He is a risky teacher for Lee. I would not recommend him. Arrogance is a big problem but works very hard to be funny.

Dr. Hammond is one of the best teachers I have ever had! He keeps me so interested that even though I'm exhausted, I can't help but pay attention and enjoy it all at the same time! I would HIGHLY suggest that anyone who has a chance to take his class to jump on it ASAP because it always fills up quickly! :)
Dr. Hammond is a great professor. He's just one of those people who can manage to teach a class and give a lot of information while being funny at the same time. He can definitely give good examples. I had him for a class that he taught along with Dr. Paul Conn and it was awesome.

Dr. Hammond is an excellent professor. His lectures are great and very entertaining. Take good notes, read the textbook, and make sure to go to the review sessions and this class is an A. I would definitely recommend him if you need to take a psychology course.
I was very excited to take this class only to be extremely disappointed by it. His lectures are all over the place and most of the time they don't have anything to do with the class material. He runs out of time to teach what we need to know for the exams. Sometimes he starts randomly yelling so you definitely won't fall asleep.
His lectures and powerpoint are all over the place. The lectures can be interesting at times but he tends to stay on one point for 2 class periods. You will get his "Uncle Jerome talks." There are only 4 exams and 1 attendance grade so if you mess up on one, then it will be hard to make an A.
I will say that if you take Hammond's class, you won't fall asleep. But will you learn anything? That's the bigger question here. He simply loves telling interesting stories and giving examples, many of which are funny. But he rarely uses class time effectively and can often go on meaningless rants about celebrities and politics. Read the textbook.
This class is 100% lectures. Most the time-if not all the time-the lectures have nothing to do with any of the material we are tested on. He rambles for an hour, goes quickly through the powerpoint, and class is dismissed. I rarely showed up and I passed. Exams aren't hard at all.
The hard thing about this class is that there are only 2-3 tests and one final exam. You don't have any other opportunities to bring up your grade.
Dr. Hammond is one of the strangest prof's I have had at Lee, and not in a good way. His teaching style is kind of creepy and his examples that he gives in class and uncalled for. He definitely knows what he is talking about but his "too much" gene is real.
Dr. Hammond is a real character, but that's what makes him such an interesting professor! He's not afraid to stand out and talk about touchy subjects. He's very approachable. He cares about his students and is passionate about success in college students. Only 3 tests then the final. Read. Take notes. Go to class. One of my favorite courses!
Dr. Hammond co-lectured my PSYC class, and he makes the content interesting with stories and Uncle Jerome talks fairly often. If I had an extra time slot to fill with another class, Id take his again.

dr. hammond is exceptional. really funny professor, never a dull moment in the class, once in class the projector was out so he improvised and started teaching, and i actually understood him better without a projector, that was one of my most well most taught lessons
Dr. Hammond is a good professor, but he is just plain weird. His lectures can be funny, but are usually strange. He is an oddball. The class was easy, so I think it was worth it.
Easy A if you just show up and listen. he can be scatterbrained at times but overall good lectures. his teaching assistant goes through and highlights everything in the textbook that will be on the test and also holds study sessions the night before the test where they go over the exact test. Would recommend.
Took me a min to warm up to him - I hated the guy after the first class. He's passionate about Psyc and extremely intelligent - probably why he makes some people uncomfortable. He always tries to fully answer questions and fixates on topics. Don't sit in the front row if you're thin-skinned. Take Hammond, it'll be fun :) Read the book at home.
Knows his stuff, but spends most of his class time mocking students. Thinks very highly of himself. Honestly, just take Conn or Milliron if you want to learn psych, take Hammond if you want to hear about how great Hammond is.

Please don't listen to the negative comments you see posted. I took Dr. Hammond this semester and loved his class. Even though the semester could've turned out rough because of the virus, he went above and beyond to teach our class and connect with students. I have learned so much this semester and look forward to taking him again next semester.
Dr. Hammond is a phenomenal professor. He makes the material interesting, understandable, and applicable. If you want to really understand psychology, take Uncle Jerome. His impeccable humor will aid you throughout the semester because his jokes correspond with the information. No textbook, but the exams come DIRECTLY from the study secessions.
Dr. Hammond is a great professor who knows what he's talking about. He uses humor and sarcasm to engage the class in new and different ways. He challenges the thinking of his student's and asks hard questions. I took his child development class and it was absolutely fascinating. I would definitely take another one of his courses!
I really tried to like him. As I read these positive reviews I thought, "did we take the same prof?" He is scatter brained, goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with class, and then speeds throughout the powerpoint at the end. Prepare for him to shout 'mama' for three minutes per class. Lectures arnt terrible but he WILL waste half of class with 'uncle Hammond time'. A bit egotistic. Tbh just go to the lectures and live on Quizlet and you'll be fine. Warning: if he assigns the Formula he will require a 2pg/ch. Paper during finals week. If you can avoid him: please do.
Dr. Hammond is a nice person, but that does not mean he is a good professor. His classes are lecture-heavy and he is not afraid to give pop quizzes. If you try to contact him about anything, he is so hard to reach. He also assigns a 14-page paper the week of finals with no warning. Don't recommend taking his classes unless you're okay with this.
Dr. Hammond is a really interesting professor. He gives a lot of lectures, that sometimes go off in random directions. The exams are pretty easy to complete. There is a paper assigned at the end of the semester, but as long as you complete it with good effort you will do fine. I enjoyed taking his class.
Honestly Hammond is really funny because he thrives on awkwardness so he creates it in class. I swear he must have ADHD because he just rambles on about random things and then will shout weird things like mama 10 times. His exams are over 100 questions. He isn't bad, just meh.
I took Hammond for personality theory and it was easy. I did not learn very much in his class, I feel like it was kind of a waste of time. He did not really assign homework and his tests were open note, online, and untimed (very long though). I enjoyed his lectures and he was very engaging, but I probably would not take him again
My best description of Hammond is that he thinks he's the teacher from the dead poets society, but he's not even close. His lectures are just him talking to hear himself talk. He makes attendance mandatory and then gets mad when students act like they don't want to be there. His classes are so easy, the only struggle is showing up to class.
Hammond is pretentious and likes to hear himself talk. Easy A with open book exams that are long but you can take them at home. I recommend literally anyone else if they're available. Attendance is mandatory but useless since it's usually just Hammond rambling for 1:15.
Quite literally the most arrogant man I think I have ever met. Attendance is 50% of your grade-other 50% is 3, 100 question exams that are online. If you have the self control & patience to listen to a man lecture every class abt how he will never get fired due to the connections he has, followed by polarizing political comments, then its an easy A
As many others have said, he is very funny and enthusiastic and makes the class something to look forward to, but he doesn't manage class time well so it's hard to learn and he is not good about reading emails or getting grades in and he is very arrogant, so if you are ever at odds with him, good luck. He is genuinely manipulative.
This was my least favorite class simply because of his teaching. First of all, he made several inappropriate comments towards the student body and the facility of the school. He also was never clear about due dates or service learning opportunities which was needed to pass the class. He brought in HIS point of view on everything.
I enjoyed his class He is a very funny and engaging lecturer. I learned a lot of very interesting stuff One thing that people either love or hate about his classes is that all his exams are take home/open note, I did not care for this method but it did mean you can get an easy A. the writing assignments are fun and you dont have to read text book
This genuinely was a good class and his lectures were very interesting. The biggest problem I had with it was the exams. These are online exams (which sounds good at first) but have nothing to do with the lectures, and are based on a book that isn't even assigned to read. He is also very hard to get in contact with. He responded to 1/4 emails .
Graded on very few things so turning in work and on time is very important. Go to class, take notes, pay attention and you will be fine.
I truly despised this course. He put as little effort into compiling slides, notes, exams, and homework as possible. He was always late uploading exams, which screwed me over more than once. None of the work is hard. He attempts to keep students engaged by saying out of pocket, woke stuff but never clarifies the negative, crazy stuff he says.
words cant describe how conceited and arrogant this sorry excuse for a professor is. If you want an easy A, take this course, but if you miss something or dont like how you performed, dont bother reaching out or expect any real human sympathy. I think this prof. genuinely believes he knows all there is to know. He needs to review his own human dev.

Hammond's class can be hit or miss. His lectures tend to veer off-topic, but the material is generally straightforward. Attendance is mandatory, and he can be quirky. Staying engaged and using tools like unstuck AI can help make the class manageable.
