Hard class, but everyone does bad so it equals out.
Really boring lecturer. Everybody always slept in that class or didn't bother showing up. his lecture notes dont have examples because he wants people to show up to his boring lecture and take the examples from there. you will do fine reading the book.
hard class if you dont do any work. he is a really boring guy and his lectures suck. he uses powerpoint and posts all the files online so you can easily get them. reading the book and doing the homework helps the most for his tests.
CHE 107 with Keister is a matter of just reading the book with the lectures. I never really found him boring, I spent most of class time taking a lot of notes. Speaks English, posts the slides online, and seems friendly.

The class is only hard if you never show and feel the need to sleep when you do. Read and look at the prac. exams because he simply copy and paste them and changes the variables. Howver, the damned lab is worthless.
He is VERY helpful if you simply ask! I was failing his course miserably in the beginning but when I ASKED FOR HELP he explained everything so I understood it. Great guy.
This class is extremely difficult. However it has nothing to do with the teacher but instead the content of the subject. The practice exams online are a BIG help. If you make sure you know the stuff on those you should be great.
class is really boring, but its the material, not him. the practice tests online are really helpful. he's a nice guy and willing to help you out.
horrible teacher
He knew his stuff and how to organize it. I just wish his voice was not so soporific.
For my first year in chem i think i did quite well. Practice exams were very helpful, lectures unclear at times, but he was available to clarify and was a great help, and you could never go wrong having Sherman as a TA, wooo
If I ever have him as a teacher again, I will put a bullet squarely between my eyes.
This class is a hard one, however keister is a good teacher. His pracitce exams were really really helpful, and if you do the work (like read the book BEFORE LECTURE) then you will get an A no doubt! KEISTER ROCK ON!
lecture was tedious, and the class is hard if you don't keep up on the homework. keister is a nice guy, but fails to make chemistry tolerable. it is possible to do well if you keep up with the work. tests are very hard, but fair.

yea... he's a nice guy, but i basically taught myself in order to get decent grades. wish i would have known that at the beginning of the semester.
Nice guy however he is TOO smart to teach the basic level class. He isn't very good at teaching the new chem student. Just work extra hard for that passing grade.
I hope i never have this man again, because if i do, im taking a leap of faith off the top of NSC. USELESS. I hope youre good with a book. youre going to need it if you want to go anywhere in this class.
This guy is the most boring monotone guy i have ever met. if you want a class to get some good sleep in sign up for one of his chem classes
boring, monotone lectures. You start out with bright hopes of going to lectures and paying attention, but the fact is the only way you will pass is lots of studying on your own. Practice tests allow you to pass with lots of studying even if you don't pay attention to lectures
As said before, he is way too smart to be teaching this basic level course. He talks and it just does not make any sense. You MUST read the book if you have any hopes of doing well. I unfortunately never took chemistry before, so I'm happy with just beating the curve.
He's too smart to teach freshmen chem but at least he weeds out the kids who don't take school seriously. Tests are multiple choice and hard because he anticipates how you'll mess up the answer and makes that a choice. If you think class was tough, wait until PHY107. Then you'll respect Keister.
this it the hardest freakin class- and it doesn't help to get Keister as a teacher-he is so incredibly boring-look around in his classes..everyone is alsleep or not paying attention-a guy in my class was snoring yesturday-it was the funniest thing that's happened in that class-keister didnt notice!
You dont get any more boring than professor jerry keister. He doesnt show any interest at all in helping students. even one on one he is a very unhelpful guy. Which is definitely an understatement. Have fun in his class. The test are similar to the ones posted on UB learns.
He was very boring. His tests are similar to the ones on UB learns, but he just wants to put you to sleep instead of teaching you. He is out of his element teaching freshman. He would be much better teaching grad students.
Keister knows the subject material extraodinarily well; unfortunatly the way he teaches is boring beyond measure. Most of the students skipped lecture or slept during lecture. Nice guy.
Very smart man but does not know how to teach the class. He is to smart for the students and can get very confusing. If you take this class find a study group and go to office hours and you will do fine
Great at lecture if you attend. He pretty much tells you waht will be on the test. Just go to lecture and pay attention and you'll pull an A easy.
He is realy BAD
God this was a boring class. I went to the lectures only to day dream or fall asleep. I really tried to understand the course material but it was just too hard to concentrate on his powerpoint. He's a nice guy, but the way he teaches is so hard to follow along with.
Don't realy have to go to class, but it would be good because he give hints about what is going to be on the exams. The class really isn't hard especially if you study on your own and do your homeworks! Of course, go to office hours for extra help also.
Really Really boring. Has a monotone voice that puts you to sleep.

Pretty good teacher, knows what he is talking about. Probably SHOULD be teaching higher level classes -- he tends to go a bit too quickly through important stuff, assuming we know it already. Doesn't do that too often though. Oh, and the exams aren't just similar to the ones on UBLearns, they're almost EXACTLY THE SAME!!! (hint, hint.)
He is a decent professor. This class is better if you have a TA who is an easy grader and goes over material.
knows what he is doing. However he is the cure for all insomnia very hard to learn from.
I disliked Chemistry from the start. Kinda boring, I learned pretty much everything from my TA. He shows you everything thats going to be on the test so it helps. Overall and average professor...
I love this professor. He is very clear if you just stay focus in class. And he is also a very nice person.
Sorry, I mistaken my last rating...I'm the person who said "I love this professor.." The helpfulness and clarity ratings suppose to be 5, not 1. Sorry. Also, he really keeps the class updated through emails, and postings at UBlearns, as well as in class. He also makes hard examns easy...in a way, if you just stay focus
Horrible professor, he could not keep my attention or the rest half of the class... but i had a horrible TA as well, so that didnt help, drop out of recitation if u have David Wells (he doesnt kno ne thing about chemistry, he doesnt even teach the class, tells us to teach ourselves), but the good thing is old exams are on UB learns which help alot!
Not too hard, really borring, old exams on UBlearns are the best for studying. His notes are on UBlearns too. TA was wonderful.
probably one of the most boring teachers i've ever had. not sure that reading off powerpoint slides classifies you as a professor. Lecture room was full at the beginning but near empty towards the end of the semester. Old exams are the only way to study. If you have Elmer Mojica as a TA you're set.
not a great teacher at all, very boring, i didnt understand wat he was saying, basically, the txtbook is your teacher and try his tests online, thats the only way to go. Make sure you get a good TA, mine was sooo frikkin slow and annoying. if you get a bad TA like i did then you arent gonna get much help from the chem staff in order to do well.
Sure, his lectures are boring and he drones on, but if you go to class and pay attention, you'll survive. Don't be a part of the 50% that doesn't go to class. This class needs some serious work to get a A- or A. Ask questions, he is very knowledgeable.
Jerome is a genius, but expects you to have the same amount of knowledge in chemistry as he does. Go to lecture and ask question, he will answer everything. Hope for a good TA.
Extremely boring! He doesn’t really teach much either. I stopped going to class and read the textbook instead because he only teaches about 25% of the info you need to know. He’s a nice guy tho.
i got a 5 on the AP exam. They didnt take my credits so i took the class anyway. But had to resign mid year. Hard ass teacher. Practice tests dont help
Jerry is pure genius in chem, and expects you to be also. Go to lecture and ask question, he will answer everything. TA is great at helping, and labs are not that difficult. Try to get a Mid day lab! There are 3 Tests for the semester that count for 4/5ths of the course, making lab and homework almost pointless, do well on the tests!
Lectures are pretty informative, but you still learn the material best by reading and doing homework, which is mandatory. Grades are pretty low, but there's a good curve.
he is so boring and all he does is read of the lecture slides.
Expects a lot out of students but is also incredibly helpful if you ask for help. If you go to all lectures and study off old tests then class is not difficult at all. Hes a very good teacher hes just hard to adjust to
He is a nice guy, the lectures are boring as all hell and you can't stay awake, get in a chem small group, but then its pretty decent. HUGE curve
good teacher and is helpful when asked questions in or out of class. Test tend to be rather difficult but the avg. is usually a 50, if you get above an 80 you automatically get an A. Mandatroy for engineering major, if yout take CHE 107, take his class.
Get him for Chem for Engineers. He makes the tests and tells you what you need to study for. What what I hear he's a lot better than Riaz.
Lectures are boring. But he does his best to convey the information. He teaches on power point slides that are online. I recommend going to class tho. He's not the worst
Terrible teacher, but not a very hard class. Keister is boring and not helpful at all. Curve is very good though, and TAs are helpful.
Pay attentioon in class - he gives examples that show up on tests.
He is a nice guy, and a good teacher, just a little dry.
If you are reading this, then you probably have no choice but to take chem.Chemistry, Keister, and watching t.v. golf are similar in the aspect that they are all mind-blowingly boring. However, if you must take che 107, Keister is you best option. Homeworks suck even though they are shortened, but labs are not terrible. Tests can be tricky.
not really the most fun class to sit though. his lectures are online but you need to read the textbook and go to class. he doen't make chemistry interesting. if you do not study the class is hard to pass.
Keister is extremely boring to listen to. I do have to give him credit for being up front and clear with the class. The first day he said that you are going to have to work for an A. He also told you "Study the tests" to prepare for the tests. Taking and re-taking the tests he posts online is EXTREMELY helpful.
Not easy, but not extremely difficult. Lecture slides are online. After the first couple of weeks the lecture hall is down to 1/10 its original attendance. Old tests are availible online. DO THEM! they really prepare you for his tests. Lecture though is boring.
Notes online, however, he clarifies the material in class. Read the textbook be4 going to class. Exams are either easy or hard, its just how you study. Do practice exams online, they are EXTREMELY helpful. Get about 80% in the class and u have an A
One of the better lecture professors. He stops lecture to answer questions. He is very accessible through email or face-to-face. Offers notes online, which is very handy. Class is still difficult, but he makes the effort to teach it correctly and thoroughly, all you have to do is make an effort too. Tests are hard, so study and read text book.
Stands in front of the class (200-300 students) and rambles on about chemistry. Can be confusing, but he is very willing to accept questions, and he does his best to answer them (normally he answers them well), but he is just so boring.
He's a very boring professor, and knows it. You just need to keep up with what he talks about in class, and do the reading and you should be fine but when I say he's boring, he's REALLY boring...
Very boring, there's always kids snoring in class. I stopped going a few weeks in cause I kept I falling asleep. All the homework is done online. Class average is a ~65 percent before the curve.
Keister was a very good teacher. While he is boring during lecture, if you sit in the front row or two, he really isn't that bad. If you sit in the back, you will get distracted and get confused very quickly.
Ok teacher but soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring. Bring laptop to avoid boredom
Not a bad chem professor if you actually make an effort. Bring your laptop to avoid those really boring days but try to pay attention as much as possible.
This was absolutely the worst class i had all semester. If you fall behind on one test it extremely hard to keep up with the class average...As of now we have not been told about a curve but when it seems like the class average is a 50...a curve is mandatory...good luck..and make sure you have a laptop with you to survive the boredom during lecture
Typical boring chemistry class. Dr. Keister is extremely knowledgeable and answers questions well, if you can stay awake long enough to ask them! Homework is done online and worth a tenth of the grade, but necessary to understand the material. TAs are all good and helpful. If you can pay attention in lecture, class is not hard to pass.
Never went to class because of how boring it was, i ended up with a c in the class without studying for any of the exams. Exams are a majority of the grade which means one bad one and youre in for a rough semester, im glad i escaped with a passing grade.
I thought he wasn't that bad. Chemistry lectures are always gonna be boring and tht's not his fault so i just never went and the notes are online so why go. i read the txt book word for word which is where my grade came from.
Simply just terrible. Try to be in any chemistry class besides his. Going to class is pointless because he does not explain well and then repeats his bad explanation when people ask questions. Tests have information not on in lecture so you must look at last years tests to study.
I promise you that.. it is easier to sleep in his class than in the comfiest bed ever.. exams are tricky.. however, if you study everything in the textbook and do all the online homework correctly.. A guarenteed
Sooo Boring. That about sums him up. He puts a practice exam online for each test, including the final. Study them! The final had some questions that were identical. As long as you do the homeworks, try to pay attention, do all your labs, and ask good questions/pay attention in recitation, you'll be fine. Just don't ask to be awake during lecture.
Dr. Keister is a great guy, class is boring and easy to not focus but he does a good job teaching and if you pay attention you actually learn a lot. Even in a big lecture hall he stops frequently to ask and make sure people understand. Tests are easy, gives practice tests that are exactly the same. Overall great teacher I would recommend him
Its so easy to just not go to class, pretty boring. But i've found that when you actually listen and pay attention he does teach the material well. All you need for the test is last year's copy which is available and you'll do good.
I loved this professor! He was super nice. Looking at past exams that he provided helped with studying. I was never bored during lecture. He's very clear and uses good analogies to explain hard topics. Def would recommend him! I was afraid of Chem before!!
I took this over the summer. Ok class, failed the 1st exam but passed with A-, got an A on everything else. He's very nice and approachable but u will get confused and not know how to ask right questions. TAs are helpful if u get a good 1, go to office hours and Rec for extra help. Labs graded by accuracy not by correct calc. Overall, ok class
If you are good at chem, you will do fine in the class. But if you're like me, not a chem person at all, then you need to work really hard. He makes things complicated and is kind of boring, I honestly learn better watching MIT/khanacademy videos. Go to ur TA if they're good. If CHE107 is required for you, be prepared for all nighters.
A very good professor. You just have to know what he is thinking to be able to get a good grade, and you will be able to do so just by attending class and doing your homework. If not, then good luck failing. He is always ready to answer questions. You will learn so much from him.
Went to about 3 lectures at the beginning of the semester. I ended up with an A-. He pretty much reads off slides, you're better off just learning things online and doing the HW. Recitation can help, labs are tedious and pointless.
Stopped going to lecture because I couldn't understand a word he said. I taught myself using the textbook. After I started teaching myself, my grades improved.
Took him during summer, bombed first exam w/a F. Completed course w/ A-. Just do practice tests over&over he uses the same questions over&over. Go to TA for help READ TEXTBOOK. He's not that bad, just try and pay attention but doing practice tests will give you an A in the course.
Keister's lectures are basically supplemental to the textbook. Theoretically, you could probably skip all of his lectures and just read the textbook thoroughly, and you'll be fine. Keister isn't super-clear about the material, and he doesn't do very many practice problems. Go to recitation, understand the homework, and definitely read the textbook.
Going to lecture is pointless, your better off just reading the textbook. Not to mention that his notes are already online, you can just read those and understand it better, making lecture useless. Very boring and horrible at teaching.
This mofo needs to get himself a new microphone and a haircut. He yells at you for not asking questions and needs a new wardrobe. He NEVER explains anything and no one has any idea what's going on in his class.
Keister is one of the most boring professors you could have at UB. His lectures are the worst but powerpoints are online. The test averages were around 60 but you can easily get an 80 if you READ THE TEXTBOOK. The exams are basically the same as the practice exams which helps a bit. Overall, chemistry sucks and Keister makes it worse
Probably the most boring professor. Lectures are long and very boring. Just read the textbook and you'll pass the exams and class easy. Practice exams are basically the exact same as the exams. Overall a terrible professor, but a passable class if you teach yourself.
Just read the lectures online and the textbook if your still confused. Attendance is not required, he just goes over the slides and might do a practice problem. Exams are super tough and you can lose points for anything. Week online homework is also assigned.
Follow the syllabus, practice previous exams, do the homework and read the textbook. That is all you can do for this class. The professor is hopeless. After skipping lectures I started to do better by learning from the textbook myself. Overall, choose someone else if you can. You will not gain anything from this class.
This class was ridiculously easy. Even if you didn't understand the lecture, all you had to do was do the homework and actually try to understand it. ALL of his tests use the same questions as previous exams so even understanding concepts wasn't really a big deal. You only need like a 79 for an A
He cares about all students, seeking ways to improve quality of instructions for the benefit of all.
Dr. Keister really guided me through college and helped me throughout my four years in college. while taking this class and performing undergraduate research for him I really came into my own a chemistry student. If you have the chance I would highly recommend this professor
His lectures are boring but informational. However if you stay home and read the textbook you can easily pass the class. Just do the labs and hw, make sure you understand when doing it. His tests are basically the same from previous years and he posts them up for u. Can get a A with effort. Not an easy A unless u took ap Chem
i really liked keister. he's a nice man. his slides were a bit hard to understand at times, but he explains it well in lecture if you go. he always asks if there are any questions before he moves on. he's always there if you need help and really knows his stuff! would definitely recommend
this was the worst professor in my freshman year. lecture were impossible to sit through. Stopped going to lecture and learned more without him teaching.
Love this class! I used to have to spend so much money on sleeping pills but now i dont have to with this class! UB must know how much sleep us student need so they throw in a nice hour long nap period! LOVE IT
great guy
Keister's a good guy. I agree that his lectures are usually very boring and it's hard to pay attention. However, the material is not that hard and he posts his slides online. He also posts his exams from the previous year online, and you can expect similar questions so it's not hard to study and it's clear cut whats gonna be on the exam.
Useless professor. Nearly ruined my freshman yr. Lectures impossible to sit through. Explains nothing, just reads off of his slides. Only reason to go to lecture is to realize the existence of maybe 1/2 the material. Fan of reading textbooks? Apparently it's pretty good for this class. Taught myself front to back from Mastering. Good luck engineers
Keister can be helpful if you ask questions.
Overall, Keister is not as bad as he is made out to be. Although his lectures are quite boring, at least to me, he means well and does try to explain what he is teaching. I found I learned more from my TA in recitation as he had different ways of teaching the same material. Tests are based off practice tests so if you do them, you are fine.
The lectures are unnecessary to attend & very dry. Otherwise, Keister is a decent professor. Exams are just like the practice exams, and he posts his notes online. Pay attention to the homework--it takes a long time and is usually much harder than anything you'll see on an exam, but it teaches better than lecture for a lot of important concepts.
Dr. J definitely knows his chemistry. Unfortunately, 90% of the class doesn't know that because they can't hear him because they're either not there or beyond the second row of the room. If you have a decent or better TA, you should be good for this class. Homework can get tedious, but there's a ton of material to study for the tests. Overall 7/10.
Dr. Keister clearly knows what he's talking about but when it comes to him conveying it to students, not so much. Lectures are one long monotone ramble. You need read the text book in order to pass, because every time you ask him for help all he says is "well that's easy you should know that". Not really a bad person, just an awful professor.
Keister was pretty rough. The lectures are absolutely awful and I stopped going. But it was a pretty bad class, make sure you get all your lab reports done perfectly they are worth alot. For tests just make sure you have the old ones he posts online down completely, they are the same questions every year. Email your TA for even more tests .
His class was not hard and I would never show up for his lectures toward midway into the semester. If you do the practice problems there should be no reason for you to fail his exams because they are very identical. I never cracked open my textbook, all you need is the code for Mastering Chemistry.
His lectures are long and boring but he covers everything that will be on the exams. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS. They are very similar to the actual exam and if you do them you more than likely will get a good grade on the exams. The homework is easy but tedious. Overall he is a decent professor.
The guy has boring lectures but I had him for Chem 107 and his class wasn't hard---it is obvious he is overqualified for teaching freshmen. I stopped going to class and did better on the exams for some reason.
This guy thinks he's a nascar driver he blows right through his slides...
He is a real teacher. He knows how to convey information. His ppts have good information on them & pictures. They follow the txtbk so if you don't understand something it's easy to read about it. Tests are fair, but heavily influence grade. Homework is on Mastering Chemistry online, a really good site. Just an overall fair and good class.
It's hard to concentrate in lecture. I found that reading the textbook and making my own notes was beneficial. He's a smart guy and provides a lot of resources, as well as practice exams. Despite lectures not helping with material, he does let you know what you need to know for the exam. I thought I would fail, but did great on the first exam.
Dr. Keister is clearly overqualified to instruct this class but gives excellent presentations and explanations of the material. Provides practice exams and quizzes on UBLearns as well. His lectures are not the most exciting, but he gives good explanations nonetheless.
Spitting facts like no tomorrow.
Keister was hands down the worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't talk loud enough in lecture. Honestly he mumbles sometime, so basically no one can hear what he says. Tests essentially make or break your grade. Test questions are very meticulous at times. I never missed a class and read the textbook for every chapter, very difficult course.
If you took AP Chem in high school, this class won't be that hard. Lectures are extremely boring, and aren't that important to attend. Mastering Chemistry homework assignments are tedious, but if you take the time to actually do them, then the course will be a whole lot easier. Exams count for 2/3 of the overall grade in the class.
I had a really difficult time following him and it led to me not wanting to go to class. Instead, I read the textbook and studied old tests. If you can, get old tests from years past and you will do just fine in the course. Every engineer has to take Keister unless theyre in Honors Chem
His lectures are incredibly dry but he goes over practice exam questions which are just like the actual exam. DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS. They are just like the actual exams.
His issue is that he is just too experienced to be teaching undergrads. He does very little examples in class, reads right from his slides, and teaches material you don't need. Very little partial credit, TAs don't help, and a lot of homework. Unless you have a mind for chem, the exams are very difficult and require endless studying. Avoid him!
He's one of the best professors in the chemistry department, however, I found this class a bit challenging.
It is completely possible to get an A in this class. I did, but you can't get one from the resources he provides alone KhanAcademy saved my grade. His lectures were sometimes difficult to understand, and he didn't explain points well. He seems over-qualified to teach intro chem, and seemed miserable about teaching. Grading is very clear though.
Overall pretty average. Class is boring he is pretty monotone and just teaches of slides. Homework is very useful for learning the course. Can do well without going to class. Tests are pretty straight forward 2 tests and a final make up 2/3's of your grade
Very caring. He makes his practice tests available online and even has his TAs go over them. I had to chose this course or biology and I chose this course because of Dr. Keistet.
Tough to sit through lectures without dozing off. Only reads through his slides - rarely does practice problems.
He is very monotone during lecture
He doesn't cover material well
he gives useless information in lectures and often goes "you wont need to remember this," can be confusing in lectures if you're not 100% tuned in.
Study hard! (And then keep studying). This class is a challenge but manageable.
I had Keister my freshman year. He's smart, but that doesn't mean he's a good prof. Very monotone, talks to the board & quietly so you can't hear what he's saying. Lectures don't help, best way to study is through HW and his old exams, which contain Q's on the actual exams. Be prepared to teach yourself just about everything.
Super montone prof but if you can stay awake is a not bad teacher. He posts practice tests that are nearly identical to the one that you will take. Reading the textbook is really only for super overachievers and is not necassary for this class.
Very knowledgeable, and passionate about his class. Online homework can be challenging. Lectures may be boring, and can be missed if the power point is read. Exams are nothing too difficult. The class is very well oriented and correctly organized for engineering majors. There is a large curve at the end of the class.
He's very monotone and very hard to hear at times, especially if others are talking. When you can hear him he explains concepts very well and has a lot of passion for Chemistry. Get your hands on as many practice exams as possible. The homework is harder than the exams. He often uses the same questions. Large curve, the average score gets a B-
Keister is a boring teacher. He just reads off the power point slides so I had a hard time focusing on what he said during the hour and 20 minute lectures. The tests for me weren't that bad, but my peers found them to be hard. I usually read the textbook and I stopped going to lecture halfway through the semester. Labs are a bit tough so prepare.
CHEM 107 was very hard for me to hear him and understand being in NSC225 didnt help either. i spent most of my time with my Ta learning what we did in lecture
Does not elaborate upon the slides he shows, First question on the first exam was not taught to us, whispers sweet nothings to a class of 300 students, absolutely brutal overall
He's really monotone and he only reads off the slides. However, he didn't do attendance codes for my class so I just followed along on tophat in my dorm. At a certain point, even tophat seemed unnecessary so I just stopped doing that altogether.
This was one of the worst professors that I ever had. I would never recommend any of his classes to anyone. To be a bit more specific the lectures were given at a level of understanding that any intro chem student would not be able to understand. If you went to his office hours for help he would just sit there on his computer. AVIOD AT ALL COST!
You can't hear him at all and I sat in the front row. Going to lecture became pointless halfway through the semester. His exams were kinda hard, study at least 20 hours for each exam. In class, he never really explained beyond the powerpoint. He's also not understanding when you ask a question. I would take his class if he was the ONLY professor.
Exam averages were a 40 and a 20 on the two exams. The fact that the averages were that low speaks to itself. I sat in the front row and couldn't hear a thing, and studied like crazy for the exams and did horribly. The only saving grace was that he let us replace Exam 2 with our final because the average was so bad. Take Chem 102 instead!
No matter where you sit, hes still so hard to hear. The class is solely based on the exams, with the exception of doing good in lab and mastering chemistry assignments. Halfway through I realized only the top hat questions were necessary in class, cause he'd read off the slides, (presentations were available on ublearns).
The tests are very frustrating because they are mainly multiple choice. The issue with that is they are very involved and even if you get most of the work correct, but make a small error, you will get 0/5 of those points (where a short answer would give you partial credit). 4 small errors that would translate to a 96 instead are an 80. Mumbler too.
OH NO his lecture is not even my first one for the day and I still can NOT stay awake. His voice is just so monotone and all the things he says are on the powerpoints which you can find on UBLearns. The homework is harder than the examples he goes over, and you actually may need to teach yourself whatever is going on to pass. RED FLAG! AVOID!
Had him for both chem 1 and 2. Classes drag on, he's very knowledgeable and cares for his students though. Class is graded on class percentile, exams aren't easy but very doable. Need to study, textbook use is helpful.
I don't have any idea why I bother going to class. It is impossible to hear him and even when I try to pay attention, all he does is read off the slides and do unneccessarily hard examples that we don't need. Mastering chemistry sucks and the tests and quizzes are impossible. He's a horrible teacher, avoid at all costs.
I cannot think of a more boring way to start my mornings than Keister's lectures. Half the students don't show up after a few weeks. If you sit close you have a chance at understanding what's going on, but that's unlikely. The tests are extremely difficult, but the class has a huge curve. Try to take a different version of this class if possible.
Dr Keister really cares about chemistry and his work, but his lectures are awful. You sit in a lecture hall where he whispers into the microphone and reads slides which you can just look at online. Lab grades made me consistently feel as if I was being cheated, and tests are all multiple choice, which is both a blessing and a curse to many.
Keister is a solid choice for Chemistry. Bad rater dont show up in class. He gives a good lecture, and nowadays he allows us to use notes on the exam. But you have to do work if you want to do well on class. The downside is he is monotoned and dont speak clearly on mic.
Didn't learn a thing in this class
Lectures are generally verbatim from posted lecture slides. Very knowledgeable man but boring class. Take advantage of practice tests and make sure you fully understand them and the HW. Reference textbook if confused and/or ask for help. Tests are tough so really study. Class is pretty heavily curved (high C would prob be an A).
Lectures are extremely boring. Much like CHE107, at least 30% of the class stops showing up after 3 weeks. Honestly not a terribly difficult class if you read the book/slides and understand the posted practice tests. Don't expect this class to consistently tie in applications to engineering.
He only holds class once a week to go over questions (ones that won't show up on exams because they're too easy). Exams roll around and make everyone feel worthless because average is in the 50s. He has us watch another prof's lectures instead of teaching himself (lazy). TLDR: Hard exams, material is hardly covered, and barely holds class.
DO NOT TAKE CHEM 107 WITH THIS PROFESSOR!! I promise you, my dear friend, you will be disappointed throughout the whole semester. Lectures dont explain anything. Questions on tests and quizzes does not make sense a bit. Homework is due every week (followed by quiz on a Saturday over breaks). If you do take this class, BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!
He seemed helpful to other stupids but we only met Thursdays and he just answered questions. The lectures posted on tuesday werent even his, they were his coworkers.
The lectures do not explain anything, exams are extremely hard. The questions make absolutely no sense. I have had 2 chem majors try to help me out with his questions and even THEY cannot figure anything out. If you take this class, good luck. You need it...
Hank Green was pretty much my professor for this class. The lectures were unhelpful and did not assist the homework in anyway. The tests and quizzes were impossible to pass no matter how much time you put in to study. My friend is a chem major and he even had extreme difficulty answering the questions. They made this class so hard for reason.
Its awful when taking this class in COVID-19 pandemics!
This class was a nightmare, the lectures were not helpful, nor was the professor. The material covers basics of what is on the test and quizzes but the questions on the exams are much harder than anything in homework or lectures. People say memorize the textbook and youll be fine but I have other classes. I cant memorize the book. It was hell.
All remote class so as long as you watch the lectures and understand them and the homework, the class is a little above average difficulty. Tests are very similar to previous years and if you put in time to study them, you will pass.
Lectures are boring but helps to go because he may help with homework. You can learn from the book and hints on the homework just as much. Quizzes are usually harder than exams because they are super short so if you get one question wrong it can be like a 75. Practice old exams! They're usually super similar. Doable class, approachable teacher
Given the pandemic, the class was remote. Class was honestly boring. His lectures were just slides with paragraphs on them, and I couldn't even follow what he was talking about. Ended up watching another professor's lectures the rest of the semester.
Forget it if you need to reschedule a time to take a quiz. I've had to pull over on the side of a highway to take a quiz because I got stuck traveling at the given time.. Realized halfway through how dangerous it was and had to just take the 0. He is very "the syllabus says" and has no interest actually helping students. No leniency during Covid.
lectures are confusing and you can barely hear him. mostly reads off his slides and doesnt really add on to them. Even during class time its hard to understand him. Memorize the textbook and get a study group if you want to tackle this class.
Professor Keister is not great when it comes to teaching. He is often unintelligible and it is difficult to keep focused in his class.
