Licini is a cool guy... but kind of boring in class. He teaches well.

Boring class but overall pretty easy
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Very well organized class. A lot of work but not too hard to get an A after doing homework.
pretty monotnous but not a bad professor, lots of homework
looks and sounds like kermit the frog
zzzzzzzzzz,exam1,zzzzzzzzzzz,exam2,zzzzzzzzz,final=A
for the most part not too bad
his pants come up too his chest. he's actually not so bad, pretty clear if you have a good attention span.
Licini is a really smart guy that knows his stuff, but he is incredibly boring. He tries hard to reach out to the students with extra study sessions every Friday. Overall a good guy, just extremely boring.
He's a giant with long arms and a small head. Pretty dry sense of humour but teaches the material well enough. Pay attention to the reviews before exams and pratice old exam problems, they are always pretty close to the given exam.
I will admit that the lectures can get boring, but every so often there is a cool demonstration. He knows the material very well, and will help you out. Good overall.

Licini has this method of teaching that is quite unique. He blames his ill-coordination on Monday every week, even when its not monday. This dude has some crazy degree from MIT, and he lurches around LL270 like Icabod Craine. Lecture is always a laugh
His class is enjoyable, and he really tries to help guide students through every step of learning something. A fairly hardworking high school kid would probably ace this class with Licini's ability to make everything understandable. DEMONSTRATIONS!!! =d
He's a decent teacher...but sometimes it seems like he really doesn't care about teaching.
Good teacher
Good professor. A little boring, but not bad. Knows how to convey the material, and the demonstrations are helpful. Exams aren't too hard if you understand what is going on.
Sure he knows he stuff, problem is doesn't really seem like he cares, lectures are boring, i find my amusement watching his dad with the attendance sheet walk around, try and copy down the examples though, and the review stuff before exams are critical
Very Boring, I fall asleep during every lecture but he knows his stuff
zzzz... wait? huh? oh yeah... um licini is boooorrrriiinnggg... cant help but fall asleep. seems like i nice guy who knows his stuff and does relatively interesting demonstrations, but his monotone voice and the who boringness of physics is a kill
Very monotonous. He knows his stuff, but likes to hear himself talk. Go to your TA's review classes before exams. Licini is sketchy about exams... he might tell you to study something that won't exactly be on the test.
Lectures are very boring, and tests are extremely hard.
Try to find away around attending lectures, they are boring and most the material ya can figure out from your TA's or the homework solutions no need to really pay attention
This guy is horrible. His tests are very hard, so be prepared for it. He will not curve it either. My class avg was 60.
Actually, he does curve it - at the end. He curves to a B+(which isn't bad at all). If you go to lecture and actually listen, you can learn a lot. Overall, an enjoyable class, for physics anyways.
hes the only man who could make a funny comic not funny. he sounds like kermit the frog on vallium.
Good teacher, if you stay awake. Is very monotone and low, but as long as you pay attention and go to recitation you'll do fine. Tests are a pain and you have to show ALL your work to get the question right.
Great teacher. Show up to lecture and you will do well with him as a professor. A litte monotone but thats easy to get past.
Licini caters to those who have already taken physics in high school. Having not taken physics in high school, I found it difficult to understand and had to catch up a lot. Guy seems to know his stuff and the demonstrations are nifty. Class would be a lot better if he put up some notes on blackboard. My TA helped me more than Licini did.
I slept through most of his lectures, but I lucked out with TA: our exam averages were about 15% higher than class. Larry, THANK YOU!! Licini's incredibly funny and I do agree with him about Mondays - they do suck. Overall a pretty easy and decent course - if you think it's hard, maybe you should drop engineering...
boring lectures. he writes a lot in class, but notes do not help for homework. bad jokes.
Licini is tall. He walks around campus like a beanstalk. And his voice can drive you crazy. He's hard too, but it was all a repeat of high school for me. This semester he tricked everybody by not taking attendance until everybody had stopped attending his lecture. Apparently I came too late to have meet his dad, although his son comes on snow days.
This is my first year taking physics and I decently understand the material.
Seems like a nice guy. Lectures are boring. Prepare to fall asleep. His voice sounds like Kermit the Frog. He is very tall and wears his pants up to his chest. He has decent demonstrations in class though.
Dear sweet merciful God, is he boring... good guy, but completely unenthusiastic... aside from his monotone, amusing guy, very dry humor. Walks around Oberkotter with his pants to his nipples. and rofl, I thought I was the only one that thought he sounded like Kermit =D. Tests are pretty hard. Has awesome demonstrations of concepts in class.
He sounds and looks a lot like Kermit the frog so it becomes hard to stay focused and not just fall asleep because he is very monotone. His handouts are great and he really knows the subject well he just isn't a very interesting person to listen to. But his demonstrations are cool,
uses a mic
I was optimistic about taking physics in college and was ready until I meet Licini. I've been more entertained by funerals than by this mans lectures. They are horrendous, long and absolutly pointless. If you don't fall asleep it is a miracle. If there is anything you can do to avoid this class do it!!!
He puts EVERYONE to sleep. Its great if you need a nap.
Actually one of my better teachers this semester, the class is actually not as hard as people make it out to be. It is sometimes quite hard to stay awake in class..
Good teacher but by giving us lecture notes that he just reads lecture is a waste of time. He doesn't move fast in class so you fall asleep unless he whips out a blow torch for a suprise demo. Clicker quizzes are few and far between. The class isn't terribly challenging but requires studying and doing the hw.
Licini is definitely a very intelligent man; however, his voice is incredibly boring. He hands out notes at the beginning of each class but it doesn't help much. The notes are derived on the textbook but the test and quizzes are based on the overall knowledge of physics. Those who did well were those who already took physics previously. GOOD LUCK
If you have not taken physics before he might be moving fast but otherwise the course is not too challanging. People might fall asleep in class but his demonstrations are really cool. If you understand the material and do the homework problems, you will do fine on the exams.
Absolutely sounds like Kermit. I learned everything from doing homeworks. Demos are cool. If you can stay focused on what he's saying lectures are helpful, but it's wicked hard to pay attention. Lecture notes can be helpful on homeworks, they have most equations on them.
I have never taken Physics before college, but Licini has helped a lot. He takes the time to hold an extra help session every week for an hour where he'll do an overview of new concepts, help set up homework problems, or anything else; he really wants you to be successful and if you put the work in you will be.
Worst class I've ever taken, waste of time, worst science/engineering professor I've ever had, completely turned me off from physics. His examples in lecture are cool sometimes, they'd be cooler if they malfunctioned.
Awesome professor! I had never taken a physics course prior to college and I was concerned I would be behind because of that, but Prof. Licini is talented at making everything seem easy. I wish he taught PHY021 as well...
Unfortunately he is the only physics teacher available to freshmen. I only did well because I had a good physics teacher in high school. EXTREMELY boring and just a pretty awful and uninteresting teacher in general. Literally over half of the class sleeps during lectures...
Read the text book before attempting the online homework, what he covers in class will not necessarily prepare you for it. It is not hard to fall asleep in class, and not hard to catch up if you do. The demos are great- stay awake for them.
he is SO boring during lectures. practice exams do NOT reflect at all on the ACTUAL exam. VERY HARD for people who have no prior physics experience. a lot of work, quizzes every week, class sucks. very hard to do well in the course
There are a lot of people who don't like Licini because of his voice, or his pants. However, he's a decent professor who wants his students to do good in the course. Lectures do run a little dry, but if you manage to pay attention (which you should, if you call yourself a good college student), then you will understand more. Tests are fair.
Good professor who knows his stuff. Lectures are rather boring but he cares and wants his students to do well. Recitations are very helpful. Attendance is not mandatory at lecture but there are occasional clicker quizzes (and you should go anyway). Exams are fair.
Lecture terribly boring. Had a terrible recitation instructor.
Like my friend said: looks like Bill Gates and sounds like Kermit the Frog. Lectures are boring and more of a quick overview of the subject rather than him teaching. Read the book, and pay attention in recitation. His office hours are useful, especially before midterms and exams, but you need to actually know the material to do well on the tests.
When I first heard him speak, I was expecting Kermit the frog to pop out from somewhere. Dr. Licini is so-so. He's a nice guy, but his lectures are so painstakingly boring that I can't pay attention, so I learn a lot more from recitation and the book than I do from lecture. Tests are pretty straightforward, though.
Professor Licini is a good professor. He tries hard to make you understand the concepts and has helpful and amusing visual aids. Yes, he is a little tough to listen to sometimes but he knows the subject and if you listen in lecture, you will too. Will go out of his way to help you at any time.
Licini's class was pretty boring. Usually his voice lulled me to sleep within the first 10 min, but it is possible (and beneficial) to stay awake. He knows the material well and has some interesting demos; I also heard the Friday workshops are helpful. Make sure you get the lecture notes at the start of class, they give a good outline of the chap
Boring, lecture sheets are overwhelming. I probably would have done well even if I didn't go to class, for my friends and I called the class "physics nap time." However, he's extremely fair and is always available for extra help.
He's a decent professor, but really the TAs are your biggest resource.
I had him twice; he may be monotone and very boring, but is very helpful and understanding of things that may come up. Definitely realizes that physics isn't for everyone and is lenient with grading. Take him over other physics professors!
Somewhat boring and monotone, but still a good, real easy class and he curves a ton, he sets the average grade as a B+!
Definitely very underrated. He curves the class average to be a B+ how awesome is that? Also he provides a summary handout of the lecture which is pretty useful. Has great office hours and useful TA's. He does throw some curveballs on exams however
Excellent professor.I never took physics before college, and got a B-. People criticize his practice of handing out the same notes he lectures from, but I found it handy to not have to split attention between writing and listening. Great demos, clear explanations, extraordinarily helpful to talk to inside and out of class!
Excellent professor! I struggled a lot in this class but he was a great help, whenever I had questions he clarified everything. Made me want to go to physics even though it was a challenge for me!
Professor Licini's notes and semi-slow style of teaching were helpful to learn the basics of the content. Attending recitation and reviewing on your own with the book is a necessity though to understand the homework and to become adept at the material. Exams were pretty difficult but I got A's because I studied for a LONG time with the textbook.
Very good teacher who knows his subject well. You will need to supplement lecture notes with textbook reading for most of the units, however it is not that hard to keep up with the coursework.
If you want to LEARN Physics, he wont teach you anything. When I had him years ago, all problems he did using numbers. Physics is about manipulating VARIABLES not numbers. Numbers are for computers to compute. Don't let him kill your passion for physics. Watch lectures from Walter Lewin from MIT - the best physics professor ever (google him).
Professor Licini explains physics very thoroughly, which can be boring if you know the topics but very useful if you're unfamiliar. Be aware that he doesn't write on the blackboard but uses pre-printed note sheets and overhead projectors. Also, he sometimes brings interesting demonstrations to lectures.
Licini knows what he's doing. Been doing this for a while, so can relate to students even in a big lecture hall. Well organized class, assignments fair and helpful, lectures clear with pre-prepared notes and many demonstrations. No complaints for an important intro class
Learned more in two lectures with Licini than in two years with my high school calculus teacher.
Took physics in high school so I didn't have much trouble, but I still think the class wouldn't have been too bad if I hadn't. The class is curved to a B+ and he also prints out notes for every lecture.
Took for Physics 1 and 2, enjoyed him for both. His lectures aren't the most exciting but they're important and packed with info. Gives pretty good examples of material and exams are fair. Posts notes on CourseSite and good with communications. Homework due every lecture but it's the best way to learn it. Can't go wrong with Licini.
Physics 2 is a naturally difficult course to conceptually understand. He does his best and is available basically whenever you want him to be. He curves the class to a B+ so just show up so you understand whats going on a little and you'll be fine.
Physics 21 is a very difficult course but Licini does an excellent job of explaining everything. Going to class is very helpful. He posts notes online but they can be hard to read and don't mean as much without going to class. He curves to a B+ so he wants everyone to succeed.
Licini takes a notoriously hard class and makes it fun to learn. He's enthusiastic about teaching and makes sure to logically explain how things work. If you're confused, ask for help; he's very patient with confused students. If you're a visual learner, he even puts the effort to do demos in class to see the physics at work.
Took him for phys 11 in the fall fresh year. one of the best professors yet I've had. I took physics in high school, so not much background. Did OK on the exams and still got a good grade. He definitely curves the class, so don't worry. Recitations are very helpful, attendance is taken, and pop quizzes given. You have to have in homework in lecture
I came in having already taken a Physics I at another university over a summer, but was really weak on the concepts, and Licini's class helped me understand the concepts a lot better. There's homework every lecture, but only a few problems and they all apply the concepts well. His grading system is great and he really wants you to do well.
Licini is the BEST Physics teacher I've ever had in my life. He explain things so well during lectures and he will give every one different study strategy suggestions if you approach him during office hours, which works perfect for me. He is THE BEST. Definitely choose him for either PHY 11 or 21.
I had Licini for both Physics 11 and 21. The classes are really really hard but the curve makes it okay. I got a 55 on my exam and it curved to a B- I really do learn a lot in the class but the information is just hard by nature. Must take Licini!
It is a difficult class, but he is a great professor that will really do his best to help you learn the material. He tries to keep things interesting with various experiments throughout the year. Also there is a massive curve so don't drop out if you think you are doing poorly
Great Physics 2 Professor. Keeps the problems simple and nothing is unneccesarily hard (because the course is hard enough to begin with). Great curve in the class.
If you have any physics background at all, Phy 011 with Licini is a walk in the park. Homework grading is mostly participation and online work is a joke. Tests can be a tad challenging if you don't prepare. Be careful at the end of semester, a lot of difficult material is covered in a short time, stay on top of it or your grade can slip.
Hard class but Licnini makes the grading procedures easy enough for the class to pass.(the curve saves lives)
In the beginning, it is extremely slow and easy especially if you have taken physics before, but the class ramps up after the first midterm. He gives out lecture notes at the beginning of class which makes it easy to drop off the homework, grab the notes, and leave. Homework isn't too bad.
The least accessible professor ever. He has zero office hours, refuses to tell students when the TAs have office hours, and leaves crucial information off the syllabus. His lectures are also nearly incomprehensible as he doesn't go any examples.
thorough lectures, lots of mastering physics example problems/ chances for extra credit, and practice material for exams in the class. Makes difficult concepts easy to grasp.
A great professor! I think the best way to know about it is to take the class. He does Physics Education Research and hence knows lots of ways to help out students understand topics. Prepares notes and you get the notes printed in the class. Really recommend taking the class
Was really nice! recommend taking it
the man. had him for physics 1 and 2. if you have to take physics, make sure you take it with him. every upperclassmen will tell you the same thing.
Online classes are absolutely useless, he does no lectures and just gives quizzes every class. Class is entirely self-taught, what a waste of money.
I'm pretty sure Licini is the only professor for PHY011 & PHY021 at the moment, so there is no use to recommend a different professor. Lectures and recitations are useless. Sign up for weekly tutoring and watch crash course physics; you have to teach yourself everything. The curve is huge though. Good luck.
Had him for PHY 011 & 021. He only talks about concepts in lectures so they don't really teach you what you need to know for the tests. But if you go to office hours and ask him how to solve different types of problems, he will show you and make it seem very easy. Just know when to use all the formulas and you can get an easy A.
This professor is terrible at explaining the subject. I stopped going to lectures after the first week because he just confused me. Do the homework and watch other videos on the subject and you will learn much more about physics. He makes the class way too complicated when in reality it's not that bad.
Licini is a great guy, and his lectures give you the basis of what you need to know for homework and exams. Homework is usually only 4-6 questions, so it doesn't prepare you much for the exams. Prepare to get really low exam scores that will become a B or C because he has a wicked good curve.
He is definitely the best physics teacher/professor I have ever had. You can tell he really cares about what he does and wants you to pass. Even if you do not do well on an exam, every exam is curved so the average is a B+
Physics is my least favorite subject but my favorite class to go to.
I loved Prof Licini. I thought he was a very effective communicator and a lot of his demonstrations were interesting. The lectures and recitations are essential to know whats going on, unless you want to comb through the textbook by yourself. The curve in this class is insane so as long as you do all the work you should be fine.
This guy sucks. He sounds like Kermit the frog and completely overcomplicates subjects. This class should not be as hard as it is.
Boring class but very generous curve- 6.5/10 would maybe recommend
The best thing about Licini is his curve. The average is automatically curved to a B+ to all of his exams which makes the whole class pretty easy. The average was so low for Exam 2, that the 68 that I got was curved to an A-. He also acts like he is famous and always talks about how he was on the local news one time. Kind of a diva but solid prof.
Took Physics 11 from Prof. Licini too. He was amazing at explaining and conveying the concepts even when I fell asleep (because of his monotone). However, I'm not sure if it's because Physics 21 is much harder, the contents just don't really get across me the same anymore. I would rely on the recitation instructors to build the concepts.
The best professor for PHY. He curves everything!!!!! Its hard to do bad in his class; as long as your grades align with the class average, you are chilling. Yes, his lectures arent the best, but thats every other class with 70+ students. As long as you are putting effort for the content of the class and keeping up with the class, you are good
Lectures are extremely theory heavy, while homework and tests are purely calculations. If you get a good recitation instructor you'll be fine, especially because he curves the class by something near 20 points. All you have to do is be better than average and you get an B+, if you really try an A isnt unattainable. Keep in mind Ph21 is really hard.
The nature of the E&M is difficult especially if it doesn't relate to your major. A very generous curve is applied and just be sure to do average or better to get >B+. Hope for a good recitation instructor and be sure to keep as many diagrams and formulas on your notes page for the exams. Kind and reasonable person and fairly good lecturer.
The biggest curver at lehigh. I honestly feel like you have to be actively trying to get anything below a B in this class. The average curve is a B+ then he adds on "forgiveness points" that effectively boost to an A-, so if you even get 5+ above the average on every test and get a good score on the homeworks, you get an A
Great curver. Horrible lecturer. He goes too fast in 50 minutes and expects everyone to be as smart as him. No. That's not how it works. He makes everything so confusing, but he does make up for it by curving.
Physics 011 is a super easy class if you make sure to go to the lectures and turn in the homeworks. That is really all you need to do to do well. He's very easy to understand in lectures and will break things down even simpler if you have a question. Overall a good class to take!
Huge curve - if you pay attention and do some work outside of homework you can easily get a B+ if not A-
Great lectures, allows a cheat sheet on tests
While professor Licini was great for physics 11, he was not so great for physics 21. He would mis-speak and say formulas wrong, and he would only go over the most essential formulas for the entire course of the class once for like 30 seconds. HE NEVER DID A SINGLE PRACTICE PROBLEM ALL YEAR! He simply doesn't teach you what he expects you to know.
Good lectures from him. The cheat sheet was a massive help. Do yourself a favor and go to the after class problem solving sessions they will save your grade in this class.
Lectures are pretty average, post-class extra sessions actually can be helpful. Curve is absolutely insane though, I'm so glad people told me to take Phys21 in the spring so I could have him. Exams are individually curved, you get a full one-sided cheat sheet of any personal notes you want, and I think the class overall might have been curved too.
Not bad
He is simply the greatest to ever do it. Him and "university physics with modern physics 15th edition" are Shaq and Kobe. Even your kid brother or sister would love him.
His lectures barely helped at all. He does not explain things super well and most of what I learned was from my TA during recitation. The only reason I think he's good is because he lets us have a sheet of notes on exams and the final exam isn't cumulative which is really nice. Just do the HW and go to recitation/TA office hours and you'll be fine.
Long lectures which weren't all that helpful (just read the book). Tests were hard but he curves A LOT!!
He talks alot to fill the time. Adds a lot of words to overcomplicate the topics that he goes over. The lecture handouts are essential and helped me a lot with homework and just going over the information for that lecture. The curve on exams and final grades is huge, and helps a lot of people. You also get a one-sided cheat-sheet for each exam.
A tough but great professor! His lectures are engaging and understandable. The homework assignments are frequent but not too difficult, and they are graded on completion. Provides opportunities for makeup exams if under a certain margin, which can significantly help your GPA. Overall an amazing guy and a great lecturer.
Doesn't properly teach course content.
I thought the lectures were useless, since I didn't learn anything from them. There is hw twice a week which helps you understand the subject. Recitation was helpful since they go over the hw problems and anser any questions you have. BIG BIG curve on the tests so as long as you get near the class average you get B+.
Lectures are mostly useless but are recorded which is good for the 5 minutes of important information that is scattered throughout each one. Curve is large. Exams are pretty hard but partial credit is generous. Licini is very helpful when you ask him individual questions after class. Just an iconic guy, understand the homework and you'll be good.
Professor Licini was not the best at lecturing, he would show his notes on a screen for you to go over but it was difficult to understand concepts during lecture. I received an A on every exam before the curve, I recommend reading the textbook and matching the textbook topics to the lecture topics in class. It is an easy A if you study.
Lectures were horrible. I stopped going after the first one because they were so confusing. Just study outside of class and you'll be fine
Attendance is not mandatory for the lecture, but HW must be turned in manually, so showing up to lectures to turn in HW is a MUST. DO THE WORK! The work matters be ready to STUDY! His material is reasonable for the class. You definitely have to work for it. He is funny in lectures and likes to "yap," but HE CURVES exams. (STUDY FOR QUIZZES)
Professor Licini's lectures can be long, but the curve on exams and availability of a cheat sheet make this class manageable. For study prep, I found Unstuck ai and the textbook to be helpful alongside office hours.
Professor Licini is a pretty good professor but hard to engage with during lectures. PHY011 had a decent amount of homework and the tests were heavy. Crazy curve helps most people pass, so if you have the option to take PHY011 or PHY021 with him (usually in the spring), take it.
The lectures are so boring and confusing, but he's the better intro physics cuz of the curve. If you have a bad TA the class is insufferable since neither source of teaching is helpful. Just do the practice exams and try to become friends w someone who alr took the class to send past exams.
honestly lectures aren't much helpful, and if u have a bad TA ur basically screwed. insane amount of homework, and the tests are actually difficult, but they're curved. and he is better than the other teacher, so
Not hard as long as you pay attention during class. He takes notes during lectures and I think copying his notes is really helpful. Id also like highlight specific things you want to remember for exams so you can put them on your cheat sheet bc its literally a life saver and probably the only reason I did well.
i didn't find his lectures that helpful— the guided notes were and i copied down all of his notes which was good for studying, but he kind of just regurgitated the printouts. there are 4-5 hw problems due every class that take an hour and are very helpful for the test. exams are similar to hw and he curves the final to a B avg & it's not that hard
Sometimes I struggled to pay attention during lectures, but he does a lot of examples that help with the homework and demonstrations which help with the concepts. The homework helps a lot for the quizzes and exams. The exams are difficult but generally not unreasonable. Also, the whole class is curved to a B+, which helps a ton.
He was an okay professor. He spoke too much in class about theory, and it's up to the TAs to review examples with you. So, if you get a bad TA, you are cooked. Great curve though.
A lot of reading but honestly if you get a good ta or you're a good note taker you'll be fine. Never really paid attention to lectures and I was fine
Lectures were a sometimes hard to follow since the notes were pre-written and displayed on the screen -- not a lot of time to copy down so you either listen to what he's saying or focus on writing what's on the screen. Exams were on the difficult side but very generous with the curve so that you will be fine as long as you're near the average
His lectures are alright. Definitely will have to learn concepts on your own time if you want to really understand them. Best thing about this guy is the exam curve he gives.
Super adorable, DO THE HOMEWORK, and curve saves lives.
Jerome is a king take his class. also need to study a lot for tests and curve helps
I personally enjoyed the lectures, most didn't. He gives a worksheet before every lecture. Heavy curve on everything. Read the syllabus
Lectures weren't the most helpful so had to do lots of outside reading. Tests are hard but he curves well.
Tough lectures to sit through. Most of the material you'll have to teach yourself. He's a nice guy and curves well. He tries his best but physics is just a really hard topic and probably harder to teach.
