Easy class, Awesome lectures, and this guy has GREAT enthusiasm.
cuts students off sometimes because he's so excited to lecture.
great teacher. more enthusiasm about the church than anyone i have ever met before.
Great course! Great teacher! Easy, and you don't have to memorize anything, yet very spiritually edifying! A must for D&C requirement!
Great teacher! You can tell he is passionate about his lectures and the material he presents. Tests are open scriptures and now his tests are on blackboard. Lot'o'work but not hard. Will benefit you for years to come. Very spiritual class.
He is so passionate kind of a spazz. He judges unperfect Mormons a lot in class. Good guy. Good class. Needs to relax a little in class.
He is sooo nice, and he actually knows my name unlike some of the professors. I don't think I've ever met anyone so passionate about the gospel. Watch him while he's praying, he's fun to watch. Learned alot in this class.
Tests are wierd - his teaching comes across somewhat fake and insincere. I don't plan on taking any classes from him in the future nor would I recommend him to anyone else.
I don't know what some of these people are talking about. Brother Perkins is NOT insincere in his teaching--he's definitely one of the most sincere person I've ever met. And his class is not EASY. You think it is, until you take the first test! He's a great guy, though, and a great teacher.
I loved this class. Brother Perkins is very passionate about the gospel. I thought his tests were easy. He required us to keep journals of our readings, and sometimes those were a little tedious and laborious, but I think they were worth my while.
Yeah, he's easy but you can learn a lot more from professors that are just as easy, like Bott. His lectures are incoherent and a huge ramble. The tests can be tricky with 10 options for every question but you can petition every one you miss and he'll give it to you. Watch him during a prayer.
A really nice guy but his lectures are all over the place, don't always make sense and are not organized or easy to follow. I HATED the tests! On blackboard (nice) but really long with tons of options, many of which are based on his opinion. I would NOT take a class from him again, ever!
Very sincere professor who really cares about his message. Tests are all multiple choice and no studying at all will get you at least a B. They are all based on gospel principles, not memorizing dates and names which I really liked. Petitioning anything will get you the points for it.
Good guy,Terrible class. He is ridiculously redundant. Sounds like he takes the lords name in vain ALOT. Has a hard time being quiet so people can talk. Nasty 2 hour tests with pointless questions.
he is a realy nice guy, but bless his heart his class is really borring. I mean its an interesting topic but he is so redundant. I didnt feel like I learned 1 thing. I felt like I was in seminary not a byu religion course. It was a waste of time. I will retake the course from some one else.
I really enjoyed this class! It was very easy and very spiritually uplifting.
Awesome teacher. I was very suprised to see that some people gave him poor ratings. I don't think he "rambles". I thought he was very clear. I learned more in his class than any other religion class I've taken. Excellent teacher.
He is amazing! I loved this class!
He was amazing! The class wasn't too difficult, though some reading was required. Every lecture was very spiritual and uplifting. From my experience, I don't understand how anyone could have anything bad to say about this guy. He's sincere, passionate, entertaining, and spiritual.
He's really energetic and gets really into his discussions. I felt I learned a lot about church doctrine. His tests can be a little tricky, but if you study his power points before hand you should be fine.
The class was so easy it was difficult to care. Not only that, it was BORING BORING BORING. At least 10 people asleep in every class. He's a nice guy though. . . oh and every time someone would make some lame comment, he would tie it in to what he was trying to say, even though the remark had nothing to do with what he was saying. Forced enthusiasm
Not a hard class to get an A-, but hard to get an A, His test are really hard, they are those test, that even though you have open scriptures, there are 2 or 3 awnsers that seem right. Great guy, he made the time go fast, but I was not a fan of his tests.
Awesome teacher. If you want a class where you can sit down and relax -- take this one. Tests are easy if you take your time and study for them.
Great balance in a religion class between learning and spirituality. It changed the way I approach the Doctrine and Covenants. Great focus on the doctrine in each section.
He's a good teacher. Very passionate about Joseph Smith and the Gospel. Tests were tricky. You take them on blackboard, so it's kind of hard to focus(at least for me). I'm taking him again though. The spirit is strong in his class.
Very good teacher! I loved his class a lot. The tests were okay.. but if you study for them, you'd get an A. He is very passionate about teaching and I learned a LOT in this class!!! VERY recommended
Very insightful, hugely spiritual, had a way of teaching to each individual despite class size. Goes out of his way to try to get to know everyone. Study to do well, talk to him if you have questions.
I thought he was a great professor, but his tests didn't seem to match the way the class was done. I found them to be way too difficult for a GE class.
He was one of the best religion teachers I've had! He really cares about the students, and is very willing to give points on test questions that were confusing, if you petition him. He is very clear, uses great powerpoints, and brings a lot of new insights that I hadn't thought of. There is a little more work than usual, but he's awesome!
He is a great teacher and he really gets into his teaching. He always hopes that people participate in class. Anybody who reads and shows up to class can get an easy A. He really does care about the students too. He's a first class teacher.
The class-amazing. The teacher-amazing. Bro. Perkins only cared about our understanding what the Lord was trying to teach, as well as organizing the class in a manner that can focus on one's spiritual progression. No work besides studying and writing in your journal. Tests are simple and easy. I love what I took away from each lesson.
He REALLY knows what he is talking about! He is extremely enthusiastic and funny at times. He brings a lot of insight into the D&C, and makes it very interesting. He gets really into the lessons. His tests are online, and open-scripture-and he gives scripture references! I would take a class from him again in a heartbeat!
Brother Perkins is a great man, but his in-your-face evangelical style of teaching was not for me. I highly disliked it, and didn't like coming to class. He has an unhealthy fixation to exaltation--it's always a common thread in his lectures. The tests are written ridiculously at times, but at least you can petition and get your points.
Bro. Perkins loves the Lord, and you can tell in his lectures. He gets so excited about each of the sections, and ties it into ways that we can better ourselves. I love the man!! He tells just the right amount of stories. His tests are on Blackboard and can sometimes be confusing, but you get to use your scriptures so you always have a back up.
Best religion professor around. I tell everyone to take him. The tests aren't too hard and he is inspiring in every single lesson. You can tell that he listens closely to the Lord to know what to say.
I wouldn't call him in-your-face evangelical at all. He is a very spiritual person and all of his lessons are well-prepared. He's wondeful and turly cares for his students. Tests aren't hard, but do come to class.
hmm i got bored with the way he teaches-wasnt my type. i didnt get uplifted by him or anything. the tests suck...
On the first day of class, I thought I wasn't going to like Brother Perkins, as I didn't think his teaching style suited me. But I decided to give him a chance and found his class quite inspiring. He does emphasize exaltation in almost every lecture, but I see that as a strength--creating a powerful unity in the course. Very enthusiastic teacher.
Great Professor! He does everything he can to make sure people get the lecture. Brings the spirit to class. Definitely recommend to everyone! Very good at not only teaching the topic, but helping relate it to your life also. Tests are all right... write notes in your scriptures, cause you can use them on the tests (scriptures).
Go with the right attitude and you'll get SOOO much out of his class! Very insightful and in depth. Online tests, open scripture tests. will get you thinking. Highly recomended.
Great class. Great guy. Cares a lot. Visit him during his office hours and he'd love to talk with you and help. Be sure to study daily but you will learn IMMENSELY about the scriptures. WONDERFUL class and professor, just be dilligent in your study and you will pass his tests.
Truly amazing! Brother Perkins is theatrical and expressive- not a boring class. In an instant, he can bring a spirit that pierces your heart. He teaches the deeper meanings and core meat of the gospel- this is no "academic" course, nor is it simply a "feel good" spiritual class. No memorization, very fair, and truly growth promoting. Take him!
I was expecting not to like him because he tends to go with the more touchy-feely doctrine rather than hard doctrine or history. But he actually ended up doing a great job of balancing it all out. He is the nicest guy and will help you out if you're having trouble with the class.
A great guy and great teacher. The only problem was he didn't teach REL 325. He taught "Higher Church Doctrines 201." I learned a lot but nothing about D&C like I was hoping when I signed up for the class. If you are looking for a great spiritual guy take this class. If you are looking for education on D&C, take someone else.
My first impression of him was: whoa, he's intense. He is passionate about the scriptures and in gleaning from them the lessons the Lord is teaching us in this "tutorial of godhood."
He is a passionate teacher but very very boring. His tests are ridiculous and take 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours to take. Most of the questions on the test are not from what we talk about in class and contain very deep doctrine. I do not recommend him.
So here's the thing: if you go to class and do the reading, the tests aren't so bad. I was a bit wary of being in a class with 200 people, but he's one of the best religion teachers I've had. All exams and quizzes are online, wkly quizzes consist of "did you go to class?" etc. Two journal entries to turn in, threeish exams. I got a B+ easy.
He is the best religious teacher I've had in my life in the Church. He applies what we're learning to us; stressed students, recently returned missionaries, those dating or newlyweds, planning our future careers. It's wonderful. He bears his testimony throughout class, and really loves the Gospel. You can't help but catch his enthusiasm in class.
WOW! Could someone know more about the scriptures? probably. But, Pro. Perkins' class was insightful, well-prepared, and demonstrated a thorough knowledge of church history and the Doctrine and Covenants from both a sectarian and spiritual point of view. Definitely worth taking to fill your religious requirements.
He's a great guy--extremely enthusiastic about the Gospel. I thought he was slightly odd, but it was still a good class.
Professor Perkins is genuinely interested in his students. He likes his students to average a B, so you've got to work hard for an A.
this teacher is a superb teacher! I loved his stories, instead of being superfelous they really helped to illistrate his points. plus he has a great sense of humor!
The most spiritual religion class I have ever had! The test are all open book so just buy a D&C at the bookstore and write all your notes in it.Perkins allows you and wants you to do that. He also allows sticky notes in book you just have to promise to leave them in after the class is over. Test aren't hard if take good notes!
GREAT TEACHER. Very inspired, and truly wants the students to learn. Focuses on teaching by the Spirit and expects you to follow the honor code and be responsible. Great guy and you can really learn a lot. TAKE HIM, if you can.
I didn't think I was going to get much from this class, but I learned a lot. Bro. Perkins is pretty wordy and his slides can be overwhelming sometimes, but his teaching is meaningful. He requires that you read not only the assigned D&C sections, but also the student manual. Also has journals. Kind of like taking a religion class from a coach.
He has genuine interest in his students and is so nice. I enjoyed his class... it was pretty easy if you take good notes, but I still learned a lot. I would recommend him!
Bro Perkins is awesome! He teaches with passion and really gets the message across however his tests are hard and his class does require some effort and thought. Go to lecture! It will help!
I really liked Bro Perkins. The class was easy and the lectures were entertaining. The tests are cake if you have half a brain. Exactly what a religion class should be: spiritual and manageable. Sit back and enjoy lecture.
Jerome Perkins is a GREAT guy, incredibly nice, knows the doctrine and is seeping with enthusiasm. However, his tests are absolutely rediculous and his busy work is also.I'm a straight A Junior and his class is my only A- thanks to his 4 hr. tests. If you aren't shooting for an A, TAKE HIM...he's great! If you want a higher grade, choose someone else!
Fantastic class, super nice professor who truly cares about his students. Very understanding when students have issues. This professor cares about real learning of concepts rather than mindless memorization of facts.
Bro. Perkins is the nicest guy i've ever met. his tests are super long (2.5 hours average) and pretty difficult but he'll work with you if you think a question was bad. a lot of reading
Bro. Perkins is probably the best teacher that I have had. He cares for the students, that's his #1 priority. His curriculum is based off of what Prophets and Apostles have stressed. In his class I gained perspectives and insight to the purpose of my life that I never had before. It made me thirsty to become a better person. EXCELLENT teacher!
So Bro. Perkins is a nice guy, but I didn't care much for his teaching. I know everyone else sings his praises, but it didn't work for me. The class was easy, but I failed to feel the spirit and I felt like he went over alot of basic stuff I already knew. Three easy exams, journal entries and credit for reading assignments. Not my favorite class.
Bro Perkins is a great guy. i loved his class, and he really helped with religion. kept it simple but deep, he picked only a few things and tore those topics up. great teacher and amazing man highly recommend
Yes, you will take a class from Brother Perkins (because you will regret it if you don't). Although his best lectures were at the beginning of the semester, it's not like you'd ever want to skip his class. He's totally into the subject matter that he can hardly contain himself. It's totally contagious.
This class is so hard to follow. Class feels like a race to get through as much of the ppt as possible. Tests are ridiculously long and very confusing. They are open scripture tests.Luckily you can petition the test to get more points back, but my petition was lost and it is hard to get a response from Perkins and his TA when you need grade changes
Horribly written tests. Very wonderful class though. You can tell he really loves the gospel and he wants you to love it too.
I really like Brother Perkins, I'm taking him for the 2nd time. The class discussions are great, he gets so into it that it's easy to listen and enjoy. The tests are a little odd, the are regarded as "study sessions", and are a little time consuming. But, the class is not demanding, which is how religion classes should be! Perkins is a good egg.
Bro. Perkins is by far my favorite teacher at BYU. You can tell he really cares about what he's teaching. He helped me to learn about how to recieve personal revelation. Always left class wanting to be better. If you come to class prepared you'll leave with alot. Tests are a little tricky they're open scriptures but USE THE STUDY GUIDE HE PROVIDES!
Brother Perkins is a wonderful professor. His lectures are clear and all direct to the main theses of the D&C. He really does care about his students and the subject. The class is not terribly hard. There are 2 weekly reading assignments from the D&C and the study guide, and journal writing is required. keep up with that and you'll be fine.
This class is ridiculous. it really is a race everyday to get through the powerpoint. It seems like he is more interested in getting through the lesson than if his students are understanding. The tests are not good at all. Long and confusing. I did all the reading and attended class everyday and got worked on his tests. not an easy A or B
I loved this guy. He is SO into the D&C you can't help but pay attention. He is very respectful of his students, and genuinely interested in helping them do well. Weekly points are assigned for showing up to class, doing your reading, and writing personal responses. These points are given on your honor. Tests are open book.
Brother Perkins is an amazing teacher. You have to write in your journal and read pretty much every day. During class be prepared to take notes but tests are open scripture. This is really how a religion class should be. It's not difficult to get an A and he does a good job of filling you with the spirit. No papers or difficult tests.
Cannot recommend this class highly enough! Brother Perkins is so enthusiastic about D&C and makes class engaging and informative. Tests are open scripture and online, I've never enjoyed taking a test so much. Took both semesters from Brother Perkins and am sorry to be leaving. The main goal of his class is getting the student to love the gospel.
This was the best religion teacher and class i've ever had! I learned so much about the gospel, but more importantly I learned how to receive personal revelation and the mysteries of God. I felt the spirit strongly in each lesson, because he's willing to involve students. Read every day and you'll be fine. All about testimony, not grades.
Easy class. Crazy professor. He is obsessed with becoming a god. Its about all he talks about. I also found him really patronizing. This man singlehandedly weakened my testimony. Tests are on Blackboard and are easy. You can take him, just don't bother going to his class.
This class was amazing!! Brother Perkins made the scriptures come alive - he really made everything applicable to his students. He really loves the subject matter and those he teaches. Take this class from him if you can. He's great.
Pretty easy-go to class and do the reading assignments, you'll do well. The tests are long but really easy if you are familiar with general gospel knowledge - I hardly studied and just managed an A. He is VERY enthusiastic but honestly I didn't learn a lot of new things, the scope of the lectures is kind of limited and repetitive. Great guy though.
This Professor is ridiculous. He has power points that he just reads to you and it is extremely repetitive. I was fighting to keep my eyes open during lectures. He's almost OVER enthusiastic. Tests were the worst part. Lots of guessing what answer HE would pick. Not very open to other students comments or opinions and rushed through questions.
what's wrong with you people? perkins is awesome! he is one of THE BEST religion professors! he is so excited about the gospel and loves his students. he teaches true doctrine and always backs up what he says with quotes and scriptures. tests are open book and on blackboard so you can take as long as you want.
Br. Perkins is the most humble and engaging man I have ever met. He is genuinely invested in the learning and success of his students. His class isn't overly difficult. Go to class and take notes and you'll get an A. Recommend this class to anyone!
Bro Perkins is the one of the best religion teachers at BYU. He doesn't focus on useless facts, rather on things that actually apply to spiritual growth. Makes all lectures exciting. cares about students enough to learn their names. Take Doctrine and Covenants from Perkins, learn a lot, feel the spirit, get an A.
This class is one of the best I have ever taken. Brother Perkins is very humble, eloquent, and respectful to students. The reading selections are small - focus is on pondering the scriptures and receiving personal revelation daily. Would very very highly recommend this class.
will bend over backwards to help you get an A and teach you the doctrine at the same time!
Brother Perkins was an amazing teacher! I learned so much in his class. His tests were a little hard, they are open scripture and he let you put notes on post-its in your scriptures. He loved hearing from students on what they thought in class. Attend class and you will grow and learn so much. Made me want to take the second half of D&C from him.
Bro. Perkins is an amazing religion teacher. I have no idea how he does it, but he will know you're name by the second or third class- he is incredibly personal and very friendly. I was spiritually edified each and every class. Take Perkins if you want good spiritual enlightenment without having to bust yourself for an A.
Fantastic class. Felt the Spirit every time. He's very knowledgeable but also allows for a lot of class participation. Open scripture tests (my scriptures are now much more useful to me). By honestly doing all of the reading and journaling this was my most time intensive class. I gained a greater testimony but it required more than anticipated.
He is not my favorite, but is clear. He gives you opportunities to make up points on the test. I think is fine. I recommend him.
Great lectures. Just TONS of reading. Tests are a little tricky. But overall, really felt the Spirit in the class.
Was a fun guy to listen to. Though his test were pretty hard, you can make up the points through a really easy petition process. He did repeat himself A LOT. The first half of every class was review of last lecture. Kind of annoying. Reading assignments are huge. Takes a lot of time but is worth it. I learned a lot. No dates on tests!
He was very theatrical. I found myself more annoyed than edified. He knows his stuff well, but also likes to push his own interpretations of scripture and will test you on them. It may have been my own hard-heartedness, but I struggled to feel the Spirit in his class because I felt I was being manipulated by his drama.
I felt I did very little work and got a B+ in the class. There probably are easier religion classes, but this one is manageable. I think if you go to class every day, take good notes, study, and read your assignments, you can easily get an A. I didn't always do that, hence the B+. Tests are hard, but your attendance grade evens it out.
Bro. Perkins was a great teacher. His quizzes are just to see if you came to class and did your reading. All the tests are on blackboard and are open book. They can be kind of tough but if you read and pay attention in class they aren't bad at all. More than anything he just wants you to grow spiritually.
This class was definitely NOT my favorite class. Maybe it's just me, but I felt like he was super self-righteous and all about looks. He is very preachy and sometimes would share "doctrine" that I know were only his opinions. There is tons of reading required, and it's just pretty pathetic.
I couldn't stand this class. Lectures are very boring and the material is presented in a very exaggerated way. Tests are on blackboard and are his own interpretation of the scriptures. Avoid at all costs if you already dislike BYU religion classes.
I've never seen someone have mood swings so quickly. Honestly he would just start to make a sad voice and act like he was crying, and then 5 seconds later he would be yelling. I don't think it's bad to be emotional, but when you are being fake just to get a dramatic effect, it doesn't help much. And, his tests were way tough, but on blackboard
J Master Perkins is AMAZING!!!! I have absolutely loved every class. He teaches by the Spirit and is also very captivating and entertaining. He is very willing to work with you. Quizzes are based on attendance and reading. Tests are on blackboard. He really is fantastic and I have learned so much from him!!! PERKINS IS GREAT!!!
LOVED this class! He always teaches with the spirit and always keeps class interesting. I looked forward to class everyday. Tests were really hard and there was a lot of reading but totally worth it. Best religion professor I have had.
He is a nice guy, but I couldn't stand his style. Every lesson is exactly the same, crammed with so much repetitive info, he rushes through as fast as he can. He asks for tons of comments, but always cuts people off. I eventually stopped going to class because I kept getting angry. Religion classes aren't supposed to make you angry!
He's a way nice guy and the class is easy. He's very animated but the lectures seemed very repetitious. I struggled to pay attention.
Exams are open scripture. Much of your grade comes from simply doing the reading and writing in your study journal. Unique teaching style (very rote) but very enlightening if you're there for the right reasons.
This is the worst class I've ever taken. The slideshows are totally worthless, yet there are almost 50 slides for each class. The tests are impossible and might kick you out. There are twenty different answers and he gives you a study guide that might as well be written in braille. Half the questions cover the Old Testament. Find another teacher!
This was probably my least favorite religion class I have ever taken at BYU. I was so excited to learn about the doctrine and instead I got bombarded with endless power point slides and his useless opinions. He is a nice guy but I wouldn't recommend him.
I think Brother Perkins is sincere in his desire to teach, but, at least for me, it all seemed very theatrical and contrived. It was hard for me to go to class because it felt fake...the spirit should just come, not be shoved down our throats. The tests were hard as well as a lot of the questions revolved around his opinion.
Wow, comments on here have been harsh. I don't think he shoves the spirit down your throats, he genuinely tries to invite it. I think his defining characteristic is sincerity. The tests are super easy, it's open scripture and he lets you put all your notes in your scriptures on sticky notes! I took both D&C from him, he's a fine professor.
Bro Perkins has been my favorite religion professor so far. He is very passionate about his teaching and loves his students. He also wants you to do well and is willing to work with you. He focuses on applying the doctrine to our lives today instead of rattling off historical facts like some other professors do. I would recommend him.
Easiest class ever. Open book tests, reading, journals and attendance all submitted online once a week. No papers, but you do have to submit one journal entry twice a semester just so he knows you're doing them.
I loved Brother Perkins, he's hit exactly what I'd hoped for in religion classes before I came to BYU. He's remarkably sincere, loves the Lord and the doctrine, I always felt the Spirit in class. Believe it or not, I even felt edified by the tests. I'm taking him for any religion class I can from now on!
He is a good teacher, a little boring sometimes but the test are open scripture and online so its easy to get an A. Powerpoints are online but if you dont go to class you lose 2 points. He's pretty good.
Bro. Perkins' class is really unorganized and hard to follow. I wanted to have a D&C class that expanded on the doctrine and to hear other stories from the early days of the church that aren't included in the scriptures, but he did none of this. His tests are really long and unorganized so they are hard. You have to memorize ALL of his powerpoints.
He doesn't really care about the D&C as much as he cares about you. he wants you to succed not only in class, but in life, and he wants so bad for you to gain eternal salvation... sometimes it gets repetitive, but still good. Tests are ok, he let us retake them. they're all on blackboard. good, easy class. not my favorite teacher, but a good one.
This was my least favorite class at BYU. You think it's going to be a breeze with open book tests, everything is on blackboard and you only have to submit 2 journals but the tests were super long and disorganized and I didn't remember any of it! He has no structure. Don't take this class if you want to learn the history of D&C.
Brother Perkins is a really nice guy who teaches some deep concepts and has good insights, but I just don't relate to him. I don't know what it was, but his style of teaching just doesn't impact me the way it should, considering what it is he's teaching. Nice guy though
Very nice guy. I could not pay attention when he was teaching, however. His teaching style just didn't get across to me. His tests are much, much too hard for a 2 credit religion class. They take hours to do and really just end up frustrating me, even though they are supposed to be a "study session"
Lots of reading, attendance is mandatory. His tests are on Blackboard, which is nice. They are pretty difficult, but he allows you to petition your grade by defending some of your missed answers saying why you thought they were wrong, and he'll give you back some points. He's very passionate about what he teaches.
He is so nice and helpful, but you need to study for his tests they can be really hard. Also be prepared to really study the scriptures and learn a lot. I loved this class and I would recommend him, just don't slack off.
He is a great teacher! I loved his insights and learned so much about D&C. However, his tests were pretty hard, and there is a lot of reading. I would take this class again though because he is so great.
Probably one of the most sincerely kind people I have ever met. Yet, I couldn't stay focused in his class. He tries to cram too much in at one time. His tests are huge "guess what's in my head" games, and can really destroy your grade. Good guy, but I would recommend someone else.
BEST teacher I've ever had. He's extremely spiritual and cares about every student. He helps you as much as he can. You have to attend class and study to do well. You will LOVE him. He's hilarious too! (:
Brother Perkins is SO amazing!! He touched my heart many, many times in lecture. There is a daily reading assignment, but it's not usually very long. Attendance is mandatory for your grade, and so that you can do well on the tests. Tests are easy! Don't worry about them! Take this class if at all possible! Perkins is the best!
Bro. Perkins is a good lecturer, a very nice guy, and he has a strong testimony. I like him a lot, but his tests are ridiculous and his slideshows on blackboard are extremely long and redundant.
Brother Perkins is a very nice guy. His lectures are almost always entertaining. Tests are harder than you would think they would be but he lets you turn in petitions to get credit for questions you missed. Not a hard class and a good teacher.
I LOVE BROTHER PERKINS. He is a wonderful teacher and always has the Spirit in his classes. I learned new things everyday that have helped me very much this year and I know will help me continually throughout my life. His tests can be hard but take good notes and look for the PowerPoints he posts online, you study that you're golden.
VERY theatrical. Didn't really learn much. If you are looking for any sort of historical background on the D&C- you will not find it here. I felt like since he was SO over the top all the time that I couldn't feel the Spirit. Just wasn't my style.
He's a great guy. He really is. but his powerpoints, emails, and exams are trash. Over the top. I don't feel the Spirit in his class.
One of my favorite religion classes I've taken at BYU. Brother Perkins took the time to learn the names of every student in my 30 person section of the class and he always greets you by name as you enter. The tests can be sort of tricky, but his lessons were so spiritual and you could tell how passionate he is about the subject. Highly recommended
Fantastic guy, super easy class. Yes the tests are long and kinda hard but he will give you lots of points if you petition for them. Take this class!!!!!
Brother Perkins is an awesome teacher. I love how he gets to know your name and remembers things about you which is impressive in a class size of 50+. His greatest desire is for you as the student to learn and he is the nicest human being I've ever met. I learned a lot- felt the spirit many many times. The tests are hard but loved the lectures.
Brother Perkins is very passionate and into what he teaches. I felt the Spirit almost every class. He does try to squeeze in a lot of material so it can be a little overwhelming. He always seems to be rushing through the material. Class itself is quite easy. I felt the Spirit strongly doing the readings. Tests are long but not that bad. Very wordy.
Brother Perkins is my favorite teacher at BYU thus far. He is an excellent lecturer. He expects participation and will call on you if you don't raise your hand, so be prepared! But he finds something good in every comment made and genuinely cares about each student. Tests are challenging but fair. Loved the class and the teacher!
Brother Perkins class was engaging. Must read material and participate. Tests are open book, but can be considered difficult by some. However, paying attention in lecture is sufficient to pass them with relative ease. My favorite religion professor at BYU. Yields great insights and inspired me to live doctrine taught.
my roommate took the same class with a different prof. and I did double if not triple the amount of work. the test makes up your whole grade so if you're, not a good test taker don't take this class.
