Ribaya is a very laid back prof. His teachings are insightful and easy-listening. Of all science instructors I've had, he's by far the best. The class grade only consists of tests, which is the only bad part. Solid teacher overall.
Best Teacher Ever. Dr. J is just a great human being, that can genuinly relate to students. He made Biology fun and interesting!
I didn't think a Saturday morning Biology lecture would be fun. Great teacher!
He is an amazing teacher! Very thorough and makes the calls fun. I hate science but he made it the best possible. He is very understanding and one of the best I've ever had.
He is a nice, young teacher who understands how students are, so he tries to be accommodating. His quizzes are easy because.... But his midterms and finals could be a little confusing. Just learn from his power points. I aced the class without reading the book. You just have to pay attention in class.
I loved him.. hes young and fun.. i didnt feel threatened by him, hes very approachable if u have questions..he makes lab fun.. just study your lab manual and you'll have no problem getting a good grade. not to mention kinda cute!
Seriously speaking Mr. Ribaya, is the best teacher ever. He makes the class so much fun, anyone who needs a Bio class should def take him you wont regret it! He is like one of the hommies lol
VERY tough class but Dr. Ribaya is a fantastic teacher. He is passionate, fair, concerned, dedicated, smart and hilarious to boot...
Anatomy is a hard subject to make interesting, but Dr. Ribaya made it interesting and knows his powerpoint lectures word for word. Smart teacher, funny at times and serious at times. He enjoys lecturing which makes it enjoyable. Listen very well during the Genetics lecture, his favorite, and most difficult.
amazing teacher! he was so cute i would get embarrassed to go ask him ?s haha!!! but he has passion when he teaches and gives great little references on helping to remember things. very thorough too. quizzes were great cuz all the ?s are on the test too. pay attention and you should pass easily. he talks like me and not all doctory...easy 2 get
This Professor is extremely hard. Initially, upon starting the class, he definitely brought down the class morale for scaring the crap outta the class about how difficult the class was going to be. He is young and can come across as arrogant, insensitive to needs of pregnancy women during labs and will add and take away extra credit points at will
as long as you attend the lecture and pay attention, the test will be easy. his tests come straight off his lecture slides

Based on his educational training, content knowledge and (most importantly) his ability to teach...this guy is a top notch pro! He is the Michael Jordan of biology. Your grade is based strictly on the time you invest in the class, period.
Just study his power point slides period. He's very organized and detailed. Visit his office hours and he will answer questions regarding the material. Just be prepared though to have your questions ready or else. Best teacher ever in terms of providing content material. In a direct way- his PP slides you must use to help you study.
I didnt like the way he was he seemed to get anoyed when we aked for help or questions.
Possesses the academic credentials and background to teach at a higher tier university(UCLA)and he knows how to convey the material in an understandable way.Definitely utilize his PowerPoint slides and keep up with the reading. You get back what you put in, folks. Second coming of Mendel, with the "moves" and packaging of a JabbaWockee. He's LEGIT!
he is a horrible teacher and person. very intimidating, not open to helping students. it is a very hard class to begin with and he makes it even harder. the semester i took this class was the worse semester i had at rio hondo.
I did not enjoy one bit taking this course at all, and I know it was not because of the material because I love Biology it was the professor. He is not willing to help student succeed. He offers extra credit, yet, it is nearly impossible to get those points. He makes students feel dumb when they ask a question. Did not like him at all.
mr.Ribaya gives a long lecture that is so boring on genetics and the exam questions for genetics are out of space, nothing in lectures or powerpoint...he's die hard ucla fan..an exam question..not too much help from him.he gets mad easily and don't like to be asked to many questions...
i would HATE to take this professor again. i got an A in this class with no help from him at all. tests, lectures, quizes, practicles, labs are insanely hard!! i understand that it's a hard subject but ribaya is the kind of professor who seems like he wants you to fail.
1. He will help you ONLY if you ask. 2. People who don't the class seriously are stupid, complain then drop. 3. READ the slides, his test are solely based off them, word for word. 4. Over half the class drops because they can't follow directions. Seriously. 5. Go to class. Go over slides, over and over again. Ask questions. You will get an A.
Anatomy is a very hard subject.if you are a lazy student dont take it.the key is study, study, and study.thats your part. his part he is the most organized teacher. This guy is a professional, seriously.in other words he is an excellent teacher, but anatomy is hard. if you like science you"ll be pleasure being his student
This professor was not boring, and explained all the lecture in a way to make you understand. If you pay attention and are not lazy or distracted then you will do good. You do have to dedicate yourself to study,Anatomy is all memorization. He is very helpful, you must do your part in the class and he will meet you half way. He is the BEST!
I LOVE HIM! I am currently taking him and yes he is intimidating at first but he is NICE and HELPFUL ask questions and he will answer honestly the class is not hard if you STUDY STUDY STUDY dont take the class for granted! He is a great prof. funny and cute :) he knows his stuff!! he is a 10
I got an A. Studying just his lecture slides was sufficient enough. His tests are completely straight-forward and easy and based directly off his slides. You can always read the textbook if you want further clarification. It's essentially all the same information anyway. If all this science jargon is new to you, give yourself a few days to learn th
Tips for success: 1. Read the textbook/lab manual before you come to lecture/lab. 2. Study the lecture notes daily (even on the weekends) to prepare yourself for the quizzes/midterms/final 3. Take pictures of everything in lab because the lab practicals are very visual. 4. When studying for the practical study with a timer: #Qs/2 minutes? Good Luck
Tips for success: 1)Study everyday to prepare for quizzes/midterms/final 2)Read the textbook/lab manual before lecture/lab 3)Take pictures of everything in lab because the practical is very visual 4)Time yourself at home when studying for lab. See how many Q's you can answer in 2 mins. 5)Attend OHs and have Q's prepared 6)Try to learn/not memorize
The tests are really hard.
He is totally not helpful. Can't find him during office hours.
Ribaya is the man!! IDC what ppl have said b4 me! Excellent teacher. Explains things with clarity. Throws in jokes about the stuff so you'll remember it. Just sit down, listen, and memorize. Very organized. He may sit there but if you need help, ASK! (don't expect him to go to you) he's super helpful! :) TAKE HIM!
Woo Hoo!!! I can't believe I passed the class. This was the hardest class ever. I got a B....I don't care I'll take it. Thanks to Ribaya I got through it, and I made it without dropping, cuz I wanted to drop this class everyday. U just got to study, there's no way around it. Take Ribaya he's cool people. Thank u Jay
Just study his power point and you'll pass his test. Want to get the extra credit on his test? REALLY study his PP and make sure you know if off the top of you head because it won't be multiple choice. This class is easy, doesn't require any critical thinking, purely MEMORIZATION!!!!! Just put in the time and you can easily get an A.
Dr. Ribaya is very knowledgeable and very organized. Everything you need to know from the exams will be taken from the lecture slides. In my opinion, having good lab partners can definitely help to make or break your lab grade. Take pictures of everything in lab. Dont be intimidated and ask questions! Anatomy is not easy, so don't slack!
The class itself is not too hard as long as you study, but the lab is unnecessarily hard, we are not aloud to film Ribaya as he points and names out stuff during lab so we are left trying to write in descriptions of what he is pointing at. It would have been a much easier lab if we could film him.
He has very well organized slides. About 99% of the test questions are on there. This class requires lots of memorizing! Overall Ribaya is a great instructor. Only thing I didn't like was that when he would be asked questions it seemed like he was bothered.
Get ahead with your lab materials that way when he's explaining, you're not lost. He leaves his students hanging, so be prepared to ask questions if you don't understand. His lectures are DEEP, pay attention. STUDY is all I can say.
Very interesting lectures and willing to answer questions. He's very nice to provide such detailed power points that way we would not have to read the textbook. The extra credit questions are do able.
I love, love, love Dr. Ribaya! He's just AWESOME! Very clear on what he wants. Yes its hard but duh you need to STUDY!!! He explains everything perfectly. So far one of the BEST Prof at Rio! If you're thinking about Spencer omg don't do it! Ribaya is 100000000 tines better. He's simply amazing! Seems intimidating but he's a sweetheart!
One word AMAZING! Def recommend him! He's the best of the best! What can I say he is from the best UCLA! Take him!
Got a solid B. Tough class indeed. Great lecture. Test comes straight from his slides, no book needed. Attend his class for quizes. For lab, be prepare to memorize MANY terms (name, function, location), tests are timed so u gotta know it like a snap. Total 3 Lab exams, 7 quizes, 4 midterms, 1 Final(200 questions). Not Recommended to take in summer.
Ribaya is a really chill teacher. He's also super super smart and knows exactly what hes talking about to pay close attention to what he lectures and what he repeats. His exams are hard which are always 100 questions each :( and labs are a bit difficult too but study hard and you'll do fine! His attitude makes him cute too! :)
Ribaya is by far one of the best professors I have ever had at Rio. He teaches a really hard subject but makes it interesting in every aspect. Would definitely recommend him.
This class is really hard but Ribaya wll help you if you ask. You definitely need to study all the lecture slides to pass the tests. Also study your lab manual to pass practicals. Definitely take pictures of all the models in lab because they will be used for practicals.
I finally did it after my third time! passed his class, you must know the slides in an instant! u dont need the book though, you must study alot both lab and lecture got A's through all lecture tests but did miserably in the lab still passed with a B! thank god...ribaya is sick though i was too lazy. take him during regular semester! good luck
first and foremost this course was very hard. theres 4 lecture exams and 3 lab exam. The lecture exams are 100 questions and the final is 200 questions. the lab exams are timed where you need to find the right term to match the description. this class requires intense studying starting from day 1. and 10 pop quizzes. NO HW.
Professional, teaches well. The lecture exams were all from the powerpoint. Lab exams are hard and fast pace. You have to know the answer on the spot, no time for guessing. He can be grumpy at times.
Despite being a helpful and motivated professor, the class was a bit too fast paced with a lot of material to remember. This was the first time he taught Bio and because he was used to having Bio/Chem major students in upper classed Bio, it felt he expected we already knew some of the material. It's not a very easy class.
This course was amazing! Some tips: The Lab Manual is your study guide for the Lab. For Lab Practicals: SPELLING COUNTS! He will trick you so watch out. Don't forget to study slides and functions! For Lecture Exams: Everything you need to know is in the Power points. Pay attention to what he draws on board. Really Enjoyed this class! Awesome prof.!
I just had him for Lab but I really liked him. You must study for lab exams but he's helpful if you just ask him questions
Dr. Ribaya is THE best prof. i've ever had. Of course the class is hard. It has to be, but Ribaya breaks everything down to were you can understand and remember. This was my favorite class of all time. Put your time in n study a couple of HOURS per day n you'll be fine. he is SUPER helpful n he definitely knows his stuff. *HIGHLY* recommend...
Awesome professor ever! Does not give hw but gives pop quizzes so study study study! Tests for lectures comes straight from power point. Pay close attention in lab. He has a sense of humor so lecture is not boring
I took him for both physiology and anatomy. Super awesome professor. Very knowledgeable. Always willing to help students. Elucidates concepts extremely well. Provides numerous helpful and adorable mnemonics. Truly wants students to do well. Exams are straight from lecture. Gives many opportunities for extra credit. Funny and genuinely nice person.
Wow is all I can say! You don't always come across a professor that tirelessly works to ensure his students excel and after my experience, I was very humbled after taking him for anatomy and physiology. Got A's in both but I WORKED for those grades. Study steadily, please don't cram. I only wish he taught more classes :( thank you again, Dr Ribaya!
Professor Ribaya is great he takes a young hip approach to teaching a very difficult subject. You CANNOT be lazy in this class you have to study everyday. Also take pics in lab label everything and SYUDY STUDY STUDY it also is a huge help to have an amazing lab group. All in all I would recommend Dr. Ribaya for Anatomy and Lab awesome teacher.
He is a great teacher! He really brings the tough stuff down to our level to help us understand it in "english". Just stay on top of your studying. At least a couple hours a day to get an A. Not cause of him, but because there is so much material. Go to every lab and lecture it is really necessary! Overall had a great experience.
This class was really tough but Ribaya tries and help you as much as he can. He does teach pretty fast so you have to pay attention and not dose off. you do not need the book, just need to study the powerpoints. DO NOT TAKE IF YOUR TOO LAZY TO STUDY. make sure you study everyday, there is 2 quizzes b4 anexam and extra credit quizzes after each exam
lectures are ok but the test he gives are insane. he puts questions on their that he rarely goes over and expects you to know it. he tries to be funny which i didn't think he was at all. if you take him i hope you have a lot of time to study i still passed with an A but boy did i have to work for it learning everything on 100 power points per ch.
Oh Ribaya, where do I begin? He is a great person. That's a given. However I struggled the entire way through. I asked for help and all I really got was "Try and change the way you study". I'm a 3.8+ student & i'm very particular with my grades. This class was just beyond difficult, & the lab in my opinion was nothing but an opportunity to fail.
Ribaya is a great teacher! If you are a student that doesn't like to study or waits until the last minute to cram this is NOT the class for you. Studying in advance is a must for both lecture and lab. Review your slides every day because there is a pop quiz almost every lecture. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
He's a great professor and I learned a lot from his class. Tests aren't that tough as long as you study. Focus on the lecture material because that's what's going to be on the exams. He does give pop quizzes so make sure you attend class.
Fun professor. He gives all lecture PPTs, clear grading criteria, and he gives a lot of extra credits. If take time on reviewing PPTs, it is not hard to get good grades for miderm exams.
Ribaya is an Amazing teacher! Pop quiz whenever so study! He is very clear and will let you know what is expected to pass his class. He is very willing to help if you are willing to put in the effort. If you put effort in he even gives you extra credit opportunities! Tests are clear as day as long as you study for them! Oh, remember he loves UCLA!
The syllabus says "no extra credit" but really he gives EC opportunities so don't get intimidated. All material tested on the midterms and final are found in the slides. You don't need the book. He's clear on grading criteria since day one. You really have to study to get an A. It's not difficult material just a lot of memorizing.
This Professor is squared away! All information is uploaded to blackboard, all of it. Tip: open every file under the "Lab" portion. Photos of the models in class labeled, from there its just repetition. Lecture slide are also uploaded. Know the handouts "in-and-out." This class goes by Big-Kid Rules, study and show up if you want. -Ray
Best teacher at Rio. Makes class very interesting and clear. Pay attention no time to fool around in this class. Gives quizzes every week so study everyday at least 2 hrs. Spelling counts so test your spelling skills and memorization. He motivates you to do better and makes a stronger student out of you. Glad I took his class. :-)
He is an excellent professor. He explains all the material in great detail and he is willing to take any questions if you need help. He gives 2 pop quizzes before each exam which helps you for the exams. Don't buy the book. All his examquiz questions are taken from the power points. Only buy the lab book.
Professor Ribaya is a great instructor however he seems very rude and makes you feel dumb for asking a question, he gives of a vibe that hes annoyed that youre asking something to begin with. His test are soooo hard, Im not even exaggerating I am an excellent test taker and failed two of his test causing me to drop the class. This class is no joke.
Dr. Ribaya gives many extra credits. It is easy to get an A because all things for quizzes and exams are in the power point slides.
Dr. Ribaya, yes doctor, is a great professor. Doesn't just read from power points, he elaborates and always asks if there are any questions before moving on. He adds comedy and personal experiences to his teaching which I feel makes it easier to learn.
You learn to respect and appreciate a great passionate teacher like Dr. Ribaya. Its all on YOU to put in the time and effort to pass. Like really REALLY. Laziness is the devil when it comes to this class. Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't be a weenie when he answers not in an as excited tone as when he lectures, as long as you understand.
Dr. Ribaya is passionate about teaching! Physiology is challenging, and there is a lot of material to master. Pay attention to Powerpoint & lecture. I recommend recording all lectures & lab. Read, study, and study again! There are pop quizzes, and lab homework. Attend all classes. Be engaged. Go to office hours. Dr. Ribaya is awesome!!!
Dr. Ribaya is a great professor! Physiology is hard. Be ready to study. Lots to remember. Know his Powerpoints and lectures. There is lab homework too. I studied 3-4 hours everyday. This is one class you will not pass if you wait to study the very last minute! Reality check this is college. Oh, he went to UCLA. Best science professor at Rio!
Although he seems like a cool guy that that makes the subject easy to understand during lecture, he is absolutely the worst when you come to him for help. When asked for further clarification on a specific concept after reading the book, his answers were to go back to the book. Not only does he view questions as insignificant, he rushes you out.
Dr. Ribaya is cool! Physiology is a hard! He tries to break it down as much as possible. Focus on his lecture, Powerpoint, and read the book to grasp this difficult subject. Be on top of studying & you will be alright. He does give pop quizzes. There is lab with homework too. If you are lazy, this class is NOT for you. Thanks Dr. Ribaya.
Physio. is way harder than Anatomy! Dr. Ribaya breaks it down for you. He is tough, but fair. Study from day 1. Be on top of it because there are pop quizzes. Concentrate on Powerpoint and classroom lectures. Record his lectures! There is lab & lab homework. You get what you put into this class. He is way cool! Thanks Dr. Ribaya :)
Study, stay on top of material, always review, participate.
Dr Baya's course is the hardest I've ever taken! As a matter of fact I failed the first time but there's no other professor I would have taken BIO with. He is detailed and always asks if we have questions. He won't answer stupid questions so pay attention. His pop quizzes are given at the beginning of class and is fast at giving u your test scores
4 exams, 1 cummilitive final. 10 timed pop quizes at the beginning of the class so don't miss class. Dont need book Memorize slides to pass tests. Gives extra credit but you have to get all right or you get nothing. Lab has 3 timed tests, label and take pictures of models to pass tests. Optional extra credit quiz at the end of each lab.
Although this is "general" biology level course with no prerequisites this is not so. If you are walking off the street thinking that this is a "bird course" (Lauryn Hill--Sister Act 2), you are dearly mistaken. You will work for your grade ladies and gentlemen. To all the people who "kinda" want to be a nurse go look for another profession. 143135
This class was very challenging but so much fun. I took it over the summer and it was quite demanding but his attitude made the class entertaining. He grades test in a good amount of time so you don't have to wonder what your grade is. Highly recommend!
His exams were very difficult to pass, lab exams weren't so bad. He really doesn't give u your grade you give yourself your grade. My advice to you before taking this class which was something I lacked is Make sure u know the best way to study & if the way you're currently studying is not working, change it ASAP. Oh, Gives exam grades back fast.
It was a pleasure having class with Dr. Ribaya but make sure you are on top of your game because he will be truthful that you have to study and study and believe me don't lack off. If he tells you study everyday do it because it will pay off at the end and he is really nice outside of class and he wants you to pass class. Do NOT MEMORIZE REVIEW.
Very difficult class. There is huge chunk of extra credit for every test but you either get it all right or you do not get the extra credit at all. When he returned the first exam, a lot of students got bad grades and he laughed if off by saying "Yeah, lots of professor says I make the exam too difficult". Also, he makes you feel inadequate.
His exams were a bit tough. The amount of time and effort put into studying really made a difference. All the info you needed to know were in his powerpoints and he also did offer quite a bit of extra credit. Very Interesting subject. If only I were a Biology major I would've definitely taken his genetics course. Thank you, Dr. Ribaya. ^_^
There's a lot to read and memorize. Start before semester begins to be ahead. Pop-quizzes, so it's up to you if you skip class. He gets very into lectures which helps a lot. Looks like he hates the world but pretty funny. All about UCLA & Giants. 2min per question timed Lab tests are brutal. You have to have time to study or you will not pass.
STUDY and you will be fine, can't stress that enough. He's constantly reminding the class to study for a reason, he wants you to do well. He asks a lot of questions to see how prepared you are which is awesome. DO NOT procrastinate or you're done, trust me. Had to take the class twice because i didn't expect to study so much.
At the beginning of the semester he clearly lays out how everything will go. He has great lectures with beneficial material to prep for exams. He is actually is kind of funny, he has good and bad days like anyone else, but a great instructor for creating a solid foundation of anatomy and for future classes. Lab exams are difficult so prepare well.
Dr. Ribaya is by far one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are phenomenal and engaging. He is firm but fair. If you put in the time to study and review the power points/lab manual, then you will have no problem passing his class. The material covered isn't necessarily difficult however it is a lot of information. Easily accessible!
He is a great professor, he engages his students and makes things very clear and will further explain things if you don't understand. He's can tell when his students want to be there and I think it makes class better for everyone, he can also tell when they don't want to be there and all I can say it that it probably will not go well for that class
Funny and sensational lectures. Dr. Ribaya is not a babysitter. He will not reprimand you if you don't attend class but you will fall behind - guaranteed! He is firm and fair. The material isn't difficult but it requires plenty of memorization. The pop quizzes are simple if you study regularly. I'm taking him for Physio. You the man, Ribaya!
Really straight forward. Tests you on material he teaches ONLY! Book not needed but will definitely help. Beware of pop quizzes. A lot of material to remember. If you do not study properly, you will not pass!! Guaranteed. Does not give you feedback on how you did in test and is pretty shady when it comes to showing grades.
This class is no joke, be prepared to study. Dr. Ribaya is best described as passionate with a tough love mentality, and a no excuses personality type. He has great intentions and only wants you to succeed. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed through his power points + Lecture. Also he has great taste in Shoes. Bred 11s and Ultraman SBs
Dr. Ribaya is one of the best professors I have taken at Rio Hondo. Sure, he's tough but it's for your own good. He's BIG on following directions and gives you all the tools you need to pass. It's up to YOU to put in the work and time. If you're a lazy student, don't bother taking his class. Put in the time and study the power points!!
What make this class difficult is the teacher's approach to teaching. He is very hard on students who ask questions and need clarification. It's as if he gets upset if you don't fully understand him. He will make you feel inadequate and has verbalized that he wouldn't care if he has to fail students. He has little respect for students.
He expects you to be able to answer your own questions and makes you feel dumb if you ask him. Is that not part of a professor's job? Instead of helping and encouraging students to work hard he literally tells students if you cannot pass his class to simply think about changing your major.
Ribaya was honestly one of the best professors Ive had at Rio Hondo. Yes he expects a lot from his students, but I can seriously say I learned so much. His tests were very fair if you studied for them. So much of his lectures you will use/remember especially if youre considering going into the nursing program. He is an excellent teacher. Study!!
Ribaya has entertaining lectures which help you memorize the information. He does not mess around. Study and you will pass. Your homework is to review the material. If you are a slacker or a last minute crammer then this is not the class for you. I could have gotten an A but I procrastinated. He is hot too!
Ribaya is great. Took him for bio 125 in the summer, he respected our time and made an effort to answer our questions, really appreciate him as he even showed up a day after his brother had passed. Straightforward, no b.s kinda guy. He's tough but if you study you will be fine. Review before class, ask questions, record lectures.
Ribaya is a wonderful professor who holds high expectations for his students. He projects a "tough love" mentality which, I believe, challenges students to do better. Students who are sensitive or have tendencies to slack off may think he's a mean person. Because of him I was forced to try harder and I ended up getting a good grade. Study guys!!!
You really have to invest your time into this class. The material itself isn't difficult. What makes it difficult is how much material there is to learn. Professor Ribaya is awesome. He's tough on you because he cares and want's you to understand not just memorize. Have bad study skills? not after this class. Best professor i've ever had.
Bio226 was definitely a tough course! A lot of studying in order to pass this course. Lecture tests are difficult when it comes to short answer questions so study in depth because you won't know what the short answer questions will be. Lab tests are not as difficult as lecture exams. Professor Ribaya is a great professor, definitely recommend.
Inspiring!! Study his lectures. Test solely off of lectures. Did I mention you should go over his lectures/slides? You get my point. Participate in class and don't slack on studying. Treadmill the info like he says: you want to learn and understand rather than memorize. You will need this info later.
Great professor. I took him twice and each time he does a good job at laying out exactly what you need to do to be successful. He gives pop quizs that count towards your overall grade. So I recommend staying on top of your studying and you'll be okay. The class isn't hard, it's just A LOT of material that is covered. So stay studying everyday!
Dr. Ribaya is nothing short of amazing. He certainly prepares his students for the health sciences field. This is not a class you can run through. Study, digest, and interpret the material and you will earn the grade you deserve. He will repeatedly impress this upon you. Ribaya's lectures are entertaining , "it's you bro!" So glad I took him!
Am I the only one who thinks he's way too cocky? Probably not. Mr. Ribaya is very stand-offish, he's not approachable, but is condescending. If you have the chance to take someone else, do so.
Dr. Ribaya is one of the best instructors Ive had. It is a lot of material but he teaches well. He may seem unapproachable but hes actually very easy to talk to. Study every day. Seriously. Especially for labs. Hes generous with extra credit. If you put in the work youll get the grade you want. I definitely reccomend him.
Everyone in this class is so afraid to ask him questions because he is very intimidating. He doesn't like to answer your questions or repeat himself twice. Isn't it his job to help students? Isn't he getting pay to be a professor and helps the student succeed? I guess not. He likes to give out quizzes when the class is half full. Great guy LOL.
Bruh we go to the talk today since our average was 60
Tough, but only because there is a lot of material as there would be with any other professor. He cares about his students &pushes everyone to do well not just for themselves but for their future patients. Don't skip class, study well, make study groups, and take advantage of extra points. Don't know my grade yet but still say hes a great teacher.
Got an A without buying the textbook (just buy lab manual) Ribaya is AMAZING. His lectures are funny and memorable. Class is fair. Ppl who leave bad reviews are bitter bc a passing grade isnt handed to u, u gotta study HOURS but it is 100% doable. Go to EVERY CLASS ON TIME. No HW, just exams. Lots of Extra-credit. Tests are curved. You can do it!!
Amazing professor that he is passionate about the subject. He is a comedian at times. The exams are mainly based on what he says and the notes. Lab exams are difficult if not ready. Do the "treadmill technique" it will save you alot of stress.
Grades based off lect/labexams/quiz/final. Take during semester, not summer if ur a slow learner/don't have time. Need to work hard/study constantly to pass. As a core class needed for nursing programs, you won't want to get a C. I dropped w/o the w bc I knew I wouldn't be able to pass yet. I recommend pre studying for anatomy prior to taking this.
Good prof, teaches and explains well. Straightforward (grading + exam too) and does not beat around the bush. Did not use the book, prof puts down what you need to learn from the book onto the powerpoints. Print powerpoints beforehand so you spend class time listening to the prof and understanding instead of writing and not listening. Also funny.
Dr. Ribaya is very caring and professional. He motivates his students to work hard. Show up on time for pop quizzes. I like that he gives students study tips... treadmill. He is very thorough and makes his lectures memorable.
Get ready to work really hard, because anything he says or anything written on his handouts are up for grabs. He will give you 4-5 chapters to study before an exam takes place. There is so much new vocab. Its practically a different language. Lab exams are timed and both structure and function must be stated or all wrong. Good Luck!
Learn how to study Always EC opportunities but difficult if not on top of everything Be ready for each lect for quiz finish lab before class Best instructor Ive ever had Lect and Lab exams are manageable but study everyday if you want A's Grade based only on exams and quiz Find a good group to study with Never be late and never leave early Amazing
Lect Exams based on PPT's print and preread before class it helps lab exam difficult timed know structure and function very important listen for his tips and always go back and study difficult but easy if you study constantly expects you to get things right away funny lectures Hes strict but means well just wants us to be great healthcare providers
Dr. Ribaya is a professor that will continue to push you throughout the semester. He may seem like he's too hard on you, but he is doing it for your own good. He knows human anatomy like the back of his hand, and his class is very straight forward.
Dr. J is the BEST! His class is the hardest I have ever had, but only because I had to invest SO MUCH time in it. Honestly, if you put time into it every night, and really study the powerpoint slides and re-listen to lectures, you have no reason not to get an A. Pop quizzes weekly to keep you on task. You will learn A LOT in this class. Worth it!
I had the privilege of having Dr. Ribaya for both Anatomy and Physiology. He's the best professor I've had. He teaches well and its clear that he loves what he does. Pay attention to his lectures, read his slides before class and study everyday for both the pop quizzes and exams. I highly recommend his class. I wish he taught micro.
Dr. J is a great teacher. Do not expect to leave early ever, you will get your money worth as he says himself! Although he leaves your attendance to class on you, you may not want to miss becuase you will be lost. He says a lot of jokes throughout the lectures that help refer to the chapter. I definitely recommend him if you are willing to put.
Dr. J is an amazing professor who pushes his students to do well and pass the class. He seems intimidating but is really approachable and easy to talk to. Not an easy class, but if you work for it, you can pass. Would definitely recommend taking him.
Prof Ribaya is the best professor I have taken. His lectures keep you interested, material is relevant, and it helps that he is funny. He encourages questions and participation. I wish he taught micro, he made getting up for an 8am lab a lot less difficult. He tells you exactly what he expects and how to be successful in his class, in college/life
I love Professor Ribaya, he is an amazing teacher and breaks difficult topics down, to my understanding. Take him for anatomy, but I wouldnt take him for physiology just because his midterms are set for failures: 100 multiple choice questions + 3-6 essay questions that you have to finish in 90 minutes. Do the math. Good luck.
The class itself is difficult, all memorization. If youre going to take it, you need to invest a lot of time into it. He doesnt care if you show up or not, but you definitely want to because you learn new info each class. He doesnt fill out the lab manual with you, so I always felt like I had some incorrect stuff in there. He gives pop quizzes.
Never used textbook; all info for test was from lecture slides. The material isn't hard, but there's A LOT of it. Invest in a Quizlet subscription if you really want to pass. Wish I'd taken the class with another professor. Anytime I tried to talk to him during office hours he acted annoyed I was interrupting his Amazon shopping/Youtube watching.
Dr. Ribaya is the best professor i have taken at Rio Hondo. His way of teaching is intriguing in anyone pursuing in learning this subject. He gets to the point in lectures and does not go off topic which was why i respected his way of lecture. It is a ton of information but if you take the time to study it is an easy A and you will learn a lot.
Ribaya gives you all the necessary tools and info to succeed. its up to you to put in the work. He curves test scores, no half credit on exam question its all or nothing. 3 or 4 pop quizzes before every exam. all you need to do to pass is study what is in the powerpoint and lab manual. does give EC in exams. started with about 90 ppl ended with 25
Don't need textbooks, just make sure you have slides ready before each class/be careful not to slack off on studying. Pop quizzes can put a huge dent on your grade. Lect exams are pretty difficult if youre not studying and you have to answer quickly, 100mc+4-7freeresponse within only your lecture time. Extremely hard but worth it for your future.
Ribaya was the hardest teachers Ive had at Rio but he fully prepared me for what I needed to know for physiology. He is strict but its because he cares about your future and your success. He can be hard to talk to but if you follow the rules and pay attention to detail you will pass no problem. Im sad he isnt teaching physiology this semester.
He is a great professor when on campus and in an actual classroom setting, however, when classes were switched to online due to covid19, his talent ended there. His video lectures are basically him reading his lecture slides to you. If your doing his class online, be prepared to work hard. His exams are tough with tricky questions.
Im going to be honest, this is was a really difficult class. As soon your first day of class starts study right away so you can be head of the material. He may be intimidating but once you get to know him he is really chill and funny. I also liked that once you finish a midterm he gives you feedback right away. Even during covid, he still cared.
Like other students said, in class he teaches great but online was very challenging. In all fairness learning online (and teaching) is much harder and was new to many of us. If you learn hands on and visually than take this class when schools reopen.
From day 1 he makes it clear what you need to do to succeed in his class. I took him during the transition (covid-19) & he made the transition a smooth one, he wants you to understand the material not just memorize it and I felt he did a great job at that. He didn't just 'read' his lectures, he explains everything throughly! I enjoyed his class!
I am one of the few students that survived through the whole covid 19 transition of this class. He definitely rolled with the punches. Still he delivered engaging and to the point lectures. If you have any question he does respond fairly quickly . As long as you take it serious and get creative with studying you will pass. Good luck !
Took his class during the covid transition and although it was tough he made an effort to help students succeed in an online setting. If you are lucky enough to take him in person , do it. Im not saying the class is easy but you can tell that he loves what he does and actually cares about his students.... and the dad jokes are a plus
I understand anatomy is hard to teach online, but having only exams and quizzes is setting up students to fail. He expects you to understand the material 100%, if you dont? Good luck on the exam. Yes, lecture slides do help to prepare for the exam but only maybe about 40% of it. Beware of this guys class.
Okay so I've taken Anatomy before almost 5 years ago and needed it to be updated. I took it at PCC prepandemic and boy is there a difference. This professor posts video lectures, no live zoom classes so no opportunities to ask questions in real time, his exams are insane using technology to monitor you via your webcam. 4 systems per exam. Insane!!
We didn't have any real classes it was all asynchronous, which was really nice. Really loved this class!!
Only grades based off of exams and quizzes and most have to be curved because the class average always falls below 70. He also promised pop quizzes for extra credit and we only got one extra credit quiz with the exception of the intro e.c.
Personally, I would never ever want to take Bio class with this professor. He explains too fast in his video and I am already bad with Bio. As you guys may know, during the pandemic right now, he is a tough grader and his tests, quizzes, and exams are very hard. His video are so long and I get bored very easy from his lecture.
If you want to pass your Bio class, don't take him. He is better in person than online. For his quizzes, he does not give correct answers for us to study for tests and exams. His lectures are long and he reads off of the slides. I honestly have never fell any class at all and the lowest grade that I have gotten is B. This is a very hard class.
It is a pity that I couldn't take him for Physiology in the coming spring. Personally, he did an amazing job of catering to his student during this pandemic. Anatomy is your career, you have to input your efforts and time into it. like he said in the lecture. Pls watch his video over and over again, you will do well in his class. Understand is key
I had him a few years back. The reason I am just now rating is due to the fact that I am about to graduate from my nursing program& have COUNTLESSLY referred back to the way he taught ANA as well as his class drawings(his notes even helped fellow nursing classmates) He's tough if you don't put in the effort, but by far the best prof. ive ever had!
Wouldn't recommend taking more than 3 classes if taking this class. A lot of time studying is needed. Don't think you can skip lectures then catch up, you will just be behind all the time. Grade is all test and quizzes. Little to no extra credit. Exams are very specific with trick questions(which is dumb) just be careful with that and really study.
Best Prof I've ever had. This guy knows his stuff, never looks at slides, but knows exactly what's on them. Assume EVERYTHING in slides will be on the exam. Exam Q's are word for word from slides. Read to understand, then MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. If lectures are recorded (video, or voice (in person)), you have the benefit of rewinding and transcribing.
Dr. Jeronimo Ribaya, is one of the great anatomy professors you can get. He teaches in a way for you to understand the material in an easy way. Doesn't assign homework but lecture and lab are going to occupy you for the rest of the semester. I would highly recommend taking anatomy during a semester because of how much information you are learning.
Literally does not give you enough time to think about your answers on the exam. He is not tech savvy so it makes everything that more stressful. Would not recommend this class at all.
Good professor took the 5 week course, but I recommend the 16 week, its to compact and he really doesn't get rid of any material, he literally try to squeeze everything in, not ideal. not enough time on the tests, answers questions during zoom meetings, does not actually teach during zoom meetings.
Amazing professor!! May come off strict but he sincerely cares about all his students and wants to help you succeed!! His lecture slides are exactly what he tests on so memorization is key!! Get ready to work for your grade but Dr. Ribaya is awesome he provided pop quizzes and lots of extra credit opportunities. A++ professor!!
Professor Ribaya is a great teacher knows his stuff, but be prepared to treat this class like a nursing school course for all you nursing majors out there. His tests for both lecture and lab are tough, but if you listen to his lecture, attend all his class and rewrite your notes, you'll be well rewarded. Don't be discouraged & try your best!
Just a heads up, Prof Ribaya expects you to review and read the material prior to attending his class. He is strict so make sure you commit to studying or you wont make it. His exams are hard but fair game. He cares about your success. He gives out pop quizzes w/out warning so again, STUDY! There's no homework other than completing lab manual work.
Dr. Ribaya is a great professor. His lectures are very clear and he gives hints of some of the things that will be on the tests. The only graded things in this class were the 10 quizzes, midterms, lab exams, and 3 discussions. This class itself is not easy so be ready to study and take notes. Overall, Dr. Ribaya makes this course fun.
Ribaya is great. He makes sure to include everything you need in his lectures. Everything you need to know for his exams is on the slides so be sure to study those!
Dr. Ribaya is one of the great professors at Rio. His lectures and lab videos are very thorough and helpful to watch and listen to. He's not boring at all. Be ready to study. This course is not a walk in the park. You have to put in the work. But Dr. Ribaya makes it possible to set you up for success.
He does not have a nursing background yet, he is teaching future nurses. Because he does not have the proper background, he does not make any connections that would be helpful in understanding content to those who are planning to go into the field. He is smart, but not the right professor for what it is required for this course.
Dr. Ribaya cares a lot for his students and wants them to succeed. He is a tough grader and has a lot to cover in lectures but this class does make you a better student. Participate as much as you can and use your critical thinking skills. Honestly you have to study and try your best in order to do well in this class. Would take his classes again.
Dr. Ribaya is awesome. He may be intimidating at first but he really cares about his students and wants you to pass. review lecture slides and your textbook if you have it. Focus on understanding and not just memorizing the material. gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and make sure you read ahead in lectures
Great instructor if you want to really know the ins and outs of Anatomy, he knows his stuff and doesn't believe in slacking off at any point, study hard and study well he will expect you to do well if you study everyday with his participation and pop quizzes in class. He is aware he is hard on you, but it is to make sure you know better for nursing
I want to start off with, Dr.Ribaya is an amazing professor. Doesn't run off track and ACTUALLY teaches compared to many. He makes teaching enjoyable and keep students engaged. PLEASE ATTEND LECTURE! If you miss one, let's just say you'll have a ton of catching up and teaching yourself. 10/10
Dr.Ribaya is an amazing professor. The reason people don't pass his class is due to the procrastination, this class is something you have to stay on top of. Overall, he does an amazing job at keeping student engaged and his style of teaching is like no other. 10/10 would take him for Physiology if he taught it :(
Felt like there was a lot of overexplaining in the videos for genetics. It makes the video boring and really easy to just zone out. Like why are we going over the phases of meiosis again in the second module... Quizzes are like 5 questions with 4 points each so there's like no room for error. Sometimes questions can be confusing. Proctorio used.
Dr. Ribaya by far the best teacher a Rio. He is very stern (but very fair) because he wants to help you learn and succeed with your future endeavors. As for the class it's not a total breeze, but with enough effort, it's more than manageable. Also NEVER go in blind! Study consistently! Walk into class as if your about to walk into the final exam.
He gives quizzes almost every class with each quiz being 6 questions worth 5 points each question. There are 4 midterms and a cumulative final. He does give extra credit quizzes sometimes and he offers 5 extra credit points for every 10 hours spent in the MSEC room which means a whole 10 hours would cover one wrong answer on a quiz.
Difficult subject and requires lots of study time. Dr. Ribaya class leads to success outside of the classroom. He understands the challenges in class; however, he inspires and motivates students to see the reward of accomplishing something challenging.
Very difficult class. Not strongly recommended unless wanting to somewhat prep for a 4-year course of the Principles of Genetics. Lectures are greatly detailed, however the questions from the exams and quizzes are way vast from what is learned in the lectures.
The class covers a lot of material, he covers all the material you'll be tested on. He is strict but very well organized, do your best to not miss class because you risk not understanding later. He starts on time and gives pop quizzes, so be on time. I definitely recommend this professor and would take more classes with him.
I just took this class for the summer&it went by extremely quick. Each week consisted of new lectures & labs. There are quizzes usually every week. You HAVE to try in this class, if you aren't the type of person to put in the work do not even bother taking it. Other than I learned alot in this class & would take any other class Ribaya is teaching.
Dr. Ribaya is a tough but fair professor who expects engagement. Stay on top of the material and you'll learn a lot. Unstuck AI was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend alongside the textbook.
"Eat, Sleep, Anatomy" J.Ribaya Beware of pop quizzes No study Guides!!! He is not easy but if you're used to fast-paced and heavy classes this is your professor. I recommend taking no other classes but if you got it like that go ahead.
Very inspiring and heavy lecture class. Be sure you prepare for the class. Tips: 1st: Be on time and always read before class cuz there will be quiz(s) before lecture. 2nd: Attend SI session, Tutoring center, and office hour, cuz you can ask questions relate to the lesson.
although the material and class is difficult, ribaya offered a no- BS approach to anatomy. this class is not easy- tons of material overloaded at all times. he doesnt have any homework, but tons of extra credit opportunities. despite his cold approach and sort of impolite manner of carrying himself, still a great professor who taught me alot
Pop quizzes, 4 midterms, and a cumulative 200 point 200 question 2 letter grade worth final exam. Dr Ribaya runs his class strictly but it teaches you how to be responsible. If you're a lazy studier, you're better off taking anatomy with another professor or not at all. Truly a chill guy
Taking this course with Prof Ribaya is definitely challenging. Would not recommend taking more than this course. EC opportunities are there but aren't fair at times. Pop quizzes 5 que ea. exactly at 8:00am on the dot, be late and you miss questions 2 pts ea. PS I am usually a straight A student so getting a C says a lot about the class. Challenging
