She makes class fun and intersting. Although she grades kind of hard.
She is cool and makes class fun
She is VERY nice and fun, grades VERY rough!
Very funny and such a nice person. She makes every class entertaining.
Fairly nice person, seems to take this GEN-ED class a bit too seriously. No A's.
She is a flake.
She is a ****, but she hides it well. She doesn't realize that this is a required entry level course, and she grades hard. Also I joined the class late and she wouldn't let me makeup anything. Take someone else, It is just easier that way.
Unsure about the whole personality thing. She doesn't grade that bad, be careful though.
I wouldn't recommend taking her at all. The first week or so she seems nice but once the speeches start all hell breaks loose. If you do everything she asks you will get a C(if you're lucky). She also favors older non-traditional students that have kids.
She is amazing. You will learn a lot from her and she is always willing to help. She has been one of the best professor I have ever had in the communications department.
She's a really nice woman and makes class interesting, but I wouldn't recommend taking her as she grades really tough! (I don't know if thats how all the com 115 teachers are??)
Seems fake some of the times. She smiles alot, but it's not out of kindness, it's a fake smile as she's talking. Get's really annoying. I'm talking 4-5 BIG fake smiles per minute.
She is very fun!! You have to work for your grade but getting an A is very possible! We even had a wedding reception party in our class for a newly married couple! This class was a blast and I learned alot!
She thinks she's hilarious and sometimes we laugh. Usually we just stare at her. She's not too bad of a grader if you put in the work but I think I can sum her up like this... She showed us a picture of Barry Bonds but DID NOT KNOW WHO HE WAS! Hello? She's a big ditz.
Very tough teacher. Not a fair grader at all. She doesn't give any A's. Even if you paid her, she'd tell you she'd give you and A, then she wouldn't and say she had her fingers crossed. She's mean at times, sometimes she thinks she's funny, but really she's not. Her class will bring down your GPA
EASY in IDS, but one guy in my class had her for COM also and said she had a split personality because she was nice in our IDS class, and I guess not so nice in COM. I would reccomend taking her IDS class- it was fun, and she let our class get away with a lot of crap.
If you do everything right on your speech you get a C. She gives quizzes a lot at the beginning but then they fade away. Boring class but it's important to go most of the time. Don't go when others give their speeches. Hard class. I recommend a different teacher. She also has a fake personality.

More interested in her family affairs than class.
For IDS she was great but I'm not sure about the horror stories of COM 115... you decide!
Other posts about her "fakeness" are dead on. She takes pride in bringing down GPA's I think. Her grading is very hard, and She holds the class to 55 after every day. Take someone else. She also talks to the class like we are all 10 years old.
She appears cute and fun at first, but under that exterior...watch out! She makes you think you'll be getting a good grade, but you must be pretty much perfect to do so. Tougher than she seems.
She was the best teacher I have had in a long time. She may be tough but she is the most helpful teacher I have had in a long time. Grading is tough, but just do a little more than what you are SUPPOSED to do then you should come out alright. Really good teacher.
she's a really tough teacher. nice, but tough, and a real stickler for keeping with the requirements set by the communications dept. she'll smile at you but she won't give you an inch in grading. i would take an easier teacher.

very easy for ids110 but for com115 she is very hard. She is a very funny teacher and makes class interesting but grades very hard and is the only com115 teacher i know that gives quizes over the material in the book. i got A's on all my speeches and still got a B in the class.
First day of class she said "there are very few A speakers in the WORLD" so unless you are a professional speaker you wont get As on the speechs. She always smiles but it seems evil to me
She is very easy and extremely nice. She is very willing to help you.
Mrs. Kyle is a very nice class, it's just difficult to teach a class that is a complete waste of time. As long as you show up to her class with a positive attitude you will get a good grade. All around a really good teacher.
This is a pretty hard class, but that's because of how the department sets up the grading. She's very nice and helpful. It's hard to get As on the speeches but she helps you improve and the quizzes and homework are very easy to boost your grade
The randomness of grading is mindboggling. I did every outline exactly the same and got wildly different grades on them. She does tell funny and not quite relevant stories...
Jerri Lynn provides a fun atmosphere, but you don't feel like you learn a lot. She is very sweet, but at little bit of an airhead. Don't pay any attention to the class syllabus it doesn't really exist.
While it seems like none of her COM 115 students cared too much for her, don't be scared to take her for an upper division COM class. She enjoys what she does and has great public relations advice and experience. While she can be unclear about assignments, you just have to take initiative and have her clear them up. Cancels class a lot.
She made me cry on three seperate occasions, and this is the ONLY class I got a B in this semester.
****! She makes you feel like you are in kindergarden. The work is rediculous. You never get out early. She repeats herself several times over. She thinks she is funny but she is far from it.
She played favorites and did not grade the same on everything. I did the exact same thing as another class member. they got an A and i got a C. She was rude to me and i would not reccomend her. She made the class harder than it should have been.
I hate this class and she didn't make it any better. She talked constantly about her family. Inconsistant about grading and unclear about why you actually get the grade you got. She's nice, but only a mediocre teacher teaching a lame subject that she seems to adore.
Come on guys, she is easy if you do three things #1) Suck up. you may not like it but it will get you the grade. #2) follow the book example exactly! #3) Have an opinion or at least fake a passion! It's not so bad if you are on her good side, but there is a good side that you need to be on
She is wonderful and really sweet!
sweet lady, funny, easiest class ever. take her as much as possible
She's really nice. Yes suck up but when it comes to communication she is interesting. Just be nice and participate in class. Just be a responisible student. I took her 2 times. A's
IDS is a pointless class but having Mrs. Kyle made it fun and made people actually want to show up to class.
I wanted to really like Mrs.Kyle but I just feel that she is very inconsistent. She seems to let her personal feelings affect her grading. I have never had an issue with public speaking, but she has graded me extremely hard and refused to discuss with me why. I do not recommend her.
Mrs. Kyle is VERY inconsistent. She will tell you in class that you did wonderfully on a speech, but then turn around and give you a very low grade. She is also VERY HARD to get ahold of or meet with outside of class. I have been trying to meet with her for a while now. She ignores me when I tell her I am worried about my grades.
I loved having Mrs. Kyle. She made a boring class fun. She is a really sweet lady who want everyone to succeed. She does grade somewhat tough, but it is only because she wants everyone to reach their full potential. I would really recommend her!
Jeri is TERRIBLE! She plays major favorites and can be a total _____ to those who think differently than herself. I wouldn't call her a teacher at all, she never helps you develop. She talks about her daughter a lot! I feel sorry for the poor little girl for having a parent like Jeri. I do not recommend Jeri, in fact, steer clear of her!
Ms. Kyle is a great teacher. Even though some might not like her that is their opinion. The class was fairly boring. However, she made it fun. Her quizzes are really easy; sometimes she even lets you do them as a class. I NEVER had a problem meeting with her after class. She was always there when I had questions.
She is very enthusiastic about teaching this class and always had a smile. She made this class alot better than alot of the other Com 115 teachers.
Loved her.. she is really over the top.. but if you work hard on your speeches and deliver them well she will give you a good grade.. Very easy.. I only went to class to turn in speeches and give them and still got a B.. if I would have gone every day I probably would have gotten an A.. DEFINITELY take her!.. She is so sweet!
AWESOME TEACHER!! she loves PR and loves students and is always helpful to her students. She is always enthusiastic about her work and her students. She is one the best teachers in COM and in the department. She is not an easy teacher or grader but you will learn a lot about PR.
Mrs. Kyle is a good teacher and covers the material well. However, she is extremely strict with grades and usually talks down to students like elementary kids instead of respecting them as college students.
Such a funny lady! Really enjoyed learning from her and her teaching styles is somewhat self taught but it works becuase you learn from others as well as her. She has your success in her best interest.
She did a really great job at teaching. It was a really simple class and a lot of fun.
She is a pretty funny lady who keeps class pretty laid back but make sure you read the chapters! Talks down to students as if they were elementary students and not college student. She grades mercilessly but class was pretty interesting.
Great Teacher! Super funny. COM 315 try and get summer intersession you will not regret it
Kyle is a great teacher and one of my favorites in the COM department. She is not hard just do your assignments and go to class. I don't think she plays favorites at all. She is also very funny. You get a lot of good experience in her class.
grades speeches pretty hard, but not really a bad teacher.
She is a really nice lady, but grades wayyy to hard for an introductory speech class. I practiced and practiced, but I always got the same thing, a B-. Not helpful in telling you what you need to improve on. Tells you what you did right, so you dont know what to fix.
She is an EXTREMELY nice woman. She genuinely cares about all of her students and doesn't favor. She is a somewhat tough grader. You have quizzes sometimes over the chapters in the book, but around half were open book. Doesn't really say what was wrong with speeches so you don't know where to improve, but she will talk with you about it.
Mrs. Kyle is a genuinely sweet hearted woman who makes class interesting to go to. However, she give 10 point quizzes throughout the semester which could put a damper on your grade if you don't read the chapters. Her grading is tough, but if your happy with a B I would recommend this professor.
Ms. Kyle is an amazing professor. I will say she is not the easiest professor in the world, but she helps you extremely well. She grades tough on the speeches, but it always fair when doing so. In other words you get the grade you deserve. She will do anything to help you. If you read the book you will do fine on the quizzes. Take her if you can!
She is one of the nicest teachers I have ever met. Her classes are always interesting and fun. She grades speeches tough, but you get the grade you deserve. Practice and read your book and you will be alright.
Mrs. Kyle is a pretty nice and fun teacher but don't be fooled. She definitely forgots that she's grading some people who have NEVER done anything prior to this speech class. However, doesn't really care. She's kind of helpful but overall if you're not good at speeches. I wouldn't take it. RARELY hands out any A's.
Shes awesome! Not hard class is short and never very boring, tough grader on speeches but worth the effort
Mrs. Kyle was super helpful to me all semester. She is a lot of fun and tries to make speech class a lot less agonizing. She isn't an easy A but you will learn a lot from her!
She's extremely nice and funny, but sometimes forgets that COM 115 is a required class. Doesn't grade extremely easily on quizzes, but is somewhat lenient on speeches. The quizzes were really hard sometimes, too. Her policies can be a little harsh though
She is one of the most USEFUL professors ever. Crystal clear works and will make you fall in love with the class. I would take her class for the rest of the college if i have to. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Funny and a good teacher but expects a lot. Lots of chapter quizzes so always read. Overall pretty fun class but not an easy A.
When she grades speeches, I don't think she's very fair. A student who did a really good job got a C when another student who did an awful job got an A! I have A LOT of speech experience, I was in debate in high school, and I NEVER got an A on a speech!!! Nice lady, just a difficult grader.
This class is pretty difficult. The quizes over each chapter are very detailed. Even if you read the chapters there is no way you can get better than an 8/10 and don't be surprised to receive 2 or 3 out of 10 either. The quizzes really bring your grade down. I did enjoy the networking notebook which will help the grade a lot and is needed.
She likes to share her (funny) stories and experiences during class. Sometimes she baked for the class. Didn't use the textbook at all, but make sure you do read the textbook for exams/tests/quizzes and practice for those 4 speeches. She is somehow available during her office hours, so feel free to stop-by and ask her stuff you ain't sure about.
I had her for COM 309 and it was my favorite class ever! She is a hilarious teacher who keeps your attention throughout the class. She wants her students to succeed and she is an inspiring person! For all you Parks and Rec fans, she is sort of the real-world Leslie Knope. She expects you to try hard and she recognizes hard work.
If you are a dedicated student and you are respectful of due dates then it is extremely possible to get an A is this class. Make sure to come to class because participation is a big part of the grade. Just show up and do what you're supposed to and she's great!
Miss kyle, is very professional and nice lady. Show her that you care, then you will be fine.
Way too overrated. People love her because she tries to be funny, but honestly she just picks favorites and is a little over the top. Often just forget certain assignments are due then reminds the class the day before. A lot of group work.
She always tries to make her class interesting, but really bad organizer. Small assignments racking detailed information are so annoying. Ans she explains the reason why she always gives us minimum information is because it's reflecting the real world. And you'll get only half points on your assignment because of that!
She is a great teacher. She worked with me the whole semester and definitely cares about her students passing her class. She is someone I would definitely recommend taking.
JLK is great. She's a tough grader but she clearly lays out what she expects from you so as long as you do that, you'll be just fine. Although I'm getting a B in what should be an easy A, I still love her class because her personality is just so fun and approachable.
JLK is by far my favorite professor at Missouri State. She's super sweet, genuinely cares about her students, and knows what she is talking about. She's definitely someone to know if you go to MSU. She's also just perky, funny, and will make you feel at home if you respect her.
Somewhat hard grader on the speeches because she grades off of your improvement and not comparing you to the rest of the class. The online chapter reading quizzes are what hurt my grade.
Good teacher and fun to listen to. Takes a long time getting grades in the grade book which can be a frustrating. But overall, she is a sweetheart who knows her stuff and is passionate about the area of Public Relations
Okay, so here's the deal on JLK. She's a funny, sweet, lady. HOWEVER -- if you're taking a full load (18 hours) do not try to fit this class into your schedule. There's a lot of deadlines, and the class is worth 1000 points so there is a lot of little assignments that are easy to forget about. Overall, she is a pretty easy grader.
JLK is amazing. You can't go wrong taking her course.
Completely unorganized. Assigns more assignments than she can keep track of. Gives almost no direction on assignments. Wouldn't take again
She is the "Mom" of GEP 101. This can be good because class is always upbeat, but bad because she likes busy work. She is also a COM 115 teacher so she likes group presentation and speeches. Do 4 extra hours of community service and you don't have to take the final though!
She is probably one of my favorite professors that I have taken in my whole college career. She is so knowledgeable, yet so funny. She wants you to enjoy class, not dread it. Do your work, and have fun!
She is very sweet and will be your second mom, aunt or crazy lady if you need her to be. She's fun and helpful and there for you. But this is a beginning speech class and it's tough. Lots of reading. Lots of quizzes and lots of writing for speech outlines. But most speech classes are the same it's the teacher who makes it bearable. I would take her over others from what my friends have had. But don't take this if you have 15+ hours. It's a lot of work. Especially if you are taking it as a beginner freshman. Wait for second semester once you get a hold of things.
JLK is super sweet and funny, in fact her class was my favorite to go to. She demands respect while maintaining a warm environment. Although, she gives very little directions for tests, outlines, and quizzes.
She comes off as a very caring and nice teacher, but as the semester goes on she starts to slip up. Often forgets about quizzes and nothing is truly learned in the class. Also she's an EXTREMELY hard grader. Students would do very well and recivie an C on a speech. Wouldn't recommend.
JLK was a fine professor. Just show up, do your homework and you'll receive an A. Opt out of the final with four extra volunteer hours. Textbook required but it's mostly a common sense course.
JLK is very passive aggressive in the classroom. At first she seems nice but over the course of the semester you will not enjoy her.
JLK can be really funny and entertaining, but her arrogance can be really distracting in the classroom. She seems to think pretty highly of herself, and the class sometimes feels more like "JLK 115" instead of COM 115. Her teaching is okay overall, I just don't mesh well with her personality. You could do worse, but I wouldn't recommend her.
JLK is the most inspirational professor I've at at Missouri State. She truly cares about her students and their success IF they put in the effort. Make sure to show her that you're trying and that you care. You'll get out of your classes what you put into them.
JLK is extremely energetic and passionate about PR, which made this 3 hour night class go by a bit faster than one would expect. Overall, not too many complaints. Just show up and have your work done and ready and you'll get along fine!
One of the best teacher's I've ever had here. She is the most caring professor that I've had.
My favorite teacher at Missouri State. I've never written a review on here before and I am writing this one just to say how GREAT JLK is! Take her class, try hard, and enjoy the benefits of having an amazing woman have your back and care about how you are as a person, not just a student.
I LOVE HER. She made my 3 hour night class so fun. She is hilarious and tells great stories. I literally gave the worst speech of my life but still got an A. If you have good classmates, she'll love you guys (and bring treats too).
She is very funny and makes class fun, though she sometimes drags class out longer than necessary by making up improv ideas. She is a fairly tough grader when it comes to speeches, but she does truly care and works with you.
JLK is a good choice but she expects you to stay on top of your own work. If you miss any class at all then you will not receive a good grade. Lots of busy work that counts towards point. She definitely cares a lot and tries to be friends with everyone. This is the teacher to get for GEP because some of the other teachers give out a lot more work.
Very outgoing. Tough grader when it comes to speeches, but homework is graded easily. Only two tests (midterm and final) so hard to know what to expect/study. Hopefully you end up with enjoyable classmates- that makes it a lot easier. :-)
Tests can be hard because most of class will just be JLK speaking about anything and everything (which is better than a generic lecture). Guaranteed at least a B+ if you go to class 90% of the time and compliment JLK once a week. No need to ever study except 2 hours before test - most of points come from attendance discussions/participation
She is very funny & she really seems to care about her students. She likes to make jokes at her students expense so if you're super sensitive, don't take this class. There are MUCH easier COM115 professors. Many people would give great speeches, but then get C's even if they met all of the criteria. A lot of hard-line quizzes also. Take it online!
She is a very mom like teacher that cares about her students. There is a textbook for the class, but I honestly wouldn't recommend buying it because it wasn't used much and most of it is common sense. She does a lot of group activities throughout the course. She does not take into consideration that some people need help and have a fear of speaking
I've taken two classes with her and she's always been sweet. Her expectations are very clear, she's easy to listen to, and she's a really good cheerleader for her students. She is widely respected and adored in the COM department and I think everyone should take a class with her if they can. She is really good for 309 if you're still feeling out PR
JLK is a very fun teacher. Shes can get a little off topic but always gets back on track. Most of the time she works with students if they need arrangements or help. Sometimes she isnt always clear on her directions in class, but in her rubrics she has clear guidelines.
JLK is seriously one of the best instructors in the communication department! COM 309 is a great class for PR and communication majors. You work on a digital media kit project during the semester and get to take some social media certifications. The class also covers the latest PR stories! JLK cares a lot about her students and you will love her!
I really do not like her grading style. She will tell you that you did a great job, but conflicts that with taking off points for the most meaningless stuff. She's not clear in what she wants from you either. There's not much you can do about it unfortunately. Jerri Lynn is however a great lecturer, and all of her classes are engaging and fun.
JLK is the absolute best! She always has coffee in her office, so go to her office hours not only if you need help, but also to chat. Principles of PR may feel dull, but she makes it fun and always comes to class with energy. She is by far my favorite professor on campus and is one of the main reasons I am getting through college.
Be prepared to spend at least 7-12 hours a week on this class. Tons of pointless assignments that take 8 hours (fr) to complete and you aren't told about them until two days before. Lectures don't match the material. Tests are hard & aren't discussed in class & worth so much. Spent 4 weeks talking about how "useful" a communications degree is.
Gr8 person awful class. 2 many assignments that take forever to complete. never told until 2 days b4. never answers emails. midterm & final extremely hard 4 no reason. 5 point attendance each class. hyper specific quizzes. lectures were boring and didn't ever match the material. Way too hard for a principles com class.
JLK is the best! Her cool factor is through the roof! I learned more than I ever thought I would in Principles of PR. I even still use some of it for personal, school, and work!
JLK is such a caring professor and wants to convey that she is there to support you! However, there is a lot of busy work and the lectures can get a little dull. Yet, I've heard some GEP professors give more work than her. The book is free online and you will be quizzed on it. If you go to class and do your work, you should get at least an A-.
I really liked her. She did too much sometimes with the online assignments, but all of the assignments led up and helped us with our final assignment. She was pretty funny and laid back, but it was kind of awkward because she would ask us questions, and no one would respond. By the end of the semester, we all became close.
She is such an awesome teacher for this class. shes so funny and makes the information easy to understand and super intertaing. you do really need to keep track of quiz dead lines becuase she doesnt talk about them and they are due before the class starts. CANT MISS CLASS bcecuase half the assignments you do in class and she doesnt post about it
She is firm, but very friendly and extremely genuine. She sincerely wants all of her students to succeed and loves to hear questions and feedback. What you put into her class is what you will get in return from her as a professor. Highly recommend, give her a shot!
