I look forward to Jerrods class everyday. Hes a great professor and makes sure we understand the topics clearly and he is very understanding. Additionally, he is a very down to Earth guy. He doesnt act like a know-it-all and he doesnt expect you to come in as experts already.
A little goofy but very passionate about what he is teaching. If you go to class and can figure out the math you're good to go. Also get a note card for exams so, like, that's chill!
Prefers being called Jerrod, great teacher, willing to work with anyone struggling with material
Participation is based on actually being in class and sometimes requires participating in daily 1 question quizzes or exercises. HW's are 10 ques. that are easy if you read the reading provided/pay attention in class. Stays after class if help is needed and offers many opportunities for extra credit. Tests are fairly easy w/bonus on each test.
Interesting lecturer, gives fair exams and assignments with lots of extra credit opportunity. Makes it easy to do well as long as you attend class and take notes.
Jerrod is a really nice guy that loves what he's teaching! He definitely expects you to know the material, but he provides every resource possible to help you! Sometimes does in class quizzes on the homeworks for attendance grades, and make sure to turn in homework on time unless you were excused cause he's a stickler! 8.5/10, would def recommend.
This class is one of few that I have actually enjoyed attending in my college career. Jerrod is a great professor and he knows his stuff, he comes to class and has a great sense of humor. Attendance is necessary to do well, and a lot of bonus is available to help your grade. Would 100% take his class again.
quirky guy. fair and fun. serious when necessary. quizzes on the homework assignments. they aren't really pop quizzes, just know that after a homework there will be a quiz on it the next day.
Tests are very easy. If you show up you will get an A in the class. Moodle quizzes once or twice a week.
Great professor, really easy to work with and follow during lecture. Its up to you whether or not you do well in this class. Everything is laid out clearly for you and he is very helpful if needed. Highly recommend Jerrod as a teacher. One of the best Ive had at LSU.
Dr. Penn is a new professor at LSU and gave us the opportunity to receive extra credit for this review since he currently has none. So timing worked out for me. Honestly though he is a great lecturer, and interactive in his lecture. In his class you get the grade you deserve, if you show up to ever class and are a good student you should get an A.
Go to class even though attendance isn't mandatory. Ask for as much help as you can.
Great class and plenty of material is available online to help assist with lectures and practicing math! Great professor and very enthusiastic. The class is interactive too and this is part of your participation grade.
Attendance is not mandatory, but you should go to class. He's a pretty guy just confusing sometimes. He skips around and loses track of his thoughts sometimes. Overall, a decent teacher and person.
He gives you everything you need to succeed on the homework and tests. Nothing is a surprise. He works out examples in class that are exactly like the homework. There are multiple bonus opportunities for each test and he drops two of the lowest homework grades. It is easy to make a good grade if you go to class.
He is a great professor! Go to class and pay attention and you will pass. He gives you everything you will need to pass. He works through examples during class that are very similar to the homework. He gives opportunities for extra credit and drops the two lowest homework grades.
Jerrod penn is a great professor. He loves economics and knows what he is talking about. Long as you go to class and listen its not hard to pass.
nice guy
Penn is very passionate about his subject matter and about driving home the main points of the course. He is really firm about deadlines and grading, but offers a lot of help along the way and is approachable.
He's a little stuck up but means well.
Easy if you go to class and pay attention. Skip class and you will probably have a tough time. He is a genuine guy and very respectful.
Knowledgeable about the subject matter. If you go to class you will learn. Gives a lot of bonus opportunities.
Great professor, does talk very fast during lectures but will slow down if you ask him to. Definitely go to class or notes and homework will be very confusing and hard to learn on your own.
Jerrod is great professor who really cares about the topics in this course. His lectures are easy to follow. He uploads worksheets to help students follow along with math problems that he does in class, which is super helpful. He makes the course material easy to understand and is willing to help you if you ask.
A very good professor that cares about students. Test are straight forward and you have one paper/project that is not very hard. Go to class.
You will have to write a policy brief, but the sooner you work on it the better.
Jerrod is a very great person and cares about you learning the material. Really accessible 24/7. This class helped students solve for real life problems centered around market failures. He gave great real life examples and gave lots of resources to succeed in this class. The Jeopardy review game was really cool. LSU is lucky to have you.
Great teacher and really cares about his students. Make sure you attend class!
Pretty good professor. Takes his job a little too seriously sometimes but the class is interesting if you like Econ.
Great professor. Encourages you to study and keep up with the class. Good bit of homework though. The class is pretty interesting.
If you pay attention you will pass
Gives in-class assignments related to the homeworks as attendance grades. Sometimes goes quick during the lectures, but he posts majority of his slideshows on Moodle. Pay close attention to his directions for all assignments; he seems slightly meticulous.
Professor Penn is an interesting guy. He makes the class very interesting with how well he explains economic policy. He can get pretty picky about how he wants certain things done in class. Overall a great guy.
Professor Penn is a good professor, and he genuinely wants his students to leave with the knowledge he teaches. I learned a lot in his class. The homework readings were long and kinda difficult to understand, but they are a good way to prepare for the test. I suggest going to class because he explains the topics well and he does attendance quizzes.
Professor Penn is good if you enjoy economics. He is very considerate of other things you may have going on but don't think you can slack off in his class because you will get behind. If you want a good grade, you have to work for it. His tests can be pretty difficult if you do not fully understand the information, especially the math part.
Easy class if you study for quizzes. Be ready to participate in class and have fun! Excellent professor
Easy class, very interactive. Also found this class helps in other classes of same or similar topics. Dr. Penn is a good professor makes learning fun. Make sure you go to class and participate. Only negative review I have regarding this class is he refuses to give an A+ but will give A- or even a B+. Never understood that, but overall a great class
By far my favorite professor at LSU. While his tests were a bit difficult, if you study, then there's no reason you shouldn't do well. He also offers tons of extra credit for the exams. He is very goofy and always makes class interesting, which helps to better understand the topics he covers.
Really chill and caring professor. Easily accessible outside of class and is super willing to help if you're not understanding the material. Attendance is required but I enjoyed most of his lectures. Study guides are EXTREMELY reflective of the exams but you need to truly understand the concepts, super easy math. One paper required, not hard.
I love Dr. Jerrod! He's very caring towards his students and loves what he teaches. He is understanding, but he will hold you accountable and excepts you to be responsible. He is very prompt. He has extra credit opportunities for every test and will give you an opportunity to earn points back if he deems necessary. Pay attention, you'll do great!
Homework at least once a week, but it's not hard. Pay attention in class, write down how to work out the problems, and once you get the study guide, try to understand and apply all the concepts because it is very reflective of the exam. Dr. Penn is really caring/understanding and wants what's best for his students. Very open minded. Easy class.
Dr. Penn's class was not easy, but it isn't hard either if you pay attention. He very clearly explains his expectations, and he will hold you to them. He is always organized, lectures well, and clearly emphasizes important information. He was always willing to answer questions and help out. Pay attention and do what he asks, and you'll do fine.
Dr. Penn is very serious. He can be caring about his students and get more on their level which is nice, but he does take his job seriously and sometimes a little too seriously in my opinion. He will expect a lot of you and expect you to be responsible. Pay attention and learn the material.
Very fair. lots of homework and notes. Not overly hard but must pay attention and go to class. A proffesor id take again!
Jerrod Penn is a really nice professor and does a pretty good job explaining the material. His class can be quite interesting, but there can be a lot of work involved, such as homework due nearly every class period.
I have never taken a class with better structure. Professor Penn describes material in a very understandable manner and is very thorough. Be prepared to actively listen to lectures because he may call on you for an answer. If you go to class, pay attention and take decent notes then it will be an enjoyable course with a good grade.
Dr. Penn has definitely been my favorite econ professor so far. Attendance and participation are important, but you do have a few days you're allowed to be absent with no excuse. He really knows how to give good examples, and he's always available to email for questions (he responds pretty fast too!). The workload isn't too much either
Dr. Penn is a good teacher. He is pretty serious about his work and wants you to be the as well. Show up to class, take notes and you will pass.
Dr. Penn puts in a lot of work to make sure his students understand and succeed in Ag economics. If you go to class and do your assignments you will easily pick up on the material. This class is not hard as long as you put in the effort. I would 10/10 recommend anyone to take his class if given the opportunity.
Know how to do the math problems, it is a big portion of the exams. He does like students to come to class and counts attendance for a grade. He is a really great teacher and I would 100% take him again if I could.
Great teacher, a LSU gem. The AGEC department is lucky to have him.
Very fair. Obviously cares about students and subject matter. Penn is one of the best professors I have had at LSU.
Dr. Penn is a great professor & perhaps LSU's most caring. I've never met a professor who loves & cares about his job & students more. The only con I can think of is the speed at which he lectures. He likes to talk about other topics &sometimes it runs his time up, causing him to rush through the math examples. He is great though! Take him!
Dr. Penn ->> Great guy. Easy class. Gives bookoo bonus points.
Amazing teacher who loves teaching. And makes the difficult content bearable.
Dr. Penn is a phenomenal professor who cares about you as an individual. His teaching style is very thorough, and he will make sure the students understand the material before he moves on.
One of the best Ag. Economic teachers I have taken through my years at LSU. Very caring approachable guy that does not mind helping with anything you ask for. Gives a lot of bonus points which is always nice.
The class seems to be tailored around his schedule. Some days are online, others in person. The class itself is structured, but he cannot be. He is laid back and flexible. Some of the class seem that he is flexing about his personal matters.
Professor Penn was by far one of the best professors I have had the pleasure to take at LSU. He is thorough with his explanations of concepts and is very interactive with the class! He keeps class entertaining and makes sure to assign just the right amount of work to prepare you with exams.
Great Professor, really cares about teaching you and making sure you learn the material. Prepares you for life outside of school with Finance Fridays. Gives a lot of Extra Credit.
Good professor who actually teaches material rather than giving busy work. All assignments are a learning opportunity and if you actually do them you are basically guaranteed a B.
Always looking to make the class better. Easy to talk to and participate in class with. Presents material in a meaningful way.
Good guy, but tries too hard. Class is super easy, but you will hate going to class. He reads straight off a PP and rushes through math problems. Class is hybrid, Fridays are on zoom because he said he doesn't want to drive to campus and stay with his wife. Didn't think it was possible, but this class is organized and unorganized at the same time.
Professor penn is really easy if you attend the classes. Attendance is mandatory and helps out a lot. He gives you an exam study guide for exams and he does a lot of practice problems throughout he lectures. Very easy class and teacher.
A great professor who really cares about your success. Does fun Financial Fridays, where he gives tips on personal financial topics such as credit cards and investment accounts. Attendance is mandatory but going to class really helps to pass the class.
Dr. Penn is the best professor for Ag Economics at LSU. He cares a lot about students and responds to emails extremely fast. You will learn about personal finance as bonus points for exams. Experts would come to class to give presentations on topics related to class, good networking opportunity!!
Dr. Penn makes this class very interesting and he truly cares about his students, he is a great instructor.
Dr. Penn is a great teacher. He is very engaging and passionate as he teaches. As long as you go to class you will understand the material because he teaches very clearly. He also gives a lot of grace through bonus points. Even if you are not originally interested in natural resources economics you will probably leave interested.
Dr. Penn is a great professor at LSU. One of the best in my three years at LSU and in the Agriculture department. Go to class and study for test and you will do fine
Dr. Penn expresses his enthusiasm for neat concepts and riles it in his students. He's a good guy, smart as a whip, and most importantly, he effectively communicates pretty tough concepts and math for entry level AGEC students.
Earnest professor who wants you to learn. A little shaky, but he has good energu
Pay attention during lectures, they will help with exams!
Material can be difficult, but if u go to class u will be alright. Just participate & pay attention. Jerrod cares about his class & the grades so put forth the effort. He has exam reviews that are beneficial, however he has his TA post a video review of the math that unfortunately is not helpful. She is hard to understand & writing is not legible.
He's an amazing professor and caring individual whose most important goal is to make sure we succeed as students. I highly admire his enthusiasm and passion for economics and helping students. If you take professor Penn you will learn tremendously about economics and have lots of fun as hard as that is to think.
I highly encourage you to take this class. As an ag econ major this class has helped me tremendously in economics classes. Professor Penn makes the classes supper interesting.
Highly recommend this class. I took it completely online once a week and it was so interesting and fun. Weekly quizzes and online classes, just make sure to review the slides and attend the weekly class.
Professor was very willing and flexible to help me make up missed assignments after missing class.
The most practical and useful class I've ever taken at LSU and I'm nearly finished with my bachelor's. Dr. Penn did a great job of explaining the material and was always open to feedback, and questions, and was always helpful. Definitely recommend.
Professor Jerrod is a great professor! I enjoyed his lectures and he's very polite towards everyone. This is not a hard class as professor Jerrod teaches very well, however, if you don't attend his classes you will not be able to do good on the test or homework quizzes. Overall, He is a great professor!
Dr. Penn is very clear about what you need to do to be successful in his class. He used lots of handouts during lectures. MAKE SURE you print the handout and bring them to class and you will be successful.
This class and Professor Penn were really great. I enjoyed learning the material and Professor Penn laid everything out so well that it was easy to understand. Definitely go to class especially when he is doing the material that will be for homework to make your life easier.
Dr. Penn is a very good professor and is always open to help students go further on their personal finances knowledge. I am an international student, so it was very helpful to learn more about credit scores, investing, mortgages, credit cards, etc. It has been a very interesting class, with a lot of extra materials, if you need.
If you follow the syllabus and attend the classes you will do fine. It would be a very easy class if the class were not on Friday's
His class is very easy to make an A in as long as you can stick with going to class on fridays.
As long as you attend class, you will be able to make a good grade in this class.
The class wasn't hard, but I just never could make myself remember that I had a zoom class for one hour on Friday afternoon. Without participation grade you'll will not do well.
You need to go to class and pay attention, but the material is pretty easy and he teaches it well. There is a lot of homework, which helps your total grade, and the exams aren't too hard if you pay attention and review the material.
Dr. Penn is a great professor. He has very clear expectations and wants students to succeed. Go to class, do the homework with the goal of comprehending (not just finishing it), and understand everything on the practice exams and you will do fine in the class.
Great professor, if you dive into his material you will find it very interesting which will help tremendously
Dr. Penn is a great professor. He knows what he is talking about, is passionate which makes his lectures engaging, and explains concepts clearly. The class will be harder if you do not attend, he posts the slides and recorded class lectures but you get more from actually being in class. Would love to take another one of his classes.
I like how straightforward his class is structured. There are no surprises when it comes to test, everything he says will be on it is on it. He is also good at using lots of different examples from past and current economic issues.
This course was okay, attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade. There were 3 exams and they were weighted very heavily. Homework about every week and one project. Easy grader and he really cares about his students, but the material itself was just hard for me.
Jerrod Penn is a great professor, his teaching is clear and concise and I almost never felt confused and material that I missed was easily accessible. Listening is important as is class participation also pay attention to grading criteria on assignments like the policy brief.
He will do anything to make sure that you understand the material.
Professor Penn is great and teaches exactly what you need from this class! Attendance isn't necessary but there is a quiz given at the beginning of each class.
Professor Penn obviously cares about what he is teaching and wants his students to learn. As long as you go to class, participate, and study you will do well in this class. It is a Jeopardy-style class, which is different but very fun and keeps you engaged.
I highly recommend this class. The class is almost like the Jeopardy game, where you learn 30 vocabulary words weekly and take a quiz the following week.
Good guy who knows what he's talking about and tries to explain it so everyone understands. The only reason I dislike this class is because he cold calls and attendance is required. The HW is pretty easy and he gives you the textbook for free. Test study guides aren't very good though, difficult to gauge what you need to know for the exam.
Excellent professor who cares about the material he teaches. Class is important for the tests and the lectures are recorded so you can review.
Dr. Penn is one of the best instructors at the Agricultural Department. It's hard to get lost in his class because he conveys instructions very clearly and helps if you are misunderstanding material. I would definitely recommend taking him if given the chance.
Good teacher and very enthusiastic about the material. Teaches well and is easy to understand. Be ready to answer questions in class. Test are easy if you study. The math portion is easy if practiced.
He is a good communicator but I felt that the math material was taught very quickly and I struggled since I am bad at math.
Jerrod Penn was an excellent professor to have in my spring 2024 semester. I have had him for two classes, his 3503 course and his 2700 course. Penn is inspiring in the class room as he is passionate with his work, and cares for the students overall well being and is overall lenient with grades (when asked how to fix it). I would 100% take again.
Class was in person Monday/Wednesday but online on Fridays. Quizzes and Homework's are easy A's. Good Professor and he will respond to emails. Hard to figure out what to study for the exams, but the math was easy if you pay attention in class, but the math didn't determine your grade. I didn't do very good on the exams and still passed.
Dr. Penn is a good professor who takes the time to help you if you ask. It is easy to get behind in his class because it moves at a relatively fast pace. Do not rely on the study guide for exams. If you stay on top of the work you will be fine.
Very helpful and easy to learn material. Accepting to questions and will gladly help you if needed.
Dr. Penn is very enthusiastic about his job aside from teaching, and uses his knowledge from outside of class to give helpful real-world examples. The homework load can be slightly heavy, but his study guides are pretty good reflections of the exams. Required book was free but you can get by without using it.
Dr. Penn is an amazing professor and a very smart individual. He cares a lot about the course materials and your success within the class. You are not required to buy a textbook either so that is nice. His exams could be a little challenging, but if you show up to class and try on the homeworks, you should be fine. He takes attendance occasionally.
Dr. Penn is a great professor, in my own opinion I think he can do better is study guides for test to make it a little bit easier to study all the content.
Loved Dr. Penn. Very structured class, you know whats expected at the beginning of the semester. Test are very clear of what has been reviewed in class. Readings help so much when preparing for test or just preparing for class that day. Would take him again.
Overall homework assignments and exam material were very straightforward. Exam study guides were built just like the in-person exams and homework assignments were based on in-class practice exercises. You can tell by his lecturing that he wants everyone to succeed.
It's an easy class if you do the homework and study the slides, PowerPoints, and handouts. The class material is really interesting, and the lectures are not dull. Go to class and get easy attendance points.
Take this course and actually go to class and you will pass easily. Lectures are enjoyable and material is simple if you are in class every day and fill out the handouts.
He was very understanding when you had an issue and would work with you to fix it.
He was a great professor! He gave extra credit opportunities and graded fairly!
JP holds a great lecture. He is a bit speedy when it comes to going over the math portion but all you have to do is speak up and he will go back over things. Very understanding to outside circumstances. Passionate about what he teaches.
JP was an awesome professor! Penn is very passionate about the subject and makes an effort to help students understand the more difficult topics. As long as you attend the lecture and ask questions, it's a super digestible class. Penn's one downside is that he WILL cold call during the in-person and virtual lectures. Otherwise he's great!
Homework is often, but easy and directly based on the lectures. Test reviews are good.
Jerrod Penn is a phenomenal professor, and cares deeply for each and every students well being. He was very informative and is passionate about the topics he teaches. I would highly suggest this course if you need more credits!
Professor Penn was fantastic, truly cares for each and every student and their well being. He was very informative and provided many sources of information if you wanted to look further into personal finance. Grades were easy and he provides many opportunities for a good grade!
Great professor who really cares about those he's teaching. Mostly online class with an in-person final. Graded on participation, weekly quizzes, and the final. Would definitely take this course and professor again.
This professor was very interesting and kept me hooked on the info. He records all of his lectures so that you can watch them later in case you didnt understand something or missed the class. His fridays are online which is nice and his examples are helpful
Amazing professor through and through: He provides the textbook work free, and there is no other extra paid software needed for his course (3503). He is excellent with his lectures and is speedy in his response to your emails. This was hands down my favorite professor at LSU.
He explains his material very clearly, posts his lectures online (though he does do attendance), and cares about his students succeeding in this course. He does sometimes "cold call" but it's not hard questions, if you remotely pay attention to what he's talking about, you will be fine. The homework and textboook are free on moodle. Overall 10/10
Professor Penn is a great teacher who is very passionate about what he teaches. This class was graded solely on quizzes from the material on the previous class, however he provides the slides and recordings so that you are able to go and review. A great class and I would highly recommend.
Dr. Penn is very knowledgeable and passionate about personal finance and wants to make sure you learn as much as possible about the topic throughout the class. He does his best to ensure you learn as much as possible so that you get a head start and know how to manage your finances and save and invest wisely.
Study!! Quiz every week, if you study your words you will be all good
Vocal quiz every week. Not too hard.
Dr. Penn is a great teacher and really cares and is very knowledgable. His class is as easy as the effort you put in.
This class was very easy so long as you study the material for around 30 minutes the day before the test. The class was also very ineractive.
Professor Penn does a great job at teaching us the vocabulary words that will be covered on each quiz. Every week there is a short quiz about the vocabulary words you learned last class period. Overall an easy class if you study the vocabulary for at least an hour a week.
It was one of my favorite classes this semester, he was great and kept class fun. The course isn't bad it's just a lot of information to memorize but once you get the hang of it, it's not bad at all. You knew what was happening each week and he is very clear on grading, I would take one of his courses again.
Professor Penn is a great lecturer - he explains the material clearly and posts recordings for review. The homework and textbook are free, and he's understanding of outside circumstances. For study prep, I found Unstuck study and the free resources on Moodle helpful alongside the lectures.
I really like the guy because he loves his job. I have taken him for a class before and it was ok. He will call on you and you should be ready, but it's no big deal if you don know the answer. HW every week. It is an informative course. I would not take this course. Why? because it is a 1 credit course and he acts like its a 3 credit course.
There is a quiz every week, so be prepared.
I really like Professor Jerrod's course content. Very applicable to day-to-day personal finance!
I have tried to email him multiple times and he literally just doesn't answer or seem to care to. He cares alot about what he teaches but moves way to quick and I feel like the topics he hits on aren't even on the quizzes. HW every week but it takes all of 5 minutes. If you do the HW it should be an easy A.
A great professor who genuinely cares about his students and their learning. The material is a little difficult because of info, case briefs, and the math section. 100% would take again just make sure to study hard for exams.
mid, wish he was more clear what should be studied for exams
This course was a breeze for me. Quizzes every week on the material we talked about the previous and it's all online. Professor Jerrod is a really nice and good teacher who knows what he's talking about.
Had a pretty rough semester and was unable to show up to class as much as I wanted. But he was always pretty fair about attendance/grading. The class was very easy as long as you showed up and did the work.
This class is not very difficult. The homework is very light and the there is only an 8-question test at the beginning of every class. With that being said it is very important that you attend every single zoom meeting as this is very dependent for your grade.
This is an extremely helpful class. I do believe it should be worth more than one credit hour, but the material is very helpful outside of an academic setting. Professor Penn was very clear about his expectations. Overall he is a chill guy who wants you to learn the material and gives you the tools to do so.
This is a very beneficial course. I believe it should be worth more than one credit hour, because the material is very helpful outside just class. Dr. Penn very clear about his expectations. Overall, he is pretty cool and wants you to learn and succeed, and he gives you the tools to do so.
Mr Penn is a great professor and is very involved and wants his students to succeed even outside of class. He wants his students to learn the material not because its just for the academic success but also to make good financial decisions in the future. There is limited assignments and only one quiz at the end of the semester.
Love J Penn as this is my second time having him in a class. Overall course is not bad, watch lectures and take note and the quizes aren't too bad, the only bad thing is the homework can be really confusing and sometimes wrong. GO TO CLASS ITS ONLINE ITS NOT HARD! I will say, dude loves this class, but I don't know if its worth the ONE credit hour.
He is incredibly helpful, clearly knows the material, and is very inclusive of everyone in class. Quizzes are straightforward and he gives you the opportunity to miss two. His games really help to retain the vocabulary and there is always a course pack if you miss a word during class. He is a great professor and overall a great person.
There is a weekly quiz with 30 terms (20 questions) and two cumulative quizzes for 1-150 and 151-300. If you genuinely study this course will be easy. This course contains knowledge that is found in many other courses for business majors. Highly recommended as He genuinely cares about students and their success
Its a free A or B as long as you go to class, participate, and study
Very easy going and easy class. Please learn from my mistakes and put in the tiniest bit of effort and you will do great.
