Jerrod expects his students to be respectful during lectures and his classes definitely make learning more fun! Intro to calculus can be challenging as the concepts are becoming more and more different from the "normal math" we know from high school. Jerrod is very patient, approachable, and knowledgable. I highly recommend this instructor!
Professor Smith is an amazing teacher. There is not much negativity that can be said about him except that his formal definitions of concepts are a bit confusing and could probably have been simplified better. Neat handwriting, answers all questions, plenty of examples, very accessible in and out of class. Would take again for another math class.
Jerrod was an awesome prof! I went into the class as a req for my degree, ready to get it out of the way and I enjoyed it so much that I'm now taking Calc II because I can! He turned calc into my favourite class, wasnt my best, mark wise, but the only course I looked forward to going to because of the professor and content.
Free online textbook & practice questions (w/ hints, answers & solutions) is a bonus tool to help you, but not needed if you understand. Was one of the best profs I've had in 3 years at UofC and the best math prof I've ever had. He does his best to make it understandable and help students. Tries to make it fun. Would take any class with him.
Professor Smith is a very inspiring lecturer. He often spends a long time, (with visual aids such as graphs) to explain new concepts and make sure everyone understands them. There aren't mandatory homework aside from the webwork assignments. However, if you want to do well in this course (which is relatively easy), do a lot of practice yourself.
Jerrod was a fantastic Professor! He was super helpful in his office hours. He has great energy and always made the class interesting. Good jokes. Good times.
Professor Jerrod Smith is tied for the best prof I've ever had at the University of Calgary. He is very helpful with topics you struggle with and is very flexible with accommodating your needs outside class and office hours. 10/10 would take his classes again. I hate MATH but I wish I had another MATH class just so I could take it with him again.
Tough class, but great prof!
Jerrod is a fantastic teacher who succeeds in making this heavy course material accessible for students while offering fantastic support with office hours and answering questions in lectures. I wish he was my prof for every class haha
Absolute beauty. Would sell my soul to have him teach all of my classes.
The best professor I have ever had even tho I am only in the first year. Dr Smith explains things well with examples in class and during office hours, he helped me a lot in this course! Lots of respect for him!
Such a boss! Makes calc easy and is super accessible. Also is super funny, just dont mess around on top hat lol. second misterm is hard af tho
Jerrod is the reason why I was able to complete both Math 211 and his class Math 249 in the same semester! He engages with the class heavily, remembers student's names, and really believes in your success as long as you put in effort. Make sure you go through all practice midterms and practice finals ASAP, so that he can help you with any issues!
I love Jerrod! He is full of energy and enthusiasm. Wants you to succeed. He makes math very simple and easy to understand. He surprisingly also takes the effort to learn names of students; considering there are 400+ students. Also DO NOT take this class if you don't like Taylor swift songs and Drake jokes. He loves to play music during class.
Jerrod is absolutely fantastic. Easily the best Math professor I've had so far at University. He deeply cares about his students and wants them to succeed. His office hours are great and is always willing to help out. He also plays Taylor Swift songs so that's another positive. :)
Jerrod is an amazing proff, really understands the content which is reflected in his amazing teaching. Really cares about his students as he tries to get to know as many names as he possibly can.
Phenomenal Professor! If you dislike Mathematics, this prof will change your mind. Caring, hilarious, and well informed on the subject. I would absolutely love to take another course with him.
Very detailed explanations in his lectures, super helpful. It will be harder to understand material if you don't attend lectures. He's super funny and he wants everyone to succeed.
Calculus is super difficult but Jerrod is the goat, best prof ive ever had. Lots of work but thats not due to the prof, just the nature of the course.
Loved having Jerrod! He's funny, enthusiastic and passionate in lectures, yet approachable and kind when you talk to him 1-on-1. Be warned, Calc 2 is a very challenging class but it helps a lot to have a prof like Jerrod teach it. Posts very well-written and clear notes that he writes during class time so it's clear what's going on. Recommended!
Dr. Smith is a super engaging prof who actively tries to keep lectures interesting with great enthusiasm, fun facts and music. Calc is not for everyone and Jarrod won't change that, but you don't have to be gifted at math to pass his class as his lectures are informative, his notes are very well organized and his exams are generally fair.
I only had Jerrod for half the semester as my original prof had taken ill. Jerrod was super energetic and extremely passionate about math. He was really good at answering questions thoroughly and being accessible in and out of lectures. He does have you do some exercises during the lecture, but you can work with others and ask him questions.
This was by far the hardest course I have had to take. That being said Jerrod is very passionate about math and his lectures are quite engaging. He has regular office hours, and honestly I was probably in his office every time. This course is hard but if you want to succeed and it shows, then Jerrod will do all he can to help you out.
Very passionate about the stuff he teaches and one of the most caring profs I've had. If you're struggling with this course, please go to his office hours, he will help you the best way he can as long as you let him know what you're not getting.
Honestly, if it wasn't for Jerrod, I'd be retaking this course in the fall lmao. Best prof ever. You can tell he really loves what he's doing and believe me when I say you'll find yourself loving the math too. Plays epic music in class during breaks. Tophats in lectures so try not to skip, easy 5%.
Great prof makes math so much easier to understand and makes it fun, always plays music and its a good atmosphere. Tests were fair and you were prepared very well.
Jerrod is a great guy. I felt like I didn't know anything throughout this course, and I went often went to his office hours. He's great at walking you through whatever questions you bring to him, and he really cares for the students. I wish I could take another course with him!
Amazing prof. He genuinely cares about his students. He is super nice and will go out of his way to help you, and really knows what he is talking about. He genuinely made me love math.
I MISS JERROD!!!! HE WAS SO GOOD!!! Best math prof ever!! He was super enthusiastic about everything and evidently enjoyed what he was teaching. Jerrod's lectures are very clear. Once you have him no math prof will ever compare :/
He is awesome. His instructions are very clear. Lecture notes are really helpful
Had a tough time at home because my father just got really sick. But his notes were absolute wonder that I only show up to tests and still get a great mark. Jerrod the GOAT
Dr. Smith somehow made math enjoyable, he always posts his completed lecture notes so if you're like me you can just listen in lecture and try to understand then go over his notes later if anything doesn't make sense. Great guy with a great sense of humour, would definitely take again!
Jerrod was the best prof I've ever had. I didn't like my prof in the section i was enrolled in so I started attending his lectures and continued to attend for the rest of the semester (waking up for the 8 am lecture was 100% worth it) Best prof you can get!!
Dr. Smith is a great instructor, but even better person. He genuinely cares about his students' success and that is evident in his detailed lecture notes, extremely helpful office hours, and high level of enthusiasm teaching everyday. Would 100% recommend taking a class with him, he makes math extremely easy to understand.
I took MATH 273 with Jerrod and oh my goodness that class was HARD. Easily twice as much work as any of my other classes. So be warned, it's LOADS of work. But Jerrod was a LIFESAVER!! He was so caring, learned everyone's names, and had splendid lecture notes. He had loads of office hours and was super helpful when you needed help. Best prof ever.
Despite being considered to be one of the toughest undergraduate mathematics courses, Jerrod gave countless resources and genuinely wanted his students to succeed. Despite all this, I wouldn't recommend the course to anyone who doesn't absolutely love more abstract maths.
well for starters, I did decent in math 30 (80's) but I have never worked harder in any class ive every taken before, and i still have to take it again. he is a nice guy, but the tests are quite hard even if you have studied and they don't curve anything. I felt that in order to get any question right you had to do every step right, tough class:(
Dr Smith is so caring, and very good at explaining tricky concepts in easy ways. He was always energetic in lecture, his office hours were extremely helpful and his midterms and final were generally very fair. I would HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Dr. Smith.
Jerrod is a fantastic prof !!! I had him in my first semester of my first year for an extremely difficult class, one with a ridiculously high fail rate. Jerrod is so caring and WANTS you to succeed. Hes extremely helpful in office hours and always wants to make sure you get it. Id love to take another class with him
Jerrod brings an enthusiastic and fun learning environment to the room. His fill-in-the-blank notes are great to print off because you can listen to what he's saying rather than scrambling to write everything down. He's super caring, putting in an effort to learn students names - and he's a super funny guy. 100% would take this prof in any course.
Jerrod is an amazing prof. I attended his lectures because I was struggling with my own prof and it helped me so much! He makes lectures fun by playing music and always showing up with a great attitude. He is caring and understands that students have a lot going on outside of classes. You need to pay attention in lectures to do well in this class!
he's strict but a great prof, will help you understand in the office and his notes are very clear. he doesn't post the notes online but his lectures are fairly entertaining and are very helpful
Easily the best prof I have ever had. You can tell he has a genuine passion for teaching. He treats students as individuals rather than just a herd of undergraduates. Super respectful and very good at making math simpler. I am definitely not the most dedicated student but didn't have a hard time attending and did a small amount of work to get a B+.
The BEST math prof in U of C! I've taken 2 math classes with him and had great experience. To be honest I wasn't in his class for Math 271, I was in Thi's class and I was for sure going to fail until I started attending Dr Smith's class. He's very caring and always willing to help you. His lectures are super enjoyable and very easy to understand.
He is well known. But his teaching style did not work with me. If you like a dynamic and exciting prof, he will be a great choice. However, I found his musics fairly distracting and his lectures hard to focus. He is very close with his students and will call you by your name. He is super nice and sweet. Overall, he is a great prof.
he is super nice and sweet. His office hours were extreme helpful. He is super excited and enthusiastic about math. His lectures were fun to attend and I will miss him as a prof. He will know you by your names and you can tell how much he loves and cares for his students by being in his class. One of the greatest prof and I will take him again.
He WILL and DOES do everything in his power to help you succeed without actually just altering your grades.
Professor Smith is a really great teacher. I struggle with math but his explanations really helped me to understand the content. He is super nice and always lets students ask questions. If you're not the best at math he is a perfect professor for you!
Professor Smith explained everything he did and provided extra information whenever someone was confused. He genuinely cares for his students success and makes math feel easy! (this coming from someone who finds it impossible) :)
I absolutely love this man. He is a phenomenal prof, his class is engaging and he himself is hilarious. This is my third class with Jerrod and he still holds such a strong characteristic to succeed. Easily my most favourite math prof.
Dr Smith hosted a weekly synchronous meetup where we went through harder, test-level questions. I've never had a teacher or professor who was so excited and enthusiastic about their subject, it was a joy to be in his class. He always answered questions and praised correct answers and interesting questions asked in class. Fantastic professor overall
The class was hard as a first-year course, Jerrod has amazing notes and practice questions. The homework will be easier if you can follow along with his lecture. Be sure to prepare yourself for A LOT of proving questions. Quizzes are easy, hard assignments.
I love love love Professor Smith. He's so caring and really takes time to explain all the work carefully. Super easy to understand his lectures and would definitely love to take his class again.
Honestly, this class was really difficult for me and there was a big learning curve right out of the gate. Despite this, I still passed! And I owe a huge part of that to how awesome Jerrod was! He has a super calm presence, explains and re-explains concepts very well, and is very obviously passionate about what he is teaching!
I had him for my online class this semester and he is so uninvolved in teaching the course that I did not even know that he was my professor. I thought my professor was the guy from YouTube. No help whatsoever and know I am screwed for the final.
He is the best professor I hv ever got. I would try to take him in as many courses as possible. He is really the real gem of a person.
I've had Jerrod as a prof multiple times and I can definitely say he is my favourite prof ever. He is quick with responding to emails and its obvious that he cares about the success and well being of students. Many science profs treat teaching as a chore and would rather do research but Jerrod seems to enjoy sharing his passion and love for math :)
Best uni prof I have seen so far. His lectures are fun, interactive, and he teaches stuff in a way that actually makes sense. The craziest part is he is active 24/7 on the d2l discussion boards for all the different types of problems and gives full explanations. Lots of practice and solutions on d2l. 10/10 course
The absolute best prof ever!! he is so kind and teaches in the best way possible. The class is hard but he is so willing to help and I really hope I get to take class from him again. He made waking up for an 8 am class everyday so worth it.
My favorite prof so far by a lot. Easygoing in lectures while still focusing on the subject at hand. Great at answering questions asked by students. Constantly gives you options out of lecture to get help with hard concepts. Held multiple midterm prep zoom calls to go over practice questions, which helped a lot. Hard class but he makes it easier.
He ain't it. Y'all be better off with a different prof
Best prof ever!! Notes were very clear and I understood every concept right away. Definitely take any math course with Jerrod!!
Jerrod makes the transition to calculus as intuitive as possible. I made a routine of printing his fill-in-the-blank notes before lecture. I didn't exactly understand the actual lecture, but I was tired and he starts at 8. His attitude is very contagious and he gives practice problems way harder than the tests (please practice anyways).
Dr. Smith knows most of his students by their first names. I think this point alone says enough about how great this prof is. Calculus is a very difficult course but Dr. Smith UNDERSTANDS this and teaches from the perspective of a student, not a mathematical genius which is key. He is so caring and is clearly very passionate about math.
Great teacher. Great person. Go to his lectures if you have this course. A lot of homework, but it's important to practice in math, and if you need any help he will always reply as quickly as he can (he uses d2l discussion posts a lot). Super energetic and loves his job, can possibly make you love math too.
If you have the opportunity to take a class with Dr. Smith I'd definitely recommend it. He made the class interesting and taught us everything we needed to know to succeed in exams.
Absolutely love Jerrod! I had him for Calculus which I really struggled with (failed both midterms and the final) but still managed to pass with a 62%. He really wants to see his students succeed and does all that he can to ensure it, I know from first-hand experience! Make sure to attend lectures and do the homework!!!
Jerrod was easily one of the best professors I ever had. MATH 273 is one of the most challenging first year courses at U of C, and I don't think it could have possibly been explained better. Very accessible and willing to help students as well. Try to take a class with this guy if possible.
Wonderful prof, definitely can see his passion for teaching math. He explains stuff well and is quite accessible outside the class. His outside-of-lecture videos were very informative and helped me understand a lot of concepts.
He is super energetic in his lectures its awesome!
Gives tons of resources to help you through the semester, almost too much but its better than nothing. He also just cares about what he's doing. I learned nothing from my Linear Algebra I teacher, but taking Linear Algebra II with Dr. Smith, I found myself investing a lot more time into a subject I don't really care for. Thank you for caring :)
Jerrod is definitely one of the best profs I have ever had. He clearly cares about all of his students. He would ALWAYS respond a question with "That's an excellent question". He was always super enthusiastic, made an effort to know everyone's name (even in a class of 150 students), and always super clear with content and intentions of the class.
Jerrod is the apex girlboss. Calculus is hard, but he makes it bearable. I honestly would not have passed if he wasn't my prof. He's extremely patient and easy to get a hold of. Great fill in notes provided - you can tell he actually cares about students passing and wants them to succeed. If I ever take a math lass again I'll pray he's teaching.
The fact that he's always in the running for teaching awards says enough. One of the best profs you'll ever have. Jerrod never fails to have your attention whether it's through classroom practice, jokes, or just going "AHH!!" when he makes a mistake or someone answers a question right. Truly one of kind, I wish he was my prof for everything
So much energy in a 9am class: no lecture was ever boring. You can tell he's passionate about teaching and really wants his students to succeed. Calc 2 is definitely hard, but I actually looked forward to the lectures. He knew everyone by name and was always friendly and welcoming. I'm not a math person at all,and I'd take another class with Jerrod.
First time we see him he has a head set with a mic. The first in person class he made lots of jokes. He is quite funny and is super easy going. He is super encouraging and easy to talk to.
He is so energetic and caring! He really cares about students, and replies to emails very quickly. Dr. Smith always cracked jokes in lecture, which was a nice break from the heavy math. The fill-in notes were excellent and always uploaded well before lecture, and the class was literally SO ORGANIZED. 11/10 recommend
Jerrod is by far my favorite professor. He's super enthusiastic when he teaches, and his notes are well organized. He answers emails pretty quickly and encourages students to ask lots of questions. I ALWAYS looked forward to going to class. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him, do it. Can't stress enough how great he is.
Jerrod is amazing. Goes out of his way to make everyone, even in 300+ person lectures, feel included in discussions. Answers questions with dignity and kindness towards the student, often exclaiming, "great question" or "I'm so glad you asked that!" Truly the hallmark of what it means to be both a fabulous professor and an all-around great human.
Dr. Smith is extremely passionate about math and you can tell that because of how enthusiastic and excited he sounds during his lectures. He always makes great class discussions and never misses an opportunity for a good joke. On top of that, he really does know his stuff and can make any complicated concept simple. What more could you ask for?
Dr. Smith is, perhaps, the best teacher I have ever come across. I found him to be accessible outside of class times and is incredibly kind and helpful. I plan on taking math options just so I can have him as my professor
I cannot say enough goo about jerrod. He has been by far the most amazing professor I have ever had. He is such a joy, and makes something as terrible as math fun. I always enjoyed, and looked forward to going to his lectures, even if they were at 8 am. I did far better than I thought I would, and it is absolutely because of his amazing teaching.
If you don't want to help yourself out then it's a good chance NO prof is going to be good for you. Dr Smith is always available, crazy funny, and works so hard to engage an entire lecture hall. I cannot say enough good things about him. Do your homework though, extensions are rare and deadlines are real. Series is a rough unit.
Jerrod is one if not the best professor! He is so compassionate and caring to his students and his lectures are always filled with humour! Definitely would take another class with him again. A true gem of a person!
Absolutely incredible prof in a course that was harder than hell
The best I have had here so far. Incredible prof who made this incredibly difficult material something manageable. Great lectures. Great TAs.
Very organized and very logical in his teaching methods. He's more focused on learning than testing which means if you show up and participate you will get a good grade and actually understand the material!
rock solid
Best teacher i've ever had. so awesome
1. Very organized. 2. Patient, and cares about his students. 3. His explanations are very clear and concise. The examples he provides are easy to understand. 4. replies to emails right away and his replies are very helpful. Conclusion: Best math prof.
hes the best
jerrod is such a slay he's my favourite prof ever
Smith is by far the best prof I have had this semester, great for an early morning class as well!
Jerrod is a good prof, I just suck at math. If I was good at math and had Jerrod as my prof I would be unstoppable. He gives you lots of extra resources which I found very helpful as I needed that. If you need to take a math class for your program take it with him.
Smith would benefit from having longer lectures, as the man is so crunched for time that he speeds through concepts and problems at lightning speed, making calculus confusing, not intuitive. He skips lots of steps in problems. Lecture notes very hard to follow. When asked for clarity he talks like an auction host and doesn't repeat himself.
Jerrod is clearly very knowledgeable and presents material in a very organized and productive way. He's down to Earth, kind and funny. He's one of the best profs I've ever had, couldn't ask for a better prof to teach introductory calculus. His music taste is a little all over the place tho.
Jerrod is an overall really amazing teacher. He really tries to help you succeed, and he gives access to lots of extra work material to ensure success. He is hilarious, and overall an amazing dude. The only complaint is he is a tad bit fast with his lecture notes, and he skips over some important details, but nevertheless, amazing teacher.
Holy cow. This semester was one hell of a ride for M249. First off, props off to the guy for teaching it this well and making it INTERACTIVE, if it weren't for the tophat, I would sleep so hard at the 8AM lectures. Not only that, he will make sure to answer your question and even do it in a different way. LETS GO BRO!!!! U THE GOAT. See u in 265!
As much as I want to give him a 5/5 since I heard great things about him, the way he ran his Math275 class was not the greatest. Everytime I asked a question, he would just tell me to ask the other person beside me leaving me very lost.very lost. However, he is very quick with emails and is very helpful during his office hours/math help centre.
He is the reason I passed this class!!! Math has never been my strongest suit, but he explained things in a way that was easy to follow, showing multiple ways to do the work. His lectures made things clear and helped my understanding grow throughout the semester. I honestly couldn't have done it without him. Dr. Smith, thank you for everything! :)
Very amazing professor. I got the grade I did because the Math part was hard for me, but Dr. Smith made it so much easier to understand. He is amazing. Take his class if you have to take Math 249. He is so worth the 8am lectures!!!
Jerrod was an amazing prof, he is really funny and tries to explain calc in a funny and simple way. I found the class extremely difficult as the midterm questions were much harder than the questions we did in class, but there is plenty of practice problems to do and you can reach Jerrod outside of class very easily.
Dr. Smith was a great professor. He explained concepts well and provided lots of study material, including practice tests. He also did a great job engaging the class- even at 8am. All of the praise aside, any calculus class will be difficult and require lots of hard work, so showing up and doing work outside of the lectures is very necessary.
Great professor, content was just difficult in general.
The best prof I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and provides PLENTY of study resources like practice tests and exercises. He's so organized, funny, and literally worth the 8 AM lectures. If I had one wish, I would make Jerrod Smith knowledgeable in all areas of Math and make him my prof in all my classes.
Get him as your prof at all costs, best explainer at math I've ever seen. Funny asf, super interactive with students in class and his tests are fair. All around great prof
Jerrod is an icon. Love him. Super slay guy.
Such a cool guy. Funny, interactive, and made learning math a pleasent experience. Jerrod radiates positivity and makes you want to succeed in his class. Very helpful during office hours and provides detailed explanations to describe very abstract topics.
Jerrod obviously enjoys what he does and is always ready to help. He's great at explaining and does not rush you in learning. Gives great feedback and try his best to help where he can.
Had Dr. Smith for Math 267 and Math 271... Excellent professor, he's easy to understand and always makes topics clear. Highly recommend taking a course with him, even as an option!
He is the goat
Jerrod is an amazing professor. He made the really abstract, niche concepts in math 311 a breeze, especially given how much time he had to go through concepts. Definitely would choose to take all my math courses with him!
He makes lectures fun and interactive with students, even in a lecture hall full of 100+ students. Charismatic and easy to talk to when you need help.
Smith is really enthusiastic about math making it much easier to learn. when our test software crashed he gave us the opportunity to earn bonus marks, which was just awesome!! In terms of the actual class sequence and series was hard, and switching integration bounds (Spherical, polar, etc), but smith made it that much more enjoyable!
Smith is very passionate about math. He goes to great lengths to explain difficult course material and is very accessible outside of class. He made this semester's math fun to do and answered any questions with clarity. Genuinely, the best math professor I have had.
He's super accessible outside of class and is willing to schedule extra office hours to help. The practice tests and assignments are really good prep for the exams. The second midterm is pretty difficult so definitely stay caught up.
Jerrod is an absolutely amazing professor. Like everyone else, I'm going to suggest if you ever have to take any calculus or math class, I highly suggest you try to take it with Jerrod. He is so caring about his students and so passionate about the content. It makes a tough class like Calc 2 extremely enjoyable. Absolutely recommend him.
this man is magic, I absolutely hate math but I never dreaded going to this guys classes. I had him for math 249 and 267 and both times he was amazing.
Super good lectures, very engaging and easy to keep up with.
Amazing prof
This course is quite daunting, but if it's any prof you want, it's this guy. The lecture sessions are never boring, he makes them entertaining while also teaching the course content in an easily digestible manner. The worksheet assignments are fairly graded and responses to emails, as well as solutions to assignments, are given very promptly.
Love him
Take it with him if you can. Can't imagine myself surviving Math 249 with any other prof. It was very difficult class but Jerrod made it motivating to attend lectures, he does not waste your time at all. He's super good at explaining difficult concepts, accessible outside of class, and remembered his students names even if you've only spoken once.
Genuinely such an angel of a human being, remembers a lot of peoples names. Calc was difficult for me (Im a bio major, I really dislike math), but I still somehow finished with an A+, thanks to him no doubt. Tells jokes to keep spirits up in 8:00AM lectures (don't forget the wild music selections). Extremely helpful out side of class.
Made calculus fun
Take him if you can! Amazing prof and amazing lectures, makes calc less hard :)
You know those Math videos you go to on Youtube because your in-person professor kinda sucks? Forget about them if your prof is Dr Smith. This man can make watching paint dry entertaining. Amazing prof and makes you actually WANT to attend lectures.
It is difficult to describe in words how amazing he is. Whereas with other classes it felt like a slog to get through lectures, often unmotivated or content is not presented with any enthusiasm, Dr. Smith makes his lectures anything but. His classes are engaging, making you feel like you learnt something valuable, while being super wholesome.
4 letters: GOAT. Whereas in many other classes lectures feel like slogs, unmotivated and uninspired, or lack of any help whatsoever, Dr. Smith is anything but. His classes are engaging and make you feel like you've learnt something valuable after, while being such a wholesome guy, plus he provides so many out of class resources to help. Legend
Absolutely amazing professor, best I've had. He knows how to keep students engaged and teaches calculus in such a straightforward manner that it's almost impossible not to instantly understand him. He is helpful and creates a welcoming environment for all. He is so skilled at what he does and I genuinely look forward to attending his lectures.
If you ever need to take math, #1 recommend Jerrod. Jerrod brings so much passion, enthusiasm and energy to all classes that attending an 8am math lecture becomes actually enjoyable. Responds very promptly to all questions and shows genuine care for his students.
He is nice but very difficult class
Overall Jerrod is a very enthusiastic and passionate prof who really tries to make things as understandable as possible. That being said, the class itself is quite difficult especially if you have not taken pre calc. I would highly recommend taking the time to review the topics each week and do the exercises.
Felt like the second unit could be taught better (spent a lot of time answering unrelated questions from select students and it took away from the content). Only suggestion would be that there should be more examples for each topic. But he is understanding and if the webwork and tasks are done well, then you have a decent shot.
super difficult class and speeds through lectures
Class is very difficult content-wise. He does good job of making it enjoyable, does many examples, has many resources, gives exam tips. Very easy to reach out to and helpful as well. Exams are online open book but extremely difficult (and he makes problems that you can't use internet to solve) so its crucial that you understand the THEORY behind it
Funniest prof I have ever had
Very difficult course so biased review but, he is an excellent person and very caring, I just don't think I worked well with the way he taught. I think he spends a little too much time answering peoples questions and getting a little side tracked. I learn best with lots of examples, there weren't many of those. Jumps fast into new content.
Great Proff
Professor Smith brings so much enthusiasm to the class, making even calc enjoyable. The lectures are worth attending, and Unstuckstudy is a great study tool alongside the free textbook.
Really great lectures! Always has every lecture prepared for each day. Includes a very minimal amount of student involvement in lecture while providing information on concepts in great detail while being concise and using examples. Overall very amazing professor.
great proff, very enthusiastic about math, interacts with studenrs well and answers questions. if u see him in MHS would definitly talk tua him bc he explains conce[pts in a simple way. made me undersatandf calc better
Sick guy, funny man, clearly cares about his job and makes class entertaining.
Really good calc teacher, here's why: 1) Lectures contain hard problems that he walks through clearly 2) Tests are extremely reasonable 3) Super accessible on D2L, email, and office hours 4) Funny, caring, personable guy who definitely cares about the success of his students
Best. Math. Professor. Period.
Best prof ever he let us watch his Spotify wrapped with him in the lecture
He made coming to lectures fun and understandable. I struggled in high school with calculus but I learned so much with him. As with all Math courses, there is a lot of homework (WebWork questions, tests and written assignments) but he gives automatic extensions and multiple attempts to get 100%.
Highly recommend! If you struggle with Math or loathe this subject, then professor Jerrod Smith is perfect for you. Easy grading material, gives passionate lectures, and gives good feedback.
Other reviews sum up how wonderful Smith is, he deserves so much
Dude was a down to earth, good teacher, who actually made lectures interesting through interaction with students. Overall recommend.
Super helpful lectures, good notes, approachable and funny guy
Dr.Smith is the GOAT! Super helpful and easy to get ahold of him outside of lecture times. Knows what he is talking about and explains it in a way that is easy to understand.
Best prof I've had and probably will ever have. He made Math 271 seem simple and would show up to the math help center regularly and was very helpful there to. Will take a course with him every chance I get.
