He is really funny, likes to joke with you but he def. knows his stuff. He wants his students to be educated as well and trys to make it fun. You have two oral news reports and a couple papers. Nice guy, great teacher, must take :)

Prof. Breckon is totally a nice guy. He's funny with a dry sense of humor. As long as you show up and take notes and write a somewhat decent paper (get the APA style down!!) you'll get an easy A. He takes his lecture and the tests straight from the text. There are 2 papers, 3 tests and lots of chances for extra credit (ask questions!)

Good teacher, sometimes funny. Go to class everyday cuz he takes attendance and gives you points. Ask questions during daily news reports and get extra credit. each person has to do 2 daily news reports, just look up an event on a news website and do a power point on it. theres a midterm, final, and two papers.

This teacher is great. he's really nice and funny almost always lets you out early. His lectures are easy to follow but the midterma and final are hard. Study but they don't count for that much if you do well on your paper and show up to class. You get points for coming. Overall really great teacher and class def take him!

He's really chill. The lectures are interesting. He pute his Powerpoints online so you don't really need to write anything down in class. But make sure you do well on the research assignment. Its a big deal.

He's hilarious! Lots of extra credit, no HW, 2 exams, 1 quiz, 1 short presentation & 1 paper. Super nice, super funny. Best teacher ever. Its hard to fail his class.He gives detailed study guides, and there's a TON of extra credit opportunities.As long as you show up(he takes attendance), you'll ace it.

Okay this class is not bad at all. You get points for going to class so its important to go thats for sure. the bonus points also help. Make sure to do the study guide its exactly whats on the mid term final and quiz. DO GOOD ON YOUR PAPER!!!! Go to him if you need help dont wait until the last minute!!!! otherwise its great. hes a great teacher

Best class. Professor is hillarious. A few tests, but he gives you a study guide, which is exactly like the test. One presentation (like a curent event) and one big paper (on a topic of your choice). Fun and interesting class! Lots of extra credit.

This is my favorite teacher that I've had so far. He's super down to earth and as long as you study the material you'll do fine on tests. There is one 10 page paper that you do for the semester. But as long as you do what the rubric requires you will get a good grade.

I had no interest in this subject at all but professor brecken was a good teacher. Most of the time i was bored in class, but he always tells jokes to liven up the mood, and the class discussions are very amusing. The essays are hard, but as long as you try he will work with you.

Super easy class!!! He is really funny and tells a lot of stories so going to class isnt that bad. Takes attendance every single class for points so ATTEND! Study guides he hands out are exactly what is on the test

My favorite Class, hands down! i loved attending this class because the professor made the class interesting and fun. he always joked around but some how used his sense of humor to make his students learn the material. his powerpoints are super helpful and to tell you the truth as long as you understand the powerpoint info you will pass the tests

Lets out early at times. Enjoyed class very much. Never used textbook. Gives you all notes online. Highly recommended!

Great teacher. No homework, one 10-page essay, one group presentation and like 4 tests. The study guide he gives you has EVERYTHING on the test but he does try to trick you so watch out. Don't buy the book. He takes role every class. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Really funny guy too.

Breckon is a great professor! He's hilarious, and makes class enjoyable. The mid-term and finals are in essay format, but he gives you the prompt before hand, which I found to be very helpful! Take his class!

Took for PSCI 321. He is funny and genuinely a nice guy. His tests are easy, all essay format, but he gives you 6 questions beforehand then chooses 3 on test day. Had paper due every week, make sure you know your APA FORMAT, or he will grade you down!! Gives lots of xtra credit! Grades fairly (except APA Format lol).

Really good teacher, every class he take attendance and at the end of the semester it adds up to 60 points so going to class is important. He also gives out extra credit every class, and his lectures are all powerpoint slides. His grading is based on test, a 10 pg essay and a group project. Recommend this teacher

Good professor. DONT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. waste of money. enjoys his job, pretty easy to listen too, class is enjoyable. moderate political views, assumes all college students are and should be liberal- a little annoying but i liked him.

Definetly my favorite teacher so far at CSUSM. Made Psci go from boring to awesome for me. Class was pretty easy. Never even bought the book and still got an A. 1 Quiz, 10 pg. essay at the beginning of the semester, mid term and final. Overall he is one of those teachers you will remember for the rest of your life :)

Kind of teacher I'd like to sit down and have a beer with while discussing politics. haha but overall he was a pretty funny guy, really easy class. I actually kind of looked forward to coming to his class!

I don't agree with his political views. I wish he would keep his political status/ views to himself...my other history professors do. He tore down certain political parties & tried to turn the class against those parties. His class is like going back to high school. 3 tests, 10 pg. paper, & group project. Tests are tough.

Hes a very chill guy. Kinda a mix between a hippy and a military guy. very nice and organized but lectures a lot and goes off on tangents. i liked him and looked forward to his class. Tests are hard but the class isnt.

One of my favorite professors! He is so friendly and funny! He makes class fun with his side stories. The class is not that hard, just attend class and take notes. Made political science pretty interesting. You can tell he enjoys teaching!

Seriously one of my favorite teachers. I was not excited to take polysci and now I look forward to coming to class and it just may be my favorite this semester! He is a funny dude, lots of extra credit, really wants you to succeed. Just attend class and listen and you'll do great.

Professor Breckon is funny and always in a good mood!I suggest you buy the book if you buy the textbook if you know you will have time to read it because you will be more confident and will be more likely to participate and he in likes the students that participate. I suggest you take this course if you are able to.

His class is so funny and entertaining. He goes on tangents a lot about his life but it makes the class more interesting. Hes a great professor always cracking jokes and making the class have a good vibe.

Took this professor my freshman year (2 years ago) and can't stop wishing I realized how spoiled I was. By far favorite professor I've ever taken. Cares about his students and is always there to help.

Prof. Breckon is great. Yes, his class is easy, but he's really fun. What can you expect from a freshman class? You will be given points for attendance so it's not MANDATORY, but it is a good idea to show up. We never used the book. He does really love politics and will find a way to interest you. You have to try really hard to fail his classes.

He's a great teacher with lots of interesting stories. He offers a TON of extra credit and gives you points for showing up. I really didn't use the California text book. Overall it's an awesome class.

By Far one of my favorite prof. I am not a morning person but he seems to always wake me up with his random funny stories that he tells through out class. Never really liked history but he teaches it in a way everyone can understand. Dont really need the book just go over your notes and the presentations. Rearly any HW. Gotta take the class.

Awesome teacher. Gives loads of extra credit. Just make sure you go to class because he takes attendance every class and those points are a good cushion. Also, read the text. He'll assign reading but never check to see if anyone did it. Many mistake his niceness as easyness but his tests are a bit difficult if you don't read. Highly recommend.

Great teacher! Took his 7:30 a.m. class and I am surprised that I woke up every time just to attend his class. Loved each class day because he gave bonus points for anything basically. Didn't use the book that much because we would fall behind but that didn't matter much. Overall, I would definitely take him to cover one of your GE Sections!

Even though I didn't agree with the guy politically, and he did push his agenda a little bit, he was a great professor. Very fair to people, never told anyone they were wrong about what they believed. Didn't really use the book a whole lot, would get behind on lectures b/c of class discussions. Apparently he's adding book reports for next semestr

If you don't take him for PSCI 100 you're crazy! Gives loads of extra credit. Makes his 730 am class worth it. Gives everybody a chance and makes the class easy for everyone to understand and pass.

great professor. makes class interesting so students don't get bored. he likes the students to get involved so he offers bonus points for a lot of things. don't get the textbooks! i spent about $100 on 2 books and didn't even touch them. the only books you need to get are the 2 for the 2 book reviews for the semester. take this class!

Take Poly Sci with Jerry!! He is an awesome teacher with a wealth of knowledge. I have been recommending his class to everyone I know. You never really crack into the textbooks but you do have book reviews. I enjoyed every minute of his lectures and he was very helpful with all of his students. I would take this class again!

You do need to read the textbook for the study guide. You cant expect to not to have good grade on your exams if you do not read the book, it helps me understand more thoroughly and exam can be tricky since it is multiple choices. Also do your book report well and make sure you follow the apa format and his request or your grade will not excel.

He is such an amazing teacher. The two critical book reports you have to do were kind of hard if you aren't really into history but they were do able. He plays good music before class and always makes his students laugh.

This is class is easy. There's study guides available so do them! 2 quizzes online, midterm & final. Critical Book Reviews that are 4-5 pages long APA format, DNR's (daily new reports) you'll be put into a group and have to present. Extra credit is available also

He is a great professor. He lectures and goes over current events; I wouldn't reccomend you miss many classes, but, if you do then he isn't too hard on you.

GET HIM! This is the class I usually put off, but I mean it's fun going to because of his personality. He may not be a professor to cancel class but he is one to end it early. Lectures are so interesting & I hate politics. But he makes you retain information without even trying. It's awesome. Oh & I bought all the books & didn't need any of it.

I enjoy taking his class, it's very interesting. Make sure to attend because he does give you attendance participation grade. Make sure to focus on his class. Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, make sure to take them. For both the midterm and the final, if you do and study the study guide,you will pass the exams.

I was worried about taking an 8am class because I am not a morning person but Breckon made it very enjoyable and entertaining. He is a hilarious and caring individual who will put time into helping his students. He grades fairly well and as long as you put in a little effort, you will pass.

Wonderful professor who really knows his stuff. I am not into the subject of Poly Sci at all, but really walked away with a better knowledge on the subject. A lot of lectures, but all important information. There will be a group project and essay. He is very funny, laid back and offers EC opportunities.

Loved his class. Was not very into it before taking it, but he made the material fun and interesting. He loves powerpoints so beware of these cheesy slides. There are so many opportunities for extra credit and he grades papers easy.

I thought I was interested in politics before I took his class; now I know I am. Great in class conversations and allows the students to speak their mind, not just listen to his interpretation of. If debate and critical thinking is on your list of fun stuff, this is the class for you. Work load is not overwhelming either.

Prof. Breckon is an amazing teacher. He is funny, very sweet, and helpful. He lectures a lot, but he keeps each class interesting and entertaining. He gives out a lot of EC and you get points for attendance. Study for the tests and quizzes and you'll be fine. Not too difficult as long as you put in the effort. I recommend him to everyone.

Let me tell you that political science is not my best suit and Breckon made it very easy to remember the subject in every chapter. Breckon was amazing definitely recommend you take him. He is hilarious and very sweet as long as you do all the work you should be fine. Offers a lot of extra credit so thats awesome.

Don't buy the textbook because the tests will be based off of his lectures/powerpoints. You honestly don't even need to go to class because he posts his powerpoints and everything online. Just have a friend who signs you into the attendance sheet everyday. I hated the group project because I had to do all the work for my incompetent groupmates.

Super laid back professor. He's always cracking jokes, makes talking about politics really easy. He's not biased and will genuinely listen to whatever comments you make. He also makes attendance factor into your grade so just show up and you'll get some easy points. Lots of opportunity for extra credit if you just participate in class discussions.

Imagine the dankest meme possible, then put it into a person. That is this teacher. He is so odd, but such a great teacher all the same. So far we've had 2 online quizzes and a group project all are very easy A's. He gives 30 points extra credit for participating making this class incredibly easy.

The easiest class I've taken so far at CSUSM. Breckon doesn't particularly care if you remember all of the vocab but wants you to develop your political stance. Tests and quizzes were fairly easy. He only teaches classes in the early morning but it was worth getting up for that class.

Amazing professor. His class isnt hard, the study guides reflect the test exactly. There is a book review that is due in the beginning of the semester and assigns some readings but other than that no homework. Has a lot of opportunities for bonus points. He had a good sense of humor and was my favorite professor. Take his class if you can!

I decided to take Prof. Breckon's class this semester after reading feedback here on ratemyprofessors. He is an amazing instructor, who really knows his subject. Grading criteria are very clear. You have many opportunities to get an extra credit. I would definitely advise you to read power points and required books if you want to get a good grade.

Took his class last semester. Overall this class is really easy 3 online quizzes on cougar courses 1 essay 1 project midterm and final. Study guides are basically the test. you can earn up to 30 points of extra credit. Attendance counts. Easy A if you go to class

Funny as hell. This man is a legend lol. His class is extremely easy and very much understandable. You could miss class every single day(having someone sign you in of course) except for your group presentation date and the midterm review and you would get an A.

Very nice and informative teacher. He gives you study guides on the quizzes and tests and they're always very close to the exams. He offers extra credit by just explaining what is going on in politics recently along with EC for being a registered voter! You have one group project and it's pretty painless.

this man is EXACTLY how an introductory 100 class should be! he offers extra credit every week and GIVES A STUDY GUIDE... BEST government class I've taken/super do-able. GO to class tho, he teaches early but I took his class because of his reviews and man was that was a good decision. 5/5 STARS

I love what someone else wrote: this is exactly how an intro 100 class should be like. His class can be hard to get into so if you're able to hold off on taking the class to ensure you'll get him next time do so

Best professor ever. He is clear on upcoming assignments & what you need to do in order to pass the class. Attendance is a must as he takes role every class. I learned so much in his class. As long as you study & do well on the major exams then you will be fine. He is an easy grader & his lectures are interesting. Would take again!

Super funny. One group project you have to present but its really easy. Attendance is graded but you can just have a friend sign off for you. Two quizzes and two exams, one of the easiest classes ive taken.

Breckon is one of my favorite professors hands down! He plays music everyday before class starts, starts most days with NEW IN THE NEWS which are very informative and interesting. Overall, professor Breckon is hilarious, laid-back and very caring.

I really enjoy Professor Breckon's class. He makes all his information available, is eager to answer questions outside of class, and is willing to dive into topics that may be seen as controversial by other teachers. I think it's great that he is so unbiased -- I couldn't tell you which direction he leans in politics, and I think that's good.

Breckon is a great Professor, I would take him again, you do have to write a critical book review but its nothing to hard and the midterm and final he has a review day that helps a lot! Everything you need to know for the quizzes and exams are given in the study guide, great help!

The only person who could have ever made this subject remotely barable for me and I am so sad to see him retire but I will always remember him He was the man

Very fun professor. He was able to make class interesting with his lectures. sometimes he went off topic for the lecture to talk about what's going on in the news. Everything on the study guide is in the midterm and final and the quizzes were online.

AMAZING TEACHER!! extremely open-minded and will have open discussions in class about current issues. Gives everyone the chance to speak opinion whether it is leftist or rightist. He makes funny random dad jokes, that makes the class fun. I have the class @ 7:30am but having him as the teacher makes it much bearable. He is very transparent with you

This guy is literally my all time favorite! He's nice, listens to what you gotta say, and he played all my song requests. He's tests are easy straight from what he teaches in class and slides are also very easy to read along! RECOMMEND HIGHLY!
