Has some quirky habits

HELLO! Knowledgable prof, assigns lots of work, expects a lot. He's better than some of the profs I've taken classes with at the 4 yr university I'm at now. He does have his favorite students though...can be kinda discouraging.

Dont go to his classes unprepared because you will regret it. Very cool guy, knows his stuff and willing to work with the students.

He is a very cool guy. I was having trouble with stuff outside school and he took me aside and tried to help me out. He really cares about his students. Puts my faith back in the education system.

He trully cares about his students and how they do in his class. If he sees you may be having trouble he tries to help you. One word of advice though, don't take 2 of his classes in one semester. If you do, you will be writing a lot of papers!!!

Jerry rocks! If you want to learn - he's for you. If you just want to get through it - find somebody else. I learned more in his one class than 3 combined (made the classes I now have seem easier)

Awesome teacher, quirky, helpful; very knowledgable about the subject and you will learn quite a bit, so long as you study, show up for class and do the papers there is no excuse for failing

Jerry is a great professor. He cares about his students and teaching. He makes class fun and interesting. I remember everything from his class from 44 semesters ago. He is fair and knows his subject. Quirky? well that makes it fun.

He knows his subject, and after you get past the ruff, he does care for his students, and has a deep passion for his subject

Decent teacher, class is interesting, always calls on students out of the blue and demands a response. If you're not paying attention you will look stupid, but if you're into the class the discussions can be a lot of fun. Difficult tests though.

Jerry Crane is so very passionate about this particular subject that it's contagious. It would be hard to sit in the class and not get excited about the information he's feeding you! He's a wonderful teacher, I definately recommend taking him!

I had Professor Crane for Interim. His class was very intersting but it was hard to digest everything in three weeks. I recommend taking this class in a regular semester... too much cramming in interim.

Crane is a great teacher. You have to do some tough assignments for him, but he's fair, and if you pay attention, you will learn a lot, because he adds a lot to the book.

His assignments are not hard as long as you do what is expected. He prepares you well for all tests. Fun class, he is very helpful if you have questions, nice guy. Definatly worth taking, challenging and engaging, but not hard.

Had a bit of a crush on him. So passionate and I learned so much and will remember it all. A lot of work but its worth it. Take as many classes as you can with him, you will not reget it. Even if you fail the class you will still learn something worthwhile.

"Learn to play the game folks." Other than the fact that I practically had to write a flippin masters thesis in my interim class, he was cool. I wish I would have taken his class during a longer term. Then I would've leaned a lot more. He is a great teacher, but if you play the game you'll do good.

Very thorough. If you are intelligent and want a teacher who doesn't dumb it down, then Crane is the man. He has a good vocabulary and awesome stories that make you think. Take a class with him.

Crane is a teacher who won't hand the "A" right to you but if you put a little effort forth it is right there. He is a tough teacher but in a god way. His classes are really fun and he gets everyone to interact so you are not just writing notes he whole time..Awesome teacher would recommend him!

This prof is great. You can tell that he really cares about his students and wants them to learn. He is fun and knows a ton about life. This was my fav. class to go to because I wasn't sitting through a boring lecture.

I had him for 2 classes. He was my FAVORITE professor at RVC.I have never worked so hard or learned so much.He made getting up for a 9am class worth it. He is passionate, inspiring, motivating & most of all approachable! You cannot get away with doing nothing but as long as do your best you'll have come away with a wealth you never thought possible

He's a wonderful, interesting, and intelligent teacher.

Crane is a very animated teacher that wants you to participate. He's VERY passionate about sociology, and because of that causes you to become excited. He gets pretty excited, too, when people actually start asking questions in class and making comments. Don't be shy! However, he's slow at emailing or calling back.

I took him online. He was always available and responded very quickly to questions. His tests- well, he didn't give us a lecture, so all we had to go on were the chapter readings. I thought when I took his test, it was in Japanese! Nothing made sense. I have no idea how I ended up with a B. Must be SOME curve!

A wonderful Professor he is the kind after school is over you think back on as inspirational.

The class isn't that bad, the test are pretty easy. But if I ever hear another story about him working in juvenile-prisons I'll kill myself. Seriously, he tells a lot of stories.

This class was very hard and his tests were brutal, but it was well worth it! Mr. Crane is a wonderful professor! I really looked forward to going to class everyday because the class went by so fast and it was interesting. Don't miss a lot of class or you will be lost, and be prepared to write and discuss a lot in class.

AWESOME TEACHER! He is very hard and he makes you think about things in detail. His tests are kind of hard but he gives you plenty of oppurtunities to pass as long as you do the work required. He is very passionate and funny to! Talking to him will help you in any situation, if you have a problem in his class he will help JUST TALK TO HIM.

Although he's a difficult teacher, he knows his subject well. Expect to write many papers.

He isn't a bad teacher, but for some reason I like other Sociology teachers at Rock Valley more. A lot of papers to write, he needs to spend more time on the material that you are tested on, I hate day of lectures when you take the test that class period. Very enthusiastic, will randomly call on people,but not a bad teacher.

Show up, be respectful, take notes, read the material/book b4 it's due, and interact in class and you've got it made.His class is hard, but if you pay attention, study, and take good notes you're gold.At first he's pretty intense/hyper, but that's just b/c he loves what he teaches. A guy that is arrogant and hard to speak to, one on one. However he is an excellent teacher! This is a intense, interesting class. Don't bother signing up unless you plan to be there everyday.

He expects his students to act like adults who choose to be there and learn.Yes I will admit his tests were some of the most difficult I have ever taken but I still got a good grade which proves it can be done. Life isn't all about what's easy. He is a GREAT teacher. He is both knowledgable and loud and exciting because he loves whath teaches.

Do not walk into his sex & gender roles thinking it's a blow off class or an easy A because you know about the topic. What you thought you knew, you don't. I did A LOT of work for this class and left it with a C. Plan on attending every class. Tests were hard. He's disorganized (I think he just teaches too many classes) so you can't miss classes.

Don't listen to anything anyone says bad about him. He is an awesome teacher and he is very into what he is doing which makes it interesting. His tests are easy and his study guides are very helpful!He is also a very caring professor. If you need clarity go to him with it one on one.

Prof. Crane is probably the only teacher that can make this class not boring. His personality is quite wild, as for a tough grader, he is not. He curved every test and even handed out extra credit. Good teacher, tough class. He goes through everything that will be on the test, but sometimes a little too fast. He has great views, and fun to listen too. Definately need to take notes and pay attention.

Took both intro to soc and his Sex and Gender class. LOVE THIS MAN! He expects a lot but I learned so much in his class and decided to switch my major because of what I learned.

Prof. Crane was very nice and considerate. He is a tough strong willed type of person and I was surprised that his grading is actually somewhat lenient. As long as you study the notes as well as the study guides u'll do fine. Also, very interesting writing assignments to for criminology

I took his class as part of the Honors Program requirements and am I so glad that I did! I even considered changing my major to sociology during my time in his class because he made the material so fascinating! He expects you to ask questions if you don't understand and is a great help both in and out of class. LOVED IT!

Crane is AWESOME. His classes are really fun and educational at the same time. He likes his students to be very involved in his lecture. He can be a bit arrogant and condescending sometimes, but most of the time he's pleasant. Don't try to contact him via Ednet, because he never responds.

Fun guy! He definitely knows his stuff and applies everything to life. His exams and papers are very hard!!

Professor Crane is awesome! He was always prepared for class when i took it and made things very simple to understand for everyone! He even made Sociology interesting, which is not an easy task by any means. I would strongly recommend taking Sociology with Professor Crane... he is hilarious too!

You can tell that he is very passionate about what he teaches. He is great at explaining things, but his notes are very scattered. He is very nice. His tests are a little hard & good luck on the papers, they were a lot of work. But I would DEFINITELY take another one of his classes.

He is very smart and very passionate about social science. He is freaking hillarious and really open. As long as you study you can get a great grade. His test are okay but he always has essays but he grades them soft so it's not that big of deal. He has to major papers but I still think that he is a fair grader. I say take the class! :D

Throughout this course I learned numerous things. This class was challenging, but in the end well worth it. An excellent class to take and I would recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for a class that is worth your time, I would take this one.

WOW! he is hard, but one of the best! just keep on top of assignments and you'll do fine. However, I would NOT recomend trying to take anouther "HARD" class at the same time!

He was extremely passionate about the subject. He speaks very quickly so paying attention is key. He didn't use a textbook for my class. Just two books that we had to read for book reviews. I would take him in my second year if I had to because he requires a lot of dedication that most freshman do not have yet.

Outstanding great stories to relate to academic information

Took this class by mistake though I had to take it. He was very helpful and fun. He made an otherwise boring class interesting. In the very short amount of time there was. He got me thinking and using critical thinking even though the class material was a joke.

I absolutly loved crane. I learned more in that one class then I did in any other. He is a brilliant mind, and easy on eyes. He is always there to help you understand. As long as you show up and are respectful he will show you respect as well. Be prepared to be randomly called on in class though. Take him, you wont regret it!!!:)

Crane is an awesome teacher. he has high expectations for his students! assignments are very interesting. reading the text and coming to class will only benefit you, especially for the exams. he does a good job explaining the material and encourages students to participate and get thinking!!

Had no true interest in Sociology until I took his Intro course, now I love it, and am actually thinking of minoring in it when I transfer to University. Amazing professor. Highly recommend.

I love Crane, not only is he an amazing teacher but a really good down to earth man. Do your work, pay attention, and be respectful and you will earn his respect. Loves his job, and his students who actually try. Earned a B and worked my butt off for it too. He is willing to help, if you are willing to ask. :)

Crane, without a doubt, is the best soc prof at RVC. I loved his class. He really knows his stuff. He was energetic and I loved the conversational style of the class. He always encouraged discussion. I took the class in the summer and it was a breeze. The research paper was kind of difficult though.

Crane is seriously awesome. His class is one of those classes you won't want to miss. I'm taking his deviance class next semester as an elective. I strongly recommend him.

Fantastic professor. Looked forward to his lectures bc they're great. He really helps you understand sociology. Gives a study guide for each test! If you study, you'll get A's. But this is NOT a blow-off class, you need to try. He's theatrical and loud but it makes everything more interesting and fun. Take him, you won't regret it. He's wonderful.

I found this class pretty easy, but only because I showed up to every class and paid attention. The thing I loved most was that Crane will give you the option to drop multiple choice questions and write an essay worth the same amount of points on tests. This was a great option for me. Crane is very passionate and really knows his stuff. Great Guy.

Professor Crane is the master of Sociology, really knows his stuff and makes the class interesting. Really made me understand Sociology and looking at life differently as well as respecting other individuals personal view on various things. Right, wrong or indifferent. :)

I LOVE Professor Crane! What an AMAZING Professor! I am so glad I had the chance to take his class. I signed up for the 8 wk course, which was grueling as is, but he made it EASY. His lectures are FUNNY, INFORMATIVE, and I carried what I learned from him to my university sociology classes! He is so encouraging. I now love sociology because of him!

Crane is one of the funniest professors at RVC. He makes lectures interesting and enjoyable. His class is not, however, an easy A. You must work hard in order to be successful in this class. If you're looking for an easy A, find another professor. But if you really want to learn and understand the material, then this is the professor for you.

He is very passionate and well versed in his field. I have taken more than one class by him and I plan on taking more! I gave the easiness a 3 because you really have to work for it and fully explain that you understand the material, that being said he is a very great professor and will do anything to help as long as you respect him and his class!!

I learned a lot of information in my STU 100; I didn't originally expect to. He was enthusiastic about our college experience. He didn't want us to waste our college years and gave us tips that were necessary. Overall, made a boring class rather pleasant.

Such an incredible professor. He really makes you work for the grade but the class in it of itself is so rewarding its worth it.

Crane is a great guy. Very passionate. You get a couple quizzes and four tests with two large assignments. DO NOT wait till the last minute on those. He always kept his lectures interesting. Class was an easy A/B if you simply stay on track with assignments.

Mr. Crane is a very passionate and friendly guy. He knows his stuff, and he does a great job of engaging students in his lectures. There are only two big assignments the whole semester with plenty of time to complete both. He may come off as a bit arrogant and condescending at times, but do not let that take away from his overall greatness!

He is an amazing teacher. He is really funny and he knows what hes talking about and explains it well! Most importantly he curves the exams which is really helpful! He has classroom discussions, a couple papers, a couple tests, and some assignments out of the book that he counts as attendance! Over all a great teacher! I would take his class again!

Professor Cranes tests can be very somewhat difficult, so make sure you put in enough time to study! Thats really my only complaint about him. Great guy, passionate of what he teaches, in depth explanations and he likes to get his students very engaged to the subject in which he most the time succeeds in. His projects are very time consuming tho

Lecture, powerpoint and book. He's enjoyable. Some homework. Homework & attendance is a participation grade. 2 major assignments that he gives over a month to complete. 1st is easier, 2nd is tough (start when he gives you the assignment!!) Questions? See him during office hours, before/after class, dont message him. Know your stuff or you wont pass

Professor Crane is a real gem at RVC. He takes his job as a professor seriously. Most difficult class I've taken thus far, but he's also the best professor I've had. Extremely smart and interesting guy. I always enjoyed his class/lectures, and never dreaded showing up everyday. He doesn't just give A's away, he definitely makes you work for it.

Pretty nice teacher, tells funny stories, accessible outside of class, easy grader, make sure you do the work or you won't pass, have to study and show up, 2 really big projects, they're super easy only if you do a lot of research. Tests aren't bad, but make sure you can answer his essays! STUDY VOCAB!!

Professor Crane is a quality instructor but if you are not willing to participate he will force at least someone to carry that burden.

I know he is retiring this semester but I just wanted to write about how much I enjoyed his class! Only complaint was he was slow at responding to messages on canvas but he was overall very understanding and a great teacher.
