By far, best professor that i have ever had at CMU. If you have a chance to take a class with him, take it.
Great Teacher!! Lots of fun!
great guy and great teacher.
Great guy. Follows a class schedule and will notify of any changes. He is usually understanding when it comes to problems with assignments. He tries to make class interesting and bought pizza for us one day! The course isnt a breeze but wasn't too difficult.
The best class i've had at CMU. Jerry makes everything fun to learn. I highly recommend taking this class.
Very nice guy. He cares about students and classes are fun. He ends each night with "words of wisdom"..Funny guy, good class. I highly recommend taking him.
Jerry is fun, cool, and he cares about you. His "words of wisdom" are always useful and/or effective. Take it with him. You won't be dissapointed
Great guy that teaches based on his experience, there was a long paper and a group project, but there is more than sufficient time to do both of them. not a really easy class, but he will stay after as long as needed to help you after class (he stayed 'til midnight one night helping half the class format their paper). Once again, great guy
His classes are interesting and fun. His class seemed hard for a 100 level class due to a 8-10 page research paper. Overall good teacher.
Funny guy, cares about his students. Kinda hard, but learned a lot. Good use of real world examples.
He is a very nice and funny guy. I heard he is better than other BIS 101 teachers. The class is easy overall. Only 4 quizzes, they are easy, and 1 final exam that he gives you the questions for in the review. Start early on both big projects and he will help you along with each. Don't buy the book.
Jerry was the man. Don't buy the book. Quizzes were random and easy. You can talk him into extra credit often if there isn't a lot of people in class. Go see him during his office hours or ask him after class to help you with the two big projects. Do your assignments and enjoy him. Great class and so far my favorite teacher
Easily the best prof I've ever had, a genuinely nice guy, and he's also really funny and tells awesome stories. He actually makes the material interesting, and relates his lectures to real world examples. He also brought in pizza for the whole class one day and NEVER kept us the whole time. Learned a ton from him, no other prof is even close.
He is an awesome teacher! He gives you tons of helpful information for future careers. Overall one of my favorite professors!
Jerry is by far the best teacher that i've had thus far here at CMU. the class was extremely easy, and Jerry was always helpful and accessible. Don't buy the book. I personally only needed to look in the book like only two times. But if you can take him, take him. he's the best.
by far my favorite professor this year! he is enthusiastic about what he does and is more than willing to help you. he is funny and gives you good advice that will help you in the future. pretty easy class, dont buy the book i didnt use it once.
Great! he doesn't test you on knowledge from book he does it in real life scenarios like he said at the beginning of class no job is going to put a scan tron in front of you and ask what you know.
Jerry is by far my favorite teacher. He has a passion for what he does and is a great teacher. He gives real life scenarios and makes the class fun to attend. There are quite a few projects; a research report, a company project, and a group project, but if you put some time and effort into it, it won't be a big deal. Definitely take him!
Jerry is a great professor. He is enthusiastic and he obviously loves the subject. He's very personable and almost always remembers students names and takes an interest in them. Love him. Class work is relatively easy, case studies are actually FUN, and the quizzes are randomly spaced out throughout the year, but only 10 questions each. Great class
Jerry is a great professor! Very funny, very nice, very understanding. Not a huge work load yet he gets his point across very well. I recomend him to my absolute fullest!
Great guy ...I'd take him again in a minute.
Communication classes are not my strong suit but Jerry made it really easy to understand and I had a great time attending class.
Dimaria is an awesome guy, cares about his students doing well. The class is very easy as long as you do the assignments. He grades pretty easy. Actually had fun in his class and will be looking for more of his classes throughout my time at Central. Highly recommend
One of the best professors I've ever had. So friendly and helpful. Recommend 100%.
Awesome Professor. If you do the work then you will pass.
Jerry is one of the reasons why I'm glad I chose the CBA at CMU. He's really helpful, fun, and interactive with his students. Do NOT buy the book. Save the money. He encourages one group assignment the entire semester with a few other business documents you need to do. The best part is that you actually learn in his class. Great man, better teacher
Great professor. He's very down to Earth. The only thing you have to look out for are the pop quizzes!
While there were a lot of assignments and group work for this class, Jerry made the class very enjoyable. He is very personable, and is willing to help you. He made the material fun to learn, and allowed you to be creative with all of your projects. I highly recommend taking him!
Should have done better but show and participate and you will walk out with a B
Should have done better but show and participate and you will walk out with a good grade
show up and participate and you will walk out with a good grade
Dr. DiMaria is a charismatic and engaging teacher. I would take him again in a heartbeat. He is always willing to help his students because you can tell he really loves what he does. He is funny and is very easy to relate to. I highly recommend him to anyone.
Jerry was a great professor. His lectures were long but informative. He gives a lot of his own personal experiences in things. He gives 3-4 pop quizzes and you really never have any idea when they will be.
4 pop quizzes, one long research paper (quite interesting) and a group project along with other various assignments that help you learn but aren't that challenging. Attendance isn't necessary but you get all of the assignment info during class. Great professor. Jerry is the best!!
Best teacher! Wish every professor was like him. Always willing to help, good grader not too harsh but good enough to teach you what you did wrong. I had him at 8am and I always wanted to go!
One of the best professors at Central! Take him for any class he teaches! You will not regret it!
Dr. DiMaria is an awesome professor. Loved every second of his lectures. But, make sure before you take this class that it is not a split lecture with him and Professor Kelly. Kelly is terrible. When I signed up for the class, I thought I was getting a great professor, Dr. DiMaria, but instead I also got Kelly, who is the worst professor ever.
Hilarious, super interesting lectures.
Jerry is the man. He's been one of my favorite professors at CMU and would recommend anyone take him if given the chance. He gives a few pop quizzes, but they aren't anything to worry about. Jerry is there for you and knows what he's talking about. 10/10 would recommend.
Jerry is a fantastic professor who is enthusiastic about teaching the class. The class itself is incredibly easy bar a presentation or two (there are two of them), as well as a big paper (which there is plenty of time for). If you've taken a COM class or have a high school education, don't bother getting the book, you never use it, no really.
Jerry always made himself available to students, and his lectures are actually enjoyable to attend. I never missed a day of class because he made it interesting, and the atmosphere was comfortable even for those with a fear of speaking publicly. Would definitely recommend if you have the chance to take a class with him.
Jerry is a super nice guy!!! Except he doesn't tell you when things are due. FOLLOW THE SYLLABUS.
There are multiple small assignments throughout the course, but they can get done in an hour. There is a big group project due at the end of the semester and one big research paper due a month before. Jerry is AWESOME! He makes business and class fun! Outside activities too! Not only did i learn about business writing, but i learned life too!!
Great Prof. He totally "has character". Not afraid to be himself and expects you to be as well. Group projects, make sure you have time.
He gives more homework than other professors teaching the same class. He does not explain how to do assignments very well, so have fun figuring out how to do your assignments on your own. His lectures are extremely boring and can be super annoyingly interactive, but maybe thats because i hate talking in class. 10/10 do not recommend.
Dimaria is an awesome lecture teacher for BIS 101. He knows what your are capable of and will push you to do your best. I loved his lectures, he made them interesting and inspirational. The content of the lectures can get boring but that is just the course itself, not the prof. Loved him, and will take a class with him again if I can!
Dimaria is a cool guy that makes his lectures fun and inspiring. Sometimes its boring but thats just because of the material. Random extra credit points for being there some days. Wants you to know you're capable of doing anything you work for.
Great lecturer. Makes the lectures interesting and fun to go to.
Best lecture professor I've ever had. I enjoyed his lectures so much (prof. bartosek was my lab professor). He is very informative and willing to help; also, he is so funny, he will have you cracking up with his stories and when he has the lecture hall participate. Cool guy, I definitely recommend taking his class.
Great Professor. Dimaria is not clear on grading criteria, but if you go to his office hours he will tell you accordingly. Make sure to show up too, as he does do participation points. Do the work, ask his feedback, and you should be able to pull an easy A-B. The person below this rating never showed up to class. I know who he is.
This guy's a goofball. He dresses like a colorblind Englishman from the 1960s and will not hesitate to tell you that he is one (except maybe the color part). He's a stickler about grading and effort, and sometimes it feels like he's reading your soul, but he tells ridiculous stories, cracks jokes, and teaches you meaningful, real things.
Jerry is a good person. The class is structured easily, as long as you watch the syllabus for due dates. There are two big projects given around the same time, but they won't kill you. Theres some pop quizzes but they aren't too difficult. He is willing and eager to help students, so don't be afraid to ask him for help.
I took this class online through global campus. It was extremely writing intensive. Expect 2-5 papers with annotated bibs due EVERY WEEK. Quizzes over 2 chapters EVERY WEEK. The chapters take days to read but you have to read or at least skim otherwise you wont do well on papers, quizzes, or exams. Quizzes and Exams are all essay questions.
He made lectures fun with stories and engagement with the class & you can tell he cares a lot about his students. There are assignments you have to watch for on the syllabus. He doesnt give very clear grading guidelines, but if you ask, hell tell you anything you need to know. He doesnt just give out As, but if you work hard, you should do well.
Jerry is honestly an amazing person and an amazing prof. He has very high expectations for work, but as long as you actually put in effort, the class will be a breeze. Make an effort to know him because he's super cool. This class did have a semester long group project, but as long as you don't procrastinate its not hard at all.
Such a great prof. He is has found the right profession. I wish he taught all of my classes, because he is inspirational and truly cares about the information he is teaching. Very honest, relaxed guy. Classes were fun and worth going to!
DiMaria is a nice guy, but a terrible professor. He gives little to no instruction and is extremely vague in what he's looking for in assignments. The individual assignments are graphical based, meaning you need graphic design experience. He says it's about the design principles we learn, but you can't demonstrate those without graphic experience.
Jerry is 100%, undoubtedly the best professor at CMU. He is very helpful when it comes to assignments and actually CARES about you! He has had several very meaningful conversations with me and other groups of students after class. He is very, very understanding and has taught me so much. Very funny, very helpful, very nice. Take his class!!
Jerry is very respected by his students and his lectures are usually more like stories. He is available consistently to his students and is willing to help/answer questions. My only knock on Jerry is that he does not have very clear grading criteria. Also, many of our big assignments happened at the end of the semester which sucked.
This class was absolutely wonderful. Jerry truly cares about his students and it shows in his teaching methods. What may seem as an unorthodox teaching style will ultimately lead you to learn more about the subject. His lectures were always lively and the homework was relatively minimal for a WI. Overall, fantastic teacher and highly recommended.
Jerry is a nice guy, but this class is set up poorly. For the first 2/3 of the semester, we did almost nothing, and then in the last 1/3, we had several big projects going on at once. He gives super vague instructions on assignments, and then he takes off huge amounts of points. If he's going to be so picky, he needs to provide a clear rubric.
Jerry was fantastic as a professor. He cares so much about his students and is very passionate about the subject. I had him at an 8:00AM and did not dread going to class. There are a handful of assignments, big ones at the end of the semester with very little criteria, but he is willing to answer any and all questions to help you pass.
Jerry is by far my favorite professor at CMU! His class did involve a lot of work outside of class. We only had a few quizzes and one exam, but the end of the semester was packed with group projects, reports, and presentations. Not a hard class to pass as long as you do the work. Just start early so all the projects don't pile up at the end.
Jerry is cool but the workload for this class is ridiculous. Almost every week you have to submit a "client project" that is roughly 6 pages long, write 2 long blog posts, complete online training courses, read 2-3 book chapters, watch video lectures, and sometimes more. He takes a week to respond to emails so don't even bother. Constant HW.
This class really put a damper on my senior semester. The content is super interesting, but the amount of homework per week is completely overwhelming. I don't know how he expects students taking 15 credits to manage with the number of projects, blogs, lectures, & online courses we have to complete weekly. I put 7 hrs a week into this class alone.
Too much homework. Too much time spent on a class that could of otherwise had hardly any readings or homework. Hard to get in touch with him so don't bother. I missed a few assignments because the syllabus was not correct and told me we had no class. Everything is unorganized. Could of been an easy A. I'm not getting an A.
One of my favorite professors. His class was never boring and the workload was pretty light for a WI. He teaches very practical lessons and always ends class with your choice of a poem or story. A very genuine person and has made a great impact on my experience at CMU. Attendance is not mandatory, but the quizzes are unannounced and based on text.
Jerry is a great professor and gives interesting lectures. However, he expects a lot from you & wants you to work for your grade. You must read your book; his lectures don't go over the book material but the quizzes/exam questions are on this material. He gives little to no feedback whatsoever and there is a group project. Caring & genuine.
PLEASE TAKE HIM he's literally the best professor at CMU. He is so caring for his students. Quizzes every now and then but no exams. Attendance isnt mandatory and most Fridays are cancelled. He makes a boring class fun and hands on so you are actually practicing good business communication, not just learning about him. Put in the effort, an easy A
Jerry is a great guy. His lectures are interesting and I always felt like I had learned something after class. He is very accessible outside of the classroom and he makes sure you know what to expect for projects, presentations, etc.
Professor DiMaria is a very nice guy, but this class was not great. I felt like the quantity of work took away from my quality of learning. The schedule was confusing. I think the class needs to be restructured and condensed into whats truly important for understanding social media in business. It was also a difficult to get ahold of him by email.
Often will not post lectures after class so it is important to attend (learned that the hard way from taking this as an 8 am). Overall, Jerry is a great guy and grades fairly. I learned a lot but be prepared to work hard.
Jerry is probably the best professor I've had at CMU so far and I would highly recommend him to anyone who has the chance to take a class of his. A couple quick warning: pop quizzes do occur, there is a group project that requires a lot of work, and there is a final report that's graded tough. If you engage in class it will be a great experience.
Jerry was overall a great person. Gave good feedback on the papers we turned in. The class started off with having quizzes every Friday but that was short-lived after the 3rd week. Towards the end of the semester, it gets kind of crazy with group projects/individual projects. Easy class and a great guy overall.
Jerry is a wonderful professor. I learned a lot throughout his class. The class can get pretty stressful with some of the assignments. Jerry gives great feedback so I felt I continued to improve. He is such a positive guy and wants his students to succeed. Work hard and you will do amazing! Would totally take another class with Jerry!
Somewhat challenging class. Semester-long capstone project and presentation plus two other presentations. One long business report that is graded very harshly and several memos and letter due throughout semester. Professor is cool in and outside of class but grades somewhat hard.
I took Professor DiMaria for an online summer course and it was a breeze. There are definitely some things you need to study for (mostly quizzes and exams), however, the assignments/projects portion of the class was very easy. Gives great examples to base your assignments off of. As long as you follow the rubric, you should do just fine!
Great professor! Emails back quickly, willing to go above & beyond to work with students & complete missed work. Easy grader. Will easily pass this class if you do the work. Lectures are simple and easy to understand. Group project is a big part of the grade, be sure to be present for that. Easy assignments- papers & 3 quizzes. Highly recommend!!
Overall, this professor's class was awesome. He tries to make class interesting for you. We had no quizzes or tests, the final exam was optional. The only downside is his instructions for assignments are very vague. But if you don't mind emailing him a ton, you will do great. Definitely recommend
He is a tough grader sometimes and insanely vague on assignments with no rubric ever. But he is very reachable and if put effort into his class you will do just fine.
Took another class with Jerry because of how amazing of a professor he is! Very understanding, caring, helpful, accessible outside of class, and puts the student first. Very easy class, helped me understand so much information that I will use in the future. Absolutely love this professor, highly recommend!
This class is pretty straightforward. I saw some reviews on here and it made me curious at first. However, do the homework and be prepared to use Tumblr and you will be fine. Blog posts every week that are not hard and a basic understanding of social media. Fairly simple class for experienced online learners.
Some extra credit was offered for attendance on random days. He marked me down a few points on some assignments and never left comments as to why. Overall though very reachable and he wants to see students do well. Always responded promptly to emails and the final was optional.
Class was overall pretty easy, but there is a lot of work involved. He marks students down a couple of points on every assignment with no reason why. There is a big paper as well as a semester long group project that has a big affect on your grade. Sometimes I found him to be very rude when asking questions.
He is an overall average professor. He says that attendance is not mandatory, but there are 4 pop quizzes throughout the semester according to the syllabus. If you miss one class, he is not understanding and will be hard to reach. He is quite a negative professor as well when it comes to career choices and life. Won't take a class with him again.
Jerry is an awesome guy! He really does care about each of his students and wants them to be successful. He has some really great lectures that are quite engaging. I love his teaching style and the assignments are quite fun. Attendance is not mandatory- but beneficial to attend. I had him at 8am and he definitely wakes me up with his hyper attitude
Jerry is a great guy but his blackboard was super unorganized and he was a tough grader at times. Overall the class is easy but there are group projects and two individual presentations. He is super responsive to emails and explains directions well if you ask questions. I would take another class with him.
Overall, Jerry was a great teacher. Lectures were very entertaining- especially for an 8am. He is high energy and truly cares about his students success. I will say he is a harsh grader, and there are many group projects and presentations. He wasn't very clear on when things were due and didn't ever send out reminders. Overall though, I recommend.
Jerry is the Goat. Everything about his class is interesting and fun, you just have show up. The only downfall is that his blackboard assignments are dated 3 years ago so it's kind of Aids if you use blackboard to check on homework.
fun class, final group project though, man. find some friends who actually care about the class, or else you will probably fail. final exam was optional for our class as well, and if you did take it, and the score was worse than your overall grade, he would just void the grade. you couldn't lose.
I love Jerry, he makes the lessons interesting. He does not tell you when assignments are due. On blackboard he does not put the class materials in the overall calendar which is annoying. But he is amazing. I would suggest him if you are always ontop of your work.
He is a great human being. Amazing teaching style. Classes are always interesting
Don't take this class.
Jerry's class made school feel a little more like real life, I loved the group project, I made new friends and it seamed like his class was one of the only ones I was actually excited to go to.
Can be really frustrating, not a whole lot of structure in his class. He doesn't know how to use blackboard and won't tell you about assignments. He's a nice enough guy but took points off your work and won't tell you why. I would take him again but its unnecessary stress.
Really sweet guy, he genuinely cares about his students and teaches them what the business world is like through assignments: 7-10 page research paper (just get it done), group client project, business portfolio, presentations, interview material reviews. This class was not easy, but if you apply yourself a lot you'll do well and learn.
He is an amazing person who truly cares about his students and their success. This class is very work heavy but you learn a lot of good material that you will use later on in life in the business world. The projects and reports take a very long time and will require you to really do your portion, but if you are on top of things you will do well.
Cool guy but talks a lot and doesn't contribute to actual grading material. Be on top of his coursework, grades based on how he is feeling for the day. Would take again but he drags on lectures.
Jerry's class can be a bit unstructured, but he makes it interesting. Grab some friends and embrace the group project - it's a highlight. unstuck ai was super helpful for study prep too.
I cannot say all the things I'd like to say that is awesome about him. His class is very tough, with a lot of projects and a very long business report, but he always took time to meet with me when I had questions about the projects. If you are considering taking this class or it is required, 1000% switch to Jerry. You will be happy when you do!
Rarely responds to emails, making it extremely difficult to communicate. There are no posted office hours or examples of assignments provided. Grading is often delayed, leaving students unsure of their standing in the class or how to improve. Based on my experience, the professor appears to put in minimal effort.
Jerry was a great teacher with lots of character and personality! He grades tough, so I would recommend just attending his office hours from time to time. This is the key to getting a good grade in the class. If you visit him and get feedback for something before submitting, you'll likely get an A on that assignment.
Jerry was awesome. He was easy to talk to and was able to help with questions related and unrelated to class. He did give a lot of work but as long as you put the time in they were not difficult. He also gave good feedback and truly wanted his students to succeed.
