Show up for the tests and you'll pass. Easy A, boring lectures.
Fun way to go through Stats. Entertaining and helpful. Gave a special project for people to get their grades up. Great teacher.
Great teacher......One of my favorites
Very monotone, and boring. If you suck up to him you can pass with at least a C. Gets harder as the class progresses.
This guy put me to sleep! It got so bad, that in a class of 100, we had maybe 20 show up for class.
He is one of the worst professors I ever had
I took this professor last term and it was frustrating. for a class of 100 student a few went to the class.
Do you want to learn? Then do not take his classes. he is bored and lack of enthusiasm.
He is boring, showing no enthusiasm for teaching. Do not take a class with him. You are going to fail.
Mr. Ellis made this one of the easiest classes ou will ever take. He explains everything thoroughly and gives examples to everything. Makes a lot of the stuff relevant to our everyday lives. Very good teacher. I am going to take him again sometime in the future.
Good teacher, I hate math but he made it as interesting as he could.
Considering that I had him for lecture only once a week, I think he did a good job. He was very enthusiastic about math and I learned a lot.
HE IS AWESOME!! THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER
He is a great guy. Very helpful, let me attend other lectures on days things didnt make sense.

Very amusing instructor. Straight forward and clear about each chapter. He is a very good lecturer.
he is such a funny man, and is always available if you need help! Best math teacher ive ever had.
He was awesome! So much fun in that class, made stats interesting. I failed out of stats w/ another prof, then took it with him, and got a high B! Highly recommend him!
I had him for college alg. too. although he was boring then...he is a great teacher take if you take stats off campus (for example in the cape) great teacher!!!
It seems difficult for him to explain things in their clearest form.
Such a cool guy, he made stat's understandable. i recommend to take him in summer cause the class load is easier and he's more relaxed with assignments. Best math teacher ive ever had.
He is alittle boring, he teaches like a math instructor. I never really went to the lectures. Thanks god for Lab Instructors. I should be getting an A or B+ in the class.
Avoid. If you take him for 2021, you will not learn a shred of new info. If you are unfortunate enough to have him for 2023, you won't learn stats at all, period.
He makes you do everything electronically, which is very difficult. The people in the math labs had trouble with his tests. The only good thing is that he let us take all the actual math parts of tests and quizzes over the computer. Despite that, he will teach you nothing except how to use your graphing calculator or excel.
Great for a summer class, I aced stats with him in 6 weeks, really cool, mellow, acknowledges that none of us care about his subject, and he's ok with that, still tries to make it relevant for you. I totally enjoyed the class I took with him!
mr. ellis is a good teacher...he reminds me of jerry seinfeld...lol he is very understanding. quick tip...go to math lab...they helped me out ALOT!!!! trust me...everyone in mi class and in others were going there for help...GOOD LUCK
He's really funny and has positive energy. He's really good at making you understand the concept during lecture, but you gotta make sure you do the homework to get practice otherwise it can get confusing. His final test had a couple of questions from previous exams to go over those for final exam reviews.
One of the easiest calc classes I ever taken. He teaches really well and also makes sure to stress the important parts. Also, gives you a "summary" before the exam which Ive found to be very useful. Theres a portion of the test which you do at home and submit in class and that will raise ur grade tremendously.P.S.He does sound like jerry seinfeld;)
he's way too scattered and the lectures are not organized or sequential with the book. he usually doesn't answer emails. there was no assingned homework.
AWESOME! It's like having Seinfeld as a teacher. He makes you understand the reasons behind why you use stats. I have a steady B so far in the class... haven't cracked open the book- he makes it that clear. Tests are EXACTLY what you expect. No surprises.
What a goofy teacher, so funny! When it comes to math, he is casual. For tests, he sends you a practice one a week before, which will be what you get the day of with about 10-15 extra Qs. For the final project, he is very lenient. LOVES food, loves to talk about food. Highly recommend him for ANY math course you have to take.
So I just took Ellis for stats this summer. Yes, he truly does sound exactly like Seinfeld... He teaches from the book kinda but for the most part uses his own examples. Tests are easy as long as you pay attention and do your homework.
Took him for Summer A. Nice guy, but not a good teacher. He rambles about unimportant things. In a two hour class, maybe ten things worth writing down. Two tests and one project. DO the practice tests b/c they are basically the exact test. I passed, but did not learn one thing about Stats. Only good thing is I discovered Five Guys b/c of him. Yummy
He was a good teacher. It is a hard subject and he relates to students and compares calc to every day stuff. Sometimes he didn't make complete sense and didn't answer a lot of my questions. He is a good teacher but just jumps into lesson after lesson and having only 3 test grades was bad, but no attendance or any other grades.
Very easy and helpful
im taking finite math with him and its such an easy class. definitely recommend taking it. he gives you 5 tests but drops the lowest score, gives you practice tests before the test (its basically the same questions), doesnt take attendance, and all hw is online.
He is a great teacher who seems to love his job. His class is an hour and 45 minutes be he only teacher for an hour and then lets you go early and you can stay after if you have any questions. Sends out a practice exam before the test and its basically the same. I recommend this professor!! very easy
He is a very nice professor but kind of rambles a lot. If your strongest subject is math and you love it, you will do fine in his class. I had to teach myself alot of the information. Practice exams are exactly the same as the tests though. If you struggle in math, i would avoid him.. he isn't extremely clear when he explains. Overall Okay teacher.
HE DOES SOUND LIKE JERRY SEINFELD AND HE IS FUNNY!! As long as you go to class the homework, quizzes, and tests are easy. I am horrible at math and I got a B!! Make sure you do well on the project and he will help you with it...the project is easy
Professor Ellis is fun. He makes Calculus fun. I love Math and he tells us that we will use it for Science classes and especially Engineering. Also NYC stock market. So happy.
funny guy and helpful
He did not explain things very well. Tests were not formula based... just theory and definitions which helped. Only problem is he gives you a study guide before the test which test is pretty much based on but info. in guide is nothing like what you learned.
He bounces around a lot; but he sent out the answers for every test. Tests consisted of 50 questions he sent out 35 of those questions. Find the answers to questions and you will do fine. He is kind of hard to understand because he is not focused; just ask for help and he will clarify.
Great Professor. Ended up with an 89. Calculus is hard to get an A. Funny
This class is theory based and homework basically has to be figured out on your own. He does not return e-mails and offers little to no outside of class help.
Practice exams are very similiar to exam. he was super funny and tried to apply calculus to every aspect of life. I felt he was completely unavailable and never returns emails, but besides that he has been by FAR the best math teacher I have ever had. He almost made me even like it =P
The class is kind of boring but he's really helpful and most of the practice questions showed up on the test. Took this class over summer, but the final project was interesting and going to class was very beneficial because he shows you what he expects and goes over homework/book problems. Would take his class again
For sure take this class! Easy A for a stats class. Attendance not mandatory and the study guide is very similar to the exams. 3 exams, 1 project. No quizzes or midterm or final! Would recommend this teacher!
Doesn't take himself too seriously. Was understanding when I made a mistake. Understood the material and was successful in conveying how stats can be used in many facets of life.
I took an online course. He doesn't offer any assistance whatsoever. He wants you to grind hours away in the Aleks software and never need him. At least, that's how it seemed. I got 100% just because the final was easy and I did all my coursework. Not because of any extraordinary instruction. To do well, just be ready to teach yourself.
Took his class online. I spent 9-10 hours a week on the ALEKS course. I'm an average math student. I was shocked at how many problems that were required. 311 Topics, 3 problems each, 25 problem quiz every 20 topics. That comes to AT LEAST of 1330 problems. That's if you don't have to redo any of them, which is very unlikely. I did over 2000.
If you close your eyes, you will seriously think Seinfeld is teaching your class. Very entertaining and fun teacher, and the work isn't terribly hard either. The tests tend to have material that isn't in the homework, lecture, or book, so go to study sessions from another class, but no math is in the tests.
Very bad teacher. Does not like to communicate with students in any way. Answers emails no earlier than 2 weeks. Pretty much a teach yourself kind of class and no help whatsoever. Oh and he gets upset when you ask questions. Big waste of my money, it shows that that's what he's only here for. Not really anything I liked about his class.
Just terrible, one of the worst teachers I ever had. I did not learn anything. I was self taught.
Most entertaining math teacher I've ever had. He can go through things pretty fast, but is happy to answer questions. His quizzes were 50% expected, the other half will test your ability to learn on the fly, unless you worked ahead, which he allowed. Very reasonable professor, but can be unpredictable at times.
Fantastic teacher, tests and quizzes were very fair.
His class was very boring, but if you need 3 credits take his class! I ended up with a C+ and never went to class and didnt even try to study. He gives you 35 questions out of 50 so the least grade you can end up with is a C. There's a huge Project at the end. Recommend you start on it early. All homework is online and is not due until end of sem.
Mr Ellis is very amusing and his exams are very fair. In my opinion after retaking stats this is the guy to take. he gives you a review and the same questions are on the tests and there is no final exam.
I began this class assuming it would be difficult like other math courses, but Mr. Ellis was very attentive and helpful. He's got a good sense of humor and although class would get some what tedious, he was defiantly a great teacher. Ended with an A
LOVE this class! I had to take both Stats classes and this was SOOO easy! He emails his students 35 out of the 50 questions WITH answer choices AND doesn't have homework due until the end of the semester with one project to boost your grade! You are guaranteed to pass this class!
If you're not a math person but need to take Stats as a requirement, take it with Ellis! No quizzes, gives exams on every 3 chapters or so. No real final exam, just a project and research paper. He is super cool, funny, and easy-going. He presents the material to you at a level that you can understand. Would definitely take him again.
Easy class horrible professor, Can not teach for the life of him he says if you have a problem with it you can't complain because he is the head of the stats department,Boring gives c4 5 6 test and adds c7 questions were unprepared for,Will not answer emails, no canvas, cant check grades,If you want to pass but not know ANYTHING about stats take it
As long as you show up to class, he will teach you everything you need to know to get an A. He sends out study guides for each test, and the tests are multiple choice instead of long response questions like they are when this course is taught by any other professor on campus. The final is also a project instead of a cumulative exam. Bless this man.
Professor Ellis is one on the best professor I had so far at fgcu. I took him for summer A for pre calc the work load was very heavy but he gave solid reviews and lectures. Ended up getting an A from him. I previously took Sandra Maldonado for spring and ended up with a D she was horrible.
Really great professor! It's a heavy workload and a lot of your learning you have to do at home but he gives identical reviews for his tests if you take pre calc summer A. His stories are also really fun to listen to. For me, if you can at least study and do the the homework every other day then you should leave the class with an A
Took Prof Ellis for Summer A and it was a lot of work! Keep up with the homework. There was a quiz everyday but they were fair and doing the reviews are the only way you can pass his test. Test are fair though. Alot of studying at home and going over concepts but he teaches them well. Good professor overall
Took professor ellis for summer A for pre calculus i really enjoyed his class he is very funny the class was 3 hour long but his humor made the go by fast i wont mind taking him again for calculus 1 i felt his exam reviews were very solid everything i studied on the review was on his exams. there were no surprises or curve balls on his exam.
I was a little nervous having to take elementary Calc but Jerry is a great professor! Pretty easy and funny guy. You could skip his class and get away with it as long as you know what you're doing in calculus. Only five chapters and not much homework. Always do! As long as you're OK and math taken! Not the best teacher so know a little calc!
Ellis' class the way its set up, is really easy, no final, just project, but there is absolutely no point to showing up to class. He teaches nonsense and your real review comes from reading the textbook, or studying his review guides before the exam. His lectures are pointless and this Statistics is basically terms based versus number crunching.
He is not too hard, but tells good story. He teaches the class in a way to make it understandable. Overall, he will be helpful if needed.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. He just rambles on for the entire class period so going to class is a waste of time. Grades are not put into Canvas at all during the semester so you have no idea what your grade is until it is final at the end of the semester. He doesn't show you how to use a calculator so you're screwed on the homework.
He is a nice guy and personable but if you expect to know your grade at all throughout the semester you wont. The tests are all vocab basically so you wont know how to do anything. I have never once used a calculator or have even been taught how and all the homework is calculations. Would not recommend.
During lecture he just rambles abt nothing, no point to go! Be prepared to have someone to pay to do your homework because he does not teach you anything. Tests are easy he gives you 35/50 questions to take home and do before the exams and there is NO MATH on them, just basic principles abt stats. Never went to class and got a B but he's strange.
Took him online and it was the most I've ever understood math - and I'm really bad at math. The hardest part is the homework.
I took him for Calculus 1. And now I am taking him for Stats. Great Professor.
Do NOT take him! He is incredibly hard to understand and is all over the place!! His notes are hard to follow and does not do a good job explaining or teaching! I had to teach myself the material on my own!
I had the past comment about the B below, he is an amazing person didn't even email him about rounding and he haven me an A! Amazing professor. I was harsh during Finals that's my fault for being incredibly rude. Great professor!!!
Awesome professor! Very laid back teaching style which I loved and he knows how to teach stats in a way that is relate able to everyday life. He sets you up to succeed as long as you put in the time to get the homework done. I would highly recommend this professor to any one who is nervous about stats and wants someone who can teach right!
I'm terrible at math and I had to take this class as my last gen ed requirement. Tests are online and I averaged out a C+ after homework and project were put in I had an A. JERRY ELLIS IS THE REAL MVP. Real nice dude. Hate statistics. He made it as interesting as he could. Very understanding. A true hero.
Great professor! He is good at explaining and is pretty laid back. Not a lot of homework. He gives us until the end of the semester to do it all, and the test review sheets are so helpful. There are weekly quizzes, but you review in class right before them. He is not nitty gritty about the grades, just wants you to learn.
Okay, here's the tea. He's really laid back. Although his lectures did not help me at all, HIS STUDY GUIDES ARE LITERALLY THE EXAM WITH A FEW VARIATIONS. DON'T SKIP THEM. Final grade is 50% exams and 50% HW/Quizzes. You could get 50% on all exams and still pass with a C if you ace the HW/quizzes. So glad I took him.
Look you aren't going to understand Elementary Calculus anyways but at least he is nice. TAKE HIM. He tries his best and is understandable of students situations. Like he truly isn't a teacher that wants to see his student fail, calculus is just awful. Hw and tests are online.. Lectures won't be super helpful but Mathway helps 75% of the time.
Professor Ellis is awesome and really respectful guy. If you are taking 2233 I would recommend him. Some of his lectures can be hard for some to pay attention but if you actually take the time to pay attention he is pretty thorough. His grading is very clear 50% for quizzes and homework all online. Homework is a lot for barely 20 question quizzes.
He is a great professor and very understanding of outside personal factors that might be affecting you and your performance in class. He actually cares about you and about passing his classes. If you have the option to have him as a professor, take it. I would 100% have him as a professor again.
Mr. Ellis is a great professor. He cares about all his students and loves to make you laugh. His class isn't difficult and it's very easy to pass. All homework is due the last week of the semester. Would strongly recommend taking his class.
Professor Ellis is an amazing teacher! He is super funny and likes to make the class laugh. All the homework is on Pearson and due during the last week of the semester. The homework is a bit much at times but manageable. I am taking him next semester for STA 2023. Also, the class was in SOVI, which was awesome bc I didn't have to wake up so early.
Literally doesn't teach.
He does like to go off topic and rant about random things. He doesn't really have an exact lesson plan. His homework is pretty lengthy, about 50-75 questions per assignment. Overall, he is funny when it comes to storytelling, but if you are able to learn content all by yourself, you will pass. Attendance isn't mandatory.
I didn't like his teaching style. He is a very laid back teacher & his classes were strictly lecture with no work in class. He doesn't give extra credit at all, other professors do for Math Coaching or study guides. He got distracted a lot & would go on rants. So overall I'd not recommend compared to other professors.
Over all really great professor. Attendance is not mediatory but go to class he notices and likes to help the people who come everyday. Homework is manageable if you stay on top of it. Test are tough but short so study and GO TO THE CLASS BEFORE THE TEST! he gives you every answer! If you go to his class its an easy class to pass!
He can get off topic, but his class isn't bad. If you struggle with math, I would recommend a different prof, but if you are just trying to knock out a math credit with a chill teacher take his class.
Do not take this professor. He is a terrible professor and his lectures do not help you understand the topics he is teaching at all. He often goes off topic and offers absolutely no help. Will not post review guides or worksheets and the homework he assigns has nothing to do with the test. Also offers no extra credit at all.
