Although a nice guy, test are very hard and he is very strict about all the ****in work. Test average was 70percent and there is NO CURVE!!!! I did all the reading and homework yet still got a ****in C. Plus I went to lecture!
this class is no joke. lots of reading and homework will take some time. awesome professor and very knowledgeable.
The class is fairly hard but prof. Evensky does a good job explaing the theories of Economics. He is very helpful and explains things very clearly. He takes his time and makes sure everyone understands the material. One of the best professors i had so far.
Never have I encountered a prof. so hellbent on helping you learn. Evensky puts the material in the context of current events so "when will we use this?" never comes up. ALWAYS available for help and makes material VERY clear. Take his class
he is a tough professor but his class is very interesting and helpful. I went for help and it helped for my grades. No curves but if you show that you are trying hard, he will give you the grade you deserve
One of the best teachers I have encountered. Tests are hard - but DEFINATELY go to SI!
Prof. E is the man. He puts Economics in an applicable / easy to understand way. His book and lectures are one in the same and reinforce each other well. SI sessions are a must. He's smart, engaging (sit up the front or you won't hear him), and has some natural market power in those looks of his...
This class is very tough, and Evensky doesn't make it any easier with his strict grading. The homework assignments are a serious part of the grade and they are graded extremely hard as well, so make sure to put the time and effort into this class or youl find yourself retaking it like I am.
Really got me interested in a subject I hadn't been interested in before. Presents intricate theories in easy-to-remember ways. Very friendly and helpful outside the classroom.
he's just too damn good. SU is so lucky to have a professor who really cares that his students can practically apply what they learn in class in the outside world. he should be teaching in harvard or something. TAKE HIM!! u'll never regret it. and go to the SI sessions especially with SARAH.
He just as grade as I can think!!!!if you do the work and go to SI session, for sure, u will get a A!
Lectures aren't THAT entertaining unless you have interest in the subject. The class is very easy if you attend the SI tutoring sessions. Received an A- without thoroughly reading the book.
Bring a pillow to class...IT IS HORRIBLE
SUcks SUcks SUcks SUcks and SUcks
Not very interisting in class BUT never read the textbook and went to SI sessions and always did well on all the hw. Class is an easy grade as long as you pay attention to certain details that he says which he will make clear to you.
absolutely loved professor evensky. although the lectures are slightly boring (he quotes DIRECTLY from the book) he is a phenomenal teacher. suggest having some interest/open mind toward the subject
Excellent teacher, very good at making things relevant. Lectures are boring but extremely helpful. SI sessions pretty much give you the answers the homework so make sure you go!
He wrote the book. And his lectures are taken precisely from the book (including the jokes!). You couldn't have it any better for an economics class. If you skip a class, just read the book. The review sessions are good too, they'll usually just give you answers (but you may be better off trying to figuring it out for yourself. You'll do better).
Awesome professor! One of my favorites so far. Makes sure everyone understands material. Wrote the text, so lecutres are almost word for word from the book, but it is important to go to understand fully. He is very passionate about the subject, which makes the class fun.
Great teacher.... If you study hard for the previous exams, you will definitely get 80s or 90s in class. He has great knownledge on econ
Stay in bed. You'll wind up sleeping when you get there anyway. So boring and he quotes directly from the book.
Evensky really has great knowledge of the subject matter, and continually presents information in an interesting and understandable fashion!
He wears the coolest ties and knows a lot about economics. He even wrote the textbook for the class, which is usually a good thing.
Excellent professor who is passionate about the subject matter
Great guy. Awesome teacher. Test are harder than the other econ profs, but he's the best one and wrote the book.
If you can get another ECN 203 professor, I would. Classes are kind of hard to sit through, SI sessions really help for homeworks. He wrote the book, so you can basically read that instead of lecture.
Evensky honestly just wants everyone to genuinely understand econ. He's very passionate about it and if you pay attention there's no way you won't understand. You do have to go to class and pay attention and SI sessions help allot.
Honestly this professor is a [insert expletive here]. The guy has the most monotone, dull, boring voice I have ever heard and his class is early in the morning. Half my class was passing out in their seats and Evensky wondered why. He literally teaches out of his own book which in itself in itself is rather vague and boring (like the professor)
really nice man, very friendly, keeps class entertaining. one of the best professors i've had at SU
not a very easy class, but with sufficient effort is not hard to get an A. he is very boring and makes you not want to attend class but he explains things very well. he wrote the book and the exam questions come right out of it so MAKE SURE to do the objectives that he rants about. going to the student assistants is helpful they give answers to hws
14 years removed from Prof. Evensky's class but his lessons have really made a difference in my life. Namely that Economics is not about money, it's about time and how you use it. His philosophy impacts decisions I make every day in concrete ways. What utility do I derive from this decision or purchase and what is the opportunity cost involved?
Horrible, boring & can't explain concepts in different ways. He can't & doesn't even try because he doesn't know how. Old, monotone voice & wonders why people fall asleep in class. Teaches out of the book. Gave up on him & stopped going to class & just focused on studying the book as he teaches verbatim. Take Ashby instead, she's so much better.
Fire this professor.
God help anyone who ends up with Jerry for Econ 203. He tricks you into believing that he doesn't believe in giving grades, but marks off a half-point for something stupid. Retire already Mr.E
I absolutely hated Econ before this class, now I really enjoy it! He is a INCREDIBLE professor. I honestly didn't think his class was harder or took more time than any of more other classes. It was an average workload. I thought he was easily one of the best professors I have ever had, I definitely recommend him
Mr. E is on of the nicest and most helpful teachers out there. I got stuck in Econ and thought it was going to kill my GPA but I went to class and he reviewed everything over and over.He has one of the best teaching styles out there and will bend over backwards for his students to have a good education.
Evensky is a good teacher, if you go to class there's no doubt you'll come out knowing the subject. He will spend the first 20 min of class reviewing so you can miss a class but don't expect to be able to miss too many. Tends to grade kind of hard on midterm/final so do the objectives and memorize the response he wants. Go to SI for a good HW grade
not recommanded! if you want to take ECN 203, take it with Ashby instead. Evensky's exam is hard
Evensky is a good guy and clearly knows his economics. He goes over everything very thoroughly, however he is a VERY hard grader. Midterm and final are basically your whole grade and they are both extremely difficult. Lectures are usually boring but you can miss a few and still be fine.
He is very knowledgable about the material at hand but the way he grades is ridiculous. He's way to tough of a grader and can be very unfair at times! He also may never email you back because he just doesn't feel like it! He can be very rude and puts himself on the pedestal because it's his book but he still is a decent teacher and is very thorough
Take Ashby instead! Evensky is a very unfair grader and his exam is always harder than Ashby's/ He included the whole year on the final where Ashby doesn't.
Overall not a bad prof. He had interesting things to say. He doesn't care if you show up to class or not, but going helps. He re-caps what happened in the last lecture in the first 10/15 min each lecture anyway. do the hw bc it will help your grade and go to SI sessions bc it does the hw for you. really straightforward, old exams on his website
He is incredibly boring. you dont need to show up to class but it helps. His grading hard as hell do not take him. Like I said very boring.
Provides in depth examples from current day issues. Explain policies and economic ideas clearly and efficently. Reviews materials and builds a story and understanding of economics that could be implemented, If you study a little extra and go to SI its easy to succeed.
Good professor. Could get things done but stay relatively loose at the same time. There are only two tests (midterm and final) and they are both a hard if you don't study. As long as you study hard for the tests they shouldn't be too bad. If you do all of the work he assigns, whether he is checking it or not, the class should be fine.
Best professor at Syracuse. Goes over everything in detail. Tests are easy if you study; they look exactly like his exams from previous years which are on his website. I barely ever studied and got an A.
Great professor. Really cares about teaching and making sure students understand, but you have to be willing to put in a solid effort, do the reading, study, etc. Not an extremely work intensive course, but if you follow along and go to class you'll be fine. Previous exams are very helpful for studying! Also go to SI because homeworks matter.
A great professor that requires constant attendance and applications of his teachings into real life examples. his tests are relatively similar to those of previous years and concepts are easy to understand if one thinks about it in relevance to things they commonly understand. Sometimes he might go off tangent but that's only because he loves econ
Was a very interesting class and professor evensky was helpful and made the class worth attending. if you attend youll make a good grade.
Really good teacher. Very smart and knows exactly what he's talking about. You don't even need to go to class. I went maybe once a week. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the test. As long as you study a lot and are somewhat intelligent you can get an A
He is Very helpful. He gives a short 10-15 minutes review at the beginning of each class. HW questions are hard but if you go to SI, they are easy. Tests are easy if you study and read the textbook. The textbook is extremely helpful. He wrote the book.
LOVE HIM! Evensky is one of the best professors I've had. He's so nice and loves what he teaches. No quizzes or attendance. Just homework, midterm and final. The homework is harder, but if you go to SI the TA's basically give you the answers and a 10/10 is easy. Midterms and finals are just like the ones he posts online. Just study, go to class= A!
Literally loved his. His class is great and an easy social science. He sets you up for success. There is weekly homework and a midterm and final. The homework is easy if you attend SI and he gives you many practice midterms and finals. Just overall great class!!!!
This man is great. Every professor should strive to care as much as he does. The class is easy if you can follow the major concepts of Economics. Great professor overall.
I took Evensky's class in the spring of 2013. There is no attendance in class, however first year students are required to attend a supplemental instruction session. If you attend these sessions, you are almost guaranteed an A on all home work assignments. Do the practice exams, and the important concepts mentioned in class and you should get an A
He is a great professor. He really knows how to teach and makes the lectures really fun and easy. If you go to his office hours, he is super helpful.
He posts all his slides on blackboard and attendance is not mandatory. He spends a lot of time reviewing which is helpful, but he also speaks really quickly and doesn't give much time to copy slides in class. He requires SI sessions where you basically just do the homework for 20 minutes.
He is so ridiculous, he mandated us to give feedback weekly online through SAGE, however after I left a message that 'please speak louder during classes', the feedback after my message was horrible. that person warned me that Professor Jerry is incredible good and don't tell anything bad about him. WTF!
Evensky is a great guy and teacher, but his grading system is so wrong. Only way to study for the tests are by studying previous exams which in my opinion is wrong. If he really wanted students to learn the subject he should offer more assessments. TA sessions are helpful but only at giving answers.
you can get a A if you read books and do your homework and attend recitations. He's a nice guy n Nice enough to explain the topic again and again using different examples
He is an amazing professor! He explains everything very clearly and always asks if anyone has questions throughout the class. Attendance isn't taken, but i would suggest coming to class because it is extremely interesting and helps you understand a lot! If he offers the SI Sessions make sure you go because they help you with the homework!
READ THE BOOK. Very concerned about you learning the material, but ultimately probably the toughest grader that I've ever encountered.
He is good at explaining the concepts and he really loves what he teaches. He encourages us to apply what we have learned in the class to the real world such as the business section of newspapers. Homework is kind of challenging but if you put effort and go the the TA's session you will be fine. Overall the grading policy is fair.
Very good teacher. The lectures are just like his textbook, though (which he wrote.
Strongly recommend to take this course. 4 HW, 2 Quiz, Midterm, Final. All you need to know is from the book, that he wrote by himself, or the Slides which are always posted on Blackboard. Not that difficult to get an A but he is a tough grader, you should study a bit.
Evensky is one of the best professors at this school. His lectures are gold, and his exams and quiz's are very straight forward. Economics itself isn't the easiest to get an A in, but it won't come easier than with Evensky.
Number one thing about this class is the lectures are rough. He isn't the most interesting person to listen to but the material is there. I read the book mostly (which he wrote) and it was the same as the lectures. He doesn't return homework, tests, or quizzes which i didn't like and I always felt like I should have gotten better grades than I did
Evensky is so great! He really cares about his students not just passing but also learning the material. He is very accommodating when you ask questions and likes to engage everyone by asking lots of questions. The tests are tough but if you study and go to SI (required for freshmen) it should be pretty easy to do well.
Professor Evensky is the sweetest man. He's a great teacher and truly cares about his students. SI (supplemental instruction) sessions are review sessions each week and they are beneficial. Read the textbook and look at the objectives in the back of the book and you can definitely get an A.
I love Professor Evensky. He makes a tough subject accessible and really cares about the education of his students. Plus he's adorable.
He has good intentions, and he loves economics, but it isn't always translated well in the classroom. His lectures are word for word the book, so you can either listen in class or read. Also he has all the quiz questions in the objectives in his book. The tests are very hard but if you listen and go to SI you'll be fine. his grading is confusing
Amazing professor. Really cares about the topic and wants to see you succeed. Not a ton of work outside of reading.
I truly enjoyed this course and Evensky is a sweetheart. I will admit I did not attend every lecture, but when I did, he did a great job of explaining the concepts we needed to know for his quizzes/exams. Sometimes it was difficult to pay attention early in the morning, but his enthusiasm for econ was always evident.
He's the nicest man ever. You don't have to go to lectures to do well. But you MUST read the textbook. Quizzes, which are worth a solid amount in his class, have questions that come straight from the textbook.
A great professor who cares for his students to not only do well but to understand the content. He is monotone at times and hard to hear but he is willing to make accommodations if you speak up but lectures are very organized. If you put in work, look in the he wrote, and do the practice tests, you will do great. Highly recommended for take him.
He is a very sweet person and I can feel he really cares about his students. He makes sure everyone understands the materials before he goes on. The work load is not heavy at all. And the SI sections are very beneficial. Just make sure you read through the powerpoint, textbook, go to SI sections and you will be fine.
Professor Evensky is the best. He cares about students a lot and wants you to succeed. Everything you need to do great in the class is given to you. Do the objectives, go to SI for hw and quizzes, and read the textbook and you'll do fine.
If you're taking this class with friends, share a book. If you go to lectures, the only thing the book is good for are the objectives and I only looked at it for tests. Straightforward with what he expects and what's on the test. Go to lectures and SI and you're set. Really funny and sweet, makes class interesting and really cares for students.
Evensky is very clear about his expectations. Class is difficult but enjoyable. Lectures are not mandatory, but you'll understand material much better if you go. Attend the SI sessions, they are a huge help! Must have the book, or share with a friend as you'll need it to understand the objectives, which are all the questions on exams and quizzes.
Prof. Evensky is an okay professor with the exception that he doesn't speak loudly enough to be heard. It seems as though his microphone is never on and in lecture. Don't take this class if you aren't able to teach yourself because you will not be able to hear him unless you sit in the front row (which is always full).
I hate economics, but Professor Evensky was a very sweet, older man that shows a passion for teaching. I worked hard in this course to get the grade I got, but he was always willing to answer any questions any one has.
Professor Evensky is a sweet old man, but his teaching skills are sub par. He wrote the textbook and a lot of the concepts are made up so don't expect to use other sources to learn what you cannot understand from class. His lecture notes leave lots out so you have to take note if you can hear him which is rare.
Doesn't grade his own material, all grades are written short answers so you have to know the material very well. TA's who grade the material can barely explain why you got points off because their english is so bad
Professor Evensky was a very passionate, knowledgeable instructor. He states explicitly that his goal is not necessarily good grades, but a good economics education. Grading was fair, although every grade was based off short-answer responses which required me to understand the topics in depth. Not the easiest ECN 203 professor, but the best.
He's one of the best lecturers ever but don't sit in the back. He wrote the book so read the book and you'll get what he's talking about. Literally only like 10 things in the grade book, not even, so you have to do well on everything. Attendance is never mandatory so beware of falling behind. Reading the textbook will seriously help though!
Great guy, highly recommend him to anyone. He doesn't take attendance for his lectures so you don't have to show up but I wouldn't skip all the time. He's very informed, and he spells out exactly what he's looking for on the tests. I took the Honors Section of the course and liked it a lot. He's also available for help outside of class
Best economics professor cuse has to offer. He really knows the material and only cares about making sure the students understand whats going on. He wrote his textbook so you dont need to buy the book if you go to class because the lectures and slides are right out of the book. Put in any effort whatsoever and you'll do alright.
One of the best professors I've ever had! Professor Evensky is organized, thoughtful, kind, and well-versed. His class isn't easy, but if you put in the work (going to SI, asking questions, reading every week) you'll get a good grade. He is an expert in the field and wants everyone to succeed.
Very smart guy, he wrote the textbook for the class so really knows what he's talking about. He does tend to mumble and skip through some slides pretty quick. The class has study sessions mandatory for first year students which are like recitations and make the class really easy. He is clear in what he wants you to learn.
Hes really nice, you could probably pass by just reading the book and going to SI (hell explain what that is) but the lectures are not that bad. Tell him to speak up, he doesn't mind
Professor E is a good person when he's lecturing the classes, but if you want to get good grades on his quiz or exam (graded by TA probably), you have to be really careful when doing it, it's not easy to get good grades. What I recommend to say is: Good Luck!
Evensky is probably one of my favorite professors at SU. He is very kind, and really wants his students to learn. He is very clear with his standards and if you put even minimal effort into his class you can pass. If you want to learn more about econ, he is the way to go!
Great person, but lectures are sometimes hard to follow. I suggest going to SI to get a better understanding of the material and ask more in-depth questions. Homeworks, quizzes, and exams are graded very strictly. Make sure you memorize key points with key words.
This class was one of my favorite classes freshman year. All you have to do is read the textbook to get an A. He wrote the book so everything on the exam is in there. If you don't like reading, attend SI they will teach you everything and basically give you the answers to the homework. You don't even need to go to class.
Not that hard of a course. You don't need to go to class and you don't really need to buy the textbook because the SI just gives you everything you need to know for the tests and quizzes.
I was forced to take this class because I came into school undecided. Professor Evensky wouldn't really help me at all during class because I had no idea what I wanted to do. Anytime I would asked him for help he'd basically talk down to me for not knowing what I was majoring yet. Condescending and rude during 1 on 1 situations
