PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
easy! attendance not mandatory!
very good professor. class pretty interesting. exam only based on his notes. one paper to write on a book he makes you buy.
Boring!!!! He sounds like the guy he does the commerical for clear eyes(Ben Stein). Exams are multiple choice with an easy essay on it. Overall he's an ok teacher.
He's easy. OMG, it's true..he does sound like Ben Stein..clear eyes..dry eyes...lol..no need to read the textbook, copy his notes and do the report and you will get an ace
One Word Says It All: EASY!
easy class. just study. i got an A- only cuz i didnt study for the first test
Like everyone else said, just copy all the notes and do the assignments on time and you'll get an A. By the way, the assignments are not hard at all, just gotta look thru the websites he gives you on blackboard (all the answers are there).
awesome teacher, funny and interesting. sit somewhere upfront, you might start private conversations in the back and forget to take the notes which are 100% of his tests. I recomand!
doesnt get any easier. the best prof. tests are very easy if u know ur stuff, he reviews everything the day b4 the test, jsut take the notes, and ur garuanteed a 90+, assignments are easy, all answers are on the sites. highly recommend
he sounds a lil ghey but hes mad ez
He is the best professor! He's easy and there's basically no work for his class. He's nice and funny. Tests are easy if you read over your notes once or twice. Take him if you can!
Sounds like a televangelist!!! His tests are really easy all you need to do is take notes. Got a B+ only cuz i blew off the first test.
One of the best professors I had at Baruch, take him and take this class if you can...take notes and do a little reading and you'll ace every test...
Do the reading, take notes,& study for the exams. You'll pass. Simple & easy. Nice guy, kinda funny, but can be boring sometimes.
Just take notes and you will do well. Skim the text when studying for the test. That's all I did and I got an A. Very cool teacher.
easy class if you study up.
very interesting. lots of notes, really lots of notes but very helpful during tests. has a very, very hot assistant.
Cool professor. funny at times and gives lots of notes.TO pass his class, just go over the notes...u dont even need to read the book. NO homeworks, no projects, no problem!
makes the course a lot more interesting then it really is. clear, funny, and not too difficult. must study for the test and take notes. doesn't care about attendance.
good professor, gives a lot of notes, dont need to read the book. no projects, just internet assignments.his lectures are not boring, you'll like him!nice guy
Very easy teacher if u take notes and read over them. And yes, there are alot of notes. The whole lecture is notes! But other than that, its not too bad. Only two internet assignments.Could care less whether you show up or not.
A LOT of notes, but very nice and funny professor. Doesn't take attendance. Tests are okay. Highly recommended.
his monotonous voice lures me to sleep..he has a lot of helpful notes that are very easy to comprehend..jus study his notes and you're gonna get a good grade. and don't buy the purple book, it's a waste of money! lol
great prof. easy, long notes n long class but its very easy, just by the book he wrote, and read his notes, doesnt take attendance HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
snoozed my way to an A-. boring because it is a big class and easy to sleep in. lots of notes. tests come straight from the notes. reuses the same tests year to year and similar questions for the final. take him hes fairly easy.
he's very monotone but the material is easy n he makes it straightforward but ur writing long ass notes
he is not as easy as people say, you have to read both books and know everything he goes over in class.
Easy class, easy teacher, easy subject. Although it's boring it's not rocket science so you'll definately pass. The book is useless though.
pretty easy class!!!! but u gotta go to class everyday and take notes. tests are from notes. i didn't even read the textbook. u gotta do all the other stuff he wants u to do and u'll do well in this class
Easy!! Midterm, 2 short papers and Final. Q's on Final were exactly the same on the Midterm; ended up with a C- because I was lazy;don't buy book because exams are based on his notes;exams are M/C, vocabulary and a short reading section with questions
Easiest class i ever took. Don't bother buying the books. Just write down the notes (which are basicly a bunch of lists), memorize the ones he highlights in the Test review in the class before the test and its an easy A. Looks kind of like mr.rogers.
There is ALOT of notes. Don't bother buying the books because all the information you need for the test will be in your notes. He is very funny and keeps you interested. The class isn't hard but I wouldn't say it's extremely easy either you have to do a good amount of studying.
Interesting course, even in the summer. 2 pretty easy exams and a final.
A very nice prof. who knows how to make a boring subject interesting. It is an easy course, even though you still have to study quite a lot to get an A. 6 quizes- very very easy, 2 mid and a final, but very much staright forward.

The class material is pretty easy. He makes the class very interesting. You have to attend class and take notes if you want to do well. I highly recommend
Awesome professor. 6 quizzes unannounced, 2 midterms/1Final, but very very straightforward. Study all notes and pay attention in class, and very possible to get an A. makes class interesting and funny. Very very nice.
some what simple. 6 quizes and 3 test. go to class and study, you need to know details. two of the books can be borrow from the library.
It's an ok class.
very funny & laidback teacher, doesnt take attendance and told us he dont care if we show up, but the class was full every time, all notes are on blackboard, but u should take them in class as well, we had to read 2 good books and answer 20 quest for them (40 pts each), 2 semi-hard test (100pts each), and then a 120pt final, overall very fun class
this class was fun he did a good job of making it somewhat entertaining. but his test can be unclear. he tells u to study this part for the test but then the whole chapter ends uup being on the test TRICKY. but overall it was goo i guess
He is really good teacher, can make boring class like government much more interesting. Take him if you do not want to sleep in your PUB 1250 class.
Professor Mitchell is the man..he truly makes a boring subject entertaining. I would recommend him to anyone just because of his teaching style. His tests weren't that bad and we had to do two reports on pretty interesting books (just answering 20 common sense questions for each one)..Very laid back guy, no attendance, but everyone still showed up.
his tests are so confusing! i was studying so much and got C+ at the and. messed up all my grades. dont take him if you care about your GPA!!!!!!!!!!
He made a boring class really fun- did not use the textbook at all. He is really entertaining and no one sleeps in his class. He gives a lot of notes but thats all you need. Generally a good person- you have to do some work obviosuly if u want an A but its NOT difficult. take the class with some friends and you will for sure have a blast- take him.
Highly recommended - He's funny and the class is so entertaining. Mitchell has a great way of engaging the whole class in conversation without it seeming forced. He knows when to lecture and when to just let the conversation go where it may. I love his classes! Plus, he goes out of his way to show how the material is applicable to everyday life.
He is one of the Best teacher that I have come across. He is really easy. Curves grades. What else do u want? There are 3 exams, one book report and one newspaper assignment. It is not difficult at all. I didn't know anything about American Government but still managed to get an easy A. I am an international student and this was my first semester.
Honestly guys, I took ap poli scie and its all the same stuff..... so i already know the material he teaches but his tests are tricky... you just have to make sure you remm stupid details from class.... but besides that one downfall the class its self is sooo much fun and he is so funny... attendance not mandatory but takes attendance randomly....
very easy, straightforward. he gives you all the info. you need for the exams. pay attention in class. take good notes, and its a GUARANTEED A. easy book report (book was Fast Food Nation) and easy assignment. MT and Final. he tells you everything you need to know. and you actually learn. RECOMMENDED>
He's a very knowledgable professor that will makes class fun. I'm not the type who likes tests and memorization, so u can expect a lot of notes and a lot of studying. His class is extremely entertaining and u will not be bored, I promise.
Sure you will get an A.... If you are willing to spend 5 hours a day studying everyday. There is no doubt he is a great prof. I learned so much, at the cost of hours and hours of doing bookreports and newspaper reports and studying
Fair grader, easy, notes on blackboard, test are all known things just need to memorize. fun and funny class, engaging. have his "hot seat" people. answers ur questions right away. I'm not good at memorizing, so grades aren't as suspected, but it's my fault. the class is yes.
there is nothing bad i can say! very entertaining classes. all notes r on blackboard. tests are easy!! book reports are easy (btw i hate reading) and i did amazingly well. take him if u get the chance
The prof managed to make a dull class entertaining. Exams are not hard, but can be very specific. More works than expected - two exams plus four book reports. But overall an interesting class.
I completely agree with the previous comments. I expected the class to be boring, but was pleasantly surprised. He is a quite interesting professor, but tough at the same time. Lots of reading is expected.
Here's how it works: you must read 4 ridiculous books and answer 5 questions for each book. Midterm and final is in class - 30 multiple choice questions + 5 definitions + 5 essay questions. Each question consists of 5 sub-questions. Don't believe what he says - must read everything he posts, memorize numbers and important dates. Good luck!
Four papers--all very easy, reading books and writing about them. Exams--professor cherry picks information, know the little stuff. No matter how much you think you know, study the little stuff. It's not your retention of the major topic, it's the regurgitation of small facts.
the class is very interesting and you dont want to miss it! three tests are fair but you need to read both the textbook and the readings he posts on blackboard otherwise you probably cannot score high. You will learn a lot in his class, HIGHLY RECOMMANDED!
I'm finishing up his class for this semester, and yes he is a very good professor. Takes attendence twice in the whole semester which counts for 5 pts each so u better make sure u are there both times. book report and newspaper assignment all fairly good. Tests are hard because u have to memorize ALOT of info. esp 4 the final
Great professor. explains well. makes class interesting. discuss relevant topics. excellent overview of public affairs subjects. witty, smart, and mixes art with politics - A+ for originality!
Are you kidding me? This guy is borrring? I want my money back! If you want an easy A, take his class. If really want to learn, don't. Does not take attendance either, i guess he could care less if you're there...
zzzz.....uninspired. monotone voice. I am an older student and see why the younger kids like him: an "easy A." He offers nothing I can use.
Most annoying professor I've ever had. Grading is random - especially on exams, where he asks obscure questions seemingly testing if you were awake in class, but having nothing to do with your comprehension of the subject matter. Did NOT like him AT ALL.
Excellent instructor. Interesting speaker. Well planned program.
Short semester - a lot to learn. Midterm, book report (about eminent domain), final. Make you think, doesn't impose his opinion, stimulate discussions. Have the ability to tie book information to life & politics. Exams are not hard if you're present in classes and engage in discussions. This professor is the reason I'm still in Baruch MPA program!
he is not a hard grader. He lets you get extra points on the final, (he has his own grading system). During the semester 1 book report and 1 news paper report, both are really easy and interesting to do. If you have brains and opinion on a subject- u'll be fine, participate in class. His class is interesting.
Very enthusiastic about the material. Although he gives a lot of assigned reading, he only gives a few reports to write, no assignments, and 2 clear cut exams. His exams were not very challenging, but I do admit I learned some useful new information throughout the course. I recommend him.
Quite Honestly, one of the best professors I have ever had throughout my career as a student. He shows enthusiam in his class, encourages class discussion, very funny & down to earth, and cares for his students. I highly recommend him.
Sincerely good and geniune professor, interested in what he does. Stimulates discussion and involvement. Lots of reading, tough exams, will throw curveballs. But you learn a lot and that is what is most important. Highly recommended.
I wish all professors were like Jerry. He truly enjoys teaching, and that is hard to find. He made dry and unexciting material really engaging and worthwhile. He's a great guy.
Loved him! He made dry material bearable, he was even funny! The midterm and final were A LOT and he gave 4 book reports on books not directly related to the tests. I would definitely recommend taking class with Mitchell!
Interesting class, good professor. He does assign a lot of work (4 reports). The exams are long and he expects you to remember numbers and other small, insignificant facts. Overall, a great professor.
Professor Mitchell's intro class is great! You will learn useful information for the remainder of your classes, and in fact you may learn more in this class in one lecture than you would in a semester in someone else's class. Plus he's funny! It's not an easy A, but you can get one if you work hard.
Professor Mitchell is engaging--he teaches you about Public Affairs but his course is very demanding. 4 book reports are spaced out within two weeks of one another, and a mid-term and final which will make you study the details of every concept you can come across. If you want to learn, take him.
Very good speaker, funny and knowledgeable, but you don't have to come to class if you don't want to. Exams are based on his slides and you don't need to learn many details. Easy A, the only negative to this class was the report he assigned (Little Pink House), which is like Lifetime TV in book form.
Professor Mitchell is very nice and sweet though his class is NOT easy! It would be an easy class if his tests weren't so hard, but you have to study a lot in order to do well. We also had to write a book report for a 400 pg book which I felt was unnecessary. He posts all grades on BB so you will have an idea of what your final grade will be.
One of the best teachers at Baruch; you can learn a lot from his class always keep students interesting; really recommend this professor
2 Exams, a cumulative Final, 2 writing assignments ( a news paper "clippings" and a book report on 'Little Pink House'). Exams are 50 MC and 2 essay questions. Attendance is taken only twice which counts for your grade. Don't let him learn your name or he'll pick on you every class, he did it to me haha
If Anthony Bourdain was a professor, it would be a lot like Prof. Mitchell. He's a fascinating character with limitless knowledge about Public Policy. Easy-going, but loves to play devil's advocate. Class includes a book report, city tours, midterm and final. He likes students to express opinions and talk in class. He will call out your name.
interesting, engaging, nice, and easy to talk to. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
Professor is AMAZING! The books that are required for reading are all super interesting and thought provoking. The professor has a great sense of humor, is a fair grader and loves to play devil's advocate which always involves the whole class in discussion.
Took his class online, requiring alot of time and work. But overall great experience read 3 books did 3 reports and weekly quizzes. I recommend taking this class with his professor if you have the time to dedicate. He is clear and concise about public adminstration and wrote the textbook used in his class
My favorite prof in MPA program so far. Books are interesting. I love how he plays devil's advocate to get the class talking. Learned a ton. His exams are tough. You need to prepare. They're long but fair. Quick to grade papers. Offers feedback. Overall great class. Looking forward to taking him again.
Professor Mitchell clearly loves what he teaches and loves to play devil's advocate! His course includes 4 book reports (the books are really great) and an online midterm and final. If you put the work in you will get an A.
I was able to experience USA's complex government structures, public policy, public affairs and history. Professor Mitchell seeks for his students to be inquisitive and critical. We read 4 books tackling different areas of public affairs / policy. The articles provided were amazing and inspirational. This is a heavy reading / writing course.
Mitchell's lectures are interesting but the class is lacking in structure. He grades the first two assignments hard (so don't get discouraged), does not offer feedback even when you reach out, and then gives full credit on the last two assignments to boost your grade. The first half of the class is 10th grade US government, waste of time but easy.
Professor Mitchell is not everyone's cup of tea but I remain a fan. He has endless knowledge about U.S. history and able to provide both sides of a policy discussion/argument. His first essay was graded harshly but he then inflates grades later on in the course. Funny character, but not everyone agrees.
Mitchell teaches a middle school course and he does it poorly. He knows less than you do about public affairs and politics. The work is easy and boring. If you have to take his section of Intro to Public Affairs, you'll learn nothing, but read the readings and write clearly and you'll get to move on to electives with an A.
IDC sucks no matter who you take. Mitchell is a solid choice bc he doesn't weigh your whole grade on a few things. There's 3 600 word posts where you review 3 books (never read any of them), 2 exams (all the answers are from the slides), and the final project which is a website (dont leave it for last minute you have the whole semester for it)
This asynchronous course was the most organized course I've taken to date. Due dates and expectations were very clear. 4 book reports, a midterm, and a final. Book choices were very interesting. Might be hard for someone who isn't a great writer. This course was a lot of work but it is a lot of material to cover. Overall recommended.
take him, easy A
nit-picky but alright
Reading material is good, but when asked to actually teach, he falls short. Lots of people were struggling with one specific component of the papers. When I asked him to point out a good example because I learn that way, he said told me to go look at my classmates papers. Not very helpful since most people seemed to struggle.
The tests were exercises in using indexes of books quickly.
One of the most organized asynchronous courses I have done. The books were very interesting and engaging. There is a lot to read. But, if you have gone through all the books and his lectures, everything becomes very easy. He is also a very kind and compassionate Professor. I would definitely take him again.
Didn't understand the memo criteria at first. But he is great. Took us for a field trip in the end.
