Very helpful if you're having trouble, goes out of his way to make a connection on a confusing topic. He is entertaining when not in lecture, and quite funny sometimes. GREAT FISHERMAN! If you get him talking about fishing, he will talk forever!

these ppl dont even know what their course is called theyre are unattentive lazy he gives you practice problems so that you can PRACTICE and this becomes a part of portfolio, therefore increasing your grade. if you do the practice, and ask for help when you need it, good attendance, youll be fine.

Very Cool professor and he's also a Christian if you are looking for a Christian professor. Math is kinda tough, but he is very helpful.

Always ready to give extra help if needed. And trust me i needed it. Yes he does pick favorites in the class but who cares as long as he helps you pass. This is the third time i've taken algebra and he was the only one I was able to pass with.

He gave a lot of homework and challenging tests. He was a little rough but he offered help all of the time and he even tried to stay on level with us by joking around and making math fun. All in all if you pass his class then you are definately ready to move on to the next course. so good job:)

This was a fairly easy class. Prof is willing to help students who come to his office. You have the option of doing homework or not, but I would reccommend it if your test scores are going to be lower. Gives credit for work done, not just for answers. Friendly and upbeat.

I think he was very hard! He is very helpful, but very hard! Doesn't give too many breaks! Tests are extremely hard! I am a math person and could not do well on one test in that class and I studied constantly for this class. Way too hard.

This is a hard class, it requires work on the students part. If you are not willing to do your homework/practice prob's, then don't expect a grade higher than a C. Prof. Shawver is excellent! Most of the bad ratings come from students who don't do their part and expect something for nothing.

He's amazing. I'm horrid with math, and with his help, I made an A in statistics. No long equations for statistics - it's all calculator work! Very comprehensive instruction.

He had a great way of explaining things. And if you didn't get it one way he would find other ways for you to learn. He was always available for outside help. Nice looking too :)

The previous comment on here was someone who failed the class I was in...so maybe thats why he didn't like it and gave this professor a bad rating...lol He is a great teacher, but its up to you to find out...and btw, he is a Christian too which is even cooler!

he gives alot of chances to get help, but i accidentally took an accellerated course so it was alot of work.

class is hard. only take him if you can keep up in a fast pace. i wouldnt reccomend it if you are bad at math. other than the class being hard, he is really nice and after every class he will help you with whatever you have a problem with. and if you miss ONE day, you are really behind.

He teaches accelerated courses. So, if you don't want to put effort and a little bit of time into it then DO NOT take him. He is VERY good teacher and helps you out A LOT! He gives you options for your grade which is VERY nice b/c you always have a chance of getting a C. I like him and will take him for stats.

In all honesty, I think he is one of the best professors I have ever had. I took him for Algebra and then took him again the next semester for Statistics. Before Prof. Shawver I HATED math. Now I finished College Alg. with an A and actually have an interest in math. His explanations are very clear and gives plenty of practice problems/study guides to make sure you know the material. He actually has a personality/sense of humor unlike some teachers.. I already signed up for his Stats class!

Shawver was a great professor. He gave me more than a adequate chance at passing his class. He made concepts easy to comprehend and was over all a great professor.

Not easy material for most. Lesson are presented clearly. 8-week class goes at a fast clip....so doing daily homework and assigned problems is a must, otherwise expect to fall behind, do poorly. Good class if you make the commitment.

Took the 8-week class. Very helpful with the practice problems. DO THE HOMEWORK weekly and do not get behind because it is difficult to catch up at the end of the class. He gives you many opportunities to bring up your grade and always keeps you informed. I hated math until i took this class because he makes you want to learn HOW it's done.

You can only miss four days in the class. He has two ways of grading: you either not do homework and only have grades based on test scores or count both tests and homework.

Prof. Shawver is a laid back guy with a good sense of humor. I took him for Stats as well as College Algebra and received an "A" in both. I highly recommend him, but buy a TI-83 or TI-84 and get to know it a little prior to class (just play around with it) as you will use it heavily in his classes. he does, however show you exactly how to use it.

I just finished his College Algebra class with a B. I took MAT1033 and it is pretty much the same, just different material. He has the same procedure and grading policy. hint: If you do have trouble with this class, MATH LAB really does help! I passed with a B and I usually pass with a mid-low C in math!

I took Shawver for both my College Algebra and Stats and did well in both. I am HORRIBLE at math and he was the perfect teacher because he really helped me...not only to pass, but to actually understand it...and now I'm very thankful because I do use some of the stuff I learned in every day stuff... Very easy going teacher. Doesn't bore you. If your not a huge fan of math, this is the guy. Gives you multiple ways to pass the class. Take just the tests and final, or do the homework so tests aren't counted as much. It's your choice.

with this prof. u only get 2 test(2 attempts)1 final(1 attempt)which r worth 65% of ur grade so if u mess up on 1 of them u will fail-12 wk class 8 quizzes(take as many times as u need) but even wit 80 n above on them doesnt help grade much homewrk not much credit 4 either he is helpful n reviews test n fixes grade if mathxl is rong

Took the Sirius class with minimal lecture the first 15-20 min. Book is written by the instructor, so he grasps that people have different learning styles, very helpful. Attend class and don't get behind...utilize the Math Lab on campus. Professor Shawver is somewhat entertaining as well. If you are looking for a solid foundation of math, take him.

I took Prof. Shawver Spring 2011 (16wks)- I LOVE HIM SOOO MUCH!!! 5 Quizzes, 8 DB posts, 11 assignments, and 3 proctor exams. Weekly/ daily emails, responds sooo quickly to questions, and ALWAYS available. He's phenomenal!!! Not the easiest course but he sure makes it worthwhile. Utilize the Math Lab! I'd DEF. recommend him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is a good professor, but I didn't do well in the class. I took it online and basically taught myself. But he did respond to emails rather quickly. I just think I made a mistake taking a math class online. If you are not that good at math take him in class and it will be much better.

GREAT ONLINE CLASS! I watched the video and read the book and completed the class in 3 weeks. I would have completed in 2 if I could have gotten earlier testing dates. You can enrol early for your midterm and final to save time. I completed 3-4 chpts a day. He is very responsive and even called me after the first week. I hope MAT1033 is this easy.

MAT 1033 online class was lots of work! Was very hard for me after being out of school for years single with kids. Prof Shawver will hold your hand through all of it. I could not have passed without all his support & attentiveness.

Mr. Shawver is awesome, hands down. I took an online class over the summer that required nonstop homework almost everyday. He really cares about you and is there when you need him. I didn't use my textbook one time the whole class. I def recommend taking him. Just stay focused and he will help!!!

I really enjoyed him as my professor. I liked that he took the time to call and check up on you if he seen you were struggling. He also sent out weekly reminders of what was due and words of encouragement. I am not going to lie it was a lot of work taking this class online but I can say I really feel like I learned a lot.

Professor Shawver was so incredible! The class is not an easy A, but if you keep up with your work and don't get behind you will be in good shape. Be sure to do practice exams he gives before each test multiple times, and be sure to master the specific type of problems on the practice exam as those will be the exact type of questions on the test.

Professor Shawver, is by far the greatest professor i've had so far. I had him for an 8am class, and he always made us laugh. He is really helpful, you move at your own pace, but it is still really easy!

Great professor! His class is not easy, but he communicates well and is very organized. The tests account for 75% + of the grade. If you get a bad score you are allowed to re-take the test one time. Make sure you study and redo the practice tests over and over.

I took Shawver for Intermediate and College Algebra. I was horrible in math and would have nightmares over it, and ended up with a B! He is very enthusiastic and helpful. Most of the work is done with a TI-84 calculator which he posts videos to tell you how to do the work with it. I would take him over and over again.

It's my first semester of college, and at first I was a little nervous about taking this class because it's hybrid, but Prof Shawver is awesome!! He's very straight to the point and very funny too. He kept me entertained the whole class & I enjoyed coming. He's very quick to reply to emails if you need help and updates grades quick. I recommend!!

He is very nice! He emails useful websites and videos to help you with homework. The work might be a lot, maybe because I took it online with a little amount of time. As long as you do your work on time you will pass. I recommend him to people who are willing to do their work on time!

I struggle with math and am the furthest thing from a fan, however, this is the second math class that I had with Professor Shawver and I actually enjoyed it. He is extremely helpful and always there to give you any additional instruction that you may need. He is by far the best professor that I have ever had.

Professor Shawver was very helpful, it was an 8 week course so there was a lot to do in a little time, very quick communication, helped stay on track with occasional reminders. If you study and follow the syllabus you will do fine, would take Prof. Shawver again.

Professor Shawver is a great teacher, answers all questions to the fullest ability. You wont test on anything he hasn't gone over. Work is easy if you pay attention, he explains everything in detail.

I took MAT0028 and MAT1033 with Prof. Shawver. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is extremely patient and very helpful. I would not have made it through the class without him!

Professor Shawver is amazing. He has a great personality is witty and sarcastic, but in a good way. He makes his classes interesting and makes maths fun. Strict deadlines and a lot of material to work through, but if you work ahead, you don't have to listen to the lectures. You stay in the back and keep working. There are master students to help

I took the 16 week Precalculus course using MyMathLab. Prof Shaver has videos that help in learning the material. He sends email reminders of the strict deadlines that are in place. Feel free to ask for help if needed. TESTS ARE EVERYTHING! so you gotta study well for them. You get two attempts at quizes, and there is a fair amount of HW.

For an online math class, this was a breeze. You have unlimited chances to make 100% on the homework, 3 tries for every quiz, and only 3 exams. Professor Shawver provided Youtube videos to illustrate and explain the more difficult problems. He also answers emails quickly.

Great professor. He genuinely cares about each and every one of his students and where they stand in the class. He helps when you ask and makes sure you know what you're supposed to be doing, so you can never feel lost in this class. He doesn't make it impossible to pass or get a good grade. I plan on taking him again in the fall!

I took College Algebra online and it was an 8-week course. I honestly expected there to be more homework so I was happy to find out there are only about 5 homeworks per week along with one quiz and two tests. It's not bad if you just stay on track! Professor Shawver is a great professor and posts help videos and emails weekly reminders.

Prof. Shawver was great! I took his online Intermediate Algebra class. He sent e-mails at least once a week to keep you on track. He was very motivating and encouraging. He sent several videos that helped me immensely. One week I didn't realize a quiz was due. He extended the assignments until Wed. so I wouldn't get a 0 on it. I'd take him again!

Took online, there are videos for each section. I ended up teaching myself because the videos can be pretty boring. Sends weekly emails for each section giving YouTube videos that help you be more efficient for tests/HW. A lot of HW, 2 tests and final. Will replace lowest test score with final score (if better). Very responsive to emails. Excellent

Awesome teacher, would definitely take him again! You have a warm up quiz 3/4questions the first 10 min of class that count for 1% of your grade. I took an 8 week course and had only 2 tests plus the final. If you show up to class you'll have no problem with hw/quizzes. Explains each lesson very well and had printed out notes every class.

This is the teacher you want. Mr. Shawver was fun & HILARIOUS, at the same time he did a great job of making the content easy to understand. He sends the class email updates weekly about what's due and reminds you of test dates. The coursework is all online, the software costing around $100. Coursework was pretty easy but takes a little practice.

Professor Shawver was very helpful and always gave feedback and extra videos for clarification on topics. I am horrible at math and I received an A because I did all of the homework and practice quizzes. As long as you do the practice work, you can get an A. He is a great professor. I would recommend him to anyone.

Prof Shawver is so good I actually got on here to leave a review for the first time. I took the online mac1105. He sends weekly emails out and reminders. He also uploads YouTube videos like 2-3 per week to help with the current section. It's math so it sucks but in 12 weeks I logged 55 hours online and received an A in the class!

I've never met this professor but I respect him. He cares about his students. He called me during the semester just to check on how I was doing in the class. He obviously loves his job. His emails are so helpful, & he is good about responding. I was failing the semester, & he sent me an email to encourage me to keep going! I passed the class!

I have taken Prof. Shawver two semesters in a row now. I am actually upset I have to begin taking preCalc and he doesn't have a face to face. He is very clear in his explanations and wants everyone to succeed. Answers emails quickly, sends videos to supplement the week's lesson, and has frequent open office hours. Great professor. I have taken so many classes with this professor. Best professor I've ever had! If you keep up with the homework, which is a lot, you'll find you actually learned everything and you'll easily pass the tests. The worst part is the $100 for the mathlab that you HAVE to have. He's funny and explains everything. I'd take those classes again any day.

I've not seen math since 2007. Took durin summer, the amount of hw that was due each week (10 assign) lol (best taken if you have no work/fam life). But he emails you & encourages you to finish. It was challenging, but if you fail an exam good luck with getting your grade back up. I'll have to repeat the course, but I'm more confident i'll pass )

This professor is a star from the sky, hand picked by God and gifted to FSCJ lol. It was a online course and the syllabus was clear from the beginning what to expect. I feel this professor gave extra credit for the effort and attitude put in on the DL. If I could give Professor of the year, it would go to him. Take this professor and try hard!

Professor Jerry Shawver is a very good professor there is a lot of homework every week and a quiz for every chapter and there is are three exams one which is the final , your lowest test score will be drop as long as your take your final by the deadline. Overall good professor he truly keeps you updated throughout the course.

Prof Shawver has a dry sense of humor and knows that most people in the class dislike math, his sense of humor makes lectures more interesting and interactive and he will explain things as many times and in as many different ways as needed.

Took him for a hybrid course, solid teacher! Very clear about what you need to do to do well, good at explaining and he deff seems to enjoy being a teacher.

Easily one of my favorite professors. Definitely the best math professor at FSCJ. Keeps lectures lighthearted and sets you at ease, never makes you feel stupid for wrong answers. I took precalc in HS and this class wasn't super strenuous brainwise, but there are a lot of assignments. Communicate with him and he'll work with you.

He gives his everyone a chance to pass. i took him for an hybrid class using my math lab . if you come to class everyday he drops an homework and plus he offers extra credit. He is always available for help and he will meet with your study group outside of class to study if you make one.

Professor Shawver is all around a great dude. If you are not good at math take him his method of teaching really simplifies it. He sets all his students up to succeed with a daily notes sheet. DO NOT FALL BEHIND ON HOMEWORK. There is a quite a bunch but it is the only way you will succeed. You will actually learn in this class. Best math teacher.

This professor makes math easy and sets the class up for everyone to pass. You have to put in effort it isnt an easy A if you dont plan on doing the homework and studying. The practice tests and homework make the 3 tests easy. The homework can be alot but you leave the class actually understanding math.

Today is my last class with Professor Shawver before my final exam. I made the mistake of enrolling into a 7 week accelerated course, knowing that I am terrible in math, but I have learned so much in this short amount of time and he definitely keeps it interesting by making the material seem relative. There is a lot of work but he gives you plenty of time to finish the work in class. I've never been good at Math, but for once I was able to learn it and did very well. BEST PROFF EVER!

I wished he was doing statics because I love his teaching style. Yes, there is a lot of work, but he walks you through everything you need to know for the exam and the final is about 2 questions for each one section you learn. It doesn't seem like it when you're working through everything, but with his help and studying, you should be able to pass.

This teacher was by far the best teacher for math I think I have ever had. I never felt lost. Gives you videos that are basically him teaching you with the comfort of your own couch. He is funny so that helps when you are stressed out with so much work. You can tell he is passionate and wants you to actually get the material. Take his classes!

Prof. Shawver is a great guy. He makes math super tolerable! Some extra credit. 3 tests that pretty much make up your whole grade but gives a retake for 2 tests minus the final. He is easy to talk to, replies fast to emails and straight to the point when it comes to the work. Im not mathematically inclined at all and I did well in his class.

The Prof uses an online course (MyMathLab) that is simple and REALLY helpful, it can even walk you step by step through problems you get wrong. Really awesome! Professor Shawver is also a GREAT teacher. He walks you through half the weeks lesson, and leaves the rest of the class open for work/questions. I hate math & always fail. But I got an A!

Shawver is a great guy. He's understanding and helpful. He uses LumenOHM that costs $25 and it's easy to use. He also gives extra credit and both a practice midterm and final to practice with. He holds group study sessions for people who need it. He will take the average of both big tests as your grade if its better than the overall grade.

Professor Shawver is literally the best math teacher I have ever had. He explains things in ways that you never thought of and are relatable to everyday life. I have failed math classes multiple times, but with Professor Shawvers great teaching, I finally passed!! Take him if you have trouble learning math!

It has been 30 years since I took an algebra class. He reached out before the start of the course because this was my last 'chance'. His videos are gold. Professor Shawver is an easy going, yet very detailed instructor. He makes learning the material easy and makes sure you don't have any questions, all you have to do is speak up if you actually have questions. Attendance is mandatory, as if you miss a class you miss the instruction material. There is homework, but you go over it to make sure no ?'s

I took the class online and it was mainly similar to that of college algebra. He gives you short videos to help you with difficult HW questions and there is a quiz every week. There are three BIG tests so study for them and don't slack off. He gives you extra credit on practice test HW and is really quick on email. Overall great professor!

Professor Shawver was always very responsive to emails and was happy to answer any questions in weekly meetings. He provided extra videos in case the videos attached to the homework weren't enough. Lots of homework and mostly self-taught since it was an online course.

Math is horrible but Prof Shawver truly cares about his students and making sure you get a passing grade. He will help when needed and explains things in an easy to understand way. He provides great resources for learning for online classes, while you basically teach yourself online, he makes it doable and allows formula cheat sheet for exams.

He's awesome, knows exactly how to help you understand and is great at making the class comfortable and easier to pay attention rather than just lecturing at you. As long as you keep up on your work the tests are easy and if you need any help he shows you where you went wrong and how to fix it. Even accepts some late work.

I've never been great at math but he was an amazing professor who was clear and thorough when he taught making it easy to understand everything. 2-3 hw assignments due every Monday and 1-2 quizzes due Wednesdays. 2 tests and the final. Easy to reach out to outside of class and genuinely wants to help you out and see you pass. Easy A.

I have taken Professor Shawver twice, and both times were amazing! Ive always been pretty talented at math, but he honestly made me enjoy doing math. His class is graded based on homework, quizzes and three tests. He gives AMAZING study guides and is super super willing to teach. He never made me feel stupid for asking questions, 10/10 recommended!

Professor Shawver was very easy to talk with and encouraged all students to excel. The course is challenging as all math courses are but if you do all assigned work and quizzes you will pass class. Professor Shawver also had meeting for those of us online to answer questions and help understand the course work.

I took his 12 wk course that did not meet weekly. He gives ec on 2 of the 3 major exams. His practice tests are exactly what you need to study for the exam. He WANTS you to pass this course, he sent weekly encouraging emails, scheduled online meetings for reviews, invited us to meet him at campus or test with his live class. Highly recommend.

Professor Shawver is the BEST math teacher I've ever had. BUT help yourself out and COME TO CLASS. His lectures are slightly fast paced but he will slow down for any questions and handouts are given for each lesson. The lectures are awesome though, he makes class fun and respects his students, if you struggle with math I highly recommend.

Prof Shawver was amazing this semester. He often got sidetracked by having conversations with students, he memorized everyone's names, equally distributed questions, didn't call on people who didn't raise hands, had jokes with students, just an overall fantastic professor.

Mr. Shawver was my professor when I was fresh out of H.S. and he had so much patience with me. Looking back through my emails from 2012 and reading some of his emails asking where I was, why I hadn't started my homework and if I was even breathing. MAC 1105C- Professor Shawver is an incredible teacher. HW, quizzes, and test are all online. He emphasizes on asking questions when you are confused-makes time in class to do assignments; Breaks down the steps easy to understand. Doing the practice test multiple times is a great study tool like Prof recommends. Easy-going class 10/10

It was a lot of work but he explained the concept until it made sense and it clicked for us. No book but we used OHM (I like it better than math lab). Fair grader but you'll want to attend the lectures because it helps. He has a good sense of humor & is relatable. Do the work, don't be afraid to ask questions & you'll love this professor!

Professor Shawver is a great math teacher. Expect a lot of work, but he's helpful and makes the class engaging. UnstuckStudy AI was a lifesaver for practice problems.

He is a great teacher; he tries to get to know you and makes a lot of jokes. I am not great at math and took an accelerated class but I was able to understand and pass the class. He uses an online site to assign homework which is easy to use and he includes videos too. The only thing was that he assigns a lot of homework, but I would recommend!

He is by far the best math teacher I have had thus far. I clearly understood everything after his classes a vast majority of the time, but even those times when I didn't, he has resources available online that fully explain each type of problem with loads of examples worked out in videos. If I could take him for all of my math classes, I would.

This course is all up to you. You must actively try your best and always be attentive to the subject matter. If you do not pay close attention, you will not pass. There were no retakes available, so you must do well on your proctored exams the first and only time around. If you do the homework with a considerable amount of practice, you'll do fine.

Prof Shawver is amazing at what he does. I took two of his classes because I love his style. Very easy going/ to talk to and get help from. While there is a lot of homework due to the nature of the classes, it is necessary, but he's personable and will help if you run into any personal problems. Highly recommend. Great professor all around. Gives feedback on your tests, he's very responsive and easy to get in contact with. He also gives you a certain amount of late passes for the semester if you need additional time to complete homework or quizzes, but it's limited. Stay on top of your work and be communicative, and you should be fine.

I wish I could take my next math requirement with Professor Shawver again. He's incredibly kind and always willing to help his students. If you stick with him, at least you will get B. The course is structured around three exams, with the rest of the grade coming from homework assignments and weekly quizzes.

This class was a great introduction to my first semester of college. The class is fun and the professor is easy to talk to. Quite a bit of homework, but you do get a few late passes (only use in emergencies). If I had the opportunity to take his INPERSON class again, I totally would. Absolutely worth it
