An amazing teacher. Likes to challenge students to think and gobeyond the norms. Just keep up with the reading and you'll do fine. One of the smartest teachers that I've ever had.
he's the best teacher ever. He knows every thing and every detail about historical events. You learn so much in his class, and he teaches you to think outside of the norm. incourages independance

If you want to learn, take him, if you are looking to glide through a class, don't. Papers and tests are fairly graded, just make sure you read!

Everything everybody else said is true... this guy knows everything. From what I've heard my class had it easy. Also, professor who doesn't give tests is an A in my book. I'll write papers any day.

Makes history come alive with INCREDIBLE detail. Easy 2 pg paper's. anyone who says he's hard didnt get the point -- he wants your opinion. Great personality, unique sense of humor. Take this class.
He may be a great history teacher. But when it comes to this course he was off the mark. All he did was make us read a horrible book and talk about it. He did'nt follow the course description or syllabus. I would avoid him in this class at all costs.

Most revered professor on campus..I swear to God this man knows everything. Absolutely brilliant. Teaches the class solely on lecture but loves class participation. But he may know too much...class often gets confusing
Best class in the world. if you're a freshman and don't have him for origins SWITCH!!! he's the smartest man on this campus. the only thing you have to do is pay attention, read, and write some 2 page papers. i wish all history prof's taught like he did
A main reason why I've gone on to study history in grad school.Get to know as both a person and a teacher.His knowledge is immense;his greatest goal is for us to better understand history's sweeping epic.He pushes each student according to his/her ability
He really doenst know how to deal with people although he is extrmely smart he makes you feel like you are a half an inch tall. Especially if you are a hsitory major because he expetcs more out of you and will grade you harsher.
i took him twice. interesting classes. a lot of papers, had to read a 1000 page book called "pillars opf the earth"(which i only got half through). has some weird mood swings, if he get pissed at you he will chew you out for 10 minutes.
DAMN, Very smart guy. Knows his stuff. Don't challenge him, you'll loose. He is a fair grader but not hard at all.
Prof. White is with out a doubt a genius. The class covers so much, and he jumps around so much that it is hard to know what's going on, but if u read and listen in class u should get an A or a B.

Entire class is based on lecture/class discussion. This guy is so damn smart it's not funny. A couple papers, a couple critiques on videos we watched. No tests, a take-home final. Pretty interesting class. Not bad for a 101 class. Final was 3 3-page essay
Very smart guy, you will learn alot about history, very very light workload. A couple of papers and some reading. Final was heavy but managable. good class.

Very very knowledgable. Doesn't let you leave class even to go to the bathroom. Only assigns papers. Need to say exactly what he wants to hear. Interesting lectures though.

Very easy class as it was just lecture w/ no tests, quizzes, VERY few papers. But he's smart and knows it. He'll embarass anyone who's even slightly wrong. Picks on you if he feels you don't know. Take it for an easy class but know what's going on.

Took history elective in senior yr just for interest. Great storyteller, made great connections btwn world events and patterns. Made you THINK. Slightly demanding.

Fantastic professor! There is no other like him at marist, simply the best. An easy grader, but what you learn from him you can't be measured with a grade. Marist should colon him. You'll have to endure several 1970's flims but its well worth it. Hint:learn latin, and he speaks in riddles sometimes.
One of the the worst teachers I have ever had. Gives boring lectures the entire class and writes incoherent notes on the board. Never gives A's and makes fun of student's essays. Arrogant, embarrasses people in class who don't know the answer, and if the answer isn't his opionion its 'wrong'

Worst teacher ever! he rants and raves about one topic for the whole section and then he won't even test you on it. his essays have nothing to do with the class. he never gives A's and hes so annoying. he belittles kids in class and makes you feel dumb

Very intense, and more importantly, knowledgable. Gives insight into the past beyond the apperance of things. I imagine he might be too intimidating for some students, but if you're prepared and ok with making mistakes you can get a lot out of class. Awesome teacher.
Very boring, yet very easy class. Just lectures all class, no tests, few essays...not hard. He's smart and he knows it, and he'll try to prove it at your expense. Oh yeah, and he thinks he's British, too.
No Tests, and he just lectures all class. You have about 6 papers all semester and if you go to his office for help he will basically tell you what to write. He knows the most random facts about history as well.
Interesting guy, never needs any notes. Takes a little time to get used to his class as it is never structured. If someone asks a question he goes off on a tangent and doesn't really answer the question. I would probably not take him again for a class, but a good guy to have a discussion with.
Jerry White is not as brilliant as everyone says he is. Yeah, he knows a lot about history--well he should, he is a history professor. That doesn't make him a genius, it makes him knowledgaeble in his chosen area. He's an ass****, don't take him.
IF your a history person he is great. The man has forgotten more about history then most profesors of histrory could ever learn. He is difficult in class due to his tendancy to wander in and out of subject but you will learn a great deal and have a new understanding of history at the end. Great for history kids.

If he seems mean, it's because he's trying to get people to realize how much there is about history which we take for granted. If interested in history, you'll find his class fascinating. Probably not for everyone though. Really knows his stuff, and is more willing to help than it might seem. He really connects the material to how they shape 2day.
Great teacher. Kind of intimidating at first and doesnt teach like other teachers Ive had. He really does know everything... he is a tough grader and looks for substance in the papers written for class. there are no tests. all grades are take home essays....
Very Tough grader and likes to talk. Basically all you do in class is listen to him and take notes and sometimes he asks questions. No tests or quizzes, just papers. Looks for how you make a connection to history rather than you knowing the facts.

Definitely take this class! Took it as an honors course, and it is a really interesting class. He has such an extreme passion for the opera, and all he wants is to share his interest and knowledge of it. He just wants to hear your opinion on things, so you can easily get an A. a reaction paper to every opera you see and a final 10 pg paper- easy!
He's a horrible teacher. Don't get me wrong he's really smart, but he cannot teach to save his life. You have to work extremely hard for a B...so not worth it.
Professor White is a extremely bright individual who surrounds himself around knowledge. If you want to know the modern history of any region of the world, Mr. White is your man. Super supportive of students finding their direction in life, and using his class as a gate way towards doing so. His office hours are great, and he loves to be visited.
At first I though he was one of those professors who talked down to you like they know everything, but then I realized he does know everything and has even been known to predict the future. He has a passion for flashin... oh yea and history. Great class I highly recommend Jerry God White.

He knows a lot about history. But, he's a professor who's been teaching for over 40 years. He SHOULD know a lot. It's his JOB. He was an insulting man who put you on the spot to answer questions. Even if your answer was right, it wasn't RIGHT. Get it? i.e. For our 1st paper he asked us: "What is history?" I got a "B" on my paper. Enough said.
Had him for themes in Mod. history. He was awful! I didn't learn a thing and he doesn't give A's. Don't take unless you love history and don't mind long boring lectures.
horrible horrible teacher. do NOT take this class. had him for themes this semester, worst class in my schedule. he is degrading and biased. he thinks we actually care about history as much as he does. makes you write an essay once a week. he puts you on the spot and expects you to know the answer. i hated this class. dreaded going to it.
He knows pretty much everything there is to know. But can put you on the spot and shames you if you don't know the answer. But it doesn't really matter. No tests, and weekly 2-page essays. Average grader, won't give you an A, though, because he doesn't consider anything perfection. Boring lectures in class. But it's an easy class to get through.
alright so this guy really isnt that bad...no tests, 2 page papers due once a week and he will basically write it for you if you are willing to meet with him. he knows his stuff and i learned a lot. yeah he puts you on the spot but if you skim the reading before the class and follow him youll be fine...nice guy if you are willing to talk too
he knows everything relating to history, the arts, and language. by everything i mean everything. he does put you on the spot quite often. if u dont know the answer he will just watch you squirm for a while.despite the reports i got from his history students he was always easy going with his latin class. if you take him u better know ur material
Terrible teacher! He is very intelligent but boring to listen to. He does not try to help you at all. Will not give an A on a paper. All essay based. His lectures will put you to sleep. Hated the class he ruined history for me.
Jerry White is very intelligent in his own right, but he should honestly retire. He still cannot compare to the brilliance of Roscoe Balch, a retired history professor of 30 years who subscribed to the objectivist method of teaching.
One of the worst teacher's I've ever had. He threw my entire class because one kid in my class was texting and he marked us all absent. He's a horrible grader and his class is incredibly boring
Honestly, I've never hated history as much as I hated this class. No tests or quizzes but all he does is lecture the entire class. He goes up to you and asks you a question and makes you feel like an idiot if you don't know the answers (which hardly anyone would ever get right). Occasional papers but he will never give an A.
Took his class 20 years ago looked him up just to see if he was still around. He was extremely smart and knows everything. Very hard to get an A, but if you show up and do you work you won't fail. Was one of the few prof's I remember. If you like history he can be very interesting to listen to. Is friendly if you try to get to know him.
I was very intimidated at first and slightly bored but it gets very interesting. He is a genius, knows everything about everything in history, but he can be a bit polarizing if you don't know as much as he does (which is impossible). Overall though he is a great professor and this is a great class to take to fulfill the requirement.
Do not take this class if you like your GPA... He is one of the smartest people I have ever met, but he is an awful teacher. The classes are long and boring. There are no tests quizzes, only papers which he grades very harsh. I went to his office hours many times and he did not help me in the slightest.
