Takes a hard and intimidating subject for some and turns it into something not so horrific. A smart and kind teacher who will try his hardest to see that you understand.
Thanks Jerry it was awesome
his class is not easy, but so rewarding!
Jerry always takes time to make things crystal clear.
Textbook is actually a bound packet for this class so only costs about $20. He is a good teacher, helps you suceed, and lectures are well prepared. There's a lot of group work in this class, which I found frustrating because of limited outside class time due to work, plus some people were lazy. If you attend lectures and study, you'll do well.
Easy, just do all the homework and listen to his instructions about the exams.
Great teacher, class lectures are precise and always have time to help if you need it.
Great Teacher. He's straight forward and very helpful. He explaines things clearly and simply and his proofs are simple and elegant. He uses technology well and gives excellent demonstrations. He really breaks it down.
Also took 117. Jerry is very good at explaining everything. He has great office hours so you can always go in for extra help. SUPER nice and caring.
Teacher was always careful to fully explain concepts if students were confused. He seemed to make a lot of little mistakes while writing notes on the board, which could get confusing -- students usually had to correct him. He tested/graded more on conceptual understanding than on having the one right answer.
i took 148 also,,love him a lot. he is very helpful and easy grade.
Wright is without a doubt the most clear and helpful math instructor at SCCC. So far I've had four, and each time I wish it had been him. If you have any math anxiety at all, this is the man you want teaching you. While it's neither easy nor hard, he makes it completely understandable. He will methodically take you step by step. Great!
He's merticulous and show affection to his teaching.
Jerry is the best math instructor I have ever had in my life. His lectures/lessons are helpful and he gives great real-life examples to make things more clear. He takes time each class to go over any questions students have on the homework, and answers them. Grading is based on your understanding rather than correct answers. Really great teacher!
His tests/exams are very straight forward questions. If you keep up and do all the homework, you'll pass this class with a good grade.
He gives a weeks worth of homework and is due on Tuesday. Monday is a day to go over problems that were difficult for most students so I thought that was really helpful. Overall great teacher and is recommended.
Jerry is the best math teacher I ever had! I took way easier math classes, and nearly failed, while in his class (which is the most difficult to learn),I'm almost an A. Great teacher!
I took his classes: MATH116 &MATH 148 two years ago. He's a great teacher. Just do homework on time and read material before coming to class, we can get higher score. He's very friendly, he explains very detail any questions student have. Great math teacher at SCCC!
I have to say that prior to this class, I hated math and thought that it was the most difficult class. Jerry Wright was able to make math understandable. I actually looked forward to attending class. His crystal clear explanations and willingness to help was wonderful. Overall, BEST math teacher ever! =]
Good guy, really helpful...gives a lot of information that will help you with exams. Is very detailed and helps you understand your formulas and emphasizes what you need to know to do well.
I took 116 and 148 with Jerry. He was the best and most helpful teacher I could ask for. He has a way of explaining things that actually make the class easy. I've taken many other math classes with teachers that can't convey the subject. With Jerry, if you attend class you will learn more than you need to get a good grade. Good sense of humor
He is a very nice guy but not a good teacher as he has lots mistake during the class. It's not a good teacher for who are not good in maths.
I am taking Math 151 and Math 109 with him this Spring and he is a wonderful teacher. he explains everything very well, is happy to help you if you have a question. Prepare to spend good time doing homework, but it's worth it. I was afraid of Math 151 but he made me enjoy it a lot, I am looking for Math 152 and 153 and I am feeling prepared for it
I took math 116 and 148 with him. He made math soo easy. Best math teacher I've ever had!
Jerry is an amazing teacher. Before this class I aways did very poor in math. He explains things extremely well and always answered questions thourghly. I am taking the 3 quarter my statway classes and I can't wait for next quarter to start!
Best math professor @ SCCC. If you're required to take a math course -- take it with this professor. Although this course may seem challenging, Professor Wright makes everything clear and concise. Just be dedicated to devoting time into doing all the homework :) Pay attention in class and actually study for the quizzes/tests & you'll be set!
Excellent math teacher. Very clear. He explained everything well and was always on time. I would take a math class with him any day!
Mr. Wright is the bet math teacher I've ever had. He is super nice and really clear. He makes sure you. Get it. Really funny and I'm so happy I took his class. And he makes sure to. Work with you
Excellent statistics class. Mr. Wright is helpful, timely and very reasonable grader. He lets you know exactly what you'll be tested over. Do all the homework and look over the study guides (that he provides) and the A grade is yours! I would love to have him as an instructor again--math isn't my fav but the class was great.
Jerry is by far the best math teacher I've ever had in my life! He was very helpful and very nice! I wish more teachers could be like him. I didn't understand Math until I got into his class. Take this professor and you will not regret it.
Best instructor ever! He is really nice and helpful. If you do your best, it is not difficult to get a good grade. One thing you must not is that copying the answer of the question from the book when you do your homework. If you do your homework hard and attend every class, the test is very easy.
Exceptional math teacher. I would take him for every math class if I could.
My most favorite prof at SCCC. Do all the homework and you can easily get a 4.0 Wish i could take him for every class.
Best professor ever! I learn a lot from him.
Jerry is an amazing teacher who changed how I feel about math. He is great at providing step by step examples and bends over backwards to help you out. Go to class and do the work= good grade.
Great classes. Highly recommanded
Great classes. Highly recommended!
He is a great professor!
He is great teacher. You will get good grade. He give a little too much HW. this class only had one quiz, one exam and final. He will review hw, quiz, test, final for you. Ask question if you don't understand. He will expain for you. high recommendation.
Very nice teacher. Do all the homework to support your grades (just in case you did bad in quiz/test) My favorite math teacher so far. Master the basics and you'll be good to go
Do homework, do review for quizzes, exam, and you're good to go. I got 3.8 from him. Very nice personality, teach with passion, and he does make mistakes during lecture, but it's not a big deal. Take him if you can, you'll love him. I wish he would teach math 152 and 153.
The problem with Jerry is that he assigns too much homework, places to high a value on it as far as your grade goes, and then grades it very very harshly. To top it off his tests are quite a bit harder than the stuff in most of the homework. While he is clear in instruction he needs to review his grading system desperately.
Although I've heard that he doesn't always teach this way, my class with him was very quiz and exam heavy. If you prepare before hand you can easily get a good grade, but don't assume that you'll have a cushion of HW points to makeup for any bad test scores. So long as you don't fall behind you'll probably do fine.
Jerry is an amazing teacher. I do like his way how to teach math. You will have every week a quiz the "lowest score will be dropped" but honestly these quizzes prepare you very well and they're very helpful to understand the material. These quizzes weren't difficult but you have to study for it. I recommend him and best teacher I had so far.
Jerry Wright is the best math teacher I have ever had in 16 years of education. He is unapologetically nerdy and loves math to his core. His knowledge of the intricacies and innerworkings of arithmetic is undeniable and yet he always finds a way to translate his understanding into yours. If you get the chance, FIGHT FOR THIS MAN'S COURSE.
Jerry Wright is one of the best Math professor I ever had. He assigns a lot of written homework but it really helps to understand the subject more.
great instructor
If you have trouble learning math and it does not come easy to you, TAKE THIS TEACHER. He has a special skill of making understanding math easy for you. He is also a very easy grader, easy 4.0 if you show up. Homework is free points if you do it. Always their for you and really cares about teaching, its obvious he wants to be a better teacher.
Honestly this is the worst Math class I've ever taken. The professor isn't very helpful. His attitude is 'figure it out' or 'look at the book'. He always goes back on his word a lot. Unsure if that's intentional or not. He often spreads lectures over two days, leaving the last 10 minutes of a lecture for the day af I wouldn't take his class again.
Holy this guy. Started at the beginning of the textbook, even though the first FIVE chapters are review from the previous course. Expects you to spend 12+ hours a week on homework alone(explicitly stated in the syllabus) and will give absurd quantities of busywork to meet that demand. If you suck at math, MAYBE. Else, avoid for your sanity's sake!
Jerry Wright is a great professor. He explains everything in detail and voluntarily helps you understand lessons and answers your questions clearly. His quizzes totally are based on all knowledge in class, so it is easy to study. He also has practice exams to take before official exams, so you can know what things to study and prepare for exams
His class was really straight forward and pretty easy if you pay attention and study. He clearly loves math and that makes students love math too. He cares a lot about his students and he's not a tough grader on tests. I wish I could take all my math classes with him. He is truly the best teacher I've ever had.
For me personally math is a challenging subject and Mr. Wright does a very good job at explaining things. He is good at making sure peoples questions are answered and the way he presents things on the board makes sense.
Prof. Wright is awesome. You can tell taking his class he really enjoys teaching and really loves Math. He teaches it in ways that apply to real life and help you understand. He is definitely there for you after class to try and help. Only downside is he sets a lot of homework and its due weekly which means you can forget to do it if not careful...
He is a great teacher for any student that never understood math or is returning to college after taking a few years off. The coursework is basic Algebra and although I did not like the textbook (riddled with errors, and the writer assumed a lot about students knowledge) he did a great job at teaching the content and stressed the use of free tutors
Amazing teacher! I learned a lot. He's really nice, too, was always happy to explain stuff to me or work with me when stuff came up. Cannot recommend him enough. There is a lot of homework but it's necessary to learn math.
If you're bad at math, take this class. He goes into detail, and is willing to spend lots of time with struggling students. If you're trying to get a refresher, take a different teacher. Jerry drags on forever, and can get frustrating to listen to.
Jerry's great! Took him from Trig to DiffEq. About 25 hw probs /wk, but counts a lot towards final grade & helps you learn. Lectures can move kind of fast b/c he has every minute planned, but is available & patient during office hours. Gives detailed exam prep & often lets your final exam grade replace your lowest test. Wants you to succeed!
If you're looking for an easy A and 4.0 don' take this class for u. Took his hybrid class I was lazy to read the textbook. But in class, he goes over the textbook and tells us types of question to expect on the quiz. Skip the days of his hybrid class don't except your grade to stay the same. Skipping 1 day feels as if you skipped a whole month.
If you want an easy A then boi this class aint for you. But if you tryan start a strong career in college and need a math class takes stats. If your willing to have at least 3 hours to read and study. you're fine. The midterm and finals are open notes so you could use them and also the math ain't easy lots of equations to use to solve 1 problem.
come to class prepared no easy a granted you have to work for it. skip class you won't pass he wants students to succeed
A cool dude. You absolutely need to attend class or else be prepared to fail. The workload is CRAZY but rewarding if you manage to keep up with everything. You will need to dedicate a LOT of time outside of class to homework, studying, and review. I gave 110% for this class and still barely passed (with a 2.2, 2.0 or lower being a failing grade).
honestly, i just hated this class because the online textbook was such trash and was the only source of our learning and practicing new ideas. where as the in class sessions taught me nothing and i saw them as nothing more than a waste of time. also i hate this mans voice! he talks so loud and stammers, its so stressful to listen to this guy talk
wright is a good math teacher. He always helps you to solve the question that you don't understand. Even though there was lots of hw in math 151, it is helpful for your test and quiz. And his class is easy to get good scores once you know how to do your homework questions.
he is a great teacher. really cares about his students, and explains things really clearly. Before his class, I was really nervous, but he put my mind at ease.
We had daily lectures, weekly written homework (he goes over homework questions), and 3 exams/chapter, plus a final exam. The homework was a lot, but doable. He explained everything very clearly and was very caring. It's easy to ask him questions. He was also hilarious and found many ways to relate the content with outside examples. Take his class!
Wright did a good job teaching us the basics of differential equations. Lectures were clear and showed us exactly how to solve the homework problems. That said, his course was a little too easy. He posts old tests which are almost identical to the current ones. HW/test qs are straightforward. Not on-par with UW 308 in terms of rigor. Great guy, tho
Professor Wright is great. He is caring and extremely accessible outside of class but this doesn't mean his class is not challenging. He gives a lot of homework but they are very helpful when it comes to quizzes and tests. He also gives extra credit opportunities. I would definitely utilize office hours if you're aiming for a good grade.
Taking his class was a mistake. His teaching is a joke. No lesson plans, notes are messy, and does a horrible job of explaining things. Walks you through things that are a given but leaves you to figure out the actual content on your own. He gets confused on stuff during class and leaves you hanging on how to do it. You end up teaching yourself.
If you want to end up watching tons of YouTube videos (some recommended by him) to cover the 80% of each concept that Wright did not go over, then choose his class! Horrible at explaining new things, often ends up confusing himself through trying. Quote to describe him: "I'm not going to explain it because they say it in the video!"
Professor: Great understanding of the material. Class lectures: explanation of the basics of the concept + many worked out examples. There are complaints about the professor not elaborating well but there are frequent pauses for questions. Notes are not meant to be copied here. Videos often used to conserve time. Success won't fall into your lap.
Jerry is a pretty good professor, his lectures are informative and somewhat upbeat even tho it's in the morning and everyone is mute so I appreciate his energy and effort. He also gives a lot of extra options for students that needs it to pass, from extra credit to redo of quizzes. Only issue is the amount of hw but overall would still recommend
Professor Wright is a nice guy and he's not necessarily bad at teaching, but he grades homework-hand written and quizzes too harshly and does not give enough time during his exams. He gives a lot of work as well some you can get by quickly others take forever. his lectures are not the best and he's messy when explaining.
Good teacher. I learned a lot. I never really understood trigonometry until I took his class, but he has a good way of explaining the concepts.
God, I hated this class. Prof Wright is a caring person but he's just a terrible teacher. Gets confused by his own lectures and often needs help from students. You'll spend hours watching videos on youtube to figure out work. If you're a running start student, just take AP calc.
TEST HEAVY!!!!!! 50% of your grade is exams and homework/practices are like 10-20%. I got an A in my homework grade, but only got like a 68 average on the exams (didn't feel prepared on any) so I finished with a B aka the lowest grade I've ever gotten in college. Don't get me wrong, he is so nice+ u get lots of latepasses but don't take his class
A caring and understanding professor, he is flexible and will work with you one on one until you understand the subject. So much online homework assignments and tests are heavily weighted. He is an incredible professor and so kind, one of the better central math professors!
I respect Professor. Wright, he's funny and caring, but trust me if you want his class be aware of a lot of homework and extremely heavy midterm and final, I like statistics but he made me hate it so bad. Simply you can't get an easy A you have to work harder than you think. -_-
His way of teaching is understandable but the homework is too much, the midterms and finals are mostly focused from quizzes. He gives you a chance to write your notes on one sheet for the midterm and two sheets for the final in front and back. you should focus a lot and use the resources in WAMAP for better performance
It was unwise to enroll in his class. His lectures are absurd. No lesson preparations, disorganized notes, and poor explanations are all present. explains things that are obvious to you but leaves you to determine the true content on your own. If you want to pass please DON'T TAKE HE'S CLASS.
I took his class last quarter. We had to do a lot online but came to class twice per week. It really helped when he explained things. Do your homework and you'll do fine on his tests
The course I took was MATH 220-Linear Algebra ( I couldn't find this option in dropdown). Prof Wright is a kind and excellent teacher. I always benefitted from attending lectures and regretted the few times I had to miss class. For someone who sometimes struggles with math and had been away from school for years, I really enjoyed taking this class!
Wright would teach you the most basic math in class and expect you to understand complex problems on the exam. Not only that, it took me around 8 hours to complete his homework, but that didn't assist me on the exams at all. His lectures are also all over the place and are hard to engage with.
hes extremely nice but pretty unorganized. his lectures r hard to follow n theres nothing to prepare you for what each lecture is going to be about before class. sometimes lectures dont align w/ the hw. LOTS OF HW 10-20 written questions per week along with 2-3 wamap assignments w/ 10-20 questions each. GO TO OFFICE HOURS TO SUCCEED u will need it
Pre calc 2 was all about consistency for me. If you show up every day and put the time in on the homework then you will be in good shape for the tests and quizzes. Jerry knows his stuff and he is very good at explaining concepts. The quizzes are at the beginning of class almost every day so show up on time.
I took the class online so I am not sure about the professor. The materials are a lot to read and hard practice homework and readings, but quizzes and exams are easy materials and really straightforward. Keep reading, take notes, and understand your materials, then you will get good grades.
Jerry was SUPER accommodating!4 LatePasses&each worth 3days for each HW.Bc I'm disabled he gave extra late passes & made due dates exceptions beyond 4day late passes bc WAMAP had a bad layout so I couldn't tell if it an assignment was late or not.He wants everything turned in at the end of the quarter.omitted topics to be easier than typical class.
