a lot of reading, quizes every week, gives you the essay questions to study from, not a hard grader, funny, exciting, take him!
VERY VERY nice guy! I normally hte history, however he made the material a lot of fun and easy to learn. He's witty and extremely down to earth. I took a second history class with him the following year, and it was equally as enjoyable. great teacher!
I love Jess Levine. I think he is one of the best professors I have ever had. He loves history so much, it's really funny, but its nice to see a teacher so excited about what they are teaching, plus he is not bad to look at!!! :o)
Very nice, down to earth man. Loves what he does and is very enthiastic. Only flaw, though is sometimes he can drag the class on too much and it can become boring. His thoughts are great but a bit scattered when speaking, unfortunately. Great guy though!
HELPFUL. EASY GRADER.
Very good teacher, fair and unbiased. It was a blast taking his class.
greatest teacher ever would recomend him to anyone teaches real good cool guy
take great notges and you will get an A...awesome lecturer...def take him
One of the greatest teachers out there. Just follow along take notes and read the handouts. Very easy grader, not hard to get an A if you do your work.
Best teacher ever. If you don't pass his class you must be the dumbest person ever to live.
Very, very nice guy. Really into what he does. Do what he tells you, and you'll easily get an A. Overall, great professor!!!
what a cool guy.Read what you are supposed to and put history in your on words and he will love you.strongly suggested
he was a really good teacher. he's always willing to help and is very caring. My first day of class he was actually 15 minutes late because he was helping a former student find his class. He is an easy grader and he is a hottie haha
great professor, makes history interesting. Also a hottie to boot.
Great teacher! He makes you "THINK" and form your own opinions! Lots of Essays, but all are simple if you go to class. He is a smart, friendly, helpful, and down to earth professor. He likes to talk alot in class but all is relevant to class work and really intresting.
True historian, makes you want to do the same. Lots of essays, tons of reading, fair grader, nice person
Had him a few years ago...great teacher, learned a lot. Made class enjoyable and was always willing to help his students...he's also got some great lifeguarding/bartending skills!
really good teacher, really clear, really fun, keeps you awake, really cute too! haha i would reccomend him to anyone who just needs credits, & cant understand history. take notes & you will do fine.. he is REALLLLY easy on grading papers which is a majority of your points.. so take him!!!
He was a great teacher and a very down to earth guy. He encourages you to form your own opinions in essays and in discussion. He makes history interesting. If you didn't like history in other classes give him the opportunity to teach it to you.
i want to be a history teacher and i will seriously think back to a lot of ways LeVine taught certain things once i'm in the classroom. he makes history so much more interesting and i seriously never dreaded the thought of going to that class. very cool, laid back, understanding guy.
Levine is a hottie! I hate history and he kept my attention through every class. He absolutely loves what he does. He just so excited about what he is teaching that you can't help but listen to him. Great Teacher!
He is a very helpful, nice, and friendly teacher. He make history very interesting and shows a great deal of enthusiasm about what he teaches. One of the best proffessors in Brookdale.
Levine is the man, if you dont get an A in his class, you must have never gone
Mr. Levine is really a nice guy, very understanding and flexable. If you need extra credit he will offer it and quizzes are great, he seemed to always offer bonus points!! I would definetly recommend him, don't expect to get out of class early and sometimes he can be dull but definetly gives a very good opportunity for success!!
great teacher
Jess is a great teacher. He made the trip to Italy so much fun. He didn't make the trip feel like a class, but more of a trip. I can't believe how much we did and saw. We saw all of Italy we could in the short time we were there.
awesome professor!!! helped me go from a D to an A! lots of extra credit worth 10 points! very helpful and understanding. if you are lucky, he lets students bring notecards for the exams.
spoke way too fast that i got confused and could not keep up i didnt like him at all
he is definitely, a great history teacher. he tries his best not to make the subject matter boring, which is helpful. he also doesn't want to see you fail so he gives many chances for extra credit. I hope you all have a nice time like I did in his class.
he's the sweetest guy ever. awesome teacher!
Very easy professor! Makes the subject matter interesting! I was not taking this class for enjoyment-it was required. There were quite a bit of short essays, but he is an easy grader and makes class fun. Gives you extra credit as well. Most likely-you will not need it!

He's a burn out. I can't understand him, and neither can anyone else around me. I dread going to his class everyweek. As long as you show up and do the work, you'll pass, but you'll pass miserably.
Very helpful and he definitely knows his stuff. Tries to make class interesting. Take his class!!
boring
it is true.. he does give a lot of extra credit, but he also gives a lot of essays, so be prepared to write alot.. overall he was ALRIGHT.
he constantly talks about the "tree-huggers" of which he is not. there are sooo many handouts you get lost shuffling through the papers. He does talk really really fast, and his notes that are handed out can be a bit choppy. overall, a decently easy class, and grades pretty fairly usually in your favor.
this professor is wonderful and easy. he give u lots of extra credit through out the semester.he woon't let u fail it. but u have to do the debate paper every week. his tests are easy too but one part that hates me is u have to write two essay in every exam. he give u a choice which oone u want to write. so take him if possible. easy professor.
Professor Levine allowed me sit in on his class when I was doing Native America research on the Seneca Reservation in NY. He was passionate, enthusiastic, and cared about his students. And, he made me think about issues that were very important to me. The fact that he allowed me to sit in on his class without being enrolled says it all.
(Really good looking man) Very clear and so passionate. He cares about each student and their success. He offers help with no problem and wants to see everyone do well! Take him if you get the chance.
Would not reccomend. Very nice professor, but he talks extremely fast, is not very clear about course material, and gives so many handouts that you get lost in all the papers. He is always 15 minutes late to class, and always seems too busy to make individual time for students. All assignments and tests are essays.
Buy yourself a 3 ring binder to keep all the handouts organized. Passionate & Interesting teacher. Show some interest in the class and he'll bend over backwards to help you. Tons of reading! Do a little everynight and you"ll be fine. Pay attention in class- it's more important than the text! Easy on the eyes. ; )
I took this class with him in Italy and he was great. Not demanding at all, but did talk really fast - but who cared; we were in ITALY!!! Had lots of fun - really knows how to party!
Let me tell you ladies. This guy is adorable as well as an awesome professor. I won't lie, he does assign a lot of work, but it is do-able. He has always been very helpful to me and seems to have a thing for girl students (not in a weird way). I learned a ton in his class. Sometimes, he lets classes out early. Take him
This guy rules! One of my favorite 2 teachers EVER! He is highly intelligent, funny, great personality, caring, and yes, HOT! He is one of those people who could probably be physically ugly but would still seem super attractive on personality alone. 2 things though be prepared to read alot and write ALOT. But there is alot of movies and fun too.
His class was easy. He just assigned alot of reading. He kept the class interesting and a nice down to earth guy.
Very nice guy! You write ALOT!! The class requires you to put some time into it, but he is very easy going and willing to work with you. Seek help if you need it he is very approachable.
I RECOMMEND HIM. HES A GREAT TEACHER! JUST DO THE WORK AND YOU WILL GET A GOOD GRADE. A LOT OF PAPERS. NO TESTS. JUST ESSAYS. HE LECTURES A LOT AND IT COULD GET BORING BUT IT GOES BY FAST. FUNNY GUY. HE LIKES TO GIVE OUT A LOT OF B'S =] I WOULD DEF TAKE HIM AGAIN
though i did get an A in the class, i found it to be a class i dreaded going to. i got mostly nothing out of it since he rambled on and on every class reading directly from what he just handed to you and not very clearly at that. i think it was a class consensus that everyone was lost at every single class. my suggestion: don't take 202 with him.
I took Jess in the winterem 07. This was my first winter class and he made it very easy. Granted we did a lot of work, but it wasn't that bad. Excellent teacher. Answers questions throughly. He has that "surfer" look and talk so he is very down to earth. Not a stuck up teacher like others.
i actually took this guy again this semester that is how good i thought he was not a bad speaker may get a little off topic on occasion but he makes all his classes fun regardless and with this guy homework and papers play a pretty small role in class always a plus in my book
One of the best!
he's good looking. talks fast.. read the text and do all of the assigned hw and you should do well on the tests. the lecture is where you'll get the most out of the course. he's not boring and he's really cute

Professor Levine is awesome! He made the class really interesting and got me interested in history. You can tell that he has a passion for what he teaches. If your taking history, take his class!
Took his class online and it was terrible. He forgot about us for weeks at a time and then took his time getting back to you when you had a question. Maybe in a classroom he's different, but I would not take his class online. Did the work, but in the end, it didn't matter.
Jess is the MAN!!! took him for n.a studies TAKE HIM!!!
Levine rules, listen...take Native American studies. Levine helped me broaden my scope on History, truth, and knowledge of the land on which we walk on. Word up. One-
He is a great teacher! I took him for Native Amerian Studies which is hands down the best class I ever took. He is very passionate about the subject matter and it shows. Its not easy but its do-able. Take N.A. studies, you'll love it.
listen, this guy gives so much work that i think he forgets that he teachs at a community college and not a university. He must think we have all the time in the world to do all these assignments. He's hot but his looks arent enought to save him, he talks very fast and scribbles all over the board.
I took Jess for Honors Hist 105 and he is AMAZING!!!! I am a history major anyway but he makes it so much fun to go to class and also touches on aspects of cultures that aren't usually brought up. I would take him over and over!!!! A+++++++++
HONESTLY, he might be a great professor. I took the online version of the class with him this semester, and I never will again. Worst, most unorganized teacher I have ever had. Complete idiot, needs to learn how to teach an online class. Nothing graded, nothing ever worked on.. pathetic employee -- should be fired.
Professor LeVine is friendly and as someone else mentioned, obviously passionate about the subject matter, which I do think is valuable for a history professor. On the other hand, there are so many essays and very little class discussion, so it's hard to sit through. I'm sure this is a result of class size and not the professor's choice.
I think his Summer 3 week course and it was crazy. 3 and a hald ours a day 3 weeks straight. It was alot of work but it was well worth it because taking this class for a whole semester would have been crazy. He is a hard teacher but he is cool and understanding.
Le Vine is the greatest teacher in the history of teachers. 2 friends of mine recommended I take him, so I ended up taking him twice. He is a great teacher and super smart. He doesn't just spew notes from a text book, he actually knows what he's talking about. The work is a little hard but it is college and he's the best. Take him!
Jess is wonderful!! I had no interest in NA Studies and I left with a deeper perspective on many things, even outside of the NA world. Yes - tons of work (papers) and things to read, but it's worth it. If you do all the work, an A is easily achievable.
I am a returning student after 25 year. Jess was my first professor and set the bar for the rest.Yes, there is a lot of work; 2 novels to read and about 10 papers but that is the reinforcement for the lessons. He lectures fast but if you do the homework you will be fine. The exams are essays and you can use notes!! Jess is an EXCELLENT Professor.
Very intelligent, opinionated, and knowledgeable and he?s infatuated with the subject matter. Very intensive class, required 5 homework essays, 1 optional EC essay, and 2 in class exams of 3 essays a piece using only a key phrase note card. Despite the extremely high work load, loved the class and learned many in depth details!
He's extremely interesting and although he goes off on tangents they're always very interesting. my one real criticism was how liberal he is. but whatever, it was good having a hot history teacher.
Jess Levine is a good guy who cares about his students and the subject matter a great deal. You will learn a lot in this class and despite the extensive writing, he grades very leniently. Californian surfer dude turned History professor.
Jess was a great Prof. with a lot of information. He lectures a lot and assigns a lot of work. But as long as you keep up with the assignments, you'll be fine. The hardest part of the class was the essay questions for the test. They had to be written in class and he was a tough grader. Jess has a lot of interesting information but is not an easy A.
Jess is a good guy who seems very laid back and can get along with almost anyone. Easy grader. If you take his 10 week semester he doesn't give tests or quizzes. only papers and the mid term and final are also papers.
if youre not a essay person DO NOT take his class! late to class, not very clear with his words and on essays! overall i had to work my ass off for an elective that i regret. but if you just agree with him in the papers he'll be in your favor for grading
Goes over 30 different things at once . he talks weird hard to understand rambles on and on about useless things. NOT GOOD!!
I took Mr. Levine for 3 different history classes at brookdale. Native American history, American Civilization, and history of NJ. He gives a lot of papers, but if your ever pressed for time, just tell him and hell probably make an exception to the date. If you don't do well in his class ifs your own fault.
Great Professor!
Very Writing Intensive class. I got an A by going above the minimum requirements for his papers which are 2-3 pages, I was turning in 5-6 pages. Mid-term and Final are written too. The writing really makes you think about the subject matter though, you will learn.
He is the best very caring and helpful. He loves his job and is passionate about teaching. He gives every opportunity to do well in the class if you want it.
Has to be the best History Professor in Brookdale! great guy, cheery, helpfulness and clear. great class- funny guy. the midterms and finals were take home essays.
I took several classes with him. Get a binder and keep tack of the articles. Keep up with the readings or you'll be swimming in papers for the tests. Passionate and caring prof. You'll love history. Really, not kidding about staying organized and keeping up with the readings.
Incredible professor. Great lectures. Gives lots of extra credit. He gives a lot of attention to his students and you can tell he really cares. And he LOVES history.
Cool teacher, I had no intrest in this class at all, but he makes it fun. I got a B+ and I have no knowledge about world history. If you do the debate papers which need to contain your opinions more than summarize, and do ok on quizes and do good on the midterm and finals which are not hard because its mostly take home you will be fine like me.
He's okay - definitely not the most knowledgeable historian. He needs to work on his attentiveness to detail and on improving clarity when posing essay questions. Chicks dig him. I give him a B.
He is a good professor and very helpful and I recommand him to be your teacher. you will find his class is interesting and not that hard as you follow his requirement. He is very helpful if you ask any questions. He teaches me the most valuable skill-critical think. I realised I have learned a lot from him and wish his class has not finished.
A nice guy!!!
Took the course online and he stopped responding and grading after the third week. One e-mail mid semester saying he was trying to catch up, but no updates since. No support or feedback at all.
Myself and a friend both took Professor Levine for for Native American History, and had to drop before the second class I never had a professor like this. A 3 page paper is due every other class, on top of reading form the book and packets that he hands out. He was hard to understand, seemed like all he did was ramble on about useless information.
Easily the best Prof. at Brookdale! Had no interest in History prior to taking his class. I am now going to become a History teacher. Really funny guy (especially for an 8am class). Gives you EVERYTHING you need to know in class for the essay questions...there is a reason he rambles on..no one catches it...but the answers are in his rambles!!!
Professor LeVine's class requires a lot of work, but it is worth it. At times, the reading and debate papers could be overwhelming, but if you get a head start on them, you should be fine. He is looking for you to understand and appreciate history in our modern world. Also, like some have already mentioned, he makes a 8 a.m. class doable.
very knowledgeable and very helpful. he expects a lot from his students but only so you forced to learn something. he is really nice and enjoys teaching.
First day he cracks down all his rules & basically has zero tolerance for absences. However, I was absent 3 times & he allowed me to hand in the weekly debate papers I missed for each time AND take those "non re-takable" quizzes. He's super nice when you take the time to talk to him. & he gives extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester!
THIS IS A GREAT TEACHER, HANDS DOWN BEST HISTORY TEACHER AT BCC, YOU WILL DEF LEARN, HIS RAMBLES ARE THE ANSWERS TO THE PAPERS HE HANDS OUT, HES COOL AND FUNNY AT TIMES, HE CARES FOR HIS STUDENTS AND WANTS YOU TO PASS, EASY ON GRADING AS WELL, MUST TAKE!!! OH AND YEA THE CHICKS DIGG HIM...
Jess Levine is an excellent Professor, very helpful to his students. I took his honors class which anyone who takes it knows how much paperwork there is and how many papers you will write per week, but it really doesn't feel as bad as it is because the class is so much fun and unlike any other learning atmosphere at Brookdale. Highly Recommended!
Professor LeVine was an awesome history teacher! He made the 8am class extremely doable! I would definately recommend taking him!
Jess Le Vine is an asset to Brookdale. He is very intelligent and passionate about history. His historical perspectives opened my eyes and meant more to me than just three credits. University-level exp. in a jr. college setting. Be warned: You will write. You will write A LOT. He's a decent grader however. Take a class with Prof. Le Vine!
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS !! WAY TO MUCH WORK, WAY TO MANY PAPERS, THE WORST HISTORY CLASS EVER !
He just keeps BABBLING ABOUT STUPID CRAP that's not going to be helpful for your test. For example, we read about the Persian Empire and all and he just hands out a bunch of worthless papers explaining about stuff. Just unhelpful information comes out of his mouth. He's always rushing his lectures. I worked hard nevertheless, and got a 97. :)
DO NOT take his online class. The tests are four two-page essay questions, so you'll be writing eight pages for a test. You have to write A LOT weekly as well. I could understand all this work if it was my major or a graduate class, but it's a 100-level class. It seriously is not worth all the work you have to put in for him. He expects too much.
LeVine is the man. Quite possibly one of the professors that Brookdale has. Just keep up with the Reading and the debate papers and you'll be set.
Mr. Levine is an excellent teacher of history. I loved his class and I'm taking him again. As long as you listen and do the work, you'll get a good grade.
Made learning a great experience. An otherwise boring topic, very interesting!
i took his online class over the summer, it was really hard. the test we all essays that were rediculus. if i knew what i know, i would not have taken his class online
One of the best classes and learning experiences Ive ever had. The winterterm class I took was really intense but was a joy .
A passionate professor that makes learning enjoyable. I loved taking his classes. Prof LeVine asked alot, you have to do the work and keep up with the reading but he is extremely supportive and helpful.
His class is really hard. I am a history major and a history nerd and I had a hard time in the class. His quizes are really difficult and the reading is redic. There is always a ton of work to do and a crazy amount of papers. The midterm and final are 4 essays 2-3 pages each.
He will not respond for at least 2 or 3 weeks if you email him. His posts online are always spelled wrong and run ons. He also waits until a month has passed before he grades things and will not give you 100% no matter how hard you work. He will tell you that you hit all of the points but still give you a 23 or 24 out of 25.
The guy clearly knows what he is talking about. I wouldn't advise taking him if you hate history, but if you enjoy it than it really isn't that tough of a class. The tests are easy if you know what you're talking about but his class requires a lot of essay writings; on tests and for homework. But again, if you know what your talking about, its easy
Was a very enjoyable class, if you need any help Professor Le Vine is always there to help. He actually cares about his students and tries his very best to let you leave early all the time. The Winterm class of his is very intense but if you pay attention and do all his papers hes a very lenient grader! Such a nice guy.
One of the best and most interesing professors that I had at Brookdale and in college in general. He is very interesting to listen, very informative, enthusiastic and really knows his stuff. His assignments and tests were always fair. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
This guy LOVES history and it made class so much better. He cares about punctuality and attendance but will let you do makeup classes if he's teaching another section. His class has A LOT of writing but it's mostly opinion based and just not that hard. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit. He wants everyone to do well and is a really nice guy.
SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR!!!! highly recommended. He loves history and really gets into the classroom discussion. I took him for an online course and hew as a little slow on grading but made up for it by power grading at midterms and finals. Not the best with answering emails or phone calls but he's an amazing professor. highly recommended!!!
I took the on-line summer class and it was very intense. Topics were due every 3 days which included completion of discussion posts and quiz in between topics work on exams. Lots of reading in book, rgh and articles. It's too cramed - take at the college is easier.
took his online class. other posters are correct he did seem to disappear alot and was very slow to get back assignments. basically no feedback at all on assignments that were alot of work. HOWEVER, if you dont mind writting it is definitely an easy a. very easy grader as long as you do all of the work
Levine is awesome. You do have to do alot of writing. As long as you read the text book you should have no problem writing his papers. It is an easy A. He is very knowlegable and a history fanatic.
Generally a nice guy, loves the subject of world history. However he's all over the place. He pre-types notes before class, puts them up on the projector, and then lectures for 3 hours. None of what he says relates to the lesson. Quizzes and tests based on textbook readings, questions are very specific. Overall do not reccommend.
Comes off as a nice guy, always teaches to the last second of class. Impossible to understand. Lectures are dry and never ending. If you don't complete every assignment he wont give you credit for the entire course. For some reason always makes a reference or comparison to the monmouth mall? overall, he sucks
LeVine is a very nice guy. Loves history, will lecture till the last minute. The lectures were boring and usually had nothing to do with anything. Makes you write a bunch of papers (they're easy but it gets annoying). He is extremely helpful and will help you succeed. The tests are pretty easy as well. If you do all the work you will get an 'A'.
easy class the teacher helps you and lets you rewrite your paper if your grade isnt good enough for you
Debate papers due every class, Quizes every class meeting, Boring Lectures. If you want to pass his class, you need to hand in all your work, and never expect an A. Lecture is confusing, you need to read a lot from the textbook. I recommend him if you don't like getting an A.
LeVine was extremely passionate about every aspect of the class and it was a pleasure to learn from him. Although he sometimes would go off on tangents, he always got back to the point. He is always willing to help even if he is busy. He's such a genuinely sweet guy who loves his job and is passionate about what he teaches. I recommend him 100%
Very enthusiastic teacher and if you have an itch for understanding different sides of the same story this class is for you. He has vast knowledge in this field and it shows. Don't over think the papers the are not dissertations but there are a few of them. Fairly easy grader if you back your opinions up with facts. Dont interrupt him.
Take him in person.
TAKE HIM IN PERSON. He basically forgot about our class and didn't grade our exam for 5 weeks. Expects all essay answers to be MIN. 2 pages in length. You will lose exam points for length regardless of quality. Hes a great teacher in class, but I wouldn't take him online again.
Strongly would not recommend him on his online class. He was very terrible. Didn't show any interest to our online class at all until a few students complained to his boss. Didn't start grading our assignments about half way threw the semester. You also had to guess what chapters the work was on. A lot of work for a 100 section.
Doesnt care about online classes, doesnt answer email, isnt clear about assignments.
Took this class online. As long as you did the work and put a little effort into it you will get an A. He's a really nice guy and an easy grader. Would recommend taking him.
Amazing professor! He is not only very knowledgeable of his subject, but also passionate about it. I hated history until I took his classes - he really made history come alive and interesting! He sincerely cares about students as well and as long as you make an effort he will help you in any way he can. Wish all profs were like him. :-)
Speaks so fast you can't understand anything he's talking about. Goes off on tangents all the time. He never lectures on what's on the syllabus for that week and nothing he goes over in class will help you write the papers. You're basically on your own the entire semester. He's really a very nice guy but not a good professor unfortunately
Don't take him for Honors World Civ I unless you want more work than you've ever had in your life. 10+ readings and a 3-4 page paper due EVERY week, 6-12 page midterm, 12 page term paper. Save yourself.
One word.. B O R I N G.I never really did love history and this class changed nothing. Although there are many opportunities to do well in this class it is def one of those "teach yourself" kinda classes. He will talk all 2 hours and 45 min of the class and thats it. Doesnt write notes on board . nothin.. only allows one absence. i woudnt recomend
Awful. Reading every week. Quiz every week. Two page paper due every week. Teaches the geography and art of the civilization. I was late one day by a half an hour, and I didn't miss a thing, he was lecturing on registering to vote.
HORRIBLE,Taking this online is THE WORST Unless you LOVE history, have time to read chapters upon chapters and some of the reading is POINTLESS,write a TWO PAGES FOR EACH QUESTION on each exam, do postings and respond to at least two classmates,DO NOT TAKE IT. BORING and WAY too much work for a 3 credit course. Bunch of nonsense busy work.
Awesome teacher.. Very passionate and an easy grader.. Very helpful and explains what he's looking for down to ling essay questions on exams.. Put in effort and it's an easy A
Didnt like this course at first.. but he is awesome. Although teaching all 2 hours and 45 min.. he is super clear and if you study the quizes you will do great on the tests.. he gives u the essay question on the test.. and he is not a hard grader for essays.. I always did horrible in history.. this is the first A i ever received in a history course
Great teacher, but be prepared to write write write!!!! Would not recommend unless you are willing to write a paper EVERY week!
Do not take his online class. Confusing with due dates and he wants endless comments on the discussion board. There is too much work and once you are behind, you stay behind. The history you are learning does not match up and it seems scattered. Even his discussion questions are confusing. Do not waste your time.
Take this class! Even if you're a business student. Just take it. Jess is engaging, has a passion for the subject, and doesn't mail it in as so many others do. He asks provocative questions and allows students to take academic risks. If there were a history department survivor tournament; he'd win! Take this class, you'll walk away with so much.
Stoner history Easy A
Levine is pretty easy on grading. Make sure you come to class, he doesn't like it when people miss it. He won't let you out of the class unless you do all the work. He's an easier grader so just do it. I would take him again. Oh and a little hint, all the quizzes you take their the questions on your exam.
i took him for the winter course and it is a lot of material, but sometimes he trails off topic. he has outlines for each lecture, but his ideas aren't organized. read material before class so you aren't lost. other then that he is a great teacher.
Professor LeVine is a good teacher, he assigns a 2 page paper once a week based on the reading that you have done. There's no quizzes or tests and the midterms and finals are long papers so get ready to do work when you sign up for his Vietnam class. But it's an easy class.
I took american civ 1 over winter. It was very long and a lot of work but it was not hard. We had a paper every night but he's a very easy and fair grader. Overall, this class was easy and interesting. He is so passionate and loves to be there, that just made the class easier to get through especially during winter break.
Mr Levine is an excellent teacher. He knows a lot about history. Expect to Write a paper every week. He speaks a lot but the class And the content are very interesting. I would take his class Again
He lectured most of the time and showed the class different items such as writings and maps. He never uses power point, and you will learn a lot of the material through the readings for the 4 essays and take home mid term and final you do. Very knowledgeable in his field. Glad I took him. Challenging course, made me a better student. Take him.
You're in a class and he just rambles on and on. You don't go over what you read in class. you're basically on your own. exam isn't an exam you literally have to write over two pages for each question he made up. he doesnt provide notes or power points or anything. IM COMPLETELY LOST. DONT EVEN BOTHER
Never take this class especially online. He gives way too much work. You have 3 days to complete an entire chapter of work and no time to write the two page paper for each question on the test. It's impossible to get this work done and he doesn't even care to grade any of the work.
Could be great if he were more involved in his online classes. Very slow to grade; expect to wait up to 3 weeks if not more to get an exam grade back. Barely provides feedback, and expects that your whole life is his history class.
If you ready to work hard, then take this class, It is pretty easy to get A , if you ready to spend some time for this class. From my view of point, he is the best professor for this class, he always makes questions in the discussions and reply to your email shortly. He knows a lot about the history. Criminal Justice, Md
I hate history. Hate it. He made it bearable. He really, really cares. He's wildly passionate about his field. My misery in this class came from me, not from him. He absolutely gives you opportunities to make stuff up, correct papers you don't do well on, and get back on track if you fall behind like I did. I'm thankful I had him, honestly.
Really passionate about history! Class is very interesting and you are challenged to think. Prof. gives you every opportunity to do very well in this class. He will help you in any way possible. Would definitely recommend this professor to the serious student who is looking to learn.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. His online class is horrible. So much reading and is VERY unclear (his essay questions are him rambling) and i love history this class was unpleasant.
This class is a lot of work. You have quizzes and essays every week the only good thing I can say was that as an athlete he's willing to work with you.
lots of papers but they only need to be 2 pages and he sets you up for the papers with lots of questions that you easily answer in your writing. just show him effort and hand things in on time and you will pass
tookd this class for online course for 11 week. dont do it. doesnt go over anything. eexpects you to be in love with history like him. in one week, had to do 7 assignments. groupd discussions that are forced. he DOESNT GRADE ON TIME. he will work with you when needed. dont take this course online. just do the 15 weekls in class and save yourself.
Very passionate about history, makes it interesting and relates it to the present day. very accessible, cares a lot, wish he offered more classes that fit my requirements. grading is straightforward and he offers EC. very fair, respects student input and feedback. encourages involvement in brookdale student life and government. respect him a lot.
Great professor. I looked for more classes of his that fit my requirements, but couldn't find any. Very passionate about history and relates the past to the present day. encourages student participation as active, informed citizens and students at BCC. really tries to excite, inspire and encourage students as "the next generation of Americans."
I had Professor LeVine for Honors History and you have to write A LOT. For Honors, it was about five pages every week and a twelve page research paper. That being said, it's Honors so the curriculum is a bit more heavy, but it definitely prepared me for after Brookdale. My s/o had him and had to write two pages every week and had tests. Just study.
It doesn't bother me he gave a lot of work, it bothers me that the papers he makes you write are SO boring. he made me hate history. my sister is a history teacher and even she felt bad for me seeing the topics of the papers he made us write. he didn't make anything interesting and graded them so tough.
Hes hw heavy . Lots of reading
Dont take this class in the summer if you want a social life
I took the Summer 1, online 6 week course & it could be a time consuming class but if you read you will be completely fine. Mr. Levine was very easy to get a hold of by email and responded quickly. You need to participate in the discussions to pass but he only requires a few sentences. Just do the readings and you will be fine!
Be prepared to do a ton of reading. The things that you read will be on the 10 multiple choice quiz every week. The quizzes are easy. I love his enthusiasm when talking about history. You write around 4 papers for this class, also being very easy. I would take this class again.
Took this class a 6 week summer course. definitely a lot of work to cram into 6 weeks but stay diligent and you will be fine.
Took Prof La Vine's course during the winterim. Yes we had to read and Yes we did papers but if I could get through it with a A so can you. Stay disciplined and set time to read a do your papers and you will be fine. He made it very interested and trye to get the class involved, so respect him pay attention and you to could learn a lot an get an A
Class is definitely easy but not fun. I took it for credit and I have an A, however I read the text book every week and you have to write 2 page papers. Sounds harder than it actually is. He drags the class on sometimes past the time and hes ALWAYS late. He calls people out if they get up to go to the bathroom. Only take for an easy A.
This professor is HORRIBLE! This professor opened up all of the modules at the beginning of the class then proceeded to tell us that we were not able to move ahead from things he has not assigned yet, he emailed one day before the end of the class to go finish everything last minute or you would receive an incomplete that included a 7 page essay!
This professor is all over the place and truly screwed up my whole summer. The wrong textbook was posted to canvas. All assignments and dates had to be changed. Professor Levine would only update one assignment per week. By the end of the class we were so behind, all 5 assignments and a paper were opened up to us and we only had 5 days to finish it
This class is terrible he gives you boat loads of hw theres a report every single week in this class do not take unless its a must
This is the worst class I ever took he makes his attends mandatory but his class has nothing to do with the test at. all you can pay attention and it wont make a difference. I recommend getting a good laptop for this class so you can do other work. He also gives weekly quizzes and weekly 2 page reports. The reports are easy just a huge pain
Took Professor LeVine for fall semester and honestly he was a great teacher, he linked the topics were going throw with everyday life. Made it more easier to understand! He really an amazing teacher, if you had a problem with anything he would gladly help you out to solve the problem!!!!!
he's nice. there are about 5 papers for the course and usual quizzes which are like 10 questions to remind you what you read/learn from the textbook and scans on canvas. the tests were ehh but he does give the class a little bit answers here and there. there are extra credits if you feel like your grade is going downhill.
I loved Professor LeVine. He was really passionate about Native American Studies and you could tell that throughout his lessons. I was excited to go to class every week and was so glad I took this class! The class consisted of about 6 papers and if you try you will succeed very well. And Prof LeVine is ready to help as much as he can. Great prof!
Professor Levine was great! I took my first history class with him and altho I was overwhelmed with the amount of assignments I had to complete, he is a great professor. He is an easy grader and participation in the discussion forums are SUPER important! Be sure to respond to 3 other student's posts and you'll do great! Will take his courses again!
I loved professor Levine, he was really good with grading, and was easy to reach out of class. I did get overwhelmed with the amount of work in the course, but as long as you take the time to do it, you will be fine. It was only a 6 week course, so I was expecting to work. He grades really easy, and is awesome!!
Truly the worst class that I've ever taken. Professor Levine was difficult to get in touch with, was extremely unhelpful and unprofessional, and when he was questioned about a grade he decided to recommend to admissions that I should not be allowed to enroll in fall courses. You can learn more on Khan Academy than in his class.
Prof LeVine is a great professor. I took him for World Civ (online) 15 week semester and after reading reviews on here I was skeptical about how the semester would go. Work load was to be as expected (not as bad as others made seem). He is a fair grader. 3 exams. Extra credit available.
Easily one of my favorite professors at Brookdale! Even though he gives a lot of homework and quizzes, he makes it easy for you to get points. As long as you do the work, you'll pass.
I literally took as many classes as possible with him because of how great of a person and teacher he is. He truly cares for you as an individual and will help you if you ask for it. He is always will to meet with you. Honestly just do your work and you will pass. Tests are easy to pass as long as you study the quizzes.
Took his class online. 2 discussion boards & 1 quiz per week. 3 exams total. If you participate in the discussion boards as required in his syllabus you will do well. The only times I was marked lower than a 100% on an assignment was if I did not respond enough times which was my own error. Great prof! Would highly recommend! Super knowledgeable!
This man gives an ungodly amount of work with little to no time to get it done.
Professor LeVine is an excellent teacher. Im taking a 2 week long winter course with him and its a lot of work but as long as you do the necessary readings youll be fine! Hes an easy grader as well and as long as you do the Discussion posts youll pass. His papers are fairly easy if you do the readings.
WORST prof I have ever had in my life. I took 2 winter classes and he assigned 3x the amount of work as other. He doesn't even teach. I learned more in a 5 minute YouTube video than this whole class. He assigned the equivalent of 16 papers. No coincidence he has multiple 1 reviews and the people who gave him a 5 are just being nice. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Took completely online 2 week class with LeVine and I never hated life more. The assignments posted on canvas is super super confusing. Gives way toooo much work and no time to get it done. you have 24 hours to do everything because he locks the assignments until the day their due. Also, Levine was more concerned with politics than helping us
Solid Gem
Took his honors class, and each week was a living nightmare He'd give you about 34 articles to read through, which he claims you can "skim", yet he expects you to either cite or refer to each source in your "2-3 page paper". And if you have any questions, expect the answers to be vague, and never expect a 100%. Lots of internal/external screaming.
This is the worst class I have EVER taken. The WEEKLY debate papers were so vague and he was the worst at feedback. The weekly quizzes really effect your grade DO NOT GET LOW ON THEM. Lectures are 3 HOURS and a 5 minute clip on youtube provides you with more information. Save your sanity and dont take this class.
Worst professor by far. If you want to save yourself from bombing a semester, stay AWAY from Prof. Levine. He barely responds to his emails, and if he does, its barely an answer. He is extremely biased and conceded, and every part of his lecture was miserable. Save yourself the sleepless nights of doing nothing but work for his class. Beware.
He doesn't really teach you anything. You basically teach yourself from the textbook and reading assignments and get little to no feed back. He is a pompous and I would not recommend his class to anyone.
Mr. Levines class has done nothing but mentally drain me over the course of this long semester. Im so glad I finished, it felt like it would never end. The amount of work he assigns is more than a full time secretary at Amazon. Seriously, I was late to my job time and time again because I had so much work it was sickening. He has a huge ego too....
I took the honors section because I needed more honor credits. I have to hand it to the professor, he made me want to drop the class after 10 minutes. I couldn't drop it but I did hate every second of it. He gives a ridiculous amount of work (weekly paper) and we didn't learn anything. So much mental screaming and stress. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
LeVine does not respond to emails whatsoever! I emailed him multiple times throughout the semester and did not receive any answers. The amount of reading that you have to do in this class is ridiculous. Textbook chapters are 30-50 pages long and you have to read AT LEAST 2 extra articles, sometimes 4, that are anywhere between 2-25 pages long!
Long lectures, the papers are ridiculous (final was a six page report, three questions , two pages each)
Professor LeVine is amazing. I took him for this past winterim for HIST135 and loved it. He makes the lectures interesting and brings in ideas from all the students. He doesnt want a textbook answer, he wants you to think for yourself! If your taking this in the winterim be prepared for lots of reading and lots of papers.
Professor Levine is very knowledgeable on his course materials, and overall is a pleasant person to be around. Very laid back and flexible with deadlines, will try his best to make each lecture interesting.
think other reviews are for different professor as this is a woman who is wonderful, 12 chapters only 2 participation questions twice weekly, 10 ques quiz and only 2 essays for whole course. she is prompt, kind, inspiring and allows for late work & gives ample & i mean tons of chances to catch up or get extra credit. Take her 105 shes awesome
in his class on the break writing this.lots of reading(50-100) pages per week. if you are a smart kid, you'll be fine. I put zero effort and maintain a 90. 2-3 page paper due every week, and once a month you'll have a 5 page exam. no normal tests, he's political af, and always talks about the inequalities of life. no teach just talk, opinion n ego
Took Professor Levine over the summer online (distance) for World Civilizations I. It was definitely a class I was happy I took online. Every class we had two written assignments due in a few days which included responding to other people's posts in a "discussion," and we wrote at least 3 papers. It was straight-forward and you knew what to expect.
Structured, and participates often. Assignments were laid out well, and was available when needed.
If I wrote my papers the same way he wrote his instructions, I would have failed the class. Tons of grammatical errors. The dude just takes his words per minute way too serious. His instructions are unclear, with this being an asynchronous class, that is a bit of an issue. PLUS HE LOVES TO USE CAPS LOCK.
Great professor, passionate about the topic. Sincerely wants you to get the most out of class. 2-3 weekly DQs & short quizzes, paper every other week. Papers are clear, and lets you know exactly what he wants to see on them. He provides all the material you need, no need to ever look at outside sources. He's really kind and responsive to emails.
(hist 138) nice guy. there are little to no instructions. the papers weren't that hard but his instructions are impossible to read. also he has 2 unit exams with 4 papers each (something that can be answered in less than a page half the time). he doesn't grade harshly but it was annoying having to come up with a final project with 0 guidelines.
You MUST be looking at him at all times, if he catches you looking away for just one second he will call you out. Fair warning
His class is so interesting, I loved it because he teaches different things from the classic info you find in books. He gives a lot of homework, many papers and 2 discussions a week and he is a bit tough on the grade. I loved this class even you need to work hard and actually read all the material if you want to get a great grade!
I have to say he is one of the most understanding professors. I took the 11-week course which is already hard due to more work in a shorter span. There were essays almost every week but I reached out and expressed my stress and he was so understanding and let me take my time. Im sure he did with others as well. Just do the work and you will succeed
Class never ends early and lectures are heavy. Quizzes every week, and essays every other week. You have to be looking at him or the board at all times, because Heaven forbid you look away from him for one second or you're not looking at the board, he will call you out in front of everyone and say "Are you with me?" a bunch of times.
There are lots of Lectures, so be ready to take notes. The professor is very understanding. If you're struggling, reach out. There are quizzes every week. If you show that you care, he will too. He is extremely knowledgeable about History so if you're a history major, Take him!
Great professor overall understanding and will help you pass the class
2 page essay homework every week & quiz every week before class. lectures never ever end early and are super super boring and slow. first exam is due next week, it's a 6 page essay assigned to us today. he's a nice guy but i don't recommend, at least not his online course, maybe he's diff in person👍
This professor rambles for a long time. He goes on tangents which leads to part of the whole lesson to be two parts. He gives pop quizzes. He also expects us to read a chapter or two for the next class which had included a quiz. There are three exams. You have to answer 20+ multiple choice questions AND write two essays, one long and short.
Just took Professor Le Vines online HIST-135 summer class. A LOT of work but very clear with what is expected. Do not take online if you cannot pace yourself with discussion posts because that is the a huge part of your grade and will fail otherwise. Time management is key with him. If you lack that find another professor. I loved him.
Honestly this class and professor was one of the worst experiences of my life, makes a class that seems easy almost impossible with the workload and all the quizzes and tests, it just feels like he wants you to be overwhelmed and stressed out and even fail, only take him if you hate your life!
Hes great, even though he wants your camera on during zoom meets and expects you to participate. The only homework is a 200 word debate paper every week, which is very easy. Every class you do have to take a "quiz" which is also easy. He is a laid back teacher. It requires a textbook, but i never bought one and still passed the class. Hes changed.
Good lectures, good personality, he's himself not some persona of a professor. Down to earth. EC is VERY generous, if you just do all the assignments you'd have a hard time getting less than a B. You will read a lot, about 300-400 pages through the semester. Overall a good experience if you actually want to learn and not just check this off a list.

Prof. Levine is very passionate about history. Easy class. Little quiz on the reading each class, but 9 times out of 10 he gives you at least 4 of the answers. His tests are easy, just know the stuff and you'll be fine. He loved to engage in actual conversation and it made the class very interesting.
