All her lectures are based on power point slides which are available online but you have to be in class to have all of the info. Only 3 exams based on at least 5-6 chapters:50 multip.choice & 5 short answers where you have to be very specific!! its super hard to remember 6 chapters and be specific on any possible question she may ask.Must read book
She expects you to be thorough with her lectures and the book. Book is elaborate. There are 2 term projects and 3 Exams. Exam include 50 X choice questions and 5 SA. You have to be very specific about the answers. Attendance is mandatory. If this is the only course you are taking, you will try hard to get a B. Lectures are boring. Good luck.
You will be graded for two term projects, three exams, and attendance. Be thorough with her lectures and the detailed book. She grades you for participation in the class. Very picky grader. She talks for 110 minutes per lecture. She focuses more towards the research rather than understanding the subject. Not a very helpful course.
If you miss a class, you're screwed. If you can't memorize 10 pages of vocabulary for each of the 3 term tests, you're screwed. Seriously, this class is damn impossible. She explicitly told the class "I expect the class average to be a C through the course". GPA killer.
the course is not too hard. had to study a little bit but as long as you pay attention in class all you need are her power points. The book can be used for things she didnt cover in class but only a minimum number of questions are asked from the book that wherent covered in class. plus she usually gives curves on exams. 2 exams and 2 easy papers
This teacher is okay for anyone who can learn easily by reading a book. However, everyone else can expect a C or less if you do not learn from reading easily. She will not help you develop different strategies for reading and rather will just tell you to go see the tutors.
Class is a serious GPA killer. Reads off PowerPoint slides the entire class. Doesn't assign homework so how you learn the material is up to you. Don't take her class if you can't memorize concepts or hate reading out of a book.
Great teacher! Take good notes, print out her lecture slides and actually study the information! Yes, you actually have to put in some work... shocking! If you want to be lazy and get an easy A don't take this class. You do need to put in some work to learn the info but it is well worth it. Compared to other psych classes this class is a breeze!
Great teacher! Definitely sit in the front of the class so it's easier to pay attention. Tests are definitely harder, and so taking good notes is essential. If you do not print her powerpoints before class then you are screwed. Take excellent notes and study and you're golden! She's awesome!
The class was very interesting and she is a fun teacher, but her tests are really hard and a lot of what is on the long study guide isn't actually on the test.
She's an awesome teacher, one of the best I've ever had. As of this year, her tests are IDENTICAL to her study guides. Not an easy course, but anyone can get an A if you just look over study guides before the 3 tests. I highly recommend her. She's awesome, great sense of humor and willing to help you in any way. She wants her students to succeed.
I like Prof Comer a lot, and I found her classes interesting, however, the tests are extremely difficult as they are so far apart and you have to know so much material for them. I am not good at memorizing, and while I would study for hours before each test, I still struggled, and I got a lower GPA than I would've liked.
Class was interesting, and Prof Comer was a good teacher, however, the tests were extremely difficult as they each contained so much material, and the study guides don't really narrow anything down, so you have sometimes hundreds of topics to go over before each test, which I found very difficult.
After taking this class, I decided to get a minor in psychology. Dr. Comer made the class really interesting by supplementing the lectures with video clips or interesting photos. 3 easy essays, 4 tests, and a participation grade (which is given by the amount of in-class exercises you hand in). As long as you study and pay attention, you will pass.
This class is NOT easy, but certainly worth it. Dr. Comer is an excellent lecturer and really knows her stuff. Her exams are pretty tough, but she gives you tips throughout the semester on ways to memorize. As long as you come to class and take notes it should be easy to keep up. I Really really liked Dr Comer
If you plan on taking her. Read the textbook. Her lectures can be helpful. However. Her study guides for the test are massive. Need to know too much for too little on the test. Doesn't use textbook at all. Read off of slides. Test challages are worthless.
AWESOME professor. Extremely hard grader and tough tests but I learned a ton! I want to sit in on her lectures even if I'm not in the class! She is really a great professor and I highly suggest taking her if you are willing to put in work.
Very tough grader. If you don't come to her classes and take notes from her power points, you are screwed, because the book doesn't help you much. She expects you to memorize everything on this planet Earth that is related to psychology. Wouldn't recommend it for people who are not into psychology.
Loved her. She is definitely pretty strict, but when you have classes with over 150 students, that's not a bad thing. It was a class I definitely enjoyed going to. Exams were tough, but she gives you a clear outline of all topics that will be on them so you can focus your studying. Overall not too bad at all if you go to classes.
She is a fantastic lecturer. She explains material well and makes it interesting. Study guides are posted for each test which covers all material on the test; these are long but if you do it, you will do good. Would like to have again.
Dr. Comer is a great professor - HIGHLY recommended. Her lectures are interesting and she only gives 4 tests all semester. There's absolutely no way to fail these if you study, she basically gives you the answers in her practice handouts. Only 3 papers all semester, also, which are simple. A++ on this professor course.
Comer is an excellent professor. She puts all of her lecture powerpoints on mycourses before class, making note taking easy! Her tests are fair; make sure you study. She also gives numerous extra credit opportunities and makes the class interesting. This class made my double major in psych.
She is a great professor. I am a Computer Science major and I seriously considered changing to Psychology because of how great she was. Take her class if you actually want to learn some interesting things, don't take it if you just want to get it out of the way. I have to admit that it is fairly easy to pass the class though.
Dr. Comer knows her stuff, and her lectures are interesting and easy to understand. I ended up double majoring in psych after taking her class!
She's one of the best teachers I ever got at RIT. Hilarious lectures and very passionate about what she teaches. She helps out a lot and makes class fly by. I would keep taking all her classes.
Very fun and easy if you pay attention in lecture. 10/10 would take her class again
Excellent professor, engaging lectures, and the tests are fairly easy if you show up to class, pay attention, and skim over your notes a few times. Would take again. Attendance isn't "mandatory", per se, but there are some small bits of graded classwork that you'll miss by skipping.
Dr. Comer is an amazing lecturer. She makes sure to relate the course topics to real life. As long as you do well on the three written response pieces, 4 exams, and attend class, you will not have to take the final. Dr. Comer does rely on her TAs to grade everything. They can be inconsistent, so attend the review sessions to find out what they want
This was one of the more challenging ones that I took during the semester, but she manages to make the lectures both entertaining and educational. I had to study for the tests quite a bit, but they're not unreasonably difficult and won't destroy your grade if you can average "B"s on them. Despite the I had to put into this, I have no regrets.
Dr. Comer is a great professor. Her lectures are very interesting and well organized. Her tests can be very difficult, but if you do the practice handouts and go to the review sessions you will do well. I highly recommend taking a psych class with her as long as you're willing to put work in.
Attend ALL classes or be sure to get a D. She doesn't correct anything except the final exam. Her teaching assistants (masters students) correct all the homework and response pieces and they are pretty horrible graders.
Dr. Comer is an interesting professor. She is quirky yet very passionate about her field of study, especially Developmental Psychology. She sets a clear grading criteria and gives out study guides before the tests. The tests aren't impossible and she gives bonus points on some tests. Study a week before and you'll be fine!
She is so entertaining to listen to. Jessamy makes you actually want to go to class. Her tests are a little hard, but she makes study guides and practice handouts. Overall super awesome professor.
This class was my favorite for the entire year, I already have enrolled in another class with her. Her teaching assistant grades for her and the one that I had was amazing. I would recommend writing your notes ahead of time with the powerpoint she posts and then listening in class. Also going to the exam prep with the teachers assistant is helpful
I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you are looking for an easy class to fill in a perspective, but if you are interested in Psychology it's definitely worth it. She posts study guides that outline everything that will be exam, including practice handouts with the exact short answer questions. You have to study, but it's worth it.
Great class if you're interested in psychology. Great professor, she is interesting and has you participate occasionally. Tests include a lot of material, so you need to always be reviewing the information if you want to pass.
Teaches so it's almost always interesting.
A great intro course with interesting lectures. Workload is manageable, and tests are fair, and study guides are very useful.
Psychology 101 was a tough class for me to take. I am not really interested in psychology and the class was very lecture heavy. However, Dr. Comer tries to make the lectures as interesting as she can while she has to go through all of the content. Gives extra credit, very clear with grading criteria. GO TO THE TEST REVIEWS!!!
Dr. Comer is by far one of my favorite professors at RIT. Although the exams cover a lot of material, if you do the study guides and put time into studying you can easily manage a high B at the very least. Her lectures are interesting, and although they're some work, the papers assigned helped my grade and were worth it. Take Dr. Comer if you can!!
Dr. Comer is awesome. She is far from the stereotypical college professor -- she curses like a sailor and loves to make the subject material relatable and straight-forward. The lectures are simple but interesting. All that really goes into the grade is three reports and some exams. Her final is optional and replaces the lowest exam (Yay! Easy A!)
make sure you study for exams and GO TO REVIEW SESSION. the ta's help you a lot before the exams.
Dr. Comer was my favorite professor of the semester--her lectures are interesting, she's funny, not too many graded things in her class (4 exams, 3 response pieces, optional final). Would definitely recommend to anyone.
This was one of the few lectures I've taken that have genuinely interested me. Comer makes psych 101 fascinating and easy to understand. It's not an easy A, but if you put in a reasonable amount of work and follow (the very clear) criteria provided for papers, you should be fine.
Dr. Comer is an ok teacher and the class content is easy. She produces a very toxic learning environment which makes one feel like they cannot approach her for any help or conversation in general.
REACH OUT! Honestly, in a setting without much one on one it could be easy to fail this class. Especially if you come into it with a gen-ed mindset. But if you send rough drafts to the TA's ask for more feedback (doesn't give a lot), and work hard it will turn into an interesting and mind stimulating class.
Very interesting lectures and Professor Comer's personality makes them even better. The test questions came right from the notes which were all posted online. A lot of resources for studying as well.
Gives an insane amount of homework, quizzes, and assignments. Very overwhelming.
I absolutely loved this class. The online format is the best, hands-down. Dr. Comer is quick to respond, super helpful, and her lectures are easy to follow. Tests were open notes & textbook. Just make sure to go through all the material and keep up on deadlines!
Lots of mundane quizzes and homework.
difficult grader, you will WORK for that grade
I took this class asynchronously, but Dr. Comer's lectures were so interesting that it felt as if I was with her in person. She definitely makes you work for a good grade, but is flexible, gives great feedback, and is very easy to meet with outside of class. I really enjoyed working with Dr. Comer and I hope I can have her again in the future.
I took the class asynchronously. The lectures were good, they were engaging and a good length. What frustrates me is that at the beginning of the semester she sent an email asking people to stop sending her "unnecessary emails." This was an asynchronous class with lectures recorded over COVID, all she had to do was grade and answer emails.
While Professor Comer is a very nice person the way she lays out the workload is awful. Each week was broken into two sections and had about 4-6 hours of work attached to it depending on if you truly read the assigned readings. Also breaks just mean the same work load over less days so 3 day weekends means you're working on homework like normal.
For an asynchronous class, this was surprisingly well done. Everything was laid out plainly, and it was always clear what needed to be done each week. She used myCourses better than any other teacher I've seen. The class is a bit of a slog because of the amount of reading and note-taking, but it works if you spread the work over the week.
By far, one of my favorite classes at RIT. The workload is reasonable, the lectures are interesting, and the class itself is easy. Professor Comer is a very nice person and she is accessible outside of class, along with TAs. Only complaint I have is that she doesn't always cover all the material during class time.
Prof. Comer is an amazing lecturer. She had a joyful demeanor and was very helpful when it comes to answering questions. The textbook is online, and she doesn't teach everything that's on the quizzes; she is very up front about this. The assignments were very short and the material itself is incredibly helpful for everyday life. This isa good class
Her lectures were really interesting. However, she does not cover everything that comes in the quizzes. You have to read the textbook to know everything. The weekly assignments were really easy. The response pieces are generously graded if you follow the rubric. A great course and you also learn actually helpful things.
Good experience with her for intro to psych. There are basic assignments to do every week but they are graded for completion only. She also does random participation activities which are required, so its good to miss as few classes as possible. Quizzes and exams are all open notes. Overall an easy class if you put in even minimal effort
Really fun lectures, participation is earned by attendance and it random per lecture, not every lecture has a attendance but her lectures are really fun to learn. HW is easy just a few questions online and response pieces are graded easily
She's terrifying, but she's also funny and knowledgeable. You can tell she's really passionate about her research. She's not really accessible outside of class, and she's very intimidating when you try to talk to her. I'm not sure if attendance is mandatory, but she does in class participation activities that count towards your attendance grade.
This rating reflects more of her TA's than her as a professor, as I see her more as a lecturer. I'm genuinely not certain she ever graded any of my work herself, contact her TA's for any help you need or grading complaints. An hour of homework a week with quiz questions straight from the textbook or lecture slides, it's an easy A if you do the work
Turned boring perspective into an interesting few hours each week. She was able to make lectures not sound boring and fairly interesting and easy to follow along, and provided the slides/resources online to access anytime. She uses an online textbook for all HW, which can be frustraing but okay. Tough grader for essays, but drops some low grades.
Dr.Comer is a lovely teacher. She has an online quiz once a week and homework assignments that are multiple-choice. She gave many extra credit opportunities and it's hard to fail the class if you complete the work. She drops a bunch of grades. No exams and the final is online. She does a random participation activity but no attendance besides that.
Professor Comer is a fantastic professor! She has awesome lectures and provides lots of opportunities for extra credit and drops the lowest scores for papers/quizzes. I've really enjoyed my time taking intro to psych with her, and I can't wait to take upper-level psych with her again!
Easy A for $80. You have to pay for the online textbook bc thats where you do the hw. Final was online and can be taken anywhere. Certain days would be taken down for attendance. Attend 10 out of the 15 days, it would be 100 for attendance.
Such a great teacher. Genuinely learned so much and always looked forward to her class.
Dr. Comer is amazing. Her lectures are fun and the homework load is not heavy. She is well educated and will answer questions in class. It is a goof course to take, just to be familiar with the content. There is 3 writing pieces throughout the semester and one gets dropped. All quizzes are online as well as the final.
Dr. Comer does a wonderful job in turning the dense content of the course into an easily digestible lecture. The way she teaches clicks for me and I feel encouraged to immersion in psyc because of her. All tests including the final are open-book and online. The textbook is imperative as it has most of the HW, and she periodically grades attendance.
I mostly enjoyed the celebrity project, but boy, it was A LOT of work. Nonetheless, the class was good. She was a tougher grader than in PSYC 101. Take advantage of her office hours, it REALLY helps out significantly! DON'T skip class; you only get UP TO three freebies.
Absolutely loved this course and Dr. Comer. She is a very easy grader, and she splits up the big paper into multiple sections, so it is not that much work. There were weekly readings and assignments that were extremely easy, and the exams were all take-home. Overall, this course is very easy and interesting, and Dr. Comer is very nice.
She makes Psychology fun to learn, her lectures are entertaining and engaging, her quizzes & tests are open note, what more can you ask for? Side notes: attendance is recorded randomly via "Participation Activities" throughout the semester, HW/quiz are due at the end of each week, the slides she lectures on are posted in the myCourses. 9.2/10
Easy to fair amount of work. Just a weekly textbook reading (skippable) and online activities. Generous extra credit opportunities, and multiple assignments dropped. Lectures are pretty engaging too, and I actually learned from them. 12-16 random participation activities throughout the semester, but you only need 10 for full participation credit.
Amazing lecturer, absolutely no complaints there. In terms of pure teaching skills, she may have been the best professor I had this semester. One small complaint that I have is that she didn't really come off as approachable for help. She was a bit hostile when I came to her after making a mistake early on, but other than that she was great.
She's great. Her lectures are pretty good and she pops a few jokes here and there. Homework is online and needs to be purchased. The textbook comes with the purchase and is heavy on assignments. Lots of extra credit opportunities but take this class if you are a workaholic and are desperate for a slight gpa boost. I like it so far.
Very easy lecture to sit through despite being a 9am, not very difficult, especially if you took AP psych before this. If you didn't i could see you struggling more than I did, but the work is very manageable. Overall really good class and really good lecturer
All online grading things except for class participation, only reason to go to class. Lots of "busy" work. Very nice and funny professor. Have to buy online hw application. Easy A if you do the work.
Comer is GREAT! Go to lecture, participate when she asks, and enjoy it. By far one of the best psych classes I have taken. Final exam was online and she gave a study guide
Absolutely amazing! Would totally recommend her for any of your psych classes. Her grading is very common-sense and she gives great feedback. She puts a lot of weight on discussions, but if you participate you're good. She knows her stuff and is very insightful!
Amazing professor, super engaging and I enjoyed the course a lot. Would love to have this prof again
A thoroughly engaging teacher with clear and concise expectations for grading. Also has a great sense of humor.
Her lectures are fun, and the material is easy to learn. She does open internet quizzes each week and the final is open internet. She does about 20 participation activities throughout the semester which you need to be in class for, but otherwise you don't really need to be in class because she posts the lectures online. Easy class, fun professor.
Took intro to psych with her. Really easy class with a plethora of material available to use for the quizzes. She's also hilarious which helps keep you awake. Attendance is partially mandatory as you need to be there for the activities which constitute 20% of the grade (she won't tell you when they are but they're really easy).
Dr. Comer's teaching is very enticing and makes her presentations very engaging. You often have paper-based activities within class that you do for attendance, so attending class is very important. A lot of items are graded by her TAs, so be aware of that when asking most questions. I would recommend this class for your science/math perspective.
For Comer, all homework and turn-ins are online, making the class easy. However, if you miss class, your grade tanks.
Everything is online. There are quizzes every week, but they're super easy. Offers extra credit every week for your tests, and there are only three papers that are graded by the TAs. Go to class because she randomly does participation activities. There are weekly assignments too, but you can do the whole course ahead of time if you want to.
Professor Comer was amazing, and if you could take her class, take it. She drops your lowest grade for almost everything and gives a lot of extra credit. Her lectures are super engaging, but you could miss 2 with no consequences. She did require an online textbook, but technically you don't have to pay for it if you really lock in first week.
Very good lecturer, genuinely passionate about behaviorism, well written projects and assignments. Strict but quite reasonable late work policy. Your final grade is heavily impacted by the semester-long project so don't wait to do it last-minute. If you're struggling, talk to her, she will help you figure out how to catch up!
She's an amazing professor; she makes things very easy since it's an intro class. She has a sense of humor, which definitely helps me keep awake in classes. All of the work is online and very easy to do as long as you finish it on time. She's not strict on attendance, but there are some days when she makes us participate, and it's for a grade.
