my vote for professor of the year is dr. doiron because he understands the need of students who are not majors in literature but who have to take it for their own majors. he helps you understand thiss requirement and the material and makes it easy to do the work. actually, i liked the course

I just finished my first semester at Lamar and hated all of the summer teacher exceppt this one. Jesse is wonderful in the classroom and sooooooo willing to help us even out of classes or on the phone or by email. He treats everyone nice and bends over backwards to make sure your ready to write an essay before he give you a grade.

the professor for my summer classes in English was better than the professors I usually have at Texas A&M. He worked hard with all of us in the class (and it was a small group) and he worked to make sure we all succeeded. While I do not go to Lamar regularly, for summer, I recommend Jesse Dorion as the best teacher for English.

i just started an online course with Dr. Doiron. This is not my first experience with online college work so i can say from experience that Dr. Doiron has his methodology nailed down tight. You can see the whole course already, none of that "i'm only two steps ahead of the student" attitude you get with most online profs. He looks good so far.

wow!i just saw jesse this morning and then looked at his evals -- he's better and some would say the best.

This teacher made me find appreciation in a subject where I had none. If you want a class you can be late to and walk all over the teacher, find someone else. If you want to learn more than what a text book offers, step up to the plate cause he is a smart guy. Just go to class, do what he says and its an easy A.

this is our first week in spring and i got jesse because my boyfriend said i should. after just this week i can say my boyfriend was smart to recommend jesse. he makes the class fun when there is no fun in the subject and he makes it seem like there is a reason to be in class even though i can't see the reason to be in class.

This is a great class and if you do the work you will learn. Jesse is extremely helpful, informative, and honest. However, be prepared to write at least six essays.

Jesse Dorion is one of the very best professors I have had my first semester in University. Summer classes were intense and exciting. He enjoyed teaching us and made the work clearly important to us so that we could see how Freshman Composition could benefit us in our other studies. I recommend Jesse Dorion highly as a fine teacher of English.

i just started with jessee as my lit teacher and i dont know him well but hes been a real good teacher so far in the year and i recommend him to anyone trying to switch out of the goofy teachers that lamar usually gives lit to.

some students just dont like to work outside class and learn what they need to they blame the teacher for being rude when they are ruder than the teacher jesse was great for me and most of the class except for one girl who screwed up the RWWP for herself and everyone by not following the rules

Jesse is a very sophisticated guy and he honestly cares about improving his students writing abilities. However, to the emotionally sensitive and immature Jesse can appear to be slightly rude. It an easy A take the class.

jesse's class was my absolute best worse class ever. i mean he made me work harder than i ever worked before in any class ever but i never had as much fun in a class either so take jesse for hard good fun grades in a bad class you will never want to take from anyone

His class was hard and required a lot of work but in the end I learned more in there then I have learned in any other class. He is harsh sometimes but only if you give him a reason to be.

jesse's an awesome leader in the victims rights movement and his course showed that to us because of the various speakers we were able to meet at his seminar.

Literature is one of those subjects that I would rather not have to take even though I like reading. I think Jesse is like me in this regrad. He seems like he would rather be reading it with you rather than teaching it to you, which means you have to work as hard as he does in coming up with ideas about what it is you're reading.

dr jesse made my first lit course more like a reality show than a college class because there was so much he brought into the lessons and he let us do the same so that everyone was bringing in rap songs and guitars and friends who did recitations and the whole class seemed like something to be in not to study in.

my professor was exceptionally considerate of student needs in the honors course i took. we had an amazing semester of guest speakers and hands-on projects with a trip to the federal prison to see how inmates live. eyeopening experience. educationally superior.

i had him for online courw that was in the summer and later i had him for another course so i think i can say for sure he is good proffessor that has helped me larn what I needed to learn for my degree and for getting out of lamar on time.

on-line class with dr doiron was an interesting experience because it was more interactive than i thought it would be. he worked one on one with me every day which was a shock because i thought he would only be checking my work once a week. loved it!

I took Jesse's class for 1302 and it was not difficult at all. Essays are only 500 word compared to other teachers who ask for 800 word essays and people were still complaining. Make sure to read the stories and understand them well and writing the essays will be easy. Definitely taking him for American Literature.

I took his class for both 1301 and 1302. Jesse's lecture is very interesting. My writing skill has significantly improved a lot after taking his class. He gives students opportunity to rate his teaching which is pretty cool. Definitely recommend his class.

his approach to the class is adult in that he expects students to take care of themselves - no spoonfeeding -- which means if you are adult in your approach you make an A and if you act like a little kid you make an F

There are few courses on-line that were as challenging and enjoyable as Dr. Doiron's Masterworks in British Literature. His expansive knowledge was beneficial to the discussions, not as instruction but as guidance. And his ample linkages to websites and videos made the course thoroughly entertaining. I recommend him as an excellent teacher.

I really enjoyed the class! He definitely doesn't just hand you a grade, but its not hard. He is very helpful. Although sometimes sarcastic and rude, I learned a lot from him and hope to take him for another course.

here i am at the end of the semester thinking that for an old man jesse was pretty healthy we didnt have any classes off at all and he showed up on time every day and kept the class the full time well thats not what all my other profs did this semester so i got my money worth out of the guy no joke he was ok

sometimes i did not like jesse because he was always asking me to talk in class but i got use to him doing it so i started volunteering to and then i realized that it was ok and not a bid deal and really made me more interested in the class so i guess it was good that he was always forcing me to to begin with -- great professor.

Werre coming up to the end of semester and i have a 90 which is alot more than thought it would be before last test. I like Jesse.

It is a lot of work, but if you do it and if he sees you trying your best on black board you'll do fine. You will write a lot, but the papers are only worth 5 points out of 100. You can skip class but it's 2 points off your letter grade every time you skip.

The professor I was assigned was ill, so Dr. Doiron came in to replace him. The experience was a delightful surprise in that our substitute instructor was not a philosopher himself but a poet. For the first time, I realized the importance of philosophy in art through his single lecture. He synthesized in his poetic offerings what we had studied.

My personal contact with Dr. Doiron was limited to a phone call midway in the on-line coure. That single call, however, gave me the impresion that Dr. Doiron was genuinely concerned about my success. I found this interesting because he and I had never met, yet he seemed informed of my situation and wanted to help.

I realize I have a long way to go in understanding everything about writing and composition, but Mr. Doiron really renewed by sense of security and confidence in writing. His class gave me a lot of knowledge to move forward.

Mr. Doiron was a great teacher. His class is kind of hard, but also really funny and interesting. He wrote me a letter of recommendation and helped me get a scholarship. He was great.

You know how some professors blow you off and dont seem to even remember who you are, well Professor Doiron is not at all that way. He remembers me by name -- every day -- asks me how am I and always always always corrects my papers before I turn them in for a grade.

Returning to college was scary for a middle-aged African American woman with a long line of excuses that may make a book some day. Jesse Doiron gave me the sense that maybe I could actually do that -- write a book about failure. Fancy that. Make something good out of something bad. He said he would read it if I write it.

Dr. Doiron has a good online course and keeps you informed thru out the semester of you progress.

if you take English i would say if you cant get into Jesse's English classes dont take it thats how good his class is. It' s an easy class. And I can honestly say im a way better writer then i when i started the class. Dont be late he will not let you in the class.

He offers extra credit and lots of chances to proofread your work with your class before turning anything in -- easy tests online that you can take three times before you turn anything in -- good professor

This class definitely gave me a boost in interest and appreciation for the subject. The only hard part is keeping a good schedule on discussions. The roughly 3 day period of time between each discussion due date is challenging, but they are very engaging. The essay topics make a great level of critical thinking. Would take class again if I had to.

He is the best English teacher there is. Easy to understand ,Just follow his instructions. Do not be late and give yourself time to discuss The essays and you have an A. He literally gives out As if and only if you do his work exactly as he says. I remember he Kneeled Down on his Knees so that one of the Students could do extra credit work.

Jesse is a really nice teacher. This is actually my second time taking him. I think he emphasizes more on learning then actually having students worry about making an A. He gives extra credit galore. Just make sure and participate in all the discussions, and do all the work. My grade was over a 100. Highly Recommended

open in his views and accepting of other cultures especially open to view of various religions and sexual preferences so I would say he is a modern man in approach and instruction

He was my favorite professor out of all of the ones I had. As long as you do your work and work hard, you will not fail; He wants you to succeed. Always arrive early to class and be respectful. His tests are online and you have 3 tries. He's a cool guy that is there to help you, not make your life a living hell. TAKE HIM! You won't regret it.

Only papers: 1 book report & 1 library research paper. Exam 1:make our own test. Exam 2&3 were online(word for word from the books he assigned). Most classes are of him talking, but it can be interesting. Worst thing in my opinion is having to do "Projects"(EXAMPLE but not the only option, you could come up w/ ones too) visit prison. Easy class!

To me he tries really his hardest to get everyone to work together in class so we can hlelp together. I like him alot.

Hey, Professor Doiron. I had you about 10 years ago. You failed my first paper due to there being countless comma errors. Between you and the writing center, I learned proper comma rules and ended up passing with a 95 for the year. Jesse is funny, honest, and cares about the students. He tries to make things comfy while still maintaining a certain professionalism. Please be aware that a LOT of your grade is going to come from the Online portion of the class. Definitely a cool and funny professor to have.

Jesse is an awesome professor. I had him for ENGL 1301 and ENGL 2300. He very funny and like to joke around sometime. Everything is online and you have to participate in the discussion broad; it part of the grade. He does give you extra credit and curve grade based on the class. Overall I enjoy his class and I would take his class again.

This was my first online experience so I was so totally unready for it that I almost gave up but after talking with my professor decided Id invested to much time to give up. Amazing lectures

Dr. Jesse was help to me in a time when my home life was not so good -- trouble with my boyfriend, fights and stuff. Not good for my academics. Dr. Jesse noticed and told me about on-campus counciling and help from professionals at Lamar who helped me out of a bad life style. He was very understanding thru all of this and helped me a lot.

For a new student I was really really afraid of going to a college professor and asking for some help outside of class but with Jesse I just had to email him in the blackboard and he got back the same day and set up a meeting and then we worked out my problem and it was like over and finished and my grade was ok.

My major is Women's Studies and usually it takes a very special kind of teacher to convince me that the subject in class is being presented in a legitimate manner that corresponds to the social mores and morals of enlightened individuals . Dr. Doiron's class passed that criterion easily. I highly recommend him.

Honors classes are always excellent because they have professors who are not only part of the Honors College but also from various other departments and colleges. You should expect the best from the professors in these classes.

Blackboard discussions were important to him, sometimes that was all he talked about, he would look at everybody's papers before you submitted them, and extra credit galore! drama projects were the extra credit, 10 points on your average for each individual project. would take him again for the fun of the drama projects.

Sometimes I felt like class was a presentation at a conference or on youtube -- he can talk about all kinds of things all at the same time but still make them come around to the lesson -- really amazing. Also liked how the Blackboard was organized into different sections that made whatever was important easy to find but still had a lot of extras.

Best Prof. Don't skip class, its a grade and as long as you follow the rubric you will pass with an A.

we just had a hurricane and I was worried about if I should stay or drop for the problems I might have, but Dr. Dorion was really good at telling me how to get on track and helped me. I am staying in class and I know it will be ok. he cares about the students, and its easy to understand his syllabus and instructions.

This course was a heavy load of professional-type writing that required a mature attitude toward work, independent initiative, and cooperation. Prof. Doiron made his explanations clear and delivered them professionally. Expects a great deal of work and perseverance.

If youre a decent writer take him. His essays are pass or fail and if its decent you get a 100. All he does is talk all class participation is mostly over blackboard. Only homework was 1 quiz every week and essays every other week. You have to learn the final material on your own time. Gives extra credit but will get agitated if you dont try.

He is a great teacher and makes it easy to make a good grade. His lectures are fun to listen too. Essays are very easy and he gives lots of help.

He is the best English professor. I made an A+ in his class. 6 essays total - 1 every two weeks. 15 quizzes total on blackboard. The quizzes are easy. 3 attempts to do each. Final exam is also on blackboard with 3 attempts. A LOT of easy extra credit. He also does not grade hard and blackboard discussions are important to him.

Follow exactly what he says and you will pass the class. No more, no less.

Dr. Doiron's Tech Writing course was what I expected -- technical, hard, and good.

HNRS 4364 (The Death Class) was absolutely my best course this semester. It was totally different from anything I have experienced in university. We had four professors ranging from nursing, anthropology, communication, and English. Dr. Doiron was by far the most emotional of the professors. He helped me understand my thoughts about death.

Pretty much what I expected from a technical writing course. Clear and technical. Very responsive instructor feedback for a online class. Never waited much for emails or questions.

This was a useful class for someone like me trying to get ahead at work. The course made sense from the beginning and was not that hard to follow through on as it progressed.

Quizzes are all online and you have multiple attempts. Pushes back due dates for essays if he feels like class is struggling. Very funny and nice guy. Tends to ramble on during class. Never really gives straight answer. You have 6 essays and first 5 are pass or fail so it is very easy.

Jesse is not a hard professor, people think so because of the fact that they Do Not Listen or pay attention. I was never great in English and I dreaded this class as well as the next one. All Jesse asks is for us to do the work. Pay attention, do the work. If you are struggling there are other people out there that can help.

Professional Writing was what I expected -- hard , helpful, and glad I took it. Dr. Doiron was easy to contact even by phone, which helped me a great deal early in the semester. We spent an hour going over the course. His online feedback was helpful too. Tough course if you are not self motivated.

this class was not what anyone expected -- so different from any other. We had guest speakers and a tour of the jail and some students presented their own experiences with crime -- it was different from any english class but we still read a book and wrote a paper and some students wrote poems or stories. it was the most different experience

No work during the week just discussions due on Sunday.. however he gives you extra time. Mostly just a few essays and three major test. You and your classmates should make a group message for the test. He may say sarcastic thing but that's jut his personality.. don't get offended lol. Very easy teacher. I finished with an A.

Show up to class and you won't get behind. Mr. Jesse is a solid prof and he gives good feedback. Do the weekly discussion journals on BB on time, and you should get credit. He brings in guest speakers and there are typically two major writing assignments, a course project, and three tests (including the final). A very unique class that I enjoyed

we had so much extra chance to make up wok that i made a grad in a curse I couldnt pass for three times. Great!

We lost our teacher a week before spring break, Dr Jesse came in to take over. Wow! I was scared I would loose it but he took time with me on line and in class. Passed with awesome grade and love him for it.

Dr. Dorion completelly revised my work in his discussions which made me an A in the biggest assignment library project. defiantly take him if you need a good grade in English.

Dr. Jesses' dicsussions journal was were all the work was. Do those reglaraly and you cant but pass the class.

I took Dr. Doiron's advice to get in a study group. We met online and a couple times at the library. My group made all the difference between a passing grade and a fantastic grade.

I passed easy enough so its not a hard class because im not that interested in the subject. Dr. Dioron was quick to answer anything and helped make it thru the course w/o alot of xtras or confusing.

Dr. Jesse Dorion was good at giving feedback an had clear grading criteria. He was caring in his work and messages to.

midterm test was an evaluation of me and him and the class. got a full five extra points for being honest abot myself and himself and the classs itself. really fair way to get some feedback for all of us

i had a problme with my last essay and got him to reconsider the grade for partial credit becasue i had a problem at home and couldnt get the finish essay out before the deadline. He's helped me alot with this remake.

The course is an intense overview of writing for professionals. As one would expect -- it is hard.

As long as you stay up on your discussions in class, and take more than 30 minutes to write an essay, this class is worth taking. Jesse stays on the topic as well as extensively helps you improve your writing skills. Helped me personally quite a bit in some areas I struggle in.

Go to class every class and talk alot about whatever he wants to talk about and you will defiantly get a good grade. He is weird but easy to deal with most of the class periods are discussions so you have to go to the classes to talk about the stuff he wants to cover. We made our own test so that part was easy and fun.

Great professor! I was lucky to have him my first year of college and he really helped make the experience great. I learned to take my work seriously and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He was very helpful outside of lectures and really wanted to help his students succeed. Friendly dude as long as you work hard.

Helps a lot if you ask. Be prepared for honest feedback. He can be blunt.

I don't know why I was so scared about taking this class i suppose its the title - technical writing. Dr. Jesse was exceptional good at calming me down because I was so scared the whole time. He was patient and cared about me passing a good a s I could.

My class had almost up to 20 xtra credit things to earn more points -- sweeeeeet!

If you have to take English then take Dr. Jesse because he understand s that you have to take it. Hes not so crazy as he looks.

Dr Dorion gives good online help but only if you follow the guides in the blackboard. Answers within a couple of days which is refreshing for Lamar.

1 of the better professors I've had at Lamar -- only my snd semester but still something to think about.

Doiron helped me figure out Bb because it was hard to do onlne for me at first. He allowed me to submit my work even when i screwed it up on deadlines. Cool prof.

This course was hard because of it being on line and I wasnt ready for that at all. but Jesse Doiron was pretty layed back about how we operated as long as we tried our best to get the work done on time and close to what it was aiming to do. Verry helpful with directions and reminders sent out all the time.

Liked Jesse; but its English after all.

This class was really great. I loved that we had lots of extra credit that can help you if you need it. I learned a great deal and improved my writing. Def worth taking.

its covid and he know how hard it is to get things done on time so he lets us bend the rules alot. NOt all professors have that kind of look at what is happening to us so I really, really like that aobut him.

Dr. Dorion was particulary sensitive to my needs -- I'm a mom with three at home. Super helpful when I called confused and overworked and overwhelmed. Great prof! all around.

We are nearing the final part of this 8 week class and it was really tough getting through week 6. But when I look back at where I was a month or so ago, I realize I should have take this course years ago. Dr. Doiron was extremely sensitive to my needs during the first part of the class. It took me a while to get used to online instruction.

I want to agree with my team-mates who have said that Dr. Doiron was extremely sensitive to need during this covid stuff. Not all my professors have been that way and I think Dr Doiron did try real hard to put us first. It was a hard class.

Hey this is one class you should take at LU. So many things to say about it, but the one that is most important I guess is that I got to meet two murderers. Think about that. Where else do you get to do stuff like that? Great course. Jesse was great.

We are in the last week of this short course and it feels like its been a year -- covid, hurricane, intense schedule. Dr. Dorion has been generous in his working with us the whole time Always available online and clear about what he wanted on the tests and assignemnts.

Take the course with a couple of things in mind. 1 it is English. 2 it will help if you study the book.

When we signed up for the face class he said it was up to us to decide weather to come or not to, so I opted to because I learn best when I am in classrooms. He did a fine job with that for me.

I had to take this course but english is not my favorite thing like who thinks it is. but I recommend that you definitly take DOIRON if you have to because he has like 20extra ponts you can get if you follow instructions and how to turn stuff in on time.

21 extra credits -- eeeeasy A!

If you have to take it teake JESSE. Old guy but seems OK with our BS and doesnt care much about tests. All you really need is following instructions because he doesnt take excuses for not following whatever hes already put in bb. Easy grade if you follow instructions to the tight end.

This is one of those professors that gives you simple instructions with lots of assignment checklists and study guides for tests. Follow the recipes and you get a chocolate cake just like your mother bakes.

I am at the midsemester hump and thought I would go ahead and get over the evaluation part so I could concentrate on some other coursework. Dr. D was good at getting back to me personally and really to everyone. I noticed that my questions were not ony answered quickly directly to me but Dr. D would then anonimize the answer and send to all.

I still have a couple of weeks left in this short session course but the univerisity sent out the "grade your teacher" notices so I thought I would grade my professor in a more public forum. Dr. Doiron gave good feedback in an on-line course that is important because you do not see him except on line. Clear criteria. Very helpful. Caring , too.

The thing I liked about Dr. Dioron was the grading system for the course. It was real clear in how he handed the grades and it was easy to make up the work I missed when I missed classes.

He used always to say Take care of your selves after every class. Really fun lectures about everything. Would defiantly take him again for another coure.

Jesse's class was face2face at first but he let us go online if we wanted. Easy testing system was best part with 3 tries each of 4. Novel report wasn't that bad but it was alot of work at the end. I liked him both in class and in Bb. Very layed back.

Really good online experience for the most part in a hard course like tech writing.

Dr Doiron class was clear to understand what you need to do the whole time to get a good grade e so I got it. I think he cared a lot about me getting to the place I was comfortable writing.

He was one of the best professors I had in my life. He always goes to class trying to make it joyful and made lectures fun. I enjoyed going to this class every day. There were a lot of essays but he gave us 3 weeks to complete each. Very easy class.

I took Jesse for English 1301. We had an essay due every 3 or 4 weeks, but he walks you through every one and gives great feedback to help you. He would also get on these rabbit trails while teaching and you'd think that he was off in left field, but then he'd tie it back to his lesson. He's really a great professor.

Jesse was amazing. 4 essays, and a few great extra credit assignments. Jesse had a unique way of teaching but might I say a very effective one. He really made sure your understood what your essay needs and what not to include. Great feedback and grading criteria. He often made jokes that might embarrass students but don't take it to heart.

Depending on your personality, you'll love Jesse. If you love to banter and joking around, you'll love him, but if you're sensitive... He's harmless but might pick on ya if you're asking dumb questions and such. Incredibly easy grader and gives loads of extra credit. I loved going to his class, definitely my favorite one to attend. Made me laugh

He is very sarcastic and funny. He gives a lot of extra credit so take advantage of that. His class is easy IF you try and listen to what he says. You CANNOT make up quizzes and he usually doesn't tell you what days he'll have them, but he gives you extra quizzes and drops the lowest grades.

Loved him. Would take again. Lots of extra credit, take the time to do it. If you put in the work on your papers, you will do fine. The quizzes and final is over the book we read. So take your time and understand it. Just follow instructions and do everything the way he wants and you will ace this class.

Good professor, class and work were over one book that was easy to access. The class is easy if you read the book and somewhat listen along. He can be a little self-centered and a bit silly. Makes "friendly" jabs at students/puts students on the spot, but does so equally! If you can cope with the personality, class is easy and recommended :p
