Too tough for a 200 lvl class

Be careful if your not ready for her class your on your own
You have to actually work for your grade, but the experience is well worth it.
Homework assignments suck, but she is really interesting. No tests, just papers. Be prepared to read!
to unorganized
Lots of reading, but also lots of learning. She is incredibly briliant.
She is a brilliant professor who challenges you to see the world for what it is. She assigns a lot of reading, but it is the readings that you gain so much knowledge from. Shes big on women's rights and equality. Shes fair.
She is very approachable, intelligent, and fair. Lots of reading but extremely interesting.
I was very impressed by her....lots of knowledge! Lots of assigned reading, but if you keep up & do the work..an easy A. Class discussion about the assigned reading were very interesting & fun! Real nice lady!
She was not a great political science prof, she did seem to be knowledgeable, but tied alot of novels about emotion into the curriculum.Work load is fine if you are giving me skills that I can use in the real world..not the case here!

Major intellectual, but very down to earth. Like most of her classes, LOTS of reading, 4 books in a semester and you will get to know the people at the reserve desk well. She is really cool though, super knowledgeable, very approachable.
LOTS of reading; 10 1-2 pg homeworks, take-home midterm, in-class final. Not too bad, but she was VERY unclear of what was on the final, which was scary since we covered TONS of material. OK prof though.
This is the absolute most boring and worst class at svsu. She is very unclear about her teaching styles, her tests are horrible. I had my midterm paper 8 pages long because I thought that's what she wanted (very unclear about what she wanted in the first place) and I got a C!!!
PS262 - Keep up with the readings and you will have no problem. PS225 - Easiest stats class I have ever taken.
She doesn't know what she's talking about most of the time. She doesn't know how to work her computer or equipment in the classroom. Readings are really hard and boring (at least 35 pages each week) and you have 3 books you have to read (over 200 pages each)! Don't take this class unless you need
When the class discussions occurred, she didn't guide it in anyway. Which meant anyone who felt like preaching could do so regardless of how offensive it was. She would only give "A's" to people who could say something new or informed, which was usually people who already worked in those areas.
Such an easy class. She makes it interesting by including topics normal PS classes would not teach. There is some reading and short papers but they are easy and she grades them easy. Only one quiz and the midterm and final are papers. I would highly recommend this class.
This is a fun, interesting class. No text book, just a few novels, articles and movies. You can choose what homework assignments to do. Class discussions are fun and relaxed. She has a great deal of knowledge in Political Science and keeps it interesting. I would strongly recommend this class.
As with all her classes....TONS of reading for the amount you actually apply the knowledge gained from them. Also, you'd better like hearing about animal rights and welfare. Exams in other classes unclear as well.
Someone who could actually teach stats should be teaching this class. This mega-feminist wannabe actually made me forget useful statistically information I learned in the past. Avoid. Also the book is a 70 dollar waste, you will NEVER use it.
Do Not Take This Class!!! There are other better teachers for this course. I dont care what anyone else says, she is horrible. She expects you to take just her class and focus everything on her class. Books: 3. Most of them at least 250 if not longer. Readings: 15. Most of them at least 40-50 :(
She is a horrible professor. This class has the same amount of work as 3 other classes. There is way too much reading involved and she can't teach. She forces people to talk in class when they don't want too. I would not recommend her for any class.
bad teaching style. Learned more from pbs about ps than from her classes.
She is a great teacher!! You have to put in a little work but not as bad as people make it out to be. She relates PS to everyday life. You get to choose your homework assignments and have take-home midterms. You have to give a little effort, but definetly worth it. Would highly reccommend!

Class discussion centered around readings (novels, papers, movies, or excerpts from other books/textbooks) which takes up half the class and a lecture for the last half. She lays the information out right in front of you and relates PS to things in the typical life of a person.
I am astonished at the negative comment about this professor. This is definitely one of the most interesting classes I have taken at the university. She applies political science to our everyday lives. Much more interesting than lecture/test format. If you are a slacker stay away from the class.
There was a lot of sitting around wasting time while others tried to catch up. She was kind of whiny too and was fairly unorganized. But as far as stats go it wasnt really hard.
A lot of reading for EVERY class period. If you are conservative, STAY AWAY. If you are liberal, you will probably love her. Very unfair to both sides of issues!
Class wasn't too boring, and very helpful for PS or education majors, LOTS of readings that were pretty dry, and TONS of in class notes, but you will learn a lot. Participation helps, and you do lots of group activities also.
She's a pretty good professor. Depending on the class and the semester you take it in, you'll either have a lot of reading to do, or a lot of notes to take. She is very outgoing but you must be serious about the class. Shows some questionable movies.
Watered down grad school style of teaching. Lots of reading but the readings are explained through lecture. Could be considered hard if you are used to doing nothing and listening to a teacher ramble on.
A great prof who is willing to answer any and all questions and is always wanting all of the students to succeed and understand. Obviously very knowledgable about the subject matter. Makes class interesting, with relatively little work. While in this course, I had absolutely no homework of any kind... not even reading.
LOTS of reading... felt overwelmed taking 2 of her classes in 1 semester. The novels were actually not bad... but the articles were LONG and boring. Really nice, very approachable and helpful. Definately would recommend her but prepare to WORK.
Hard class with lots of reading, but she makes it interesting. LOTS of note-taking. Tests wern't too hard, but the participation factor ensured I'd get a B, not an A....
I was scared to take Stats, but this class is a piece of cake. Study your notes for the tests and you'll be fine. Lots of writing involved, not difficult at all. Great professor.
This class is a walk in the park. No homework, it's all done in class, except for one survey. Take good notes and study for the test. Almost no math involved, the computer does it all for you. Lots of printing and writing though. Would recommend to anyone.
This class was tough. 2 exams- One is 20% of grade and the other is 35% of your final grade. The rest of your grade comes from class participation and attendence. There were 3 required novels (yes you do read them) and weekly chapters you print from blackboard. A TON of reading. Be prepared to real A LOT. For the exams study study study :0)
she is a class A example of a rule utilitarian who has no room in her schema of students for those of us who do want to succeed. she was a barrier in the process, not an encouraging, supportive mentor
Wow! What do the books does she assign have anything to do with the class? Crabgrass Frontier? Get over it Boston U. Her classes are pathetic.
I was worried about taking this class because of the math involved but it was a walk in the park. The best math type class I have ever taken at SVSU
If you are a liberal man-hating feminist, this is the class for you. Every discussion turned into a "women are always oppressed by men" pity party. She assigns far too much reading, and her reviews are a joke with simply "know everything." For statistics, go for it - but for anything else that is semi-subjective, stay away.
Gender in politics...if you are a man and want to keep your private parts avoid this lady. Do not take the class. She does not review or respect the opinions of students. She claims to have knowledge on everything and she can't back up anything if you argue a point. Terrible professor.
I took her during undergrad for Gender and Politics, and I hated the class, and frankly really disliked her. Now that I'm in Grad School I'm very thankful for taking her class. She is the one professor that prepares you for a higher education at SVSU.
The class itself is easy. As long as you don't mind wasting time learning how to work one computer program specific to SVSU. The subject matter and the assignments are boring. She is also uninteresting and a hard professor to relate to. She seems to think we all took this class because we are interested in it. Not because it's an easy CI course.
Dr. Donahue is a great teacher. She explains the material very well and seems to mix the boring reading in with more interesting reading to make sure we have the facts and aren't too bored. I think she and her husband are great assets to SVSU's poli sci department!
Anyone who hates her probably failed the class. She's a good prof, doesn't grade hard, reading is the only thing expected for out of class work (mid term&final are take home pprs). interesting class. Covers ALL aspects of gender issues (including men, whom she doesn't hate). Overall, it was a good class. I would take her again
teache material well, the class should really be called women in politics... I believe we spent two days all semester on men's issues. She is nice most of the time, but is moody, would hate to be on her bad side. I mentioned to the person next to me that I hadnt read the book and she singled me out in class making me sit alone during group projct
A fairly easy class. Show up prepared, read what your supposed to and turn things in on time and you'll have zero problems.
Great poly sci professor!
I came into this class not knowing a thing about stats and so far, she has made it easy for me and other students to understand the basics to stats. I am very glad to have her as a professor for my last numerical studies...it's just not my thing.
One of the best profs. i've had at svsu. she teaches kind of slow but there no way you wouldn't understand the material. willing to help. tells you exactly whats going to be on the tests. never gives homework most everything is in class assignments. definitely recommend her
AMAZING. I've honestly never had an easier class even in high school! Easy, fun, nice, just can't say enough! Recommendeddddd!
Very opinionated. Gives daily quizzes on minutiae of readings, but easy to guess. All exams are T/F. Focuses more on political theories rather than currently instituted systems. Last third of class spent on boring statistics- no math, but heavy on computers which often fail to work. Papers are a piece of cake. Easy credit.
Donahue is one of the most clueless professors I've ever had. She consistently wrote all her questions in tiny writing on the room whiteboards, and no one in the class could ever really read it. Her quizzes are all T/F, and they ask about minutiae from what are usually 100 pages of reading. If you struggle with math at all, avoid her!
Awful teacher, ridiculously opinionated, to the point where if your facts don't back up her opinions, they aren't facts. Animals, Habitats, and Politics is her main career focus, and she cares a lot about it, but if you don't, or you look at the activists and laws objectively *not from a hyper-liberal aminal loving view* avoid her for this one.
Have literally grown up with politics and have spent a long portion of college studying and earning exemplary grades. Somehow the lowest grade I ever received in a PS class was from the most remedial level class. Donahue is arrogant, unorganized, and disrespectful. She does the University a disservice by continuing to serve as an instructor.
i'm a gender studies minor and i still hated this class. her powerpoints have so many spelling/grammatical errors it's honestly distracting. half the assigned books are irrelevant. one paper topic was simply silly and illogical, the other was ridiculously hard. i wanted to lover her/ the class, but ended up hating both.
Very big on being vocal in the class discussions, to an extreme point.
Terrible teacher. Don't use the book, very opinionated and power hungry. Don't show you're frustrated if she doesn't answer a question (because she won't answer it!) or else you'll get in trouble. Also has an unreasonable attendance policy... essentially can't be late 3 times, but you can miss 2 whole classes.
TOOK HER MORE THAN ONCE...AMAZING. ATTEND CLASS READ THE BOOKS AND TAKE NOTES YOU WILL SUCCEED IN THE CLASS! NOT AN EASY PROF. BUT VERY EDUCATIONAL IF YOU WANT TO LEARN ABOUT POLITICAL SCIENCE. VERY OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS AND A GREAT ROLE MODEL FOR FUTURE TEACHERS. DON'T GRADUATE WITHOUT TAKING A COURSE TAUGHT BY HER
She was not a good professor, very rude and was disrespectful. Walked around with a very rude look on her face and treated you like you were stupid when you asked questions. Would not recommend her to anyone!
Easy math class. Gives you your math credit instead of taking Math 123. Easy until the end. Lot of writing because of the C.I but easy writing.
This is a very difficult class and attendance is mandatory or you will be completely lost on the assignments. This instuctor gives a lot of work and the assignments are confusing but always read the power points and you should be fine. I passed with an A but I never missed a class and struggled somewhat because the work load is overwhelming.
This class is not at all hard if you show up. Jesse literally explains things crystal clear, but you will not get it if you don't show up. She almost always let us out a little early as well. Take her if you can, do the in class assignments, show up, and you will do great.
I took this class in the spring. Dr. Donahue explains everything very clear. Follow the modules each week and follow her essay guidelines. There's a homework assignment every week and 3 tests that are open note / book. Overall an interesting class. I would recommend her for other classes.
I took a gender in communication class and loved it, so when taking a gender class as an elective for my second major was an option, it was a no brainer. Until I was actually in the class. 6 books to read all semester with two 8 page papers due and two exams that have nothing to do with what she says to study. Love the subject, hate the class.
Jesse is an amazing professor. I took her for three classes and learned a lot from her. If you are willing to read, go to class, pay attention, and learn, her class is the right fit for you.
Awesome professor all around. Always willing to help. She goes over a practice test before the real one. Gives you everything you need to get an A in the class. The quizzes are True or False. If you do the readings you'll be fine. I would strongly recommend taking this professor.
Dr. Donahue is an amazing professor. You can tell she truly cares for her students and their success. The class itself may be a little tough BUT she explains everything and will help you with whatever you need. Quizzes are easy, just make sure to read. Test are not hard as long as you study. Probably my favorite professor I have ever had.
Horrible online professor. Her feedback was very snippy and not helpful, and I didn't feel like I learned anything. Though she writes out how to do things, I still felt it was unclear, and she made me feel like I was burdening her when I asked her questions. If you take this class, Do Not take it online it was horrible.
Professor Donahue's online class was difficult. You need to work for your grade and pay close attention to everything. She also is difficult to talk to in my opinion, and seems like a "my way or the highway" professor. The tests had difficult worded questions where you could argue that multiple answers were right but she won't let you argue it.
So much reading for a short 7 week online class!! She also picks apart your paper to mean something different then what you meant by it, and will get cought up one one sentince and say you did not understand the assaigment, even though the paper clealy stats the assagment !! Would not take again Hardest work for a B
Hands down, Dr. Donahue was the best professor that I have had at SVSU. She taught tough material in a way that everyone was able to understand. After teaching us how to do the assignment, she would do an example with us, to make sure we really understood what we just learned. Gives a review before the exam, very helpful professor
This professor is one that a suggest to stay clear of. She wasn't helpful to me when I went to her to ask questions, shes very rude, she acts as if she doesn't want to help you, and she gives a crap load of reading in such a small time span. She is not understanding and is pretty difficult to talk with. Find a different professor to take!!!!!!!!!!!
Horrible professor. I had such a difficult time in her class. It was alot especially the load of reading was overwhelming. I will never take again, I went to office hours and she didn't help me at all. It was a horrible semester.
I took this class for my Stats credit for nursing. Honestly and easy A class if you show up. There was no outside work to be done, no homework, no real studying. The only studying you had to do was read 3/4 chapters for the 3/4 quizzes in the whole semester. Easy exam and extra credit at the end. Would highly recommend for the stats credit, Easy A!
awful awful awful
Worst class ever
A lot of reading and lecture notes. But pay attention in class, take notes over discussion questions and lectures, ask questions when you miss something and you'll do great on the tests. Sometimes you watch documentaries in class which you could watch at home but they're interesting. She is hard to talk to if you're struggling tho and kinda harsh.
Most of the books assigned are not dull reads, which is the only positive. Be prepared to read an entire book in a week. The content in some books should have a trigger warning. As far as the papers go, good luck. If you do not have her argument, you're wrong. And she won't email you back when you ask for a reason why you're wrong.
She's rude. She claims she tells things to students when the entire class knows she hasn't. Her course isn't extremely hard but she makes it hard to bear. I feel she is very unprofessional and unreasonable at times. Many times she has snapped at students and is often unclear about what she wants for particular assignments.
She is smart but acts like you should already know everything just because she does. Doesn't explain things clearly and acts annoyed when you have questions. The class was easy and I did well, but it was mostly because I did the work on my own. Book was basically pointless. tests insanely easy if you study. lectures were monotone
Donahue is such a sweetheart. I never took a statistics class, and even though I didn't receive the best grade she was very understanding and is wiling to help any student who needs it. Beware her tests are very hard an everything is done on a computer and attend every class to get good notes and questions answered.
I would strongly recommend avoiding this professor if you can. She consistently was late for classes and usually the first person to leave the room. I would describe her as apathetic, condescending, overly strict, inflexible, and passive-aggressive towards students in the class. Lectures were dry. It really just seemed like she didn't care...
Didn't explain anything and expected you to find everything yourself
The class content was very interesting. She uses evidence to back up her arguments. Many students complain that if you don't have her argument you are marked down, but that's probably because they're wrong. The class doesn't come with a trigger warning, but it should. Very triggering. She is passionate and stern. She expects a lot of her students.
The class topic is in her field and you can tell. She is so knowledgeable and can contribute a lot. She is very serious about the content in it, it may come off apathetic sometimes, but I think it's because of the seriousness of the topic. She has high expectations but students can definitely meet them. She is a strong professor and great intellect
Dr. Donahue was an amazing professor, but makes you work for your grade! There's lots of reading and has daily quizzes on the readings. Three papers in the class, but nothing too difficult if you follow the *detailed* directions. Exams are true/false, but as long as you study, you'll be fine!
SHES AWFUL, RUDE, AND A KNOW IT ALL. You can tell she has been presenting the same powerpoint for 10 years, she is not approachable, personable, and her personality is awful. I would never ever recommend her. She is not friendly, not helpful, and acts put out if you challenge her in any way. She definitely doesn't represent SVSU well at all.
I feel like all the bad ratings are from students who just didn't put in effort. I thought she was a solid prof. The pre-recorded lectures were pretty old, but they got the job done. She answered all of my emails within 24 hours and basically told us everything that would be on the exams. Once you get the hang of the stats software it's a breeze.
Took this class online over the summer. Graded on 6 assignments. Two are quizzes worth 15% of your grade, two are short essays worth 20% of your grade. Two are long essays worth 65% of your grade. She is very rude and does not respond to emails unless they are in a specific format. Otherwise, they are returned to you without a response.
This was by far the worst online class I have taken. We were given two biographies to read and then write papers. She is VERY particular about the papers. The way she corresponds with students is condescending and rude. If she doesn't like the way you email her, she will send it back without a response.
Once we got into the 2nd half, she began pushing her political agenda extremely hard. The final paper is all about how Conservatives don't care about or fight for minorities and how Liberals do everything better. If you vocally disagree with any of her ideologies you will not receive a good grade. Her quizzes are even more blatantly agenda pushing.
Dr. Donahue does not care about her students. I asked her for help on a paper, to which she said "If you read the book you would understand". I ended up failing the paper along with 5+ other students. She told another student in the class that if you don't understand the rubric, you're dumb, and that she doesn't have time to deal with undergrads.
Doesn't care about students and absolutely clueless when it comes to using a computer. She can't even figure out how to publish assignments before their due date. Be prepared to write a 2-page essay every day, with an unclear topic about a 200-page chapter, in a book you can't read clearly because she poorly scanned it. Absolutely horrible.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS PROFESSOR! Does not care at all about her students. If you email her prepare to get a snooty remark. Assigns six books to read which aren't bad but it is kinda hard to read a book within a week.
90% is in class work. Once you get the SPSS software you are solid. She gives model examples of what you are supposed to be doing and lectures on the side to deeper understand. Sometimes she made me feel soooo dumb which looking back at it now makes sense. She will refer you to the videos she has filmed instead of answering the question.
Professor Donahue was always super clear on what was expected for assignments and tests. I took her class mainly online because of the pandemic, but she always would answer my emails in a timely manner. I did find that she could be a little passive aggressive sometimes. Overall she was a good professor and easy to understand.
I took the GS 100 class but it was not available as an option. I work hard in my classes and often befriend my professors, but Prof. Donahue not only belittled me in emails but also blamed the online students for her own technical difficulties that we couldn't possibly control. Bad communicator. Unprofessional. Rude. I regret taking this class.
Donahue is a solid professor once you figure her out, what you see is what you get. She gives clear grading criteria and examples, follow them to a T and you'll be okay. Do not deviate from the example outlines, she likes clear cut (bland) writing. Some people think she's cold or crass, she isn't. She is more than willing to help you if you ask.
If you dont come to class its almost impossible to do well. The content is intimidating at first but coming to class and asking questions is the key to passing. The prof is very good with feedback.
I absolutely loved her! If you took stats in high school, this is nothing like it. You use a data system that you just plug stuff in and you don't need to do any math. It is confusing in the beginning but gets easier. Her lectures were super helpful and she had samples for almost all of her assignments. Class was hybrid but you could chose. 10/10!
She does not like to take the extra time out of her day to help students. She only grades on tests and quizzes. Lots of reading and on the quizzes and tests she picks the smallest detailed things from the chapters. Does not give extra help. I would not take this teacher again she doesn't care about her students grades or well being.
She is very rude and makes sure her students are miserable, then blames them for not understanding the material. Her demeaner is in the sense of she is better than you and she will let you know that. Do not take this class with her if you can help it.
She is extremely condescending and rude when you ask a question, or do not understand the material. She was the reason I had to leave SVSU for a year and figure out if I wanted to return. Do not take this woman's class if you can avoid it.
This class was suffocating and the professor was super rude. She makes you feel like you can't even ask her a question as she gets very sarcastic and unapproachable. I asked her for help and she literally told me "If you don't know this by now then you might as well drop the class". I was taken aback but I did because I could not take it any more.
Dr Donahue is extremely kind and cares about her students. She grades her writing assignments fairly and if she does mark you down she makes sure you understand why. Her quizzes are easy and typically only two questions. she also makes sure to provide a few extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Professor Donahue is a professional and really cares about the subject matter she teaches. She is a bit intense but overall a really nice and accommodating professor. If you attend class and focus on the material you should have no problems completing assignment's, quizzes and tests.
This woman is a doctor yet will still make MANY major grammatical mistakes in the test questions to the point that it throws many students off. However, despite the incoherent sentences that make up the tests she does give good feedback on the writing assignments but the prompts she gives are sort of vague and you really have to think about it.
Horrible. Does not care to help students, does not like to answer any questions students may have, and always has snooty answers. We are required to read up to 16 chapters out of the books she assigns every monday-wednesday and we take a quiz every day before class about the chapter. Midterm? papers due? still have readings and quizzes due.
Text provided. Heavy lecture. Interesting if you wanted to take the class. Understanding.
Class was actually PS331. Two papers which she heavy grades and is very picky with. Don't ask questions because she's very condescending. Sat in an hour and a half class for her to click through slides and play youtube videos. There will be lots of reading which you'll have 4 pt quizzes on. Two exams which are really easy roughly 50 points.
A total of 5 things make up your grade - 80% is split between a midterm and final. It is virtually impossible to fail if you do a *little* bit of work to prep, and there are 5 opportunities for extra credit. That could give you an extra 15% to the grade book for cushion.
Dr. Donahue was a great professor. Her class was very easy, despite having a reading quiz every class. The exams are extremely common sense, the only drawback is your overall grade also has attendance. If you only care about credit and GPA, this is the ideal class. You may not learn a lot, however.
You will not learn in this class. She runs through slides with so many grammar/spelling mistakes, and she plays YouTube videos without full screen. She is technologically illiterate, and in some ways, illiterate. Do not bother correcting her on a simple factual mistake - she is condescending and never admits she's wrong. Quizzes/tests are all MC.
Very nice lady, she puts good effort into feedback and always give you opportunites to earn more points. A lot of reading on the weekends, a lot of quizzes. She also disregards many feelings, never admits shes wrong, if you answer wrong she will have an atitude about it
I am not a math person, however I enjoyed the schedule for this hybrid class. We did the lectures and notes for "homework" then did the actual assignments in class with her. It helped me out a lot because if I had any questions on the homework I could ask in class and do well on the assignments.
Donahue can be intense, but if you engage with her teaching style, the class is doable. Use Unstuck AI and the provided resources to ace the assignments.
Be prepared by like week three to be writing essays every other day based on the in-class readings. Quizzes every other day as well that go with the in-class reading. Lecture slides are messy, Canvas page even messier and difficult to navigate. She's very nice, and gives good feedback on the writing, and otherwise is decently fair.
