At the beginning of the semester Jesse would write problems on the board then have student volunteers solve them at the end of class. By the end of the semester the problems were left unsolved and he failed to provide some necessary information to solve equations. If not for taking Calc BC in high school, this class would have been a nightmare.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Professor means well but is too intelligent to be teaching an introductory calculus class. Entire grade is pretty much based off of 3 tests which are shots in the dark. Even if you attend office hours and ask relevant questions, it's difficult to get clarification/help. It ruined my GPA.

He is a great teacher and really wants to help, but he never gives "free answers" and often answers your questions with a question. Your grade is determined by TWO midterms, a final and the SIX weekly homework. Although I ended up with an A in the class, I also had no free time during the semester because I was trying to learn calculus. HARD CLASS!

Worst professor ever. Not helpful at all;if you have to take calculus with him, reconsider your schedule. He puts you on the spot in class, drills you about the new material and never directly answers your questions. Office hours are worthless and during exams you will be uncomfortably hovered over by the t.a.'s or the extra proctors he requests.

Jesse is by far one of the worst teachers i have ever had. He doesn't ever teach or answer anyone's questions directly, instead he responds with another question. We basically go to class to get quizzed on the material that we spend so much time at home learning. His class is much harder than it is supposed to be. The TA was very helpful though.

Takes some getting used to, but is such a meme! Greets us the same way every day in class, wears the same outfit, and carries himself as if he's on a higher dimension. He gives us sage advice, making laminated cards with how to succeed and how to fail. Do lots of practice problems from the textbook! He cares more about concepts than computations.

He has a flipped classroom teaching style, but does NOT implement it effectively. He fails to consider that everyone has a different way of learning, and refuses to work out any example problems even after a worksheet is due. He thinks students just want answers, but that's not it. We don't understand the concept in the first place. Do not take.

Before the first test, people asked if the test was quest based. As a freshman, I had no clue what that meant until I realized people only wanted to know if they could expect the same problems with different numbers. The textbook is not helpful, rather come to class prepared with questions. That is where the learning occurs in this class.

This man just flat out doesn't teach. He does a flipped classroom, which is frustrating already, but then during lecture he doesn't explain anything fully at all! If you ask him a question he'll just vaguely respond. The homework isn't bad but some tough questions don't even have explanations after the assignment is due! Exams are very tough, too

You must understand what each discussion and lecture's concept is. Not memorization. That should guarantee good grades on his short multiple choice tests. Couple q's from quizzes. His goal is that by struggling, you have an understanding greater than that of him directly telling you and ability to solve problems that you haven't seen before.

Flipped classroom. Three test in total which are difficult because they are concept heavy. He does allow for test corrections. Classwork is completion for the most part but he doesn't give answers for them. Homework is annoying. He is not very responsive to his students. His explanations are very poor. Sadly, worst professor ive taken..

Jesse is a cool person when he's not teaching. Advice to those who do have to take him would be to make sure you can understand the abstract concepts very well because the HW questions are nothing compared to his lecture/discussion questions and the exams. Exams mean the most percentage-wise but he does let us do test corrections for extra points.

Jesse's class if hard, but Jesse is accessible by email and during office hours to answer any and questions. He cares for his students and wants them to succeed BUT he is also a firm believer in "the struggle." He believes his students learn better by failing than by giving them answers. His goal is to teach you how to THINK

Flipped classroom. Horrible teacher for calculus. His exams are multiple choice and does give half the points back on the test if you do corrections. Very hard exam compared to a very weak textbook. I was spending too many hours on this class even though I am not a maths major.

He was a really poor teacher. I have not encountered a class where the professor does not teach the methods of how to solve problems in class. Very heavy on theory and almost no method. I legitimately had to teach everything to myself, and something like multivariable calculus is just not something a person can teach themselves.

I think I would have been able to get an A if I had just done more practice problems. Explain concepts to your peers! Sit at the front to get the full Jesse experience. Take advantage of office hours! His class is harder in that it's flipped classroom and conceptual and less just straight up computation, but it's not impossible. You got this.

HORRIBLE TEACHER! Does not give answers to any in class assignments or any homework. Exams are hard since you have no review or practice problems. He does a lot of concept questions. Does not lecture! He puts students into groups each class period then you work on class assignment with other students. Never get any of the solutions. PROOFS ARE EASY

Simply, the guy doesn't teach discrete math. Expect to read the textbook for everything, and even then the exam problems aren't anything like the textbook (this is worsened by the fact he never posts any sample exams, questions, or homework solutions). He gives multiple choice exams for discrete math, a proof based class... enough said

The class was fine, but don't think I learned much more here than I did in AP stats (SDS 321 and M378K with other profs are much better). Also the class isn't exceptionally hard, it's just Jesse doesn't teach so you're completely unprepared for the tests. Midterm average was a 70%, final was a 62%, and he doesn't "curve" (think he did +3% overall)
