If you do the readings and pay attention to the lectures, it is pretty easy to get at least a B+ in the class. He only takes attendance the first two weeks and is very helpful if you have any questions. Also, he allows you an extra day or two on papers if you have a legitimate excuse.
He is one of the most helpful teachers i have had. He understands that we are bombarded with work so he would give you a few more days to work on papers if you have a legitimate excuse. The only thing that he expects from you is to have original work, he has zero tolerance for plagiarism.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! One of the nicest, most understanding professors who is very easy to talk to and passionate about the subject. As long as you show you read the text and make an effort to analyze a little bit then you will get an A for sure.
Great professor! Everything is covered in class, so no need to read the source material. Discussions are thought-provoking and in-depth. He makes sure everyone understands. He also doesn't mind being interrupted with questions, and understands his job is to teach, not to lecture. Wasn't really looking forward to the class, but I ended up liking it!
Jesse is a great professor and overall a genuine man. He is a very simple grader and is very flexible when it comes to grades. There were 4 4page papers a couple quizzes a midterm and a final but if you pay attention in class its an easy A. I didn't even do half of the readings and still did fairly well. Participate but no lying
Great person, is very understanding. Aside from that he's an easy grader. Four 4-page papers (first 2 pages are summaries!), midterm, and final. Great class. You learn, low-stress class, just good in general.
Excellent instructor. The class is evenly split between lecture and discussion. Dr. Perillo creates a great environment for sharing ideas.
Wonderful teacher. Wonderful Class. Never a dull moment. Take him. You will not regret it.
Amazing teacher!! He is so nice and very helpful if you ask for help. There is 4 papers that are 4 pages long on your choice of readings. Mid-term is easy and he gives you a good review, and the final is a essay which he gives you the questions before hand. You actually learn a lot from him. Easy class!
Jesse is hands down the best prof. I've had at DePaul. His lectures are interesting and he is an understanding grader. He's a great guy and really cares about his students. I highly recommend taking him for any class he offers.
He's a great professor. Inspired me greatly. Very easy class must take!
Jesse is truly one of the nicest professors I've had at DePaul. He is good at explaining the material, and is understanding when it comes to deadlines and his students' other work. There are 3 five-page papers, a midterm, and a final. He makes the subject very interesting/relevant as well.
'm one of those people who never understood philosophy, but Prof. Perillo made it so interesting and understandable. I learned so much from him. He's the sweetest professor I ever had. He's so nice and funny :) I never got tired of listening to him. If you do bad in his class, it's your own fault. He tries to help everyone. Take him! :)
Very nice guy. Be prepared for a LOT of reading. Do the readings and take notes in class to prepare for exams. Participate every once in a while and you will get full credit. Very easy grader on papers and exams. If you need an extension, just ask and you will probably get it. Again, there is a lot of reading.
Amazing instructor, I will definitely recommend to take him. He brings quality, excellence and he genuinely cares about the subject and his students.
Dr. Perillo is by far the best professor I have had at DePaul. He is so respectful, really cares about his students and wants to help them to the best of his ability. The material is very interesting and he does a great job of explaining all the readings through his lectures. Take this class! You won't regret it!
Prof. Perillo is a really kind professor who genuinely cares for all of his students. He wants you to love the course just as much as he does. There is A LOT of reading, but if you read then all of the papers and quizzes will be a breeze. Lectures are long and the subject matter gets old after a while, but Perillo is a great guy!
Amazing lectures and hilarious. He is an easy grader and everything on the midterm and final he gives you in lectures. The papers and quizzes are easy as long as you read and get the jist of everything.
He was a really cool professor who was very helpful. The papers were short and the readings were interesting. Definitely would take again
Jesse is the sweetest person I have ever met. His course work is a little muchlots of reading, 3 quizzes (easy), 3 "short papers" they aren't short they are 6 pages, a midterm, and final. He is very understanding if you're having trouble or are going through something. I wish I could take more of his classes. There is no one like him.
Amazing professor. If given the opportunity take. Every lecture is interesting and he shows no bias.
He shows no bias in his lectures, which is great. I found the subject dreadfully boring and his voice wasn't helpful. 3 6pg papers, 3 pop quizzes, & he tells you what's on the midtermfinal. Do the reading so you don't get left behind and you'll do fine!
Class requires effort but don't let that scare you away! He is honestly one of the genuinely nicest people I have ever met and clearly cares about his students. 3 6page essays midterm final and few quizzes, lots of readings, but what really matters is the participation. The class is almost entirely lecture and is so interesting and he's amazing!
Dr. Perillo really wants to see students be successful in his course. His lectures are informative and never boring. He engages the class in discussion however participation for the most part is optional and if you are too shy to speak in class you can earn your participation grade by posting in online discussion boards or sending him emails.
His lectures are entertaining and he has great personality. Participation, 3 quizzes, 3 6-page papers, midterm, cumulative final. Final review guide is made up of 10 essay questions. Practice them two weeks in advance. Actual final is 3 of those 10 questions, you only pick 2 in which you write on. Lots of reading, but good moderation. Would retake.
I LOVED Dr. Perillo. He really is a great human being. This was the type of class that was a lot of work, but it was very rewarding work. Because of this class, I was able to start to form my own personal ethics about the workplace and was also able to start building a language to speak about them. I would definitely take his class again!
Professor Perillo made ethics tolerable. For such a dry subject, he really did his best. There are a few pop quizzes but they are open ended so just try to know the main concepts of the reading. The papers are standard and the midterm and final I found to be relatively easy. He tries to connect and engage with his students.
Professor Perillo is one of the best at DePaul. Ethics is boring and he makes it interesting. You need to read and do a lot of work to pass. Few pop quizzes, 3 papers, and midterm/final. Pay attention and you should have no problem passing.
Amazing teacher. Gives super helpful constructive feedback on papers before grading them (if you email him in advance). Super nice, very polite, and VERY helpful. Lectures are interesting b/c he uses personal funny examples to drive the point home. Returns emails quickly, and is always willing to help you. Truly wants to see you succeed. Take him!
Overall great guy. He cracks a couple jokes here and there. His lectures are interesting as well as boring. Provides leeway if you email. He's awful at communication and pretty unorganized. Make sure you're aware of upcoming tests, projects, and papers cause he won't really give you a heads up.
Nice guy. Tough grader when it comes to papers. LOTS of reading! There are 3 pop quizzes throughout the quarter however it's annoying because he says attendance isn't really mandatory but if you miss a quiz (aka you choose the wrong day to skip) you can't make it up and it's just a 0/100. Pretty lenient otherwise if you talk to him before hand.
He's a nice guy. There was A LOT of reading throughout the course I could not keep up with. 3 pop up quizzes, 3 papers, Mid-term multiple-choice and short response. Final is HORRIBLE, he gives you 10 questions to study for of which only chooses 3 for the exam and you choose 2 to answer. Probably have to retake the class, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Perillo is great, hes caring and wants his students to succeed. He gives every opportunity for his students to get full credit. If you send him your papers 48 hrs in advance he will give you feedback. If you send him your completed study guide 48 hrs in advance hell give you feedback. If you dont want to talkin class for points, post online. A++
He is a good guy but the class is pretty boring. Take notes and you will pass. He gives out 3 pop quizzes on the readings. Only problem is there is a lot too read. He is a pretty easier grader and will give you points just for attempting. Mid term is multiple choice and short answer. Final is 2 essay questions. HIS GRADING RUBRIK SUCKS THO 80C+
Professor Perillo is amazing. It was a pleasant class to be in and his lectures flow pretty well. There is a lot of reading involved and three pop quizzes based on the readings. He is an easy grader, and will give you feedback on papers before submission. Overall good class and you'll end up learning stuff.
Good professor who takes the time to explain the material. There is soooo much reading. 3 Pop quizzes and 3 long papers. Final and Midterm were kind of hard. If you study you will be fine.
A great professor, definitely would take again. Work load is heavy, but the syllabus lays it all out and he grades very easily. As long as you understand the core concepts (paying attention to lectures & readings) you'll get at least a B. Will review work before it's due (including exam prep!) & even boost your grade through office hour meetings.
Easily one of my favorite classes I've taken at DePaul. I had a ten year gap in my academic career and had serious concerns walking into the class, I went to office hours and he told me I had an awesome perspective and I should speak more in class, not my forte, but he pulled it out of me until it was habitual. Lots of reading but it's worth it.
Overall great teacher!
Overall decent teacher. The readings for the class were difficult to keep up with at times while juggling the papers and work for other classes, but he grades easily on the papers. The class was not what I was expecting and I don't think I really got much out of it. Biggest tip is to keep track of all the different authors and their viewpoints.
Overall great professor! He does give a lot of readings but makes it very clear that if you are struggling and just talk to him he can help you out. He really wants to make sure his students succeed.
He is very enthusiastic and makes his class interesting, but there is a lot of work. Three papers, pop quizzes, and lots of reading. If you are looking for a blow-off class, don't take him. If you have a few easier classes on your plate, consider taking him. I did not mind coming to his class at 8:30 AM every day.
Jesse is one of the best professors I have had at depaul. I went into this class thinking I would hate it because it was philosophy/religion. I'm not going to lie, there is a lot of reading and some pop quizzes, but he was so respectful and charismatic that I came to enjoy going to lectures. 10/10 would recommend.
Somewhat easy class. Lot of reading but most of the time I didn't read. 3 pop-quizzes. 3 papers. Midterm and Final which he gives the actual questions before hand. There participation points but which I barely did but still got 87/100. Very easy grader and wants you to pass. Just show up, somewhat pay attention and do the papers. You will pass.
Perillo is great. He clearly cares for his students. As long as you show up to class and do the readings this class shouldn't be to difficult. Just be ready to do plenty of reading and participating either in class or online in discussion boards.
He clearly cares about his students and wants everyone to pass his class. There are multiple lengthy assignments to read for class that may be quizzed on. Three 6 page essays and a midterm and final along with the readings hard to keep up with. It is a lot of work and if you don't like a lot of reading and writing I would not recommend.
He is probably one of the best Professors at DePaul. His class is not easy but its not hard if you pay attention and read. There is a lot of reading so be prepared for that but if you ever need an extension on anything he will give it to you. He is also easy to reach and understands if you need to miss class. Definitely take him to fulfill Rel cred
This class is definitely time consuming and consists of lots of reading, but I would 100% take it again. Prof Perillo really cares about his students and is always open to discuss readings and help your grade in any way. If you like to read and write, take this class. Those two aren't my favorite things and I still enjoyed the class.
Lots to read, but expected when taking an ethics class. Honestly a wonderful person who really cares about his students and tells funny stories. Was more than happy to meet with me outside of class to discuss my papers before I turned them in.
Do not take this professor. He is a hard grader and has a weird grading scale. His "short papers" are 6 pages long. There is a bunch of readings and the quizzes are hard because the readings are long. You will spend more time on this class than any other class you have if you are not this major.
Those saying it's a hard class or unfair grading - did you try to read, watch lectures, and put in some freaking effort? The professor is very accessible outside of class and more than willing to explain the material or give a reasonable extension. This is a philosophy class - you SHOULD expect a lot of readings, for God's sake. Enjoyed the class!
The class is involves heavy amounts of readings that are required to do well in the quizzes, papers, and finals. Instructor provides them so no need to purchase an expensive book. Take notes from the readings and dont leave material to the last minute. Time management is important if your taking other complicated classes and working full time.
Worst professor ever. Literally trys to make you suffer in a Gen Ed, which I could never understand why. A bunch of quizzes with "fill in the blanks". Questions are not on Quizlet. Also, tests are nothing like study guides.
Dr. Perillo is one of the few professors that care about his students understanding the material and being able to understand it in their own sense. It is a decent amount of work but with the time he gives you it is very doable. I would take his class again if given the chance and highly recommend him as a professor and the class overall. 5/5
Probably my favorite professor so far at DePaul. Super caring, soft-spoken, and insightful guy who takes a crazy amount of pride in his work. The only reason why I don't rate a 5 is simply because, as the other reviews suggest, his class is very reading/essay heavy. Skimming works very well and understanding the concepts will get you through it.
I liked the lectures and class itself, but I felt that Dr Perillo was too tough of a grader and that he focuses too much on what opinions can be right and wrong, etc. Except for the weird tough grading, the class itself was fun and energetic.
His grading scale is the east coast scale. There is a lot of reading and expect 3-4 pop quizzes on the reading during the quarter. You will need to participate and write 3 6-page papers. A lot of work but the discussions in class are cool.
Professor Perillo was great. He is so understanding and truly cares about his students. He is a little bit of a tough grader when it comes to the papers, midterm, and final but still gives you a fair grade. Make sure to read all the readings and you'll do great in this class. I would 100% recommend him to any student.
The class can feel tedious but he's a really great professor that respects all his students. Bit of a workload but it's never overwhelming.
Prof. Perillo is very well versed in the subject. A lot of reading and a couple of essays throughout the course. Participation matters, but posting on discussion boards counts, so you don't have to talk in class. He gives study guides before exams which are helpful. Class is a bit of work, but the class is very fulfilling.
You can ignore this review tbh. This class was too much for me rn and I couldn't handle his formatting. His Midterm was too much to remember especially with the kinds of classes I was in at that time. Participation was a priority to him. He's articulate in lectures, but this just didn't work out. He likes you to read too, so be prepped.
Hard grader and a lot of readings.
I took this class last quarter. MGT 228 and REL 228 are literally the same. Perillo was a great guy, made class a safe environment and was caring. I believe 3 'pop' quizzes and midterm and final are easy if you do all the readings and go to class to help dissect them in his lectures. A couple papers but was doable.
Great professor. participation matters but he made it very open and enticing to participate in class or in online discussions for each class, not too many big assignments at all and nicely spaced out. explains things great so understanding and learning is fun and easy,
Professor Perillo was very attentive and really cared about what he was teaching. It was easy to reach him outside of class. There are several papers and quizzes plus the midterm and final but he is pretty lenient on grading. Participation in class is encouraged but you can also post on the discussion board to get points. Amazing class!
Prof Perillo is a very understanding professor. Class requires 18 pages of writing with deadlines but is very understanding with deadlines and often pushes dates back if you ask.
He was very friendly and concerning professor. You need to write 3 paper through out the course. You can just email him a day before deadline for extension and he will happily do it. Also respects his students and his lectures are well rehearsed. Just read documents before coming in to the class.
Very nice professor, made the class interesting and inspiring, and is very understanding with all of his students.
Hands down one of the best professors I've had at DePaul. The class itself is fairly easy but most importantly, professor perillo makes it very clear that he cares about his students and their wellbeing.
Professor Jesse Perillo is the definition of what a professor should be. He is amazing in all that he does. He shows true consideration for his students not just in class but even if they're dealing with worldly problems he will help in any way he can. He truly is an amazing teacher :)
An incredibly kind professor who truly cares about his students. He gives good feedback on papers and is flexible with deadlines as long as you let him know.
He's VERY nice but the class was hard for a simple business major like me. There's 3 6-page papers and half the readings make no sense. But to be fair, he is super lax on deadlines and will give last-min extensions. As a teacher, he's super easy and chill. For the class itself, I found it to be a lot of work.. a lot of reading... a lot of writing..
This is a professor that truly loves their job. Responds to emails almost instantly no matter the hour and generally goes the extra mile. There's a good amount of writing and the prompts get more difficult as the course goes on but at least the readings are interesting.
He's nice and very understanding, not strict on attendance, but watch out for the 3 pop quizzes. The midterm and final were tough for me, but the 3 essays helped boost my grade. There's a lot of reading, so you've got to put in the work. Participation is key, either in class or on the discussion board. I just did the discussion board.
One of my favorite professors! I am writing this while being in his class currently. He is passionate about teaching and is very accommodating! The sweetest! Take him!
Sweetest professor ever and very understanding. There are a lot of readings, and they are long, so be ready. The midterm was pretty difficult for me, but the papers and quizzes helped me. He lets you know when the quiz will be, and you can use notes. The final was easier since it was asynchronous.
The sweetest teacher ever truly. Prioritizes student well-being over anything which is so helpful and considerate. Preaches that deadlines are not meant to confine or scare you but to encourage and motivate you to to do your work. Yes there are many readings and short 1-2 written questions on the readings but they are open note and easy! Take him!
So cool, he truly wants to see his students succeed. He gives out study guides for all exams!
Super cool guy. Very understanding when I had to miss class for work-related reasons. Very available outside of class, gives extensions if you ask in advance. Just do the readings or pay attention in class and take notes and you'll be fine. You have to try pretty hard to fail his class.
A lot of reading that get hard to connect with the philosophy and ethic's that we get teach. He is supper nice and passionate about the topic but I believe he could tone down a little bit and explain it more directly. There is always readings, about 30 to 50 pages for each class.
Professor Perillo is one of the best professors I've had at DePaul. His lectures were insightful, and the readings were interesting. There are 2 papers, in-class quizzes and midterm, and a remote final. The participation grade can be earned either in class or with discussion posts. He gives great feedback and responds to emails very quickly.
This professor is absolutely amazing & is super caring, understanding & accessible outside of class. Midterm & final is easy because he actually teaches you what we need to know. Is super accessible outside of class, no textbook, he is funny and enjoyable, we do have 3 essays but he gives extensions for them. He wants us to succeed. Take him!
Professor Perillo was always so excited to teach, super passionate about the topics, and looks for every opportunity to help out students through extensions, extra-credit, warnings for pop quizzes, etc. Only homework is 3 6-page papers so make sure you stay ahead of the workload.
Prof. Perillo is such a caring and understanding professor. As long as you communicate with him he'll give you so much leniency which is a big help. His lectures are engaging and interesting. Just a really nice guy. Definitely take his class if you need the credits.
