He is a very nice professor and teaches well. He explains well and cares for his students, he's also funny. I recommend students to take him, you'll enjoy it, learn, and be proud you took him! Do your work and expect an A or B. =)

This guy is incredibly amusing. He almost makes you want to go to class to see what the heck we're going to talk about. He almost feels like a peer. Great teacher. He knows how to display his knowledge in order to reach his students.

Nice guy. Chill class. He never required speeches to be written and turned in (so you could just jot something down on a napkin, give the speech, get a B, and throw the napkin away afterwards). A good class for the social and shy alike. Easy tests, too.

i loved this class! very helpful and approachable. i was very shy about public speaking, and because of what i learned from this professor i can get through a speech without passing out. 4 exams (easy if u either go to class or read) and 4 speeches (lenient grader) a must for GE's!

Extremely too easy. took 2 courses with him in 1 semester. passing both of them. not hard at all. hardly any reading for ch.s 202 (i barely read 1 article )only took 4 speeches and like 2 exams for ch.s 151. kick back,chill teacher that most of the time ends class early.really understanding and relates to the students alot.i recommend him TAKE HIM

Best speech class you could ever take!! He makes taking speech a lot easier. I was very nervous about taking speech and dreaded this class for a long time, however he made it comfortable and easy. There are 4 speeches and a few easy exams which is good because if you arent good at speeches the exams will help. I recommened it to anyone!

The class is easy and laid back. The tests are not very difficult if you pay attention and read the text. He is very interesting and you do learn a lot about the subject matter. The group paper is on a subject of your chosing and does not seem to be a big deal. He is always late on returning work and grades which is not so good.

Jesse is a great guy! He really cares about his students and is enthusiastic. He swears a lot and I loved that, he talks to students like they are friends. Easy class. Didn't like the "white people are the devil" attitude that came with the course material. Overall, great teacher but not a great course.

Valadez is a really easy professor. He gives out simple assignments and he never takes attendance. He gives out two blue book exams and there is a group assignment called the 'quote' paper that you can finish in a heartbeat.

This professor is awesome! I really learned a lot in class. We read two books. The first one was on Tatum and the other one was Ramos. You will learn a lot about race. Dont buy the other book, you dont need it! We didnt even open it!

Overall great professor. He gives you different perspectives to consider when studying racism. One "big" project but it's no big deal. We read a couple of books and he gives you in class assignments and a few hw assignments. Attendance isnt mandatory but if you don't go you'll lose out on that days points. I was actually eager to go to his class.

Easy A. Just do good on your presentation, quote paper at end of semester. No reason why to go to class, just do the readings and you will be good for the test. Easy reads too.

i took him for chs 202 and chs 98 he's a super good and easy professor he knows what he's doing , anything you don't understand ask, he is extremely helpful

He was easy and pretty cool. He asks to get all three books but you just really need the one your going to do your presentation on. His assignments are really easy. And he goes over everything you need to know about the quiz the day before. There's no mid-term or final, just quizzes and like 3 papers.

My favorite teacher at CSUN. Really cares about the students and has great class discussion! There is a lot of reading but you don't have to read it all. Tests are very easy, and with 2 presentations the grades of the students really represent the effort not the accuracy or performance in there speech, which was great. Take Him!!

Pretty easy class. You do 2 presentations and a big paper with a group so it isn't anything hard. The only complaint I have is that he is a hard grader on some things and is very forgetful and unclear on assignments.

He is the easiest prof. I have ever taken. 3 midterms and he tells you EXACTLY what will be on them. One "quote paper" where u gather quotes and give a presentation about it. Never read books still got an A. Class is engaging and he bought us pizza. If you can take him please do he teaches you and he's amazing at what he does :)

I took Professor Valadez for CH S 113A&B and also for CH S 202 and both of these classes were interesting. He engages with his students and makes the class entertaining. I've learned a lot from his classes and if I had the chance I'd take him again. Take him , you won't regret it.

Take his class. You will not be disappointed. He's super chill but that doesn't mean he's easy. Very knowledgable on the topic. If you come to class and take solid notes, you'll definitely pass!

Jesse Valadez is one of the best professors to have as a freshman. He's a super chill guy but he doesn't encourage slacking. He assigns papers but he'll help you so you won't procrastinate. There are no tests in the class, only about 3 or 4 essays the whole semester.

I actually liked this class, but he can be a tough grader at times. There are very few assignments so make each one count. There are some group assignments and attendance is also very important. However, his lectures were always interesting and he's hilarious. I'd recommend him, but you'd actually have to work for your grade so don't slack.

Good professor, really knows his stuff. Makes his lectures fun and interesting. Reading is a must to pass. There are 4 tests, 1 book analysis and a final power point group presentation. The assignments were easy just don't leave things to the last minute and as long as you read and study for tests you will be fine. I wish I would have read more.

I took this professor for a freshman intro speech class, and he is really picky with speeches! You gotta impress the guy because sometimes he wont even follow his own grading criteria, just what he thinks is "best". Gave the majority of the class B's . One of the laziest I've known.

Professor Valadez Race & Critical Thinking class was very interesting. I learned soo much. He really gets in deep about racism and has you thinking about how cruel the world can be at times. There is 2 important group projects so choose wisely. Assigns Homework but nothing tough. Take good notes and you'll be fine for the exams.

He is able to teach very directly with humor integrated within his lectures. There are only a few speeches (3 individual, 1 group) and tests within the semester. Don't miss class on lecture days! This class is not an easy A, but if you actually plan out your speeches well and study directly from his lectures, you will do well.

Amazing professor. Explains material clearly. Very helpful and offers to explain more in depth if students don't get it. Ends class pretty early almost every time. Cancels class few times a semester. easy class, but u learn how to write a good speech and learn a lot from him. Doesn't unnecessarily make the class harder than it should be.

Good professor, he's very laid back and enjoys lecturing. We had 4 in class speeches one of which was a group speech. His grading is fair and bases his quizzes on the textbook and lectures.

One of the best professors I've taken, comfortable to speak your opinion in class and lectures really linger in your thoughts. I enjoyed going to this class, never missed a day. Classwork was opinionated and he was lenient on grading as long as he knows you understood the concept. Would recommend to anyone.

By far one of the best professors. The class is chill he basically tells you what questions are going to be on the test. 2 group presentation and a 5-page essay which was honestly easy.

One of the best professors in the chicano department. You are required to present a few times, do a 50 quote group paper, take 3 or 4 tests and read short books. It may sound like a lot but he does it at an easy pace. Also there are extra credit opportunities so if you really try you can get an A.

Jesse valadez was by far one of my favorite professors so far in my college journey . He may look mean at first but trust me , you will love him . Hes very funny and makes the subject interesting. He does not make attendance a grade . Do all the few assignments he gives , pass his 4 tests , do good on your final presentation, and theres your A

He was a great professor, treats you straight up but it makes the class feel comfortable. I didn't study for any of the tests I just listened to his lectures and hardly took notes but I suggest you do because that would have gotten me an A. His 50 quote paper per group is distributed throughout the 16 weeks so he makes sure you don't procrastinate.

There is about 4 or 3 textbooks, but you only need one for one assignment and one chapter that you have to present. His tests are really easy and he lets you know what will be on it beforehand. Take good notes and study them. If he gives you the option to take a multiple choice test or short answer: short answers. Hes more lenient when grading it.

He is by far my favorite professor at CSUN, makes class fun but you also learn alot. Looked forward to coming to his class. Exams are basically the material and readings discussed in class. No trick questions, he really wants you to learn.

Prof Valadez is honestly one of the greatest profs at csun. he's been the only prof to ever switch class rooms just so students on his waitlist could be added. although his class may seem daunting, he is patient and will walk you through the steps, only 4 exams, a presentation, and smaller projects to prepare you for the presentation.

Overall, Professor Valadez is great professor, he knows his stuff and is always willing to help you out if you put in the effort. About 5 papers which are easy and he is not a tough grader. Just get ready to work in group assignments! The final is also really, really, really easy if you do all of your work. ;)

Professor Valadez is AMAZING. I'm in his speech class He is very understanding when someone mentions their anxiety about public speaking and can easily make everyone feel comfortable before giving a speech. He is one of my favorite instructors and I absolutely recommend him if you need to take speech.

Easy grader on speeches. His lectures cover most of what is on his quizzes but he speaks most of the information he wants you to know for the quizzes, his powerpoints don't have that much information on them. He's very funny and entertaining and having him on a Friday morning at 8 am is not boring

Honestly, the best professor at CSUN for Race Critical Thinking, he is very flexible on the work: 2 or 3 exam depends on where you are at during lectures, one group project (easyyy), extra credit opportunity, and also he decides based on his mood to give a final or not. Few assignments and it better to go in class because he always makes changes!

One of my favorite classes that I always looked forward to. The class had some discussions, assignments, a group project/presentation, and 2 tests (was supposed to be 3 but he had made a mistake in the syllabus). The lecture was always very interactive and he would use current examples, videos, and personal experiences.

For me CHS 202 with Professor Valadez was very easy, but in this case it was a good thing, I was able to learn more in depth about concepts like race and how it has permeated many aspects of society. The aspects of group work really help us teach our fellow students about race related issues.

i was nervous at first since it is a speech class but once he ran over a few do's and don'ts, i felt less nervous about presenting in front of the class. there were 4 speeches ( three individual and one group project). his grading criteria is simple, but i'm positive no one ever got a 100% on their speech. i would take this class again though :)

His class is not bad. He does not offer a lot of hw and your grade is mostly based on the quizzes. Take good notes. Does not have a study guide. His quizzes are very end-open and cover a lot of text. Best of luck studying for them.

Prof. Valadez makes a speech class manageable. While a tough grader, he's engaging and helps calm nerves. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for speech prep.
