Very Independent Class, lots of reading, but she gives good base to learn....
very dry
She's nice and pretty interesting to listen to, but study hard for those tests.
Class is easy to follow and sit through, tests are an even mix from sources.
organized, hard, 20 pg paper=killer, a lot of reading, sometimes boring
SOO nice! Easy, but only if you go to class and read
demanding, strict yet personable and very knowledgeable.
She is scary! Stern, boring, over-opinionated,never smiles.
20 pg paper but she is a great teacher and very easy to talk to
She is kinda gruff, but her class is straight forward, and pretty easy if you go
she is boring and repeats the same stuff over and over, tests are kinda tough
Nice lady. Likes to say 'over all' a lot. Do work and read = A
Explores so many important ideas. Very well done, but test can be a little hard
Very helpful &interesting, so nice, lots of material, STUDY for the tests!
Don't wait until the last minute to write the term paper. She grades them hard.
So many important ideas and she fosters class discussion.
good teacher, very straightforward. Never has trick questions
Incredible person, funny + super smart. Hard grader. *Great* professor.
Very straightforward...still looking for a smile out of her before the end of the semester...
Lots of reading, but a good teacher, uses powerpoint helpfully.
straightforward, kinda boring. helpful. like other person said, one day this woman will smile.
seems slightly awkard, but in a nice way. common sense class, but the tests aren't necessarily common sense. pay attention and DO THE READING. she's cool i like her
boring notes in class, too much outside work, but not too hard
Dr. Adolino is great - she's been more than helpful with all my problems and she's extremely straightforward in her teaching style. Do what she asks, and you'll be fine.
go to class, take good notes, follow the writing rules and you will be fine...
Good teacher, VERY clear, lots of busy work, all papers are EASY, really nice and will excuse absences..TAKE HER
Very good teacher. She's a stickler for grammar on the essays, but she's clear about what she wants. She actually has smiled some this semester. All in all an excellent prof, just watch that grammar.
Good class with discussions and world issues. She is a good teacher that knows her stuff. Sometimes talks a lot but it is still worthy info.
boring boring boring....but if you've gotta take it, you may as well take her. papers aren't bad and she grades pretty easy on them...you can miss 3 classes during the semester
Nice lady who is willing to help when you need it. However tests are hard and many questions have more than one correct respone you you have to pick the BEST and that can be a pain at times.
very nice lady. repeats everything plenty. papers are very easy. tests can get tricky, but she goes back and adds points. can be boring if poli sci isnt your cup of tea. attendence is checked. good amount of reading. good teacher knows her stuff REAL well
easy class - tests are aiight - papers are hella easy - if you work moderately hard, you can get an A
very easy to talk to, extremely easy papers..tests a bit tricky, but i've had her 3 semesters in a row...always honest and willing to help and answer any questions..also had her for 240 and 200...take any of her classes.
Completely recommend. Had also for POSC 240. Reading topics very interesting and helpful for the field.
Tends to speed-talk,and rarely slows down, but she gives clear, extensive power point notes. A lot of material to read, but tests are mostly easy if you study the notes. Papers are mostly subjective, so that's a plus!
She can come across as very serious, but she's the kind of teacher you should get to know on a personal level. She's fast, but her powerpoint notes are very thorough and she posts them after each class. Tests are tricky, but good teacher.
Class can move slow sometimes, but notes are clear and papers are easy if you do the work. I would take her again.
she talks really fast so you have to stop her if you dont' understand. she's always helpful if you go to her office hours. she knows her stuff. tests were kinda hard cuz so detailed.
Overall a good professor, fair, you get from her what you put in.

Adolino is not an easy teacher, but she is helpful, knowledgable, and wants to see her students succeed.
She is one of the best teachers ever, and she is always works hard to make sure you succeed in the best way possible. She is very kind and nice inside and outside of the classroom, and I should know. She is the best person ever, even though she may not cut you slack, she's trying to help you in the very best way possible. Go Mrs. A!!
This should come before the long response, but just to say your great and happy birthday!
Extremely smart lady with interesting things to say. Midterm and Final with 3 papers. Posts slides AFTER lecture. Assigned books are interesting. Material seemed straightfoward but I was suprised to get a B on the midterm.
Professor Adolino is a vault of knowledge in comparative politics. She knows the information really well. That said, she is the most boring teacher I have ever had. hands down. She can't go for 5 minutes without referencing something to the UK government. Exams are moderately difficult.
Adolino is with a doubt the most boring and monotonous teacher I have ever had. She puts me to sleep, as soon, as she opens her mouth for lecture. However, she is very cerebral and can answer almost any question dealing with external policies of foreign nations. Her notes are vauge, and you will fail, if you do not listen.
I love this professor. Her class was really easy and since she didn't have a textbook it was pretty easy. You will have to read four books and write papers on them, but it really isn't that hard. Everything she talks about in lectures are fair game for the exam.
very smart lady- hard to communicate with...4 papers, 3 movie assignments, mid term and final...I had a solid B+ then the final killed me (even though i thought it was easy at the time) so ended up with a b-...takes attendance must go to class to pass!
Dr. Adolino really know what shes talking about. She doesn't use text books but instead assigns interesting non-fiction books. Some are more engaging than others. She is a bit monotonous but very very interesting and knowledgeable! She grades exams harder than she does papers but I'd HIGHLY recommend her.
Very knowledgeable on western Europe. Lectures are in-depth, but not overwhelming. Grades pretty easily. Do the journal assignments and come to class and you will do fine. One of the few classes I looked forward coming to.
I LOVE Professor Adolino! She is one of the best POSC professors you can take. I have taken her three times now, and although I did not receive the grade I hoped for a couple times, I still recommend her. She is VERY smart and VERY helpful. I left each course with a newfound interest in the subject. Take her!! :)
Adolino knows what she is talking about. Lectures are in depth and can get boring at times, buts it is worth it to take notes. Papers based on movies and books throughout the semester were really easy, final exam was tough but do-able. If you talked to her after class or in her office she would really explain what you were struggling with.
Pretty difficult class, but you will learn a LOT. Except for the multiple choice questions on the midterm and final you're entire grade comes from writing papers. She's a harsh grader and evaluates your papers more for grammar than content (seriously, she is a really tough grader on papers). Put in effort and you'll manage to get atleast a B.
Dr. Adolino is extremely helpful in office hours, however the multiple choice on her exams can be extremely confusing and she is very unclear about reading assignments, often only saying "be sure to have this book read by next class" without any prior warning. Lectures are long and often a bit dry. Great person, not a good class.
Dr. Adolino knows everything there is to know about UK Politics. She isn't always clear on reading assignments and has a lot of specific rules about paper formatting. Tests are tough but I have learned more from her than any other professor. Don't be afraid to take her class, challenge yourself and you'll enjoy it.
Adolino has an arrogant attitude about her. It is difficult to get questions in edgewise during lectures because she talks nonstop. She is a merciless grader when it comes to papers, as she has several 'writing guidelines' for you strictly to follow. There are 5 to 7-pg papers due each month and a 15-pg paper due at the end of the semester.
Dr. Adolino is a ruthless grader. She has incredibly strict writing guidelines and takes off significant percentages of grades for minor errors. She has significantly higher standards than other professors at JMU. While this is normally a good thing she immediately expects her students to be on her level. If it is not to her standard it is wrong
The actual worst to be honest. The class is unnecessarily hard. Her tests are ambiguous and no matter how much extra credit you do, you will more than likely do poorly because the is the worst grader. They don't match the material at all. POSC200 is a gen ed and counts toward certain majors/minors. If you don't have to take her, don't.
Easy lectures to follow & posts the pptx on Canvas before tests. She has reading quizzes on the readings every once in a while, nothing to worry about, 3 pts and are easy if you did the reading. The tests aren't an easy A, but aren't hard either and there's extra credit at the end. I haven't tried much and I have a B+/A-, you don't know your grade
I loved Dr. Adolino's Western European politics class! You will learn so much and she knows everything there is to know about the subject matter. Yeah she has extensive formatting and writing guidelines, but as long as you read and follow them, you'll be fine! This one of my favorite classes I've taken at JMU. Highly recommend!
Lectures are boring
Dr. Adolino is an amazing professor. For POSC 345 this semester she had us do one 5 paged paper and one 15 paged research paper. She does have strict writing guidelines, but as she said to our class, if you follow the guidelines and answer the prompt, you'll do well. She is very smart and knows a lot about Western Europe.
"Russians in the Gulag had a better chance of making it out than someone coming out her class with an A." She has ridiculous standards. Requires students to read 10+ books, at least one book a week. Several papers. FAR more requirements than any other section of the exact same class. I am considering myself LUCKY to make it out with a C-.
In her class we read 12 full books, had four 5-6 pg papers and a white paper of 40+ pages. While she is amazing her coursework is EXTREMELY time consuming. She is a very picky grader and few students ever got an A or B on her papers. If you have a lot of time to dedicate to her class take it, if not I'd take another inta 489 teacher.
HORRIBLE! Do not take her class! Her tests are unfair & if you don't show up to class you get penalized but if you do show up to class you get no credit. I am an A student who just graduated & this is my first C+ in college. Do not take her class! I don't understand how she has good reviews. Her lectures are SO boring & I didn't learn anything!
This teacher has an awful system of grading papers, that includes a detailed 12 page style guide that is whimisical, not based on anything factual. It's used to just dock points at will, not to mention there are 7 books required for a 1.5 month course. This is the hardest teacher at JMU and the least enjoyable to take a class in.
Professor Adolino is able to showcase her knowledge on contemporary European matters in the most professional and detailed manner. Her Politics of Western Europe course is a great course to take in order to satisfy the Comparative Politics criteria. You learn a lot. Shes straight-forward and is a great listener and helper. The best lectures.
One of the hardest classes. The quizzes and tests don't correlate to what she teaches or what the readings are on so it's impossible to get a good grade. Plus she doesn't show grades to her students.
Her lectures were extremely dry, and would usually go off topic in material that had nothing to do with exams (even though all testable material came from lecture and textbook). The tests are near impossible and I did all the required work, tests had nothing to do with lecture. Took this for my minor and lead to my change in minor. do not take her.
Professor Adolino asks a lot from her students while being very unwilling to accommodate herself. Her quizzes and tests are impossible to study for because of the way she writes her questions (in a subjective tone, including grammatical errors). She grades participation on how much time you have spent on her canvas page. Two thumbs down.
Adolino is boring, and honestly, biased in her teaching of a comparative politics course. She teaches you her opinion and expects you to think that is the correct answer in tests and quizzes. The course material isn't dense, and its just 3 tests and 6 quizzes, which are honestly really confusing because she is terrible at wording her questions.
3 tests, 6 quizzes. very helpful outside of class. exams are very wordy and difficult. gives 3 extra credit options. attendance is mandatory. super sweet professor. voice is a little boring.
Let me tell you, I have never had a worse professor in my life. This class was completely asynchronous and you could tell just how lazy Dr. Adolino was because of it. She offered no help with explanations and made her tests and quizzes IMPOSSIBLE--this is coming from a straight A student. Not worth the anxiety and anger. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
This is one of the toughest professor at JMU. Doesnt leave any feedback but instead how bad you did. I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy!
Beware if you are in the EUPS program you have no choice. She's a super tough grader. Her feedback is harsh & doesn't make sense. She claimed I didn't know what I was talking about in a paper because I referred to EU directives and regulations legislation, which they are, yet she claimed they are not and we learned it in HER class. Good riddance.
So many readings, but if you divide them throughout the week you will be fine. There are discussion posts every Monday, and we only had two papers (Midterm 8pgs, Final 15pgs) and then a final open book (free response sort of essay) exam. Make sure you take good notes and do the readings!
Adolino is a great professor for Western Euro. She gives great lectures; repeats important points so they are not missed. she has weekly discussion posts which require you to pull ideas from the lectures and readings, which are easy and great grade boosters if you pay attention and Two big papers and a final that are challenging but very doable.
I hate her. Adolino is not accessible outside of class, and she does not show the answers after tests/quizzes have closed. The questions are not related whatsoever to lecture, and are EXTREMELY tricky with SO MANY CURVEBALLS. Extremely harsh grader, and so wordy. Everyone's average is a C. Good luck. Take at your own risk to your GPA.
she's dry when it comes to lectures and i find that the exams don't correlate to things she's said in class, mostly because the questions are like a paragraph long with answer choices a-e that all sound the same. in the exams you're basically trying to find the most correct answer and praying for the best, the nice thing is that it was online
You have all tests and quizzes online based on readings and textbook... I wasn't supposed to take this class I did it on accident so I was very confused the whole time. If this a course you're supposed to take I bet you would be fine, this was just a me mistake LOL!
I honestly think she' s a pretty decent professor, it's just a lot of material. Her lectures can get a little dry, but she is very thorough. You have a couple of quizzes that are based on supplemental material(15% of the final grade). 2 papers which are worth 30% of your grade and 2 exams worth 55% of your grade. She answered my emails quickly
She is a nice woman but her exams are hard. You only have a midterm and final and 2 papers. You have a few online quizzes but they are only worth 3 points. Her lectures suck and feel like they don't align with her exams.
I didn't find this class material difficult. However, the exams were not exactly easy. I wouldn't recommend taking her. The lectures are very dull and a bit hard to follow. Also, the exams weigh heavily and do not take if you're not a good test taker. Lots of studying to pass the exams. Attendance is not mandatory, which is nice.
Professor Adolino is very educated in European politics but the class is VERY boring. There were 4 tests that were awful and 2 papers that took way too long to complete. I learned literally nothing all semester and just hated it, and I'm literally a political science major. Do not take this class unless you have to.
Unless you can thrive academically online, then I don't recommend. 2 exams based on the lectures, 5 quizzes based on the materials you have to read outside of class (20 questions), 2 papers. Her lectures are very monotone and you have to be really interested in European politics to enjoy this class.
Dr. Adolino is nice and has good intentions. But her lectures are painfully boring and focus on European politics. There is no opportunity to engage with material, collaborate with peers, or apply any of the knowledge aside from the two papers. There's only a midterm and final, little opportunity to bring your grade up if you screw up.
This is absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. She grades incredibly harshly on criteria that isn't made clear. For one assignment, she gave about 85% of our class the same grade (the lowest grade she could possibly give). Her feedback on papers is largely just "this is incorrect" with no help on how to improve. Good luck future EUPS kids.
Dr. Adolino is very sweet and kind her lectures are super boring, you have 2 papers, 4 quizzes on articles, and a final and midterm which are both online. She is an easy grader and the class was not too difficult.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. She has unrealistic and hyperspecific guidelines that are nearly impossible to follow. Her feedback is discouraging and often rude. She made me and our entire class doubt our intelligence; she spent an hour berating us during class time about how terrible our work was. Her misery knows no bounds.
Being a student of Dr. Adolino has been the worst academic experience I have had. I learned more about how to strive to reach the unrealistic and unspoken expectations of Dr. Adolino than I did about public policy. She made me doubt not only my abilities as a student, but my personhood. I regret having ever wasted tears over her remarks.
Professor Adolino's POSC240 lectures can be dry, but the assignments and tests are challenging. I found unstuck study and the textbook very helpful for studying and preparing for exams. Overall, an informative but difficult course.
Lectures are painfully boring, almost impossible to pay attention. Class is very test heavy, with the final being cumulative, weighing 40%. There are five take home quizzes, which aren't the most difficult based on supplements. Tests aren't that hard but based on textbook readings and lectures. She posts the lecture notes on Canvas at end of module
Lectures were boring but material was simple. Need to read textbook for tests. Only grades are 3 quizzes and 3 tests. Class wasn't very hard and attendance isn't mandatory, but need to go and study to do well.
The lectures in class don't correspond to the tests and she isn't open to questions after or before class. She goes on tangents and expects you to know the tiniest details. There's only 3 tests including the final and for all of the exams the class average was 68. Do not take unless absolutely necessary.
Very dull lecturer; I love the topic but still struggled to pay attention every day. Your grade is pretty much determined by 3 tough exams, but she does offer some extra credit on exams and throughout the semester. Not the worst, but definitely not an easy or interesting professor.
This class is only graded on quizzes and tests. The final is 40% of your grade, tests in total are 85% of your final grade, the rest are quizzes. Tests are extremely difficult, however I am not a POSC major so that might vary. Exams are in person, scantron. Throughout the semester our final grade is not visible, it has said N/A all semester.
Professor Adolino was very sweet and you can tell that she knows the material very well, but she didn't communicate it clearly. I personally like lecture based classes, but this one was hard to sit through sometimes. She tends to ramble , repeat virtually the same concept multiple times just rephrased into less understandable ways.
Very little work and not graded attendance, but definitely need to show up to do well. Exams were 85% of the final grade and mostly multiple choice with optional essays, so you have to take good notes since she doesn't post slideshows. Lectures aren't super engaging, but she knows what she's talking about and focuses on key points.
Tough class to get a good grade in. Lectures not mandatory but you really need proper lecture notes to do well on exams. Three exams worth 85% of grade (yikes). Last 15% of grade is from 4 take-home quizzes. Material is boring but foundational for poli sci majors. I think she rounds grades at the end of the semester.
She's a really good professor and very prepared. She answers every single question you have with clarity. Her lectures can be heavy, but I really liked them. A lot of readings and her tests are hard. Not a lot of homework.
